The composition and distribution of the species of the genus Scalaspira Conrad, 1862 in the Eocene-Oligocene of western Kazakhstan are revised. Following Tembrock we assign this genus to Buccinidae and synonymize Aquilofusus Kautsky, 1925 with it. The stratigraphic interval studied contains at least eight species. Three species are new: S. alexeevi (Middle? and Upper Eocene, Chegan Formation), S. korobkovi, and S. kumsuatensis (Upper Oligocene, Karatomak Beds).  相似文献

Representatives of the genus Crassatina from the Upper Eocene Mandrikovka Beds in the vicinity of Dnepr (former Dnepropetrovsk) are discussed and figured. From the Mandrikovka assemblage, two new species, C. conquisita and C. insolita, are described. One more new species, C. subcostata, is described from the Middle Eocene deposits of southern suburbs of Krivoi Rog. Two species, C. raricostata (Klushnikov) and C. expolita (Klushnikov), which were originally established as varieties, are redescribed and their species rank is substantiated.  相似文献

Gastropod assemblages from the Mandrikovka Beds of two main localities (village of Mandrikovka and Chapli granite quarry) are compared. The Chapli Assemblage is much more diverse in the number of species, which are mostly small-sized, collected by washing in sieves; the use of this technique is the main reason for the apparently higher diversity of this assemblage. However, some large-sized species occur in one locality and are absent from the other. In particular, the new species Conorbis veselovi sp. nov. is only recorded in the Chapli quarry; it is here described and evidence for its assignment to the genus Conorbis is presented.  相似文献

About 1400 otoliths were collected from a section of the Mandrikovka Beds (Priabonian) from Dnepropetrovsk (Ukraine). In this collection 35 taxa have been determined, four of them are new:Hemirhamphus sosimovichi n. sp., “genus äff.Apogon” ukrainicus n. sp.,Apogon bargi n. sp and “genus Percoideorum“andreevae n. sp. In the Mandrikovka associationApogon is the dominating genus. Together with some other warm-preferent genera the Apogonidae indicate warm water temperatures. On the other hand the common occurrence of cool-preferentRaniceps does not agree with this conclusion. The abnormal coexistence of these extremely different groups indicate a very complex hydrographical Situation during Sedimentation of the Mandrikovka beds which will be discussed. In comparison to western European Paleogene faunas the Mandrikovka association is very closely related to Late Eocene (Priabonian) faunas whereas relations to Early Oligocene faunas of the North Sea Basin remain on a markedly lower level.  相似文献

Three new bivalve species of Crassatella (C. necopina sp. nov., C. personata sp. nov., C. singulata sp. nov.) from detrital sand of the Rybal’sky quarry of Dnepropetrovsk are described. Based on the study of additional material, the subspecies C. (C.) parisiensis Orbigny duplex Berezovsky, 2004 is ranked species (Upper Eocene; Ukraine Dnepropetrovsk, Rybal’sky quarry, Mandrikovka Beds).  相似文献

Acastid trilobites from Ludlow strata on Gotland include three stratigraphically non-overlapping species ofAcastella Reed:Acastella madidipes n. sp. (Hemse Marl and Eke Beds),A. breviceps (Angelin 1851) (Burgsvik Beds), andA. amatrix n. sp. (Hamra Beds, and probably Burgsvik Beds). Type and other material ofA. breviceps (Angelin) from the Klinta Formation, Scania, is revised. Meraspid and early holaspid material ofAcastella is described. Some characters supportAcaste and allied taxa of mostly Wenlock age as a monophyletic subfamily Acastinae.Acastella as widely recognized is a grade with Devonian species more closely related to Asteropyginae than to the Ludlow type species. Baltic Ludlow-P?00ED;dolí species previously placed inScotiella Delo form a distinct group,Ewacaste n. gen., that includes a species from the uppermost Eke Beds on Gotland.  相似文献

The Lower Eifelian Meinerzhagener Korallenkalk (= upper Cultrijugatus Beds) at Kierspe, Sauerland, contains a rich reefal fauna. Eight bryozoan species are described, two of them are new: the cystoporate Fistuliporella kierspensis n. sp. and the trepostome Leptotrypella sophiae n. sp. The bryozoans from the Meinerzhagener Korallenkalk shows distinct similarities to the Lower–Middle Devonian of Spain (Santa Lucía Formation, Emsian–Eifelian), and to the Middle Devonian (Eifelian) of Transcaucasia. The coral fauna comprises five tabulate corals and one rugose coral that document a paleobiogeographic relationship between Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The associated fauna is represented by brachiopods, ostracods, and echinoderms. The studied limestones also commonly contain calcimicrobes represented by three species. The faunal and microfacial characteristics indicate a shallow marine depositional environment just above the storm wave base, with a supposed depth of 20 m, within the photic zone. The nutrient regime was at least a mesotrophic. The upper boundary of the Cultrijugatus Beds coincides with the Chote?-Event that strongly affected brachiopods, whereas corals and bryozoans were insensitive to this event.  相似文献

A new species of fossil wood, Tapirira clarnoensis, is described from a probable late Eocene deposit in the Clarno Formation of Oregon known locally as the Nut Beds. The wood represents, to the knowledge of the writer, the earliest occurrence of Tapirira in the fossil record and the only occurrence of the genus outside its present neutropical range of distribution.  相似文献

Miocene to Pleistocene fossiliferous sediments in the Tugen Hills span the time period from at least 15.5 Ma to 0.25 Ma, including time periods unknown or little known elsewhere in Africa. Consequently, the Tugen Hills deposits hold the potential to inform us about crucial phylogenetic events in African faunal evolution and about long-term environmental change. Among the specimens collected from this region are a number of discoveries already important to the understanding of primate evolution. Here, we describe additional cercopithecoid material from the Miocene deposits in the Tugen Hills sequence, including those from securely dated sites in the Muruyur Beds (16-13.4 Ma), the Mpesida Beds (7-6.2 Ma) and the Lukeino Formation (∼6.2-5.7 Ma). We also evaluate previously described material from the Ngorora Formation (13-8.8 Ma). Identified taxa include Victoriapithecidae gen. et sp. indet., cf. Parapapio lothagamensis, and at least two colobines. Specimens attributed to cf. Pp. lothagamensis would extend the species’ geographic range beyond its type locality. In addition, we describe specimens sharing derived characters with modern African colobines (Tribe: Colobina), a finding that is congruent with previous molecular estimates of colobine divergence dates. These colobine specimens represent some of the earliest known members of the modern African colobine radiation and, in contrast to previous hypotheses, suggest that early African colobines were mainly arboreal and that semi-terrestrial Late Miocene and Plio-Pleistocene colobine taxa were secondarily derived in their locomotor adaptations.  相似文献

The occurrence of Cercidiphyllum -like leaves, infructescences, fruits and seeds in the British early Tertiary is reviewed. Material previously described from the London Clay Formation, Lower Headon Beds (upper Barton Formation), Oldhaven Formation, and Woolwich and Reading Formation, are evaluated along with specimens from a new late Palaeocene locality in the Reading Beds. The leaves are assigned to Trochodendroides prestwichii; and infructescences, fruits and seeds, previously assigned to Carpolithus gardneri and Jenkinsella apocynoides , are united as a single species Nyssidium arcticum. The evidence that Trochodendroides and Nyssidium are parts of a single kind of fossil plant is supported, and the reconstructed ' Nyssidium plant' is compared with extant taxa, particularly extant Cercidiphyllum. The fossil plant shows a combination of characters not seen in any living genus, and the structure of the infructescence, as well as other features, precludes placing it within Cercidiphyllum. 'Nyssidium' and Cercidiphyllum are closely related. The morphological and sedimentological evidence indicates that 'Nyssidium' was an important colonizer of a variety of open flood-plain environments during the early Tertiary.  相似文献

Based on newly collected materials from the Lower Triassic Feixianguan Formation of Xiongwu section in Xingyi, Guizhou and the Ximatang Formation of Ximatang section in Qiubei, Yunnan, southern China, nine species belonging to seven genera are described. Two bivalve assemblages are recognized and regionally correlated in South China. The bivalve assemblage from the Feixianguan Formation of Xiongwu exhibits a higher diversity including seven species belonging to seven genera: Claraia griesbachi, Leptochondria virgalensis, Entolium (Entolium) microtis, Towapteria scythicum, Bakevillia exporrecta, Bositra sp., and Unionites? fassaensis. In contrast, the bivalve assemblage from the Ximatang Formation of Ximatang has a much lower diversity, consisting of only two species, i.e., Claraia griesbachi and Claraia radialis. Additionally, C. griesbachi and C. radialis, as the most common species of Claraia in the Early Triassic, are revised.  相似文献

Llandovery sporomorphs and graptolites have been recovered from the Manbo Formation, Mojiang area, western Yunnan, China, which belonged to the Indo-China Palaeoplate in the Palaeozoic. The graptolite fauna, including 8 genera and 12 species, is considered Mid Telychian, Llandovery in geological age, confirming the existence of Llandovery rocks in this region. The Silurian stratigraphical sequence of this area is reconsidered as in the ascending order: Manbo Formation (Llandovery–early Wenlock), Shuiqing Formation (late Wenlock–Ludlow) and unnamed formation (Pridoli?). The sporomorph assemblage from the Manbo Formation includes seven species in five genera. The dominant members of this assemblage are Tetrahedraletes medinensis and Laevolancis chibrikovae. Based on the low diversity and low abundance, the geological age of this assemblage is considered to be approximately the Telychian, Llandovery. The parent plants of sporomorphs probably inhabited the landmass near Mojiang area, these sporomorph-producing plants probably included bryophyte-like land plants and primitive vascular land plants. The sporomorph evidence shows that the South China and Indo-China palaeoplates may have been in close proximity (maybe with some continental bridges linking them) to each other at least in the Llandovery. They were also closely related with Gondwanaland in the Llandovery.  相似文献

Early ontogenetic shells of 25 species of brackish water and freshwater molluscs from the Ottnangian (Lower Miocene) Oncophora Beds (Lower Bavaria, South Germany) and Kirchberg Formation (Upper Bavaria, South Germany) are described for the first time. Taxonomic implications are discussed. The investigated bivalves (Cardiidae and Dreissenidae) were characterised by an indirect development with inclusion of a planktonic veliger stage. Among the gastropods only three species of the genus CtyrokiaSchlickum, 1965 were characterised by veliger larvae, all the other gastropod species were direct developers, which hatched as crawling young. The species Agapilia schlickumi nov. sp. (Neritidae), Nematurella pseudozilchi nov. sp. and Nematurella strauchi nov. sp. (Hydrobiidae) are introduced. Our study revealed the co-occurrence of 10 molluscan species in the Oncophora Basin of Lower Bavaria and the Kirchberg Basin of Upper Bavaria and thus indicates similar oligohaline to mesohaline coastal swamp milieus for both depositional environments. The presence of planktonic larval development in gastropods indicates a connection to the open sea.  相似文献

There are a total of 16 fossil cercopithecid specimens, representing at least 10 individuals, from the Chiwondo Beds of northern Malawi. The majority of this material is derived from the Middle Pliocene Unit 3A, but one specimen is from the Early Pliocene Unit 2. This latter specimen is from a papionin of indeterminate genus similar in size to Parapapio ado and Pliopapio alemui. Among the specimens from Unit 3A, two species can be diagnosed: an indeterminate species of Theropithecus, and a species of Parapapio similar in dental size to P. broomi. Neither of the genera from Unit 3A are exclusive to either East Africa or South Africa. Their relative abundances, however, are more similar to Middle Pliocene South African sites where Parapapio is the most common primate genus, and Theropithecus is comparatively rare. This is in contrast to similarly-aged East African sites where Theropithecus is by far the most abundant genus.  相似文献

In 1908Vredenburg studied the ammonites collected from the Cretaceous Bagh Beds of India and created the new speciesPlacenticeras mintoi. The author has revised the types of this species, has specified the Lectotype ofP. mintoi and has found that not only this species but alsoHypengonoceras vredenburgi does occur in the Bagh Beds.  相似文献

Selachian teeth obtained from trial samples of the Bosenberg quarry near Vorhelm (Beckumer Beds; lower Upper Campanian) and from outcrops along the Hamelbach brook near Stromberg/Oelde (Stromberger Beds; upper Lower Campanian) are presented. Both sites are located in the central southeast of the Münsterland Cretaceous Basin. Fifteen different taxa were identified but only seven could be assigned to a known species. Compared with other taxa the fauna is clearly dominated by squaliform selachians in terms of the number of species and number of specimens. The mixture of selachians presumed to inhabit both deep and shallow waters corresponds with typical taphonomic assemblages of turbiditic deposits and fits very well with the geological setting of the sampled locations.  相似文献

The bio- and lithostratigraphy of the poorly known early Ordovician (Arenig) Hunneberg Stage is described from the area east of St. Petersburg (Putilovo Quarry and Lava river), where the Lakity Beds (Leetse Fm.) consist of glauconitic sands and silty clays. The described fauna includes graptolites, conodonts, brachiopods, acritarchs, foraminifers, and several problematic groups. The Lakity Beds are unique within the lower Ordovician sequence of the East Baltic in the abundance of graptolites, co-occurring with conodonts. The conodonts from the lower part of the Lakity Beds belong to the uppermost subzone (Oelandodus elongatus — Acodus deltatus deltatus) of theParoistodus proteus Zone, coinciding with the lower part of theTetragraptus phyllograptoides Zone. This suggests that there is a hiatus between the Lakity Beds and the underlying Nazya Formation. The lower Lakity Beds also contain the brachiopodsLeptembolon lingulaeformis andEosiphonotreta cf.acrotretomorpha, which suggest that they may be correlated with the Joa Member of the Leetse Formation in North Estonia. In the upper part of the Lakity Beds, conodonts of thePrioniodus elegans Zone co-occur with graptolites indicating the upper subzone of theTetragraptus phyllograptoides Zone in the Scandinavian sections. There are still problems of defining and correlating the base of the Billingen Regional Stage, which are outside the scope of this paper.  相似文献

More than fifty ostracod species, twenty-two of which are Entomozoacea, have been identified in the upper part of the Teferguenite Formation and in the Marhouma Formation. The zonal sequence established on the Entomozoacea is applicable to the Frasnian and the Famennian of the Algerian Sahara; seven zones are recognized. One new species, Tubulibairdia marhoumaensis nov. sp., is described.  相似文献

The Red Beds of Nandian consists mainly of red mud stone, marlite, quartzitic sand- stanc, Sabulous psephyte and fine psephyte. Predecessor divided them into three formations referring to Upper Triassic-Jurassic. The marlite in Upper Formation of the Red Beds are rich in fossil Sporo-pollen. The fossil spores and pollen contain 17 genera and 15 species, including 3 new species and 2 new combinations. The Sporo-pollen assemblage is characterized by the absolut predominance of the pollen of gymnospcrms (84.8%) compared with the spores of pteridophyta (15.2%), The pollen are specially characterized by the abundance of Classeopollis Pfiug (75.3%) with a certain amount of Psophosphaera (4.5%), Monosulites (2.4%) and a minority of Pinuspollenites (0.6%). The spores grains are characterized by the abundance of Cyathidites (4.1%), and also by presence of Calamospora (2.1%), Reticulatisporitcs (2.4%), Indeterminable form (1.2%), and rare Schizaeisporites (0.3%). Based on the sporo-pollen assemblage of Upper Jurrassic of the Eurasia continent is characterized by the absolute abundance of Classpollis Pflug (>50% of the total number), the Upper Formation oi the Red Beds of Nandian may be referred to Upper Jurassic age. The climate of the Nandian region in the Late Jurassic period is supposed to be as arid as that of Africa at the present time. Bundary of the eastern termination of southern part of the Eurasia continent in- ferred by Vakhrameev (1970) should be complemented.  相似文献
