Topmouth gudgeon (Pseudorasbora parva) is one of the most invasive aquatic fish species in Europe and causes adverse effects to ecosystem structure and functioning. Knowledge and understanding of the species’ interactions with the environment and with native fish are important to stop and prevent the further spread of the species. Creating species distribution models is a useful technique to determine which factors influence the occurrence and abundance of a species. We applied three different modelling techniques: general additive models, random forests and fuzzy habitat suitability modelling (FHSM) to assess the habitat suitability of topmouth gudgeon. The former two techniques indicated that the abundance of native fish (i.e. biotic variables) was more important than environmental variables when determining the abundance of topmouth gudgeon in Flanders (Belgium). Bitterling (Rhodeus amarus), stone loach (Barbatula barbatula), three-spined stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus) and predator abundance were selected as the most important biotic variables and implemented in the FHSM to investigate species interactions. Depending on the preferred food source and spawning behaviour, either coexistence or interspecific competition can occur with bitterling, stone loach and three-spined stickleback. In contrast, the presence of predators clearly had a top down effect on topmouth gudgeon abundance. These findings could be applied as a biological control measure and implemented in conservation strategies in order to reduce the abundance of earlier established populations of topmouth gudgeon.  相似文献

The Iberian hare Lepus granatensis is a common and abundant species throughout the Iberian Peninsula; however, studies documenting its ecology are scarce. Between August 1996 and September 1997, after a long drought, we studied the effects of a widespread flood on the Iberian hare ecology in ecotone pastures of Doñana National Park. Hares were captured using vertical nets through part of 1996 and 1997. Fourteen adult hares (nine females and five males) were tagged with radiocollars and located by triangulation on a daily basis at least once a week. Habitat use was estimated using a geographical information system. The average home range size was 28 ha for males and 24 ha for females. No significant differences were observed between sexes. Significant differences were observed in the use of scrub areas and in dry pastures. During the dry and wet seasons, males and females were most often located in the pastures of the ecotone, rush stands and scrub. The dense bracken (Pteridium aquilinum) and seaside bulrush (Scirpus maritimus) communities were avoided. These results are the first on the spatial ecology of this species in its native habitat.  相似文献

Species distribution models (SDMs) are excellent tools to understand the factors that affect the potential distribution of several organisms at different scale. In this study, we analyzed the current potential distribution of the Blanford's Jerboa Jaculus blanfordi and the Arabian Jerboa Jaculus loftusi (Mammalia: Rodentia) in Iran and predicted the impact of climate change on their future potential distributions using two different modelling software packages: Maxent and sdm. Our results showed that precipitation was the most important variable affecting the potential distributions of J. blanfordi and J. loftusi in Iran. We also showed that the potential distributions of the two jerboas species are unlikely to be affected by climate change. All our models showed high levels of predictive performances. Thus, SDMs are a promising tool to complement data from laboratory and field studies to illuminate the biology and ecology of jerboa and inform management decisions.  相似文献

To understand the demographic history of Arabidopsis thaliana within its native geographical range, we have studied its genetic structure in the Iberian Peninsula region. We have analyzed the amount and spatial distribution of A. thaliana genetic variation by genotyping 268 individuals sampled in 100 natural populations from the Iberian Peninsula. Analyses of 175 individuals from 7 of these populations, with 20 chloroplast and nuclear microsatellite loci and 109 common single nucleotide polymorphisms, show significant population differentiation and isolation by distance. In addition, analyses of one genotype from 100 populations detected significant isolation by distance over the entire Iberian Peninsula, as well as among six Iberian subregions. Analyses of these 100 genotypes with different model-based clustering algorithms inferred four genetic clusters, which show a clear-cut geographical differentiation pattern. On the other hand, clustering analysis of a worldwide sample showed a west–east Eurasian longitudinal spatial gradient of the commonest Iberian genetic cluster. These results indicate that A. thaliana genetic variation displays significant regional structure and consistently support the hypothesis that Iberia has been a glacial refugium for A. thaliana. Furthermore, the Iberian geographical structure indicates a complex regional population dynamics, suggesting that this region contained multiple Pleistocene refugia with a different contribution to the postglacial colonization of Europe.  相似文献

Rangelands with more than 8000 plant species occupy nearly 54.6% of the land area of Iran and thus are accounted for a rich plant genetic storage. Mazandaran province has 378,000 ha of rangelands with high plant species richness and diversity due to its climate conditions but plants distribution is at risk because of non-principle management, land use change and as a result changing environmental factors. Vegetation management strategies can be guided by models that predict plant species distribution based on governing environmental variables. This is especially useful for the dominant species that determine ecosystem processes. In fact, modelling algorithm in each SDM determines its suitability for different ecosystems. Our aim was to compare the predictive power of a number of SDMs and to evaluate the importance of a range of environmental variables as predictors in the context of semi-arid rangeland vegetation. The selected study area, the Sarkhas rangelands (northern Iran, 36°10′ 42˝ N - 51°19′ 11˝ E), covers approximately 4358.9 ha of Mazandaran province. The efficacy of four different modelling techniques as well as Ensemble model was evaluated to predict the distribution of five dominant forage plant species (Vicia villosa, Stachys lavandulifolia, Coronilla balansae, Sanguisorba minor and Alopecurus textilis). The used models included artificial neural network (ANN), boosted regression trees (BRT), classification and regression trees (CART), and random forest (RF). Ensemble, RF and CART had the highest area under curve. The AUC obtained for Vicia villosa, Stachys lavandulifolia, Coronilla balansae, Sanguisorba minor and Alopecurus textilis, were 0.90, 0.72, 0.76, 0.69 and 0.75 respectively. Ensemble model was the model that most consistently demonstrated high predictive power across species in the rangeland context investigated here. BRT exhibited the least predictive power. An importance analysis of variables showed that soil organic C according to the CART model (0.396) and K according to the RF model (0.396) were the most important environmental variables.  相似文献

Rhizomnium (Broth.) Kop. is represented in the Iberian Peninsula by two taxa: Rhizomnium punctatum (Hedw.) Kop. and R. magnifolium. R. punctatum is common in the northern part of the Peninsula while R. magnifolium, new taxon for the Spanish bryoflora, is restricted to the high mountains of the northern half of the Peninsula. The distribution maps, the phytogeography and ecology of both species are given. All samples from herbaria named as R. pseudopunctatum correspond to R. punctatum or R. magnifolium.  相似文献

The larger foraminifer Mardinella represents the first cyclical Soritidae appearing in the geological record and is one of the most characteristic components within the Paleocene shallow-water platforms of the Arabian Plate and northeast India. We present new data collected from the Becirman Formation in the Gercü? district (Batman Province), southeastern Turkey, near the locality where the genus Mardinella Meriç and Çoruh, 1991 was introduced, including species Mardinella shirazensis (Rahaghi). According to our analysis, the reported species was originally recognized from the Paleocene of Iran as Taberina daviesi Henson, on the basis of the shell architecture of annular chambers with lateral partitions (beams), cross-wise oblique central pillars and marked dimorphism, thus, the combination Mardinella daviesi (Henson) is, by priority, to be adopted.  相似文献

Mitochondrial DNA diversity was analysed in 19 Iberian and six foreign sheep breeds. Three mtDNA lineages (B, A and C) were found in the Iberian sheep, with type B clearly predominating over the others. The results were analysed for each of the morphologically determined breed groups in Iberian sheep: Merino, Entrefino, Churro and Iberian trunks. MtDNA lineage C was found only in the Iberian trunk composed of Montesina and Ojalada. These two populations had high mtDNA variability, and in the Iberian sheep only Merino Branco had more variation. The other three Merino types studied showed moderate variability, including the most authentic Merino, the Spanish Merino. These three Merinos clustered closely in a multidimensional scaling representation of distances, while the fourth breed (Merino Branco) showed a clear separation. As for the other two trunks, breeds from the Churro group showed greater maternal uniformity while results for populations included in the so-called Entrefino trunk seemed to have a more heterogeneous maternal origin. The results obtained are discussed with available data from nuclear markers and with morphological classifications, and all this information is analysed in relation to the origin of the different Iberian sheep breeds.  相似文献

Background aimsCombination therapy is being actively explored to improve the efficacy and safety of anti-CD19 chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CART19) therapy, among which Bruton tyrosine kinase inhibitors (BTKIs) are highly expected. BTKIs may modulate T-cell function and remodel the tumor micro-environment (TME), but the exact mechanisms involved and the steps required to transform different BTKIs into clinical applications need further investigation.MethodsWe examined the impacts of BTKIs on T-cell and CART19 phenotype and functionality in vitro and further explored the mechanisms. We evaluated the efficacy and safety of CART19 concurrent with BTKIs in vitro and in vivo. Moreover, we investigated the effects of BTKIs on TME in a syngeneic lymphoma model.ResultsHere we identified that the three BTKIs, ibrutinib, zanubrutinib and orelabrutinib, attenuated CART19 exhaustion mediated by tonic signaling, T-cell receptor (TCR) activation and antigen stimulation. Mechanistically, BTKIs markedly suppressed CD3-ζ phosphorylation of both chimeric antigen receptor and TCR and downregulated the expression of genes associated with T-cell activation signaling pathways. Moreover, BTKIs decreased interleukin 6 and tumor necrosis factor alpha release in vitro and in vivo. In a syngeneic lymphoma model, BTKIs reprogrammed macrophages to the M1 subtype and polarized T helper (Th) cells toward the Th1 subtype.ConclusionsOur data revealed that BTKIs preserved T-cell and CART19 functionality under persistent antigen exposure and further demonstrated that BTKI administration was a potential strategy for mitigating cytokine release syndrome after CART19 treatment. Our study lays the experimental foundation for the rational application of BTKIs combined with CART19 in clinical practice.  相似文献

The up-to-date phylogeographical distribution of the topmouth gudgeon Pseudorasbora parva Temminck et Schlegel 1846 in water bodies of the Northern Black Sea region is considered. Genetic variation of mtDNA cyt b gene is analyzed. It is established that topmouth gudgeon penetrated and spread in the basins of the Dnieper and Don rivers and in water bodies of Crimea from the secondary center of its dispersion— water bodies of Central Europe. It is demonstrated that haplotypes of topmouth gudgeon in the Danube delta are the most homologous to the haplotypes in the native range of the species in China. A considerable decrease in the level of genetic variation in the populations in the Black Sea region is reported.  相似文献

Regulating mobility by actively entering the drift under imminent predation risk is an avoidance strategy employed by aquatic macroinvertebrate species that is widely accepted within the scientific community. This response was most evident with respect to diurnal predators that feed in the water column, such as many salmonids. We investigated the role of the nocturnal benthivorous gudgeon [Gobio gobio (L.)] on the drift activity of two macroinvertebrate species known to display this behaviour: Baetis rhodani (PICTET) and Gammarus pulex (L.). Laboratory drift experiments using gudgeon kairomones were conducted with the results determining significant altered activity in the presence of gudgeon kairomones for both macroinvertebrate species. B. rhodani showed reduced drift activity in the kairomone treatment compared to the kairomone-free control, with a distinct nocturnal pattern being observed for both. G. pulex shifted from a similar day/night movement pattern to a nocturnal movement pattern with decreased activity during the day. Reduce activity during the day, whilst maintaining normal activity at night would not reduce the probability of encountering a nocturnal predator under natural conditions and therefore appears to not be a meaningful anti-predator response. To assess the relevance of these findings under natural conditions, we compared the experimental results with drift measurements from field observations. These show a significant reduction in drift activity for G. pulex and slight tendencies for reduced night-time drift for B. rhodani, under seasonal variations. We conclude that the behaviour in response to the physical contact or the hydrodynamic stimuli of nocturnal predators is the most likely explanation for the differences between the results from our laboratory experiment and the field observation. We further discuss that the observed migration patterns might have different species specific consequences for density stabilisation on a population level.  相似文献

Invasive species are regarded as a biological pressure to natural aquatic communities. Understanding the factors promoting successful invasions is of great conceptual and practical importance. From a practical point of view, it should help to prevent future invasions and to mitigate the effects of recent invaders through early detection and prioritization of management measures. This study aims to identify the environmental determinants of fish invasions in Mediterranean-climate rivers and evaluate the relative importance of natural and human drivers. Fish communities were sampled in 182 undisturbed and 198 disturbed sites by human activities, belonging to 12 river types defined for continental Portugal within the implementation of the European Union''s Water Framework Directive. Pumpkinseed sunfish, Lepomis gibbosus (L.), and mosquitofish, Gambusia holbrooki (Girard), were the most abundant non-native species (NNS) in the southern river types whereas the Iberian gudgeon, Gobio lozanoi Doadrio and Madeira, was the dominant NNS in the north/centre. Small northern mountain streams showed null or low frequency of occurrence and abundance of NNS, while southern lowland river types with medium and large drainage areas presented the highest values. The occurrence of NNS was significantly lower in undisturbed sites and the highest density of NNS was associated with high human pressure. Results from variance partitioning showed that natural environmental factors determine the distribution of the most abundant NNS while the increase in their abundance and success is explained mainly by human-induced disturbance factors. This study stresses the high vulnerability of the warm water lowland river types to non-native fish invasions, which is amplified by human-induced degradation.  相似文献

A method for the determination of (R)-(+)- and (S)-(−)-isomers of thiopentone in plasma was developed. Following liquid-liquid extraction, the separation of enantiomers of thiopentone and the internal standard (racemic ketamine) was achieved by high-performance liquid chromatography on an α1-acid glycoprotein (AGP) column with ultraviolet detection at 280 nm. The mobile phase consisted of 20 mM KH2PO4 buffer-propanol-methanol (93.5:5.0:1.5) at pH 5.0. The flow-rate was 0.9 ml/min. The limit of quantification for earch isomer was approximately 10 ng/ml. The assay is suitable for pharmacokinetic studies of (R)-(+)- and (S)-(−)-isomers of thiopentone, following usual bolus intravenous clinical doses of the racemic drug.  相似文献

The control of multihost pathogens, such as Coxiella burnetii, should rely on accurate information about the roles played by the main hosts. We aimed to determine the involvement of the red deer (Cervus elaphus) in the ecology of C. burnetii. We predicted that red deer populations from broad geographic areas within a European context would be exposed to C. burnetii, and therefore, we hypothesized that a series of factors would modulate the exposure of red deer to C. burnetii. To test this hypothesis, we designed a retrospective survey of 47 Iberian red deer populations from which 1,751 serum samples and 489 spleen samples were collected. Sera were analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) in order to estimate exposure to C. burnetii, and spleen samples were analyzed by PCR in order to estimate the prevalence of systemic infections. Thereafter, we gathered 23 variables—within environmental, host, and management factors—potentially modulating the risk of exposure of deer to C. burnetii, and we performed multivariate statistical analyses to identify the main risk factors. Twenty-three populations were seropositive (48.9%), and C. burnetii DNA in the spleen was detected in 50% of the populations analyzed. The statistical analyses reflect the complexity of C. burnetii ecology and suggest that although red deer may maintain the circulation of C. burnetii without third species, the most frequent scenario probably includes other wild and domestic host species. These findings, taken together with previous evidence of C. burnetii shedding by naturally infected red deer, point at this wild ungulate as a true reservoir for C. burnetii and an important node in the life cycle of C. burnetii, at least in the Iberian Peninsula.  相似文献

Background

Classification and regression tree (CART) models are tree-based exploratory data analysis methods which have been shown to be very useful in identifying and estimating complex hierarchical relationships in ecological and medical contexts. In this paper, a Bayesian CART model is described and applied to the problem of modelling the cryptosporidiosis infection in Queensland, Australia.

Methodology/Principal Findings

We compared the results of a Bayesian CART model with those obtained using a Bayesian spatial conditional autoregressive (CAR) model. Overall, the analyses indicated that the nature and magnitude of the effect estimates were similar for the two methods in this study, but the CART model more easily accommodated higher order interaction effects.

Conclusions/Significance

A Bayesian CART model for identification and estimation of the spatial distribution of disease risk is useful in monitoring and assessment of infectious diseases prevention and control.  相似文献

R-Models are an approach to capturing notions of assistance and abstraction in reproductive systems, based on labelled transition systems and Gibson's theory of affordances. R-Models incorporate a labelled transition system that describes how a reproductive system changes over the course of reproduction. The actors in the system are represented by a set of entities together with a relation describing the states in which those entities are present, and an affordance-modelling function mapping actions to sets of entities which enable those actions to be performed. We show how R-models can be classified based on whether the reproducer is assisted or unassisted in reproduction, and whether or not the reproducer is active during reproduction. We prove that all assisted and unassisted R-models have a related R-model which has the opposite classification. We discuss the relevance to the field of artificial life, give a potential application to the fields of computer virology, and demonstrate reproduction modelling and classification in action using examples.  相似文献

Direct observation of two benthic fish species — the stone loach (Barbatula barbatula) and the gudgeon (Gobio gobio) — in the field revealed a spatial segregation between the species in a study area with shallow riffle and moderately deeper pool sections. Stone loach generally inhabited shallow, more current-exposed locations and gudgeon preferred deeper, mostly sandy areas. The small individuals of both species were confined to shallow muddy locations and the larger individuals were found in deeper and more current exposed areas. The main factor affecting microhabitat choice was the flow regime:
  • it was a limiting factor for the stone loach, where the discharge rates controlled the presence of fish in the study area.
  • distribution patterns of both species were influenced by discharge and by fluctuations in discharge.
  • The following mechanisms regulating the distribution of stone loach and gudgeon are hypothesized:
    1. Gudgeon: They prefer high water depth, low current velocities and sandy substrate, which strongly limits their spatial niche. Mainly relatively small individuals (size class 2; 6—9 cm) changed microhabitat in relation to environmental parameters. Size class 3 (approx. 9—12 cm) may be interpreted as a rather unpredictable transitory period between juvenile and adult stage. Large gudgeon entered the observation area mainly when discharge rates were high and variable. Increasing discharge rates increased the spatial niche of the large gudgeon.
    2. Stone loach: At low flow rates, the observation area seemed to be an optimal place for the stone loach. Changes in environmental conditions are reflected in the distribution patterns. The transition between juvenile and adult microhabitat use takes place in size class 2. Under high and/or variable flow regime the species was not found in the observation area.
