A number of 3,200 febrile patients who presented upon admission to hospital primary pulmonary or upper respiratory tract impairment either as single forms of manifestation or associated to other syndromes were tested. The cases were screened by the rapid slide agglutination reaction with heat inactivated Patoc antigen and leptospirotic etiology was confirmed by the ultramicroscopic agglutination reaction with 18 live circulating pathogenic antigens. 64 leptospirosis cases with pulmonary impairment were confirmed and in 52 cases the upper respiratory tract was involved. Particular aspects of leptospirosis with pulmonary impairment: 71.8% of cases had a clinical diagnosis of interstitial pneumonia; 89% of cases presented important chest x-ray modifications; in an approximately equal number of cases the pulmonary involvement was the single manifestation or was associated with other syndromes; icterohaemorrhagiae, wolffi and pomona were the frequently encountered infecting serotypes. Particular aspects for leptospirosis involving the upper respiratory tract: 84.6% of cases had a clinical diagnosis of acute rhino-pharyngotracheitis; in 86.5% of cases the upper respiratory tract impairment was the single feature; the infecting serotypes were in decreasing order of frequency as follows: icterohaemorrhagiae, pomona, wolffi, canicola, grippotyphosa.  相似文献

The etiological structure of acute pneumonia and acute respiratory diseases was studied with a view to establishing the proportion of L. pneumophila among other causative agents of such diseases. A total of 299 patients were examined over time. The etiological diagnosis based on the data of serological examination was made in 70.6% of the patients with acute pneumonia and in 65% of the patients with acute respiratory viral infections and influenza. In the etiology of pneumonia, the leading role was found to belong to influenza A (H3N2) and B viruses, as well as to adenovirus, while in the etiology of acute respiratory viral infections and influenza, to influenza B virus, adenovirus and Mycoplasma pneumoniae. The importance of L. pneumophila in the etiology of acute pneumonia and acute respiratory diseases was shown. The proportion of L. pneumophila proved to be, on the average, 9.9% in acute pneumonia and 9.8% in acute respiratory diseases. L. pneumophila occurred most frequently in mixed infections in combination with adenovirus and influenza B virus. Diseases of Legionella etiology were found to have a seasonal character, occurring mostly in winter and spring.  相似文献

The electromagnetic radiation of mm-range and 3 mW/cm2-flow density has been studied for its effect on the function of the respiratory-hemodynamic system in some parameters of the cell immunity and on the sensory sphere of patients with chronic obstructive diseases of the lungs. The therapeutic exposure was performed by the method of cascade EUHF-reflexotherapy. It is shown that such a radiation promotes stabilization of the chronic broncho-obstructive process. The exposure features revealed allow recommending the cascade EUHF-reflexotherapy for a routine use in the complex rehabilitation of patients with chronic obstructive diseases of the lungs.  相似文献

Influenza virus infections usually cause mild to moderately severe respiratory disease, however some infections, like those involving the avian H5N1 virus, can cause massive viral pneumonia, systemic disease and death. The innate immune response of respiratory tract resident cells is the first line of defense and limits virus replication. Enhanced cytokine and chemokine production following infection, however, appears to underlie much of the pathology that develops after infection with highly pathogenic strains. A so-called `cytokine storm' can damage the lung tissue and cause systemic disease, despite the control of viral replication. By summarizing current knowledge of the innate responses mounted to influenza infection, this review highlights the importance of the respiratory tract epithelial cells as regulators of innate and adaptive immunity to influenza virus.  相似文献

The usefulness of the transcutaneous oxygen tension (tcPO2) in adults is under controversy. In a varied group of respiratory patients, results of the application of this method were compared with those from the arterial blood sampling method. Thirty-eight arterial oxygen tension (PaO2) and tcPO2 simultaneous determinations were made in a group of 22 patients, while in a sitting position; the tcPO2 measurements obtained (68 +/- 12.36 Torr) were significantly lower (p less than 0.05) than the PaO2 values (74 +/- 13.07 Torr). The correlation coefficient was 0.51 (p less than 0.01) with a regression line, tcPO2 = 31.58 + 0.48 PaO2. It is concluded that tcPO2 measurement does not correlate well with PaO2 and that this method cannot be always be safely applied and used in adults with respiratory diseases.  相似文献

Modern data on genesis and functional role of sensations associated with respiration, were analysed. Regularities of human perception of the respiratory cycle's parameters have been cited. Respiratory discomfort occurring in an increased loading of the respiratory system, as well as an imperative respiration stimulus developing in a prolonged apnoe or obvious hypoventilation, are regarded as defensive responses to a threat to normal ventilation of the lungs. The central link in mechanisms of the respiratory sensory system seems to involve pulses from receptors of the respiratory muscles.  相似文献

The new coronavirus pandemic started in China in 2019. The intensity of the disease can range from mild to severe, leading to death in many cases. Despite extensive research in this area, the exact molecular nature of virus is not fully recognized; however, according to pieces of evidence, one of the mechanisms of virus pathogenesis is through the function of viral miRNAs. So, we hypothesized that SARS-CoV-2 pathogenesis may be due to targeting important genes in the host with its miRNAs, which involved in the respiratory system, immune pathways and vitamin D pathways, thus possibly contributing to disease progression and virus survival. Potential miRNA precursors and mature miRNA were predicted and confirmed based on the virus genome. The next step was to predict and identify their target genes and perform functional enrichment analysis to recognize the biological processes connected with these genes in the three pathways mentioned above through several comprehensive databases. Finally, cis-acting regulatory elements in 5′ regulatory regions were analysed, and the analysis of available RNAseq data determined the expression level of genes. We revealed that thirty-nine mature miRNAs could theoretically derive from the SARS-CoV-2 genome. Functional enrichment analysis elucidated three highlighted pathways involved in SARS-CoV-2 pathogenesis: vitamin D, immune system and respiratory system. Our finding highlighted genes' involvement in three crucial molecular pathways and may help develop new therapeutic targets related to SARS-CoV-2.  相似文献

The authors consider the respiratory centre to be the regulator of the respiratory system and to consist of 3 main functional blocks: chemoregulator, respiratory rhythm autogenerator and mechanoregulator, functions of which are provided by the neurons of medulla oblongata. The main aim of chemoregulator block is to maintain the level of ventilation volume speed, which is necessary to compensate the difference between the signals of setting and the firing from the chemoreceptors. The main aim of mechanoregulator block is to provide the functioning of the regulation loop of the respiratory muscles comparing the signals which come from the respiratory autogenerator, and the firing of the mechanoreceptors. The generator unit of the respiratory centre is a set of rhythm-forming associations, the system of 4 neurons (early and late inspiratory and expiratory) are typical among them. The neurons are connected by recurrent inhibitory bonds: the neuron of each rhythm-forming group, successively becoming excited, inhibits the two preceding neurons in the cycle; for all this the neuron of the successive group is released from inhibition and in such a way the rhythmogenesis occurs. The respiratory centre forms a common unit for chemo- and mechanoreceptor loops, through which the circuits of feedback for both loops are connected, providing the regulation of breathing.  相似文献

In brain physiology, cerebrovascular interactions regulate both, vascular functions, such as blood vessel branching and endothelial cell homeostasis, as well as neuronal functions, such as local synaptic activity and adult neurogenesis. In brain pathology, including stroke, HIV encephalitis, Alzheimer Disease, multiple sclerosis, bacterial meningitis, and glioblastomas, rupture of the vasculature allows the entry of blood proteins into the brain with subsequent edema formation and neuronal damage. Fibrin is a blood-derived protein that is not produced by cells of the nervous system, but accumulates only after disease associated with vasculature rupture. This review presents evidence from human disease and animal models that highlight the role of fibrin in nervous system pathology. Our review presents novel experimental data that extend the role of fibrin, from that of a blood-clotting protein in cerebrovascular pathologies, to a component of the perivascular extracellular matrix that regulates inflammatory and regenerative cellular responses in neurodegenerative diseases.  相似文献

The ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) is the major nonlysosomal pathway for intracellular protein degradation, generally requiring a covalent linkage of one or more chains of polyubiquitins to the protein intended for degradation. It has become clear that the UPS plays major roles in regulating many cellular processes, including the cell cycle, immune responses, apoptosis, cell signaling, and protein turnover under normal and pathological conditions, as well as in protein quality control by removal of damaged, oxidized, and/or misfolded proteins. This review will present an overview of the structure, biochemistry, and physiology of the UPS with emphasis on its role in the heart, if known. In addition, evidence will be presented supporting the role of certain muscle-specific ubiquitin protein ligases, key regulatory components of the UPS, in regulation of sarcomere protein turnover and cardiomyocyte size and how this might play a role in induction of the hypertrophic phenotype. Moreover, this review will present the evidence suggesting that proteasomal dysfunction may play a role in cardiac pathologies such as myocardial ischemia, congestive heart failure, and myofilament-related and idiopathic-dilated cardiomyopathies, as well as cardiomyocyte loss in the aging heart. Finally, certain pitfalls of proteasome studies will be described with the intent of providing investigators with enough information to avoid these problems. This review should provide current investigators in the field with an up-to-date analysis of the literature and at the same time provide an impetus for new investigators to enter this important and rapidly changing area of research.  相似文献

Background  Study of endocrine pathology in animal models is critical to understanding endocrine pathology in humans.
Methods  We evaluated 434 endocrine-related diagnoses from 4619 baboon necropsies, established the incidence of spontaneous endocrine pathology, and analyzed the clinical and biochemical data associated with the individual cases.
Results  The most common diagnoses in descending order, were pancreatic islet cell amyloidosis (n = 259), ovarian cysts (n = 50), pituitary adenoma (n = 37), pancreatic islet cell adenoma (n = 20), granulosa cell tumor (n = 15), thyroid adenoma (n = 11), adrenal hyperplasia (n = 10), thyroid carcinoma (n = 8), and pheochromocytoma (n = 6). The incidence of pancreatic islet cell amyloidosis progressively increased with age. Pheochromocytomas were associated with renal and heart failure. The incidence of pancreatic islet cell amyloidosis and adrenal pathology was similar to humans; the incidence of pituitary adenoma and thyroid pathology was lower than in humans.
Conclusions  Endocrine disease in baboons is common and shares clinical and biochemical characteristics with endocrine disease in humans.  相似文献
