Twenty-four hours locomotive activity and posture of four formosan monkeys were recorded continuously by radio-telemetrical technique. (1) The movement activity were drawn; during day time the activity peak and valley come alternatively. They have three-five activity peak per day. (2) Average of time spent in movement is only 1 hour and 8 minutes however frequencies of movement are very high, average is 557.0 per day. (3) Measured the time spent in and the frequency of orthograde and pronograde posture; orthograde posture occupies 20 hours and 10 minutes. These results signify monkeys are sitting for 84% of the day. The frequency of change posture (moving, sitting, and lying) shows 1477.8 times a day on the average. (4) Observing the social interactions and self-directed responses, behavior pattern were analyzed. The fact that monkeys take the orthograde posture for 84% has a very important evolutionary meaning. Sitting posture (orthograde) is an adaptive behavior derived from arboreal life. The orthograde posture that put on a social basis of fundamental physical condition for bipedalism has already prepared in the forest life.Grant in aid for special project research No. 92031.  相似文献

The prevalence and incidence of musculoskeletal disorders is high with computer workers, and poor sitting posture can be considered a factor contributing to low back discomfort. In the clinical literature, maintaining a neutral spinal curvature has been considered an optimal sitting posture. This study investigated the flexion and lateral flexion of trunk movements and trunk muscle activity during computer work with and without a posture-sensing air seat device (PSASD). By sensing a certain amount of increased pressure over the baseline, posture-related visual feedback was given to participants through the PSASD. Eleven regular computer workers participated in this study. PSASD had the function of alerting the subject to their poor posture by using visual feedback. Subjects performed 20 min of computer work with and without a PSASD. Surface electromyography was used to measure the activity of the erector spine and internal abdominal oblique. Kinematic data were obtained using an electrogoniometer. The results showed that the mean of trunk flexion and lateral flexion was significantly reduced with PSASD. The activity of the erector spine and internal oblique was significantly higher with the PSASD than without. Our findings indicated that the PSASD helps to prevent habitual poor posture by maintaining an erect sitting posture during prolonged computer work.  相似文献

Conventional spectral analyses of heart rate variability (HRV) have been limited to stationary signals and have not allowed the obtainment of information during transient autonomic cardiac responses. In the present study, we evaluated the ability of the short-time Fourier transform (STFT) method to detect transient changes in vagal effects on the heart. We derived high-frequency power (HFP, 0.20-0.40 Hz) as a function of time during active orthostatic task (AOT) from the sitting to standing posture before and after selective vagal (atropine sulfate 0.04 mg/kg) and sympathetic (metoprolol 0.20 mg/kg) blockades. The HFP minimum point during the first 30 s after standing up was calculated and compared with sitting and standing values. Reactivity scores describing the fast and slow HFP responses to AOT were calculated by subtracting the minimum and standing values from the sitting value, respectively. The present results, obtained without controlled respiration, showed that in the drug-free condition, HFP decreased immediately after standing up (P < 0.001) and then gradually increased toward the level characteristic for the standing posture (P < 0.001), remaining lower than in the sitting baseline posture (P < 0.001). The magnitudes of the fast and slow HFP responses to AOT were abolished by the vagal blockade (P < 0.001) and unaffected by the sympathetic blockade. These findings indicate that HFP derived by the STFT method provided a tool for monitoring the magnitude and time course of transient changes in vagal effects on the heart without the need to interfere with normal control by using blocking drugs.  相似文献

Nine healthy men, aged between 25 and 35 years, performed sustained maximal voluntary contractions (MVC) of foot plantar, foot dorsal, and finger flexor muscles. Contractions lasted 10 min and were followed by short test contractions at 30% MVC during recovery. Two positions of the working extremity high or low were established by different body postures (supine or sitting). Under these conditions, studies of force, integrated electromyogram (iEMG), blood pressure, and heart rate showed firstly that force decreased throughout the first few minutes of maximal contraction but reached a near steady-state value after 5 to 6 min. Secondly, force decay and steady-state level depended on muscle group and body position. When sitting (low leg), muscles with a high incidence of slow twitch fibres (plantar flexors) showed a slower force decay and a higher relative steady-state force than fast dorsal flexor muscles. When supine (high leg), plantar and dorsal flexor muscles reached about the same low level of relative steady-state force. Changes in iEMG, blood pressure, and heart rate did not differ in the two positions. Thirdly, during recovery, plantar flexor muscles showed higher iEMG values as well as higher values of blood pressure and heart rate when supine than when sitting. Recovery of dorsal flexor muscles was little affected by body posture. Fourthly, force development and recovery of predominantly fast finger flexor muscles were almost independent of arm position. It was concluded that muscle fibre composition was the main factor in determining endurance capacity. However, endurance was influenced by changes in the hydrostatic blood pressure component.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Variation of body height during the day has been analyzed considering the influence of various occupations (standing, sitting, mixed) on the posture. In addition to this the following variables have been recorded on the 302 individuals under study: Sex, age, working time, time of getting up in the morning, kind of occupation, physique, sporting activities in the leisure-time, presence of defects of the spinal column, possibility of changes of the carriage at the working place and extensibility of the spinal column. The statistical analysis showed that with the exception of pathological alterations of the spinal column all these variables are influencing the variation of body height during the day. It could also be shown that the extensibility of the spinal column does not vary during the day. The author is discussing also ergonomical rules concerning the organization of working places for standing and sitting occupations. Finally some recommendations for the future organization of such places are given.  相似文献

Eight young men (group A) underwent 5 h of quiet sitting, preceded by 30 min of recumbency, 20 min of standing, and 20 s of walking, and five other young men (group B) underwent 70 min of sitting, preceded by recumbency only, to determine the effects of prolonged sitting and previous posture on hemodynamic responses (measured by impedance plethysmography). Group A showed more calf blood pooling and a decrease in thigh blood flow during sitting in comparison with the control group, but after 1 h of sitting hemodynamic responses of the two groups were similar. Sitting for 5 h (1st vs. 5th h) resulted in an increase in calf venous pooling (17%) and a decrease in calf BF (13%), a reduction in gravitational pooling in the thigh (corresponding to increased pooling in the calf), increases in diastolic and mean arterial pressures (6 and 7.3 mmHg, respectively), and minor changes in heart rate, stroke volume, and cardiac output. The results show that it is necessary to sit for 1 h before hemodynamic responses can be assessed in this position, regardless of the posture maintained previously. The main effect of prolonged sitting is pooling in the calf, which is compensated for by an increase in peripheral resistance.  相似文献

To determine the effects of posture on the venodilatory response to nitroglycerin (TNG), the change in forearm venous volume after inflation of an upper arm cuff to 30 mmHg above cuff zero (VV[30]) was measured during control conditions and after TNG (0.8 mg spray) in 18 healthy young volunteers in the supine position and the sitting position. VV[30] was 3.24 +/- 0.98 ml/100 ml arm in the supine position and 2.46 +/- 1.32 ml/100 ml arm in the sitting position. TNG increased VV[30] by 0.56 +/- 0.19 ml/100 ml arm in supine subjects, but by only 0.38 +/- 0.17 ml/100 ml arm in sitting subjects (P = 0.013). When limb volume was measured in the forearm and calf without using a cuff to produce venous congestion, the increase in limb volume with TNG was significantly greater in the sitting than in the supine position. Because the fall in both systolic and diastolic pressure and the rise in heart rate were significantly greater after TNG was administered in the sitting position, it is suggested that a greater reflex venoconstriction occurred in this posture, which antagonized the TNG-induced increase in venous distensibility. In the seated position, the effect of gravity more than compensated for the impaired venodilatory response to TNG. These results suggest that TNG causes a greater reduction in venous return to the heart when administered in the sitting position than in the supine position.  相似文献

For female workers in a computer factory in Japan, consisting of 41 daytime workers and 74 weekly-rotating shift workers (of whom, 37 each were engaged in, respectively, early-shift work and late-shift work during the survey week), within-day variations in the number of fatigue complaints were elucidated. Based on a repeated questionnaire survey, changes of fatigue complaints in a day were evaluated at three occasions, i.e., just before work, just after work, and before retiring, for three working days and one off day. The occasions of fatigue feelings differed among the three work groups: the complaints were significantly more frequent before work in the early-shift workers, after work in the late-shift workers, and before retiring in the daytime workers. Feeling of fatigue before and after work may be disadvantageous to safety and efficiency of work.  相似文献

Musculoskeletal and emotional disorders are important causes of reported diseases, causing medical absences, and eventually earlier decrease of work ability. This paper reports the results of a study carried out among practical nurses working at the Orthopedics and Trauma Institute. The objectives of the study were: (a) to describe the routine activities performed during day and night shifts, and (b) to compare the work activities performed in different wards during these shifts. A Brazilian version of the Work Ability Index--WAI (TUOMI et al., 1994) was answered by 83 practical nurses. Forty-three of them (52%) reported pains or musculoskeletal diseases, either based on their own opinion or diagnosed by a physician. These nurses were invited to join the second phase of the study and twenty-nine accepted it. All work activities performed in 29 shifts were observed and recorded. The results showed that day shifts were far more demanding in terms of the number of activities related to patients' care than afternoon and night shifts. Also, body postures associated with day work activities demanded important physical efforts. The number of nurses in charge during night shifts was substantially lower than during day shifts. This could lead to an overload and affect the health of the nurses.

Otolith organs have been shown to activate the sympathetic nervous system in the prone position by head-down rotation (HDR) in humans. To date, otolithic stimulation by HDR has not been comprehensively studied in the upright posture. The purpose of the present study was to determine whether otolithic stimulation increases muscle sympathetic nerve activity (MSNA) in the upright posture. It was hypothesized that stimulation of the otolith organs would increase MSNA in the upright posture, despite increased baseline sympathetic activation due to unloading of the baroreceptors. MSNA, arterial blood pressure, heart rate, and degree of head rotation were measured during HDR in 18 volunteers (23 +/- 1 yr) in different postures. Study 1 (n = 11) examined HDR in the prone and sitting positions and study 2 (n = 7) examined HDR in the prone and 60 degrees head-up tilt positions. Baseline MSNA was 8 +/- 4, 15 +/- 4, and 33 +/- 2 bursts/min for prone, sitting, and head-up tilt, respectively. HDR significantly increased MSNA in the prone (Delta4 +/- 1 and Delta105 +/- 37% for burst frequency and total activity, respectively), sitting (Delta5 +/- 1 and Delta43 +/- 12%), and head-up tilt (Delta7 +/- 1 and Delta110 +/- 41%; P < 0.05). Sensitivity of the vestibulosympathetic reflex (%DeltaMSNA/DeltaHDR; degree of head rotation) was significantly greater in the sitting and head-up tilt than prone position (prone = 74 +/- 22; sitting = 109 +/- 30; head-up tilt = 276 +/- 103; P < 0.05). These data indicate that stimulation of the otolith organs can mediate increases in MSNA in the upright posture and suggest a greater sensitivity of the vestibulosympathetic reflex in the upright posture in humans.  相似文献

Withdrawal of captopril therapy for cardiac failure results in increments in plasma cortisol, noradrenaline and heart rate. To determine whether these changes related to the concomitant rise in circulating angiotensin II, we infused angiotensin II at 0.5, 2, 4 and 8 ng/kg/minute, each infusion lasting for 1 hour, in 4 patients during maintenance captopril therapy for heart failure. A control solution of 5% dextrose was infused over a similar time interval on a separate day. The study was performed under metabolic balance conditions, with constant body posture and continuous haemodynamic monitoring. Angiotensin II induced the expected rise in arterial pressure and in plasma aldosterone. In contrast the diurnal decline in plasma ACTH and cortisol was not altered, and no changes in noradrenaline or heart rate were observed. Plasma angiotensin II appears to have little or no effect on ACTH, cortisol, noradrenaline and heart rate under the conditions of this study.  相似文献

Simultaneous measurements were made of changes in vascular resistance in the forearm and calf in response to moving from supine to sitting or to head-down tilt. The subjects were healthy male volunteers, 21-63 yr. Blood flows were measured by venous occlusion plethysmography using mercury-in-Silastic strain-gauges. The gauges were maintained at the same level relative to the heart during the postural changes. Arterial blood pressure was measured by auscultation; heart rate was counted from the plethysmograms. Changing from supine to sitting caused a decrease in forearm blood flow from 4.13 +/- 0.14 to 2.16 +/- 0.19 ml.100 ml-1.min-1. Corresponding calf flows were 4.21 +/- 0.32 and 4.40 +/- 0.59 ml.100 ml-1.min-1. There was no change in mean arterial blood pressure, and heart rate increased by 8.0 +/- 1.5 beats/min. Arrest of the circulation of both legs with occlusion cuffs on the thighs before sitting, to prevent pooling of blood in them, reduced the degree of forearm vasoconstriction. Neck suction (40 Torr) during sitting, to oppose the decrease in transmural pressure at the carotid sinuses, inhibited the vasoconstriction. During a 30 degrees head-down tilt, there was a dilatation of forearm but not of calf resistance vessels. A Valsalva maneuver caused a similar constriction of both vascular beds. Thus, when changes in vascular resistance in forearm and calf are compared, the major reflex adjustments to changes in posture take place in the forearm.  相似文献

Here we report the resting metabolic rate in barnacle geese (Branta leucopsis) and provide evidence for the significant energetic effect of posture. Under laboratory conditions flow-through respirometry together with synchronous recording of behaviour enabled a calculation of how metabolic rate varies with posture. Our principal finding is that standing bipedally incurs a 25% increase in metabolic rate compared to birds sitting on the ground. In addition to the expected decrease in energy consumption of hindlimb postural muscles when sitting, we hypothesise that a change in breathing mechanics represents one potential mechanism for at least part of the observed difference in energetic cost. Due to the significant effect of posture, future studies of resting metabolic rates need to take into account and/or report differences in posture.  相似文献

The purpose was to reveal the effects of stress on the parameters of cognitive performance and cardiovascular system activities in controllers working 12-hour shifts. Sixteen controllers were studied, and altogether 384 subject observations were acquired. A 5-point scale was used to estimate the perceived level of stress experienced by the controllers. Increased heart rate and heart activity-related haemodynamic parameters were found with an increase in perceived stress. Decreases found in heart rate, circulatory minute volume, and Kerdo's vegetative index over the shift became less pronounced with increased stress. Better attention was found under the average level of stress that was found on the first day shift. An effect of stress on short-term memory was not revealed. As a whole, the most pronounced changes were found during the first day shift and less pronounced changes appeared during the first night shift. Effects of stress were not found in changes of the studied parameters during the second consecutive day or night shift. Thus, increased stress causes the activation of some psychophysiological functions (attention and cardiac activity) that are indispensable for high work efficiency under increased production demands. However, the necessary activation could not be maintained during the second consecutive 12-hour shifts, probably because of accumulated fatigue, and also night work. On the other hand, too high stress may lead to the excessive activation of cardiac activity and deterioration of attention.  相似文献

We examined the effect of post-prandial body posture on orocecal transit time and absorption of milk lactose using the breath hydrogen test. In this experiment, subjects ingested a cup of commercially available milk to which we had added a small amount of lactosucrose (an indigestible trisaccharide), and then they lay on their backs or sat on a chair for the first 4 hr (from 08:00 to 12:00). After four hours lying or sitting, they remained sedentary on a sofa for the second six hr (from 12:00 to 18:00). Participants' end alveolar breath samples were collected every 15 min from 08:00 to 12:30, then every 30 min from 13:00 to 18:00. The experiment was conducted on two consecutive days using a randomized, crossover study design. Examination showed that the orocecal transit time of the oligosaccharides (lactosucrose and milk lactose) under the post-prandial supine condition was significantly longer than that under the sitting condition. In addition, the amount of breath hydrogen excretion under the supine condition was significantly lower than under the sitting condition, indicating that the unabsorbed milk lactose moved into cecum under the supine condition is smaller than that under the sitting condition. These findings provide evidence that postprandial supine posture works more beneficially to digest and absorb milk lactose when compared to the sitting posture.  相似文献

Adaptation to shift-work is influenced by the way workers schedule their lives, including allocation of sleep episodes. Female workers (n = 29) engaged at an assembly line were studied as to individual differences in sleep parameters in order to verify whether those differences could be related to the manifestation of sleep and fatigue complaints. The sample was composed of women (20–40 y) working at night from Monday to Friday. Sleep data were based on daily sleep logs which were filled out by the workers for 10 consecutive weeks. In the analyses of sleep data both diurnal episodes between consecutive night shifts and noctural sleep episodes preceding working nights were taken into account. Worker's complaints were analyzed through questions extracted from an interview form encompassing questions on fatigue associated with the work schedule and on dissatisfaction with sleep on weekdays and weekends. The analysis of diurnal episodes showed no significant correlation between the total amount of sleep per day and the total number of complaints. Nevertheless, the latter was correlated to the length of the first sleep episode on a day, which usually began in the morning. As to sleep onset times, significant correlations were not detected concerning the first diurnal episodes. The analysis of nocturnal episodes did not reveal any significant correlation between sleep parameters and complaints. Results indicate that workers whose sleep onsets were allocated to the morning and were able to sleep for many consecutive hours, tended to show less complaints, suggesting that the temporal allocation of diurnal sleep and its length are relevant in the determination of how these workers perceive fatigue and sleep quality.  相似文献

The effects of supine posture on airway responses to inhaled methacholine and deep inspiration (DI) were studied in seven male volunteers. On a control day, subjects were in a seated position during both methacholine inhalation and lung function measurements. On a second occasion, the whole procedure was repeated with the subjects lying supine for the entire duration of the study. On a third occasion, methacholine was inhaled from the seated position and measurements were taken in a supine position. Finally, on a fourth occasion, methacholine was inhaled from the supine position and measurements were taken in the seated position. Going from sitting to supine position, the functional residual capacity decreased by approximately 1 liter in all subjects. When lung function measurements (pulmonary resistance, dynamic elastance, residual volume, and maximal flows) were taken in supine position, the response to methacholine was greater than at control, and this was associated with a greater dyspnea and a faster recovery of dynamic elastance after DI. By contrast, when methacholine was inhaled in supine position but measurements were taken in sitting position, the response to methacholine was similar to control day. These findings document the potential of the decrease in the operational lung volumes in eliciting or sustaining airflow obstruction in nocturnal asthma. It is speculated that the exaggerated response to methacholine in the supine posture may variably contribute to airway smooth muscle adaptation to short length, airway wall edema, and faster airway renarrowing after a large inflation.  相似文献

Reports in the scientific literature and lay press have suggested that computer users are at increased risk of upper extremity musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). Early studies often found elevated rates of MSD outcomes among keyboard users when compared to non-users. Attention soon focused on specific aspects of keyboard work that might be responsible for the observed rate increase. In this review, the epidemiological evidence examining associations between MSD outcomes and computer user posture and keyboard use intensity (hours of computer use per day or per week) are examined. Results of epidemiological studies of posture and MSD outcomes have not been entirely consistent. Reasons for the inconsistency in results include cross-sectional study design (with possible failure to assure that measured exposure preceded health effect), imprecision of posture measures used, and difficulties involved in analyzing multiple related variables. Despite the inconsistencies, it appears from the literature that posture is an independent risk factor of modest magnitude for MSDs among computer users. It appears that lowering the height of the keyboard to or below the height of the elbow and resting the arms on the desk surface or chair armrests is associated with reduced risk of neck and shoulder MSDs. Results of epidemiological studies examining computer use (hours keying per day or per week) are more consistent than those examining posture, although some inconsistency is observed. Reasons for the inconsistency include possible selective survival bias resulting from cross-sectional study design, differences in exposure categorization, and possible interaction with other exposure variables. Overall, the literature shows that daily or weekly hours of computer use is more consistently associated with hand and arm MSDs than with neck and shoulder MSDs.  相似文献
