The incidence of hydrocarbon-oxidizing microorganisms in water was determined by the method of plating on solid media. Vertical distribution of hydrocarbon-oxidizing microflora was different near the shore and in the open ocean; the incidence of the microorganisms was low in the surface water layer but increased at depths of 25 and 75 m in the open ocean in contrast to regions near the shore. Pure bacterial and fungal cultures were isolated and their properties were described. The cultures were grown in a liquid mineral medium with diesel fuel and 50 cultures out of 66 were found to be true hydrocarbon-oxidizing microorganisms surviving under the laboratory conditions. It was shown that bacteria and fungi have grown on tarballs collected from the surface of the ocean during their incubation at 30 degrees C.  相似文献

Studies on the Mediterranean Undercurrent in the Gulf of Cádiz showed that bacterial abundance and biomass as well as heterotrophic activity were higher in the water of Mediterranean origin in 500–800 m depth than in the adjacent Atlantic water. Upwelling processes off Mauretania and Portugal were accompanied by high bacterial numbers (bacterial plate counts) in the mixed surface layer. Changes in the qualitative composition of the bacterial flora in the waters off West Africa and in the Arabian Gulf were explained by the introduction of dust from desert regions into the sea by aeolian transport. In the Western Baltic migration of fish was detected by the presence of special bacteria, which normally live on or in these animals. Regions with complex hydrographic structures such as the Western and Central Baltic Sea revealed interesting relationships between bacteriological abundance and activity on the one hand and characteristic physical and chemical properties, such as origin, salinity and O2/H2S-content, on the other. The importance of bacteriological variables for the characterization of different water bodies is discussed.  相似文献

Addition of diesel fuel and waste engine oil to soil was found to cause biostimulation of hydrocarbon-oxidizing microorganisms. Corynebacteria constitute a large group of hydrocarbon-oxidizing microorganisms. Addition of a liquid culture of photosynthetic bacteria to soil not only facilitates degradation of petroleum products, but also stimulates growth of hydrocarbon-oxidizing microorganisms. Combined addition of photosynthetic bacteria and compost to soil polluted with petroleum products causes even a more significant increase in the count of hydrocarbon-oxidizing bacteria and substantially increases the rate of pollutant degradation.  相似文献

The dynamics of species composition of a hydrocarbon-oxidizing bacteriocenosis of a ground suspension of Mozhaisk Reservoir has been studied. The bacteriocenosis was undergoing development in a paraffin film (model association composed of sulfate-reducing bacteria and hydrocarbon-oxidizing bacteria). The type of bacterial succession did not depend on the depth, from which ground samples were collected. Two microbial species (Pseudomonas sp. and Arthrobacter globiformis) were absolutely dominant. Pseudomonas sp. was dominant at the early and intermediate stages of the succession, whereas A. globiformis was present in the hydrocarbon-oxidizing bacteriocenosis throughout the whole period of the succession. There was a trend toward a gradual increase in the ratio of A. globiformis, and, by the end of the experiment, Pseudomonas sp. was replaced by A. globiformis almost completely. The bacterial species Micrococcus sp. and Rhodococcus erythropolis were minor components of the hydrocarbon-oxidizing bacteriocenosis under the conditions of sulfate reduction. The succession of species of hydrocarbon-oxidizing bacteria in the paraffin film of the model association reflects both the life strategy of the bacterial species under study and the degree of their tolerance to products of sulfate reduction.  相似文献

Granular activated carbon (GAC) beds may be used for removal of dissolved organic matter during the treatment of drinking water. However, they might also change the microbiological quality of the water entering the distribution system either by changing the predominant bacteria or the bacterial density of the treated water. A 3-year pilot plant study of water treatment using GAC beds was conducted at the Baxter Water Treatment Plant in Philadelphia. During the study, bacteria were isolated from the raw water and from the effluents of the GAC treatment units. At the end of the study, bacteria were also isolated from the GAC units and from sand beds operated in parallel with the GAC units. Bacterial genera in the GAC effluents and in the GAC units themselves were similar to those found in the raw water and in the sand beds. Prechlorination and (or) preozonation of the water before GAC treatment had no noticeable effect on the bacterial genera found as compared with GAC unit having no predisinfection. The bacterial genera found in this study were similar to those found in seven other studies of GAC water treatment that used a variety of treatment schemes and a variety of heterotrophic plate count techniques to evaluate bacterial populations. From these several studies it appears that GAC treatment does not change the nature of the bacterial populations associated with drinking water.  相似文献

A bacteriological examination was done on samples of water and sediment from three localities in the Baltic. The highest numbers of bacteria were recovered from areas subjected to pollution. The isolates included members of the family Enterobacteria-ceae, the genus Pseudomonas and strains of Aeromonas hydrophila, Alteromonas putrefaciens and some Gram positive bacteria. It is suggested tentatively that H2S production in the black sediments was caused by Alt. putrefaciens. None of the isolates had an absolute requirement for NaCl, although all of them were salt-tolerant to varying degrees, and most were able to grow aerobically at salinities comparable with those found in seawater. Isolates belonging to the family Enterobacteriaceae were, however, unable to grow anaerobically under comparable conditions. Freshwater strains of several genera of the family Enterobacteriaceae and of Aeromonas hydrophila and Aer. sobria displayed salt tolerance identical with that of the Baltic isolates. One strain each of Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Yersinia enterocolitica survived well during three weeks at 17°C in artificial seawater lacking both carbon and nitrogen sources. These results suggest the need for a re-evaluation of the persistence of potentially pathogenic bacteria in the sea.  相似文献

The early stages of bacterial settlement on 70:30 copper nickel alloy was followed by scanning electron microsocopy. Two strains of marine bacteria (Pseudomonas sp and Vibrio alginolyticus) isolated from polluted harbour sea water were used. The corrosion behaviour of the alloy was studied through corrosion potential measurements made in sterile and contaminated sea water. According to our results microbial colonisation of the metal surface occurs within the first 24 h for the two bacteria used. Well defined microbial colonies with localised corrosion underneath were seen by SEM after short periods of exposure. Corrosion attack seems to be closely related to passive film modification by the bacterial settlement.  相似文献

The Baltic Sea is an estuarine ecosystem where denitrification in the low oxic and anoxic parts of the deep water contributes significantly to the nitrogen budget. Seventy-six heterotrophic, denitrifying, strains have been isolated by four cultivation procedures from the water column of the Gotland Deep, the main anoxic basin of the Central Baltic. Phylogenetic positions of representative strains of 10 different genotypes, grouped beforehand by low molecular weight (LMW) RNA profiling, were estimated by 16S rRNA sequence analysis. The 10 genotypes consisted of two members of the alpha subclass of the Proteobacteria and eight members of the gamma subclass. The major fraction of the genotypes was considered to be novel species or even genera. The gamma-Proteobacteria were the most abundant of the denitrifying isolates (96% of the total isolates) with a predominance of Shewanella baltica (77%), whereas the alpha-Proteobacteria were represented by single isolates. The diversity spectrum of Baltic sea denitrifying isolates was rather distinct from that previously described for marine and freshwater environments. Denitrifying bacteria could be isolated from all depths of the water column with the highest diversity and abundance of genotypes detected in samples of the oxic-anoxic interface, the layer of high in situ denitrification. For success of isolation of phylogenetically divers denitrifiers, both sample origin and cultivation procedure were observed to have an impact.  相似文献

Pseudomonads dominated in the hydrocarbon-oxidizing silt bacteriocenosis. However, Rodococcusand Arthrobacteria amounted to no more than 3%. Arthrobacteria dominated the microbial association formed in the paraffin film of the model system. Sulfate-reducing bacteria were represented by genera Desulfomonas, Desulfotomaculum, and Desulfovibrio. The growth of sulfate-reducing bacteria in media containing paraffin, successive products of its oxidation (cetyl alcohol, stearate, and acetate), and extracellular metabolites of hydrocarbon-reducing bacteria was studied. The data showed that sulfate-reducing bacteria did not use paraffin or cetyl alcohol as growth substrates. However, active growth of sulfate-reducing bacteria was observed in the presence of stearate and extracellular water-soluble or lipid metabolites of Arthrobacteria.  相似文献

【目的】微生物油气勘探技术是基于油气藏的轻烃微渗漏原理衍生的地表勘探技术。油气藏中的轻烃部分(C1-C5)以微渗漏的方式通过上覆的沉积层,在近地表土壤中诱导专门利用轻烃的微生物繁殖与生长,油气区的微生物种类与浓度有别于下伏没有油气藏的地区。通过分析微生物的浓度异常特征,对油气富集区及油气藏进行研究和预测。【方法】在人工模拟条件下研究油气微生物数量和群落异常特征,在此基础上,以海相碳酸盐岩气田普光气田为研究对象,进一步开展微生物勘探研究,鉴定油气藏上方气态烃氧化过程的微生物驱动者,提取土壤中的微生物异常信息。【结果】人工模拟条件下发现Lacibacter cauensis、Methylococcaceae、Methylophilaceae与甲烷气体培养正相关(气指示菌),而未培养的硫氧化微生物等则与丁烷培养正相关(油指示菌)。【结论】进一步在普光气田原位研究中进行验证,发现地表油气微生物数量和群落异常与油气藏有较好的关联性;与油气化探指标对比后发现,油气藏上方微生物正异常和轻烃负异常具有较为明显的互补关系。本研究深化了对典型油气藏上方气态烃氧化微生物转化机制的认识,为油气微生物勘探技术提供理论与实践依据。  相似文献

The ways of the creation of cyanobacterial-bacterial communities with a high remediation potential for cleaning of oil-contaminated soils and water reservoirs are considered. A special methodology was elaborated for the obtaining of bacteriologically pure (axenic) cultures of cyanobacteria: Phormidium sp. K-1, Oscillatoria sp. A-2, and Oscillatoria sp. C-3. It was shown that 14 strains of bacteria associated with these cyanobacteria manifest a hydrocarbon-oxidizing activity. They belong to the genera Pseudomonas, Alcaligenes, Arthrobacter, and Bacillus. The usage of oil-degrading bacteria, which we isolated from water reservoirs or took from collections, allowed us to construct artificial cyanobacterial-bacterial communities with a high hydrocarbon-oxidizing activity. In field experiments on the landfill site Khimpromservis Aktobe, the high remediatory effect of cyanobacterial-bacterial associations between Phormidium sp. K-1 sp. and bacteria Pseudomonas stutzeri A1, Pseudomonas sp. N2, and P. alcaligenes A5 was demonstrated. The results obtained are the basis for the elaboration of microbiological technologies of environment protection using cyanobacteria.  相似文献

Residing in a phylum of their own, ctenophores are gelatinous zooplankton that drift through the ocean's water column. Although ctenophores are known to be parasitized by a variety of eukaryotes, no studies have examined their bacterial associates. This study describes the bacterial communities associated with the lobate ctenophore Mnemiopsis leidyi and its natural predator Beroe ovata in Tampa Bay, Florida, USA. Investigations using terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism (T-RFLP) and cloning and sequencing of 16S rRNA genes demonstrated that ctenophore bacterial communities were distinct from the surrounding water. In addition, each ctenophore genus contained a unique microbiota. Ctenophore samples contained fewer bacterial operational taxonomic units (OTUs) by T-RFLP and lower diversity communities by 16S rRNA gene sequencing than the water column. Both ctenophore genera contained sequences related to bacteria previously described in marine invertebrates, and sequences similar to a sea anemone pathogen were abundant in B.?ovata. Temporal sampling revealed that the ctenophore-associated bacterial communities varied over time, with no single OTU detected at all time points. This is the first report of distinct and dynamic bacterial communities associated with ctenophores, suggesting that these microbial consortia may play important roles in ctenophore ecology. Future work needs to elucidate the functional roles and mode of acquisition of these bacteria.  相似文献

为了认识南海深海冷泉区沉积物中可培养微生物的多样性,本文以冷泉区与非冷泉区两个站点的深海沉积物为样品,通过两种培养基(R2A海水培养基和2216E培养基)直接涂布或富集后平板分离纯化,从9个样品中共得到395株菌株,并通过16SrRNA基因鉴定,分属10个属。发现产芽胞细菌分布最广、丰度最大,包括3个属、15个种。其中芽胞杆菌(Bacillus)无论是在数量还是在种类上都分布最多。并且,随着水深和沉积物深度的增加,分离到的可培养微生物丰富度降低。本研究表明,即使在冷泉区,南海深海沉积物中产芽胞细菌也比较丰富。  相似文献

The activity of antibiotic-producing marine bacteria was assayed against bacterial fish pathogens belonging to the genera Vibrio, Aeromonas, Pasteurella, Edwardsiella, Yersinia and Pseudomonas with the aim of evaluating the possible use of these marine strains for controlling epizootics in aquaculture. Inhibition tests on solid medium showed that, in general, the majority of fish bacteria were strongly sensitive to the marine bacteria. Only two strains ( Edwardsiella tarda and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ), were resistant to all the antibiotic-producing strains. The results of antagonism assays in sea water, however, varied according to the fish pathogens examined. Experiments conducted using cell-free supernatant fluids of marine bacteria demonstrated the involvement of antibiotic substances in the inhibition of fish pathogens.  相似文献

Eleven strains of hydrocarbon-oxidizing bacteria, isolated from oilfields, representing the genera Rhodococcus, Gordonia, Dietzia, and Pseudomonas, were characterized as mesophiles and neutrophiles. Rhodococci were halotolerant microorganisms growing in a media containing up to 15% NaCl. All the strains oxidized n-alkanes of crude oil. An influence of the cultivation temperatures (28 or 45 degrees C) and organic supplements on the degradation of C12-C30 n-alkanes in oxidized oil by two bacterial strains of the genus Pseudomonas was shown. The introduction of acetate, propionate, butyrate, ethanol, and sucrose led mainly to the decreased oxidation of petroleum paraffins. At certain cultivation temperatures, the addition of volatile fatty acid salts increased the content of individual n-alkanes in oxidized vs. crude oil.  相似文献

Aims:  Microbiological findings in harbour porpoises from different regions of the North Atlantic were compared. Results in animals from the North and Baltic Seas were evaluated over a period of 18 years for changes in the microbiological flora.
Methods and Results:  Microbiological investigations were performed on 1429 organ samples from the lung, liver, kidney, spleen, intestine, and mesenteric lymph nodes from harbour porpoises of the German North and Baltic Seas, Greenlandic, Icelandic and Norwegian waters. A large variety of bacteria, including potentially pathogenic bacteria like Brucella sp., Clostridium perfringens, Escherichia coli, Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae , β-haemolytic streptococci and Staphylococcus aureus were isolated . Those bacteria were associated with bronchopneumonia, gastroenteritis, hepatitis, pyelonephritis, myocarditis and septicemia.
Conclusions:  Organs from animals originating from Greenlandic and Icelandic waters showed clearly less bacterial growth and fewer associated pathological lesions compared to animals from the German North and Baltic Seas and Norwegian waters.
Significance and Impact of the Study:  Differences in bacterial findings and associated lesions between harbour porpoises from the German North and Baltic Seas and animals from Greenlandic, Norwegian and Icelandic waters may result from higher stress due to anthropogenic activities such as chemical pollutants in the North and Baltic Seas.  相似文献
