Metabolic changes following eccentric exercise in trained and untrained men   总被引:10,自引:0,他引:10  
The effects of one 45-min bout of high-intensity eccentric exercise (250 W) were studied in four male runners and five untrained men. Plasma creatine kinase (CK) activity in these runners was higher (P less than 0.001) than in the untrained men before exercise and peaked at 207 IU/ml 1 day after exercise, whereas in untrained men the maximum was 2,143 IU/ml 5 days after exercise. Plasma interleukin-1 (IL-1) in the trained men was also higher (P less than 0.001) than in the untrained men before exercise but did not significantly increase after exercise. In the untrained men, IL-1 was significantly elevated 3 h after exercise (P less than 0.001). In the untrained group only, 24-h urines were collected before and after exercise while the men consumed a meat-free diet. Urinary 3-methylhistidine/creatinine in the untrained group rose significantly from 127 mumol/g before exercise to 180 mumol/g 10 days after exercise. The results suggest that in untrained men eccentric exercise leads to a metabolic response indicative of delayed muscle damage. Regularly performed long distance running was associated with chronically elevated plasma IL-1 levels and serum CK activities without acute increases after an eccentric exercise bout.  相似文献

Six men werestudied during four 30-s "all-out" exercise bouts on anair-braked cycle ergometer. The first three exercise bouts wereseparated by 4 min of passive recovery; after the third bout, subjectsrested for 4 min, exercised for 30 min at 30-35% peakO2 consumption, and rested for afurther 60 min before completing the fourth exercise bout. Peak powerand total work were reduced (P < 0.05) during bout 3 [765 ± 60 (SE) W; 15.8 ± 1.0 kJ] compared withbout 1 (1,168 ± 55 W, 23.8 ± 1.2 kJ), but no difference in exercise performance was observed betweenbouts 1 and4 (1,094 ± 64 W, 23.2 ± 1.4 kJ). Before bout 3, muscle ATP,creatine phosphate (CP), glycogen, pH, and sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR)Ca2+ uptake were reduced, whilemuscle lactate and inosine 5'-monophosphate wereincreased. Muscle ATP and glycogen before bout4 remained lower than values beforebout 1 (P < 0.05), but there were no differences in muscle inosine 5'-monophosphate, lactate, pH, and SR Ca2+ uptake. Muscle CP levelsbefore bout 4 had increased aboveresting levels. Consistent with the decline in muscle ATP wereincreases in hypoxanthine and inosine before bouts3 and 4. The decline in exercise performance does not appear to be related to a reduction inmuscle glycogen. Instead, it may be caused by reduced CP availability, increased H+ concentration,impairment in SR function, or some other fatigue-inducing agent.

The present investigation was undertaken to examine the relationship between plasma potassium (K+) and ventilation (VE) during incremental exercise. Blood lactate (La-) was also measured, and its relationship with VE was similarly examined. Eight endurance-trained triathletes (ET) and eight active but untrained men (UT) performed an incremental cycling test to volitional fatigue. Maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) and oxygen uptake (VO2) at lactate threshold (LT) were higher (P < 0.05) in ET (VO2max 4.60 +/- 0.10 l/min, LT 2.77 +/- 0.85 l/min) than in UT (VO2max 3.79 +/- 0.11 l/min, LT 1.94 +/- 0.60 l/min). There were significant (P < 0.05) correlations between VE and K+ (UT 0.87, ET 0.77) and between VE and La- (UT 0.88, ET 0.85). In ET compared with UT, VE was lower (P < 0.05) at 330 W, K+ was lower at 300 and 330 W, and La- was lower at all work loads > 90 W. These results suggest that K+ may make an important contribution to the regulation of ventilation during incremental exercise and that endurance training attenuates the K+ response to that exercise.  相似文献

ABSTRACT: Gosselin, LE, Kozlowski, KF, DeVinney-Boymel, L, and Hambridge, C. Metabolic response of different high-intensity aerobic interval exercise protocols. J Strength Cond Res 26(10): 2866-2871, 2012-Although high-intensity sprint interval training (SIT) employing the Wingate protocol results in significant physiological adaptations, it is conducted at supramaximal intensity and is potentially unsafe for sedentary middle-aged adults. We therefore evaluated the metabolic and cardiovascular response in healthy young individuals performing 4 high-intensity (~90% V[Combining Dot Above]O2max) aerobic interval training (HIT) protocols with similar total work output but different work-to-rest ratio. Eight young physically active subjects participated in 5 different bouts of exercise over a 3-week period. Protocol 1 consisted of 20-minute continuous exercise at approximately 70% of V[Combining Dot Above]O2max, whereas protocols 2-5 were interval based with a work-active rest duration (in seconds) of 30/30, 60/30, 90/30, and 60/60, respectively. Each interval protocol resulted in approximately 10 minutes of exercise at a workload corresponding to approximately 90% V[Combining Dot Above]O2max, but differed in the total rest duration. The 90/30 HIT protocol resulted in the highest V[Combining Dot Above]O2, HR, rating of perceived exertion, and blood lactate, whereas the 30/30 protocol resulted in the lowest of these parameters. The total caloric energy expenditure was lowest in the 90/30 and 60/30 protocols (~150 kcal), whereas the other 3 protocols did not differ (~195 kcal) from one another. The immediate postexercise blood pressure response was similar across all the protocols. These finding indicate that HIT performed at approximately 90% of V[Combining Dot Above]O2max is no more physiologically taxing than is steady-state exercise conducted at 70% V[Combining Dot Above]O2max, but the response during HIT is influenced by the work-to-rest ratio. This interval protocol may be used as an alternative approach to steady-state exercise training but with less time commitment.  相似文献

The effects of beta-blockade on tidal volume (VT), breath cycle timing, and respiratory drive were evaluated in 14 endurance-trained [maximum O2 uptake (VO2max) approximately 65 ml X kg-1 X min-1] and 14 untrained (VO2max approximately 50 ml X kg-1 X min-1) male subjects at 45, 60, and 75% of unblocked VO2max and at VO2max. Propranolol (PROP, 80 mg twice daily), atenolol (ATEN, 100 mg once a day) and placebo (PLAC) were administered in a randomized double-blind design. In both subject groups both drugs attenuated the increases in VT associated with increasing work rate. CO2 production (VCO2) was not changed by either drug during submaximal exercise but was reduced in both subject groups by both drugs during maximal exercise. The relationship between minute ventilation (VE) and VCO2 was unaltered by either drug in both subject groups due to increases in breathing frequency. In trained subjects VT was reduced during maximal exercise from 2.58 l/breath on PLAC to 2.21 l/breath on PROP and to 2.44 l/breath on ATEN. In untrained subjects VT at maximal exercise was reduced from 2.30 l/breath on PLAC to 1.99 on PROP and 2.12 on ATEN. These observations indicate that 1) since VE vs. VCO2 was not altered by beta-adrenergic blockade, the changes in VT and f did not result from a general blunting of the ventilatory response to exercise during beta-adrenergic blockade; and 2) blockade of beta 1- and beta 2-receptors with PROP caused larger reductions in VT compared with blockade of beta 1-receptors only (ATEN), suggesting that beta 2-mediated bronchodilation plays a role in the VT response to heavy exercise.  相似文献

Plasma proenkephalin peptide F immunoreactivity and catecholamines were examined on separate days in nine healthy males before and after maximal exercise to exhaustion at four intensities [36, 55, 73, and 100% of maximal leg power (MLP)] by use of a computerized cycle ergometer. The mean duration of 36, 55, 73, and 100% MLP was 3.31, 0.781, 0.270, and 0.1 min, respectively. All intensities were greater than those eliciting peak O2 uptake for the individual subjects. Blood samples were obtained before, immediately after exercise, and 5 and 15 min after exercise. Significant (P less than 0.05) increases in plasma peptide F immunoreactivity (i.e., from mean resting value of 0.18 to 0.43 pmol/ml) were observed immediately after exercise at 36% MLP. Significant increases in plasma epinephrine were observed immediately after exercise at 36% MLP (i.e., from mean resting value of 2.22 to 3.11 pmol/ml) and 55% MLP (i.e., from mean resting value of 1.67 to 2.98 pmol/ml) and 15 min after exercise at 100% MLP (i.e., from mean resting value of 1.92 to 3.88 pmol/ml). Significant increases for plasma norepinephrine were observed immediately after exercise (36, 55, 73, and 100% MLP), 5 min after exercise (36, 55, and 73% MLP), and 15 min after exercise (36% MLP). Increases in whole blood lactate were observed at all points after exercise for 36, 55, and 73% MLP and 5 min after exercise for 100% MLP. These data show that brief high-intensity exercise results in differential response patterns of catecholamines and proenkephalin peptide F immunoreactivity.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that bicycle training may improve the relationship between the global SEMG energy and VO2. We already showed close adjustment of the root mean square (RMS) of the surface electromyogram (SEMG) to the oxygen uptake (VO2) during cycling exercise in untrained subjects. Because in these circumstances an altered neuromuscular transmission which could affect SEMG measurement occurred in untrained individuals only, we searched for differences in the SEMG vs. VO2 relationship between untrained subjects and well-trained cyclists. Each subject first performed an incremental exercise to determine VO2max and the ventilatory threshold, and second a constant-load threshold cycling exercise, continued until exhaustion. SEMG from both vastus lateralis muscles was continuously recorded. RMS was computed. M-Wave was periodically recorded. During incremental exercise: (1) a significant non-linear positive correlation was found between RMS increase and VO2 increase in untrained subjects, whereas the relationship was best fitted by a straight line in trained cyclists; (2) the RMS/VO2 ratio decreased progressively throughout the incremental exercise, its decline being significantly and markedly accentuated in trained cyclists; (3) in untrained subjects, significant M-wave alterations occurred at the end of the trial. These M-wave alterations could explain the non-linear RMS increase in these individuals. During constant-load exercise: (1) after an initial increase, the VO2 ratio decreased progressively to reach a plateau after 2 min of exercise, but no significant inter-group differences were noted; (2) no M-wave changes were measured in the two groups. We concluded that the global SEMG energy recorded from the vastus lateralis muscle is a good estimate of metabolic energy expenditure during incremental cycling exercise only in well-trained cyclists.  相似文献

Four thoroughbred horses performed 4 gallops (G1-G4) with intervals of 5 min. With one exception, gallops were sustained at maximal speed over 620 m. Muscle biopsy samples of the middle gluteal and brachiocephalicus were taken before, during, and after exercise and assayed for ATP and intermediary metabolites. The results showed a major involvement of the brachiocephalicus, in addition to the middle gluteal, during galloping. In three horses, who were clearly fatigued, muscle ATP decreased by up to 50% by the end of G4. This was matched by an equal rise in inosine 5'-monophosphate. Pronounced accumulations of glycerol 3-phosphate, glycerol, and lactate (up to 204 mmol X kg dry muscle-1) occurred with exercise. In the fourth horse, which was less fatigued, a decrease in ATP and increases in intermediary metabolites were much less. Postexercise there was little or no recovery in muscle ATP or lactate during 30 min. The decreases in ATP are consistent with a high activity of adenosine 5'-monophosphate deaminase in horse muscle and indicative also of the high level of anaerobic stress of the exercise program. There was evidence to suggest that the increase in muscle glycerol resulted from hydrolysis of glycerol 3-phosphate and not from the utilization of triglyceride.  相似文献

We evaluated the hypotheses that endurance training increasesrelative lipid oxidation over a wide range of relative exercise intensities in fed and fasted states and that carbohydrate nutrition causes carbohydrate-derived fuels to predominate as energy sources during exercise. Pulmonary respiratory gas-exchange ratios [(RER) = CO2production/O2 consumption(O2)] were determinedduring four relative, graded exercise intensities in both fed andfasted states. Seven untrained (UT) men and seven category 2 and 3 US Cycling Federation cyclists (T) exercised in the morning in random order, with target power outputs of 20 and 40% peakO2(O2 peak) for 2 h,60% O2 peak for 1.5 h, and 80%O2 peak fora minimum of 30 min after either a 12-h overnight fast or 3 h after astandardized breakfast. Actual metabolic responses were 22 ± 0.33, 40 ± 0.31, 59 ± 0.32, and 75 ± 0.39%O2 peak. T subjectsshowed significantly (P < 0.05)decreased RER compared with UT subjects at absolute workloads when fedand fasted. Fasting significantly decreased RER values compared withthe fed state at 22, 40, and 59%O2 peak inT and at 40 and 59%O2 peak in UTsubjects. Training decreased (P < 0.05) mean RER values compared with UT subjects at 22%O2 peak when theyfasted, and at 40%O2 peak when fed orfasted, but not at higher relative exercise intensities in eithernutritional state. Our results support the hypothesis that endurancetraining enhances lipid oxidation in men after a 12-h overnight fast at low relative exercise intensities (22 and 40%O2 peak). However, atraining effect on RER was not apparent at high relative exercise intensities (59 and 75%O2 peak). Becausemost athletes train and compete at exercise intensities >40% maximalO2, they will not oxidize agreater proportion of lipids compared with untrained subjects,regardless of nutritional state.  相似文献

Endurance training increases muscle content of glucose transporter proteins (GLUT-4) but decreases glucose utilization during exercise at a given absolute submaximal intensity. We hypothesized that glucose uptake might be higher in trained vs. untrained muscle during heavy exercise in the glycogen-depleted state. Eight untrained subjects endurance trained one thigh for 3 wk using a knee-extensor ergometer. The subjects then performed two-legged glycogen-depleting exercise and consumed a carbohydrate-free meal thereafter to keep muscle glycogen concentration low. The next morning, subjects performed dynamic knee extensions with both thighs simultaneously at 60, 80, and until exhaustion at 100% of each thigh's peak workload. Glucose uptake was similar in both thighs during exercise at 60% of thigh peak workload. At the end of 80 and at 100% of peak workload, glucose uptake was on average 33 and 22% higher, respectively, in trained compared with untrained muscle (P < 0.05). Training increased the muscle content of GLUT-4 by 66% (P < 0. 05). At exhaustion, glucose extraction correlated significantly (r = 0.61) with total muscle GLUT-4 protein. Thus, when working at a high load with low glycogen concentrations, muscle glucose uptake is significantly higher in trained than in untrained muscle. This may be due to the higher GLUT-4 protein concentration in trained muscle.  相似文献

Physiol. 83(3):897-903, 1997.Muscle glycogen accumulation was determined in sixtrained cyclists (Trn) and six untrained subjects (UT) at 6 and either48 or 72 h after 2 h of cycling exercise at ~75% peakO2 uptake(O2 peak), which terminated with five 1-min sprints. Subjects ate 10 gcarbohydrate · kg1 · day1for 48-72 h postexercise. Muscle glycogen accumulation averaged 71 ± 9 (SE) mmol/kg (Trn) and 31 ± 9 mmol/kg (UT) during the first 6 h postexercise (P < 0.01) and 79 ± 22 mmol/kg (Trn) and 60 ± 9 mmol/kg (UT) between 6 and 48 or 72 h postexercise (not significant). Muscle glycogenconcentration was 164 ± 21 mmol/kg (Trn) and 99 ± 16 mmol/kg(UT) 48-72 h postexercise (P < 0.05). Muscle GLUT-4 content immediately postexercise was threefoldhigher in Trn than in UT (P < 0.05)and correlated with glycogen accumulation rates (r = 0.66, P < 0.05). Glycogen synthase in theactive I form was 2.5 ± 0.5, 3.3 ± 0.5, and 1.0 ± 0.3 µmol · g1 · min1in Trn at 0, 6, and 48 or 72 h postexercise, respectively;corresponding values were 1.2 ± 0.3, 2.7 ± 0.5, and 1.6 ± 0.3 µmol · g1 · min1in UT (P < 0.05 at 0 h). Plasmainsulin and plasma C-peptide area under the curve were lower in Trnthan in UT over the first 6 h postexercise(P < 0.05). Plasma creatine kinaseconcentrations were 125 ± 25 IU/l (Trn) and 91 ± 9 IU/l (UT)preexercise and 112 ± 14 IU/l (Trn) and 144 ± 22 IU/l(UT; P < 0.05 vs.preexercise) at 48-72 h postexercise (normal: 30-200 IU/l).We conclude that endurance exercise training results in an increasedability to accumulate muscle glycogen after exercise.

Red cell concentrations of hemoglobin (MCHC), H+, Na+, K+, Mg++, cl- were measured in femoral venous blood of six untrained (UT), six endurance trained (TR) and three semitrained (ST) subjects during graded increasing work (4, 8, 12, 18 and 24 mkp/s, 10-15 min on each step) on a bicycle ergometer. Before exercise no significant differences were detected for the measured variables when comparing UT and TR. During exercise MCHC, [Na+], [K+] and [Mg++] remained constant indicating lack of water shift into the erythrocytes in spite of a marked acidosis (lowest pH Blood value 7.225). This lack resulted from an elevated extracellular osmolality. [H+]Ery and [Cl-]Ery maximally increased by 2.0 X 10(-8) eq/kg H2O and 10 meq/l, respectively. The change was markedly greater in UT than in TR at equal load. However, if [H+] Ery and [Cl-] Ery were related to pH of whole blood, differences between groups, almost disappeared and the ions were distributed as predictable from in vitro experiments (Fitzsimmons and Sendroy, 1961). Behaviour of H+ and Cl- may be of importance for oxygen dissociation under in vivo conditions.  相似文献

The effects of carbohydrate and fat intake on exercise-induced fatigue was investigated in 30 untrained--(VO2max of 40.6 +/- 2.7 ml X kg-1 X min-1) and 24 trained-subjects (VO2max of 52.3 +/- 2.7 ml X kg-1 X min-1) performing a 34 km march with a 25 kg backpack. Marching time was 8 1/2 h and 6 1/3 h in the untrained and trained-subjects respectively. The subjects were divided into 3 dietary groups. One group had free access to sugar cubes, the second group was offered almonds and the third one served as a control. Triglyceride levels decreased by 65 mg X dl-1 in untrained, and by 115 mg X dl-1 in trained subjects, while blood glucose remained at normal levels. In the untrained subjects, ingestion of almonds delayed the subjective sensation of exhaustion, while 50% of the controls and the sugar consuming subjects complained of exhaustion. The data suggest that ingestion of food containing fat delays exercise induced exhaustion or fatigue to a greater extent than does carbohydrate ingestion.  相似文献
