Stylaria lacustris (L.) was offered 14C-labelled algae. The ingestion rate of diatoms was 0.79 g carbon/hour at 19°C. Diatoms (Nitzschia actinastroides) were well assimilated, green algae (Scenedesmus acuminatus) were practically not assimilated. The less assimilable algae are ingested at higher rates, indicating a regulation mechanism. Biomass doubling time was estimated to be about 3.6 days at 19°C.  相似文献

The peculiarities of the growth in weight and length of Stylaria lacustris (L.) on the basis of observations in experimental vessels are considered. The growth of this species fits a parabolic curve. The Oligochaeta and Aphanoneura in the aufwuchs on Phragmites australis in a eutrophic hardwater lake were studied at two sites over a period of one year, in order to elucidate the structure and dynamics of this assemblage. The naidids Chaetogaster diastrophus, Nais spp., and Stylaria lacustris dominated the assemblage at any season. At both sites these taxa showed the same distinct pattern of successive population maxima in spring and summer: Chaetogaster diastrophus reached its peak density first, followed by Nais species, and eventually by Stylaria lacustris. Differences in temporal dynamics between sites were small apart from a second Stylaria maximum which was only observed at one site. Total naidid densities reached peak values of 3.8 individuals per cm2 reed stem surface area. With mean individual biomass of 2.2 µg dry mass for Chaetogaster diastrophus, 13.3 µg for Nais, and 86 µg for Stylaria lacustris, respectively, maximum total naidid biomass on reed stems was 44 µg dry mass per cm2. The biomass peak occurred later than that of total naidid density because in summer larger naidids dominated the assemblage. The observed succession appears to be consistent with seasonal changes in periphytic algal communities on the reed stems.  相似文献

Asexual reproduction is employed by species of Naididae during favorable environmental conditions. In species characteristic of aquatic habitats subject to rapid fluctuations in water levels and temperatures most individuals in a population become sexually mature, and there is degeneration of the alimentary tract, a shortened breeding season, and aclitellar formation of cocoons. Cocoon deposition allows a population to survive periods of environmental stress. Sexual reproduction predominates near the edges of ranges where stress conditions are more prevalent. Species that reproduce sexually in spring are intolerant of summer conditions, while those that breed in autumn are intolerant of winter. Species typical of environmentally stable bodies of water usually have a minority of the population mature at any time, an extended breeding season, and the ability to continue feeding while mature; thus, adaptations for survival in unstable habitats are lacking.  相似文献

The gut contents ofNais elinguis in an organically polluted river were dominated by epilithic chlorophycean unicells and pennate diatoms with an average cell volume of 1.3 × 103 µm3. The worm unselectively and opportunistically ingested unicellular algae up to a maximum length of 196 µm and a maximum volume of 24 × 103 µm3, but colonial and filamentous algae were discriminated against. The morphometry of the pharynx ofN. elinguis probably determined the maximum size of algal cells which could be ingested.  相似文献

The population dynamics of Bosmina longirostris in a large tropical reservoir, Lake Kariba, Zimbabwe, are described. Population density showed two peaks associated with periods of high nutrient fluxes. Fecundity was always low. Two eggs per female was the maximum ever recorded. Instantaneous rates of birth, death and population growth calculated from field data using the egg ratio method are discussed. The rate of biomass change fluctuated in a regular pattern, probably linked to food availability or predation by a clupeid, Limnothrissa miodon.  相似文献

The Danube Delta is one of the widest wetland systems in Europe and Lake Isacova is one of the biggest lakes in the Delta. The oligochaete community in the Lake comprised 52% of the total benthic fauna and Potamothrix hammoniensis (Michaelsen, 1901) (Tubificidae, Oligochaeta) represented more than 90% of the oligochaetes sampled. During September 1991 – August 1994, the proportion of ovigerous individuals of P. hammoniensis represented less than 20% of the total population, with localised differences in the Lake occurring over time. Breeding and cocoon production in the study period started in March of the year, when the water temperature was about 7 °C, and lasted until May 1992 and June 1993, respectively. The newly hatched individuals reached the highest proportion in May. Although large individuals were found again by the end of September (1991) and the beginning of October (1993), no spermatozeugmata in their spermathecae or cocoons were observed during November and October, respectively. Member of this cohort bred and started cocoon deposition during the following spring, after about 11 months of maturation (from April to March). A second, less intensive period of breeding was recorded during August 1992 and this lasted until the beginning of September 1993. However, cocoons from this latter period did not show embryonic growth and hatching until the autumn floods bring oxygenated water to the bottom level. This resulted in a period of rapid development followed by the mass hatching of cocoons. These specimens needed a maximum of 9 month (from October to July) to reach sexual maturity.  相似文献

Spatial distribution of Gammarus lacustris in Lake Shira and growth of young specimens that feed on lake biota were studied. The amphipods have been shown to inhabit the littoral, sublittoral and the upper aphytal zones of the lake on stony-sandy soil and silted sand. The young and adult individuals stay apart. The young live in submerged or semi-submerged vegetation in the littoral, the adults in the sublittoral and upper aphytal zones. Maximum density of amphipods was encountered in the areas influenced by human activity.The feeding experiments revealed that the lake plankton is a more important food source for G. lacustris than any other food species. The specific growth rate measured was 0.039 d–1, with a length increment 0.095 mm d–1.  相似文献

The annual dynamics of the phototrophic bacterial populations developing in the anoxic layers has been monitored in three basins of the northern area of Lake Banyoles (Spain). Although two of the studied basins are meromictic and one is holomictic, chemical properties of the water are almost identical. Therefore, differences in both the spatial and temporal distribution, as well as in the composition of phototrophic bacterial communities, dominated by Chlorobium phaeobacteroides and Chromatium minus, are discussed on the basis of the structural and morphometric characteristics of each basin. Both species showed the same physiological adaptations to light intensity changes by modifying the carotenoid/bacteriochlorophyll ratio. Light reaching the oxic-anoxic boundary appears to be the most important factor controlling the growth of phototrophic bacteria in Lake Banyoles. The oxic-anoxic boundary becomes shallower as summer advances, until enough light is available for bacterial photosynthesis.  相似文献

Feeding habits and dietary overlap of three species of naidid oligochaetes (Chaetogaster diastrophus, Dero digitata, Dero nivea) were studied during June 1982–December 1983 from a bog stream in Wisconsin, USA. Chaetogaster diastrophus primarily ingested diatoms, while D. digitata and D. nivea primarily ingested detritus. Dietary overlap was substantial (97–98%) between D. digitata and D. nivea using the dietary overlap coefficient. Dietary overlap between C. diastrophus and D. digitata was 58–62% and that between C. diastrophus and D. nivea was 51–55%. Dietary differences existed between the three species in the percentage of each major food type and diatom genera ingested, selective ingestion or avoidance of diatom genera and in the size classes (length and/or volume) of diatoms consumed. These data suggest temporal coexistence of these species may possibly be due to complex food resource partitioning, although in this habitat, C. diastrophus, D. digitata, and D. nivea did not exhibit concurrent peak abundances; thus, interspecific competition for food was minimized.  相似文献

The development of the male genital ducts in Clitellio arenarius, Tubificoides benedii, Heterochaeta costata (Tubificidae) and Stylaria lacustris (Naididae) is studied with the purpose of investigating the homologies between different parts of the ducts. In both Tubificidae and Naididae, the male duct comprises a funnel, a vas deferens and an atrium. There may also be a prostate gland (diffuse or compact) in association with the duct. The funnel and vas deferens, in all four species, originate from the peritoneal (mesodermal) cells in the posterior septa in the testes segment, whereas the atrium develops from an epidermal (ectodermal) invagination. The prostate glands have different origins in different taxa; in S. lacustris it differentiates from the peritoneal (mesodermal) cells surrounding the atrium, but in H. costata and T. benedii it develops by a multiplication of the atrial (ectodermal) cells; C. arenarius lacks a prostate gland. The development of the spermathecae and the female duct is also studied. The spermatheca is an epidermal invagination. The female duct is of mesodermal origin. However, the position of the duct differs; in S. lacustris the female duct is lateral and the pore is in the ovarian segment, while in the tubificids studied the duct is ventral with the pore in the segment behind the one containing the ovary.  相似文献

Except for a robust habit, two specimens ofAloina collected in northern Argentina are morphologically similar and are tentatively attributed toA. rigida (Hedw.) Limpr. This represents an addition to the moss flora of Argentina. In addition, two specimens ofAloinella represent significant findings: one shows features that agree with those given in the protologue forA. galeata (Müll. Hal.) Broth. and is treated here asA. galeata var.galeata to show the relationship toA. galeta var.andina (Delgad.) Delgadillo & Schiavone stat. nov.; the other belongs inA. cucullifera (Mitt.) This paper provides a summary of the diversity and distribution of Australian naidid and phreodrilid oligochaetes. As for other continents, the Australian naidid fauna consists mostly of cosmopolitan species, although there are indications of greater endemicity than currently recognised. While some naidids are widespread in Australia, others have a northern or a southern bias to their distribution, but few have been recorded in Tasmania. Many new records and species of Phreodrilidae have been documented since the review by Pinder & Brinkhurst (1997a) and these have allowed notions of phreodrilid zoogeography to be refined. The family is still considered particularly diverse in some temperate areas (Tasmania and the far south-west of Western Australia), but surprisingly few species are known from the temperate south-east mainland. Increasingly, new phreodrilid species are being collected from seasonal habitats on granite outcrops in the south-west and from refugial habitats (caves, groundwater and permanent river pools) in drier regions. A complete picture of oligochaete distributions will require much more work and patterns suggested by current data are presented here as hypotheses.  相似文献

Most green gemmules of Spongilla lacustris survived enclosure in ice at –20 °C for up to 30 days; however, their rate of germination at 20 °C was less rapid than that of control gemmules. The length of time spent at low temperature had little effect on gemmule survival. In contrast, repeated cooling to –20 °C and warming to 4 °C led to a progressive decline in gemmule viability. These results indicate that cold injury occurs primarily during transitions between high and low temperatures.  相似文献

Enchytraeus fragmentosus (Enchytraeidae) and Stylaria lacustris (Naididae) are small terrestrial and limnetic oligochaetes that exclusively or seasonally reproduce by fragmentation and regeneration, respectively. We traced the neuronal development and differentiation during regeneration in order to gain information on the basic organization and evolution of the oligochaete nervous system. Subsequent to artificial amputation, the nervous systems have been stained with antibodies directed against acetylated alpha-tubulin. The staining was analyzed by indirect fluorescence in combination with confocal laser scanning microscopy. Both species show unique oligochaete neuronal regeneration patterns: (i) numerous fibers branch off from segmental nerves near the wound site and innervate the blastema; and (ii) the ventral cord is partly reestablished before the circumesophageal connectives develop. In the investigated 'Oligochaeta' the outgrowing fibers of the ventral nerve cord are soon bundled into at least two distinct connective pairs, which prolong into dorsal and ventral roots next to the mouth. Subsequent complete fusion of the doubled roots forms simple connectives. Thus, dorsal roots are not a unique feature for 'Polychaeta'. They occur as a transient structure in 'Oligochaeta' and might be part of the neuronal ground pattern of Annelida. The initially tetra or even pentaneuronal ventral nerve cord also differentiates into an unineuronal one by fusion.  相似文献

Oxiclinal rotifer species show high concentrations just above the oxic-anoxic interface in the hypolimnion of some lakes. The stratification of their populations is best shown by sampling at close depth intervals and quantifying their densities by the Utermöhl technique. With this technique we were able to count males which otherwise pass through filters and more accurately count egg production. We evaluated female, male and egg numbers of the two main oxiclinal species of lake Arcas-2: Filinia hofmanni and Anuraeopsis fissa, during two annual cycles (1990–91). F. hofmanni was an exclusive oxiclinal species. It had an exponential growth phase at the onset of stratification giving a distinct spring peak. The population then maintained a high density during summer, but was almost absent the rest of the year. This cycle is repeated annually but population density can vary among years, depending on winter-spring circulation. Sexuality was always observed when the animal was present in the samples, with a maximum of males and resting eggs at the peak of the population. Resting eggs were always inside females. The annual cycle of A. fissa is displaced with respect to that of F. hofmanni: A. fissa attained greatest densities during summer, until the autumn overturn. Mixis in A. fissa was restricted to the end of the stratification period. Moreover, A. fissa occured throughout the vertical profile and secondarily occupied the oxicline.  相似文献
