Unanesthetized rabbits exposed to 12.5-cm microwaves at a field intensity of 40 mW/cm2 in the region of the head showed an increase in the number of slow waves and spindle-shaped firings in the EEG and a change in the discharge frequency of neurons in the visual cortex in 41-52% of the cases. An enhancement of the evoked response of visual cortex neurons to light was observed in 61% of the cases and a facilitation of the driving response in 80% of all cases. It is concluded that the evoked response is a more sensitive indicator of the microwave effect than background activity. The effects of the fields were most distinctly observed with the driving response.  相似文献

Modes of neuronal migration in the developing cerebral cortex   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
The conventional scheme of cortical formation shows that postmitotic neurons migrate away from the germinal ventricular zone to their positions in the developing cortex, guided by the processes of radial glial cells. However, recent studies indicate that different neuronal types adopt distinct modes of migration in the developing cortex. Here, we review evidence for two modes of radial movement: somal translocation, which is adopted by the early-generated neurons; and glia-guided locomotion, which is used predominantly by pyramidal cells. Cortical interneurons, which originate in the ventral telencephalon, use a third mode of migration. They migrate tangentially into the cortex, then seek the ventricular zone before moving radially to take up their positions in the cortical anlage.  相似文献

A suspension of 10(7) melanoma cells, submitted to microwave hyperthermia (2,450 MHz, 20 minutes, 44 degrees C) leads to a partial protection in mice inoculated 26 days afterwards with a suspension of 10(7) active cells of B16 melanoma (95% vitality). The period of 26 days between the two injections corresponds to the moment where the sera antibodies have an highest level. The kinetics of the primary response of the humoral immunity shows that B16 melanoma proliferation and number of deads can be related to an hypogammaglobulinemia.  相似文献

Six-hundred-and-one male Long-Evans rats were used to study the effect of microwaves on adrenocortical secretion. Power density ranged from 0.1 to 55 mW/cm2 (SAR 0.02 to 11 W/kg). The microwave signal was 2.45 GHz amplitude modulated at 120 Hz. Serum corticosterone (CS) concentration was used as an index of adrenocortical function. Ten different exposure protocols were used to identify confounding factors influencing the sensitivity of adrenal cortex to microwave exposure. Increases in CS concentration were proportional to power density or colonic temperature and inversely proportional to the baseline CS. Increased CS concentration was never observed without increased colonic temperature and was not persistent 24 h after exposure. Acclimation (reduction in magnitude of response) could be noted after the tenth exposure. Facilitated heat loss attenuated the magnitude of CS increases by limiting the degree of hyperthermia. Ethanol enhanced the hyperthermic response and desensitized the adrenal response to microwave hyperthermia by increased baseline CS. Ether stimulated adrenal secretion irrespective of previous microwave exposure or adrenal stimulation induced by microwaves. Minor inhibition was also noted occasionally as decreased CS concentration at lower intensity (less than 20 mW/cm2) and decreased postexposure urinary CS excretion at 40 mW/cm2. Adrenal stimulation required minimally a 20 mW/cm2 (4 W/kg) or 0.7 degrees C increase in colonic temperature. An SAR lower than 4 W/kg may stimulate adrenal secretion by potentiating the hyperthermic effect if the ambient temperature is well above 24 degrees C.  相似文献

Whole-body exposure of guinea pigs to microwaves of 60 mW/cm2 for 10 min causes quantitative changes in glial population of outer geniculate bodies and visual cortex that are manifested by the enlarged perineuronal glia, an increased glioneuronal index, and a relatively stable perivascular glia. The dynamics of the changes observed indicates higher reactivity and repair capacity of the glioneuronal complex of outer geniculate bodies.  相似文献

Recent studies of the lineages and developmental potential of cortical neurons show that cell fates are progressively restricted during cerebral cortical development. Cell lineage experiments suggest that individual cortical precursors are multipotent, as their progeny can end up in different cortical areas, and in different layers within an area. Transplantation studies have shown that young neurons are committed very early on to adopting a given laminar position, in a manner correlated with their birth date in the ventricular zone. Neurons in different neocortical areas, however, retain a functional and anatomical equipotentiality well into cortical development, suggesting that positional cues determine a cell's area-specific identity.  相似文献

In the experiments on non-anesthetised, flaxedilimmobilized rats it has been shown that the injection of leucin-enkephalin (150 micrograms) into the lateral ventricle of the rat brain induces different changes in the activity of 21 test neurons of the sensomotor zone of the brain cortex. Spike discharges of 5 neurons decreased, while those of 11 neurons increased. Naloxone (2 mg/kg, i. v.) completely prevented both inhibiting and activating effects of leucin-enkephalin after repeated injections of this pentapeptide. The effect of various metal ions on neuronal membrane fluidity was examined using 2-(14-carboxypropyl)-2-ethyl-4,4-dimethyl-3-oxazolidinyloxy, which has been used for the examination of membrane fluidity in hydrophobic areas by electron spin resonance spectrometry. Potassium, cobalt, calcium, magnesium, nickel, copper, ferric, and aluminium ions decreased the membrane fluidity while ferrous ions increased it at each high concentration. Sodium and zinc ions had no effect. Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid decreased membrane fluidity at high concentrations. Nicardipine lowered membrane fluidity and flunarizine elevated it at each high concentration. There was no change in membrane fluidity by other calcium antagonists, nimodipine and nifedipine.  相似文献

The pulse flows of populations of sensomotor cortical neurons are studied in unanesthetized non-immobilized rabbits before, during, and after 1-min exposure to microwave electromagnetic irradiation (wavelength 37.5 cm, power density 0.2–0.3, 0.4, 0.5, and 40 mW/cm2) by analyzing the burst activity detected at time thresholds of 5, 10, and 20 ms. These exposures change the number of spike bursts. The changes in pulse flows are recorded both during irradiation and during the first minute after its cessation. The directions of shifts and their dynamics are determined by both the irradiation intensity and the types of bursts themselves.  相似文献

The effects of microwave irradiation at two different frequencies (1.28 and 5.62 GHz) on observing-behavior of rodents were investigated. During daily irradiation, eight male hooded rats performed on a two-lever task; depression of one lever produced one of two different tones and the other lever produced food when depressed in the presence of the appropriate tone. At 5.62 GHz, the observing-response rate was not consistently affected until the power density approximated 26 mW/cm2 at 1.28 GHz, the observing-response rate of all rats was consistently affected at a power density of 15 mW/cm2. The respective whole-body specific absorption rates (SARs) were 4.94 and 3.75 W/Kg. Measurements of localized SAR in a rat-shaped model of simulated muscle tissue revealed marked differences in the absorption pattern between the two frequencies. The localized SAR in the model's head at 1.28 GHz was higher on the side distal to the source of radiation. At 5.62 GHz the localized SAR in the head was higher on the proximal side. It is concluded that the rat's observing behavior is disrupted at a lower power density at 1.28 than at 5.62 GHz because of deeper penetration of energy at the lower frequency, and because of frequency-dependent differences in anatomic distribution of the absorbed microwave energy.  相似文献

Mutations in the Pax6 gene disrupt telencephalic development, resulting in a thin cortical plate, expansion of proliferative layers, and the absence of the olfactory bulb. The primary defect in the neuronal cell population of the developing cerebral cortex was analysed by using mouse chimeras containing a mixture of wild-type and Pax6-deficient cells. The chimeric analysis shows that Pax6 influences cellular activity throughout corticogenesis. At early stages, Pax6-deficient and wildtype cells segregate into exclusive patches, indicating an inability of different cell genotypes to interact. At later stages, cells are sorted further based on telencephalic domains. Pax6-deficient cells are specifically reduced in the mediocaudal domain of the dorsal telencephalon, indicating a role in regionalization. In addition, Pax6 regulates the process of radial migration of neuronal precursors. Loss of Pax6 particularly affects movement of neuronal precursors at the subventricular zone/intermediate zone boundary at a transitional migratory phase essential for entry into the intermediate zone. We suggest that the primary role of Pax6 is the continual regulation of cell surface properties responsible for both cellular identity and radial migration, defects of which cause regional cell sorting and abnormalities of migration in chimeras.  相似文献
