On citrus in Zimbabwe, Swaziland and South Africa, predacious mites of the subfamily Amblyseiinae are more common and found in greater numbers than phytoseiids of the subfamily Phytosciinae. The author's survey and other collection data indicated that within the Amblyseiinae the genus Euseius Wainstein is the most widely distributed. Seven Euseius spp. have been recorded on citrus in the above countries but not more than one species has been found at any particular site and time. E. citri (Van der Merwe and Ryke) has the broadest geographical distribution and is capable of suppressing population levels of the citrus thrips Scirtothrips aurantii Faure. However, it is not as effective a biocontrol agent as E. addoensis (Van der Merwe and Ryke) which occurs in higher numbers further south. An orchard comparison of the non-target effects of thripicides showed that E. citri was more susceptible to sabadilla alkaloids (0.0024% AI) plus sugar (0.96%) than to tartar emetic (0.398% AI) plus sugar (0.4%). The author's survey provides the first records of E. orygmus (Ueckermann and Loots) and E. tutsi (Pritchard and Baker) on citrus in Zimbabwe. Typhlodromalus Muma spp. were not widely distributed but where they did occur they were often abundant and sometimes coexisted with Euseius spp. Circumstantial evidence indicated that Typhlodromalus spp. may be effective thrips predators. The combination of Euseius and Typhlodromalus spp. may provide more effective biological control of citrus thrips than either species alone. Amblydromella Muma spp. were the only representatives of the subfamily Phytoseiinac currently found on citrus and they occurred only in the Transvaal and Natal provinces of South Africa. The possibility that Amblydromella spp. compete with Amblyseiinae is discussed.  相似文献

Seven citrus orchards on reduced- to no-pesticide spray programs were sampled for predacious mites in the family Phytoseiidae (Acari: Mesostigmata) in central and south central Florida. Inner and outer canopy leaves, open flowers, fruit, twigs, and trunk scrapings were sampled monthly between September 1994 and January 1996. Vines and ground cover plants were sampled monthly between September 1994 and January 1996 in five of these orchards. The two remaining orchards were on full herbicide programs and ground cover plants were absent. Thirty-three species of phytoseiid mites were identified from 35,405 specimens collected within citrus tree canopies within the seven citrus orchards, and 8,779 specimens from vines and ground cover plants within five of the seven orchards. The six most abundant phytoseiid species found within citrus tree canopies were: Euseius mesembrinus (Dean) (20,948), Typhlodromalus peregrinus (Muma) (8,628), Iphiseiodes quadripilis (Banks) (2,632), Typhlodromips dentilis (De Leon) (592), Typhlodromina subtropica Muma and Denmark (519), and Galendromus helveolus (Chant) (315). The six most abundant species found on vines or ground cover plants were: T. peregrinus (6,608), E. mesembrinus (788), T. dentilis (451), I. quadripilis (203), T. subtropica (90), and Proprioseiopsis asetus (Chant) (48). The remaining phytoseiids included: Amblyseius aerialis (Muma), A. herbicolus (Chant), A. largoensis (Chant), A. multidentatus (Chant), A. sp. near multidentatus, A. obtusus (Koch), Chelaseius vicinus (Muma), Euseius hibisci Chant, Galendromus gratus (Chant), Metaseiulus mcgregori (Chant), Neoseiulus mumai (Denmark), N. vagus (Denmark), Phytoscutus sexpilis (Muma), Phytoseiulus macropilis (Banks), Proprioseiopsis detritus (Muma), P. dorsatus (Muma), P. macrosetae (Banks), P. rotundus (Muma), P. solens (De Leon), Typhlodromips deleoni (Muma), T. dillus (De Leon), T. dimidiatus (De Leon), T. mastus Denmark and Muma, T. simplicissimus (De Leon), and T. sp. near tunus, and Typhlodromus transvaalensis (Nesbitt). Eighty-two ground cover plants or vines were sampled within the five orchards and one or more phytoseiids were collected from 71 of these plants. Five ground cover plants with the highest numbers of phytoseiids included: Bidens alba (L.) DC (1,420 mites within 13 species), Solanum americanum L. (1,355 mites within 8 species), Amaranthus spinosus L. (1,137 mites within 11 species), Gnaphalium pensylvanicum Willd. (844 mites within 8 species) and Richardia brasiliensis (Meg.) Phytoseiid mites were sampled in a grapefruit orchard at various times of the day to study their diurnal and seasonal distributions in the tree canopy. Samples were collected on 14, 20 and 28 October 1999 at 2 h intervals from 0600 to 2200 h. Similar samples were collected in a grapefruit orchard at 3 h intervals from 0600 to 2100 h on 9 and 16 March and on 17 and 24 August 2000 for phytoseiid mites. No differences in numbers of phytoseiid motiles were observed among the hours sampled in any of the three months. However, significant differences were observed in the number of phytoseiids per leaf based on location within the tree (eastern, western sides of the canopy or interior). Interior leaves collected in March and August 2000 had higher numbers of phytoseiids than exterior leaves taken from either the eastern or western sides of the tree canopy. Phytoseiids were more abundant in the March 2000 samples (mean = 1.10 phytoseiids/leaf) than in either October 1999 or August 2000 samples (mean = 0.16 and 0.19 phytoseiids/leaf, respectively). Prevalent phytoseiid species were Typhlodromalus peregrinus (Muma) (42.1%) and Iphiseiodes quadripilis (Banks) (50.4%) in October 1999, Typhlodromalus peregrinus (Muma) (76.2%) in March 2000, and Euseius mesembrinus (Dean) (54%) in August 2000.  相似文献

Chromosome studies were made on embryonic tissues of eggs of 15 species of predaceous mites of the family Phytoseiidae belonging to six genera: Amblyseius Berlese, Seiulus Berlese, Typhlodromus Scheuten, Phytoseiulus Evans, Phytoseius Ribaga and Paragigagnathus Amitai et Grinberg. In 14 species, the chromosome numbers n=4, 2n=8 were found. In cytological studies of post-embryonic stages based on these results, the haplo-diploid (arrhenotokous) mechanism was established. In the species Amblyseius deleoni Muma et Denmark, which was found to be thelytokous, only metaphases with 8 chromosomes were found.  相似文献

Twenty-three genera of Amaranthaceae occur in the New World. Two endemic genera occur in the Hawaiian Islands. Among the genera of the subfamily Amaranthoideae, Celosia, Cyathula and Achyranthes have their main distributions in the Old World; the two last-named genera are represented in the Americas only by widespread weeds. All the New World genera of the subfamily Gomphrenoideae are mainly or entirely restricted to this region. Characters of androecium and gynoecium are fundamental in the recognition of genera within the family. Androecia of different genera may be structurally and phylogenetically more similar than would appear from a cursory examination. It is suggested that the type of staminal tubes found in Pseudogomphrena and Froelichia can be derived from that in Alternanthera and Froelichiella by reduction of filament length and a fusion of pseudostaminodia with the filaments. The staminal tube in Gomphrena could result from a further decrease in distance between pseudostaminodia of the Pseudogomphrena type, and a deeper forking of the pseudostaminodia; each so-called apical filament lobe in Gomphrena would then be homologous with half a pseudostaminodium in Pseudogomphrena. Much of the variation in the androecia of these and other genera, as well as within genera such as Pfaffia, can be explained as the combined results of coalescence and splitting-up tendencies. Splitting up of staminal tubes may not necessarily take place along the borders of phylogenetically original filaments and pseudostaminodia. The Amaranthus-type of pollen is found in the majority of genera of the subfamily Amaranthoideae, but also in the Chenopodiaceae. A group of genera within the subfamily Gomphrenoideae also has pollen very similar to, or identical with, this type. Most genera of the subfamily Gomphrenoideae have pollen of the Gomphrena-type. Pseudoplantago has unilocular (at anthesis) anthers, a characteristic of the subfamily Gomphrenoideae, but floral structure as well as pollen morphology connect the genus to a group of genera within the Amaranthoideae, subtribe Achyranthinae. The combination of subcuboidal shape and opercula with radially arranged hooked protuberances, makes the pollen of Pseudoplantago unique among the angiosperms studied so far. Floral morphology and palynological characteristics indicate a close relationship between Pfaffia and Alternanthera. Both genera, as currently accepted, are relatively homogeneous from pollen morphological points of view. There are no correlations between pollen morphology and the variation in the androecium in Pfaffia, nor would pollen structure support recognition of Hebanthe as a distinct genus. Woehleria and Irenella may be derived from, or be of the same origin as, Dicraurus and Iresine. All four genera are placed in the subfamily Gomphrenoideae because of the bisporangiate anthers, but their pollen structure is very close to, or identical with, that of the Amaranthus-type. Xyloglucan endotransglycosylase/hydrolases (XTHs) are believed to modify the cell wall structure by cleaving a xyloglucan polymer and transferring the newly generated, potentially reducing, terminal to another xyloglucan. We report here the detailed analysis of 37 Populus trichocarpa XTH genes/proteins in their divergence in both the coding and 5′ promoter regions. Our results show that the Populus XTH genes have experienced whole-genome and local duplications and pre- and post-speciation divergence. Genome-wide and segmental duplications seem to be dominant in subfamily I and III, while tandem duplication seems to be the major mechanism for the subfamily II expansion, which also has higher average ratios of K a/K s compared to those in subfamily I and III. There was a general lack of organ-specific gene expression. In contrast, the expression patterns in subfamily II varied in response to various hormone treatments, with II-A being up-regulated and II-B down-regulated after 2 h of hormone treatment. Expression for this subfamily was verified using the 1.5-kb PtXTH22 promoter that was fused with the GUS reporter gene and transformed into Arabidopsis. The PtXTH22 promoter contains auxin response element, ethylene insensitive 3-like factors, and brassinosteroid response cis-elements. Histochemical GUS staining of transgenic Arabidopsis seedlings confirmed that the PtXTH22 promoter was up-regulated by several hormones.  相似文献

 At least 32 mostly single-member subfamilies of T-cell receptor alpha variable (TCRAV) genes have been described in humans. The AV1 subfamily is the largest, estimated by hybridization to contain as many as five members. However, a search of nucleotide sequence databases reveals a much greater number of unique sequences corresponding to this subfamily. In order to resolve this discrepancy between hybridization and nucleotide sequencing data, and to better understand the nature of variability among variable genes within a large subfamily, a genomic characterization of the AV1 subfamily in humans was carried out. Total genomic DNA, as well as isolated genomic clones spanning the TCRA region were screened for members of the AV1 subfamily by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and nucleotide sequencing as well as by hybridization. A total of eight AV1 genes were identified and their nucleotide sequences were determined. Three of the sequences represent new genes. Based on structural features and the results of PCR screening of cDNA, none of these new genes appear to be functional. Several additional previously reported AV1 sequences were determined to represent alleles of AV1 genes, and simple PCR restriction digest assays were established for their detection. Use of each of the identified AV1 genes as hybridization probes failed to reveal any additional hybridizing bands. Populations of the phytoseiid predator Amblyseius(=Neoseiulus) idaeus (Denmark & Muma) from northeastern Brazil, have been successfully introduced into Benin, West Africa, as part of a classical biological control campaign to control the exotic cassava green mite Mononychellus tanajoa (Bondar). Monthly follow‐up surveys revealed the presence of A. idaeus in most release sites. Some populations have persisted for at least 18 months, including two cycles of potentially limiting wet and dry season conditions. In some sites A. idaeus has been the numerically dominant phytoseiid predator on cassava Manihot esculenta, where it is associated with the tetranychids M. tanajoa and Oligonychus gossypii Zacher. During periods of low M. tanajoa densities A. idaeus disappeared from cassava, but were found on weeds with O. gossypii until prey densities on cassava increased.  相似文献

 T-cell receptors (Tcrs) of higher organisms play a key role in the specific recognition of self and non-self molecules in the immune system. The large number of Tcr variable (V) genes have been organized into V gene subfamilies according to their sequence similarity at the nucleotide and amino acid level. We cloned and characterized four new members of the Tcra-V22 gene subfamily at the genomic level using a simple and sensitive technique that can rapidly clone members of any multi-member gene family. Sequence analysis reveals that the four Tcra-V22 gene subfamily members have more than 98% sequence similarity in their coding regions, at the nucleotide and amino acid levels. However, the intron between the leader and the coding region varies up to 7% between members of the Tcra-V22 gene subfamily. Comparison of the multi-member Tcra-V22 gene subfamily with other multi-member Tcra-V gene subfamilies (V2, V8, and V11), shows that Tcra-V22 is unique in that it has multiple members with nearly identical amino acid sequence and which are not inherently pseudogenes. Sequence similarity analysis of the Tcra-V22 subfamily with the prototypes of all other Tcra-V subfamilies revealed that the Tcra-V22 subfamily has the closest sequence similarity to that of Tcra-V18 (77% at the nucleotide level and 71% at the amino acid level). The evolutionary history of the bovid subfamily Antilopinae is unclear. Traditionally, this subfamily is subdivided into two tribes: Neotragini (dwarf antelopes) and Antilopini (gazelles and their relatives). Here, we report new sequences for the 12S and 16S rRNA genes in the enigmatic antilopine taxa Procapra gutturosa and Saiga tatarica and analyze the phylogenetic relationships of these taxa relative to other antilopines. Our study demonstrates the close affinity of the saiga antelope to Gazella despite the conventional systematic allocation of Saiga to the Caprinae subfamily. The second member of the Saigini tribe, Pantholops hodgsoni (Tibetan gazelle), falls within Caprinae. In all of our analyses, Procapra gutturosa occupied a basal position in the Antilopinae clade or was a sister-group to the dwarf antelope Madoqua. This suggests early separation of Procapra from other antelopes.  相似文献

A survey was conducted to identify possible alternative plant habitats of the most common phytoseiid predators associated with the cassava green mite, Mononychellus tanajoa (Bondar), in their native environment in northeast Brazil. Thirty-two phytoseiid species were collected, including Amblyseius aripo (DeLeon), Amblyseius idaeus (Denmark and Muma) and Amblyseius limonicus Garman and McGregor s.l., the three predators previously shown as the most common on cassava. In increasing order, A. idaeus, Phytoseius guianensis DeLeon and A. aripo were the most common phytoseiids collected on the plant habitats examined. A. limonicus s.l. was one of the least common phytoseiids on plants other than cassava. Altermative plant habitats seem important in harboring A. aripo and A. idaeus, but not A. limonicus s.l..  相似文献

This article is a review of the subfamily Desmodorinae (Nematoda, Desmodoroidea) and two related genera within this subfamily, Croconema Cobb, 1920 and Pseudochromadora Daday, 1899 with keys to genus or species level, genus diagnoses and lists of valid species. An emended diagnosis of, and discussion on, Sibayinema Swart & Heyns, 1991, is presented. Three new species are described: Croconema floriani sp.n. from the coast of Kenya, Pseudochromadora galeata sp.n. and P. securis sp.n. from the coast of Australia.  相似文献

The Mustelidae is a diverse family of carnivores which includes weasels, polecats, mink, tayra, martens, otters, badgers and, according to some authors, skunks. Evolutionary relationships within the family are under debate at a number of different taxonomic levels, and incongruencies between molecular and morphological results are important. We analysed a total of 241 cytochrome b (cyt b) gene sequences and 33 sequences of a complex repetitive flanking region from 33 different species to compile an extensive molecular phylogeny for the Mustelidae. We analysed these sequences and constructed phylogenetic trees using Bayesian and neighbor‐joining methods that are evaluated to propose changes to the taxonomy of the family. The peripheral position of skunks in phylogenetic trees based on both loci suggests that they should be considered a separate family, Mephitidae. The subfamily Melinae is the basal group within the Mustelidae and trees based on the cyt b gene suggest that the American badger, Taxidea taxus, should be considered a separate monotypic subfamily, Taxidiinae. Otters classified within the genera Lutra, Amblonyx and Aonyx are grouped within the same clade in cyt b and combined partial cyt b and flanking region trees and show reduced levels of inter specific divergence, suggesting that they could be classified together under a single genus, Lutra. The Bayesian tree based on combined data from both loci supports the idea that subfamily Mustelinae is paraphyletic, as otters (subfamily Lutrinae) are included in this subfamily. Low levels of genetic divergence among European polecat, Mustela putorius, steppe polecat, Mustela eversmannii, and European mink, Mustela lutreola, suggest that these species could be considered subspecies within a single species, Mustela putorius. Our results are consistent with a rapid diversification of mustelid lineages in six different radiation episodes identified since the Early Eocene, the oldest events being the separation of subfamilies and the split of marten (Martes, Gulo) and weasel (Mustela) lineages in the Early Middle Miocene. The separation of New World from Old World lineages and the split of the remaining genera are estimated to have occurred in Late Miocene. The most recent events have been the differentiation of species within genera and this probably occurred in four radiation episodes at the end of Late Miocene, Early Pliocene, Late Pliocene and Pleistocene epochs.  相似文献

The PV subfamily of Alu repeats in human DNA is largely composed of recently inserted members. Here we document additional members of the PV subfamily that are found in chimpanzee but not in the orthologous loci of human and gorilla, confirming the relatively recent and independent expansion of this Alu subfamily in the chimpanzee lineage. As further evidence for the youth of this Alu subfamily, one PV Alu repeat is specific to Pan troglodytes, whereas others are present in Pan paniscus as well. The A-rich tails of these Alu repeats have different lengths in Pan paniscus and Pan troglodytes. The dimorphisms caused by the presence and absence of PV Alu repeats and the length polymorphisms attributed to their A-rich tails should provide valuable genetic markers for molecular-based studies of chimpanzee relationships. 为探讨瑞香科沉香亚科的分类学地位,结合其他亚科植物的化学成分类型,对从沉香属植物分离到的各类化学成分进行了综述。从二萜和黄酮(烷)的成分类型判断,沉香亚科的进化地位低于瑞香亚科;从三萜成分类型来看,其地位又比Gonystyloideae亚科稍高;同时2-(2-苯乙基)色酮类和二苯基甲酮类成分为沉香属甚至沉香亚科的特征性成分。因此,沉香亚科是瑞香科中进化程度相对较低的类群,处于瑞香亚科和Gonystyloideae亚科之间。  相似文献

Karyotypes were determined on 27 lemurs from six species of what has been called the “subfamily” of Cheirogaleinae : Microcebus murinus murinus (2), M. murinus rufus (2), M. coquereli (5), Phaner furcifer (6), Cheirogaleus medius (9), and C. major (3). The cytogenetic study of these animals reveals that this “subfamily” contains in fact two groups, (a) — Microcebus and Cheirogaleus, and (b) — Phaner. The karyotype of the first two genera has a fundamental number (FN) equal to 66 and the karyotype of the third genus has an FN equal to 62. This result and the fact that Phaner has a particular scent-marking gland, knuckle pads, and finger prints markedly different from those of other genera agree with the view that this animal belongs to a special subfamily, Phanerinae, while the two other genera constitute the subfamily of Cheirogaleinae. These two subfamilies constitute the family of Cheirogaleidae.  相似文献
