The effect of growth rate and maturation on the proximate composition and energy content of Atlantic cod, Gadus morhua L., was investigated over 10 months for each of two consecutive years, 1978–1980 at 5 and 8 °C. Relative energy and lipid content of whole cod increased with specific growth rate for all three sampling periods (November, January, March), each at 5 and 8 °C. Relative water content decreased with specific growth rate and temperature, and was lower in March than in January and November. Relative protein content was positively correlated with specific growth rate, but to a lesser degree than with temperature and age. Relative ash content was negatively correlated with specific growth rate. The effect of season and temperature on the proximate content of gonad, liver, muscle, and carcass was also determined. The major energy and lipid source in cod was the liver. Energy, lipid, and water were highly correlated to each other, and regressions are provided to allow for their prediction, given one of the components. Energy budgets for cod at 5 and 8 °C are calculated and the effect of increased ration size on the budget is estimated. The prediction of short-term specific growth rates of cod from the proximate composition is proposed. The proximate composition of cod is affected by growth rate and thus feeding level, and in turn directly affects behaviour. The relative proximate content of maturing and immature 3-yr-old cod was not found to be significantly different. Morphometric‐based condition indices are widely used to assess proximate body composition and, collaterally, feeding and living conditions of fish. However, the exact relationship between condition indices and proximate body composition of fish and its relatedness to life history traits and seasonality has yet to be fully explored. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine how the Fulton's condition factor (K‐factor) is related to the chemical composition (i.e. lipid, protein, water and carbon content, and molar carbon : nitrogen ratio), length and gonadal development of fish, and how these relationships are influenced by gender and seasonality in three freshwater fish species: Amur sleeper (Perccottus glenii), pumpkinseed (Lepomis gibbosus) and rudd (Scardinius erythrophthalmus). It was found that the strength and direction of association between the K‐factor and proximate body composition can vary markedly among fish species. The K‐factor correlated positively with gonadal development in pumpkinseed and Amur sleeper, while no such relationship existed in rudd. Condition factor can be a reliable measure of lipid content; however, the relationship was stronger in species with higher and more variable lipid contents. Moreover, a striking and consistently negative linkage was found between the K‐factor and water content of the fish body, which corresponds to the findings of several other studies. In turn, any relationship between the K‐factor and the protein content of fish was not detected. Gender seemed to exert a negligible effect on the relationship between the K‐factor and proximate body composition, while seasonal variance was obvious in most relationships.  相似文献

The hypothesis that body size and swimming velocity affect proximate body composition, wet mass and size‐selective mortality of fasted fish was evaluated using small (107 mm mean total length, L T) and medium (168 mm mean L T) juvenile rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss that were sedentary or swimming ( c . 1 or 2 body length s−1) and fasted for 147 days. The initial amount of energy reserves in the bodies of fish varied with L T. Initially having less lipid mass and relatively higher mass‐specific metabolic rates caused small rainbow trout that were sedentary to die of starvation sooner and more frequently than medium‐length fish that were sedentary. Swimming at 2 body length s−1 slightly increased the rate of lipid catabolism relative to 1 body length s−1, but did not increase the occurrence of mortality among medium fish. Death from starvation occurred when fish had <3·2% lipid remaining in their bodies. Juvenile rainbow trout endured long periods without food, but their ability to resist death from starvation was limited by their length and initial lipid reserves.  相似文献

Water level, ash content, proximate (protein, lipid, carbohydrate and chitin) and elemental (carbon and nitrogen) composition were analyzed in twentythree species of Antarctic Zooplankton collected during the austral fall (1986) and winter (1988) from the Scotia/Weddell Sea region. Extremes in water level, ash content and organic components were typified by copepods and gelatinous forms. Ostracods and polychaetes were generally similar in composition to copepods, being only slightly higher in water level and ash content. Chaetognaths exhibited a composition intermediate in character with some components similar in value to that shown by crustaceans (i.e. protein) while other components were more in the range of values seen in gelatinous forms (i.e. water level and ash content). Protein was the major proximate component and measured values (as % Afdw) were fairly uniform among non-gelatinous species (x=33.9±6.9). Lipid levels were variable, with high values (>30% AFDW) only found for the copepods Calanoides acutus, Calanus propinquus and Euchaeta antarctica. Carbohydrate values were low in all species examined. Chitin was measured in crustacean species only. With the exception of C. acutus (x=2.5% AFDW chitin), values were similar among species with mean values being slightly higher in fall (x=11.8±2.5) than in winter (x=6.7±1.8). Among non-gelatinous species, the ratio of carbon to nitrogen was positively correlated with the lipid to protein ratio, underscoring the compositional association between elemental and proximate components in these groups. In gelatinous species, the relationship between carbon:nitrogen and lipid:protein was inconsistent and less pronounced. Caloric content was estimated from recovered organic matter for nongelatinous species. As a function of wet weight and dry weight, values reflected differences in water level and ash content among individual species. As a function of ashfree dry weight, values were similar among all species (x=3.6±0.9 kcal/g).Seasonal comparisons were possible for 12 of the 23 species. Among crustaceans, changes in water level and organic components were variable reflecting dissimilar trophic, reproductive or ecological habits among different species. Essentially no change in composition between fall and winter was observed for diapause species (e.g. Calanoides acutus and Rhincalanus gigas) as well as for omnivorous/ carnivorous species (e.g. Gaetanus tenuispinus). Conversely, large compositional changes were evident for Calanus propinquus, a small-particle grazer that relies heavily on lipid reserves. Chaetognaths and some gelatinous species exhibited a considerable decrease in ash content from fall to winter which, for most cases, was mirrored by some degree of increase in lipid level. Relationships between the various body proximate components and dry matter content were examined for five species of fishes, representing anadromous, marine and freshwater species: chum salmon Oncorhynchus keta, Chinook salmon Oncorhynchus tshawytscha, brook trout Salvelinus fontinalis, bluefish Pomatomus saltatrix and striped bass Morone saxatilis. The dry matter content or per cent dry mass of these fishes can be used to reliably predict the per cent composition of the other components. Therefore, with validation it is possible to estimate fat, protein and ash content of fishes from per cent dry mass information, reducing the need for costly and time‐consuming laboratory proximate analysis. This approach coupled with new methods of non‐lethal estimation of per cent dry mass, such as from bioelectrical impedance analysis, can provide non‐destructive measurements of proximate composition of fishes.  相似文献

研究旨在探讨洱海土著鱼类春鲤(Cyprinus longipectoralis)(初始体重0.55 g)对蛋白质和脂肪的需求量。实验采用3×3双因子设计,蛋白水平为33%、39%和45%,脂肪水平为5%、8%和11%,共9组等能饲料。实验在水温为(28±2)℃的室内微流水系统中进行,为期56d。实验结果表明:随着蛋白水平的提高,摄食率显著降低(P<0.05),饲料效率、能量沉积率、鱼体水分和脂肪含量显著升高(P<0.05),但特定生长率、蛋白质效率、蛋白沉积率、鱼体灰分含量和能值均无显著变化(P>0.05)。随着脂肪水平的提高,特定生长率、蛋白沉积率和鱼体蛋白含量显著下降,鱼体脂肪含量显著上升(P<0.05),而摄食率、饲料效率、能量沉积率、鱼体水分和灰分含量以及能值则无明显变化(P>0.05)。通过折线回归分析得出,当饲料中蛋脂比为7.30时,春鲤有最大的特定生长率。研究结果表明,春鲤饲料中适宜的蛋白和脂肪水平分别为33%—34%和4%—5%。  相似文献

Physiological responses to changes in energy balance are tightly regulated by the endocrine system through glucocorticoids, IGF-I and thyroid hormones. Changes in these hormones were studied in eight captive female Steller sea lions that experienced changes in food intake, body mass, body composition, and blood metabolites during summer and winter. During a period of energy restriction, one group of sea lions was fed reduced amounts of Pacific herring and another was fed an isocaloric diet of walleye pollock, after which both groups returned to their pre-experimental diets of herring. Cortisol was negatively and IGF-I was positively associated with changes in body mass during periods of energy restriction (mass loss associated with increase in cortisol and decrease in IGF-I) and refeeding (body mass maintenance associated with stable hormone concentrations in summer and compensatory growth linked to decrease in cortisol and increase in IGF-I in winter). Cortisol and IGF-I were also correlated with changes in lipid and lean mass, respectively. Consequently, these two hormones likely make adequate biomarkers for nutritional stress in sea lions, and when combined provide indication of the energetic strategy (lipid vs lean mass catabolism) animals adopt to cope with changes in nutrient intake. Unlike type of diet fed to the sea lions, age of the animals also impacted hormonal responses, with younger animals showing more intense hormonal changes to nutritional stress. Thyroid hormones, however, were not linked to any physiological changes observed in this study.  相似文献

为了探究中华鳖(Pelodiscus sinensis)幼体的补偿生长能力,我们对中华鳖幼鳖(平均湿重9.56g)进行如下6种处理:饥饿0(对照)、1、2、3、4周,或者食物限制4周,即只投喂体湿重百分之一的食物;然后对各组进行饱食处理直到10周的实验结束为止。结果发现在饱食期的第一周各饥饿处理组的特殊生长率均显著高于对照组(P〈0.05),但是终体重均没有赶上对照组。当饥饿或食物限制结束时,脂肪含量随着饥饿期的延长而降低,灰分和水分则表现出相反的变化趋势:脂肪含量显著低于对照(P〈0.05),而灰分和水分则显著高于对照(P〈0.05)。蛋白含量则没有显著变化(P〉0.05)。实验结束时,除了灰分外(P〈0.05),其他个体组成指标均恢复到对照组的水平。以上结果表明中华鳖幼体在饥饿胁迫下首先利用脂肪作为主要能源以维持生存,以及在该研究条件下完全的食物剥夺可以诱发其部分补偿生长反应.而部分食物剥夺则不能诱发此反应。  相似文献

The stomach content of pikeperch Sander lucioperca was studied in 24 lakes in central Finland. The most important prey species was smelt Osmerus eperlanus then perch Perca fluviatilis . The proportion of cyprinids as prey increased with pikeperch total length ( L T) and lake phosphorus content. Prey L T and pikeperch L T correlated positively, but the prey‐to‐predator size ratio correlated negatively with pikeperch L T.  相似文献

The analyses of fresh total body homogenates of 2385 freshwater fishes from 17 species originating in natural waters and aquaculture facilities resulted in average values of 19.1–37.8% dry matter, 13.6–18.3% crude protein, 0.8–18.3% crude fat, 0.16–2.17% nitrogen-free extracts (NFE), 2.2–2.9% nitrogen and 0.39–1.02% phosphorus. The gross energy content ranged from 3.83 to 11.49 MJ/kg. With increasing fat content in the fishes, water content decreased and dry matter content increased. Through this interdependence, a significant correlation was found between dry matter and crude fat and energy content (r2=0.92–0.97). The values of crude protein, crude ash, NFE, nitrogen and phosphorus did not show any significant influence on dry matter content (r2=0.0005–0.46). Based on the significant correlation between dry matter and gross energy (gross energy [MJ/kg]=0.0253 dry matter [%]1.6783), the energy content of freshwater fishes can easily be estimated by the dry matter content in the total body.  相似文献

The body condition, lipid reserves and mortality of 0 and 1 year‐old perch Perca fluviatilis and ruffe Gymnocephalus cernuus , sampled during the winter in Lake Constance, Germany, were compared. Length‐frequency analyses did not provide evidence for overwinter mortality in either species. The fresh and dry mass of perch as well as their lipid contents decreased during winter, while ruffe were heavier and contained more lipid at the end of the winter. The superior performance of ruffe was mainly attributed to its sensory capabilities, which allowed it to ingest zoobenthos throughout the winter, while the zooplankton feeding of perch was constrained by low light levels. In lakes that undergo a process of re‐oligotrophication, this advantage of ruffe over perch may be even more pronounced, since lower food supply during the growth season and thus lower fish lipid content at the start of winter is probably better tolerated by ruffe than by perch.  相似文献

The consumption of estuarine copepods by juvenile herring and sprat during estuarine residency was estimated using fish biomass data and daily rations calculated from two models of feeding in fish: a bioenergetic model and a gastric evacuation model. The bioenergetic model predicted daily rations that were, on average, three times higher than those estimated by a model based on field records of stomach contents. The biomass of herring and sprat in the estuary was negatively correlated with the daily ration suggesting that the clupeid fish populations were resource-limited. Copepod production decreased towards the winter and peaked in spring and summer. The relative importance of predation changed seasonally in function of the migration pattern of herring and sprat. In the spring and the summer, in situ production ofcopepod biomass was higher than the in situ consumption by fish. During the fall and the winter, consumption exceeded production. This suggests that top–down control exerted by marine pelagic fish may be an important force structuring estuarine copepod populations.  相似文献

以初始体重为(0.900.02) g的中华绒螯蟹幼蟹为试验对象, 采用酪蛋白、明胶、进口鱼粉和晶体氨基酸为蛋白源, 配制成12组试验饲料, 研究中华绒螯蟹幼蟹对亮氨酸(Leu)和异亮氨酸(Ile)的需要量。饲料中Leu水平为0.87%、1.26%、1.64%、2.03%、2.39%和2.81% (分别记为Leu-1Leu-6组), Ile水平为0.69%、1.21%、1.70%、2.19%、2.70%和3.21% (分别记为Ile-1Ile-6组)。试验周期为60d。结果表明: (1)饲料中Leu含量为2.39%时, 幼蟹特定生长率和全蟹粗蛋白含量达到最大值, 而各组之间的成活率和全蟹水分、粗脂肪以及灰分无显著差异(P 0.05)。当饲料Leu含量大于2.39%时, 河蟹肌肉Leu含量、肌肉必需氨基酸总量和肌肉氨基酸总量均显著高于其他各试验组(P 0.05)。(2)饲料中Ile含量为2.19%时, 幼蟹特定生长率和全蟹粗蛋白含量达到最大值, 而各试验组之间的成活率和全蟹水分、粗脂肪以及灰分差异不显著(P 0.05)。河蟹肌肉Ile含量、必需氨基酸总量和氨基酸总量随饲料中Ile含量增加呈先升高后降低的趋势, 最大值均出现在Ile-5组(2.70% Ile), 但Ile-4组(2.19% Ile)与Ile-5组差异不显著(P 0.05)。根据特定生长率与饲料Leu或Ile水平的折线模型, 确定中华绒螯蟹幼蟹饲料亮氨酸和异亮氨酸的适宜需要量分别为饲料干物质的2.36%和2.25%, 即饲料蛋白的5.88%和5.72%。    相似文献

Diel feeding patterns of herring Clupea harengus and mackerel Scomber scombrus in the southern Gulf of St Lawrence were examined based on samples obtained by midwater trawling between 19 and 26 June 2001. Within 3 h time periods, stomach contents tended to be more similar between fish from the same tow than between fish from different tows. Thus, in contrast to previous diet studies, which have used individual fish stomachs as independent observations, tow was used as the experimental unit in statistical analyses in this study. Diel patterns in stomach fullness were identified using generalized additive models. Two peaks in stomach fullness occurred for herring, one in the morning and the other in the evening. Mackerel showed an increase in feeding intensity throughout the day with a peak in mid‐afternoon. The diel changes in stomach contents suggested rapid gastric evacuation rates for both species, especially for herring. The estimate of the instantaneous evacuation rate for herring was twice that for mackerel. Calanus copepods (mainly C. hyperboreus ), fishes (mainly capelin Mallotus villosus ) and euphausiids were the main prey found in the stomachs of both species. Calanus copepods dominated the diet of herring regardless of time period. They also dominated the diet of mackerel during the late afternoon, evening and night while fishes and euphausiids were dominant during the morning and early afternoon. These diel patterns emphasize the need for sampling throughout the day and night in order to estimate ration and diet composition for bioenergetic and ecosystem models.  相似文献

Feeding ecology of central Baltic Sea herring and sprat   总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7  
A unique dataset of stomach contents sampled between 1977 and 1999 in the central Baltic Sea was used to perform a comprehensive study of the feeding ecology of Central Baltic herring Clupea harengus and sprat Sprattus sprattus . Both fish species were mainly preying upon calanoid copepods with Pseudocalanus sp. dominating the diet of herring, whereas sprat generally preferred Temora longicornis . Sprat preyed upon older copepodite stages, indicating size‐selective particulate feeding, whereas herring additionally fed on smaller copepodite stages, indicating occasional low food supply inducing filter‐feeding. Additional food sources other than copepods were mysids in winter and autumn for medium to large herring, as well as cladocerans for sprat in spring and summer, determined by the seasonal occurrence of these plankton species. Seasonally the highest feeding activity of both fishes species occurred in spring and summer, the main reproductive periods of calanoid copepods. The most important food item for both predators in spring was Pseudocalanus sp. In summer sprat switched to T. longicornis and Acartia spp. Since the late 1970s, the total stomach fullness decreased and the fraction of empty stomachs increased. In parallel the amount of Pseudocalanus sp. in the diets of both fish species decreased. Further, a considerable dietary overlap between both species in spring indicated considerable competition for food resources, especially due to an enlarged sprat stock. The results of this study support the hypothesis that growth reductions observed in Baltic herring and sprat are due to combination of a change in food availability and an increase in density‐dependent competition.  相似文献

Inter‐individual differences in rates of routine (non‐feeding) metabolism and growth were evaluated in young‐of‐the‐year (YOY) juvenile Atlantic cod Gadus morhua . Rates of O2 consumption, CO2 production and ammonia (TAN) excretion were measured in 64, 25–43 mm standard length ( L S) YOY growing at different rates (0·27–0·47 mm day−1) in a common rearing tank. Parameter rates ( y ) increased allometrically ( y = a·Mb ) with increasing body mass ( M ) with b ‐values for O2 production, CO2 consumption and TAN excretion equal to 0·81, 0·89 and 0·56, respectively. In some cases, residuals from these regressions were significantly negatively correlated to fish growth rate. In no cases did residuals of parameter rates increase with increasing growth rate. These data suggest that, during unfed periods, relatively fast‐growing fish were more metabolically efficient than slower‐growing fish from the same cohort. The fish condition factor, derived from     , also significantly decreased with increasing growth rate. Results indicated differences in both the rates of routine energy loss and the patterns of growth allocation among YOY Atlantic cod. Since these physiological attributes were positively correlated with growth rate, they may be indicative of 'survivors' in field populations.  相似文献

以含辅酶Q10(CoQ10)分别为0、40、80和120 mg/kg的4种饲料饲喂平均初始体重为(19.97±0.13) g的吉富罗非鱼(Oreochromis niloticus, GIFT)幼鱼56d,探讨辅酶Q10对吉富罗非鱼幼鱼生长性能、体成分、抗氧化能力、组织结构和基因表达的影响。结果显示,各辅酶Q10组吉富罗非鱼幼鱼的终末体重、摄食率、特定生长率和饲料效率与对照组均无显著差异, 120 mg/kg辅酶Q10组终末体重、特定生长率和饲料效率均为最高;辅酶Q10含量为120 mg/kg时,吉富罗非鱼幼鱼的干物质消化率显著升高;各辅酶Q10组血清过氧化氢酶(CAT)和谷胱甘肽过氧化物酶(GSH-Px)活性均显著高于对照组;各辅酶Q10组肝脏CAT和GSH-Px活性均显著高于对照组, 80和120 mg/kg辅酶Q10组肝脏总超氧化物歧化酶(SOD)和谷胱甘肽S转移酶(GST)活性均显著升高,丙二醛(MDA)含量显著降低;各实验组去内脏全鱼的水分、粗蛋白和灰分含量均无显著性差异, 120 mg/kg辅酶Q10组去内脏全鱼粗脂肪显著低于对照组;各实验组内脏团水分、粗蛋白、粗脂肪和灰分...  相似文献

为了解高原鼢鼠在越冬期的食物选择与营养成分之间的关系,采集了67 个高原鼢鼠的冬季粮仓及环境样方,分析高原鼢鼠对每一种植物的选择指数,将其分成3 种食物类型:喜食、可变和不喜食。通过测定每一种植物的粗蛋白、粗纤维、水溶性糖和粗灰分的含量,比较分析了营养成分含量在3 种食物类型间的差异,及其与各种植物选择指数的相关关系。结果显示,高原鼢鼠储存的食物种类多达67 种,本文选取含量较高且样本量大于5 的39 种植物(占粮仓和样方总生物量的99% 以上其中喜食12 种、可变16 种、不喜食11 种)进行分析。在3 种食物类型之间,粗蛋白、粗纤维和水溶性糖含量均有极显著差异(P < 0. 001),粗灰分含量则无明显差异(P = 0.800)。喜食和可变类型的粗蛋白和水溶性糖含量显著高于不喜食类型(P < 0.01);喜食和可变类型的粗纤维含量则显著低于不喜食类型(P < 0. 01);喜食和可变类型之间这3 个指标差异都不显著(P >0. 05)。Spearman 相关分析显示,粗蛋白(R = 0.547,P < 0.001)和水溶性糖(R = 0.617,P < 0. 001)含量与选择指数显著正相关,粗纤维与选择指数显著负相关(R = - 0. 707,P <0. 001),粗灰分与选择指数则无显著相关关系(R = 0.032,P =0. 846)。结果表明,高原鼢鼠总体上偏好粗蛋白和水溶性糖含量高、粗纤维含量低的植物,对无机盐的含量则不敏感。  相似文献
