Twenty-two chromosome counts of 19 taxa in the tribe Anthemideae of the family Asteraceae are reported from north-east Anatolia, Turkey. The taxa belong to the subtribes Achilleinae (four Achillea taxa), Anthemidinae (five Anthemis taxa), Artemisiinae (two Artemisia species), Leucantheminae (one Lecanthemum species), Matricariinae (two Tripleurospermum species) and Tanacetinae (five Tanacetum taxa). Six counts are new reports, seven are not consistent with previous counts, and the remainder are confirmations of very limited previous data. Most of the populations of Anthemideae studied have the basic number x  = 9, with ploidy levels ranging from 2 x to 7 to 8 x , but dysploidy is also present, with one diploid species, Artemisia austriaca , having x  = 8.  © 2007 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2007, 153 , 203–211.  相似文献

Two new taxa in Stipa L. Sect. Leiostipa Dumort., S. alba and S. letournexii ssp. ignea , are described from southern Tunisia (northern Africa). In addition, the S. letournexii complex is reviewed and a new combination, S. letournexii ssp. tunetana (H.Scholz) F.M. The Turkish Crataegus taxa were investigated using morphological, palynological, and anatomical characters. A new series ( Crataegus Section Crataegus Series Peshmenia ), two new species ( Crataegus peshmenii and Crataegus christensenii ), and one variety ( Crataegus rhipidophylla var. kutahyaensis ) are described. Furthermore, Crataegus  ×  browicziana has been assigned to Crataegus rhipidophylla with a new status. Illustrations of the described taxa and their distribution map are also given. Muscari turcicum Uysal, Ertugrul & Dural (Liliaceae/Hyacinthaceae) is described and illustrated from south Anatolia, Turkey. This species grows on alpine steppe in the Middle Taurus (C4 Konya Province). Muscari turcicum , an endemic confined to the Middle Taurus, is closely related to M. discolor Boiss. & Hausskn. and M. anatolicum Cowley & Özhatay. Spelaeogriphacea and Mictacea are enigmatic taxa within malacostracan crustaceans that play a pivotal role in peracarid phylogeny. Anatomical data on both taxa that are suitable for use in cladistic analyses are still scarce. Here, we provide for the first time detailed three-dimensional information on the major organ systems of Spelaeogriphacea and Mictacea (the circulatory system, the digestive system, and the central nervous system) using semithin sections in combination with computer aided three-dimensional reconstruction techniques. The digestive system in both Spelaeogriphus lepidops and Mictocaris halope is made up of a short oesophagus leading to a voluminous stomach chamber. Posteriorly, a pylorus is attached to the stomach chamber. An antechamber of the midgut glands is situated at the transition into the midgut, from which up to four tubular midgut glands emanate. The midgut is a straight tube running through the body terminating in a short hindgut. The central nervous system in the cephalothorax is made up of a brain and a suboesophageal ganglion. Both species show some reduction of the protocerebrum caused by the lack of eyes. The circulatory system is made up of a tubular heart that is situated in the thorax. It is equipped with two pairs of incurrent ostia in S. lepidops and one pair in M. halope . The only artery leading off the heart is the anterior aorta, which runs into the cephalothorax. A dilation is formed between the brain and the anterior stomach wall, into which oesophageal dilator muscles are internalized. Heliosperma oliverae Niketić & Stevanović is described from Mt. Prokletije in south-west Serbia and north-east Montenegro, together with an estimation of its ecological preferences and International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) threat status. A map and illustration are provided. It is compared with seven closely related Balkan endemic taxa: H. macranthum Panić, H. retzdorffianum K. Malý, H. tommasinii Vis., H. insulare Trinajstić, H. chromodontum (Boiss. & Reuter) Juratzka, H. intonsum (Greuter & Melzh.) Niketić & Stevanović, and H. nikolicii (Seliger & T. Wraber) Niketić & Stevanović. A treatment of the Rubiaceae of Cabinda (Angola) is presented based on various herbarium collections. There are 67 genera and 169 species of Rubiaceae represented in the flora of Cabinda. Eight entities are unnamed and could represent new taxa. Identification keys are provided for species and infraspecific taxa. A new combination is made in Rothmannia and two are made in Psychotria. A new name is provided in Psychotria . Eighteen taxa are endemic to Cabinda, two of which are also endemic to Angola. The seed protein profiles of 11 Amaranthus taxa (Amaranthaceae) from Spain were studied. These profiles were evaluated as a chemical character to clarify the taxonomic complexity in the genus. Tricine-sodium dodecylsulphate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) profiles of the Amaranthus seed proteins studied showed a range of peptides varying from 64 to 12 kDa, with a larger number of protein bands observed between 25.1 and 12 kDa. For the taxonomic study, 14 bands, some of them subdivided into several isoforms, were considered. The similarity analysis based on the SDS-PAGE profile is a useful character for the discrimination of species in Amaranthus , except for A. cruentus and A. hypochondriacus , for which a hybrid population was found. © 2007 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2007, 155 , 57–63.  相似文献

A taxonomic revision of Pseudonereis (Polychaeta, Nereididae) shows that some of the described taxa are very similar in most morphological characteristics. The revision includes all ten taxa considered valid, and are redescribed from type material. Lectotypes are designated for Pseudonereis anomala Gravier, 1901, Pseudonereis noodti (Hartmann-Schröder, 1962) and Pseudonereis trimaculata Horst, 1924. The widely geographically distributed and well-known P. gallapagensis Kinberg, 1865 and P. variegata ( Grube, 1857 ) show striking morphological resemblance to less well-known taxa with similar distribution. Paragnath variation in populations of P. anomala is discussed relating to its geographical distribution. Pseudonereis trimaculata is recorded from Australia for the first time. Taxa belonging to Pseudonereis are predominantly tropical and subtropical. A cladistic analysis using parsimony is included to test for monophyly of Pseudonereis . A monophyletic clade including all Pseudonereis taxa is given low bootstrap support. This clade is supported by the synapomorphies: presence of paragnaths in closely spaced comb-like rows on the maxillary ring on the pharynx, and presence of p-bar paragnaths in Areas II–IV and VII–VIII. Several of the included taxa share the shield-shaped paragnath in Area VI, which serves to distinguish Pseudonereis spp. from Perinereis spp. Paragnaths of the type p-bars and shield-shaped bar is described for the first time; the latter character is different from the smooth bar-shaped paragnaths in Area VI as has previously been described in these taxa.  © 2007 The Linnean Society of London, Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society , 2007, 150 , 145–176.  相似文献

We used morphological, vocal and molecular (one mitochondrial and two nuclear loci) data to re-evaluate the taxonomic status of the taxa acanthizoides , concolor , and brunnescens in the Cettia acanthizoides (J. Verreaux, 1871) complex. We conclude that all three are valid taxa, and that acanthizoides of China and concolor of Taiwan are best treated as conspecific, whereas brunnescens of the Himalayas is better considered as a separate species. The degree of morphological, vocal, and genetic differentiation is variably congruent among all taxa; the recently separated acanthizoides and concolor differ slightly in plumage and structure but are indistinguishable in vocalizations, whereas the earlier diverged brunnescens and acanthizoides/concolor differ only slightly more in morphology but to a much greater degree in vocalizations. We used morphological and geographical data of 128 herbarium specimens of the Taxus wallichiana complex in eastern Asia to investigate their utilization in discriminating and identifying taxa included in the complex. One bud scale and 26 leaf characters were used to separate T. fuana , T. wallichiana var. wallichiana , T. wallichiana var. mairei , T. wallichiana var. chinensis and T. sumatrana by K-means clustering and dendrograms using Ward's distance. Out of the 27 characters examined 21 were found to be well correlated with geographical patterns. T. fuana was morphologically the most distant taxon, while T. sumatrana clustered among the T. wallichiana varieties. After correcting misidentifications of the specimens in T. wallichiana , its varieties occupied discrete geographical ranges, except for some limited sympatry of varieties mairei and chinensis east of the Tanaka–Kaiyong line and the Sichuan Basin, China. Our analysis demonstrates the importance of consistency in character selection and definition in the identification of morphologically difficult taxa and the power of combining morphometric and geographical data in clarifying their spatial distribution.  © 2007 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2007, 155 , 307–335.  相似文献

During the preparation of the Vascular Flora of the Marquesas Islands and Flore de la Polynésie française , four new species of Ixora L. (Rubiaceae) have come to light and are described and illustrated herein: Ixora jourdanii Mouly & J.Florence, Ixora tahuataensis Mouly & J.Florence, Ixora uahukaensis Lorence & W.L.Wagner, and Ixora uapouensis Lorence & W.L.Wagner. In addition to these new taxa, the following three species of Ixora previously described from the Marquesas are recognized: Ixora marquesensis F.Br., Ixora ooumuensis J.Florence, and Ixora spathoidea F.Br. As the Marquesan environment is under serious threat from human impact, feral animals and weeds, the conservation status was estimated for each Ixora species. The parentage of polyploid Sorbus species in the British Isles was investigated using plastid DNA microsatellites. Four hundred and fifty-three samples from 30 taxa were screened using six microsatellite fragments, which gave 28 haplotypes. The haplotypes formed groups clearly related to the ancestral diploids Sorbus aria , Sorbus aucuparia , and Sorbus torminalis . Species in the Sorbus aria group all had Aria haplotypes (with the exception of one English S. aria ), species in the Sorbus anglica group had an Aucuparia haplotype, and species in the Sorbus latifolia group had a Torminalis haplotype. Sorbus intermedia had an Aucuparia haplotype. This indicated that the hybridization events that led to the formation of species in the S. anglica and S. latifolia groups usually did so with S. aria s.l . as the pollen-donating (paternal) parent. The polyploids S. anglica , Sorbus bristoliensis , Sorbus croceocarpa , Sorbus decipiens , Sorbus devoniensis , Sorbus hibernica , Sorbus lancastriensis , Sorbus leptophylla , Sorbus leyana , Sorbus minima , Sorbus rupicola , Sorbus subcuneata , Sorbus vexans , Sorbus whiteana , Sorbus wilmottiana , and three unnamed taxa may each be derived from a single maternal lineage. The polyploids Sorbus eminens , Sorbus porrigentiformis , and S. latifolia have multiple maternal lineages. A new nothosubspecies Cirsium  ×  vivantii is described after a molecular and morphological characterization of eight individuals collected in two separate valleys of the French central Pyrenees. Both hypervariable Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism (AFLP) markers and nuclear rDNA (ITS) and plastid ( trn L-F, TRNT-L) DNA sequences were analysed. The profiles of these hybrid samples were compared to those of 43 individuals belonging to their presumed parental taxa C. carniolicum ssp. rufescens and C. palustre . A total of 133 AFLP bands were scored from three primer-pair combinations. All 130 AFLP bands that amplified in the hybrid samples were present in either C. carniolicum ssp. rufescens , C. palustre or both taxa, supporting the participation of these plant genomes in the resulting hybrids. Several Additive Polymorphic Sites (APS) detected in the ITS sequences of the hybrid samples also confirmed their derived origins from ribotypes of the two parental taxa. The lack of exclusive AFLP markers and the nonconcerted evolution of rDNA polymorphisms towards either of the parental ribotypes indicated their recent origin. Plastid trn T-L sequences were used to identify C. palustre as the maternal parent of six of these hybrid individuals; either parent could have acted as the plastid genome donor for the other two individuals. The morphological study revealed that all hybrid individuals were morphologically intermediate between their parents showing largely lobed and less spiny basal leaves as in C. carniolicum ssp. rufescens and decurrent leaf bases and pinkish corollas as in C. palustre .  © 2007 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2007, 154 , 421–434.  相似文献

In Myrtaceae (Myrteae), the diploid chromosome number 2 n  = 2 x  = 22 is the most common, although variations of ploidy level occur, with some triploid (2 n  = 3 x  = 33) and tetraploid (2 n  = 4 x  = 44) records. Karyotype details in this group are scarce because the chromosomes are small (< 2 μm). In this work, we carried out a karyotypic analysis of 15 species of Myrtaceae grouped in different subtribes and genera. Measurements of chromosome length (long arm, L ; short arm, S ) were taken and several karyotypic parameters were calculated for each species. The chromosome numbers of 27 populations of Buddleja , comprising 14 species, were counted. The basic chromosome number of all species was x  = 19, confirming previous reports. Different ploidy levels (2 n  = 38, 76, 114, 228) were observed in these taxa, representing diploids, tetraploids, hexaploids, and dodecaploids, respectively. The chromosome numbers of B. yunnanensis , B. brachystachya , and B. macrostachya are reported for the first time. The tetraploid 2 n  = 76 is a new ploidy level for B. myriantha . Particular attention was given to B. macrostachya , because of the variation in morphology and ploidy level between isolated populations of this species. Two types of interphase nuclei were recognized: the complex chromocentre type in B. macrostachya and the simple chromocentre type in the other species. Biogeographically, most of the polyploidy in the Asiatic species occurs in the Sino-Himalayan region. It seems to be associated with the uplift of the Himalayan Mountains, the orogeny of this region playing an important role in the evolution of polyploidy in these taxa.  © 2007 The Linnean Society of London.
