Vegetative reproduction of Chondracanthus chamissoi by means of fragmentation and re-attachment of thalli is considered an effective strategy for maintaining natural populations
of this species. Here, we evaluate the effects of (1) time of drifting thallus, (2) type of substratum, and (3) photon flux
density, on the re-attachment capacity of thallus fragments of C. chamissoi. The results show that re-attachment decreases with the time after detachment, and was higher at the lower photon flux densities
tested (10 and 40 μmol photons m−2s−1), and on calcareous substratum. Secondary attachment discs are formed along the entire surface of the fragment. 相似文献

Thalli of the economically important rhodophyteGelidium sesquipedale were cultured for 8 weeks under laboratory conditions, and the influence of temperature and photoperiod on the re-attachment process were studied. Four different temperatures (16, 18, 20, 22 °C) and four different photoperiods (6:18, 12:12, 14:10, 16:8) were used and the results obtained in the thalli responses such as apical growth (measured as elongation of principal apex), rhizoidal cluster production and number of necrotic patches were tested.During the re-attachment process, the best results were obtained at temperatures of 16–18 °C, when rhizoidal cluster production was high and necrotic patch development was low (18 °C) or absent (16 °C). Temperatures of 20 and 22 °C favoured high rhizoidal cluster production, but also a high production of necrotic patches that finally led to death. The results suggest that long-day photoperiods (14:10, 16:8) produce a higher number of rhizoidal cluster bands than short-day photoperiods (6:18) at the same temperature. 相似文献

The occurrence of the carpet weed Galenia secunda (L. fil.) Sond. (Aizoaceae) has been reported in Southern Spain. G. secunda is a prostrate perennial species native to South Africa. In this paper, the current distribution of G. secunda and the main habitats invaded in Southern Spain, are reported. The distribution survey revealed an area of occupancy of 92 ha
and an extent of occurrence of 14,250 ha for this species, thus suggesting an early stage of invasion. Since the first citation
of this species in Spain (1965), our current data (2007) support a rapid spread and invasiveness of G. secunda as a result of an intense rate of coastal development. G. secunda was more often found near roads, because roads facilitate seed dispersal. G. secunda also appeared in other coastal natural habitats such as sand dunes, where G. secunda forms dense monospecific mats. Studies on its invasion potential and impacts in natural habitats are recommended and control
measures should be developed to prevent future expansion. 相似文献

We investigated the interaction between two invasive invertebrate species in a shallow Central European flooded sandpit: the
epibiosis of Ponto-Caspian zebra mussels Dreissena polymorpha on the American crayfish Orconectes limosus. Between 2004 and 2005, we followed the seasonal variation in number and size of the mussels attached to crayfish bodies,
and microhabitats preferred by mussels. The proportion of crayfish colonised by mussels varied seasonally: in spring and early
summer it was consistently over 75%, afterwards it dropped temporarily due to loss of bivalves during the crayfish moult,
and later increased again due to re-colonisation by often relatively large juvenile mussels. Three different pathways of mussel
settlement on crayfish hosts are likely: (1) primary settlement of free-swimming pediveliger larvae; (2) secondary settlement
of plantigrade mussels and juveniles; (3) active re-attachment of grown mussels from the substrate to crayfish. This epibiosis
was promoted by lack of suitable substrates at the studied locality.

We developed nine new microsatellite markers for the white mangrove (Laguncularia racemosa C.F. Gaertn.), a mangrove species widely distributed in the Western Hemisphere. The loci were developed from a sample collected
in Baja California Sur, Mexico, and were screened for polymorphism in 108 individuals from the Pacific Coast of Mexico and
Costa Rica. The level of polymorphism was relatively low, from two to four alleles. These are the first set of polymorphic
markers described for L. racemosa and should be of value in studying regional genetic differentiation among natural populations of this species. 相似文献

Hippophae rhamnoides ssp. sinensis
is endemic to China, and it is a dioecious, outcrossing plant. Although many studies have been undertaken mainly on its agricultural, nutritional, medical, and ornamental value, little is known about its population genetics. This study uses random amplified polymorphic DNA to investigate the genetic diversity and population genetic structure of 13 natural populations of the subspecies
sinensis. Fifteen primers amplified 107 reproducible bands, with 95 (88.79%) being polymorphic. The gene diversity within population was 0.168, considerably lower than that of tree species and most perennial, outcrossing species, but higher than that of annual or short-lived, selfing species. The Gst value showed that 18.3% of the total genetic variation resided among populations, a little lower than that of outcrossing species. The present results are quite similar to those previously reported in another subspecies,
H ssp. . rhamnoides
rhamnoides. The low genetic differentiation among populations in ssp. sinensis
may be attributed to the long-distance dispersal of seeds facilitated by birds, in addition to its characteristics of outcrossing, wind pollination, and widespread distribution. No association between genetic distance and geographical distribution was found. The population relationships revealed by the UPGMA dendrogram parallel this result, in that genetic distance did not increase with geographic separation. This pattern of population differentiation may imply the adaptation of ssp.
s populations to the local environment, given that its habitats vary greatly across its distribution. 相似文献

The immunological comparison of the seed reserve proteins suggests thatLupinus is a natural genus, the American and the Euro-African species belonging to the same stock. Among the Lupines of the Old World, the smooth-seeded and the rough-seeded species from two natural segregates. The genusLupinus is serologically related to the rest of theGenisteae and to the AsiaticSophoreae rather than to AmericanSophoreae andThermopsideae. The data suggest thatLupinus may have originated with the remainder of theGenisteae from primitiveSophoreae of temperate-subtropical Asia. America and the Mediterranean-African region are regarded as secondary centres of speciation. 相似文献

Prostrate ecotypes ofUlex gallii, an atlantic species with autumnal flowering, grow on capes in Brittany (France).U. europaeus, a widespread species, has winter and spring flowering, but some plants can precociously flower in autumn, so that hybridization can be possible between these two species in areas where their ranges overlap. By using different isoenzyme systems and crossed immunoelectrophoresis obtained with seed proteins, it is possible to consider plants with intermediate morphological characters betweenU. gallii andU. europaeus as natural hybrids. 相似文献

Oomycetes from the genus Phytophthora are fungus-like plant pathogens that are devastating for agriculture and natural ecosystems. Due to their particular physiological characteristics, no efficient treatments against diseases caused by these microorganisms are presently available. To develop such treatments, it appears essential to dissect the molecular mechanisms that determine the interaction between Phytophthora species and host plants. Available data are scarce, and genomic approaches were mainly developed for the two species, Phytophthora infestans and Phytophthora sojae. However, these two species are exceptions from, rather than representative species for, the genus. P. infestans is a foliar pathogen, and P. sojae infects a narrow range of host plants, while the majority of Phytophthora species are quite unselective, root-infecting pathogens. To represent this majority, Phytophthora parasitica emerges as a model for the genus, and genomic resources for analyzing its interaction with plants are developing. The aim of this review is to assemble current knowledge on cytological and molecular processes that are underlying plant–pathogen interactions involving Phytophthora species and in particular P. parasitica, and to place them into the context of a hypothetical scheme of co-evolution between the pathogen and the host. 相似文献

Summary Restriction fragment analysis and heterologous hybridization of chloroplast (cp) DNA was used to develop species-specific markers for P. tabulaeformis, P. yunnanensis and P. massoniana. Fragment patterns created by the BclI and DraI restriction enzymes and hybridization patterns to the psbC and psbD probes were distinctive among the three species. No intraspecific variation was detected with respect to any of the cpDNA markers developed in this study. The cpDNA markers obtained were subsequently used to examine the parentage of P. densata, a putative Tertiary hybrid between P. tabulaeformis and P. yunnanensis. The analysis demonstrated for the first time that P. densata populations accommodate chloroplast genomes of P. tabulaeformis and P. yunnanensis, which strongly supports earlier suggestions of the hybrid origin of this species. It appears that P. densata represents a stabilized natural hybrid that has become adapted to high mountain environments where neither of the parental species can normally grow. 相似文献

Seven populations of Hordelymus europaeus and four populations of Leymus arenarius from Poland were subjected to examination of 36 morphological characters. This study showed that both species are relatively
uniform and that morphological variation of their populations represents a continuum. Of those, three populations of either
species were selected for analysis with molecular markers – RAPDs and AFLPs. These populations differed with respect of geographical
location as well as syntaxa and habitat. RAPD-PCR was performed for individual plants and clearly grouped them according to
the population origin. For either H. europaeus or L. arenarius - the studied populations differed in degree of their intrinsic variation while none of them as a whole was significantly
different from the remaining ones. In AFLP analysis the studied populations were represented by DNA pools of several individual
plants. Also this approach allowed discrimination among the population samples of both H. europaeus and L. arenarius. Both RAPDs and AFLPs were accordant in indication that H. europaeus exceeds L. arenarius with respect to variation accumulated at the DNA level.

Summary
Chamaecrista sect. Absus subsect. Baseophyllum (Leguminosae–Caesalpinioideae) includes eight species with geographic distribution concentrated in the Cadeia do Espinha?o
mountain range of the States of Bahia and Minas Gerais, in eastern Brazil. During the taxonomic revision of this group, individuals
were encountered with intermediate morphology between three sympatric species. Allozyme and multivariate morphometric analyses
were carried out to investigate the occurrence of hybridization between these species in four populations and 14 suspected
hybrid individuals between C. confertiformis and C. depauperata and between C. blanchetii and C. confertiformis. The results of both analyses support the occurrence of natural hybridization between them, and that all the individuals
with intermediate morphology are probably F1 hybrids. The hybrids are formally described as C. × blanchetiformis and C. ×patyensis. 相似文献

We studied the floral and pollination biology of Amomum maximum. Our observations suggest that flexistyly is present in this species, and stigmatic behavior is similar as reported for Alpinia species. Two phenotypes occur in a ratio of 1:1 in natural populations. No fruit set occurred in the unpollinated bagged
plants. Significant differences in seed set between selfing and crossing manipulations demonstrate that inbreeding depression
or partial self-incompatibility is apparent in this species. Despite the resemblance in floral behavior, there are still some
differences between the previous studies and ours: with special floral design, the body size of legitimate visitors ranged
wider in Amomum maximum than in Alpinia species; the presence of anther appendage is suggested to prevent competing and delayed selfing. This is the first report
of flexistyly in a wild cardamom species, which is the second largest group in ginger family (Zingiberaceae). 相似文献

Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) and Thrips tabaci Lindeman (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) are major pests of sweet pepper for direct damage and tospovirus transmission. To control their infestations, Orius laevigatus (Fieber) (Heteroptera: Anthocoridae) is produced by many commercial insectaries and widely used on IPM vegetable crops of Europe. This predator is naturally widespread along the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts, and not in more continental areas, where other Orius spp. are more common. Research was conducted in a continental area of Northwest Italy in 2002–2003 to assess the natural presence of anthocorids on pepper, and to compare their colonization and predatory ability with those of the species artificially introduced. Experiments were conducted in 12 sweet pepper greenhouses, in six of which O. laevigatus release was made. From late May to early October, thrips and anthocorids were sampled on pepper by collecting flowers; Orius spp. were also collected on neighboring wild flora. Independently of the releases, Orius specimens were found in all surveyed greenhouses, but O. niger Wolff, also captured on various wild plants, was the most abundant species. It naturally colonized crops from late June and proved to be the most efficient predator on sweet pepper in the surveyed area, if not disturbed by pesticide application. Contrarily, O. laevigatus was rarely found and only in the greenhouses in which it had been released. However its introduction resulted in thrips control before natural colonization by the native species occurred. 相似文献

Sexual difference and pollination system inHonkenya peploides var.major were investigated. The present analyses indicate that sex expression of this plant is functionally dioecious, rather than
androdioecious, as described previously. Its flowers are largely pollinated by small bees, hover-flies, flies, and ants. Female
flowers were morphologically characterized by conspicuously longer styles and smaller petals, and had no pollen grains, while
male flowers had shorter styles, larger petals, and longer filaments, and produced viable pollen grains. Although the male
flowers possess many ovules in an ovary, they set fruits at a very low frequency in natural conditions and did not produce
fruits by pollination experiments. We suggest that the dioecy of this species has been derived from hermaphrodite through
gynodioecy, and not directly from hermaphrodite. 相似文献

Scirtothrips perseae Nakahara was discovered attacking avocados in California, USA, in 1996. Host plant surveys in California indicated that S. perseae has a highly restricted host range with larvae being found only on avocados, while adults were collected from 11 different plant species. As part of a management program for this pest, a “classical” biological control program was initiated and foreign exploration was conducted to delineate the home range of S. perseae, to survey for associated natural enemies and inventory other species of phytophagous thrips on avocados grown in Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Trinidad, and Brazil. Foreign exploration efforts indicate that S. perseae occurs on avocados grown at high altitudes (>1500 m) from Uruapan in Mexico south to areas around Guatemala City in Guatemala. In Costa Rica, S. perseae is replaced by an undescribed congener as the dominant phytophagous thrips on avocados grown at high altitudes (>1300 m). No species of Scirtothrips were found on avocados in the Dominican Republic, Trinidad, or Brazil. In total, 2136 phytophagous thrips were collected and identified, representing over 47 identified species from at least 19 genera. The significance of these species records is discussed. Of collected material 4% were potential thrips biological control agents. Natural enemies were dominated by six genera of predatory thrips (Aeolothrips, Aleurodothrips, Franklinothrips, Leptothrips, Scolothrips, and Karnyothrips). One genus each of parasitoid (Ceranisus) and predatory mite (Balaustium) were found. Based on the results of our sampling techniques, prospects for the importation of thrips natural enemies for use in a “classical” biological control program in California against S. perseae are not promising. 相似文献

Juniperus przewalskii (Cupressaceae) is a dominant tree species endemic to the northeast Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. This species plays an important
role in maintaining the arid ecosystem in this region. However, natural distributions of this species have been declined.
In order to develop effective conservation methods, it is important to know the distribution of the genetic diversity within
and among populations. In this study, we developed nine new microsatellite loci for this species. We used the combining biotin
capture method to enrich AG/CT/AC/GGT microsatellites. The polymorphisms of each locus were further assessed in 12 individuals
from four geographically distant populations. The number of alleles per locus varied from three to six and expected heterozygosity
ranged from 0.58 to 0.70. These loci together provide a useful tool to investigate the genetic diversity of this species.
In addition, all markers have been crossly checked in the other four congeneric species. 相似文献

Summary Characterization of sequences homologous to theDrosophila melanogaster gypsy transposable element was carried out inDrosophila subobscura (gypsyDS). They were found to be widely distributed among natural populations of this species. From Southern blot and in situ analyses, these sequences appear to be mobile in this species.GypsyDS sequences are located in both euchromatic and heterochromatic regions. A completegypsyDS sequence was isolated from aD. subobscura genomic library, and a 1.3-kb fragment which aligns with the ORF2 of theD. melanogaster gypsy element was sequenced. Comparisons of this sequence in three species (D. subobscura, D. melanogaster, and D. virilis) indicate that there is greater similarity between theD. subobscura-D. virilis sequences than betweenD. subobscura andD. melanogaster. Molecular divergence ofgypsy sequences betweenD. virilis andD. subobscura is estimated at 16 MY, whereas the most likely divergence time of these two species is more than 60 MY. These data strongly suggest thatgypsy sequences have been horizontally transferred between these species.Offprint requests to: T.M. Alberola 相似文献
