The karyotypes of 100 males and 100 females, each assembled by the trypsin banding method, are examined in a study designed to investigate sex differences among autosomes. It is shown that female autosomes are consistently longer than those of the males, with respect to both the short and long arm measurements. In addition, discriminant analysis is used to distinguish between the male and female karyotypes. We find that, using autosomal measurements alone, this can be done with a high probability of success.  相似文献

The chromosomes of the rare South American marsupial frogs Gastrotheca walkeri and G. ovifera were extensively reexamined with various banding techniques. The karyotypes of both species are distinguished by a new category of XY female symbol /XX male symbol female sex chromosomes. The unusual Y chromosomes are characterized by containing the least amount of constitutive heterochromatin in the karyotypes. This is in contrast to all previously known amphibian Y chromosomes and does not fit the evolutionary model of early XY differentiation in vertebrates. In male meiosis, the heteromorphic XY chromosomes of both species still exhibit the same pairing configurations as the autosomes. DNA flow cytometric measurements show the nuclear DNA amount of G. walkeri to be 10.90 pg. The significance of the XY/XX sex chromosomes of these marsupial frogs, the various classes of constitutive heterochromatin detected, and the data obtained from meiotic analyses are discussed in detail.  相似文献

Summary The karyotypes of females and males ofSphaerocarpos donnellii differ in that there is a large essentially heterochromatic X chromosome in the female (approx. 25 volume-% of the autosomes) and a small Y chromosome in the male (0.1–3 volume-% of the autosomes). DNA from females and males differ in buoyant densities in cesium chloride equilibrium gradients (1.7025 and 1.7035g cm-3, respectively) and in melting points (87.5 and 88.5°C in SSC). The differences are statistically significant. Base analyses revealed 2.5 Mol-% of the rare base 5-methyl cytosine. Upon reassociationSphaerocarpos DNA behaves kinetically in a heterogeneous manner. About 22% of the DNA is repetitive with an average kinetic complexity of 1.6×108 daltons. The kinetic complexity of the slow reassociating DNA fraction, considered to be of the single copy type, is 3.2×1010 daltons. No difference in the renaturation behavior between DNA of males and females could be detected with the techniques used. Our data thus indicate that X chromosomal DNA cannot contain large amounts of highly repeated nucleotide sequences and that it is slightly enriched in AT content compared to the autosomes.  相似文献

The aim of this study was the identification of the ancestral location of the nucleolus organizer region (NOR) in the Scarabaeoidea superfamily, and its evolutive trends in the karyotypes. For this purpose, the mitotic and meiotic chromosomes at pachynema of 82 species belonging to 4 families and 8 subfamilies, including 49 species without any published data, were examined after Giemsa staining, C-banding and NOR staining. It could be perceived that most karyotypes are composed of 18 nonacrocentric autosomes, an acrocentric X and a punctiform Y. NORs are frequently located on the X independent of its morphology. In contrast, autosomal NORs are frequently on the rare acrocentric short arms. Thus, it could be shown that the ancestral karyotype was very probably composed of 18 metacentric/submetacentric autosomes, an NOR carrier acrocentric X and a punctiform Y. The NOR translocation on autosomes parallels the passage to their acrocentric morphology. It is proposed that the frequent location of the NOR on the X of beetles, and possibly other insects, is made possible by their mode of dosage compensation of the X chromosome, consisting in the overexpression of the unique X of the males.  相似文献

The karyotypes of seven Ilybius species are described and illustrated. All except I. wasastjernae have a basic karyotype of 34 autosomes plus sex chromosomes which are X0 ( male symbol ), XX ( female symbol ), with the X chromosome among the largest in the nucleus. This karyotype appears to be the norm for Ilybius and supports the transfer of the species concerned from Agabus to Ilybius. I. wasastjernae has 36 autosomes and the X chromosome is the smallest in the nucleus and its karyotype is unlike any other known karyotype in either Ilybius or Agabus. In most of the species studied no intraspecific variation has been detected. Exceptions are I. chalconatus, where there is one inversion polymorphism in one of the autosomes, and I. montanus whose autosome number has been found to vary from 29 to 34. Such variation is highly unusual among Coleoptera. The variation results from fusion-fission polymorphisms involving three different pairs of autosomes. In each case the fusions may be homozygous, heterozygous or absent. All populations investigated were polymorphic for some of the fusions, but only one (La Salceda, Spain) included individuals lacking all fusions. The frequencies of fused and unfused chromosomes were analysed in three English populations. In only one case was there a departure from the values expected from the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, and this population also showed a significant difference from the other two. Meiosis in males heterozygous for fusions involves the production of trivalents in first division, but results in the production of abundant sperm, with no evidence of chromosomal abnormalities in second metaphase, or of degenerating cells as a result of failed meiosis. The three fusions sites are consistent in all the populations studied, and it is concluded that these fusions represent unique historical events rather than current chromosomal instability.  相似文献

Drosophila subobscura males were trapped in Tunis, and mated to different lab strains. The offspring from 15% of these wild Tunisian males consisted of more than 90% females. Chromosome analysis showed that these males had carried the A2+3+5+7 which was described as 'sex ratio' chromosome, endemic in North Africa and the Canary Islands. The mean female frequency in the total offspring of all trapped males was 61%. This percentage was stable for more than ten years. F1 females from the mating of wild Tunisian males to Küsnacht standard females were backcrossed to Küsnacht standard males. In the offspring of this back cross, A2+3+5+7-males were sterile. The fertility of A2+3+5+7-males could be restored in two ways: 1) When the Küsnacht standard autosomes were replaced by Tunisian autosomes, most of the A2+3+5+7-males were again fertile. The A2+3+5+7-chromosome seems to be incompatible with autosomes from a geographically distant region. 2) After exchanging autosomes between lines, in which A2+3+5+7-males were 100% sterile, fertility could be restored in 30% of the A2+3+5+7-males. All males carrying one specific A2+3+5+7 stayed sterile as well in combination with autosomes from different lines as with Tunisian autosomes. The Y-chromosome and the cytoplasm was the same in sterile and in fertile A2+3+5+7-males. Therefore the origin of the Y-chromosome and the cytoplasm could not play a major role in sterility. The percentage of fertile males varied for different Y-chromosomes. Thus the Y-chromosomes may have some influence on fertility in this study. The restored fertility of A2+3+5+7-males can be explained assuming complementation. Defects of autosomes, and perhaps of the Y-chromosomes, could differ from line to line. Genomic changes may have happened when the A2+3+5+7 was in the genome together with autosomes and Y-chromosomes from Swiss populations. The A-chromosome which prevented fertility in all combinations, is thought to be itself defective. In one cross the 'sex ratio' trait was modified. In the offspring of some males the male to female ratio was 1:1. The variable sex ratio in the offspring from different males may have been an effect of the autosomes. In short, the intraspecific hybrid sterility and modification of the 'sex ratio' trait in D. subobscura indicate that: a) an incompatibility possibly existed between the gene arrangement A2+3+5+7 from one population and autosomes respectively Y-chromosomes from a population isolated from the former. b) In addition unidentified genomic changes occurred, c) induced by the A2+3+5+7-chromosome. d) The sex chromosomes A and Y, and the autosomes were involved.  相似文献

本文以表面铺展——硝酸银染色技术,对家鸡的联会复合体(Syneptonemal Complex,SC)作亚显微结构分析。根据对10个精母细胞和10个卵母细胞SC的测量结果,绘制组型图。发现雌雄家鸡的常染色体的SC组型相同。在精母细胞中,性染色体(ZZ)的行为与常染色体相似。在卵母细胞中,性染色体ZW的长度不同,长轴为Z,短轴为W,两者之间只有部分配对,形成SC。从早粗线期到晚粗线期,由同源配对调整为非同源配对。另外,在一只雌鸡中,第一次观察到,有些细胞的常染色体能正常配对,而性染色体完全不配对的现象。  相似文献

C-banded karyotypes were studied in the males of seven ladybird species from the subfamily Coccinellinae, viz. Adonia variegata (Goeze), Tythaspis sedecimpunctata (L.), Coccinella septempunctata (L.), Calvia decemguttata (L.), Calvia quatuordecimguttata (L.), Propylea quatuordecimpunctata (L.), Phyllobora vigintiduopunctata (L.). All the species, with the exception of Tythaspis sedecimpunctata (L.), possess 2n = 20, n(male) = 9 + Xy(p). Tythaspis sedecimpunctata (L.), however, has 2n = 24, n(male) = 11+Xy. The examined karyotypes show only a paracentromeric position of constitutive heterochromatin in all autosomes and the sex chromosome X, while the y heterochromosome is dot-like and wholly euchromatic. Replication patterns of the X chromosomes and autosomes in D. melanogaster male and female larvae during the discontinuously labeled initial and end phases of DNA synthesis were compared. In female larvae X and autosomes behaved correspondingly during all the replication stages. In males, however, the X chromosome shows a differential replication behavior from that of the autosomes already during the discontinuously labeled initial stage.—In those nuclei of both sexes, in which the autosomes correspond in their initial replication patterns, significantly more labeled regions are to be found over the male X than over the female X. The complementary behavior during the end phases (Berendes, 1966), i.e. the reverse of that above, leads to an earlier completion of the replication cycle in most of the labeled regions of the male X chromosome. The differential replication revealed in the autoradiograms is interpreted as a consequence of the polytene structure in giant chromosomes.  相似文献

A “Spanish” goat female was bred to a Barbados sheep ram and gave birth to twin offspring, one of each sex. The Fl female was backcrossed to a Barbados ram and also gave birth to twins, one of each sex. The Fl female has goat-like characters and the coloration of the Barbados. Although the female Barbados is polled, the Fl female hybrid has goat-like horns. The Fl male was lost before assessments could be made. The Fl hybrid possesses a diploid chromosome number of 57 and a karyotype containing 3 unpaired metacentrics, 5 unpaired and 23 pairs of acrocentric autosomes. The male and female backcrosses have Barbados characters and coloration; however, the female has goat-like horns. The male has Barbados or sheep-like horns. The backcrosses have diploid chromosome numbers of 55 and karyotypes containing 1 unpaired and 2 pairs of metacentrics and 2 unpaired and 23 pairs of acrocentric autosomes. The sex chromosomes consist of a large acrocentric X and a small bi-armed Y in the male and 2 large acrocentric Xs in the female.  相似文献

Male hybrids of the cross D. azteca x D. athabasca are larger (hybrid giant males) than their parents, whereas hybrid females are of the same size as the parental species. Microspectrophotometric measurements have shown that the larval polytene salivary gland chromosomes of hybrid giant males undergo one more endoreplication than those of their sisters or parents. Replication patterns of the larval salivary gland chromosomes were compared after pulse labeling with 3H-thymidine and autoradiography. In females of either species as well as of hybrids X-chromosomes and autosomes are equally labeled, i.e. all chromosome arms replicate synchronously. In males, however, often fewer sites are labeled on the X-chromosome than on the autosomes. In addition, in a significant number of nuclei from D. athabasca males and also from hybrid giant males the converse can also be observed: i.e. more sites are labeled on the X-chromosome than on the autosomes. The modified labeling patterns are interpreted as an indication of a time-shift in the replication of hemizygous X-chromosomes in males, in relation to the autosomes.  相似文献

本次首次报告棕色田鼠(Microtus mandarinus)的核型,核型公式为2n=50=2(M,T) 2SM 44T XX(M,SM),XY(SM,ST),发现第一对常染色体及X性染色体存在多态现象,在所研究的15只雌性个体中有7只雌性个体的细胞只有1条X性染色体,性染色体组成为XO型,核型公式为2n=49=2(M,ST) 2SM 44T+XO,。其中X性染色体不同于雄性中的X(SM),为M类型,本文提出的综色田鼠3种核型与Brown等人(1964)提出的Microtus oregoni的3种核型(XO,YO,XY)有异,本文还阐述了染色体多态产生的机制和探讨了XO型个体发生的机理及其繁殖。  相似文献

Immunostaining of chromosomes shows that the male-specific lethal (MSL) proteins are associated with all female chromosomes at a low level but are sequestered to the X chromosome in males. Histone-4 Lys-16 acetylation follows a similar pattern in normal males and females, being higher on the X and lower on the autosomes in males than in females. However, the staining pattern of acetylation and the mof gene product, a putative histone acetylase, in msl mutant males returns to a uniform genome-wide distribution as found in females. Gene expression on the autosomes correlates with the level of histone-4 acetylation. With minor exceptions, the expression levels of X-linked genes are maintained with either an increase or decrease of acetylation, suggesting that the MSL complex renders gene activity unresponsive to H4Lys16 acetylation. Evidence was also found for the presence of nucleation sites for association of the MSL proteins with the X chromosome rather than individual gene binding sequences. We suggest that sequestration of the MSL proteins occurs in males to nullify on the autosomes and maintain on the X, an inverse effect produced by negatively acting dosage-dependent regulatory genes as a consequence of the evolution of the X/Y sex chromosomal system.  相似文献

Two species of Odontocheila, O. confusa and O. nodicornis, from the Neotropical Region were studied regarding their karyotypes, localisation and activity of ribosomal genes and C-banding. The species, although belonging to the same genus, have quite distinct karyotypes. O. confusa has 10 pairs of autosomes and a single sex chromosome mechanism of the XY/XX type, thus a diploid value of 2n = 22 in males and females. One aneuploid male with a diploid number of 2n = 20 and one male with three B chromosomes were found in a total of eight males studied. O. nodicornis has 17 autosomal pairs and also a single chromosome system but of the X0/XX type, thus a diploid value of 2n = 35 in males and 2n = 36 in females. Fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) revealed the presence of rDNA clusters in two autosomes in both species in mitotic and meiotic figures. Silver staining of male interphase nuclei confirmed the FISH results and showed that all rDNA genes were active. C-banding analysis revealed the presence of constitutive heterochromatin in the centromeres of all chromosomes in the two species plus two pairs in O. nodicornis with terminal positive C-bands. These results are discussed from the cytogenetic and evolutionary point of view.  相似文献

The study reports on chromosomes in several populations of social voles from south-eastern Europe and the Middle East. The standard karyotypes of individuals of Microtus hartingi and Microtus guentheri originating from both south-eastern Europe and Asia Minor comprised 54 mostly acrocentric chromosomes. However, variation between populations was found in the amount and distribution of C-heterochromatin in certain autosomes and the sex chromosomes. Furthermore, a specific pattern of argyrophilic nucleolar organizer region distribution was recorded in different geographic populations. In a population from Asia Minor, a heterozygous centric fusion of two autosomes was found. The G-banded karyotypes of M. guentheri and Microtus socialis were compared, and tandem fusions of autosomes were suggested as possible mechanism of the divergence. The karyotypes of the nine currently recognized species of social voles are reviewed, and implications of chromosomal data for systematics are evaluated.  相似文献

为弄清天牛的核型特征, 补充我国天牛染色体分类特征和天牛细胞分类学的基础研究空缺, 本文以4种沟胫天牛亚科天牛为研究对象, 选取天牛的分裂旺盛组织精巢(卵巢)和中肠, 在不同的条件下进行天牛染色体玻片的制备和观察。结果显示: 4种天牛染色体数目均为 2n = 20, 性别决定机制为Xyp。其中, 云斑白条天牛Batocera lineolata的核型公式: 4L+5M+Xyp, 大型染色体4对, 中型染色体5对, 性染色体为小型; 榉白背粉天牛Olenecamptus cretaceus marginatus、 中华八星粉天牛Olenecamptus octopustulatus chinensis(粉天牛属)和桑天牛Apriona germari的核型公式均为: 5L+4M+Xyp, 大型染色体5对, 中型染色体4对, 性染色体为中型。粉天牛属的榉白背粉天牛和中华八星粉天牛的核型指数非常相近; 桑天牛的染色体公式虽然与粉天牛属相同, 但长度和着丝粒位置明显不同。  相似文献

When male mice from inbred PHH (sex ratio .535) and PHL (.435) are mated to females of various inbred lines, the sex ratio follows the male parent. The sex ratios from litters sired by reciprocal cross F1 males (letting A represent a set of autosomes) are 0.510 from AH/AL, XL/YH and 0.469 from AH/AL, XH/YL. The difference is statistically significant but only half the difference between pure strains. The paternal effect, presumably due to the Y, persists in progeny of the two kinds of F2 males. In backcrosses to the female parent, resulting finally in AH/AH, XH/YL and AL/AL, XL/YH, and in outcrosses, the effect of the Y chromosome does not persist, indicating that neither the Y alone, nor the autosomes alone, will cause the sex ratio to depart significantly from equality of sexes. When pairs of males in all possible combinations were presented with C57BL/6 females mating success gave the following ranking: AH-YL, AL-YL, AH-YH, AL-YH. The combination of autosomes from PHH and Y-chromosome from PHL seems to confer the greatest competitive advantage.  相似文献
