The composition of the hydrobiid fauna in a coastal water of the southern Baltic was studied in 1990/91 at three stations with different sediment characteristics (grain size, organic content). Four species were found (Hydrobia ventrosa, H. ulvae, H. neglecta and Potamopyrgus jenkinsi). H. ventrosa was dominant at all stations. The mean hydrobiid abundances were 4,000 (stn. C), 18,000 (stn. B) and 40,000 (stn. A) ind./m2 respectively. Abundance was found to correlate with the organic content of the sediment. The reproduction and growth of H. ventrosa was studied. Two reproduction phases were observed, one in summer and the other in late autumn. The autumn reproduction peaks were staggered owing to the different growth rates at the various stations. Possible correlations between the differences in shell size of H. ventrosa at the various stations and both sediment characteristics and abundance are discussed.  相似文献

In May 1998, during the fifty-first voyage on board the research vessel Professor Vodyanitskii, a comparative study was conducted of the species diversity of green and purple sulfur bacteria in the water column of the chemocline zone at deep-sea stations and on the bottom surface of the Black Sea shallow regions. At three deep-sea stations, the accumulation of photosynthetic bacteria in the chemocline zone at a depth of 85–115 m was revealed on the basis of the distribution of potential values of carbon dioxide light fixation. The location of the site of potential carbon dioxide light fixation suggests that the photosynthesis may be determined by the activity of the brown Chlorobium sp., earlier revealed at these depths. Enrichment cultures of brown sulfur bacteria were obtained from samples taken at the deep-sea stations. By morphology, these bacteria, assigned to Chlorobium sp., appear as nonmotile straight or slightly curved rods 0.3–0.5 × 0.7–1.2 µm in size; sometimes, they form short chains. Ultrathin sections show photosynthetic antenna-like structures, chlorosomes, typical of Chlorobiaceae. The cultures depended on the presence of NaCl (20 g/l) for growth, which corresponds to the mineralization of Black Sea water. The bacteria could grow photoautotrophically, utilizing sulfide, but the Black Sea strains grew much more slowly than the known species of brown sulfur bacteria isolated from saline or freshwater meromictic lakes. The best growth of the strains studied in this work occurred in media containing ethanol (0.5 g) or sodium acetate (1 g/l) and low amounts of sulfide (0.4 mM), which is consistent with the conditions of syntrophic growth with sulfidogens. The data obtained allow us to conclude that the cultures of brown sulfur bacteria are especially adapted to developing at large depths under conditions of electron donor deficiency owing to syntrophic development with sulfate reducers. The species composition of the photosynthetic bacteria developing in the bottom sediments of shallow stations differed substantially from that observed at deep-sea stations. Pure cultures of the green Chlorobium sp. BS 1C and BS 2C (chlorobactin as the carotenoid), purple sulfur bacteria Chromatium sp. BS 1Ch (containing spirilloxanthine series pigments), and Thiocapsa marina BS 2Tc (containing the carotenoid okenone) were obtained from samples of sediments at shallow-water stations. The composition and distribution of the macrobenthic polychaete fauna in the Evros Delta (North Aegean Sea) have been investigated by means of 4 replicate quantitative samples collected at 35 sites. 10 species were found and, in additional qualitative samples, the sedentary species Ficopomatus enigmaticus was collected. On the basis of the similarity in distribution among stations, 3 groups of species have been distinguished. One of these groups includes the species Spio decoratus and Hediste diversicolor which were both dominant and present at almost all stations. The distribution of species in the study area seems to depend on factors such as salinity, granulometric composition and organic matter of the sediment and interspecific competition, but mainly on the degree of “confinement”, namely the degree of exchange with the open sea. At the most isolated stations, the lowest number of species and the highest values of abundance and biomass were recorded.  相似文献

Temporal and spatial variability of micro and mesozooplankton was studied in 1998 and 1999 at four stations in the Neretva Channel area influenced by the Neretva river and the open waters of the south Adriatic Sea. The area is orthophosphate limited, but an excessive accumulation of land derived nitrogen is prevented by phytoplankton uptake and the general circulation pattern. Microzooplankton was dominated by ciliates, with average abundances comparable to other Adriatic channel areas (122–543 ind. l−1). Non-loricate ciliates (NLC) generally peaked in the warmer periods, but a winter increase was evident towards the inner part of the channel. Tintinnid abundances generally increased in autumn. A significant relationship with temperature was not recorded for either protozoan group. An inverse relationship between NLC and salinity might be indirectly caused by their preference for the food abundant surface layer. Mesozooplankton was dominated by copepods, with distinct summer maxima throughout the area and pronounced winter maxima of >10,000 ind. m−3 at the inner stations. The community was predominantly neritic but the open sea waters were important in structuring the mesozooplankton assemblage at all stations during the autumn–winter period. Although temperature regulated the seasonal dynamics of most metazoans and the species succession in the copepod community, small omnivorous copepods (Oncaea media complex, Oithona nana and Euterpina acutifrons) dominated regardless of the season. The molluscan distribution shows a zonation mainly related to the degree of “confinement”. Based on similarity in distribution among stations, 2 groups of species were distinguished. One group includes marine species (Tellina tenuis, Bittium reticulatum) found only in coastal stations and the second group is typical of estuarine species (Hydrobia acuta, Abra ovata and Cerastoderma glaucum) distributed in almost all stations. Spatial fluctuations of the 3 estuarine species reflect their preferences in the various parameters (“confinement”, salinity, grain size and organic matter of sediment). Mesozooplankton distribution was investigated under the sea ice in the Kara Sea at five stations in February of 2002 by Juday net hauls. Copepods dominated the mesozooplankton community, accounting for 46–88% of the total abundance and 68–99% of the biomass. Oithona similis was the most abundant species in Yenisei Bay, being present with all age stages (including egg-carrying females). For the first time, Oithona atlantica (CIII–CV copepodites, females and males) were found in the southeastern Kara Sea. In the southern part, Copepoda nauplii prevailed in terms of total abundance while the mesozooplankton in the northwestern part was entirely dominated by older stages of Pseudocalanus minutus. The mesozooplankton structure appears to be determined by available food resources and increased water temperature due to a strong influence of warm Atlantic waters.  相似文献

Six sandy beach stations along the Jordan Gulf of Aqaba were selected for macrofaunal examination during November 1980. Fifteen core samples (0.01 m2 to a depth of 10–15 cm) were taken at each station; five at the high tide line, five at the low tide line, and five midway. Twenty-two taxa were encountered from all stations. Polychaetes were the most diverse group with seven taxa, followed by molluscs and crustaceans with six and five taxa respectively. Animal diversity, using the Shannon-Wiener Index, was generally low. Based on the biological index value of McCLOSKEY (1970), seven taxa were considered the community dominants. These are: the polychaetes, Glycera tesselata, Pisione remota, Saccocirrus sp., and Perinereis nuntia; the isopod Eurydice arabica; a nemertean and an oligochaete.  相似文献

During the austral summers of 2003 and 2006, two cruise were carried out in the Bellingshausen Sea and west off Antarctic Peninsula on board of RV Hespérides. Samples were collected at 26 stations with a multinet Macer-GIROQ sled. A total of 557 cumaceans belonging to 36 species of five families were collected. Nannastacidae was the most abundant and speciose family. Hemilamprops pellucidus and Cyclaspis gigas were the most frequently collected species (38.5% of sampling stations). Cumella asutralis reached the highest density (514.7 individuals/1,000 m2 at stn 7). Maximum species richness (S = 15) and diversity (H′ = 3.53) was observed at one of the deepest station. Positive correlations were found between the cumacean distribution and the organic content and percentage of coarse sand of the sediments. Predominance of Nannastacidae in front of other cumaceans could be explained by their type of feeding (i.e. predators or scavengers), which may be more successful in the deep seafloor of an oligotrophic sea such as studied herein. The presence in the deepest sampling sites of species shared with faunas of surrounding oceans suggests a link between these faunas and those of deep Antarctic waters.  相似文献

Nutrient benthic fluxes, as well as sediment phosphorus concentration at the open sea and coastal water stations of the Central and South Adriatic were studied during 1997–98. The fluxes were in the ranges: 0.16–2.67 mmol m–2 d–1 (silicate); –0.031–0.164 mmol m–2 d–1 (phosphate); –0.51–2.03 mmol m–2 d–1 (ammonia); and –1.32–1.62 mmol m–2 d–1 (nitrate + nitrite). Silicate flux showed a gradient from the coastal area to the open sea. Ammonia was the main nitrogen species in the flux at the estuary and bay stations, while the sum of nitrate and nitrite was predominant at the open sea stations. Relationships between phosphate and ammonia fluxes (r = 0.699, p<0.01) as well as phosphate and silicate (r = 0.529, p<0.01) were established.  相似文献

The benthic fauna off the Victoria-Land-Coast, Ross Sea (Antarctica) was investigated during the 19th Italica expedition in February 2004. Samples were taken along a latitudinal transect from Cape Adare down to Terra Nova Bay at water depths ranging from 84 to 515 m. A Rauschert dredge was used at 18 stations to collect epi- and infaunal macrobenthos. 9,494 specimens of Isopoda were collected, representing 19 families. Desmosomatidae were the most abundant family (35,297 ind/1,000 m2), followed by Paramunnidae (23,973 ind/1,000 m2). Paramunnidae was the most frequent taxon and was collected at all stations, in contrast to the Desmosomatidae, which did not occur at any station off Cape Adare.  相似文献

Temporal and spatial recruitment patterns of the cyclostome bryozoan Disporella hispida were monitored using settlement plates arranged along three benthic communities of an artificial reef at Blanes (NE Spain, NW Mediterranean). At the study site, the species mainly inhabits semi-obscure caves. By studying recruitment over one year I first inferred the larval release period for D. hispida and described its temporal occurrence in the communities and stations studied. Secondly, I attempted to determine whether the predicted restricted dispersal may account for the species' distribution at the study site. To this purpose, I compared the distribution of early recruits (15 days old) with that of adults. I also investigated environmental factors which may affect the extent of larval dispersal, and described the effects of post-recruitment processes occurring over a 4-month period. The brooding period, inferred from the study of early recruitment, was linked to spring-increments and autumn-decrements of water temperatures. Early recruits were distributed non-randomly in the communities and stations studied, being most abundant in the habitats where adults live. Strong hydrodynamic events seemed to modify this pattern, allowing recruitment out of the parental communities, and may hinder settlement. Post-recruitment mortality events were likely to prevent colonisation of habitats where the species do not live. Overall, philopatry and low post-recruitment mortality in the parental communities appeared to be the main mechanisms determining the distribution of D. hispida at the study site. Seasonal changes in the microphytoplankton assemblages were examined in the coastal zone of Bozcaada Island with regard to some major physical and chemical variables. Samples were collected from May 2000 to December 2001 at four stations. A total of 108 dinoflagellates, 102 diatoms, 1 chrysophycean, 3 dictyochophycean, and 1 prasinophycean species were identified and quantified during the study period. Diatoms and dinoflagellates were the most important in terms of species number and abundance. The maximum values of total microphytoplankton were observed at 0.5 m depth (46.2 × 103 cells l−1 at st. 3) in May as this was the month when the diatom Pseudo-nitzschia pungens bloomed. Chlorophyll (chl) a concentration ranged between 0.08 (August) and 0.78 μg l−1 (February). May was another important month in which chlorophyll a increased (0.41–0.47 μg l−1). Species diversity values (Hlog2) ranged from 1.66 bits (June, 20 m) to 4.11 bits (November, 0.5 m). The increase was attributed to a more balanced distribution of abundance among species. The amounts of nitrate + nitrite (0.6−3.7 μg-at N l−1), phosphate (0.2−0.6 μg-at P l−1) and silicate (0.7−2.5 μg-at Si l−1) were recorded on each sampling occasion. Nutrient concentrations and chl a values of the research area were found to be poorer than those of the many other coastal areas in the northeastern Mediterranean. The mean atomic ratio of nitrogen to phosphorus varied from 1.3 (June) to 12.9 (February). This ratio was lower than the Redfield ratio of 16 for ocean phytoplankton, and phytoplankton was potentially limited by nitrogen for most of the months. Abstract

The Changjiang estuary and its adjacent East China Sea (ECS) have been considered as one of the most dynamic areas significantly contributing to elemental exchanges globally. The purpose of this study was to understand the alteration of microbial consortia at the interface of riverine and coastal environments in relation to environmental variations as well as their roles in biogeochemical cycling at this dynamic region. We sampled surface sediment samples at 4 stations from the estuary to coastal regions of the ECS. Along with collections of physicochemical parameters, we sequenced bacterial 16S rRNA genes of clones from each sample. Results showed a distinct transition of bacterial community from typical freshwater sediment phyla (e.g., Betaproteobacteria and Firmicutes) to those commonly inhabited in saline environments (e.g., Deltaproteobacteria and Gammaproteobacteria). The bacterial group at the transition zone characterized by high accumulation of organic matters and intense mixing of riverine and coastal waters was most diverse. Bacterial community structures at two ECS stations showed a similar pattern but contained different dominant taxa, shifting from Deltaproteobacteria-affiliated sulfate-reducing bacteria at the station closer to the shore to Gammaproteobacteria-affiliated nitrate-reducing bacteria further offshore. It suggested that the sedimentary bacterial community structure was related to salinity, sediment type, and substrate availability and composition.  相似文献

A seafloor crater in the German Bight and its effects on the benthos   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
In 1963 a deep crater was formed about 65 m below sea level in the western part of the German Bight, due to a gas eruption caused by drilling carried out from the platform ’Mr. Louie’. The study area is situated in a sandy to muddy bottom area inhabited by an Amphiura filiformis association (sensu Salzwedel et al. 1985). The crater, sometimes called ’Figge-Maar’, functions as a sediment trap, concentrating particles and organisms from the water column, thus leading to extreme sedimentation rates of about 50 cm, on average, per year. Crater stations, compared with stations situated in the vicinity, show enrichments of juveniles. Echinoderms, especially the subsurface-dwelling heart urchin Echinocardium cordatum and ophiuroids are responsive to enrichment. Other species that are typical of the Amphiura filiformis association are shown to be unable to cope with the special conditions in the crater. Macrozoobenthic community structure was studied in two surveys along a transect of 13 stations following the submersed Pleistocene Elbe valley in the south-eastern North Sea during May to June 2000 and March 2001. Two replicates of bottom samples were taken with a van Veen grab of 0.1 m2 sampling size. In order to analyse the benthic macrofauna communities, the animals obtained were identified and counted, and MDS and cluster analysis were performed. Out of 200 taxa identified, 84 were polychaetes, 46 molluscs, 40 crustaceans, 15 echinoderms, and 15 belonged to other groups. Mean abundance was 4,860 individuals per m2, mean biomass 32.9 g ash free dry mass per m2. Mean diversity was 1.76 and mean evenness 0.54. The macrofauna of the Pleistocene Elbe valley is composed of three associations according to the cluster analysis. Each association is described by a combination of characterizing and discriminating species. An Amphiura-brachiataTellimya-ferruginosa-association was found in the south-eastern part of the depression, whereas a transitional association with elements of both assemblages lead to an Amphiura-filiformisGalathowenia-oculataNuculoma-tenuis-association in the north-western part of the valley. In the context of the entire southern North Sea, both associations are small-scale substructures, and as such are contained in the Nucula-nitidosa-community and the Amphiura-filiformis-community, respectively. A north-westward shift of the community of the southern Elbe valley was found and discussed as a possible consequence of warm winters of the last decades.  相似文献

The onychopod cladoceran Cercopagis that recently invaded the Baltic Sea is reported from new zones of the northern Baltic proper. Because of successful survival and an expanding distribution range, the addition of Cercopagis to the Baltic fauna is considered to be permanent. What has previously been cited as Cercopagis pengoi encompasses the morphology of several other species, subspecies and forms. Either a number of morphologically similar species is present, or there is a number of spurious species in Cercopagis. The last hypothesis is favoured. The spatial distribution pattern of Cercopagis, as well as that of total zooplankton, was correlated with depth. Deep (>100 m) and shallow (<10 m) stations had significantly lower abundance than stations of intermediate depth (<100 m). An overview of the distribution of C. pengoi group in fresh and brackish waters suggests a high tolerance to environmental factors, but with differences among taxa. Due to this ecological flexibility, the colonization of the Baltic is not unexpected. Increasing salinity may restrict dispersal of cercopagids to the southern areas of the Baltic and to the North Sea, but inland lakes (e.g. in Sweden) present an ecological profile suitable for colonization.  相似文献

Two Jordanian sandy beaches, one at the northern end and the other at the southern end near the Saudi-Jordanian border, were examined during November 1984 to October 1985. Sediments of the South station were made of coarser sand than the North station. In general, low organic carbon and calcium carbonate levels were found at both stations. A total of 15839 animals representing 45 taxa were collected from both stations. Major differences in community structure were found between the two stations. An average density of 7981/m2, 39 taxa. an average diversity value of 1.78 and an evenness of 0.37 were characteristic of the South station. Lower number of taxa (39) and density (818/m2) were found on the North station. However, the average diversity (3.18) and evenness (0.74) were higher. Using the biological index value of MCCLOSKEY (1970), the archiannelid Saccocirrus sp. was the most dominant species at the South station and the bivalve Tellina perna at the North station.  相似文献

Near reef abundance and coast–offshore distribution of tuna larvae around Minicoy Island were studied based on three cruises carried out on board FORV Sagar Sampada during 2014–15. The samples were collected by oblique tows using bongo twin nets (300 micron) for three seasons (Fall inter-monsoon (FIM), Spring inter-monsoon (SIM) and Summer monsoon (SM)) in six on–offshore stations ranging from 1 to 20?km off-shore of the Minicoy. Results indicated that the tuna larvae aggregate in the near reef waters and total tuna larvae abundance (all the species combined) shows a decreasing trend towards off-shore. Tuna larvae are found to be more abundant during SM and FIM. Comparison of the species-wise variation in tuna larvae for one season (SM) indicated that the larvae of Euthunnus affinis (32.5%) dominated among the tuna species, followed by Auxis spp. (31.6%), Thunnus spp. (3.9%) and Katsuwonus pelamis (2.7%). A pattern of highest larvae abundance in the near reef areas was observed except for Thunnus larvae. GAM indicated that mean seawater temperature and mean seawater salinity are the major environmental factors that significantly influence the larvae abundance, particularly for Thunnus followed by Katsuwonus pelamis, E. affinis and Auxis spp. The study confirms that the environmental parameters show high variation between stations and among transects as a result of the complex oceanographic characteristics around the islands. Further studies with better understanding of the larvae dynamics and their association with the environmental parameters including physical processes are essential to elucidate these relationships more clearly.  相似文献

南海北部海域春季浮游细菌和病毒空间分布及其影响因素   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
应用流式细胞检测技术测定了2014年春季南海北部海域浮游细菌和病毒丰度,研究了其水平和垂直分布特征并对其与环境因子的相关性进行了分析。结果表明,调查海区浮游细菌和病毒丰度分别介于1.28×10~4—9.96×10~5个/m L和4.69×10~5—5.39×10~7个/m L之间,二者丰度随水深的增加基本呈现逐渐下降的趋势,而水平分布趋势不明显。浮游细菌和病毒丰度与温度、p H和溶解氧显著正相关,与水深、盐度、活性磷酸盐、硅酸盐、硝酸盐和总氮则呈显著负相关关系(P0.01),说明该海域细菌和病毒数量受到上述环境因子的共同调控。分析浮游细菌和病毒的相互关系发现,VBR(Virus to bacteria ratio)平均32.23,最小值位于S11站位25m层,最大值则位于S7站位75m层,分别为4.80和264.63,VBR值小于100的站位占到调查站位总数的95.6%。VBR值除与细菌呈显著负相关关系外(P0.01),与其它环境因子相关性不明显(P0.05),说明该海区细菌是病毒的主要寄主,病毒可能主要是以噬菌体的状态存在。  相似文献
