Understanding of the physiological responses of kelp to environmental parameters is crucial, especially in the context of environmental change that may have contributed to the decline of kelp forests all over the world. The current study presents the photosynthetic characteristics of the macroscopic sporophyte and microscopic gametophyte stages of the brown alga Alaria crassifolia from Hokkaido, Japan, as determined by examining their photosynthetic responses over a range of temperature and irradiance using dissolved oxygen and chlorophyll fluorescence measurements. Net photosynthetic rates of the sporophyte were consistently higher than those of gametophyte across temperature gradients and irradiance levels. Photosynthesis–irradiance curves at 8°C, 16°C, and 20°C revealed similar initial slopes (α = 0.4–0.9) on the two life history stages, but higher compensation (E c = 4–7 μmol photons m?2 s?1) and saturation irradiances (E k = 53–103 μmol photons m?2 s?1) for the sporophyte than for the gametophyte (E c = 0–7 μmol photons m?2 s?1; E k = 7–10 μmol photons m?2 s?1). Both stages exhibited chronic photoinhibition, as shown by the failure of recovery in their maximum quantum yields (F v/F m) following high irradiance stress, with greater possibility of photodamage at low temperature. Gametophytes were less sensitive to low temperatures than sporophytes, given their relatively stable F v/F m response. Nevertheless, temperature optima for photosynthesis of both stages coincide with each other at 20–23°C, which correspond to the growth and maturation periods of A. crassifolia in Japan. This species is also likely to suffer from thermal inhibition as both GP rates and F v/F m decreased above 24°C.  相似文献

Relative weight (Wr) is an important and commonly used condition index that provides a measure of the well‐being of a fish population by comparing the actual weight of a specimen with the ideal weight of a specimen of the same species and of the same length in good physiological condition, i.e. the standard weight (Ws). Two methods of calculating the standard weight are proposed in the literature: the RLP method and the EmP method. The aim of this study was to develop a standard weight equation for European perch by means of both methods, using length–weight data from 64 913 fish from 18 countries (across Europe and Oceania). The resulting equations were: log10 (Ws) = ?3.1483 + 1.2663 log10 (TL) + 0.4291 [log10 (TL)]2 for the EmP method and log10 (Ws) = ?5.3493 + 3.2152 log10 (TL) for the RLP method. The applicable length‐range of the two Ws equations was restricted to 80–460 mm. A further research aim was to compare the performances of RLP and EmP. The resulting quadratic EmP Ws equation did not exhibit length‐related biases, which suggests that it can be used to compute relative weight for European perch.  相似文献

Total length (LT) (range 24–1000 mm; mean ±s.e . = 170·21 ± 0·36 mm) and mass (W) (range 0·10–9590 g; mean ±s.e . = 76·03 ± 0·87 g) of 36 460 specimens of marble trout Salmo marmoratus were used to compute a standard mass (Ws) equation for this species by means of the empirical percentile (EmP) method. The EmP Ws equation calculated was: log10Ws = ?5·208 + 3·202 log10LT? 0·046 (log10LT)2 (LT range 90–570 mm) and it is valid throughout the species' area of distribution across Europe.  相似文献

This study investigated the age and growth characteristics of spiny gurnard, Lepidotrigla dieuzeidei, from the northeastern Mediterranean. Samples were collected by commercial trawls during the 2012–2013 fishing seasons. A total 1,878 speciments ranged from 7.10 to 15.90 cm total length and 2.28–35.88 g in weight. Female/male ratio was 1.2/1. The total length–weight relationship was W = 0.002 TL3.579 (r² = .909) for sexes combined, W = 0.0021 TL3.551 (r² = .914) for males and W = 0.0019 TL3.602 (r² = .904) for females. Age determination was conducted using the sagittal otoliths. Ages of examined individulas ranged from 3 to 11 years. Total length‐at‐age data were fitted using the von Bertalanffy growth model. Estimated growth functions were TLt = 18.100 [1?e?0.14 (t + 0.63)] for sexes combined, TLt = 23.587 [1?e?0.08 (t + 1.56)] for males and TLt = 16.612 [1?e?0.19 (t + 0.15)] for females.  相似文献

We determined the effect of irradiance and temperature on the photosynthesis of two heteromorphic life‐history stages of an endangered freshwater red alga, Thorea gaudichaudii (Thoreales) by laboratory and field measurements. Net oxygenic photosynthesis–irradiance models of macroscopic and microscopic life‐history stages revealed similar low irradiance‐adapted responses, with a compensation irradiance (Ec) of 6.71 and 2.56 μmol photons m?2 s?1 (4.30–9.13 and 0.13–7.19, 95% Bayesian prediction interval, BPI) and saturating irradiance (Ek) of 26.6 and 30.0 μmol photons m?2 s?1 (19.0–37.4 and 12.1–63.0, BPI), respectively. A temperature‐dependent model of net photosynthesis and dark respiration in macroscopic and microscopic stages also showed similar temperature responses, and the gross photosynthetic rate (GPmax), 3.54 and 6.34 μg O2 gww?1 min?1 (3.10–3.99 and 5.31–8.21, BPI), was highest at 32.1 and 35.7°C (29.8–34.0 and 29.5–48.6, BPI). The maximum quantum yields (F v/F m) in macroscopic and microscopic stages were also similar in response with respect to temperature; however, it was somewhat steady at low temperatures with the highest value of 0.54 and 0.62 (0.54–0.55 and 0.61–0.63, BPI) at 17.8 and 15.0°C (16.7–18.8 and 12.3–17.1, BPI). The effective quantum yield (Φ PSII) in macroscopic and microscopic stages was also negatively correlated with irradiance, which decreased after 12 h of continuous exposure to 50 (low) and 1000 (high) μmol photons m?2 s?1 at 12 and 22°C. Large declines of Φ PSII and subsequent failure of F v/F m recovery were particularly enhanced at high irradiance, signifying photoinhibition. Diurnal change of Φ PSII and incident irradiance of the macroscopic stage under the field measurement revealed the midday depression of Φ PSII; however, there was little direct sunlight due to shading by the trees, and algae were occurring in the shaded locations in the freshwater spring.  相似文献

This study aimed to determine the age and some growth characteristics of Atlantic stargazer (Uranoscopus scaber) from Iskenderun Bay (Northeastern Mediterranean). For this purpose, a total of 150 Atlantic stargazer ranging in size from 9.1 to 28.0 cm in total length (weight: 11.7–345.7 g) were collected as by-catch from a commercial trawl fishing boat at a depth of 80–100 m between May 2015 and January 2016. The bottom trawl gear used was equipped with a 44 mm stretched mesh size net at the cod-end. The percentage of females and males were 46.7% and 53.3% respectively. The total length–weight relationships equation with coefficient of determination (R2) were found as W = 0.011*TL3.131, R2 = .9728, for all individuals, W = 0.015*TL3.021, R2 = .9512 for females and W = 0.0102*TL3.136, R2 = .9553 for males. By using the von Bertalanffy equation, the growth parameters of Atlantic stargazer were estimated to be L = 42.35 cm, k = 0.098, t0 = −1.8474 for all individuals; L = 36.92 cm, k = 0.138, t0 = −1.2693 for females and L = 38.77 cm, k = 0.1, t0 = −2.334 for males. In this study, age reading was done by two independent readers and index of average percentage error (IAPE) was calculated as 6.1%. The highest condition factor value calculated as 1.81 in the age group 6 and the lowest condition factor value was calculated as 1.48 in the age group 1.  相似文献

In this study, the population structure, growth and reproduction characteristics of 414 chub (Leuciscus cephalus L., 1758) from the ?kizcetepeler dam lake were investigated monthly between January and December 2000. Age groups ranged between I and VI for this species in the reservoir, with the second and third year‐classes dominating. Sex ratio was 1 : 1.4 (M : F), corresponding to 58.4% males and 41.6% females. Females attained greater size and age than males. The largest female captured was 24.8 cm FL, the largest male was 24.1 cm FL, both age VI. The von Bertalanffy growth equations and length–weight relationships were found as: Lt = 28.89[1 ?e?0.224(t+1.55)] for females, Lt = 26.71[1 ? e?0.259(t+1.55)] for males; Wt = 347.386[1?e?0.224h (t+1.55)]2.86 for females, Wt =286.48[1?e?0.259 (t+1.55)]2.92 for males; W = 0.0227 × L2.87 for females and W = 0.0194 × L2.92 for males. Significant statistical differences in condition factors between age classes and sexes were not found (P > 0.05, t‐test). Spawning period of this species in the lake was between April and May.  相似文献

The maximum quantum yield of photosystem II was estimated from variable chlorophyll a fluorescence in samples of phytoplankton collected from the Taihu Lake in China to determine the responses of different phytoplankters to irradiance and vertical mixing. Meteorological and environmental variables were also monitored synchronously. The maximum quantum yield of three phytoplankton groups: cyanobacteria, chlorophytes, and diatoms/dinoflagellates, showed a similar diurnal change pattern. F v/F m decreased with a significant depth-dependent variation as irradiance increased during the morning and increased as irradiance declined in the afternoon. Furthermore, the rates of F v/F m depression were dependent upon the photon flux density, whereas the rates of recovery of F v/F m were dependent upon the historical photon density. Moreover, photoinhibition affected the instantaneous growth rates of phytoplankton. Although at noon cyanobacteria had a higher photoinhibition value (up to 41%) than chlorophytes (32%) and diatoms/dinoflagellates (34%) at the surface, no significant difference in diurnal growth rates among the three phytoplankton groups were observed indicating that cyanobacteria could photoacclimate better than chlorophytes and diatoms/dinoflagellates. In addition, cyanobacteria had a higher nonphotochemical quenching value than chlorophytes and diatoms/dinoflagellates at the surface at noon, which indicated that cyanobacteria were better at dissipating excess energy. The ratios of enclosed bottle samples F v/F m to free lake samples F v/F m showed different responses for the three phytoplankton groups to irradiance and vertical mixing when wind speed was approximately constant at about 3.0 m s−1. When wind speed was lower than 3.0 m s−1, cyanobacteria accumulated mainly at the surface and 0.3 m, because of their positive buoyancy, where diurnal growth rates of phytoplankton were relatively higher than those at 0.6 m and 0.9 m. Chlorophytes were homogenized completely by vertical mixing, while diatoms/dinoflagellates avoided active high irradiance by moving downward at noon, and then upward again when irradiance decreased. These results explain the dominance of cyanobacteria in Taihu Lake. Handling editor: L. Naselli-Flores  相似文献

Growth parameters in pikeperch may be affected by several factors. The purpose of this study was to investigate the growth and length–weight of pikeperch in a reservoir in south‐western Spain and compare the results with previous published data. Age and growth are described for Sander lucioperca from the Alcántara Reservoir (south‐western Spain) from March to October 2009. A total of 285 fish were examined; the ratio of males to females was estimated as 0.78:1 and age ranges as 1–5 years. Total lengths ranged from 16.1 to 52.5 cm. The length–weight relationships were described as W = 0.00 462 TL3.09 (r = 0.9865) for males and W = 0.00279 TL3.16 (r = 0.9921) for females. Growth was expressed in length and the von Bertalanffy growth parameters were estimated as L∞ = 92.14 cm, k = 0.09, t0 = ?1.05 for males and L∞ = 107.72 cm, k = 0.08, t0 = ?1.16 for females. Growth performance indexes were also estimated as Φ’ = 2.88 for males and Φ’ = 2.96 for females. Differences in growth and length–weight relationships between sexes were not found.  相似文献

The condition, CI = [body mass (g)/length (cm)3]-1000, tends to increase in toads growing in the laboratory on a diet of meal-worms. The allocation was therefore studied of ingested food to growth corresponding to maintenance of standard condition (ΔWS) and to increases in condition, expressing bulky growth. A condition index of 100, typical of toad populations, is chosen to characterize standard growth, higher values expressing bulky growth. The relationship between mass specific standard growth (ΔWs/W0) and actual growth in mass (ΔW/W0) was the same in controls and growth hormone-treated toads and was independent of sex and season. It could be described by the allometric equation ΔWs/W0 = 0.28 (ΔW/W0)1.36, r = 0.93. The composition of mass representing increases in bulk in excess of a CI = 100 was assessed from allometric relationships established between the indices of the chemical constituents and the overall condition index. The increases in condition were partitioned among the organs and parts of the body from allometric relationships established between indices of organs and body parts and the overall condition index. Treatment with growth hormone enhanced growth in mass and significantly increased the relative proportion of mass allocated to standard growth. However, the effect was not specific to growth hormone, but was an indirect effect of the increased growth rate. Water was the predominant constituent of the growth in bulk, amounting to about 70% of increases in CI. Fat and protein contributed about equally initially, 5–10%, with fat strongly increasing and protein slightly decreasing with increasing condition, fat to approach 20–30% when CI approached 200. Increases in water content largely reflected increases in volume of blood and lymph.  相似文献

Soil respiration is affected by vegetation and environmental conditions. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of vegetation type on soil respiration, temperature and water content, and their correlations on a small scale. We measured soil respiration rate (Rs) over a 3-year period at biweekly intervals in three plots in the eastern Loess Plateau of China, with the same soil texture but different vegetation types: pine forest, grassland, and shrub land. Simultaneously, soil temperature (Ts) at 10 cm depth and soil water content (Ws) within 10 cm depth were measured. The seasonal course of Rs and Ts showed a similar temporal variation in the three plots, with higher values in summer and autumn and lower values in winter and spring. No significant differences (P>0.05) were found between plots, except for Ws. The mean cumulative release of CO2 efflux from March to December was 962.5, 1027.5, and 1166.5 g C m? 2 a? 1 for plots 1, 2, and 3, respectively, with no significant difference between plots. The fitted exponential equations of Rs versus Ts from the 3-year data-set were significant (P < 0.05) with an R2 of 0.72, 0.64, and 0.72 for plots 1, 2, and 3, respectively. The calculated Q10 from the parameters of the fitted equation was 3.57, 3.52, and 3.61, and the R10 was 2.36, 2.03, and 2.37 μmol CO2 m? 2 s? 1 for plots 1, 2, and 3, respectively. Compared with the Ts, the correlations between Rs and Ws were not significant for the three plots. However, if the Ts was above 10°C, then their correlation was significant, and Ws had an impact on Rs. Four combined regression equations including two variables of Ts and Ws could be well established to model correlations between Rs and both Ts and Ws. Our study demonstrated that the exponential and power model fitted best and no significant different correlations of combined equations existed between the three plots. These results show that vegetation type had little impact on Rs, Ts, Ws, and their correlations, as well as on related parameters such as Q10 and R10. Therefore, while doing Rs research in a horizontal patchy vegetation conditions on a small area, the sampling location of measurements should focus on vertical dominant vegetation and ignore patch vegetation so as to reduce field work load.  相似文献

Intraoperative smoke‐generation limits the quality of vision during laparoscopic/endoscopic laser‐assisted surgeries. The current study aimed at the evaluation of factors affecting this phenomenon. As a first step, a suitable experimental setup and a test tissue model were established for this investigation. The experimental setup is composed of a specific sample container, a laser therapy component suitable for the ablation of model tissue at different treatment wavelengths (λ = 980 nm, 1350 nm, 1470 nm), a suction unit providing continuous smoke extraction, and a detection unit for smoke quantification via detection of light (λ = 633 nm) scattered from smoke particles. The ablation rate (AR) was calculated by dividing the ablated volume by the ablation time (60 sec). The laser‐induced scattering signal intensity of the smoke (SI) was determined from time‐charts of the signal intensity as a measure for vision, in addition a delay‐time tdelay could be derived defining the onset of SI after the laser was switched on. The ratio SI/AR is used as a measure for smoke generation in relation to the ablation rate. Additionally the light transmission of the tissue samples was used to estimate their optical properties. In this set‐up, smoke generation using λ = 980 nm as ablation laser wavelength was detected after a delay‐time tdelay = (121.6 ± 24.8) sec which is significantly longer compared to the wavelengths λ = 1350 nm with tdelay = (89.8 ± 19.3) sec and λ = 1470 nm with tdelay = (24.7 ± 5.4) sec. Thus, the delay

Experimental set‐up consisting of sample container, laser therapy component, suction unit and scattered‐light detection compartment. time is wavelength‐dependent. The SI/AR ratio was significantly different (p < 0.001) for 1470 nm irradiation compared to 980 nm irradiation [SI/AR(1470) = (11.8 ± 2.6) · 103 vs. SI/AR(980) = (8.6 ± 2.0) · 103]. The ablation crater for 980 nm irradiation was comparable with 1470 nm irradiation, but the coagulation rim was thicker in the 980 nm case. In conclusion, it could be shown experimentally that smoke‐generation depends on the wavelength used for laser ablation.  相似文献

1. The elimination rate of radiocaesium in brown trout Salmo trutta L. was determined in the laboratory at four water temperatures (range 4.4–15.6°C). In the experiments three or four homogenous size-groups of fish (mean weights 23–496 g) were studied at each temperature. 2. The brown trout received acute oral doses of 134Cs and were killed at intervals for radioactivity counting. The retention versus time curves were composed of two distinct exponential components. The long-lived component was quantitatively the most important for retention of radiocaesium. Elimination rate increased with increasing water temperature and decreased with increasing body weight. 3. The biological half-life of 134Cs (Tb, days) was related to fresh body weight (W, g) and water temperature (t, °C) by the equation: Tb= 290 ×W°.176× e-°.106×t. The elimination rate of Cs could be predicted from weight-specific metabolic rate as given by Elliott's equations for brown trout.  相似文献

Energy costs and energy sources in karate (wado style) were studied in eight male practitioners (age 23.8 years, mass. 72.3 kg, maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) 36.8 ml · min–1 · kg–1) performing six katas (formal, organized movement sequences) of increasing duration (from approximately. 10 s to approximately 80 s). Oxygen consumption (VO2) was determined during pre-exercise rest, the exercise period and the first 270 s of recovery in five consecutive expired gas collections. A blood sample for lactate (la) analysis was taken 5 min after the end of exercise. The overall amount of O2 consumed during the exercise and in the following recovery increased linearly with the duration of exercise (t) from approximately 1.51 (for t equal to 10.5 s (SD 1.6)) to approximately 5.81, for t equal to 81.5 s (SD 1.0). The energy release from la production (VO21a ) calculated assuming that an increase of 1 mmol · l–1 la corresponded to a VO2 of 3 mlO2 · kg–1 was negligible for t equal to or less than 20 s and increased to 17.3 ml · kg–1 (la = 5.8 mmol · l–1 above resting values) for t equal approximately to 80 s. The overall energy requirement (VO2eq) as given by the sum of VO2 and VO2la was described by VO2eq = 0.87 + 0.071 · t (n = 64; r 2 = 0.91), where VO2eq is in litres and t in seconds. This equation shows that the metabolic power (VO2eq · t –1) for this karate style is very high: from approximately 9.51 · min–1 for t equal to 10 s to approximately 4.91 · min–1 for t equal to 80 s, i.e. from 3.5 to 1.8 times the subjects' VO2max. The fraction of VO2eq derived from the amount of O2 consumed during the exercise increased from 11% for t equal to 10 s to 41 % for t equal to 80 s whereas VO21a was negligible far t equal to or less than 20 s and increased to 13 % o for t equal to 80 s. The remaining fraction (from 90% for t equal to 10 s to 46% for t equal to 80 s), corresponding to the amount of O2 consumed in the recovery after exercise, is derived from anaerobic alactic sources, i.e. from net splitting of high energy phosphates during the exercise.  相似文献

The relationship between work rate () and time to exhaustion (t) during intense exercise is commonly described by either a hyperbolic function (NLin), t=W /( cp), or by its linear equivalent (LinW) W lim =W + cp(t). The parameter <INF </INF>cp (critical power) has been described as an inherent characteristic of the aerobic energy system, while W ′ has been shown to be a ralid estimate of anaerobic work capacity. Recent studies have demonstrated that oral supplementation of creatine monohydrate (CrH2O) increases total muscle creatine stores, and have linked these increases to improved performances in intense intermittent exercise. This study was conducted to determine the effect of CrH2O supplementation on estimates of W ′ and <INF </INF>cp derived from the NLin and LinW equations, and to determine the effect of CrH2O on t in exhaustive constant power exercise of different intensities. Fifteen active but untrained university students completed three phases of testing on a cycle ergometer: (1) familiarization, three learning trials, (2) baseline determination of W ′ and <INF </INF>cp, four bouts performed at a selected to elicit fatigue in 90–600 s, and (3) experimental determination of W ′ and cp, four bouts performed at the same as baseline, but performed after 5 days of ingesting either a placebo (4 × 6 g of glucose/day) or CrH2O (4 × 5 g of CrH2O and 1 g glucose/day). Testing was administered in a double-blind manner. Analyses of covariance revealed a significant effect for CrH2O on both estimates of W ′ (NLin, P=0.04; LinW, P<0.01), but not on estimates of cp (NLin, P=0.37; LinW; P=0.30). Within groups, t was significantly different for only CrH2O at the two highest s (P=0.04). It is concluded that oral ingestion of CrH2O increases estimates of W ′ due to an improved t at the shorter, more intense exercise bouts. Accepted: 1 September 1997  相似文献

The length to weight ratio (LWR) was used to estimate populations of four fish species sampled on the Amazon coast of the state of Maranhão, Brazil. The fishes were sampled in 2018 and 2019 by artisanal coastal fishing, using gillnets (0.20–0.60 mm). The parameters a and b of the equation WT = a LTb were estimated. The obtained LWRs were WT = 0.06LT2.93, (r2) = .989 for Oligoplites saliens; WT = 0.061LT2.57, (r2) = .982 for Peprilus crenulatus; WT = 0.014LT2.80, (r2) = .985 for Bagre bagre; and WT = 0.035LT3.21, (r2) = .981 for Nebris microps.  相似文献

The diatom Eucampia zodiacus Ehrenberg is one of the harmful diatoms which indirectly cause, through nutrient depletion, discoloration of Porphyra thalli. The effect of temperature on light-limited growth of E. zodiacus was examined at 13 irradiance levels (5–350 μmol m−2 s−1) in combination with five temperatures (8.0–25.0 °C). The results showed that all the parameters of growth-irradiance curves, such as the maximum growth rate (μm), half saturation constant (Ks), threshold value of irradiance (I0) and saturation irradiance for growth (S), increased with increasing temperature. On the basis of the relationship between temperature and growth-irradiance curves and seasonal fluctuation of the light environment in Harima-Nada, the effect of irradiance on the population dynamics of E. zodiacus during the period from October to March was evaluated using two indices, depth of the threshold irradiance for growth (Dt) and depth where a half of its maximum growth rate is attained (Dk). Dt and Dk remained almost stable from October to December, but gradually increased in early March. This indicates that the range of depth at which E. zodiacus was able to grow increased markedly in early spring when E. zodiacus blooms in Harima-Nada. As the vegetative cells of E. zodiacus tend to distribute in relatively deeper water layers, where growth is limited by irradiance, the increase in the depth range over which E. zodiacus is able to grow is concluded to be an important factor allowing development of its blooms.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to assess the effect of leaf thickness, leaf succulence (LS), specific leaf area (SLA), specific leaf mass (Ws) and leaf water content (LWC) on chlorophyll (Chl) meter values in six Amazonian tree species (Carapa guianensis, Ceiba pentandra, Cynometra spruceana, Pithecolobium inaequale, Scleronema micranthum and Swietenia macrophylla). We also tested the accuracy of a general calibration equation to convert Minolta Chl meter (SPAD-502) readings into absolute Chl content. On average, SPAD values (x) increased with fresh leaf thickness (FLT [μm] = 153.9 + 0.98 x, r 2 = 0.06**), dry leaf thickness (DLT [μm] = 49.50 + 1.28 x, r 2 = 0.16**), specific leaf mass (Ws [g (DM) m−2] = 6.73 + 1.31 x, r 2 = 0.43**), and leaf succulence (LS [g(FM)] m−2 = 94.2 + 1.58 x, r 2 = 0.19**). However, a negative relationship was found between SPAD values and either specific leaf area [SLA (m2 kg−1) = 35.1 − 0.37 x, r 2 = 0.38**] or the leaf water content (LWC [%]= 80.0 − 0.42 x, r 2 = 0.58**). Leaf Chl contents predicted by the general calibration equation significantly differed (p<0.01) from those estimated by species-specific calibration equations. We conclude that to improve the accuracy of the SPAD-502 leaf thickness and LWC should be taken into account when calibration equations are to be obtained to convert SPAD values into absolute Chl content.  相似文献

This study tested the suitability of several staining methods to determine the age of common stingray (Dasyatis pastinaca) from Iskenderun Bay, Turkey. A total of 384 specimens (16.6 cm–69.3 cm disc width) were obtained by trawling between September 2010 and December 2011. Sex ratio of the samples was 53% males and 47% females. Appropriate age determination was firstly demonstrated using Safranin‐O staining. Age readings were made by two independent readers and the index of average percent error (IAPE) determined as 6.3% for Safranin‐O, 6.8% for Crystal Violet, 7.9% for Alcian Blue, and 9.3% for Silver Nitrate. Safranin‐O and Crystal Violet staining methods provided the best results. Verification of temporal growth ring formation was by marginal increment analysis. Disc width–weight relationships were determined by W = 0.0272*DW3.06 for females and W = 0.0247*DW3.08 for males. Estimates of the von Bertalanffy growth parameters indicated a larger asymptotic disc width (DW = 127.06 cm) for females than for males (DW∞ = 114.54 cm); growth parameters were = 0.058 year?1, to = ?1.508 and = 0.041 year?1, to = ?3.632 for females and males, respectively.  相似文献
