The cadmium (Cd) tolerance and metal-accumulation characteristics of 29 species (18 families) of weed were studied by using outdoor pot-culture experiments. The results of this screening showed that Bidens pilosa and Kalimeris integrifolia (both Asteraceae) expressed some properties that are characteristic of Cd hyperaccumulators. In 10 mg/kg Cd-spiked soil, they accumulated a good deal of Cd in shoots (28 and 25 mg/kg DW, respectively) with high Cd enrichment factors (EFs; concentration in plant/soil). Cd accumulations in shoots were greater than those in roots (translocation factor (TF) >1, concentration in shoot/root) and the shoot biomasses did not decreased significantly compared to the unspiked control. The other weed species showed little accumulation of Cd, Pb, Cu, or Zn. In a concentration-gradient experiment, the Cd accumulation potentials of B. pilosa and K. integrifolia were examined further. Cd concentrations in leaves of B. pilosa growing in soils spiked with 25, 50, and 100 mg/kg Cd were up to 145, 160, and 192 mg/kg, respectively, and the Cd content in stems in the 100 mg/kg Cd-spiked soil was 115 mg/kg, all greater than the 100 mg/kg notional criterion for Cd hyperaccumulation. The Cd EFs and TFs were all greater than 1. The shoot biomasses did not decrease significantly compared to the controls. B. pilosa was thus shown to have some characteristics of a true Cd hyperaccumulator plant.  相似文献

The possibility of remediating contaminated soils though the use of high biomass-generating, native plant species capable of removing heavy metals is receiving increased attention. The cadmium (Cd) accumulation capacities of the native Mediterranean, perennial shrubs Atriplex halimus, Phyllirea angustifolia, Rhamnus alaternus and Rosmarinus officinalis were tested by growing transplanted specimens in a pine bark compost substrate (pH 5.6) contaminated with 100 mg Cd kg(-1). After 70 days, only R. alaternus showed reduced growth. The increase in biomass seen in all the test species enhanced the phytoextraction of Cd. However, the species behaved as metal excluders, except for the halophyte A. halimus, which behaved as an indicator plant. In this species the leaf Cd concentration reached 35 mg Cd kg(-1), with the shoot responsible for some 86% of total Cd accumulation. Atriplex halimus showed the highest bioconcentration factor (BCF) (0.36) and leaf Cd transport index (1.68); consequently, this species showed the highest Cd phytoextraction capacity.  相似文献

Significant cadmium (Cd) contamination In soil and rice has been discovered in Mae Sot, Tak province, Thailand where the rice-based agricultural systems are established in the vicinity of a zinc mine. The prolonged consumption of Cd contaminated rice has potential risks to public health and health impacts of Cd exposed populations in Mae Sot have been demonstrated. The Thai government has prohibited rice cultivation in the area as an effort to prevent further exposure. Phytoextraction, the use of plants to remove contaminants from soil, is a potential option to manage Cd–contaminated areas. However, successful phytoextraction depends on first identifying effective hyperaccumulator plants appropriate for local climatic conditions. Five sampling sites at Padaeng Zinc mine, Tak province were selected to collect plant and soil samples. Total Cd and Zn concentrations in sediments or soils were approximately 596 and 20,673 mg kg?1 in tailing pond area, 543 and 20,272 mg kg?1 in open pit area, 894 and 31,319 mg kg?1 in stockpile area, 1,458 and 57,012 mg kg?1 in forest area and 64 and 2,733 mg kg?1 in Cd contaminated rice field. Among a total of 36 plant species from 16 families, four species (Chromolaena odoratum, Gynura pseudochina, Impatiens violaeflora and Justicia procumbens) could be considered as Cd hyperaccumulators since their shoot Cd concentrations exceeded 100 mg Cd kg?1 dry mass and they showed a translocation factor > 1. Only Justicia procumbens could be considered as a Zn hyperaccumulator (Zn concentration in its shoot more than 10,000 mg Zn kg?1 dry mass with the translocation factor > 1).  相似文献

A pot experiment and afield trial were conducted to study the remediation of an aged field soil contaminated with cadmium, copper and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) (7.67 +/- 0.51 mg kg(-1) Cd, 369 +/- 1 mg kg(-1) Cu in pot experiment; 8.46 +/- 0.31 mg kg(-1) Cd, 468 +/- 7 mg kg(-1) Cu, 323 +/- 12 microg kg(-1) PCBs for field experiment) under different cropping patterns. In the pot experiment Sedum plumbizincicola showed pronounced Cd phytoextraction. After two periods (14 months) of cropping the Cd removal rates in these two treatments were 52.2 +/- 12.0 and 56.1 +/- 9.1%, respectively. Total soil PCBs in unplanted control pots decreased from 323 +/- 11 to 49.3 +/- 6.6 microg kg(-1), but with no significant difference between treatments. The field microcosm experiment intercropping of three plant species reduced the yield of S. plumbizincicola, with a consequent decrease in soil Cd removal. S. plumbizincicola intercropped with E. splendens had the highest shoot Cd uptake (18.5 +/- 1.8 mg pot(-1)) after 6 months planting followed by intercropping with M. sativa (15.9 +/- 1.9 mg pot(-1)). Liming with S. plumbizincicola intercropped with M. sativa significantly promoted soil PCB degradation by 25.2%. Thus, adjustment of soil pH to 5.56 combined with intercropping with S. plumbizincicola and M. sativagave high removal rates of Cd, Cu, and PCBs.  相似文献

* We examined phenotypic plasticity of fitness components in response to zinc (Zn) in the Zn hyperaccumulator, Thlaspi caerulescens. * Two populations from Zn-enriched soils (M) and two populations from normal soils (NM) were grown in pots at three Zn concentrations (0, 1000 and 8000 mg kg(-1) Zn), for an entire life cycle. Growth, Zn accumulation and fitness components were assessed. * Based on vegetative growth, M and NM populations had similar Zn tolerance at 1000 mg kg(-1) Zn. However, reproductive output was markedly decreased in NM at 1000 and 8000 mg kg(-1) Zn. In M populations, Zn did not affect fitness. However, low Zn status enhanced reproductive output in year 1 compared with year 2 and decreased survival after the first flowering season. * M populations are able to achieve equal fitness across a broad range of Zn concentrations in soil by different combinations of fecundity and longevity. No cost of higher tolerance was demonstrated in M populations. Reproductive traits appeared to be a more sensitive indicator of tolerance than vegetative growth.  相似文献

Plants growing on metalliferous soils from abandoned mines are unique because of their ability to cope with high metal levels in soil. In this study, we characterized plants and soils from an abandoned Pb-Zn mine in the Basque Country (northern Spain). Soil in this area proved to be deficient in major macronutrients and to contain toxic levels of Cd, Pb, and Zn. Spontaneously growing native plants (belonging to 31 species, 28 genera, and 15 families) were botanically identified. Plant shoots and rhizosphere soil were sampled at several sites in the mine, and analyzed for Pb, Zn and Cd concentration. Zinc showed the highest concentrations in shoots, followed by Pb and Cd. Highest Zn concentrations in shoots were found in the Zn-Cd hyperaccumulator Thlaspi caerulescens (mean = 18,254 mg Zn kg(-1) DW). Different metal tolerance and accumulation patterns were observed among the studied plant species, thus offering a wide germplasm assortment for the suitable selection of phytoremediation technologies. This study highlights the importance of preserving metalliferous environments as they shelter a unique and highly valuable metallicolous biodiversity.  相似文献

A pot experiment was conducted for three vegetation periods on a sandy soil (pH 7.5) to study the uptake and distribution of Cd in plant tissues of Calamagrostis epigejos (L.) Roth. Cadmium was applied as CdCl2 (a total of 11 solution of 0, 20. 100, and 200 mg Cd l(-1)). HNO3- and water-extractable concentrations of Cd in 2- and 20-cm soil depths were correlated with the applied Cd showing that Cd was very mobile in the soil. The uptake of Cd from soil by Calamagrostis epigejos was directly related to the total soil Cd content and to the water-soluble pool of Cd. The concentrations of Cd in plant tissues (roots, rhizomes, leaves) and litter increased with increased applied Cd. Most of the Cd that was taken up was accumulated in roots (range from 1.88+/-0.42 to 40.96+/-16.71 mg kg(-1) dry mass), followed by rhizomes (0.52+/-0.13 to 25.70+/-6.35 mg kg(-1)) and leaves (0.30+/-0.06 to 9.20+/-1.93 mg kg(-1)). Cd concentrations of the litter were about twofold greater than the concentrations in the leaves (0.67+/-0.07 to 18.98+/-7.00 mg kg(-1)). The bioaccumulation factor (leaf/soil concentration ratio) increased significantly from 0.70+/-0.10 (control) to 1.1+/-0.17 (100 mg Cd l(-1)), but decreased again at the highest Cd level (200 mg Cd l(-1)) toward 0.74+/-0.34, which was not significantly different from the control. The low transfer of Cd from soil to above-ground organs at higher soil Cd concentrations indicates an exclusion mechanism. The leaf/root Cd concentration ratio (translocation factor) shows no significant relationship to increasing soil contamination. Only 4-7% of the total plant Cd was accumulated in the above-ground tissues. The phytoextraction potential (total Cd removed from soil) within three growing seasons ranged from 0.11 to 0.25% of the total soil Cd. Total output in above-ground living and dead plant material of C. epigejos would be approximately 20 g ha(-1) a(-1) for the lowest contamination level (+20 mg Cd per pot) and approximately 275 g ha(-1) a(-1) for the highest contamination level (+200 mg Cd per pot). This is within the range where an application for phytoextraction of Cd has been suggested by other authors. However, we conclude that the practical use of C. epigejos for phytoremediation is not mainly in the field of phytoextraction, but phytostabilization. C. epigejos has the capability to structurally stabilize the soil and reduce Cd contamination spread due to erosion. The uptake of the available Cd pool and accumulation in below-ground biomass may further prevent leaching into ground water.  相似文献

龙须草对镉的耐受性和富集特征   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Liu AZ  Zou DS  Liu F 《

The aim of this work was to study, in a rhizobox experiment, the phytoextraction of metals by the hyperaccumulator plant Thlaspi caerulescens in relation to the heterogeneity of metal pollution. Six treatments were designed with soils containing various levels of metals. Homogeneous soils and inclusions of soils in other soil matrices were prepared in order to vary metal concentration and localization. Growth parameters of the plant (rosette diameter and shoot biomass) and localization of roots and shoot uptake of Zn, Cd, Ca, and Mg were determined after 10 weeks of growth. The plants grown on the polluted industrial soils provided a larger biomass and had lower mortality rates than those grown on the agricultural soil. Moreover, these plants accumulated more Zn and Cd (up to 17,516 and 375 mg kg(-1) DM, respectively) than plants grown on the agricultural soil (up to 7300 mg Zn kg(-1) and 83 mg Cd kg(-1) DM). The roots preferentially explored metal-contaminated areas. The exploration of polluted soil inclusions by the roots was associated with a higher extraction of metals. Zinc and Cd in the shoots of Thlaspi caerulescens were negatively correlated with Ca and Mg concentrations; however, the soil supply for these two elements was identical. This suggests that there is competition for the uptake of these elements and that Zn is preferentially accumulated.  相似文献

To evaluate the production potential and Cd removal by three flower crops, viz.: marigold (Tagetes erecta), chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum indicum) and gladiolus (Gladiolus grandiflorus), an experiment was conducted on differentially contaminated soils (DTPA-Cd 0.6-68.4 mg kg(-1)). Biotoxicity of Cd lead to reductions in growth and flower yield of marigold at DTPA-Cd >or= 7.9 mg kg(-1) soil, while the productivity of chrysanthemum and gladiolus was sustained up to 21.2 mg kg(-1). DTPA-Cd for 50% yield reduction (C(50)) was 85, 106 and 215 mg kg(-1) soil for marigold, chrysanthemum and gladiolus, respectively, that indicates a better Cd-tolerance in gladiolus. The uptake of Cd increased with contents in soils and the maximum accumulation occurred in leaves. Among the economic parts, gladiolus spikes accumulated the highest Cd (7.2) followed by flowers of marigold (6.5) and chrysanthemum (4.0 mg kg(-1)). But, because of higher biomass, the total Cd removal was the maximum with chrysanthemum (8.3) followed by gladiolus (6.0) and the minimum (2.6 mg m(-2)) with marigold. Gladiolus with highest tolerance and Cd-content in saleable part holds potential to clean up the moderately contaminated soils.  相似文献

Impatiens walleriana plants accumulate sufficiently high concentrations of cadmium (Cd) for this species to be considered a potential Cd hyperaccumulator. Rooted cuttings were grown hydroponically for 25 and 50 days in solutions spiked with various Cd concentrations. The subcellular distribution and chemical forms of Cd in different organs were analyzed, and its upward translocation was also assessed. The plants accumulated large amounts of Cd; the Cd concentration in the roots and shoots reached 120–1900 and 60–1600 mg/kg, respectively. Regardless of the growth period, the Cd accumulated in the roots was primarily compartmentalized in the soluble fraction or ethanol and deionized water extractable chemical forms with high migration abilities. Translocation to the shoots was followed by an association of Cd mainly in the cell wall or with pectate and protein. The roots’ Cd showed a high migration capacity for predicting the shoots’ Cd concentrations. Different exposure periods significantly affected the subcellular distribution of Cd in the stems, and thus the upward translocation.  相似文献

Zinc hyperaccumulation and uptake by Potentilla griffithii Hook   总被引:8,自引:0,他引:8
The ability of Potentilla griffithii Hook var. velutina Cardot to hypaeraccumulate zinc (Zn) was identified through field survey and hydroponic experiments. Our results showed that P. griffithii could be classified as a new Zn hyperaccumulator. Zn concentrations in the shoots of P. griffithii averaged 6250 mg kg(-1) (3870-8530 mg kg(-1)) growing in Zn-rich soils. The highest Zn concentration was observed in the leaves of P. griffithii at 22,990 mg kg(-1). The fact that P. griffithii was able to grow in a mining soil with a Zn concentration of 193,000 mg kg(-1) without showing a major sign of phytotoxicity demonstrated its high tolerance to Zn. When growing in hydroponic systems, P. griffithii accumulated a maximum 26700 mg kg(-1) zinc concentration in the shoots, indicating the ability of this species to effectively take up and translocate Zn. Translocation factors (the ratio of Zn concentration in shoot to root) of 1.1 to 1.6 were obtained. Compared to the control, dry biomass of P. griffithii in 160 mg L(-1) Zn treatment increased 66.6% (P < 0.05). The time-course experiment showed that the maximum Zn concentration at 100 mg L(-1) Zn treatment was found at 16 d, much later than that of the 10 mg L(-1) Zn treatment, which might be an attribution of a accumulating mechanism or detoxification of a plant. The report of a new Zn hyperaccumulator provides a new plant species for the phytoremediation of contaminated soil and for the research on mechanisms of Zn hyperaccumulation in plants.  相似文献

To test the possibility that using appropriate rootstocks could improve the tolerance of watermelon to cadmium (Cd) toxicity, a greenhouse experiment was conducted to determine growth and antioxidant activities of watermelons, either nongrafted or grafted onto summer squash and winter squash. We provided nutrient solutions having four levels (0, 50, 100, and 200 μM) of cadmium to treat the plants. Shoot and root biomass reduction were significantly lower in summer squash rootstock-grafted watermelon than winter squash rootstock-grafted and nongrafted watermelons. Cadmium induced a smaller decrease in leaf area index in grafted watermelons compared with nongrafted plants. The Cd- related reductions in chlorophyll content and efficiency of photosynthesis were more severe in nongrafted watermelons compared with dose grafted onto summer squash. Cd accumulation in shoot at the highest dose (200 µM) of CdCl2 was significantly lower (19.76 mg/kg) in summer squash rootstock-grafted watermelon compared with winter squash rootstock-grafted (37.58 mg/kg) and nongrafted watermelon (72.12 mg/kg). H2O2, MDA production and electrolyte leakage of summer squash rootstock-grafted watermelon showed less increase, which was associated with a significant increase in the activities of antioxidant. The improved crop performance of grafted watermelons was attributed to their strong capacity to inhibit Cd accumulation in the aerial parts.  相似文献

Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla L.) is a widely used medicinal plant but may also accumulate metals including cadmium. Because recent paper (Masarovi?ová et al. 2010 Acta Physiol Plant 32:823–829) contradicts previous results of our research group and suggested Cd “hyper/accumulation” in chamomile, present study examined Cd uptake in a long-term experiment (7 weeks) using low Cd concentration (1.5 μM). Besides, typical Cd hyperaccumulator Thlaspi caerulescens and Ni hyperaccumulator Thlaspi goesingense were also cultured under identical conditions. Data obtained indicate that shoot Cd content and bioaccumulation factor (BAF) in chamomile was ca. 5–10 times lower than that in Thlaspi. In this view, chamomile is not a hyperaccumulator species. Comparison of shoot Cd content, BAF and translocation factor (TF) in selected crops is also provided.  相似文献

This paper aims to develop our understanding of the effect of cadmium (Cd) on Impatiens glandulifera, a recently identified potential Cd hyperaccumulator. Impatiens glandulifera plants were exposed to three concentrations of Cd (20, 60 and 90 mg/kg) and were sampled at two timepoints (one and seven days) to investigate the stress response of I. glandulifera to Cd. Cd can induce oxidative stress in plants, triggering overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The level of activity of catalase (CAT) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX), two crucial antioxidant enzymes responsible for detoxifying ROS, were found to increase in a concentration dependent manner. Though there was no change observed in the level of superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, the activity of glutathione S-transferase (GST), involved in detoxifying and sequestering Cd, increased after exposure to Cd. Cd did not appear to impact the levels of proline and photosynthetic pigments, indicating the plants weren't stressed by the presence of Cd. These results suggest that the rapid response observed in enzyme activity aid the efficacious mitigation of the toxic effects of Cd, preventing significant physiological stress in I. glandulifera.  相似文献

A greenhouse experiment using 24 plastic pots filled with 6 kg of Pb- and Cd-contaminated soil was carried out. In all 24 pots, soils were heavy metal–contaminated with 10 mg Cd kg?1 soil and 500 mg of Pb kg?1 soil by using CdCl and PbNO3. Two-month-old tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) plants were used to extract these heavy metals. Results showed that tobacco is able to remove Cd and Pb from contaminated soils and concentrate them in its harvestable part, that is, it could be very useful in phytoextraction of these heavy metals. Increasing additions of ammonium nitrate to soil (50, 100, and 150 mg N kg?1 soil) significantly (p ≤ .05) increased aboveground Cd and Pb accumulation during a 50-day experimental period, whereas increasing additions of urea to soil (50 and 100 mg N kg?1 soil) did not show these effects at the same significance levels. Increasing additions of ammonium nitrate to soil shows as dry matter increases, both accumulated Cd and accumulated Pb also increase when tobacco plants are growing under Pb- and Cd-contaminated soil conditions. Higher Pb concentrations depress Cd/Pb ratios for concentrations and accumulations, suggesting that Pb negatively affects Cd concentration and/or accumulation.  相似文献

Atlantic salmon parr were reared for 4 months on experimental diets supplemented with 0 (control), 0.5, 5, 25, 125, or 250 mg Cd x kg(-1) feed to establish a threshold concentration for dietary cadmium exposure by assessing early adaptive cellular responses. At the end of the experiment, the lowest dietary Cd concentration that caused significant accumulation in the gut, kidney and muscle was 5 mg Cd x kg(-1) compared to the control group. Over time, dietary Cd accumulated first in the gut (after 1 month), followed by the kidney (2 months), and later by muscle (4 months). Highest Cd accumulation (100-fold) was found in the gut. A significant increase in regulated cell death and proliferation in salmon fed 125 mg Cd x kg(-1) compared to control fish appeared efficient in preventing gross histopathological damage in the intestine. The highest increase in metallothionein levels was found in the kidney, and metallothionein (MT) levels increased disproportionally to Cd accumulation at increased exposure concentrations. It was concluded that MT was not directly associated with long-term Cd accumulation. Atlantic salmon showed increased metallothionein levels in the kidney at a median effective concentration (concentration of dietary Cd giving 50% of the maximum increase in metallothionein, EC50) of 7 mg Cd x kg(-1), indicating toxic exposure at this concentration.  相似文献

Growth, cadmium accumulation and potassium and calcium status were studied in two halophytes from Aizoaceae family: Sesuvium portulacastrum and Mesembryanthemum crystallinum. After multiplication, the seedlings were cultivated on nutrient solution supplemented with NaCl (100mM) and CdCl2 (0, 50, 100, 200 and 300 microM). After 1 month of treatment, plants were harvested and the dry weight, as well as the Cd, K and Ca concentrations in tissues were determined. Results showed that S. portulacastrum, a perennial halophyte with slow growth, is significantly more tolerant to Cd than M. crystallinum, an annual plant. Cd severely inhibited Mesembryanthemum growth even at the lowest Cd concentration in culture medium (50 microM), and did not modify significantly that of Sesuvium. For both halophytes, Cd accumulation was significantly higher in the roots than in the shoots. However, Cd concentration reached 350-700 microg g(-1) DM in the shoots, values characteristic of Cd hyperaccumulator plants. The addition of Cd in the culture medium led to a disturbance of Ca and especially K nutrition, suggesting the possibility to improve plant growth and Cd phytoextraction of both halophytes by increasing nutrient availability in the culture medium.  相似文献
