It is now difficult to find any studies in psychophysiology in which the galvanic skin response (GSR) is not recorded, but there is still no consensus concerning the functional significance of this reaction. Amplitude-temporal analysis was carried out of the EP components of the visual and motor areas elicited by neutral (diffuse light) and structural (checker board pattern) stimuli in different situations, defined by instruction. Interserial comparisons showed that at any instruction, the latency of the first EP component of the motor areas is reduced; as a result it can appear here simultaneously with the EP of the visual areas. At the instruction involving the subject in the process of active change of perception, activation of the right hemisphere, including the motor area, is manifest by EP parameters, while the right occipital area is activated in response to the structural stimulus, and the left one--in response to the neutral stimulus. At complication of the stimulus or instruction, the period is prolonged when the latency of EP components of the motor area is shorter than the latency of the isopolar components of the visual area--from 120 to 150 ms in response to the neutral stimuli and the neutral with their counting; from 90 to 150 ms in response to the structural stimuli; from 80 to 210 ms in response to the neutral stimuli with mental representation of the structural one.  相似文献

Intrapair resemblance of the wave form and amplitude-temporal parameters of evoked potentials (EPs) to flashes, chess field, house image, the word "house" and a series of other stimuli was evaluated in 20 pairs of monozygotic and 20 pairs of homosexual dizygotic adult twins. In the occipital area the maximum of genetic dependence was characteristic of EPs to flashes, the minimum--of EPs--to the word "house". In vertex EPs parameters genotypic effects were manifest irrespectively of the stimulus type. Genotypic dependence differed for the amplitudes and latencies of separate EP components.  相似文献

The cortical origin of the pattern onset EP has been investigated over a time window which covers the entire positive-negative-positive complex of the pattern onset EP. On the basis of a dipole source localization approach, the position, orientation and strength of the underlying sources of the pattern onset EP were estimated. For large check stimuli, chosen to have a weak edge specific component in the response, still two components are needed to account for the variance of the responses. Each component corresponds to a single dipole source, and both originate in the extrastriate cortex. These components dominate, respectively, the initial and the late positive peaks of the pattern onset EP.The equivalent dipole sources of the two components show different behaviors with respect to the position of the stimulus in the visual field. The topography and behavior of the equivalent dipole source underlying the early positive component suggest an origin in area 18. The invariance with stimulus location of the dipole source underlying the late positive component suggests an origin beyond area 18. The different topographies of the components also account for the differences in surface distribution of the pattern onset EP to large check stimulation of the upper and lower sectors of the visual field.  相似文献

Heart rate, EEG, and motor responses were recorded following presentation of a series of 6–10 sound stimuli (2.5-s tones of 1000, 4000, and 250 Hz, 70 dB, interstimulus intervals 18–25 s) in neonates aged 9 to 22 weeks during stage 2–3 sleep. The infants (17 of 19) revealed heart rate (HR) changes in response to tone stimuli that consisted in an expanded form of three phases: (1) short-latency (at 1 s after tone presentation) HR deceleration, (2) HR acceleration with a maximum at 3–5 s, and (3) late HR deceleration at 6–9 s of the poststimulus interval. The occurrence rate of the first two phases of cardiac response is relatively constant during a series of stimuli, whereas the likelihood of late HR deceleration is the highest following the first tone presentation and decreases significantly when the stimulus is repeated. Differences in the dynamics and statistical analysis allow a relative independence of all the three response phases to be suggested. The HR acceleration phase is dramatically enhanced in association with the motor response elicited by the sound stimulus. The late HR deceleration phase occurs not only after the first presentation of stimuli, but also when they are repeated if they evoke EEG reaction (vertex potentials) in response to both the beginning and end of the tone sound. Possible mechanisms of the three phases of poststimulus HR changes are: the vagal cardiac reflex associated with the acoustic (adaptive) reflex, activation of sympathetic efferents in combination with the startle reflex, and secondary vagal deceleration of sinus rhythm likely to be associated with the processes of perception (detection) of a “novel” stimulus and to serve as an indirect sign of an orienting reaction.  相似文献

The relationship between 5 positive components of somatosensory evoked potentials (EPs) and subjective response to electrical stimuli, which were recorded in the same human subjects, was assessed in the present study. Five levels of tactile stimuli and 6 levels of noxious stimuli were applied to the tip of the right index finger. The relationship between the magnitude of subjective response and stimulus intensity was well expressed by a power function. Of 5 major positive components in an EP, P30 and P50 were localized at contralateral primary somatic projection area, while P90, P190 and P270 were at the vertex area. The amplitude of the 5 components systematically increased as increasing stimulus intensity, and also increased with the magnitude of subjective response. A significant correlation between the amplitude of P30 or P50 and stimulus intensity was found when the effect of subjective response was partially out. By contrast, the amplitudes of P190 and P270 were associated with subjective response when the effect of stimulus intensity was partially out. These results suggest that the earlier EP components reflect sensory signal processing, while the latter ones concern the subjective evaluating system.  相似文献

In this study, we examined adults' cardiac reactivity to repeated infant cry sounds in a genetically informative design. Three episodes of cry stimuli were presented to a sample of 184 adult twin pairs. Cardiac reactivity increased with each cry episode, indicating that subjects were increasingly sensitized to repeated infant distress signals. Non‐parents showed more cardiac reactivity than parents, and males displayed a larger increase in heart rate (HR) in response to repeated cry sounds than females. Multivariate genetic modeling showed that the genetic component of adults' HR while listening to infant crying was substantial. Genetic factors explained 37–51% of the variance in HR and similar genes influenced HR at baseline and HR reactivity to infant crying. The remaining variance in HR across the cry paradigm was accounted for by unique environmental influences (including measurement error). These results point to genetic and experiential effects on HR reactivity to infant crying that may contribute to the explanation of variance in sensitive and harsh parenting.  相似文献

According to Pavlov's observations, the orienting reflex is a specific response to a specific stimulus, bound together in a cause and effect relationship, and having the capacity to specifically inhibit or suppress weaker, conditional reflexes. Contemporary psychophysiological research has added to the definition the well-replicated fact that the total reaction to a novel stimulus is a highly generalized increase in variability that temporarily appears in many basic and vital physiological functions--"organismic uncertainty." A systems view of the orienting reflex may be used to complement Pavlov's understanding.  相似文献

It has been shown that in animals with an intact corpus callosum the influence of photic interference is mainfested above all in EP depression. The degree of EP depression is directly dependent on the strength of the interference and is in inverse relationship with the strength of the determined stimulus. Against the background of a weak interference an other effect is possible in some cases, i.e. facilitation of the EP. These facts are interpreted as a result of postresponse subnormality of neurones and as excitation summation respectively. Section of the corpus callosum results in a weakening of the depressing effect of the photic interference on the EP appearing in response to a determined stimulus, and in an enhanced facilitating influence of weak photic interferences. A stronger influence of binocular photic interference as compared with the monocular one was observed in intact and callosotomized animals. A conclusion has been reached that the split brain has a stronger interference resistance as compared with the intact one.  相似文献

Fluctuating asymmetry (FA) is defined as random deviations from bilateral symmetry of the body. Thus, its magnitude is often used to evaluate developmental homeostasis. In this study we evaluate the following hypotheses: 1) FA of dermatoglyphic traits has a significant genetic component; 2) prenatal maternal environment (PME) has a significant effect on the FA of dermatoglyphic traits in developmentally healthy individuals; and 3) genetic or environmental factors affect FA on organismal or systemic levels. Therefore, their effect is better seen in composite scores of FA rather than in FA indices for single traits. We analyzed 15 dermatoglyphic traits from 140 pairs of monozygous twins, 120 pairs of dizygous twins, and 106 pairs of mothers and daughters. All individuals were developmentally healthy. The influence of genetic and environmental factors on FA was evaluated by analysis of variance and regression analysis. For a majority of the traits in our study, FA showed significant but weak heritabilities, with values falling within the 0.20-0.35 range. None of the traits taken separately demonstrated the effect of PME on FA to be significantly greater than zero. The composite score of FA tended to have greater heritability values than individual traits. One of them, obtained in principal components analysis, showed a significant PME effect, supporting the hypothesis that FA is a systemic property.  相似文献

Parameters of the components of visual evoked potentials recorded in children aged 8 and 11 years make it possible to predict intelligence indices (according to Wechsler’s test) of the same individuals at the age of 22–23 years. The efficiency of this prediction exhibits dependence on the parameter of the evoked potential (EP), the type of the stimulus, site of recording, and the subject’s age. The presence of genetic correlations between the EP parameters and intelligence indices indicates the existence of common genetic factors involved in the formation of inter-age, inter-level phenotypic relationships of different indices of cognitive functions of a person.  相似文献

A polygraphic study of the somatic, autonomic and electroencephalographic (EEG) components of the orienting reaction elicited by an auditory stimulus was performed in 29 patients with post-meningoencephalitic epilepsy and in 116 matched subjects in three control groups. Patients with post-meningoencephalitic epilepsy had a significantly more intense orienting reaction than control subjects, the degree depending on the seizure frequency, electroclinical form and history, as well as on the features of the EEG.  相似文献

The heart rate (HR) response to stimulation is described as a biphasic function with a phase of deceleration and acceleration. The deceleration is interpreted as a component of orienting behavior or of stimulus intake and acceleration as a sign of internal information processing going along with the rejection of external stimulation. However, there are many authors who do not support this assumption. The question arises whether the heart rate patterns are concomitant or even dependent on breathing behavior. Also the sensitivity of HR as an indicator of influence of selfregulatory processes on physiological functions remains still a problem for future studies. In general it may be concluded that the HR is one of the relatively independent indices of changes in the level of activation or mobilization. The HR in healthy subjects is a function not only of intensity and modality of the stimulus but also of prestimulus level of activation and its dependence on breathing behavior. At the same time there is evidence of a connection of HR with high cognitive processes which in an interaction of the organism and environment together with volitional processes have a regulatory function.  相似文献

Evoked potentials (EP) were recorded in the projection and non-projection areas of the cerebral cortex in juveniles in response to exposures of structured visual stimuli with subthreshold and supraliminal durations. The data obtained have shown that recognition of the presented stimulus is attended with intensification of the EP late complex. This effect is most pronouned in the central and frontal parts of the cortex. The Nv component with a 240 to 300 msec latency has a more regular connection with recognition as compared with other components.  相似文献

A polygraphic study of the somatic (EMG), autonomic (finger plethysmogram, galvanic skin reaction, respiration, pulse, and EEG (acoustic-evoked potential and EEG-blocking reaction) components of the orienting reaction elicited by an auditory stimulus was performed in 71 patients with multiple sclerosis and in 74 matched normal subjects (control group). The study showed a significantly less intense orienting reaction in patients with multiple sclerosis than in control normal subjects. The severity of this responsiveness disturbance depended on the patients' age at symptom onset, major symptom types on admission, and the relapse frequency. The orienting reaction changes found in patients with multiple sclerosis may be ascribed to the diffuse demyelinating lesions in the nervous system of these patients, which generate, apart from the so polymorphous clinical manifestations of this disease, also important responsiveness disturbances.  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to examine whether breathing pattern may be used as a reliable index for the effectiveness of techniques applied for the regulation of mental states. Heart rate (HR), breathing pattern, galvanic skin response (GSR), and electromyogram (EMG) of the frontalis muscle were measured in 39 male and female subjects aged 18–25 years during 10-minute treatment with relaxation technique (autogenic training and/or music) followed by 10 minutes of imagery training. In the first 7 sessions biofeedback (BFB) was not included, while during the last 6 sessions BFB was introduced and utilized by the subjects. Relaxation (music or autogenic training) led to a decrease in breathing frequency, attributed to lengthening of expiration time, as well as reduced HR, GSR, and frontalis EMG response. In most instances imagery training was related to an increase in these indices. Specifically, significant tachypnea was observed during imagery of sprint running. In most cases BFB substantially augmented the physiological responses. In conclusion, our data suggest that, compared with HR, GSR, and EMG responses, the breathing pattern is at least as sensitive to the mental techniques employed, and may be useful as a psychophysiological index for diagnosis and testing, especially in sport practice.  相似文献

The increasing prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) poses a serious public‐health problem worldwide. Effective prevention and intervention require improved understanding of the factors that contribute to MS. We analyzed data on a large twin cohort to estimate genetic and environmental contributions to MS and to major MS components and their intercorrelations: waist circumference (WC), systolic (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP), fasting plasma glucose (FPG), triglycerides (TGs), and high‐density lipoprotein–cholesterol (HDL‐C). We applied structural equation modeling to determine genetic and environmental structure of MS and its major components, using 1,617 adult female twin pairs recruited from rural China. The heritability estimate for MS was 0.42 (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.00–0.83) in this sample with low MS prevalence (4.4%). For MS components, heritability estimates were statistically significant and ranged from 0.13 to 0.64 highest for WC, followed by TG, SBP, DBP, HDL‐C, and FPG. HDL‐C was mainly influenced by common environmental factors (0.62, 95% CI: 0.58–0.62), whereas the other five MS components were largely influenced by unique environmental factors (0.32–0.44). Bivariate Cholesky decomposition analysis indicated that the clinical clustering of MS components may be explained by shared genetic and/or environmental factors. Our study underscores the importance of examining MS components as intercorrelated traits, and to carefully consider environmental and genetic factors in studying MS etiology.  相似文献

The study showed significant retention disturbances of orienting reaction habituation (i.e., of learning), or the "saving" of stimulations, achieved from one session to the other to obtain the habituation criterion, the savings being less in alcoholics than in control subjects. The severity of habituation retention disturbances depended on patients' ages, types of alcoholism, alcohol consumption intensity and chronicity, as well as the type of resting EEG.  相似文献
