The structure of the human caput epididymidis was examined by gross morphological and light and electron microscopic techniques. There were at least seven types of tubules, each characterized by a different epithelium. These tubules were connected with one another by at least eight types of junctions to form a network. Most of the caput epididymidis was composed of efferent ducts. Within these, five types of tubules, each with a different ciliated epithelium, were found in different regions; and four types of junctions between the efferent ducts and the epididymal tubule were observed. The efferent ducts left the testis, initially as parallel straight tubules containing both ciliated and non-ciliated cells in an epithelium of irregular height. Each efferent duct then coiled tortuously into lobules that folded over one another. These efferent ducts then branched out as thin tubules to join a network of dark tubules which were lined by a regular epithelium containing prominently vacuolated, non-ciliated cells. These tubules anastomosed via common cavities characterized by a ciliated cuboidal epithelium and sometimes joined tubules exhibiting a non-vacuolated ciliated epithelium. The latter, as well as typical efferent ducts, made connection with the epididymis proper in both end-to-end and end-to-side junctions. In the more distal junctions with the epididymis, the efferent ducts joined to a transitional epididymal ductule before joining to the side of the epididymis proper. Post-junctional epithelia in the beginning of the epididymis occasionally contained patches of cells characteristic of efferent ducts. Tall cells with long stereocilia constituted a discontinuous "initial segment"-like region of the epididymis. This is the most detailed study so far of the epithelia and the tubule organization in the caput epididymidis of any species, and most of the results are reported for the first time for the human. Although the pattern of the tubule network resembles that of some domestic species, the rich variety of epithelia has not been appreciated before.  相似文献

PG synthetase activity was assessed histochemically in the reproductive tract of male rats. Moderate activity was observed in tails of spermatozoa within the corpus and cauda epididymidis but there was no activity in the caput epididymidis or the seminiferous tubules. The sperm tail activity was maximal for cells within the vas deferens. PG synthetase activity was also observed in individual adipose cells adhering to the testicular capsule, epididymis and vas deferens, and in isolated interstitial cells of the testis and the caput, corpus and cauda epididymidis. Specific cells in the capsules of the testes, epididymis and vas deferens also produced PGs. The activity observed in the interstitial cells of the testis and the caput epididymidis was less than that for the other tissues in terms of the proportion of possible cells. The demonstration of PG synthetase activity paralleled to known loss of arachidonic acid from the phospholipids of the spermatozoa as they pass through the male tract. Endogenous substrate was not limiting in the assay system, even in the testis and caput epididymidis where PG synthesis was not normally observed, indicating that a PG synthesis inhibitor may be present in these two tissues. PG synthetase activity within teased seminiferous tubules was markedly increased by physical trauma. Indomethacin diminished but did not eliminate synthesis.  相似文献

The localization of sulfated glycoprotein-2 (clusterin; SGP-2) was investigated in the rete testis, efferent ducts, and epididymis of the rat using light (LM) and electron (EM) microscope immunocytochemistry. At the LM level, the epithelial cells of the rete testis and efferent ducts demonstrated an intense immunoperoxidase reaction over their apical and supranuclear regions, and sperm in the lumen of the efferent ducts were unreactive. In the EM, gold particles were found exclusively over the endocytic apparatus of these cells. In the proximal area of the epididymal initial segment, an insignificant immunostaining of epithelial cells and sperm was observed. However, the distal area of the initial segment showed a moderate staining over the epithelial principal cells and sperm, while in the intermediate zone of the epididymis a stronger reaction was observed over these cells. The strongest immunoperoxidase reaction was noted in the caput epididymidis, where it formed a distinct mottled pattern. Thus, while some principal cells were intensely stained, others were moderately or weakly stained; a few were completely unreactive. In the corpus and cauda epididymidis, the staining pattern was similar but not as intense. In the EM, only the secretory apparatus of these cells was found to be immunolabeled with gold particles. Sperm in the lumen of these different regions were also labeled. The epithelial clear cells were unreactive throughout the epididymis. Northern blot analysis substantiated these results and showed the presence of highest levels of SGP-2 mRNA in the caput epididymidis, especially in its proximal area, whereas increasingly lower levels were found in the corpus and cauda epididymidis. In summary, these results suggest that testicular SGP-2 dissociates from the sperm during passage through the rete testis and efferent ducts, where it is endocytosed by the epithelial cells lining these regions. In the epididymis, it is replaced by an epididymal SGP-2 that is secreted by the epithelial principal cells of the epididymis. Furthermore, in the epididymis, the principal cells appear to be in different functional states with respect to the secretion of epididymal SGP-2 within a given region of the duct as well as along the epididymal duct.  相似文献

The transepithelial movement of water into the male reproductive tract is an essential process for normal male fertility. Protein water channels, referred to as aquaporins (AQPs), are involved in increasing the osmotic permeability of membranes. This study has examined the expression of AQP1, AQP2, and AQP7 in epithelial cells in adult dog efferent ducts, epididymis, and vas deferens. Samples of dog male reproductive tract comprising fragments of the testis, initial segment, caput, corpus and cauda epididymidis, and vas deferens were investigated by immunohistochemistry and Western blotting procedures to show the localization and distribution of the AQPs. AQP1 was noted in rete testis, in efferent ducts, and in vessels in the intertubular space, suggesting that AQP1 participated in the absorption of the large amount of testicular fluid occurring characteristically in the efferent ducts. AQP2 expression was found in the rete testis, efferent ducts and epididymis, whereas AQP7 was expressed in the epithelium of the proximal regions of the epididymis and in the vas deferens. This is the first time that AQP2 and AQP7 have been observed in these regions of mammalian excurrent ducts, but their functional role in the dog male reproductive tract remains unknown. Investigations of AQP biology could be relevant for clinical studies of the male reproductive tract and to technologies for assisted procreation. We have attempted to transfect testicular spermatozoa with plasmid DNA by direct injection into testes to obtain transgenic animals [this technique was thus termed "testis-mediated gene transfer (TMGT)"]. When injected males were mated with superovulated females 2 and 3 days after injection, (i) high efficiencies (more than 50%) of gene transmission were achieved in the mid-gestational F0 fetuses, (ii) the copy number of plasmid DNA in the fetuses was estimated to be less than 1 copy per diploid cell, and (iii) overt gene expression was not found in these fetuses. These findings suggest the possibility that plasmid DNA introduced into a testis is rapidly transported to the epididymis and then incorporated by epididymal spermatozoa. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the mechanism of TMGT by introducing trypan blue (TB) or Hoechst 33342 directly into testis. We found that TB is transported to the ducts of the caput epididymis via rete testis within 1 min after testis injection, and TB reached the corpus and cauda epididymis within 2-4 days after injection. Staining of spermatozoa isolated from any portion of epididymis was observed 4 days after injection of a solution containing Hoechst 33342. Injection of enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) expression vector/liposome complex into testis resulted in transfection of epithelial cells of epididymal ducts facing the lumen, although the transfection efficiency appeared to be low. In vivo electroporation toward the caput epididymis immediately after injection of EGFP expression vector into a testis greatly improved the uptake of foreign DNA by the epididymal epithelial cells. PCR analysis using spermatozoa isolated from corpus and cauda epididymis 4 days after injection of a DNA/liposome complex into testis revealed exogenous DNA in these spermatozoa even after treatment with DNase I. These findings indicate that exogenous DNA introduced into tesits is rapidly transported to epididymal ducts via the rete testis and efferent ducts, and then incorporated by epithelial cells of epididymis and epididymal spermatozoa.  相似文献

Previously, we identified a 26-kDa fertility-associated protein in bull seminal plasma as lipocalin-type prostaglandin D synthase. The objective of the present study was to immunohistochemically localize this enzyme to the various cell types within the bull testis and seven subsegments of the epididymis, and on ejaculated sperm in order to gain further insight into its potential function in male reproduction. In the testis, immunoperoxidase staining was localized within the elongating spermatids and Sertoli cells of the seminiferous tubules, varying with the stage of the spermatogenic cycle. The highest level of staining occurred during stages III-VII. The cuboidal epithelial cells of the rete testis and efferent ducts were also immunoreactive. Expression of lipocalin-type prostaglandin D synthase was not uniform in the seven epididymal subsegments, suggesting a possible role in sperm maturation. In all epididymal regions, expression was limited to the epithelial principal cells; no immunoreactivity was apparent in other cell types. Lipocalin-type prostaglandin D synthase was strikingly localized in the caput epididymidis, while moderate to weak staining was observed in the remainder of the epididymis. Droplets of reaction product observed within the lumen increased progressively from the caput to cauda. Using fluorescence microscopy, we also localized lipocalin-type prostaglandin D synthase to the apical ridge of the acrosome on ejaculated sperm.  相似文献

The immunohistochemical localization of cellular retinol-binding protein (CRBP) was studied in rat testis and epididymis. Parallel studies were also carried out on the localization of plasma retinol-binding protein (RBP) and transthyretin (TTR) in testis. The studies employed antibodies purified by immunosorbent affinity chromatography, permitting the specific staining and localization of each antigen by the unlabeled peroxidase-antiperoxidase method. For RBP and TTR, specific immune staining was found in the interstitial spaces between the seminiferous tubules, and not in the tubules themselves. In contrast, strong specific immune staining for CRBP was found in the seminiferous tubules, with a striking localization within Sertoli cells. Moreover, a distinct cyclic variation of specific staining for CRBP within Sertoli cells was observed during the spermatogenic cycle. This cyclic variation was seen with regard to both the intensity of staining and to the anatomic distribution of CRBP within the Sertoli cells. Within the epididymis CRBP was selectively localized to the proximal portion of the caput epididymidis, with variations in intensity of the staining of the epithelium of the ducts in different histological zones. Specific immune staining for CRBP was very weak or absent in the other portions of the epididymis. These results were confirmed by radioimmunoassay. Vitamin A-deficient rats showed markedly reduced specific immune staining for CRBP in both testes and epididymides, and greatly reduced levels of CRBP in these tissues on radioimmunoassay. These studies on the localization of CRBP provide information concerning the specific cells and anatomic loci within the testis and epididymis where retinol may be playing an important role in sperm formation and maturation.  相似文献

Water and solute transport in the efferent ducts and epididymis are important for the establishment of the appropriate luminal environment for sperm maturation and storage. Aquaporin 9 (AQP9) is the main water channel in the epididymis, but its regulation is still poorly understood. Components of the kinin-kallikrein system (KKS), leading to the production of bradykinin (BK), are highly expressed in the lumen of the male reproductive tract. We report here that the epididymal luminal fluid contains a significant amount of BK (2 nM). RT-PCR performed on epididymal epithelial cells isolated by laser capture microdissection (LCM) showed abundant BK type 2 receptor (Bdkrb2) mRNA expression but no type 1 receptor (Bdkrb1). Double-immunofluorescence staining for BDKRB2 and the anion exchanger AE2 (a marker of efferent duct ciliated cells) or the V-ATPase E subunit, official symbol ATP6V1E1 (a marker of epididymal clear cells), showed that BDKRB2 is expressed in the apical pole of nonciliated cells (efferent ducts) and principal cells (epididymis). Triple labeling for BDKRB2, AQP9, and ATP6V1E1 showed that BDKRB2 and AQP9 colocalize in the apical stereocilia of principal cells in the cauda epididymidis. While uniform Bdkrb2 mRNA expression was detected in the efferent ducts and along the epididymal tubule, marked variations were detected at the protein level. BDKRB2 was highest in the efferent ducts and cauda epididymidis, intermediate in the distal initial segment, moderate in the corpus, and undetectable in the proximal initial segment and the caput. Functional assays on tubules isolated from the distal initial segments showed that BK significantly increased AQP9-dependent glycerol apical membrane permeability. This effect was inhibited by BAPTA-AM, demonstrating the participation of calcium in this process. This study, therefore, identifies BK as an important regulator of AQP9.  相似文献

In an attempt to determine if changes previously described in the epididymides of cryptorchid testes were related to the elevated environmental temperature or to the absence of normal luminal constituents, rats were divided into four test groups. Group I animals were made unilaterally cryptorchid. Animals in Group II had only the cauda epididymidis of one side maintained within the abdominal cavity (cryptepididymal) while the caput epididymides and testes remained in the scrotum. The testes of animals in Group III remained in the scrotum but had their efferent tubules ligated on one side. Testes of unoperated rats and contralateral testes of the test animals served as controls. The histochemical demonstration of sorbitol dehydrogenase (SDH) was used to determine differences in functional activity and light and electron microscopy were used to determine structural changes. SDH activity could not be demonstrated in the cauda epididymidis of cryptorchid and efferent tubule-ligated animals; animals in which the luminal contents were obviously changed. These same groups of animals showed abnormal folding of the basal surface of the epididymal epithelium at the ultrastructural level. Activity of SDH could be demonstrated in control epididymides and in those that contained normal luminal contents but were maintained at the temperature of the abdominal cavity. The basal surface of the epididymal epithelium was not unusual in these animals. The results indicate that the epididymis is influenced to a greater extent by changes in luminal contents than by temperature elevation.  相似文献

Evidence for the presence of oxytocin in the ovine epididymis   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The testes of several species contain oxytocin and/or neurophysin, but the content or localization of oxytocin in epididymal tissue has not been studied. The present study was undertaken to localize oxytocin and neurophysin in epididymal tissue of the ram, and to quantify oxytocin in the ductus epididymidis and fluids entering and leaving the ductus epididymidis. Neurophysin was not detected in the epididymis; thus, synthesis of oxytocin by the epididymis is unlikely. Immunohistochemical localization of oxytocin was confined to the epithelium and capillaries. Oxytocin immunostaining was most intense for epithelium of the caput and declined in corpus and cauda regions. However, based on radioimmunoassay, no difference in oxytocin concentration was detected among regions of the epididymis. Since rete testis fluid entering and cauda epididymal fluid leaving the epididymis contained at least fourfold more oxytocin than testicular venous plasma, it was concluded that regional differences in epithelial concentration of oxytocin may have been masked by oxytocin contained in the luminal fluid. It was concluded further that the epididymis of the ram does not synthesize oxytocin, but about 22 ng/day enters the epididymis in rete testis fluid. Most of this luminal oxytocin apparently is absorbed by the epithelium of the caput epididymidis, with additional adsorption in the corpus and cauda. Although a role for oxytocin in ductal contractility cannot be excluded, it is more likely that the luminal oxytocin influences epithelial or sperm function.  相似文献

It has recently been shown in mice that the plasma membrane Ca2+-ATPase isoform 4 (PMCA4) is essential for sperm fertilization capacity. We analyzed whether sperm PMCA4 is formed in the rat during spermatogenesis or is synthesized in the epididymis and transferred onto sperm during sperm maturation. We could show that PMCA4 is conserved in sperm from testis to epididymis. In testis, PMCA4 mRNA was restricted to spermatogonia and early spermatocytes, while the PMCA4 protein was detected in spermatogonia, late spermatocytes, spermatids and in epididymal sperm. In epididymis PMCA4 mRNA was localized in basolateral plasma membranes of epithelial cells of the caput, corpus and cauda epididymidis. In contrast, the protein was only detectable in the epithelial cells of the caput, indicating that PMCA4 mRNA is only translated into protein in caput epithelium. In the epididymal corpus and cauda, PMCA4 mRNA and protein, respectively, was localized and in peritubular cells. Furthermore, we detected an identical distribution of PMCA4a and b splice variants in rat testis, epididymal corpus and cauda. In the caput epididymidis, where PMCA4 is located in the epithelium splice variant 4b was more prominent. Further experiments have to clarify the functional importance of the differences in the PMCA4 distribution.  相似文献

Expression of a glutamate transporter (EAAC1), a lipocalin (MEP17) and -galactosidase (-Gal) in histological sections was used to monitor post-natal development of the murine epididymis. Three epithelia in the adult caput of wild-type mice were distinguished: I, the initial segment; II, the proximal caput; and III, the distal caput. The regions in which epithelia I, II and III were situated were called regions I, II and III, respectively. Regions I, II and III developed from a precursor epithelium present on day 14; from day 16, a presumptive region I epithelium was evident and, by day 21, epithelia characteristic of future regions II and III appeared. The relationship between the c-ros gene and the initial segment was studied by investigating the development of the caput epididymidis in transgenic homozygous c-ros knockout (–/–) mice that lack the initial segment, heterozygous (+/–) males and wild-type males in which the efferent ducts had been ligated prepubertally so that the initial segment failed to develop. In mice with prepubertally ligated efferent ducts, regions II and III developed normally but region I was missing in the adult and expression of c-ros was partially decreased. In (–/–) mice, the precursor epithelium was present, differentiation of epithelium II was delayed until day 32 and epithelium I never developed. Thus, caput region I develops before c-ros expression, high testosterone secretion and differentiation of regions II and III but not if the organ is deprived of the oncogene c-ros or testicular exocrine secretions. The caput of the knockout male lacks solely the initial segment so that the efferent ducts are in continuity with the post-initial segment, proximal caput region. The ligand for c-ros may be present in testicular fluid and both ligand and receptor may be necessary for differentiation of epithelia I and II.This work was funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (the male gamete: production, maturation, function, FOR 197/3-1)  相似文献

This study investigated the morphology and immunoexpression of aquaporins (AQPs) 1 and 9 in the rete testis, efferent ducts, epididymis, and vas deferens in the Azara’s agouti (Dasyprocta azarae). For this purpose, ten adult sexually mature animals were used in histologic and immunohistochemical analyses. The Azara’s agouti rete testis was labyrinthine and lined with simple cubic epithelium. Ciliated and non-ciliated cells were observed in the epithelium of the efferent ducts. The epididymal cellular population was composed of principal, basal, apical, clear, narrow, and halo cells. The epithelium lining of vas deferens was composed of the principal and basal cells. AQPs 1 and 9 were not expressed in the rete testis. Positive reaction to AQP1 was observed at the luminal border of non-ciliated cells of the efferent ducts, and in the peritubular stroma and blood vessels in the epididymis, and vas deferens. AQP9 was immunolocalized in the epithelial cells in the efferent ducts, epididymis and vas deferens. The morphology of Azara’s agouti testis excurrent ducts is similar to that reported for other rodents such as Cuniculus paca. The immunolocalization results of the AQPs suggest that the expression of AQPs is species-specific due to differences in localization and expression when compared to studies in other mammals species. The knowledge about the expression of AQPs in Azara’s agouti testis excurrent ducts is essential to support future reproductive studies on this animal, since previous studies show that AQPs may be biomarkers of male fertility and infertility.  相似文献

Inhibin was localized in the ovine testis, excurrent ducts, and accessory sex glands by using a rabbit antiserum against a synthetic polypeptide representing the first 30 amino acids of porcine inhibin alpha-subunit. Concentrations of inhibin in fluids entering and leaving the epididymis also were determined in a radioimmunoassay using the same antibody. In the testis, immunostaining of inhibin was conspicuous in the seminiferous epithelium. Leydig cells occasionally were stained and the tunica media of blood vessels always was stained. Intense staining was observed in the epithelia lining the rete testis and ductuli efferentes. Staining also was intense in the epithelium of the initial segment and proximal caput epididymidis, and became less intense along the length of the epididymis. These observations were consistent with concentrations of inhibin in rete testis fluid (8.2 pmol/ml) entering the ductuli efferentes and in cauda epididymal plasma (0.67 pmol/ml) leaving the epididymis. Epithelia of ampullary and vesicular glands and of some prostatic acini were positively stained, but bulbourethral glands were never stained. Adrenal cortex, some proximal convoluted tubules in the kidney, and transitional epithelium of the urethra also were stained. Based on radioimmunoassay data and fluid flow rates for the ram, it was concluded that almost all of the 328 pmol inhibin that enters the ductuli efferentes daily is endocytosed in the proximal parts of the excurrent duct system. The physiological role(s) for inhibin, or inhibin-like peptides, in the excurrent duct system remains speculative.  相似文献

Rete testis and epididymis are rare locations for primary tumors or metastasis. Assuming that this may be related to expression level of angiogenic inhibitors, we focused our study on the expression pattern of collagen 18/endostatin. In situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry for collagen 18 and endostatin were carried out on sections of human rete testis and epididymis as well as on epididymal adenoma and human testicular tissue with or without carcinoma in situ (CIS). In situ hybridization revealed strong expression of collagen 18 mRNA in rete testis, efferent ducts and epididymal duct. Immunostaining showed collagen 18 in epithelium and basement membrane as well as in blood vessels of rete testis. Further, in both efferent ducts and epididymal duct, collagen 18 was mainly localized in the basement membrane of these ducts and of the blood vessel wall. Endostatin immunostaining was localized in the epithelium of rete testis, efferent ducts and epididymal duct. This pattern of endostatin staining was absent in epididymal adenoma tissue while tumor associated blood vessels exhibited strong endostatin staining. No endostatin staining was detectable in normal germinal epithelium and CIS cells while Leydig cells exhibited strong endostatin staining. High endostatin expression in epididymis may protect this organ against tumor development. Gene therapeutic strategies providing high expression of endostatin in normal epithelia may be useful to prevent tumor development.  相似文献

In primates, expression of the EP2 gene is androgen-dependent and epididymis-specific. EP2 mRNA expression was investigated in caput, corpus, and cauda regions of rat epididymis and in 15 other rat tissues. Polymerase chain reaction and Northern analyses showed that rat EP2 is expressed predominantly in the proximal caput epididymidis. EP2 mRNA expression was determined in proximal epididymides from castrated, sham-operated, and efferent duct-ligated rats. In castrated rats, EP2 mRNA decreased to <10% of that in sham-operated rats between Days 3 and 4 postcastration, demonstrating the androgen dependence of EP2 expression. In epididymides ligated unilaterally at the efferent ducts, EP2 mRNA levels were approximately equal to those in the unligated contralateral epididymides or in sham-operated rats, indicating that EP2 expression does not depend on testicular factors. In bilaterally castrated rats, immediate and delayed testosterone replacement showed the dependence of EP2 expression on circulating androgens. Injection of testosterone propionate (TP) on Days 0, 1, 2, and 3 postcastration maintained EP2 mRNA levels approximately equal to those in sham-operated rats. Starting at Day 4 postcastration, daily injection of TP for 7 days restored EP2 mRNA to approximately normal levels. These data indicate for the rat that EP2 is expressed specifically in the proximal caput epididymidis and that its expression depends on circulating androgens but not on testicular factors.  相似文献

The Notch signaling pathway is involved in a variety of developmental processes. Here, we characterize the phenotypes developing in the reproductive organs of male transgenic (Tg) mice constitutively expressing the activated mouse Notch1 intracellular domain (Notch1(intra)) under the regulatory control of the mouse mammary tumor virus (MMTV) long terminal repeat (LTR). Tg expression was detected in testis, vas deferens and epididymis by Northern blot analysis. In situ hybridization with a Notch1-specific probe lacked sensitivity to detect expression in normal-appearing cells, but demonstrated expression in hyperplastic epithelial cells of the vas deferens, epididymis and efferent ducts. Tg males from three independent founder lines were sterile. Histological analysis of reproductive organs of young Tg males (postnatal ages 8 and 21) showed no difference compared to those of non-Tg males. In contrast, in adult Tg mice from day 38 onwards, the efferent ducts, the vas deferens and most epididymal segments revealed bilateral epithelial cell hyperplasia with absence of fully differentiated epithelial cells. Electron microscopy confirmed the uniformly undifferentiated state of these cells. Immunohistochemistry with anti-PCNA antibody also revealed enhanced proliferation of Tg epididymis. In adult Tg testis, the different generations of germ cells of seminiferous tubules appeared normal, although some tubules were highly dilated and revealed an absence of early and/or late spermatids. The epithelial cells of the Tg tubuli recti and rete testis were not abnormal, but the rete testis was highly dilated and contained numerous spermatozoa, suggesting a downstream blockage. Consistent with a blockage of efferent ducts often seen at the rete testis/efferent duct interface, spermatozoa were absent in epididymis of all adult Tg mice and in all highly hyperplastic efferent duct tubules of these Tg mice. Such a blockage was visualized by injection of Evans blue dye into the rete testis lumen. Finally, the presence of ectopic hyperplastic efferent duct tubules was observed within the testicular parenchyma itself, outside their normal territory, suggesting that Notch1 signaling is involved in the establishment of these borders. This phenotype seems to represent a novel developmental defect in mammals. Together, these results show that constitutive Notch1 signaling significantly affects the development of male reproductive organs.  相似文献

The concentrations of cytoplasmic receptor sites for androgens in the caput, corpus and cauda epididymidis, and the effect of ligation of the efferent ducts and testosterone treatment after bilateral castration on the concentration of receptors in the caput have been measured. Androgen receptors in the ventral prostate have been measured in the same animals for comparison. The caput has the highest concentration of receptor sites, the corpus the lowest. The ligation of the efferent ducts has no effect on this concentration which is dependent on testicular androgens. The present data do not yet allow explanation of the differential response of the different regions of the epididymis and of the other accessory glands to the administration of androgens.  相似文献

The microanatomy of the testes and testicular ducts (rete testis, ductuli efferentes, ductus epididymis and ductus deferens) of Leiolepis ocellata (Agamidae) was investigated using light microscopy including histochemistry. Each testis contains seminiferous tubules and interstitial tissues. The former house spermatogenic cells (spermatogonia A & B, preleptotene, primary and secondary spermatocytes, spermatids (steps 1–8) and spermatozoa) and Sertoli cells, while the latter comprise peritubular and intersitial tissues. The rete testis is an anastomosing duct, having intratesticular and extratesticular portions. The proximal region of ductuli efferentes has wider outer ductal and luminal diameters than those of the distal region. The convoluted ductus epididymis is subdivided into four regions (initial segment, caput, corpus and cauda), based on the ductal diameter, epithelium characteristics and cell components. The ductus deferens has the greatest diameter and is divided into the ductal and ampulla ductus deferens. The ductal portion is subdivided into the proximal and distal regions, based on the epithelium types and ductal diameters. The ampulla ductus deferens is a fibromuscular tube, having numerous mucosal folds projecting into the lumen. Spermiophagy is detectable in the ductus epididymis and ductus deferens. The present results contribute to improved fundamental knowledge on the microanatomy of the reptilian reproductive system.  相似文献
