A new species of Stomatostemma (Periplocaceae) from Mozambique, Africa

VENTER, H.J. T. & FIELD, D. V., 1989. A new species of Stomatostemma (Periplocaceae) from Mozambique, Africa. A new species of Stomatostemma is described from Mozambique. 11 is [he second species distinguished in the genus Stomatostemma N.E. Br., the other being S. monteiroae (Oliv.) N.E. Br., which was also described from Mozambique. The new species is distinguished from.V. monteiroae by being a virgate shrub, by the pendulous terminal branches and inflorescences, by the long and frail peduncles and pedicels and by the long clavate corona lobes.     

A new species of Periploca (Periplocaceae) from Bangladesh

This is the only representative of the genus occurring in the flora of Bangladesh. It resembles P. graeca but may be distinguished by having shorter peduncles, glabrous calyx lobes, hairy coronal scales, broader and horizontally spreading follicles.     

A new species of Raphionacme (Periplocaceae) from north-east Africa

VENTER, H.J. T. & GILBERT, M. C, 1989. A new species of Raphionacme (Periplocaceae) from north-east Africa. A new species of Raphionacme from north-cast Africa is described. It is recognized by the puberulous lanceolate and wavy leaves, the purple corolla lobes, (he simple free filiform corona lobes, the massive laterally broadened stamina! filaments and the position of the gynoslcgium in the corolla mouth. The new species resembles R. michelii de Wild, to a certain extent. Their coronas and stamens are alike in structure and implantation. However, they differ with regard to the corolla structure and the relative position of the gynostegium in the flower, and the length of the pedicels.

A new genus, a new species, and a new record of the family Darcythompsoniidae Lang, 1936 (Gopepoda, Harpacticoida) from the Gulf of California, Mexico

A new genus and new species of the family Darcythompsoniidae Lang (1936), and a new record of Darcythompsonia fairliensis (T. Scott, 1899), from a coastal lagoon in the south-eastern Gulf of California (Mexico), are reported and fully described and illustrated. Pabellonia olganoguerae gen. no v., sp.nov. shares features with Darcythompsonia T. Scott, 1906, such as the presence of a dimorphic second endopodal segment of the male second swimming leg, and with Kristensenia Por, 1983, the lack of sexual dimorphism in the caudal rami, anal operculum and urosomites. Thus it is considered closely related to these genera, and to represent a third component of mis lineage. Some notes on the biogeography of Darcythompsonia T. Scott, 1906, are also presented.     

Korupodendron songweanum, a new genus and species of Vochysiaceae from West-Central Africa

{btKorupodendron songweanum} is described as the second genus of Vochysiaceae from Africa. Its classification, biogeography, conservation status, and local name and uses are discussed.     

A review of the alderfly genus Leptosialis Esben-Petersen (Megaloptera, Sialidae) with description of a new species from South Africa

The monotypic South African alderfly genus Leptosialis Esben-Petersen, 1920 is reviewed and Leptosialis africana Esben-Petersen, 1920 is redescribed. In the process a new species of alderfly Leptosialis necopinatasp. n. from the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal provinces of South Africa is recognised and described. Within Sialidae the new species most closely resembles Leptosialis africana. A key to the two species of Leptosialis using both adult and larval characters is provided.     

A new species and new record of the leafhopper genus Seriana Dworakowska (Hemiptera, Cicadellidae, Typhlocybinae) from China

Seriana menglaensissp. n. (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Typhlocybinae: Erythroneurini) is described and illustrated from Southwest China. Seriana equata (Singh, 1969) is recorded for the first time from China.

Summary   Blepharodon crabronum from the pre-Cambrian serranias of eastern Bolivia is described and illustrated.     

A new genus and species of pennatulacean octocoral from equatorial West Africa (Cnidaria,Anthozoa, Virgulariidae)

A new genus and species of sea pen or virgulariid pennatulacean from the Gulf of Guinea in the tropical eastern Atlantic is described, and a key to the genera of the Virgulariidae is included. The new genus and species described here adds to the previously described five other genera of the family. It is distinguished by unique sclerite and polyp leaf characters from the superficially-similar genus Virgularia, which lacks conspicuous sclerites in the polyp leaves and coenenchyme (other than minute oval bodies that are generally <0.01 mm in length).     

A new genus, two new species and a new record of subfamily Cecidophyinae (Acari, Eriophyidae) from China

A new genus and two new species belonging to subfamily Cecidophyinae, namely Kyllocarus reticulatusgen.n., sp. n. infesting Lithocarpus brevicaudatus (Skan) Hay. (Fagaceae) and Gammaphytoptus schimaesp. n.infesting Schima superba Gardn. et Champ. (Theaceae) are described and illustrated. Both new species are vagrants on their respective host plants. Cecidophyes digephyrusKeifer, 1966 is newly recorded for China.     

Another arborescent umbellifer: a new species of Steganotaenia from north-east tropical Africa

THULIN, M., 1991. Another arborescent umbellifer: a new species of Steganotaenia from north-east tropica] Africa. The new species Steganotaenia commiphoroides is described from central and southern Somalia, and south-eastern Ethiopia. It differs from the likewise arborescent S. araliacea , widespread in tropical Africa, in, for example, its 3-foliolate or occasionally simple leaves, leaf teeth with shorter aristae, shorter petioles and pedicels, and fruits with a pair of distinctly winged dorsal ridges.     

Four new species of the leafhopper genus Kapsa Dworakowska from China (Hemiptera, Cicadellidae, Typhlocybinae), with a key to Chinese species

In the present paper, four new species, Kapsa acuminata, Kapsa quadrispina, Kapsa puerensis and Kapsa yanheensisspp. n. from southwest China are described and illustrated, and a key to the species recorded from China is provided.     

Five new species of the genus Cryptopimpla Taschenberg (Hymenoptera, Ichneumonidae) with a key to species known from China

Eight species of the genus Cryptopimpla Taschenberg, 1863 are reported from China, five of them new to science: Cryptopimpla flavipedalis Sheng, sp. n., collected from Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, and Cryptopimpla rufipedalis Sheng, sp. n. collected from Jilin Province, both from the Palaearctic part of China. Cryptopimpla. carinifacialis Sheng, sp. n., Cryptopimpla flavifacialis Sheng, sp. n.and Cryptopimpla maculifacialis Sheng, sp. n. were collected from Jiangxi Province in the Oriental part of China. A key to the species of Cryptopimpla known from China is provided.     

A new genus and species in the tribe Empoascini (Hemiptera,Cicadellidae, Typhlocybinae) from China

One new leafhopper genus, Circinans, is described with a new species Circinans striata sp. n. as the type species from southern China. Habitus photos and illustrations of male genitalia of this new species are given and differences between the new genus and closely related genera are discussed.     

A new genus and species of a dendrochirotid holothurian from Southern Africa

A new genus and species of a dendrochirotid holothurian, Pawsonellus africanus , from shallow waters off the east coast of Southern Africa, are described. The new genus is compared with several genera within the family Cucumariidae and it is concluded that it is not closely related to any of them. Although its body wall spicules strongly resemble those of Panningia hyndmani (Thompson), notably the typical form described by Madsen (1942), there are several features which suggest that the two species are not congeneric.     

A new family for the isopod crustacean genus Trident el la Richardson, 1905, with description of a new species from Fiji

A new family. Tridentellidae, is established for the genus Tridentella. T. vitae sp. nov. is described and figured and T. saxicola is recorded with figures. The phylogenetic position of the family is discussed, and notes provided on the natural history of the genus.
