Rhizoctonia oryzae-sativae, the anamorph of Ceratobasidium setariae, is transferred to Ceratorhiza. A discussion of teleomorph and anamorph taxonomy and nomenclature is also given and it is concluded that, for the present, there is only one holomorph species.  相似文献

Two strains of xylose-containing and Q-10-having ballistoconidiogenous yeasts isolated from plant leaves collected in Taiwan were found to represent two new species of the genus Bullera. In the phylogenetic trees based on the sequence analysis of 18S rDNA and D1/D2 domain of 26S rDNA, these species are located in the Bullera variabilis (Bulleribasidum) cluster in Hymenomycetes. They are described as Bullera begoniae sp. nov. and Bullera setariae sp. nov., respectively.  相似文献

Survival and dispersal of three root aphid species under greenhouse conditions was greatly enhanced in the presence of Lasius neoniger Emery. the ant was observed carrying three root aphid species but not two above-ground species. All attempts to transmit barley yellow dwarf (BYDV) with Forda olivacea Rohwer, Geoica utricularia (Passerini), Anoecia setariae Gillette & Palmer, or Aphis maidiradicis Forbes failed. However, A. maidiradicis was able to transmit cucumber mosaic virus. Rhopalosiphum padi (L.) could acquire BYDV from barley roots, but it rarely infected plants when feeding on roots.
Zusammenfassung Die vorliegende Arbeit versucht die Bedeutung unterirdisch lebender Blattläuse für die Gelbverzwergungsvirose der Gerste zu klären. Sie schliesst sich damit früheren Untersuchungen über die Beziehung zwischen Schizaphis graminis (Rond.), einem Vektor des Virus, und der Ameise Lasius neoniger Emery an.Es konnte beobachtet werden, dass L. neoniger drei Wurzellausarten wegtrug, die in einer Versuchsarena freigelassen wurden, während zwei oberirdisch-lebende Blattlausarten nicht transportiert wurden. Die Gegenwart von Ameisen im Versuchsareal förderte auch die Vermehrung von Wurzelläusen auf Getreide und deren Ausbreitung auf benachbarte Pflanzen. Diese ausbreitungsfördende Wirkung des Blattlausbesuchs könnte von epidemiologischer Bedeutung sein, falls sich Wurzelläuse als Vektoren erweisen sollten. Alle Versuche, das Virus mit Forda olivacea Rohwer, Geoica utricularia (Passerini), Anoecia setariae Gillette & Palmer oder Aphis maidiradicis Forbes zu übertragen, schlugen jedoch fehl. Das nichtpersistente Gurkenmosaik konnte allerdings durch A. maidiradicis übertragen werden.Neben den typischen Wurzelläusen wurden unterirdisch lebende Rhopalosiphum padi L. im Freiland angetroffen. Übertragungsversuche ergaben, dass das Gelbverzwergungsvirus von der Blattlaus aus den Wurzeln aufgenommen werden konnte, dagegen gelang es nur selten, Getreidepflanzen durch auf Wurzeln saugende Blattläuse zu infizieren. Da aber im Freiland die Mehrzahl der unterirdisch lebenden R. padi auf den leicht zu infizierenden Stengelteilen angetroffen wurden, dürfte dieser relativen Widerstandsfähigkeit der Wurzeln gegenüber der Virusinfektion keine grössere Bedeutung zukommen.

The species of the genus Xiphinema Cobb, 1913 are listed and their current status is indicated. A revised polytomous key to the 172 valid species (excluding the X. americanum-group) is presented. Because of the very large number of species the key is split into eight groups on the basis of development of the anterior female genital branch, uterine differentiation and tail shape. In accordance with the opinion of Cohn & Sher (1972) X. vulgare Tarjan, 1964 is considered a synonym of X. setariae Luc, 1968. X. cubense Razzhivin, 1973 is placed in species inquirendae. Longidorella chappuisi (Schneider, 1935) is transferred to Xiphinema and its possible identity with X. hygrophilum Southey & Luc, 1974 is discussed.  相似文献

The role of the sucrose transporter OsSUT1 in assimilate retrieval via the xylem, as a result of damage to and leakage from punctured phloem was examined after rusty plum aphid (Hysteroneura setariae, Thomas) infestation on leaves from 3‐week‐old rice (Oryza sativa L. cv Nipponbare) plants. Leaves were examined over a 1‐ to 10‐day infestation time course, using a combination of gene expression and β‐glucuronidase (GUS) reporter gene analyses. qPCR and Western blot analyses revealed differential expression of OsSUT1 during aphid infestation. Wide‐field fluorescence microscopy was used to confirm the expression of OsSUT1‐promoter::GUS reporter gene in vascular parenchyma associated with xylem elements, as well as in companion cells associated with phloem sieve tubes of large, intermediate and small vascular bundles within the leaf blade, in regions where the aphids had settled and were feeding. Of great interest was up‐regulation of OsSUT1 expression associated with the xylem parenchyma cells, abutting the metaxylem vessels, which confirmed that OsSUT1 was not only involved in loading of sugars into the phloem under normal physiological conditions, but was apparently involved in the retrieval of sucrose leaked into the xylem conduits, which occurred as a direct result of aphid feeding, probing and puncturing of vascular bundles. The up‐regulation of OsSUT1 in xylem vascular parenchyma thus provides evidence in support of the location within the xylem parenchyma cells of an efficient mechanism to ensure sucrose recovery after loss to the apoplast (xylem) after aphid‐related feeding damage and its transfer back to the symplast (phloem) in O. sativa leaves.  相似文献

A thermogradient apparatus was used to investigate the effect of variable dew temperatures on infection of green foxtail by the indigenous pathogen Pyricularia setariae (Ps) and the exotic pathogens Drechslera gigantea (Dg), and Exserohilum rostratum (Er) from the southern USA that showed bioherbicide potential against several grassy weeds. This device is capable of creating multiple diurnal temperature cycles, mimicking daily temperature fluctuations that occur under field conditions. Seven temperature regimes, i.e., 15/10 °C, 20/5 °C, 20/15 °C, 25/10 °C, 25/20 °C, 30/15 °C, and 30/25 °C (maximum/minimum), were used with temperature cycling from maximum to minimum and then back up to maximum in a 24 h period. Ps and Dg were much more virulent than Er on green foxtail, resulting in higher levels of disease and weed control. Dg was little affected by the dew temperatures in terms of plant infection and was more efficacious than Ps under cooler dew temperatures (15/10 °C and 20/5 °C), causing twice as much disease. This greater amount of disease coincided with higher conidial germination, appressorial formation and infection-hypha frequency by Dg at the lower temperatures. The efficacy of Ps improved as dew temperature increased, accompanied by a higher percentage of germination and more frequent appressorial production. Dg caused severe disease 2 d after inoculation whereas Ps required 4 d to initiate disease symptoms. These observations suggest that Dg is a superior candidate than Ps for green foxtail control on the Canadian prairies.  相似文献

Some metric characters of nests built during the founding phase by foundresses were compared between two consubgenericPolistes wasps,P. (Polistes) riparius andP. (P.) chinensis, the former of which inhabit higher latitudes. Volumes and dry weights ofP. riparius nests were strikingly larger than those ofP. chinensis, even when standardized by the foundress weight (2.5 times for volume and 2 times for weight), showing that foundresses ofP. riparius invest much more in the nest construction than those ofP. chinensis. However, percent weights of oral secretion used for nests to total nest weights were smaller inP. riparius than inP. chinensis (52.1% vs. 60.4%). The differences in the investment by foundresses of the two species in the construction and maintenance of nests were discussed in relation to climatic and other environmental factors.  相似文献

Oxalic acid is produced by some species of plants and mycorrhizal fungi and it may solubilize unavailable soil phosphorus (P) bound by cations (Ca++, Al++, Fe+++). Field and greenhouse experiments were conducted to show whether oxalate produced by the annual Salsola tragus or added oxalic acid would solubilize P from the inorganic-bound soil P pool, making it available for uptake by Stipa pulchra. Oxalate could be leached in the laboratory from the senescent canopy of Salsola, and leaching by rainfall was hypothesized to be a source of potential increased soil P under the Salsola canopy. Both oxalate leached from the canopy of Salsola and added oxalic acid increased the availability of soil P in greenhouse experiments. The source of the increase in available soil P in the greenhouse experiment was shown to be the inorganic-bound P pool, as the total P concentration of the soil decreased with increasing oxalate. There were significant increases in Stipa shoot P in response to Salsola leachates and in response to added oxalate in the greenhouse studies. These results suggest an important role for oxalate in P cycling. On disturbed sites where Salsola invades it may act to facilitate the establishment of later seral species like Stipa by creating a nutrient island of available P.  相似文献

Herbivores can affect future forest composition by feeding selectivity. At temperature-sensitive treelines, herbivory can exacerbate or constrain climate-driven distributional shifts in tree species. This study analyses the impact of herbivory in a Mediterranean treeline of widespread Pinus sylvestris and P. nigra pinewoods, testing whether herbivory damage reinforces or inhibits the climatic responses of these trees. We used naturally occurring sapling pairs of similar size and age of both species, thereby isolating plant characteristics from environmental effects in herbivore behaviour. Herbivory damage by ungulates proved higher than that caused by insects in saplings of both species. Low plant density and extreme abiotic conditions at the treeline could in part be responsible for the observed low incidence of insect herbivory. Ungulates preferred P. sylvestris over P. nigra, implying heavier browsing damage for a large number of P. sylvestris saplings, suffering reduced internode growth as a consequence. In addition, P. sylvestris could not compensate height-growth reductions due to browsing with higher growth rate than P. nigra. In fact, P. sylvestris showed similar or lower relative height growth with respect to P. nigra. Under a scenario of increasing aridity and maintenance of ungulate populations, the upward migration of P. sylvestris in its southern range could be restricted by higher drought vulnerability than P. nigra, a situation exacerbated by ungulate herbivory. Our results indicate that ungulate herbivory reinforces climatic response of coexisting P. sylvestris and P. nigra at treeline, favouring a potential change in community dominance towards Mediterranean P. nigra.  相似文献

Summary P22 mutants defective in the early gene 24 are complemented by phage L in mixed infection. P22 12 - and P22 23 - mutants are not complemented by phage L. Gene function 24 of an L prophage is turned on by a superinfecting P22 24 - mutant and complements the missing function of the defective P22 phage. Since this transactivation of prophage gene 24 depends on a functional gene ant in the superinfecting P22 mutant, it indicates derepression for leftward directed gene expression in prophage L. On the contrary neither the rightward directed expression of gene 12 nor of gene 23 in prophage L can be turned on by superinfecting P22 24 - 12 - or P22 24 - 23 - mutants (and also not by P22 12 - and P22 23 -) to a degree sufficient for complementation of simultaneously superinfecting L virB 12 - or L virB 23 - mutants. The failure to detect release of repression for rightward directed gene expression of prophage L corresponds to the earlier observation (Prell, 1975) that P22 superinfecting L lysogens cannot release replication inhibition for simultaneously infecting phage L. The results are discussed with respect to the mechanism underlying the different action of P22 antirepressor in L and in P22 lysogens.  相似文献

In an attempt to identify relationships among genomes of the allotetraploid Pennisetum purpureum Schumach and closely related Pennisetum species with which it can be successfully hybridized, repetitive DNA sequences were examined. Digestion with KpnI revealed two highly repetitive fragments of 140 by and 160 bp. The possibility that these sequences could be used as genome markers was investigated. Average sequences were determined for the 140 by and 160 by KpnI families from P. purpureum and P. squamulatum Fresen. Average sequences (based upon four or five repeats) were determined for the P. glaucum (L.) R. Br. 140 by KpnI family and the diploid P. hohenackeri Hochst. ex Steud. 160 bp KpnI family. The average sequences of the 160 by KpnI families in P. purpureum and P. squamulatum differ by only nine bases. The 140 by KpnI families of the three related species, P. purpureum, P. squamulantum, and P. glaucum are nearly identical, and thus likely represent a recent divergence from a common progenitor or a common genome. Each repetitive sequence may contain internal duplications, which probably diverged following amplification of the original sequence. The 140 by KpnI repeat probably evolved from the 160 by KpnI repeat since the missing 18 by segment is part of the internal duplication that is otherwise conserved in the subrepeats. From a set of mixed carbon sources, 5-phenylvaleric acid (PV) and octanoic acid (OA), polyhydroxyalkanoic acid (PHA) was separately accumulated in the two pseudomonads Pseudomonas putida BM01 and Pseudomonas citronellolis (ATCC 13674) to investigate any structural difference between the two PHA accumulated under a similar culture condition using one-step culture technique. The resulting polymers were isolated by chloroform solvent extraction and characterized by fractional precipitation and differential scanning calorimetry. The solvent fractionation analysis showed that the PHA synthesized by P. putida was separated into two fractions, 3-hydroxy-5-phenylvalerate (3HPV))-rich PHA fraction in the precipitate phase and 3-hydroxyoctanoate (3HO)-rich PHA fraction in the solution phase whereas the PHA produced by P. citronellolis exhibited a rather little compositional separation into the two phases. According to the thermal analysis, the P. putida PHA exhibited two glass transitions indicative of the PHA not being homogeneous whereas the P. citronellolis PHA exhibited only one glass transition. It was found that the structural heterogeneity of the P. putida PHA was caused by a significant difference in the assimilation rate between PV and OA. The structural heterogeneity present in the P. putida PHA was also confirmed by a first order degradation kinetics analysis of the PHA in the cells. The two different first-order degradation rate constants (k1), 0.087 and 0.015/h for 3HO- and 3HPV-unit, respectively, were observed in a polymer system over the first 20 h of degradation. In the later degradation period, the disappearance rate of 3HO-unit was calculated to be 0.020 h. The k1 value of 0.083/h, almost the same as for the 3HO-unit in the P. putida PHA, was obtained for the P(3HO) accumulated in P. putida BM01 grown on OA as the only carbon source. In addition, the k1 value of 0.015/h for the 3HPV-unit in the P. putida PHA, was also close to 0.019/h for the P(3HPV) homopolymer accumulated in P. putida BM01 grown on PV plus butyric acid. On the contrary, the k1 values for the P. citronellolis PHA were determined to be 0.035 and 0.029/h for 3HO- and 3HPV-unit, respectively, thus these two relatively close values implying a random copolymer nature of the P. citronellolis PHA. In addition, the faster degradation of P(3HO) than P(3HPV) by the intracellular P. putida PHA depolymerase indicates that the enzyme is more specific against the aliphatic PHA than the aromatic PHA.  相似文献

The adult populations of three Pieris butterflies, P. rapae, P. melete and P. napi, were studied in an area of their coexistence throughout the flight seasons by using the mark-and-recapture method. The study area, about 3×1.5 km, was set up in a farm village surrounded by the mountainous area in Inabu, Aichi Prefecture. The habitats were qualified by the four factors, i. e., oviposition plants, adult nector plants, roosting-sites and light conditions. Between P. rapae and P. napi, there were sharp differences with regards to overall habitat preferences. P. melete had the widest preferences for all the habitat resources, which overlapped greately with requirements of P. rapae and P. napi. P. melete and P. rapae showed similar preferences for oviposition plants, but the former preferred shaded habitats while the latter preferred sunny places. P. melete and P. napi, having similar preferences for shaded situations, showed differences in the preferences for oviposition plants. Moreover, three species of Pieris were different in their preferences for adult nector plants. Thus, they were more likely to partition habitat resources rather than competing for them. The habitat structures of each species in respect of time, space and stability to weather changes were much different each other in the same area. The habitat of P. rapae was temporary, localized and unstable. While, that of P. melete was more permanent, widespread and stable than that of P. rapae. P. napi seemed to live in the intermediate habitat, i. e., permanent, localized and stable one.  相似文献

Phytophthora collar and crown rots are serious soilborne diseases which for a long time have caused considerable losses in stone fruit orchards in Greece. A number of Phytophthora species are notorious for being the cause of crown and root rots in Greek stone trees, including P. cactorum, P. citricola, P. cryptogea, P. drechsleri, P. nicotianae, P. citrophthora, P. syringae and P. megasperma. The most important Phytophthora species is P. cactorum, while P. syringae and P. citrophthora may be locally significant. The economic consequences from death of peach trees and yield losses caused by this disease in Imathia County are serious.  相似文献

Utilization of patchy habitats by adult populations of three Pieris butterflies, P. rapae, P. melete and P. napi was studied throughout the flight season in an area of their coexistence, about 3×1.5 km, in a farm village in the mountains in Inabu, Aichi Prefecture. Field study was by the mark-recapture method. Results were analyzed by dispersal distances and recapture duration decay curves for adults of different age-classes estimated on the basis of physical condition of their wings, together with supplementary information of daliy egg-laying rate of females, obtained in field cages. Sexually immature, mated femals of P. rapae after teneral stage showed a migratory flight. On the other hand, reproductive females and all males of P. rapae were strongly resident within suitable habitats, and reproductive females begun to lay eggs abundantly at sunny places of newly suitable areas within a short period. P. melete seemed to disperse gradually from emerged stites and females of this species continued to lay some constant numbers of eggs for more than ten days over a wider area. P. napi appeared more like P. melete than P. rapae. The habitats of the three species can be characterized as follows:P. rapae, temporary, continued for pre-reproductive females but localized for reproductive females and all males, and unstable;P. melete, permanent, widespread, and stable;P. napi, permanent, localized, and stable. The numbers of generations of P. rapae, P. melete and P. napi were estimated to be about six, three and three, respectively. Seasonal fluctuations in the number of adults were influenced by the stability of their habitats, i. e., the population size fluctuated sharply in P. rapae, but it was much more stable in P. melete and P. napi. In view of these results, it can be said that P. rapae fits the general characteristics of a r-strategist whereas P. melete and P. napi are more K-strategic than P. rapae.  相似文献

探究不同松树种间杂交可育性,为松树种间杂交育种亲本选配提供依据,进而为松树的杂种优势研究积累材料。该研究利用随机区组设计,通过92个松树种间杂交组合与20个半同胞对照,分析9种松树种间杂交类型子代的平均球果产种数、平均球果产种量、百粒重、发芽率与成苗率5项育性指标,综合球果期、种期与苗期3个阶段的表现,利用模糊数学隶属函数法对不同松树种间杂交类型进行可育性综合评价。结果表明:加勒比松×湿地松(C×E)、湿地松×加勒比松(E×C)与湿地松×火炬松(E×T) 3种杂交类型育性表现优于或接近相应的半同胞对照,马尾松×湿地松(M×E)、马尾松×火炬松(M×T)、马尾松×加勒比松(M×C)、火炬松×加勒比松(T×C)、火炬松×马尾松(T×M)与火炬松×湿地松(T×E)杂交类型育性表现远低于半同胞对照,表现出低育性甚至不育。综合5项育性指标,亚组内杂交育性的整体表现明显优于亚组间杂交;湿地松与加勒比松为母本的3种杂交组合育性表现总体水平明显优于马尾松与火炬松为母本的另外6种杂交组合。9种杂交类型中除了火炬松×湿地松(T×E)外,均获得了具有生活力的杂交子代,尤其马尾松与3种国外松的杂交子代在相关研究中是首次获得,对松树种间杂交育种的研究具有重要意义。  相似文献

The geographic distribution and temporal occurrence of ciliates are still little known. In the present article, the occurrence of the Paramecium aurelia species complex in a natural pond situated in Kraków (Opatkowice) was investigated in different seasons in two following years. A sequence of species occurrence of the P. aurelia complex was observed. Always, paramecia were found only in some sampling points among six points sampled each time and not necessarily in the same ones. Paramecia appearing in one habitat (water body) might occupy different niches characterized by various environmental features suitable for paramecia. The following species were found in the pond: P. biaurelia, P. triaurelia, P. tetraurelia, P. pentaurelia, and P. dodecaurelia. The occurrence of some rare species (P. tetraurelia, P. pentaurelia, and P. dodecaurelia) may be connected with migrating birds which can transport paramecia with drops of water from other water bodies. If a species was observed in successive seasons or years, the possible genetic variation was investigated by analysis of sequences of LSU rDNA and mitochondrial cytb gene fragments. Among the studied species (P. biaurelia, P. triaurelia, P. pentaurelia, and P. dodecaurelia) only P. dodecaurelia showed haplotype variation in different seasons and sampling points, probably caused by the colonization of the pond by different populations of paramecia.  相似文献

A DAPI and ethidium bromide flow cytometric and Feulgen densitometric analysis of genome size variation in Pisum was conducted. The material included 38 accessions of P. sativum of widely different geographic origin and altogether 14 samples of P. elatius, P. abyssinicum, P. humile and P. fulvum. The relative genome size values obtained with the three staining methods were strongly correlated. No evidence for genome size variation was found among P. sativum cultivars. In particular, certain Italian cultivars, for which strongly deviating C-values have been reported, proved to be invariant. The only occasion when ambiguous evidence for marginal genome size variation was found was when all 38 accessions taxonomically affiliated with P. sativum were considered. Pisum abyssinicum and P. fulvum differed from P. sativum by about 1.066-and 1.070-fold, respectively; 1 accession of P. humile differed by 1.089-fold, and 2 of P. elatius by 1.122- and 1.195-fold, respectively (ethidiumbromide comparison), while the other accessions of these taxa were not different from P. sativum. This variation may indicate taxonomic inhomogeneity and demands further investigation. Cultivated P. sativum has long been suspected of not being constant with respect to genome size. As shown here, these findings were not based on genuine differences, but rather were technical in origin.  相似文献

Male sailfin mollies (Poecilia latipinna) can be sexually parasitized by closely related, unisexual, gynogenetic Amazon mollies (Poecilia formosa). This study examined possible cues used by male P. latipinna to distinguish between conspecific females and sympatric, heterospecific P. formosa. Digital photos were used to create models to test male P. latipinna preference for model female P. latipinna and P. formosa with a full suite of traits and altered models of P. latipinna and P. formosa. Male P. latipinna significantly preferred models of either species over no stimulus, demonstrating that models elicit a male response. Males also significantly preferred female P. latipinna models over P. formosa models. We also examined species recognition by female sailfin mollies using the same models, and found that female sailfin mollies significantly preferred to associate with female P. latipinna over P. formosa. These results taken together suggest that the use of fish models yield results similar to those studies using live stimuli. Male preference was then tested for unaltered vs. altered models in the following combinations: (i) P. formosa vs. P. formosa with a female P. latipinna fin; (ii) P. formosa vs. P. formosa with a female P. latipinna lateral spot pattern; (iii) P. formosa vs. P. latipinna with a P. formosa fin and their spotless lateral pattern. Males did not significantly prefer models with any isolated traits over the unaltered P. formosa models. Thus, males may be using traits other than the ones isolated for species recognition or males may be using a suite of multiple traits to recognize conspecific females.  相似文献

Social insects are excellent invaders that have had negative impacts on native species and humans. Many invasive species move from warmer to cooler climates. For these species, thermal adaptations may both be important for their ability to invade and to limit their invasion range. The invasion of Polistes dominulus into North America provides an example of a primitively eusocial invader from a warmer climate. We studied the differences in thermoregulation between P. dominulus and the native P. fuscatus. We found that, during flight, thorax temperature in P. fuscatus was less affected by ambient temperature than thorax temperature of P. dominulus. We also found that P. dominulus and P. fuscatus showed different patterns of warming after removal from a cold environment. Unlike P. dominulus, live P. fuscatus never fully cooled down in a cold environment. P. fuscatus also reached their relative minimum flight temperatures earlier than P. dominulus, but P. dominulus maintained higher elevated temperatures for longer. These differences in thermoregulatory ability suggest that the lower winter survival of P. dominulus could be offset by a greater thermal tolerance during flight, while the lower thermal tolerance of P. fuscatus in flight is offset somewhat by better thermoregulatory ability.  相似文献
