A comprehensive study of stem, leaf and petiole anatomy of 10 species of Strobilanthes from northern Western Ghats of India was carried out to identify characteristics which would enable species identification when flowering material is unavailable. In Strobilanthes, some species bloom annually, others are plietesials, i.e. they grow without blooming for several years and then produce huge quantities of flowers, release seeds and die. Therefore, alternative methods, such as anatomical characters, are essential to distinguish Strobilanthes species in their vegetative stage. We collected ten species of Strobilanthes for anatomical characterization. Under the bright‐field microscope, stem cross‐sections of different species were found to be undulate, quadrangular, quadrangular‐winged or terete. Study of the stem revealed a distinct outer and inner cortex, the distribution of cystoliths (CaCO3 crystals), raphides (CaC2H2O5 crystals) and sclereids which varied from species to species. Study of leaf anatomy showed structural variation and vascular bundle shapes that differed between the species. Leaf epidermal characters under light and scanning electron microscopy exhibited variation in characters such as stomatal index, stomatal length and width, stomatal type and presence of glandular and non‐glandular trichomes. The petiole anatomy was species‐specific, especially with respect to vascular bundle structure and the distribution of structures such as sclereids, cystoliths, sphaeraphides and tannin cells varied. Hence, unique anatomical features of the stem, leaf and petiole could be used as taxonomic characters to identify Strobilanthes species in a vegetative state.  相似文献

The pollen morphology of 37 Chinese species of Strobilanthes Blume (Acanthaceae), a large and taxonomically problematic genus, was investigated by LM and SEM. Two distinct pollen shape classes, ellipsoid and spheroidal, recognised by earlier workers were found. Eight pollen types could be distinguished on the basis of variation in ornamentation, and the number, distribution and type of apertures. Five of these fall within twenty two pollen types reported from Strobilanthes in southern India and Sri Lanka. Three new pollen types are also described, further extending the palynological diversity of the genus. From the results presented, the characters of palynological diversity and the related taxonomic implications are discussed.  相似文献

Abstract

Pohlia nutans subsp. schimperi is recognized as a distinct taxon, differing from ssp. nutans by the pink to purple coloration of its leaves and a dioicous or polyoicous, rather than paroicous, sexual condition. We review the contrasting reports about the sexuality of these plants, as well as their nomenclatural history, and demonstrate their synonymy with P. nutans subsp. purpurascens Latzel. The subspecies shows a mainly arctic–subarctic distribution, with relict Central European occurrences in the Eastern Alps, the Sudetes and the western Carpathians, probably reflecting migratory events during the Pleistocene. The ecology and phytosociological affinities of the taxon in Central Europe are discussed in detail.  相似文献

为了解灌丛凋落叶在灌草群落结构维持中可能存在的潜在化感作用,以东祁连山3种优势灌木和灌下优势草种垂穗披碱草(Elymus nutans)为供试材料,分析了不同浓度(0.01 g/L、0.025 g/L、0.05 g/L、0.075 g/L、0.1 g/L)的金露梅(Potentilla fruticosa)、川滇柳(Salix rehderiana)、头花杜鹃(Rhododendron capitatum)及灌间草本的凋落叶水浸提液,对垂穗披碱草种子萌发、幼苗形态和生理指标的影响。结果表明:(1)垂穗披碱草种子发芽率与发芽势在金露梅与川滇柳凋落叶浸提液处理下呈“低促高抑”的浓度效应,在灌间草本凋落叶浸提液处理时表现为先升后降,而头花杜鹃凋落叶浸提液处理时均下降,并在浓度超过0.075 g/L时种子不发芽。(2)灌丛凋落叶浸提液对垂穗披碱草幼苗根长与干重均表现出抑制作用,且随浓度增大而增强;金露梅、川滇柳与灌间草本凋落叶浸提液对垂穗披碱草幼苗苗高表现出“低促高抑”的浓度效应;而头花杜鹃凋落叶浸提液处理对垂穗披碱草幼苗鲜重与苗高均呈抑制作用。(3)垂穗披碱草幼苗CAT、SOD活性随着浸提液...  相似文献

Study of the congruence of population genetic structure between hosts and pathogens gives important insights into their shared phylogeographical and coevolutionary histories. We studied the population genetic structure of castrating anther‐smut fungi (genus Microbotryum) and of their host plants, the Silene nutans species complex, and the morphologically and genetically closely related Silene italica, which can be found in sympatry. Phylogeographical population genetic structure related to persistence in separate glacial refugia has been recently revealed in the S. nutans plant species complex across Western Europe, identifying several distinct lineages. We genotyped 171 associated plant–pathogen pairs of anther‐smut fungi and their host plant individuals using microsatellite markers and plant chloroplastic single nucleotide polymorphisms. We found clear differentiation between fungal populations parasitizing S. nutans and S. italica plants. The population genetic structure of fungal strains parasitizing the S. nutans plant species complex mirrored the host plant genetic structure, suggesting that the pathogen was isolated in glacial refugia together with its host and/or that it has specialized on the plant genetic lineages. Using random forest approximate Bayesian computation (ABC‐RF), we found that the divergence history of the fungal lineages on S. nutans was congruent with that previously inferred for the host plant and probably occurred with ancient but no recent gene flow. Genome sequences confirmed the genetic structure and the absence of recent gene flow between fungal genetic lineages. Our analyses of individual host–pathogen pairs contribute to a better understanding of co‐evolutionary histories between hosts and pathogens in natural ecosystems, in which such studies remain scarce.  相似文献

采用顺序FISH-GISH技术,12个重复序列探针,包括9个三核苷酸简单重复序列、2个卫星DNA重复序列pSc119.2和pAs1以及5S rDNA,通过重复序列的物理定位对达乌里披碱草和垂穗披碱草基因组中部分重复序列的分布特征进行了比较分析,为进一步研究垂穗披碱草和达乌里披碱草的物种形成及演化提供新的分子细胞遗传学证据。结果表明:(1)所有的序列在这2个物种的染色体上都能产生可检测的杂交信号,且在2个物种中(AAC)_(10)、(ACT)_(10)、(CAT)_(10)都表现为共分布,(AAG)_(10)与(AGG)_(10)表现为近似共分布;2个物种的H基因组除5S rDNA序列外,其他序列都产生强烈且丰富的杂交位点,St与Y基因组不同重复序列探针的荧光位点数目有所差别,表现为5S rDNA、pSc119.2、(AAC)_(10)、(CAT)_(10)、(ACT)_(10)、(CAC)_(10)探针的信号位点较少或无信号,其余的探针信号位点稍多。(2)达乌里披碱草的第2对染色体上具有(AAC)_(10)、(CAT)_(10)、(ACT)_(10)的杂交位点、第6对染色体上具有(CAC)_(10)的杂交位点,而在垂穗披碱草的St基因组中未观察到上述序列杂交位点;达乌里披碱草St基因组仅有第4对染色体的端部具有pSc119.2杂交位点,而在垂穗披碱草St基因组中的pSc119.2杂交位点位于第5对染色体长臂的间隔区;相对于达乌里披碱草,垂穗披碱草St和Y基因组染色体含有更多的重复序列杂交位点。(3)达乌里披碱草的H/Y基因组间易位在不同材料间是稳定存在的,达乌里披碱草基因组相对稳定,不同材料间H基因组重复序列杂交信号多态性高于St和Y基因组;垂穗披碱草基因组的变异较大,不同材料间St和Y基因组重复序列杂交信号多态性高于H基因组。研究认为,垂穗披碱草和达乌里披碱草的H基因组均起源于布顿大麦,St基因组可能起源于不同的拟鹅观草属物种;与达乌里披碱草相比垂穗披碱草St与Y基因组可能具有更高的染色体结构变异性,而垂穗披碱草St与Y基因组变异较大的原因可能是与同区域分布的含StY基因组的物种发生了种间渗透杂交。  相似文献

The evolutionary origin of periodical mass‐flowering plants (shortly periodical plants), exhibiting periodical mass flowering and death immediately after flowering, has not been demonstrated. Within the genus Strobilanthes (Acanthaceae), which includes more than 50 periodical species, Strobilanthes flexicaulis on Okinawa Island, Japan, flowers gregariously every 6 years. We investigated the life history of S. flexicaulis in other regions and that of closely related species together with their molecular phylogeny to reveal the evolutionary origin of periodical mass flowering. S. flexicaulis on Taiwan Island was found to be a polycarpic perennial with no mass flowering and, in the Yaeyama Islands, Japan, a monocarpic perennial with no mass flowering. Molecular phylogenetic analyses indicated that a polycarpic perennial was the ancestral state in this whole group including S. flexicaulis and the closely related species. No distinctive genetic differentiation was found in S. flexicaulis among all three life histories (polycarpic perennial, monocarpic perennial, and periodical plant). These results suggest that among S. flexicaulis, the periodical mass flowering on Okinawa Island had evolved from the polycarpic perennial on Taiwan Island via the monocarpic perennial in the Yaeyama Islands. Thus, the evolution of life histories could have taken at the level of local populations within a species.  相似文献

Exotic plants can negatively impact the fitness of native plants by changing the behavior of flower visitors and thus affecting pollen transfer. The presence of an exotic plant may decrease the visitation rate to native plants and thus increase pollen limitation. Flower visitors may also switch between exotic and native plants and if pollen from an exotic plant is transferred to native plant stigmas this may impede siring by conspecific pollen. As flower visitors forage within a spatial context, the distribution of plants may affect the type and magnitude of pollinator‐mediated competition. In this study we examined two questions: 1) does the exotic plant, Carduus nutans (Asteraceae) interact with the native Monarda fistulosa (Lamiaceae) through flower visitors by changing visitation rate and/or through heterospecific pollen transfer, and does this affect seed set of the native plant? 2) Does spatial context affect how the native and exotic plants interact through flower visitors? We created plots containing potted M. fistulosa with and without the presence of potted C. nutans. In the presence of C. nutans, M. fistulosa stigmas had significantly fewer conspecific and more C. nutans pollen grains. Visitation rate and seed set tended to be lower in these invaded plots, however they were not significant. In a second experiment, we examined whether changes in visitation rate to M. fistulosa due to the presence of C. nutans was a function of M. fistulosa distance from C. nutans. We found that visitation rate did not decrease in the presence of C. nutans when M. fistulosa were adjacent to C. nutans or 15 meters from C. nutans. However, floral visitation rate to M. fistulosa decreased at 1 and 5 meters from C. nutans. Our results suggest interactions between plant species through flower visitors may depend on spatial scale.  相似文献

Carduus nutans L. is an invasive pasture/grassland species which may undergo rapid population growth through positive feedback. Plants ofC. nutans produce a vegetative rosette, and after several months produce stems containing flower-heads, during which time the rosette leaves die and decompose. We investigated the influence ofC. nutans on the nitrogen-fixation ability ofTrifolium repens L. in three experiments. The first experiment was set up in a mixture design, and demonstrated that seedlings ofT. repens were more susceptible to competition with otherT. repens seedlings than toC. nutans seedlings. Nodule numbers and acetylene reduction per unit root, and acetylene reduction per unit nodules were adversely affected by increasingT. repens, but notC. nutans densities. The second experiment was of an additive design, with separate partitions to isolate above-ground and below-ground interference. FloweringC. nutans plants strongly inhibitedT. repens root growth, nodulation and acetylene reduction, but usually only when shoot interference was permitted. This appears to be due to decomposition of rosette leaves, which was maximal at this stage. The third experiment involved monitoring effects of taggedC. nutans individuals againstT. repens in the field. This experiment showed that acetylene reduction was severely influenced by floweringC. nutans (when rosette leaves were decomposing), even when only mild reduction ofT. repens growth was observed, and these effects persisted for some months after theC. nutans plants had died. The results of these experiments in combination suggest that decomposing rosette leaves have a strong potential to inhibitT. repens nitrogen fixation. It appears that allelopathy is involved, since alternative explanations (e.g. root competition byC. nutans; effects ofC. nutans on soil moisture, microbial nutrient immobilisation and light availability; facilitation of herbivores byC. nutans) can be effectively discounted. Although invasive species are often assumed to be associated with soil nitrogen build-up, we believe that some invasive species such asC. nutans have the potential to induce long-term decline of soil nitrogen input.  相似文献

To investigate the host specificity of Ophiocordyceps nutans against hemipteran insects in the wild, we determined the relationship between host species and rDNA-internal transcribed spacer (ITS) variation in O. nutans. The analyzed fungal specimens infected 16 host species belonging to four families of Hemiptera. The molecular phylogenetic analysis revealed that O. nutans can be classified into two types corresponding to their host families. The genetic distance values between the two types were very remote (>0.084), and the strains of O. nutans that parasitized Halyomorpha halys and Plautia crossota stali, well-known insect pests, formed a subclade. The results suggest that O. nutans should have host specificity which can be valuable for developing biological control agents against specific hemipteran insects.  相似文献

以发芽率、苗长、根长、苗干重、根干重变化为种子萌发和幼苗生长参数,研究苗期紫花苜蓿(Medicago sativa)植株浸提液对不同地区垂穗披碱草(Elymus nutans)种子萌发生长的化感作用。结果表明:地上部浸提液对LS、DX垂穗披碱草种子发芽率具有明显的促进作用,而对GS、KMX、LKZ、LZ地区垂穗披碱草种子发芽率均表现为抑制作用,其中对GS垂穗披碱草种子发芽率的抑制作用最强,在14.5%和5.5%浓度处理时抑制率分别为57.89%、55.26%;苗长方面,浸提液5.5%浓度对垂穗披碱草苗长的抑制率顺序为:LZNQDXLSKMXQHGSLKZ,14.5%处理时抑制率顺序为:LZKMXLKZNQGSQHDXLS,其中抑制率最高的为LZ垂穗披碱草,在14.5%和5.5%浓度处理时抑制率分别为33.03%、28.97%;根长方面,5.5%处理对垂穗披碱草根长的抑制率顺序为:QHNQLZKMX、GSLKZDX、LS,14.5%处理时抑制率顺序为:GSQH、NQLZLSKMXDXLKZ,其中在高浓度下抑制率最高的为GS垂穗披碱草,抑制率为57.69%;地上部浸提液对LKZ、LZ垂穗披碱草苗干重均具有促进作用,高浓度浸提液对NQ垂穗披碱草苗干重产生促进作用(RI0),而对KMX、DX垂穗披碱草苗干重均表现为抑制作用;根干重方面,浸提液对LS、QH、GS、NQ、LKZ垂穗披碱草根干重均有明显的抑制作用,而对KMX、DX垂穗披碱草根干重产生促进作用,高浓度浸提液对LZ垂穗披碱草的根干重产生促进作用。从根浸提液的作用来看,根浸提液除对LS、DX垂穗披碱草种子发芽率和根干重、GS垂穗披碱草种子发芽率和苗干重及NQ垂穗披碱草根干重具有促进作用外(P 0.05),对其余地区垂穗披碱草的各项指标均有明显的抑制作用(RI0)。所有以上结果表明,紫花苜蓿植株浸提液对垂穗披碱草种子萌发生长的作用具有一定的浓度效应。不同地区垂穗披碱草对紫花苜蓿地上部浸提液的敏感性趋势总体为:GSQHLSKMXNQLKZLZ,最不敏感或有促进作用的是DX垂穗披碱草;对根浸提液的敏感性趋势总体为:QHNQLZKMX,根浸提液对LS、GS、LKZ、DX垂穗披碱草种子萌发生长具有促进作用。紫花苜蓿植株不同部位浸提液对垂穗披碱草种子萌发生长的化感效应顺序为:地上部根。  相似文献

The effects of experimental warming on the growth and physiology of grass Elymus nutans and forb Potentilla anserina were studied by using open-top chambers (OTCs) in an alpine meadow of the eastern Tibetan Plateau. The warming treatment increased mean air and soil surface temperatures by 1.53°C and 0.50°C, respectively, but it reduced soil relative water content in the surface layer. Experimental warming enhanced the growth and gas exchange of E. nutans, while it reduced those of P. anserina. Experimental warming resulted in an increased efficiency of photosystem II (PSII) in E. nutans, while decreasing it in P. anserina; significantly stimulated non-photochemical quenching, antioxidative enzymes and non-enzymes in both species; and significantly reduced malondialdehyde content in E. nutans, while promoting it in P. anserina. The results of this study indicated that the two species showed different growth responses to experimental warming and their different physiological performances further indicated that experimental warming alleviated the negative effect of low temperature on the growth and development of E. nutans, but limited the competitive ability of P. anserina in the study region.  相似文献

Primula nutans Georgi is a herbaceous species broadly distributed in wetlands on the Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau. These wetlands are often spatially highly heterogeneous because of their hummock-and-hollow microtopography. To address how P. nutans can be so broadly distributed on these wetlands, we examined ramet distribution, abundance, and growth performance in environmentally variable microsites at the centimeter scale. P. nutans showed significantly higher ramet density on the south-orientated microsites than on the north-orientated microsites. With increasing relative microsite elevation on the hummocks, ramet density increased significantly, but individual leaf area decreased significantly. Principle component analysis and multiple regression analysis indicated that microsites at higher elevations tend to have higher light availability and higher ramet density. The study suggests that P. nutans shows high plasticity in the distribution, abundance, and growth performance in response to the microtopography at the centimeter scale, which may contribute to the broad distribution of the species in the hummock-and-hollow wetlands in harsh alpine environments on the Tibetan Plateau.  相似文献

Oenothera nutans, common to the Appalachian Mts between 650 and 1 700 m altitude, was investigated cytogenetically and taxonomically. The species is permanently structurally heterozygous. It consists of two genomes of the B-type which are more or less indistinguishable phenotypically. Nearly all of the strains investigated possess a self-incompatibility factor in one of the two complexes. Both complexes show a close relationship to the predominantly homozygousO. grandiflora, a native of the southern lowlands.O. nutans andO. grandiflora possess the same plastid type, plastome III. Probably,O. nutans evolved by an accumulation of reciprocal translocations within an originally structurally homozygous population, which must be regarded ancestral to the present forms ofO. grandiflora.  相似文献

The paper presents the results of the study on seed morphology of four following Ornithogalum species: O. boucheanum Asch., O. nutans L., O. pyrenaicum L., and O. umbellatum L. Several macro-and micro-morphological characters were observed using stereoscope and scanning electron microscope. Differences were found especially in micromorphological characters of the seed surface, the shape of raphe and micropylar pole. These characters can be used as an additional taxonomic criterion at specific level for this genus. Only the seeds of O. boucheanum and O. nutans — two closely related and morphologically very similar species are practically undistinguished.  相似文献

垂穗披碱草(Elymus nutans)是高寒地区建植和改良栽培草地的首选草种。虽然合理植株密度和氮素添加量是垂穗披碱草栽培草地稳产的关键因子,但两者之间是否存在最佳互作组合仍不清楚。采用盆栽试验,通过分析不同植株密度(58、102、146株/m2)和氮素添加量(0、200、400 mg/kg)组合状态下垂穗披碱草株高、单株分蘖数、地上生物量、地下生物量、根系体积和地上地下生物量比,以确定理论上是否存在植株密度和氮素添加量的最佳组合。结果表明:随植株密度增加,垂穗披碱草株高、地上生物量和地上地下生物量比值均先增加后降低,而单株分蘖数逐渐减小,根系体积和地下生物量先增加后保持相对稳定;随氮素添加量增加,垂穗披碱草单株分蘖数、地上生物量和地上地下生物量比值均表现为先增加后降低,地下生物量逐渐降低。植株密度与氮素添加量互作虽然对垂穗披碱草的根系体积和单株分蘖数没有显著影响,但两者互作显著影响了垂穗披碱草株高、地上生物量、地下生物量、地上地下生物量比(P<0.01),这些指标与植株密度和氮素添加量的关系均表现为一个开口向下的抛物面。当植株密度为102株/m2和氮素添加量为200 mg/kg时,垂穗披碱草栽培草地产量最大,生物量分配最优。垂穗披碱草植株密度和氮素添加互作时理论上存在最佳组合,这为垂穗披碱草栽培草地的田间管理提供了理论依据。  相似文献
