Ultrastructure of three types of sense receptors of larval Austramphilina elongata (Amphilinidea). International Journal for Parasitology16: 245–251. The ultrastructure of three sense receptors is described. The first is the ending of an anterior dendrite which penetrates deeply into the epidermis and is surrounded by an invagination into the epidermis of the tegument, basal lamina and a thick layer of underlying fibrous matrix, and contains electrondense collars, a basal body and a short ciliary rootlet; it does not reach the surface and is without a cilium. The second is a dendrite which penetrates through the tegument and epidermis and does not contain electron-dense collars, a basal body or a cilium; it forms a free ending on the surface. The third is a nerve ending in the epidermis without electron-dense collars or a basal body, with microvilli-like structures (rhabdomere) and flanked by a densely granular (pigment?) body on one side; it is interpreted as a simple photoreceptor. Diagrams of six sense receptors previously described are given, and the distribution of the receptors in the larva is discussed.  相似文献

Using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the external morphology of all developmental stages (egg, oncomiracidium, diporpa, just fused juvenile and adult) of the parasite, Eudiplozoon nipponicum (Monogenea, Diplozoidae), from the gills of carp was studied. During the ontogeny, the tegument, tegumentary and sensory structures are subsequently developed. The tegument of free swimming oncomiracidium occurs in two types — the ciliated and non-ciliated with numerous uniciliated sensory structures. An attachment apparatus starts to form during the oncomiracidium stage. Further developmental stages are adapted to the environment of the gills. Tegumentary folds become more apparent later in development and assist to the parasite’s attachment. In connection with its reproductive strategy, the two morphological structures of diporpa (ventral sucker and dorsal papilla) appear to play important role. On the gills, two individuals need to meet and these structures mediate the fusion between two diporpae. The hindbody of adult parasite is highly modified for attachment. The haptor, folds and lobular extensions are most developed. The forebody is flexible and able to interact with host gill tissue via the mouth and associated mouth structures. The process of food intake of the parasite was discussed.  相似文献

Light and electron microscopic studies of the 'buccal suckers' of Gotocotyla secunda showed that they are complex structures with muscular, glandular, (resorptive?), and probably sensory components. The name 'buccal organ' is therefore proposed for them. Ducts run from the lumen of the buccal organs to their dorsal, ventral and lateral surface and communicate with lacunae surrounding them. The surface of the ducts and of the muscular walls of the buccal organs are lined by tegument with short microvilli, tegument with dense, long surface lamellae, and tegument with thick, long microvilli which have an electron-dense core. The latter type of tegument contains many vesicles and electrondense ovoid bodies, and is traversed by gland ducts containing large secretory droplets. Electron microscopic examination showed that the prebuccal convoluted structures in Heteromicrocotyloides mirabilis are a modified tegument connected to subtegumental cells. Light microscopic studies of Gotocotyla bivaginalis. Pseudothoracocotyla indica, Pricea multae and Heteromicrocotyla australiensis showed that the first three species have buccal organs similar to those in G. secunda , whereas the last species resembles H. mirabilis. It is tentatively assumed that the buccal organs play a role in finding suitable sites for bloodfeeding.  相似文献

and 1986. The surface topography and ultrastructure of the tegument and haptor of Pricea multae (Monogenea). International Journal for Parasitology 16: 581–589. Pricea multae is a gill parasite of Scomberomorus spp. In the present study, the surface specialization and ultrastructure of the tegument and haptor were examined in detail. The buccal cavity and the preoral pit bear uniciliated sensory endings. The genital atrium opens on the ventral surface whereas the vaginal pore opens on the dorsal surface of the anterior region. The general body surface is elevated by pits and folds together with papillae-like uniciliated sensory endings. Microvilli are uncommon.

The syncytium of the tegument is bounded by apical and basal plasma membranes. Some electron-dense granules and electron-lucent vesicles were observed exocytosing at the apical surface. The tegumental perikarya lie amongst the muscle blocks underneath the basal lamina. The body wall muscle fibres are non-striated consisting of thick and thin myofilaments. Each muscle fibre is limited by a sarcolemma and separated from neighbouring fibres by interstitial material.

The haptor possesses two rows of pincer-type clamps. The clamps may be withdrawn by muscles into cavity-like depressions. Electron-dense fibrils are embedded within the clamp sclerite matrix. The intrinsic muscles of the clamp include radial muscles enclosed within the basal lamina. The muscle fibres enclosed within the basal lamina of the clamp appear to differ from the body wall muscles by the absence of interstitial material, the possession of well defined gap junctions between the sarcolemma of adjacent muscle fibres, abundant sarcoplasmic reticulum and numerous mitochondria. The extrinsic muscles of the clamp presumably arise from the dorso-lateral surface of the haptor and are apparently connected to the tendon of the clamp. A cluster of gland cells occurs in the haptor beneath each clamp. The haptor is richly supplied with nerve fibres which are associated with groups of neurones. Each axon is non-myelinated and contains presumed neurosecretory granules. The peripheries of some of the large axons are subdivided by invaginations of the axon wall.  相似文献

Llewellyn J. and Simmons J. E. 1984. The attachment of the monogenean parasite Callorhynchicola multitesticulatus to the gills of its holocephalan host Callorhynchus milii. International Journal for Parasitology14: 191–196. C. multitesticulatus when juvenile (up to about 10 mm long) attaches itself by four pairs of clamps to the secondary gill lamellae of its host the elephant fish Callorhynchus milii. However, in adult parasites the haptor invades the host tissue and the stalk connecting the haptor with the body-proper becomes surrounded by a sleeve of fibrous host inflammatory reaction tissue. The stalk is provided with annuli with anteriorly-directed flanges which are pressed into the walls of the sleeve of host tissue when the diameter of the stalk increases as a result of the contraction of well-developed sub-tegumentary longitudinal muscles.  相似文献

The tegument of the polyopisthocotylean monogenean Atriaster heterodus Lebedev & Parukhin, 1969 was studied using transmission electron microscopy. The outer syncytial layer of the tegument is connected to the internal cell bodies by cytoplasmic extensions which interweave between the muscular fibres. The free surface of the syncytium has projections of the external membrane which are similar to microvilli. The undulating basal membrane, with numerous narrow elongate projections, is associated with the basal lamina situated between the syncytial and muscular layers. The cell bodies and syncytial layer of the tegument exhibit two types of vesicles, one with fibrous contents and one with electron-dense contents; these were analysed using two cytochemical tests, the E-PTA and alcian blue methods, used for the first time on monogeneans.

and 1986. The surface topography of a monogenean Heterapta chorinemi from the gills of Scomberoides commersonianus. International Journal for Parasitology 16: 595–600. The dorsal and ventral surfaces of H. chorinemi bear microvilli and boss-like structures. These may increase the surface area for respiratory gaseous exchange and absorption of nutrients from the surrounding medium. Uniciliated sensory endings, presumably rheoreceptors, are present over the entire surface whereas non-ciliated structures, possibly mechanoreceptors, are present only on the ventral surface of the haptor. The haptor possesses 6–10 pairs of pincer-type clamps and 30–40 pairs of open sucker-type clamps with scleritized jaws. The common genital atrium is situated on the ventral surface, the vaginal pore opens on the dorsal surface and the mouth is subterminal as described in previous light microscope studies.  相似文献

Choricotyle anisotremi n. sp. is described from the gills and on the inner surface of the operculum of Anisotremus scapularis (Pomadasyidae) from the Chilean coast. Distinct characteristics of the new species are: presence of an oval accessory sclerite on the inner quadrant of the clamp adjacent to the accessory sucker; 12 genital hooks; short and stout peduncles, the last pair of which are closely apposed; a lobed seminal receptacle; and a fan-like posthaptor without a terminal lappet.  相似文献

The unarmed haptor of Anoplodiscus australis erodes the epidermis and attaches to the basal lamina above the stratum compactum in the caudal fin of Acanthopagrus australis by an eosinophilic, weakly PAS-positive and strongly toluidine blue-positive secretion. Ultrastructural evidence shows that the adhesive secretion, in the form of rod-shaped bodies, is produced by subtegumentary cells that connect by ducts to the thin, ventral syncytial tegument of the haptor; these bodies pass into the tegument, then coalesce in the host-parasite interface. This means of attachment has developed by an enhancement and regional specialization of the subtegumentary secretory cells associated with a syncytial tegument in monogeneans and some other platyhelminths. The available evidence indicates that the adult parasite is permanently attached.  相似文献

Dunn T. S., Hanna R. E. B. and Nizami W. A. 1987. Ultrastructural and histochemical observations on the epidermis, presumptive tegument and glands of the miracidium of Gigantocotyle explanatum (Trematoda: Paramphistomidae). International Journal for Parasitology17: 885–895. The miracidium is invested with 20 ciliated epidermal cells arranged in four tiers (6: 8: 4: 2 = 20). Non-ciliated ridges of cytoplasm, located between the epidermal cells, are continuous with an extensive multivesiculate syncytium which underlies the body musculature and comprises the main bulk of the miracidium. It is suggested that the syncytium represents the presumptive sporocyst tegument. Two distinct types of glands are present in the anterior region of the miracidium, viz. a large, syncytial apical gland and a single pair of small, unicellular lateral glands. The apical papilla is formed by the bounding membrane of the apical gland, which is elevated into a complex network of anastomosing lamellae. The lateral glands terminate in discrete rosetteshaped areas on the apical papilla. The possible function of glands in digenetic miracidia and the nature of their secretions are discussed.  相似文献

The structural features of eggs of Zorotypus caudelli Karny are described in detail. The egg is elliptic with long and short diameters of 0.6 and 0.3 mm respectively, and creamy white. The egg shows a honeycomb pattern on its surface, without any specialized structures for hatching such as an operculum or a hatching line. The fringe formed by a fibrillar substance secreted after the completion of the chorion encircles the lateral surface. The egg layer is composed of an exochorion, an endochorion, and a vitelline envelope. The exochorion and endochorion are electron-dense and homogeneous in structure. The exochorion shows a perforation of numerous branching aeropyles. The exo- and endochorion are connected by numerous small columnar structures derived from the latter. The vitelline envelope is very thin and more electron-dense than the chorion. A pair of micropyles is present at the equator on the dorsal side of the egg. Originating at the micropyle, the micropylar canal runs through the chorion obliquely. The structural features of the eggs of Zoraptera were compared with those of other polyneopteran and paraneopteran orders.  相似文献

and 1986. The surface topography of Bicotyle vellavoli (Monogenea) from the gills of Pampus chinensis. International Journal for Parasitology 16: 591–594. The haptor possesses two dissimilar rows of clamps. On one side of the haptor a few large sucker clamps occur while on the other side, a greater number of small pincer-type clamps of uniform size are present. The mouth opens subterminally on the ventral surface. The common genital aperture occurs midventrally while the vaginal pore opens on the dorsal surface. Transverse annulations and tegumental protrusions are present on the body surface of Bicotyle vellavoli but microvilli are absent. Uniciliated sensory structures, presumably rheoreceptors or tangoreceptors occur on the body surface. In contrast, the clamps bear non-ciliated domeshaped papilla-like structures.  相似文献

The following presumptive sense receptors of adult Multicotyle purvisi from the intestine of freshwater turtles in Malaya are described by transmission electron microscopy: disc-like receptor with many electron-dense collars and modified ciliary rootlet forming a 'disc'; non-ciliate receptor with long rootlet; non-ciliate receptor with branching rootlet and dense mass of irregularly arranged microtubules; non-ciliate receptor with rootlet fanning out from basal body, cross-striated in its upper and with electron-dense structures in its lower part; uniciliate receptor with thick layer of cytoplasm around axoneme; receptor with short cilium, at base of deep invagination of tegument; receptor with short cilium terminating in an electron-dense apical cap; and uniciliate receptor with long cilium. In addition, there may be a small non-ciliate receptor with a long ciliary rootlet at the base of the thick dorsal tegument, and uniciliate receptors differing from the uniciliate receptor with long cilium in the number of electron-dense collars and the length of the cilium and ciliary rootlet. Implications of the findings for the phylogeny of the parasitic Platyhelminthes and for evolutionary trends within that group arc discussed. The considerable degree of divergence of receptor types between the species of one family is attributed to the archaic nature of the group.  相似文献

Numerous unicellular glands are present in the forebody of the metacercariae and adults of Microphallus similis. The gland cell bodies lie beneath the tegumental perinuclear cytoplasm and ducts pass upwards penetrating the tegumental distal cytoplasm. Electron dense granules are secreted onto the forebody surface and into the oesophagus via small pits in the tegument. Histochemical tests revealed that the glands contain diastase-resistant neutral mucosubstances, RNA, protein, esterase and small amounts of acid phosphatase; inhibitor studies indicated that the esterase was acetylcholinesterase (EC 3.1.1.7). Ultracytochemistry showed that the mucosubstances were located in the general cytoplasm of the gland cells and that cholinesterase was present in the granules. The forebody of M. similis is covered by large toothed spines whereas the hindbody only bears short peg-like spines. It is suggested that the forebody spines may have an irritating, abrasive effect on the host's intestinal mucosa and that the secretion of acetylcholinesterase in the region of these spines may produce a ‘local anaesthetic’ effect on the host's gut by reducing movement in the immediate vicinity of the fluke, so decreasing the likelihood of expulsion.  相似文献

Craspedella has a non-ciliated epidermis with nuclei located in the epidermis and with short microvilli. There is a thin basal lamina and thick underlying fibrous matrix. Rhabdites are secreted through ducts lined by microtubules. Multiciliate sense receptors consist of bundles of dendrites in a depression of the epidermis. Each dendrite has a cilium with a cross-striated rootlet; there are no electron-dense collars. Spermatozoa have peripheral microtubules which in cross-section are arranged in a ring-like or spiral fashion, numerous electron-dense granules, mitochondria and a nucleus; axonemes of the 9 +'1'type are free for most of their length. Centrioles occur in some nerve fibres. In Didymorchis parts of the epidermis are ciliated and epidermal perikarya are 'insunk', connected to the surface part of the epidermis by a single cytoplasmic process. Epidermal cilia have cross-striated vertical and horizontal rootlets. In the ciliary tips a short electron-dense rod along the central pair of tubules extends to the tip, where it widens to become a terminal plate; peripheral doublets gradually disappear by losing their microtubules. Receptors observed are uniciliate. Spermatozoa are as in Craspedella . Ultrastructural evidence indicates that Craspedella and Didymorchis arc closely related and belong to the Rhabdocoela.  相似文献

The tegument, or body wall, of schistosomes is the primary tissue for host interaction and site targeted schistosome vaccination. However, many aspects of the cell biology, particularly differentiation and maintenance, remain uncharacterised. A leading vaccine candidate, Schistosoma mansoni tetraspanin 2 has proven efficacy in experimental models, but its function, precise subcellular location in the tegument and role in tegument biology is not well understood. A primary question is whether this molecule is a true surface molecule, that is, whether it appears within the apical membrane of the tegument. Hitherto, the target sequence for antibody localisation studies had not been available for advanced subcellular localisation studies, such as immuno-electron microscopy, due to aldehyde sensitivity. To circumvent this problem, we adapted the methods of high pressure freezing and cryosubstitution with uranyl acetate for immuno-electron microscopy. The tri-dimensional structure of tegument membranes was resolved using electron tomography. Immunolocalisation of Schistosoma mansoni tetraspanin 2 demonstrates that the molecule is localised to tegument membrane compartments, but predominantly within internal structures associated with surface invaginations and internal vesicles. Surprisingly, no label was found at the virtual surface of the parasite. The significance of this localisation pattern is discussed.  相似文献

The external surface of the redial body of Fasciola hepatica is provided with microvillus-like projections or short lamellae, and short cilium-like structures are common anteriorly. The anterior part of the cercarial body possesses a pattern of regularly arranged small depressions each containing a spine. Both long and short cilium-like structures occur anteriorly. The tail is spineless and provided with dorsolateral folds. The outer cyst wall is formed by granules secreted from the tegument all over the body apart from the ventral sucker. Most granules transform into fibrillae which form the thick outer spongy layer. The precursor of the inner cyst wall is at the beginning closely attached to the metacercarial surface, but later the membrane-like cyst wall extends, and when fully formed the metacercaria lies free in the flattened circular inner cyst. The ventral plug is formed by the ventral sucker. The tegument of newly excysted metacercariae is provided with simple pointed spines, but later during migration in the mouse the spines become flattened and multipointed. Very young migratory stages may be attached with host cells.  相似文献

Ultrastructure of Blue-Green Algae   总被引:15,自引:6,他引:9       下载免费PDF全文
Two freshwater blue-green algae, Tolypothrix tenuis and Fremyella diplosiphon, and an oscillatorialike marine alga, were found to possess structures on the photosynthetic lamellae which appear to correspond to the phycobilisomes of red algae. These homologous structures are important because they contain the phycobilins which are accessory pigments involved in photosynthesis. As in the red algae, the phycobilisomes were attached on the outer side of each lamellae, i.e., the side facing away from its own membrane pair. Although our study on Anacystis nidulans has not thus far revealed the presence of phycobilisomes, some observations were made on the structure of the polyhedral bodies. After negative staining, the polyhedral bodies were seen to be composed of regularly spaced subunits arranged in a crystalline array. Elongated segmented rods, which differed from the polyhedral bodies, were found in the nuclear region of apparently healthy Tolypothrix cells.  相似文献
