This study experimented with common restoration techniques (scarification, soil amendments, mulch, and seeding) on six closed wilderness campsites in subalpine forests in Oregon. Effectiveness in encouraging seedling establishment, growth, and survival was assessed every year for the first 7 years following treatment. Closure and restoration of the campsites increased the density of plants established from seed. Despite an original density of virtually zero, mean density of perennial plants was 55 plants/m2 7 years after closure. All the treatments, with the exception of the biodegradable mulch mat, increased plant density. Seven years after treatment, seeding had increased plant density 5‐fold, whereas scarification and soil amendments (organic matter, compost, and soil inoculum) had each increased density 3‐fold. The organic and compost amendments also had the positive benefit of increasing growth rates and shortening the time‐to‐reproductive maturity. Results suggest that restoration of the herbaceous cover on these campsites can occur rapidly using the techniques employed. All but one of the species we seeded established in substantial quantities and survived at densities exceeding their density in the naturally sparse herbaceous cover on these sites. Thirty‐six perennial species volunteered on these sites. The remaining challenge is reestablishment of the shrub species that comprise much of the ground cover in these forests. Using a soil bioassay technique, seedling growth and incidence of disease of wild mustard (Brassica kaber) and sweet corn (Zea mays) were assessed in soil from field plots that received either of two treatments: incorporated red clover (Trifolium pratense) residue plus application of compost (`amended soil'), or application of ammonium nitrate fertilizer (`unamended soil'). Soils were analyzed for percent moisture, dissolved organic carbon, conductivity, phenolics, and nutrient content. A trend toward greater incidence of Pythium spp. infection of wild mustard seedlings grown in amended soil was observed during the first 40 days after incorporation (DAI) of red clover and compost, with significant differences ( = 0.05) at two out of four sampling dates in 1997, and four out of four sampling dates in 1998. Incidence of Pythium infection was 10–70% greater in the amended soil treatment during that period. Asymptomatic wild mustard seedlings grown in amended soil were also on average 2.5 cm shorter ( = 0.05) at 5 DAI than those grown in unamended soil in one year out of two. Concentration of phenolic compounds in soil solution was weakly correlated with decreased shoot and root growth (r = 0.50, 0.28, respectively) and increased incidence of disease (r = 0.48) in wild mustard seedlings in one year out of two. Dissolved organic carbon concentration was weakly correlated with increased disease in wild mustard seedlings in both years (r = 0.51, 0.33, respectively). Growth of corn seedlings did not differ between the two soil treatments, suggesting that red clover green manure and compost may selectively reduce density and competitive ability of wild mustard in the field. Bioassay results corresponded well with emergence and shoot weight results from a related field study, indicating that this technique may be useful for screening potential soil treatments prior to field studies.  相似文献

Multivariate analysis was used for interpreting data from a pot experiment using samples of three Spanish soils. Samples of soil fertilized with compost were compared with untreated control samples. We also compared the effect of adding the compost to soil with a controlled moisture content of 50% of its water holding capacity (WHC), and to a near-saturated soil (95% WHC). Hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) and principal component analysis (PCA) were used; they perfectly differentiated sample groups both as a function of the treatment applied and by sampling date. The compost samples were characterized by higher pH, electrical conductivity (EC), organic matter (OM) content and cation exchange capacity (CEC), together with nutrient concentrations than the control pots. The pots with a soil–compost mixture at 95% WHC presented lower values of EC, CEC, inorganic N, K, Na and B than the mixtures at 50% WHC. Multivariate methods may therefore be useful for the analysis and interpretation of a large number of data in soil research.  相似文献

The improvement of pastures by the use of a range of herbicides to eliminate grasses, and their effect on populations of the take-all fungus (Gaeumannomyces graminis vartritici=Ggt) were studied in the field (at Esperance Downs, on the south-coast of Western Australia) from 1982 to 1985. Field trials were conducted to evaluate three herbicide treatments (2,4-D amine+propyzamide; 2,4-D amine+paraquat; paraquat/ diquat) and an unsprayed control. A pot trial involving these treatments with two levels of nitrogen was undertaken to confirm treatment effects observed in the field trial. All herbicide treatments resulted in reduced grass composition of pastures, in both the year of spraying and in the second year of pasture, but reduced dry matter production in the year of spraying. In the year of spraying, however, inoculum ofGgt was reduced (P<0.1) only following the 2,4-D amine+propyzamide treatment and was greater (P<0.1) after 2,4-D amine+paraquat treatment than the unsprayed treatment. Despite reduced grass levels in the herbicide-treated plots in the second year of pasture,Ggt inoculum did not differ between treatments, nor did it after a wheat crop which followed a second year pasture. There was high correlation (P<0.001) between disease levels and dry weights of grasses in the pot trial. There was significantly less (P<0.001) grass in pots treated with herbicides compared to the unsprayed control but no difference (P>0.05) was evident between treatments. Inoculum levels were lower (P<0.05) in the treated pots than the unsprayed control with no evidence of differences among treatments (P>0.05). Nitrogen level had no effect on disease (P>0.05). All herbicide treatments tested reduced grass level and total dry matter, both in the field and in pots. Whereas in the pot trial reduced grass levels resulted in reducedGgt inoculum, in the field such a reduction occurred only with the 2,4-D amine+propyzamide treatment and only in the year of spraying. Herbicide treatments had no effect onGgt inoculum in second year of pasture or crop. Unknown soil and environmental factors in the field precluded a simple relationship between grass level in pasture and subsequent level ofGgt inoculum, and where such a relationship did occur (2,4-D amine+propyzamide treatment) it appeared to be shortlived.  相似文献

Refuse compost and sewage sludge were mixed with a loamy sand at various rates in pots and sown withBrassica chinensis, Daucus carota andLycopersicon esculentum in a glasshouse. A commercial fertilizer was also applied to the same soil for comparison. Dry matter production of the three crops and contents of Cd, Cu, Mn, Pb and Zn in the harvested tissues were determined at the end of the experiment. In general, crop yield in refuse compost treatment was improved over that in sandy soil alone, but was less than that in the sludge and fertilizer treatments. Despite the relatively high heavy metal contents of refuse compost, crops grown on compost-treated soils accumulated lower levels of metal than those grown on sludge-treated soils. This is probably due to the high pH and organic matter content of the composted refuse. Higher levels of heavy metals were found in the roots than in the aerial parts ofB. chinensis andL. esculentum, but the reverse was found inD. carota. In the edible tissue of the three crops,L. esculentum accumulated metals to a lesser extent than the other two.  相似文献

In many tropical regions, slash‐and‐burn agriculture is considered as a driver of deforestation; the forest is converted into agricultural land by cutting and burning the trees. However, the fields are abandoned after few years because of yield decrease and weed invasion. Consequently, new surfaces are regularly cleared from the primary forest. We propose a reclamation strategy for abandoned fields allowing and sustaining re‐cultivation. In the dry region of south‐western Madagascar, we tested, according to a split‐plot design, an alternative selective slash‐and‐burn cultivation technique coupled with compost amendment on 30–year‐old abandoned fields. Corn plants (Zea mays L.) were grown on four different types of soil amendments: no amendment (control), compost, ashes (as in traditional slash‐and‐burn cultivation), and compost + ashes additions. Furthermore, two tree cover treatments were applied: 0% tree cover (as in traditional slash‐and‐burn cultivation) and 50% tree cover (selective slash‐and‐burn). Both corn growth and soil fertility parameters were monitored during the growing season 2015 up to final harvest. The amendment compost + ashes strongly increased corn yield, which was multiplied by 4–5 in comparison with ashes or compost alone, reaching 1.5 t/ha compared to 0.25 and 0.35 t/ha for ashes and compost, respectively. On control plots, yield was negligible as expected on these degraded soils. Structural equation modeling evidenced that compost and ashes were complementary fertilizing pathways promoting soil fertility through positive effects on soil moisture, pH, organic matter, and microbial activity. Concerning the tree cover treatment, yield was reduced on shaded plots (50% tree cover) compared to sunny plots (0% tree cover) for all soil amendments, except ashes. To conclude, our results provide empirical evidence on the potential of recultivating tropical degraded soils with compost and ashes. This would help mitigating deforestation of the primary forest by increasing lifespan of agricultural lands.  相似文献

An experiment to study the effects of Mg nutrition on root and shoot development of the Al-sensitive sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) genotype CV323 grown in pots of sandy loam under different acid soil stress is reported. This experiment had a factorial design: four rates of liming were combined with four rates of Mg fertilization. When no Mg was added, the pH of the soil solutions (collected in ceramic cups) increased from 4.0 (unlimed) to 4.2, 4.7 and 5.9 at the increasing rates of liming. After 30 days of growth dry matter yields of the limed treatments were 40%, 115% and 199% higher than that of the unlimed treatment. Without liming and at the highest liming rate, adding Mg did not affect plant biomass significantly. At the two intermediate levels of liming, however, 11.3 mg extra Mg per kg soil increased dry matter yield to the same levels as found at the highest liming rate. Concentrations of Mg in the soil solution rose after Mg was added and fell when lime was added, but adding both Mg and lime increased Mg concentrations in the plant shoots. In plants of the limed treatments, dry matter yield was correlated closely with the Mg concentration in the shoot. This was not so in the unlimed treatment. Furthermore, in the unlimed treatments root development was inhibited, but reduced Mg uptake by the plants resulted mainly from the direct effect of Al- (or H-) ions in the soil solution rather than from impaired root development. It is concluded that Mg fertilization counteracted the interfering effects of Al- and H ions on Mg uptake.  相似文献

2013年5月至2014年6月,对干旱河谷区云南松(Pinus yunnanensis)人工林进行增加降水试验,试验设置对照(CK,0 mm m~(-2)a~(-1))、增水10%(A1,80 mm m~(-2)a~(-1))、增水20%(A2,160 mm m~(-2)a~(-1))和增水30%(A3,240 mm m~(-2)a~(-1))4个处理水平。采用LI-8100开路式土壤碳通量测量系统测定每月土壤呼吸速率。结果表明,4个处理云南松人工林土壤呼吸速率均呈明显的季节变化,7月最高,2月最低。与CK相比,A1年均土壤呼吸速率无显著性差异(P0.05),A2显著增加了12.88%(P0.05),而A3明显减少了17.71%(P0.05)。3个增水处理均提高了土壤呼吸的温度敏感性,减弱了土壤呼吸与土壤湿度的关系。与土壤温度相比,土壤湿度对土壤呼吸的影响相对较小。增水增加了湿季土壤微生物碳、氮含量,干季对微生物碳含量无影响,但明显降低了微生物氮含量。这说明,降水增加对干旱河谷区云南松人工林土壤呼吸的影响是不尽相同的,适当的增水会促进土壤呼吸,而过量的增水会抑制土壤呼吸。  相似文献

Field, laboratory and glasshouse experiments were carried out to measure effects of seed treatments with captan or thiram on growth of perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.). Field-sown captan- or thiram-treated seed gave twice as many seedlings as untreated seed. Spaced plants growing from fungicide-treated seed produced almost 6 times more dry matter 16 weeks after sowing than those from untreated seed. This effect, though diminishing with time, was still apparent more than a year after sowing. Fungicides in sterile agar growth medium were phytotoxic to seedlings at concentrations of 10μg/ml and greater. Seedlings grown from treated seeds sown from 5 to 15 mm away from developing colonies of the virulent seedling pathogenFusarium oxysporum Schlecht. were more than 4 times larger than those grown from untreated seeds. Captan-treated seed sown into pots containing field soil produced more and larger seedlings than untreated seed. Methyl bromide fumigation of the same soil also increased both number and size of seedlings. Fungicidal, rather than direct chemical effects, at early stages of seedling growth, account for increased growth of plants from fungicide-treated seed.  相似文献

石羊河下游退耕地土壤微生物变化及土壤酶活性   总被引:9,自引:0,他引:9  
采用时空替代法,对石羊河下游不同年限(1,2,3,4,5,8,15,24、31 a)退耕地土壤微生物(细菌、真菌和放线菌)数量、生物量(碳、氮和磷)及土壤酶(过氧化氢酶、蔗糖酶、脲酶和磷酸酶)活性变化及三者的相关性进行了测定和分析。结果表明,在退耕1—31 a的9个样地样方中土壤三大类微生物数量以细菌最高,放线菌次之,真菌最低。总体来看,三大土壤微生物数量的加权平均值最大值均在退耕后的前8 a。土壤微生物生物量碳在退耕初期随着退耕年限的增加而减小,退耕4 a后逐渐增大,退耕24 a期间达到了加权平均值的最大,最后趋于稳定;土壤微生物生物量氮在退耕初期随着退耕年限的增加而增加,退耕4 a加权平均值的最大值出现,随后逐渐减小的趋势,并且不同退耕年限土壤微生物生物量氮差异显著;土壤微生物生物量磷在退耕初期随着退耕年限的增加而增加,退耕8 a前后加权平均值达到最大值,随后逐渐减小,最终趋于稳定。土壤酶活性总趋势随着退耕地自然演替时间的增加呈波动式下降。不同土壤层次(0—10 cm,10—20 cm,20—30 cm及30—40 cm),土壤微生物数量、生物量及土壤酶活性随土层深度显著降低,并且表层土壤微生物生物量及土壤酶活性占有较大比例。土壤微生物及土壤酶活性的变化是一个极其缓慢的互动过程,存在着互相回馈的响应,特别是真菌与放线菌、微生物量氮及蔗糖酶,放线菌与过氧化氢酶、蔗糖酶,微生物量碳与磷酸酶,微生物量氮与脲酶,微生物量磷与蔗糖酶均存在极显著的相关性。总体来看在退耕年限4—5 a前,有利于土壤发育,退耕后期土壤肥力呈下降的趋势。  相似文献

比较了不同施肥方式对江苏金坛(31°39′41.8″ N, 119°28′23.5″ E)稻麦轮作体系下稻季土壤线虫群落结构的影响.试验共设CK(不施肥)、F(100%化肥)、PF(猪粪堆肥配施50%化肥)、SF(秸秆全量还田配施100%化肥)、PSF(猪粪堆肥和秸秆全量还田配施50%化肥)和PMF(猪粪商品有机无机复合肥)6个处理,在秋季水稻收获后进行采样.连续两年的试验结果表明: 线虫种群在不同处理和年份间存在变化.配施有机肥能够增加线虫总数,降低食细菌线虫的丰度,显著提高杂食/捕食性线虫的丰度;各处理食真菌线虫的丰度无显著差异;单施化肥和猪粪商品有机无机复合肥对植食性线虫的抑制作用不明显.第二年配施有机肥的食细菌线虫丰度较第一年相对提高,植食性线虫(潜根属Hirschmanniella)丰度相对降低.从土壤线虫生态学指数来看,配施有机肥处理第二年的土壤线虫多样性均显著提高,丰富度指数有上升的趋势,而线虫通路比值几乎没有变化.第二年瓦斯乐斯卡指数较第一年相对提高,而植食性线虫成熟指数相对降低.施用有机肥能够提高土壤食微线虫的丰度,使土壤环境趋于健康.  相似文献

在草原生态系统中,土壤是植物生长发育最重要的基质,对植物群落动态有显著的影响。刈割是内蒙古典型草原区除放牧外最重要的利用方式。研究不同刈割频度对典型草原区群落特征和若干土壤性质的影响及土壤因子与群落特征的相关性,旨在得出对群落多样性最有利并最适宜生产利用的刈割频度。研究区设置在内蒙古锡林浩特市东部以大针茅建群的典型草原;在2009—2013年进行不同频度的刈割处理,共设置处理,一年两次刈割、一年一次刈割、两年一次(割一年休一年)刈割、围封,在2013年8月采集测定土壤养分的样品。刈割对群落多样性影响显著,割一年休一年Shannon-Wiener多样性指数、Pielou均匀度指数、丰富度指数均高于其他刈割处理(P0.05);不同频度刈割下,一年两次刈割处理下土壤20—30cm和30—40cm的有机质含量显著高于其他处理(P0.05);不同频度刈割处理下土壤中的速效磷和速效氮的含量没有显著差异;一年两次处理的土壤全氮含量显著高于其他处理(P0.05)。Shannon-Wiener多样性指数与有机质含量、全氮含量呈显著负相关;Pielou均匀度指数与土壤元素间无显著相关关系;Richness指数与有机质含量呈显著负相关,与全氮含量为极显著负相关关系。割一年休一年刈割处理下土壤元素含量呈现更好的状态,结合群落物种多样性及生产利用的角度,割一年休一年为最合理的刈割频度。  相似文献

Summary To determine whether sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Poir.) takes up organic matter through the roots from the medium, the concentrations of natural14C (14C) in plant organic matter, atmospheric CO2 and compost applied to media were examined under soil and sand culture conditions. In these experiments, three kinds of composts of different 14C were used. CO2 derived from the mineralization of compost was continuously pumped out from the pots and its direct uptake by the leaves was prevented.14C of plant parts harvested after the 43 days experimental period were affected by the 14C of the compost in the treatments where the compost of rice straw was applied, and which suggested that a significant amount of plant carbon was derived from the compost.  相似文献

This study was conducted during 1992–1994 under semi-arid conditions in Burkina Faso. Our aim was to assess the influence of different mulch materials on soil variables affecting crop growth; i.e. water content, nutrient contents and temperature. The grain yield of Sorghum bicolor was used as a bioindicator, i.e. as an integrated measure of mulch effects.Six treatments were tested, two of which were leaf mulches of special interest for agroforestry. The treatments were chosen to represent mulch materials differing in nutrient content and decomposability (assumed to influence the duration of the impact on soil water content and temperature). The treatments were as follows: (1) control (no addition), (2) Azadirachta indica (neem) leaves, (3) neem leaves + aerobic compost of sorghum straw, (4) aerobic compost, (5) Acacia holocericea (acacia) phyllodes, and (6) wild grass. The mulching rate was 5 t dry matter ha-1, and base mineral fertilizers were applied to all plots.It was shown that the neem leaves, neem leaves + compost, wild grass and acacia phyllodes treatments all significantly influenced the soil by conserving water and reducing temperatures compared with the control or the treatment with compost alone. Plots treated with either neem leaves, neem leaves + compost or compost alone gave higher yields than the three other treatments, generally poorer in nutrients, between which there was little difference. Neem leaves gave the numerically highest response: 1.54 × control, corresponding to a grain yield increase of 554 kg dry mass ha-1 yr-1 when averaged over the three years of study.Thus, yields did not always increase in spite of increased soil moisture and decreased soil temperatures. It was concluded that nutrients were more limiting than water or high soil temperatures under the conditions studied. The highest yields were achieved with a mulch that combines high nutrient delivery with water conservation and temperature reduction, namely mulch from neem leaves.  相似文献

研究了林分密度和外源性氮(N)磷(P)添加及二者的交互作用对土壤酶活性的影响,可以为当前不同密度的亚热带林在氮沉降和施磷肥条件下,影响我国亚热带人工林土壤养分转化的酶学机制提供理论依据。以大叶相思(Acacia auriculiformis)人工林为试验材料,选择氯化铵(NH4Cl)和二水合磷酸二氢钠(NaH2PO4·2H2O)作为N肥和P肥,氮磷添加设置4个处理,即对照、施N、施P和施N+P;种植密度设置低密度(1667株/hm2)、中密度(2500株/hm2)、较高密度(4444株/hm2)和高密度(10000株/hm2)4个水平。在4种密度的大叶相思人工林下各设置一个样地(即4个样地),每个样地内5个样方,每个样方内设置4种处理,合计共16个处理,5个重复,80个小区,测定土壤脲酶、磷酸酶和过氧化氢酶活性,分析林分密度和NP添加对大叶相思林地土壤酶活性的影响。研究结果表明:N添加对各林分密度下的土壤脲酶和过...  相似文献

This investigation deals with the control effects of the insect pathogenic fungus Metarhizium anisopliae var. anisopliae on Daktulosphaira vitifoliae. In pot experiments, the soil surrounding phylloxera-infected grapes was inoculated with barley colonised with M. anisopliae. After thirty-two days, ineight of ten Metarhizium-applied pots nofresh phylloxera infections could be observed.In two of ten plants, a few fresh nodositiessingly occupied with phylloxera or phylloxeraeggs could be found. In all untreated plants,fresh nodosities with either single (two of sixplants) or multiple (four of six plants)occupation with phylloxera could be observed.M. anisopliae could be re-isolated in aconcentration of <1 × 103 CFU g$minus;1 soil dry weight from those pots with phylloxera-infected plants that had been treated with the fungus. In 1981 a two-year field plot experiment was established to assess the effects of quantities (0, 7.5, 15, 30, 60 and 120 t ha−1) of fresh kelp (Macrocystis integrifolia) on crop growth and nutritional response and chemical properties of a fine-textured soil. Soil was analyzed for NO3−N, NH4−N, electrical conductivity, pH, Cl and exchangeable cations (K, Mg, Ca, Mn and Na). The plots were planted to beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) in the first year and peas (Pisum sativum) in the second year. Marketable bean yields increased in the first year with kelp applications up to 60 t ha−1, with yields, emergence and flowering being reduced by the 120 t ha−1 application. Soluble salts (EC) and Cl concentrations in the soil eight days after application increased linearly and sharply with increasing quantities of kelp. Increased K concentration and moisture content, characteristics of plants growing in a salt-stressed soil environment, were measured. A subsequent companion greenhouse experiment confirmed that the reduced bean emergence and growth with 120 t ha−1 applications of kelp were primarily due to soluble salts. The only growth effects upon peas in the second year was a slight reduction in leaf plus stem yields with increasing applications of kelp.  相似文献

Sugar mill by-products compost may be a good soil amendment to promote tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.) growth. In addition, the compost may further promote plant growth by inoculation with N2-fixing bacteria. Compost from sugar-mill waste was prepared with and without the N2-fixing bacteria, Azotobacter vinelandii, Beijerinckia derxii and Azospirillum sp. and incubated for 50 days. Each compost type was added to 10 kg of soil in pots at rates of 0, 15, and 45 g with and without fertilizer N at rates of 0, 0.75, and 1.54 g. A blanket application of P and K was applied to all pots. Shoot and root dry weights and N content of the whole plant was measured at 55 days. Dry weight of tomato shoots was increased by 40% by addition of fertilizer N and root weight was increased by 66%. Without fertilizer N the high rate of inoculated compost increased shoot growth 180% and uninoculated compost increased shoot growth 112%. For most treatments with and without fertilizer N, inoculated compost enhanced shoot growth and nitrogen content more than uninoculated compost. Root weights were nearly doubled by addition of either compost in comparison to the 0 N treatment. At the low rate of compost addition without fertilizer N, root weight was the same for uninoculated and inoculated compost but at the high rate of compost addition root weight was 32% higher for inoculated compost. The N2-fixing bacteria colonized roots when inoculated compost was used. Sugar mill by-products compost proved to be an effective soil amendment for promoting the growth of tomato plants.  相似文献

In a Scots pine forest stand, demineralized water and a complete set of nutrients with water were applied to the soil by means of frequent irrigation for four years in order to eliminate water and nutrient shortage of the trees. Apart from this optimization, dissolved (NH4)2SO4 was irrigated at a rate of 120 kg N ha-1 y-1 to create a situation of N excess. Effect of treatments on tree growth and chemical composition of soil water and vegetation were monitored. From the first treatment year onwards basal area growth increased by ca. 35% as a result of the increased water supply. Nutrient applications increased K and P concentrations in pine needles immediately, but growth was enhanced only in the fourth treatment year and coincided with an improved K supply. Most of the applied P and K was retained in the soil, and only 6% was recovered in the vegetation. Tree nutrient status did not respond on Ca and Mg applications, whereas Ca and Mg seepage losses were increased with ca. 5 kg ha-1 y-1. The applied NH4 was mostly retained in the 0–20 cm surface soil and caused a drastic increase of Al in soil solution. Tree growth was stimulated initially by extra NH4, but was hampered after three years obviously because of a decreased P nutrition. The applied base cations were absorped to the soil and the accompanying anions were leached, thus temporarily increasing the acidification of the soil solution.  相似文献

A 7-year study located in Prince Edward Island, Canada, examined the influence of compost and manure on crop yield and nematode populations. The compost used in this study consisted of cull waste potatoes, sawdust, and beef manure in a 3:3:1 ratio, respectively. No plant-parasitic nematodes were detected in samples collected from windrow compost piles at 5- and 30-cm depths prior to application on field plots. Low population densities of bacterial-feeding nematodes were recovered from compost windrows at the 5-cm depth. Field plots of potato (Solanum tuberosum cv. Kennebec) received compost applied at 16 metric tonnes per hectare, or beef manure applied at 12 metric tonnes per hectare. An adjacent trial with barley (Hordeum vulgare cv. Mic Mac) received only the compost treatment. In both trials the experimental design was a complete randomized block with four replicates. Data averaged over seven growing seasons indicated that population levels of root-lesion nematodes (primarily Pratylenchus penetrans) were higher in root-zone soil in potato plots treated with either compost or manure compared to the untreated control plots. The soil amendments did not affect root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne hapla) population densities in the potato plots, but clover-cyst nematodes (Heterodera trifolii) were more numerous in the root-zone soils of barley treated with compost compared to the untreated plots. Numbers of bacterial-feeding nematodes (primarily Diplogaster lheritieri) were greater in soil in potato plots treated with manure and in soil around barley roots than in untreated plots. Total yields of potato tubers averaged over seven growing seasons increased by 27% in the plots treated with either compost or manure. Grain yields of barley also were increased by 12% when compost was applied. These results indicated that organic amendments increased crop yields, but the impacts on different nematode species varied and usually increased soil population levels.  相似文献
