Two strains of psychrotrophic, gram-positive, proteolytic bacteria isolated from raw milk were identified as Arthrobacter or closely related coryneform species. We inoculated raw-milk samples with the strains (one strain per sample) and compared rates of gelation after ultrahigh-temperature processing with that of ultrahigh-temperature-processed controls. The trial indicated that either organism could play a role in age gelation of ultrahigh-temperature-processed milk.  相似文献

The microbial composition of artisan and industrial animal rennet pastes was studied by using both culture-dependent and -independent approaches. Pyrosequencing targeting the 16S rRNA gene allowed to identify 361 operational taxonomic units (OTUs) to the genus/species level. Among lactic acid bacteria (LAB), Streptococcus thermophilus and some lactobacilli, mainly Lactobacillus crispatus and Lactobacillus reuteri, were the most abundant species, with differences among the samples. Twelve groups of microorganisms were targeted by viable plate counts revealing a dominance of mesophilic cocci. All rennets were able to acidify ultrahigh-temperature-processed (UHT) milk as shown by pH and total titratable acidity (TTA). Presumptive LAB isolated at the highest dilutions of acidified milks were phenotypically characterized, grouped, differentiated at the strain level by randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD)-PCR analysis, and subjected to 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Only 18 strains were clearly identified at the species level, as Enterococcus casseliflavus, Enterococcus faecium, Enterococcus faecalis, Enterococcus lactis, Lactobacillus delbrueckii, and Streptococcus thermophilus, while the other strains, all belonging to the genus Enterococcus, could not be allotted into any previously described species. The phylogenetic analysis showed that these strains might represent different unknown species. All strains were evaluated for their dairy technological performances. All isolates produced diacetyl, and 10 of them produced a rapid pH drop in milk, but only 3 isolates were also autolytic. This work showed that animal rennet pastes can be sources of LAB, mainly enterococci, that might contribute to the microbial diversity associated with dairy productions.  相似文献

S ummary . In the course of investigations on the incidence of micro-organisms on turkey giblets, in liquid egg and on meats, determinations were made of coryneform bacteria. Corynebacterium was the most common of 15 genera of micro-organisms isolated from turkey giblets; Brevibacterium and Arthrobacter were also recovered. Species of Corynebacteriaceae were included among the most predominant contaminants in 9 of 17 samples of commercial liquid egg. Of these bacteria, Arthrobacter was most prevalent comprising 18% of the total number of isolates. Gram positive nonmotile rods recovered from fresh beef showed characteristics of Microbacterium and were similar to M. lacticum but failed to ferment lactose or survive temperatures higher than 60° for 30 min.  相似文献

The major cell wall amino acids and sugars in 177 strains of coryneform bacteria were determined using a 'rapid'method. Representatives were examined for free mycolic acids and the oxygen requirements of all strains were determined. Included were named strains, most of which were labelled Arthrobacter, Brevibacterium, Cellulomonas, Corynebacterium or Microbacterium , and a similar number of unnamed isolates from various natural sources. Strains which contained meso -diaminopimelic acid (DAP) were divided into four groups according to their oxygen requirements, the wall sugars and the occurrence and nature of free mycolic acids. Group 1 strains were mainly facultatively anaerobic and contained arabinose and mycolic acids of the Corynebacterium type. They were considered to be members of Corynebacterium sensu stricto and included Cor. diphtheriae and related animal parasites, Microbact. flavum , and Cor. glutamicum and similar species. Group 2 strains were aerobic, contained arabinose and mycolic acids of the 'rhodochrous'type and were considered members of the ' rhodochrous 'complex. Group 3 strains were aerobic, contained ribose and no mycolic acids. Most were Br. linens strains from cheese but a few, possibly related strains, were from other habitats. Group 4 strains were aerobic and contained neither a pentose sugar nor mycolic acids and were of unknown taxonomic status. Most remaining strains contained lysine or ornithine in the wall and smaller numbers contained L-DAP or diaminobutyric acid; none contained mycolic acids. The chemotaxonomic data are discussed in relation to recent numerical taxonomic studies of coryneform bacteria.  相似文献

Bacteria were isolated from soil and crown gall tumors by selection in minimal medium with an opine, such as succinamopine or mannopine, as the sole carbon source. The isolates were characterized for the pattern of opine utilization and identified. They were classified as mannityl opine or imino diacid utilizers and exhibited specificity of utilization similar to that described previously for Agrobacterium species. A minority of isolates were gram negative and were identified as Agrobacterium or Pseudomonas species; most were gram positive and belonged to the coryneform group. These results indicate that any specific effect of opines on the ecology of Agrobacterium tumefaciens is modulated by activities of other types of soil- and plant-associated bacteria.  相似文献

Gram-positive, catalase-positive, nonsporeforming, pleomorphic rods isolated from pond-reared shrimp and pond water were compared with type cultures of the Corynebacteriaceae. Classification of the type cultures based on 66 cell and colony characters proved comparable to one based on 163 morphological, biochemical, and physiological characters. This similarity was not observed with pond isolates. With the aid of numerical analysis, pond isolates could be placed into six major groups based on certain biochemical and physiological tests. Coryneform bacteria isolated from shrimp and water exhibited little similarity to the type cultures. The pond isolates probably are members of the Corynebacteriaceae not previously studied in detail.  相似文献
