Summary The innervation of the pancreas of the domestic fowl was studied electron microscopically. The extrapancreatic nerve is composed mostly of unmyelinated nerve fibers with a smaller component of myelinated nerve fibers. The latter are not found in the parenchyma. The pancreas contains ganglion cells in the interlobular connective tissue. The unmyelinated nerve fibers branch off along blood vessels. Their synaptic terminals contact with the exocrine and endocrine tissues. The synaptic terminals can be divided into four types based on a combination of three kinds of synaptic vesicles. Type I synaptic terminals contain only small clear vesicles about 600 Å in diameter. Type II terminals are characterized by small clear and large dense core vesicles 1,000 Å in diameter. Type III terminals contain small clear vesicles and small dense core vesicles 500 Å in diameter. Type IV terminals are characterized by small and large dense core vesicles. The exocrine tissue receives a richer nervous supply than the endocrine tissue. Type II and IV terminals are distributed in the acinus, and they contact A and D cells of the islets. B cells and pancreatic ducts are supplied mainly by Type II terminals, the blood vessels by Type IV terminals. This work was supported by a scientific research grant (No. 144017) and (No. 136031) from the Ministry of Education of Japan to Prof. M. Summary The innervation of the endometrium of rabbit, rat, mink, mongoose and pig has been investigated electron microscopically. Large bundles of nerve fibers can be observed in the connective tissue spaces within the basal layer of the endometrium. Unmyelinated nerve fibers enter the lamina functionalis, terminal nerve fibers penetrate the basal lamina and make contact with the glandular and the cavum epithelial cells. The terminal axons contain abundant synaptic vesicles, dense core vesicles and mitochondria. To date, no specialized presynaptic or postsynaptic membranes have been found.Supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, Bonn-Bad Godesberg (Grants Ku 210/5 and Be 524/4).Dedicated to Prof. Dr. Drs. h.c. Summary The ultrastructure of the pars intermedia (PI) of the normal VII +/+ and hereditary nephrogenic diabetes inspidus DI Os/+ mice has been studied with particular reference to the morphology of the glandular cells and their innervation. Four types of cells were observed in both the genotypes of mice, 1) the light glandular cell, 2) the dark cell, 3) a type of cell similar to ependymal cells and 4) a small percentage of typical ACTH cells, observed mostly on the PI border of the cleft and rarely in the centre of PI. The predominant light glandular cells contain mainly two types of membrane bound granules: 1) electron dense core granules, which measure 1500–2500 Å and 2) electron lucent vesicles, which measure 3000–4000 Å in diameter. Granules of intermediate size with various density are also present in both types of mice. The electron dense core granules are predominant in DI Os/+ mice, whereas, electron lucent vesicles are predominant in the normal VII +/+ mice. Similar uniform size membrane bound electron dense granules have been observed in ACTH cells of PI and pars distalis. From earlier experimental evidences and the present observations, it is concluded that the dense core granules in PI may be synthesizing ACTH or ACTH-like substance. It is also discussed that these dense core granules may further mature and give rise to MSH in the form of electron lucent vesicles. If it is so, PI light glandular cells may have dual functions, of producing MSH and ACTH. One of the functions of ependymal-like cells, may be the transport of PI secretion.Three types of nerve endings are observed throughout the PI, making synaptic contact with the predominant cell type. The innervation is more in DI Os/+ mice than in normal mice. The classification of these nerves is according to Bargmann and co-workers 1) peptidergic neurosecretory fibers, contain mainly membrane bound dense core granules, measuring 1200 to 1800 Å, and are the classic neurosecretory granules; 2) adrenergic fibers, measuring 700–900 Å; 3) cholinergic fibers, measuring 300–400 Å. Adrenergic and cholinergic fibers are more towards the hypophysial cleft. The increased innervation, the synaptic contact, the extremely hypertrophied PI and the greater activity of its light glandular cells in the DI Os/+ mice show the PI is under the influence of the nervous system. This study was supported by MRC of Canada Grant No. MA-3759.  相似文献

Immunocytochemical and autoradiographic localization of thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH)- and 3H-TRH-binding sites was studied in the arcuate nucleus-median eminence region of the rat. TRH-like immunoreactivity was found in dense granular vesicles (90-140 nm in diameter) in TRH-like immunoreactive nerve fibers and terminals. In the median eminence, the immunoreactive terminals were observed to be in direct contact with the perivascular basal lamina of the portal vessel and to form synaptoid contacts with tanycytes. In the arcuate nucleus, the immunoreactive terminals were often found to form axosomatic and axo-axonic, and/or axo-dendritic synapses. The uptake of tritiated TRH into the nerve fibers and terminals of the median eminence was also observed by autoradiography and the distribution and localization of silver grains in them were analyzed quantitatively by circle analysis. Thirty minutes after intraventricular infusion of 3H-TRH, radioactive labeling occurred in type-2 and 3-nerve fibers and terminals containing dense granular vesicles in the median eminence. It is therefore suggested that the neurons labeled after 3H-TRH infusion possess certain functions as physiological recognition sites or receptors for TRH.  相似文献

The results presented in this study show that the rabbit pineal organ cultured in vitro retained its in vivo fine structure for at least eight days. However, the Golgi complex in the light pinealocytes stopped forming dense core vesicles while vesicle-crowned ribbons increased in number. After addition of norepinephrine to the culture medium, the Golgi complex once more began the production of dense core vesicles. Terminals of light pinealocytic processes then often contained Golgi dense core vesicles in close contact with the cell membrane, suggesting the release of the vesicular content into the intercellular and perivascular spaces. A close topographical relationship between Golgi dense core vesicles and vesicle-crowned ribbons was observed.  相似文献

In the present study, a polyclonal antibody against pro-opiomelanocortin derivatives was characterized biochemically. Its immunoreactivity with structures of the arcuate nucleus and the median eminence was investigated by means of the immunogold method and compared with its reaction on adenohypophyseal cells with and without pre-adsorption with pro-opiomelanocortin derivatives. The antiserum detects ACTH and its fragments, in particular alpha-MSH, and beta-endorphin. In the adenohypophysis gold particles are exclusively located on small secretory granules situated in the periphery of branched cells. In the perikarya of the arcuate nucleus gold particles are observed on terminal vesicles abutting from the cis-face of the Golgi apparatus, on granules in its direct vicinity and on small dense core vesicles preferentially located in the cell periphery. Immunoreactive gold-labeled fiber profiles are found in a sub- or intra-ependymal position as well as in the nuclear neuropil proper. Here axodendritic and axosomatic synapses are observed. In both situations the gold particles are mostly restricted to the small dense core vesicles and do not decorate the synaptic vesicles. In the median eminence gold labeled fibers are detected in all layers. The labeled fibers can be closely apposed to tanycytic processes, without, however, forming special contact differentiations. In direction to the perivascular layer of the external zone the labeled profiles are more frequently arranged in groups intermingled with unlabeled fibers. The axons decorated with gold particles can be freely exposed to the perivascular space or are found as single processes in close vicinity to the capillary wall. Subsequent to preincubation of the native antiserum with ACTH1-39 and ACTH18-39 (= CLIP) neither adenohypophyseal cells nor perikarya and fibers in the arcuate nucleus nor axons in the median eminence are decorated with gold particles. Preincubation of the native antiserum with alpha-MSH or beta-endorphin does not change the immunoreaction with the small, peripherally situated granules in the branched adenohypophyseal cells. In neurons of the arcuate nucleus and in fibers of the median eminence, however, the immunoreaction is completely extinguished when the antibody is pre-incubated with alpha-MSH, whereas subsequent to preincubation with beta-endorphin only the amounts of labeled structures are reduced.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 400 WORDS)  相似文献

Summary The midgut of Blaberus craniifer is principally made up of columnar epithelial cells which are derived from small regenerative cells found grouped in nidi. Between them, small sparsely granulated cells with clear cytoplasm can be observed lying on the basal lamina. Mainly based on the size, shape and texture of their secretory granules, at least ten types of such endocrine cells have been identified. Five cell types contain a uniform population of dense granules: (1) medium-sized, round to oval granules; (2) small elongated granules; (3) large irregular granules; (4) oval granules with a highly osmiophilic core; (5) oval, haloed granules. Five others are characterized by a heterogeneous population of granules: (6) small, round to oval, variably electron-dense granules; (7) oval medium-sized granules of variable electron density; (8) large irregular granules of variable electron density; (9) small dense granules and large vesicles with filamentous material; (10) small dense granules and very large pale vesicles. In addition, near the regenerative cells, large cells characterized by very large, irregular, dense granules (up to 4 m), lack contact with the lumen, and reach the basal lamina only by slender cytoplasmic processes.Several antisera raised against mammalian peptides and amine were used to reveal axonal fibers and endocrine cells. Serotonin-like immunoreactivity is localized in a profuse innervation of the muscle layers that surround the epithelium, whereas cholecystokinin and methionine-enkephalin antisera stain a more moderate number of axonal fibers. Cholecystokinin-, methionine-enkephalin-, substance P-, vasoactive intestinal peptide-, somatoliberin-, and gonadoliberin-like immunoreactivities were detected in endocrine cells of the epithelium. While most of the cells appear pyramidal, oval, fusiform or bowl-shaped, and seem to lack contact with the lumen, cells reaching it have been detected reacting with antisera to cholecystokinin, substance P, vasoactive intestinal peptide, somatoliberin and gonadoliberin.  相似文献

Summary Electron microscopy of the median eminence (ME) of the Mongolan gerbil (Meriones unguiculatus) revealed that, unlike most other mammalian species, abundant neurohaemal contacts were present not only in the external zone (EZ), but also in the internal zone (IZ) up to the subependymal layer. In the IZ, nerve terminals with dense core vesicles and/or small clear vesicles abutted on the outer basal lamina of the perivascular space of portal capillaries, alternating with tanycyte processes. In addition to these neurohaemal contacts, several layers of vesicle-filled varicosities surrounded the portal vasculature. An analysis of serial thin sections showed that the latter varicosities could also reach the perivascular basal lamina or contact it through small extensions in other planes of section. Apparently at least some of the nerve terminals making neurohaemal contacts were en passant in nature. A correlative investigation of synaptophysin (a major integral membrane protein of small synaptic vesicles) immunoreactivity at the light microscopical level demonstrated a conspicuously dense immunostaining around portal capillaries in both EZ and IZ of the proximal and distal ME (neural stalk). Since this perivascular accumulation of immunoreactivity coincides precisely with the ultrastructural accumulation of vesicle-filled axons which establish numerous neurohaemal contacts, it is concluded that this pattern of synaptophysin immunostaining indicates sites of neurohaemal contacts at the light microscopical level. During postnatal development, the perivascular concentration of synaptophysin immunoreactivity in the IZ appeared concomitantly with the early postnatal expansion of long portal capillary loops into the IZ. By direct electron-microscopical demonstration and indirect immunohistochemical evidence, the present study of the gerbil ME reveals that the whole extent of portal capillaries up to the subependymal layer constitutes an area for numerous neurohaemal contacts. Hence, the common view that neurohaemal contacts are restricted to the EZ of the mammalian ME is not generally valid.  相似文献

Summary The fine structure of arcuate neurons of the arcuate nucleus, the ependymal tanycytes and the contact zone of the median eminence was examined following immobilization, an acute stress which significantly activated the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. Arcuate neurons of immobilized adult male hamsters displayed morphological indications of heightened activity; the number of lysosomes and dense core vesicles (80–120 nm) was increased. A markedly greater number of dense core vesicles was present in axon terminals of the contact zone of the mid-central median eminence and the ventral proximal stalk.Tanycytes of the median eminence exhibited an augmented number of electron dense bodies in both perikarya and end processes. These results indicate that the arcuate neurons, the axons of the contact zone, and the ependymal tanycytes of the hamster medial basal hypothalamus (MBH) may be involved in the response to immobilization. This work was supported by Program Project Grant #NS-11642  相似文献

Summary VIP-like immunoreactivity was revealed in a few chromaffin cells, medullary ganglion cells and a plexus of varicose nerve fibers in the superficial cortex and single varicose fibers in the juxtamedullary cortex and the medulla of the rat adrenal gland. VIP-like immunoreactive chromaffin cells were polygonal in shape without any distinct cytoplasmic processes and they appeared solitarily. Their cytoplasm contained abundant granular vesicles having a round core and the immunoreactive material was localized to the granular core. VIP-immunoreactive ganglion cells were multipolar and had large intracytoplasmic vacuoles. The immunoreactive material was localized not only in a few granular vesicles but also diffusely throughout the axoplasm. VIP-immunoreactive varicose nerve fibers in the superficial cortex were characterized by abundant small clear vesicles and some large granular vesicles, while those in the juxtamedullary cortex and medulla and the ganglionic processes were characterized by abundant large clear vesicles, as well as the same vesicular elements as contained in the nerves in the superficial cortex. The immunoreactive material was localized on the granular cores and diffusely in the axoplasm in both nerves. Based on the similarity and difference in the composition of the vesicles contained in individual nerves, it is likely that the VIP-immunoreactive nerve fibers in the medulla and the juxtamedullary cortex are derived from the medullary VIP-ganglion cells, while those in the superficial cortex are of extrinsic origin. The immunoreactive nerve fibers in both the cortex and the medulla were often in direct contact with cortical cells and chromaffin cells, where no membrane specializations were formed. The immunoreactive nerve fibers were sometimes associated with the smooth muscle cells and pericytes of small blood vessels in the superficial cortex. In addition they were often seen in close apposition to the fenestrated endothelial cells in the cortex and the medulla, only a common basal lamina intervening. Several possible mechanisms by which VIP may exert its effect in the adrenal gland are discussed.  相似文献

Fine structure of the corpuscles of stannius in the toadfish.   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The micro-anatomy of the corpuscles of Stannius of the toadfish, Opsanus tau, an aglomerular marine teleost, has been studied by light and electron microscopy. The corpuscles are composed of extensively anastomosed cords of epithelial cells which maintain intimate contact with blood capillaries. Most of the epithelial cells contain acidophilic granules which also show a positive reaction with the periodic acid-Schiff technique and aldehyde fuchsin. On the basis of fine structural criteria, three cell types can be recognized. The granular cells contain abundant quantities of granular endoplasmic reticulum, ribosomes, Golgi apparatus with prosecretory granules, coated vesicles, polymorphic mitochondria with lamellar cristae, filaments, microtubules, a cilium, a variety of lysosome-like dense bodies, glycogen particles, lipid droplets, secretory granules and intranuclear lipid-like inclusions. One variety of agranular cell (type I) is characterized by the total absence of secretory granules, but it contains large amounts of granular endoplasmic reticulum and ribosomes, conspicuous profiles of Golgi apparatus, coated vesicles and sometimes an abundance of glycogen. Another variety of agranular cell (type II) has poorly developed cytoplasmic organelles. The perivascular space between the capillary and parenchyma contains connective tissue cells and abundant nerve fibers. The different types of epithelial cells observed in the corpuscles of Stannius of this fish may represent functional stages of the secretory cycle in a single cell type.  相似文献

Summary Morphological evidence is presented supporting the possibility of basal secretion into hypendymal capillaries of the adult rabbit subcommissural organ (SCO). The synthetic apparatus of the SCO cell is described as well as the heterogeneous granules and vesicles which are concentrated in the basal processes bordering a widened perivascular space. The origin of the electron dense granules, of which two fairly distinct subgroups are found, is discussed.A binding of secretory sacs to the lateral plasma membrane is seen. The possibility of a lateral secretion is supported by the presence of a system of extracellular channels between SCO cells which are filled with a flocculent material resembling that of the secretory sacs.Nerve perikarya which are separated from the SCO by only a few glial fibers are demonstrated. Synapses are described in nerve fascicles bordering on the hypendymal capillaries. The possibility of an innervation of the hypendymal region is discussed as well as possible nervous connections with the pineal gland. This work was supported by grants from Statens almindelige Videnskabsfond, Copenhagen.  相似文献

Summary The median eminence (ME) of hypophysectomized rats was studied by means of light and electron microscopy. Paraldehyde-fuchsin (PAF)-positive material is seen in the external zone (EZ) of the ME 2–5 days after the operation. Its amount gradually increases especially in the caudal part of the ME during the following few days. Some PAF-positive fibers make contact with the subependymally located blood capillaries. In the most caudal region of the recessus infundibuli they penetrate into the third ventricle. PAF-positive material decreases markedly from the ME of rats two months after hypophysectomy and exposure to a 1% salt load. Fibers of types A1, A2 and B containing granules of 120–220 nm, 100–150 nm and 80–100 nm in diameter, respectively, are seen in the EZ of the ME in hypophysectomized rats, although almost exclusively A2- and B-type structures make contact with the primary portal capillaries in intact animals. All types of neurosecretory fibers establish contact with the subependymal nonfenestrated blood capillaries and penetrate the recessus infundibuli. Some neurosecretory terminals of different types make direct contact with the glandular cells of the pars tuberalis or are separated from them by a thin basal lamina. It is assumed that mainly neurosecretory fibers of types A2 and B are permanently connected with the primary portal capillaries in the EZ of the ME in intact mammals, while the overwhelming majority of fibers of A1-type shows ingrowth during the course of postoperative reparation. The possible physiological significance of the described changes is discussed.  相似文献

Large dense core vesicles in rat pheochromocytoma cells are morphologically distinct from dense core vesicles in mast and chromaffin cells in that the dense core occupies a much smaller fraction of the vesicular volume, allowing for a much larger vesicular clear space, or halo. In this work, we present evidence indicating that upon treatment with L-DOPA the majority of the dopamine loaded into these vesicles is preferentially compartmentalized into the halo portion of the vesicle. Amperometry was used to monitor release of loaded neurotransmitter from cells in both isotonic and hypertonic extracellular conditions, with the latter condition causing inhibition of dense core dissociation. In combination with this we have used transmission electron microscopy to determine the morphological characteristics of dense core vesicles before and after treatment with L-DOPA in solutions of varied osmolarity. The results provide a more complete understanding of the complex interaction of molecules within dense core vesicles, suggesting that newly loaded dopamine is located in the halo of the vesicle. This finding has fundamental significance for studies of neurotransmitter release from dense core vesicles, as the core appears to have a function involving more than simple storage of neurotransmitter and associated molecules, and the often overlooked vesicular halo appears to be an important storage compartment for neurotransmitter.  相似文献

Summary The Organum vasculosum laminae terminalis (OVLT) of the duck is lined innerly by specialized ependymal cells (tanycytes) and outwardly by a well-developed superficial vascular network, the capillaries of which often show a fenestrated endothelium. The OVLT also includes glial cells, internal non-fenestrated capillaries, bundles of fine nerve fibers and three groups of axonal swellings. One type contains granulations of 1000–1400 Å in diameter as well as 300–500 Å clear vesicles. The second type exhibits granulations and dense core vesicles of 500–800 Å in diameter along with small electron-lucent vesicles having diameters of 300–400 Å. In the third type, exclusively clear vesicles 300–600 Å in diameter are found. Asymmetrical synapses on dendrites and neuronal perikarya are found at every level of the organ. In the most external zone, the interposition of tanycyte endings sometimes allows neurosecretory axons to reach the parenchymal basement membrane (basal lamina). When tritiated molecules (amino acids or monoamines) are administered either in vitro by incubation or in vivo by intraventricular injections, radioautographic grains are observed over the tanycyte perikarya. Although this labeling is observed at every time point following the administration of the tracers, within three minutes only 3H-GABA appears to be concentrated in the cytoplasmic processes of the tanycytes. 3H-noradrenaline and 3H-serotonin are taken up and retained by some axons of the second type described above. Noradrenergic fibers are primarily localized in the inner zone of the OVLT where they display axodendritic synaptic contacts. Serotonergic fibers appear sparsely distributed in the OVLT but are more numerous in the lateral edges of the organ where synaptic differentiations on dendrites or on dendritic spines are also observed. It is concluded that the duck OVLT probably displays a neuroendocrine activity. Uptake and selective transport of exogenous molecules by tanycytes are also suggested by the present radioautographic observations. Finally, monoaminergic innervation is discussed at the OVLT level with special reference to the occurrence of serotonergic synapses.Supported by the Département de Biologie du C.E.A., and the I.N.S.E.R.M. Histological and ultrastructural investigations of the stomach of the catfish Hypostomus plecostomus show that its structure is different from that typical of the stomachs of other teleostean fishes: the wall is thin and transparent, while the mucosal layer is smooth and devoid of folds. The epithelium lining the whole internal surface of the stomach consists of several types of cells, the most prominent being flattened respiratory epithelial cells. There are also two types of gastric gland cells, three types of endocrine cells (EC), and basal cells. The epithelial layer is underlain by capillaries of a diameter ranging from 6.1-13.1 microm. Capillaries are more numerous in the anterior part of the stomach, where the mean number of capillary sections per 100 microm of epithelium length is 4, compared with 3 in the posterior part. The cytoplasm of the epithelial cells, apart from its typical organelles, contains electron-dense and lamellar bodies at different stages of maturation, which form the sites of accumulation of surfactant. Small, electron-dense vesicles containing acidic mucopolysaccharides are found in the apical parts of some respiratory epithelial cells. Numerous gastric glands (2 glands per 100 microm of epithelium length), composed of two types of pyramidal cells, extend from the surface epithelium into the subjacent lamina propria. The gland outlets, as well as the apical cytoplasm of the cells are Alcian blue-positive, indicating the presence of acidic mucopolysaccharides. Zymogen granules have not been found, but the apical parts of cells contain vesicles of variable electron density. The cytoplasm of the gastric gland cells also contains numerous electron-dense and lamellar bodies. Gastric gland cells with electron-dense cytoplasm and tubulovesicular system are probably involved in the production of hydrochloric acid. Fixation with tannic acid as well as with ruthenium red revealed a thin layer of phospholipids and glycosaminoglycans covering the entire inner surface of the stomach. In regions of the epithelium where the capillaries are covered by the thin cytoplasmic sheets of the respiratory epithelial cells, a thin air-blood barrier (0.25-2.02 microm) is formed, thus enabling gaseous exchange. Relatively numerous pores closed by diaphragms are seen in the endothelium lining the apical and lateral parts of the capillaries. Between gastric gland cells, solitary, noninnervated endocrine cells (EC) of three types were found. EC are characterized by lighter cytoplasm than the surrounding cells and they contain dense core vesicles (DCV) with a halo between the electron-dense core and the limiting membrane. EC of type I are the most abundant. They are of an open type, reaching the stomach lumen. The round DCV of this type, with a diameter from 92-194 nm, have a centrally located core surrounded by a narrow halo. EC of type II are rarely observed and are of a closed type. They possess two kinds of DCV with a very narrow halo. The majority of them are round, with a diameter ranging from 88-177 nm, while elongated ones, 159-389 nm long, are rare. EC of type III are numerous and also closed. The whole cytoplasm is filled with large DCV: round, with a diameter from 123-283 nm, and oval, 230-371 nm long, both with a core of irregular shape and a wide, irregular halo. EC are involved in the regulation of digestion and probably local gas exchange. In conclusion, the thin-walled stomach of Hypostomus plecostomus, with its rich network of capillaries, has a morphology suggesting it is an efficient organ for air breathing.  相似文献

Summary The ultrastructure of the innervation of the anterior cerebral artery of the rat was studied in control animals and in animals after superior cervical ganglionectomy.Fluorescence histochemistry shows a periarterial network of intensely fluorescent fibers which are divided into two groups, adventitial and periadventitial. The fluorescence begins to decrease 26 hours after, and completely disappears about 32 hours after, ganglionectomy.Fine structural changes are first observed 18 hours after ganglionectomy, when the axoplasm of degenerating axons becomes electron dense. This density gradually increases up to about 32 hours. By 32 hours most axons with disintegrating axolemmas become inclusion bodies of the Schwann cells. At this stage, synaptic vesicles can still be distinguished as less dense areas, but the membrane structures of synaptic vesicles and mitochondria are difficult to recognize. The degenerating axons are gradually absorbed and by 38 hours dense, residual bodies are observed in the Schwann cells. Generally speaking, the degeneration occurs first in the adventitial fibers and then in the periadventitial fibers. The transient appearance of small, granular vesicles is noticed in axon terminals about 18 hours after denervation, although very few small, granular vesicles are seen in control tissue or at later stages of degeneration.  相似文献

As determined by light microscopic autoradiography, parts of the nervous system of Phocanema decipiens have selective and high affinity mechanisms for the uptake of tritiated noradrenaline, dihydroxyphenylalanine (dopa) and 5-hydroxytryptamine. In the nervous system, noradrenaline is accumulated only by the four papillary nerves and two fibers in the nerve ring. The precursor dopa is also taken up by these neurons and, in addition, by the lateral nerves. 5-Hydroxytryptamine is accumulated by the three pharyngeal nerves, two cells in each lateral ganglion, and two other fibers in the nerve ring. With adjacent ultrathin sections, the labelled papillary nerve and lateral ganglion were examined ultrastructurally and found to contain various dense core vesicles which are similar to those in other aminergic neurons. The adjoining unlabelled cells of the same neurons are found, on the other hand, to contain dense agranular vesicles. With these results, the noradrenaline accumulating neurons are suggested to be noradrenergic and to contain the amine synthesizing enzymes. The lateral nerves are regarded, for the present, as dopaminergic neurons. These suggestions are in agreement with the previous demonstration of catecholaminergic neurons in this nematode. The 5-hydroxytryptamine accumulating neurons are tentatively identified as tryptaminergic.  相似文献
