Rates of net photosynthesis (P N) and transpiration (E), and leaf temperature (TL) of maintenance leaves of tea under plucking were affected by photosynthetic photon flux densities (PPFD) of 200–2 200 μmol m−2 s−1. P N gradually increased with the increase of PPFD from 200 to 1 200 μmol m−2 s−1 and thereafter sharply declined. Maximum P N was 13.95 μmol m−2 s−1 at 1 200 μmol m−2 s−1 PPFD. There was no significant variation of P N among PPFD at 1 400–1 800 μmol m−2 s−1. Significant drop of P N occurred at 2 000 μmol m−2 s−1. PPFD at 2 200 μmol m−2 s−1 reduced photosynthesis to 6.92 μmol m−2 s−1. PPFD had a strong correlation with TL and E. Both TL and E linearly increased from 200 to 2 200 μmol m−2 s−1 PPFD. TL and E were highly correlated. The optimum TL for maximum P N was 26.0 °C after which P N declined significantly. E had a positive correlation with P N.  相似文献

Independent short-term effects of photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) of 50–400 μmol m−2 s−1, external CO2 concentration (C a) of 85–850 cm3 m−3, and vapor pressure deficit (VPD) of 0.9–2.2 kPa on net photosynthetic rate (P N), stomatal conductance (g s), leaf internal CO2 concentration (C i), and transpiration rates (E) were investigated in three cacao genotypes. In all these genotypes, increasing PPFD from 50 to 400 μmol m−2 s−1 increased P N by about 50 %, but further increases in PPFD up to 1 500 μmol m−2 s−1 had no effect on P N. Increasing C a significantly increased P N and C i while g s and E decreased more strongly than in most trees that have been studied. In all genotypes, increasing VPD reduced P N, but the slight decrease in g s and the slight increase in C i with increasing VPD were non-significant. Increasing VPD significantly increased E and this may have caused the reduction in P N. The unusually small response of g s to VPD could limit the ability of cacao to grow where VPD is high. There were no significant differences in gas exchange characteristics (g s, C i, E) among the three cacao genotypes under any measurement conditions.  相似文献

Six months old in vitro-grown Anoectochilus formosanus plantlets were transferred to ex-vitro acclimation under low irradiance, LI [60 μmol(photon) m−2 s−1], intermediate irradiance, II [180 μmol(photon) m−2 s−1], and high irradiance, HI [300 μmol(photon) m−2 s−1] for 30 d. Imposition of II led to a significant increase of chlorophyll (Chl) b content, rates of net photosynthesis (P N) and transpiration (E), stomatal conductance (g s), electron transfer rate (ETR), quantum yield of electron transport from water through photosystem 2 (ΦPS2), and activity of ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/ oxygenase (RuBPCO, EC 4.1.1.39). This indicates that Anoectochilus was better acclimated at II compared to LI treatment. On the other hand, HI acclimation led to a significant reduction of Chl a and b, P N, E, g s, photochemical quenching, dark-adapted quantum efficiency of open PS2 centres (Fv/Fm), probability of an absorbed photon reaching an open PS2 reaction centre (Fv′/Fm′), ETR, ΦPS2, and energy efficiency of CO2 fixation (ΦCO2PS2). This indicates that HI treatment considerably exceeded the photo-protective capacity and Anoectochilus suffered HI induced damage to the photosynthetic apparatus. Imposition of HI significantly increased the contents of antheraxanthin and zeaxanthin (ZEA), non-photochemical quenching, and conversion of violaxanthin to ZEA. Thus Anoectochilus modifies its system to dissipate excess excitation energy and to protect the photosynthetic machinery.  相似文献

The Amazonian peach palm (Bactris gasipaes Kunth) has been grown for heart-of-palm production under subtropical conditions. As we did not see any substantial study on its photosynthesis under Amazonian or subtropical conditions, we carried out an investigation on the diurnal and seasonal variations in photosynthesis of peach palms until the first heart-of-palm harvest, considering their relationship with key environmental factors. Spineless peach palms were grown in 80-L plastic pots, under irrigation. Gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence emission measurements were taken in late winter, mid spring, mid summer and early autumn, from 7:00 to 18:00 h, with an additional chlorophyll fluorescence measurement at 6:00 h. The highest net CO2 assimilation (P N), observed in mid summer, reached about 15 μmol m−2 s−1, which was about 20% higher than the maximum values found in autumn and spring, and 60% higher than that in winter The same pattern of diurnal course for P N was observed in all seasons, showing higher values from 8:00 to 9:00 h and declining gradually from 11:00 h toward late afternoon. The diurnal course of stomatal conductance (g s) followed the same pattern of P N, with the highest value of 0.6 mol m−2 s−1 being observed in February and the lowest one (0.23 mol m−2 s−1) in September. The maximal quantum yield of photosystem II (Fv/Fm) was above 0.75 in the early morning in all the months. The reversible decrease was observed around midday in September and October, suggesting the occurrence of dynamic photoinhibition. A significant negative correlation between the leaf-air vapour pressure difference (VPDleaf-air) and P N and a positive correlation between P N and g s were observed. The photosynthesis of peach palm was likely modulated mainly by the stomatal control that was quite sensible to atmospheric environmental conditions. Under subtropical conditions, air temperature (T air) and VPDleaf-air impose more significant effects over P N of peach palm than an excessive photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD). The occurrence of dynamic photoinhibition indicates that under irrigation, peach palms appeared to be acclimated to the full-sunlight conditions under which they have been grown.  相似文献

To investigate whether brassinosteroids (BRs) could be used to alleviate chill-induced inhibition of photosynthesis in cucumber (Cucumis sativus L) during chilling and subsequent recovery, the effects of exogenously applied 24-epibrassinolide (EBR) on gas exchange, chlorophyll fluorescence parameters, and antioxidant enzyme activity were studied. Cucumber plants were exposed to chilling under low light (12/8°C and 100 μmol m−2 s−1 PPFD) for 3 days and then recovered under normal temperature and high irradiance (28/18°C and 600 μmol m−2 s−1 PPFD) for 6 days. Chilling significantly decreased the net photosynthetic rate (P N) and stomatal conductance (g s), and increased rate of O2 ·− formation and H2O2 and malondialdehyde (MDA) content in cucumber leaves, but did not influence the optimal quantum yield of PSII (Fv/Fm). Chilling also decreased the effective quantum yield of PSII photochemistry (ΦPSII) and photochemical quenching (qP), but induced an increase in nonphotochemical quenching (NPQ), and the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX). High irradiance (600 μmol m−2 s−1) further aggravated the decrease in P N, g s, ΦPSII and qP, and enhanced the increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and accumulation in the first day of recovery after chilling. However, high irradiance induced a sharp decrease in Fv/Fm and NPQ, as well as the activities of SOD and APX on the first day of recovery. EBR pretreatment significantly alleviated chill-induced inhibition of photosynthesis during chilling stress and subsequent recovery period, which was mainly due to significant increases in g s, ΦPSII, qP and NPQ. EBR pretreatment also reduced ROS generation and accumulation, and increased the activities of SOD and APX during chilling and subsequent recovery. Those results suggest that EBR pretreatment alleviates the chill reduction in photosynthesis and accelerated the recovery rate mainly by increasing of the stomatal conductance, the efficiency of utilization and dissipation of leaf absorbed light, and the activity of the ROS scavenging system during chilling and subsequent recovery period.  相似文献

Irradiance data software developed by the NREL Solar Radiation Laboratory (Simple Model of Atmospheric Radiative Transfer of Sunshine, SMARTS) has been used for modelling photosynthesis. Spectra and total irradiance were expressed in terms of quanta [mol m−2 s−1, photosynthetic photon flux density, PPFD (400–700 nm)]. Using the SMARTS software it is possible to (1) calculate the solar spectrum for a planar surface for any given solar elevation angle, allowing for the attenuating effects of the atmosphere on extraterrestrial irradiance at each wavelength in the 400–700 nm range and for the thickness of atmosphere the light must pass through during the course of a day, (2) calculate PPFD vs. solar time for any latitude and date and (3) estimate total daily irradiance for any latitude and date and hence calculate the total photon irradiance for a whole year or for a growing season. Models of photosynthetic activity vs. PPFD are discussed. Gross photosynthesis (P g) vs. photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) (P g vs. I) characteristics of single leaves compared to that of a canopy of leaves are different. It is shown that that the optimum irradiance for a leaf (Iopt) is the half-saturation irradiance for a battery of leaves in series. A C3 plant, with leaves having an optimum photosynthetic rate at 700 μmol m−2 s−1 PPFD, was used as a realistic worked example. The model gives good estimates of gross photosynthesis (P g) for a given date and latitude. Seasonal and annual estimates of P g can be made. Taking cloudiness into account, the model predicts maximum P g rates of about 10 g(C) m−2 d−1, which is close to the maximum reported P g experimental measurements.  相似文献

In carob tree (Ceratonia siliqua) radiant energy saturated net photosynthetic rate (P N) during summer was about 10 % of the spring values. This was accompanied by a reduction in stomatal conductance (g s), which only partially explains the strong reduction in P N. Photosynthetic capacity (P max) and quantum yield (Φ), both measured under saturating CO2, had the maximum in spring (about 34 μmol m−2 s−1 and 0.08 mol mol−1, respectively) and both decreased in late summer to about 55 % of their spring values. Despite strong decreases in Φ, photoinhibition of photosystem 2 (PS2) was negligible or easily reversible in carob leaves subjected to summer drought, since Fv/Fm, measured in the morning, did not show appreciable changes. The recovery of affected parameters was very rapid after the first rains in late October. The chlorophyll (Chl) alb ratio in the end of the summer was 2.6, a value significantly lower than 3.6 obtained in the spring, suggesting that Chl a was preferentially reduced. Photosynthetic parameters, growth, and pigment contents were determined during expansion of the fourth leaf of in vitro photoautotrophically cultured Nicotiana tabacum L. plants at three irradiances [photosynthetically active radiation (400–700 nm): low, LI 60 μmol m−2 s−1; middle, MI 180 μmol m−2 s−1; and high, HI 270 μmol m−2 s−1]. During leaf expansion, several symptoms usually accompanying leaf senescence appeared very early in HI and then in MI plants. Symptoms of senescence in developing leaves were: decreasing chlorophyll (Chl) a+b content and Chl a/b ratio, decreasing both maximum (FV/FM) and actual (ΦPS2) photochemical efficiency of photosystem 2, and increasing non-photochemical quenching. Nevertheless, net photosynthetic oxygen evolution rate (P N) did not decrease consistently with decrease in Chl content, but exhibited a typical ontogenetic course with gradual increase. P N reached its maximum before full leaf expansion and then tended to decline. Thus excess irradiance during in vitro cultivation did not cause early start of leaf senescence, but impaired photosynthetic performance and Chl content in leaves and changed their typical ontogenetic course.  相似文献

In crowns of chestnut trees the absorption of radiant energy is not homogeneous; leaves from the south (S) side are the most irradiated, but leaves from the east (E) and west (W) sides receive around 70 % and those from north (N) face less than 20 % of the S irradiation. Compared to the S leaves, those from the N side were 10 % smaller, their stomata density was 14 % smaller, and their laminae were 21 % thinner. N leaves had 0.63 g(Chl) m−2, corresponding to 93 % of total chlorophyll (Chl) amount in leaves of S side. The ratios of Chl a/b were 2.9 and 3.1 and of Chl/carotenoids (Car) 5.2 and 4.8, respectively, in N and S leaves. Net photosynthetic rate (P N) was 3.9 μmol(CO2) m−2 s−1 in S leaves, in the E, W, and N leaves 81, 77, and 38 % of that value, respectively. Morning time (10:00 h) was the period of highest P N in the whole crown, followed by 13:00 h (85 % of S) and 16:00 h with 59 %. Below 500 μmol m−2 s−1 of photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD), N leaves produced the highest P N, while at higher PPFD, the S leaves were most active. In addition, the fruits from S side were 10 % larger than those from the N side.  相似文献

Field studies of gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence of three desert shrub species, Hedysarum fruticosum var. mongolicum, Artemisia ordosia, and Salix pasmmophylla, showed different patterns under different leaf temperature (T1) and incident photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD). H. fruticosum var. mongolicum and A. ordosia exhibited higher P N and g s than S. pasmmophylla, especially under very high T1 (>46 °C) and high PPFD (>2 100 µmol m–2 s–1) in hot summer. The decreases of P N with the diurnal course were due mainly to stomata closure. However, P N of S. pasmmophylla was seriously depressed by very high temperature from midday to evening as shown by the negative P N in hot summer, whereas none of such depression was found in spring. Maximal spring photochemical efficiency of photosystem 2 (PS2), i.e, Fv/Fm, was the lowest at 16:00, indicating the injury of PS2 by heat at this stage. In hot summer again, all the three shrubs underwent pronounced midday depression of P N and g s, while in spring they showed a one-peak response. And the first peak appeared 2 h earlier in hot summer than in spring for all the three shrubs. It was the high temperature that led to the different patterns of gas exchange and the serious depression of P N in S. pasmmophylla. H. fruticosum var. mongolicum and A. ordosia were much more tolerant to heat and high irradiance than S. pasmmophylla, which fixed most of CO2 at the fast growing stage in spring. Nevertheless, in hot summer it had to survive the severe hot environment through strong respiration and storage of CO2 only in the early morning.  相似文献

The symbiotic association of endophyte fungus, Neotyphodium lolii, and ryegrass improves the ryegrass resistance to drought. This is shown by a 30 % increase in the number of suckers in infected plants (E+), compared to plants lacking endophyte (E−), and by a higher water potential in the E+ than E− plants. The E+ plants have higher stomatal conductance (g s), transpiration rate, net photosynthetic rate (P N), and photorespiratory electron transport rate than the E− plants. The maximal photochemical efficiency (Fv/Fm) and the actual photochemical efficiency (ΦPS2) are not affected by the endophyte fungus. The increase in P N of the E+ plants subjected to water stress was independent from internal CO2 concentration. An increased P N was observed in E+ plants also in optimal water supply. Hence the drought resistance of E+ plants results in increased g s, P N, and photorespiratory electron transport rate. Photosynthetic induction responses to a sudden increase in photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) from lower background PPFD (0, 25, 50, and 100 mol m–2 s–1) to 1 000 mol m–2 s–1 were measured in leaves of Fagus crenata, Acer rufinerve Siebold & Zucc., and Viburnum furcatum growing in a gap and understory of a F. crenata forest in the Naeba mountains. In the gap, A. rufinerve exhibited more than 1.2-fold higher maximum net photosynthetic rate (P Nmax) than F. crenata and V. furcatum. Meanwhile, in the understory F. crenata exhibited the highest P Nmax among the three species. The photosynthetic induction period required to reach P Nmax was 3–41 min. The photosynthetic responses to increase in PPFD depended on the background PPFD before increase in PPFD. The induction period required to reach P Nmax was 2.5–6.5-fold longer when PPFD increased from darkness than when PPFD increased from 100 mol m–2 s–1. The induction period was correlated with initial P N and stomatal conductance (g s) relative to maximum values before increase in PPFD. The relationship was similar between the gap and the understory. As the background PPFD increased, the initial P N and g s increased, indicating that the degrees of biochemical and stomata limitations to dynamic photosynthetic performance decreased. Therefore, photosynthetic induction responses to increase in PPFD became faster with the increasing background PPFD. The differences in time required to reach induction between species, as well as between gap and understory, were mainly due to the varying of relative initial induction states in P N and g s at the same background PPFD.  相似文献

A coupled model of stomatal conductance and photosynthesis for winter wheat   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5

The model couples stomatal conductance (g s) and net photosynthetic rate (P N) describing not only part of the curve up to and including saturation irradiance (I max), but also the range above the saturation irradiance. Maximum stomatal conductance (g smax) and I max can be calculated by the coupled model. For winter wheat (Triticum aestivum) the fitted results showed that maximum P N (P max) at 600 μmol mol−1 was more than at 350 μmol mol−1 under the same leaf temperature, which can not be explained by the stomatal closure at high CO2 concentration because g smax at 600 μmol mol−1 was less than at 350 μmol mol−1. The irradiance-response curves for winter wheat had similar tendency, e.g. at 25 °C and 350 μmol mol−1 both P N and g s almost synchronously reached the maximum values at about 1 600 μmol m−2 s−1. At 25 °C and 600 μmol mol−1 the I max corresponding to P max and g smax was 2 080 and 1 575 μmol m−2 s−1, respectively.  相似文献

The relation between oxygen evolution rate (OER) and quantum yield of photochemical reactions in photosystem 2 (ΦPS2) was examined in lichen symbiotic alga Trebouxia erici Ahmadjian (strain UTEX 911) exposed to different irradiances and osmotic stress (2 M sucrose for 60 h). Linear relationship was found between OER and ΦPS2 in control cell suspension within irradiance range of 0 – 500 μmol m−2 s−1. Under osmotic stress, OER and ΦPS2 were significantly reduced. Relation between OER and ΦPS2 was curvilinear due to strong osmotically-induced inhibition of OER at high irradiance. The highest used irradiance (500 μmol m−2 s−1) was photoinhibitory for osmotically-stressed T. erici because non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) increased substantially. Energy-dependent quenching represented major part of NPQ increase. Osmotic stress led also to the reduction of capacity of photochemical processes in PS 2 (FV/FM) and increase in F0/FM. These changes indicated negative effects of osmoticum on structure and function of photosynthetic apparatus.  相似文献

Diurnal and seasonal trends in net photosynthetic rate (P N), stomatal conductance (g), transpiration rate (E), vapour pressure deficit, temperature, photosynthetic photon flux density, and water use efficiency (WUE) were compared in a two-year-old Dalbergia sissoo and Hardwickia binata plantation. Mean daily maximum P N in D. sissoo ranged from 21.40±2.60 μmol m−2 s−1 in rainy season I to 13.21±2.64 μmol m−2 s−1 in summer whereas in H. binata it was 20.04±1.20 μmol m−2 s−1 in summer and 13.64±0.16 μmol m−2 s−1 in winter. There was a linear relationship between daily maximum P N and g s in D. sissoo but there was no strong linear relationship between P N and g s in H. binata. In D. sissoo, the reduction in g s led to a reduction in both P N and E enabling the maintenance of WUE during dry season thereby managing unfavourable environmental conditions efficiently whereas in H. binata, an increase in g s causes an increase of P N and E with a significant moderate WUE.  相似文献

This work aimed to evaluate if gas exchange and PSII photochemical activity in maize are affected by different irradiance levels during short-term exposure to elevated CO2. For this purpose gas exchange and chlorophyll a fluorescence were measured on maize plants grown at ambient CO2 concentration (control CO2) and exposed for 4 h to short-term treatments at 800 μmol(CO2) mol−1 (high CO2) at a photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) of either 1,000 μmol m−2 s−1 (control light) or 1,900 μmol m−2 s−1 (high light). At control light, high-CO2 leaves showed a significant decrease of net photosynthetic rate (P N) and a rise in the ratio of intercellular to ambient CO2 concentration (C i/C a) and water-use efficiency (WUE) compared to control CO2 leaves. No difference between CO2 concentrations for PSII effective photochemistry (ΦPSII), photochemical quenching (qp) and nonphotochemical quenching (NPQ) was detected. Under high light, high-CO2 leaves did not differ in P N, C i/C a, ΦPSII and NPQ, but showed an increase of WUE. These results suggest that at control light photosynthetic apparatus is negatively affected by high CO2 concentration in terms of carbon gain by limitations in photosynthetic dark reaction rather than in photochemistry. At high light, the elevated CO2 concentration did not promote an increase of photosynthesis and photochemistry but only an improvement of water balance due to increased WUE.  相似文献

Plant growth, contents of photosynthetic pigments, photosynthetic gas exchange, and chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence in soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr. cv. Heinong37] were investigated after it was inoculated with Sinorhizobium fredii USDA191 or treated with 5 mM (NH4)2SO4 (N5) and 30 mM (NH4)2SO4 (N30), respectively. In the plants following N5 fertilization, not only plant biomass, leaf area, and Chl content, but also net photosynthetic rate (P N), stomatal conductance (g s), carboxylation efficiency (CE), maximum photochemical efficiency (Fv/Fm) of photosystem 2 (PS2), and quantum yield of PS2 (ΦPS2) were markedly improved as compared with the control plants. There were also positive effects on plant growth and plant photosynthesis after rhizobia inoculation, but the effects were much less than those of N5 fertilization. For N30 plants there were no significant positive effects on plant growth and photosynthetic capacity. Plant biomass, P N, and g s were similar to those of N-limited (control) plants. ΦPS2 and photochemical quenching (qP) were obviously declined while content of carotenoids and non-photochemical quenching (qN) were significantly enhanced in N30 treated plants. This indicated that excess N supply may cause some negative effects on soybean plants.  相似文献

Variation in photosynthetic parameters was observed between eight contrasting cacao (Theobroma cacao) genotypes. Net photosynthetic rate (PN) ranged from 3.4 to 5.7 μmol(CO2) m−2 s−1 for the genotypes IMC 47 and SCA 6, respectively. Furthermore, genotypic differences were detected in quantum efficiency ranging from 0.020 to 0.043 μmol(CO2) μmol−1(photon) for UF 676 and AMAZ 15/15, respectively. Differences in PN were correlated with both stomatal conductance (gs) and leaf nitrogen per unit area. Some variation in water use efficiency was observed between genotypes, both intrinsic (PN/gs) and instantaneous (PN/transpiration rate). Both measures of water use efficiency were a negative function of specific leaf area. Evidence was found for a trade-off mechanism between cacao genotypes in photosynthesis and leaf structure. High photosynthetic rate, expressed on a mass basis was associated with smaller leaves. Furthermore, thinner leaves were compensated for by a higher nitrogen content per unit mass.  相似文献

Using CO2 gasometry, net photosynthetic (P N) and dark respiration rates (R D) were measured in leaves or traps of 12 terrestrial carnivorous plant species usually grown in the shade. Generally, mean maximum P N (60 nmol CO2 g−1(DM) s−1 or 2.7 μmol m−2 s−1) was low in comparison with that of vascular non-carnivorous plants but was slightly higher than that reported elsewhere for carnivorous plants. After light saturation, the facultatively heliophytic plants behaved as shade-adapted plants. Mean R D in leaves and traps of all species reached about 50% of maximum P N and represents the high photosynthetic (metabolic) cost of carnivory.  相似文献

Previously, we found a significant association between photosystem II efficiency (ΦPSII) and photochemical reflectance index (PRI) measured at predawn among different species at different elevations and throughout several seasons. However, this relationship has not been evaluated under varied levels of illumination. Here, we used the Taiwan species Pinus taiwanensis (a conifer distributed at 750–3,000 m a.s.l.), Stranvaesia niitakayamensis (an evergreen tree, 1,700–3,100 m) and two Miscanthus spp. (perennial C4 Gramineae, coastline–3,200 m) to elucidate the ΦPSII–PRI relationship. We studied six levels of photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) (0, 200, 400, 800, 1,200 and 2,000 μmol m−2 s−1) over several growth seasons at high (2,600 m a.s.l.) and low (800 m a.s.l.) elevation sites. In comparing the same species or genus, ΦPSII and PRI were closely correlated in darkness or under the same level of PPFD, with data obtained from different seasons and elevations pooled for regression analysis. Because both the intercept and slope of the ΦPSII–PRI equation showed a negative curvilinear correlation with PPFD, we could fit an empirical regression model, ΦPSII = c + d·ln(PPFD) + e·[ln(PPFD)]2 + f·PRI + g·PRI·ln(PPFD) + h·PRI·[ln(PPFD)]2, for multiple regression analysis. Using this model, we found a close correlation between the estimated and measured ΦPSII (r 2 = 0.842−0.937, P < 0.001) for all four species examined and for mango (Mangifera indica) measured under both artificial illumination and sunlight (data from Weng et al. 2010). This empirical regression model could simulate both seasonal and diurnal variations of leaf-scale photosynthetic efficiency at high and low elevations.  相似文献
