A survey of the bathyal trawling grounds in the Gulf of Antalya (Turkish Mediterranean Sea) yielded 34 species of decapod crustaceans. Four species (Funchalia villosa, Plesionika acanthonotus, P. gigliolii, Monodaeus couchii) are recorded for the first time from the Levant Sea. The number of marine decapod species reported for Turkey rises to 265 and the number reported from the Turkish Mediterranean Sea to 211.  相似文献

This paper provides a review of the current status and historical distribution of Lobotes surinamensis in the Mediterranean Sea. Thirty two records were compiled for the period between 1968 and 2016, which shows that the species is in the Mediterranean much more abundant than previously understood.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the community structure of deep sea fishes in the northern Gulf of Aqaba. Deep fish traps, short lines and long lines were deployed at depth ranges from 60 to 700 m between June 2014 and May 2015. A total of 369 fish individuals belonging to 37 species in 21 families were collected. The most abundant family observed in deep fish traps and short line was the commercially important family Sparidae, whereas the most abundant family in long line catch was the commercially unimportant fish family Muraenidae. The most abundant fish species sampled by deep fish traps and shortline was Blueskin Seabream, Polysteganus coeruleopunctatus. The most abundant species in long line catch White-spotted Moray, Gymnothorax johnsoni. In fish traps and with short line, the most commonly caught species was Blueskin Seabream. White-spotted Moray was the most common long line catch. Depth distribution for 37 deep fish species and GIS maps for the two main commercial fish species Blueskin Seabream and Bigeye Hound Shark, Iago omanensis were documented.  相似文献

Present study evaluated the population status of the Bluemouth (Helicolenus dactylopterus) population distributed in the Antalya Bay for the first time, within the scope of two different surveys carried out in monthly basis, between September 2009 and June 2011 (200–900 m). In accordance with the major availability of the food, 80.9% of the total catch (in number) of the species at the upper slope (200–499 m). The 80.8% of all recruits’ specimens inhabits between 200 and 399 m while 72% of the total spawner specimens (TL ≥ 20 cm) inhabits at depths of between 600 and 799 m. Highest average abundance of the species was estimated 1,060 n/km2 (400 m), while the highest average biomass was 93 kg/km2 (600 m). Lengths of individuals ranged from 4 to 36 cm, and estimated ages from 0 to 27 years. Parameters of the von Bertalanffy growth curves were L   = 34.14 cm, K = 0.09 year?1, and t0 = ?1.28 years. Margin band analysis confirmed the formation of a single growth annulus per year. In the central part of the otolith, close to the nucleus, a strongly marked check ring is formed which presenting first time for this species in the literature. The duration of the spawning stage for the females was observed between December and February. Selectivity rate of the commercially used 44 mm diamond codend mesh, with a 7.4 cm catch size, found to be very low for the species (a first spawning size of 17–20 cm). The stock of Bluemouth in the Antalya Bay was considered in above reference levels and in high abundance status due to estimated low fishing mortality (0.067?1), exploitation rate status below reference level (0.207?1) and Fcurr is very low than reference point (0.219?1).  相似文献

Additions and changes to the scientific and common names of southern African freshwater fishes made since 1993, are recorded and explained. Nineteen new scientific names are listed including five new species, three genus-name changes, three species-name changes and four new records from the area. Recommended common names for nineteen species are listed.  相似文献

The opening of the Suez Canal in 1869 caused a migration generally from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean, rarely the opposite direction, and 63 lessepsian fish species penetrated into the Mediterranean by way of this canal. These species usually spread northward and most of them can establish wide populations in this area, but some of them can not be successful with respect to establishment. Thus, it is clearly seen that there are a lot of factors influencing the success of species with respect to migration, spreading and establishment. So, the lessepsian migration has been formed by the effects of these factors. Lessepsian species also have the ability to adapt to the ecological conditions of their new environment. Therefore, the influential factors, their effectiveness and the observed changes in lessepsian species due to the effects of these factors have been discussed by considering fishes in this paper.  相似文献

New records of marine Tardigrada in the Mediterranean Sea   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Meiofauna from Chafarinas archipelago (western Mediterranean, N. Africa) were studied, and marine Tardigrada were identified to species level. A total of 15 species, belonging to families Stygarctidae, Halechiniscidac (Subfamilies Halechiniscinae, Florarctinae, Styraconyxinae and Tanarctinae), Batillipedidae, and Echiniscoididae, were found for the first time from the Alboran Sea and southwestern Mediterranean area. Four species and one subspecies are new records for the Mediterranean Sea: I'ioractus acer, F. asper, P. stellatus, Actinarctus doryphorus and Echiniscoides sigismundi hispaniensis. The male of Floractus stellatus , previously unknown to science, is described. Many species have been recorded for the first time in different sedimentary environments, such as midlittoral pools, very shallow gravels, pools in a mixed rocky environment or between Posidonia oceanica meadows, 'Amphioxus' gravels, and coastal detritic.  相似文献

Body morphology is a valuable feature for distinguishing teleostean fishes. However, the utility of character variation in separate body regions has yet to be tested. The taxonomy of the Gerreidae family is controversial due to character overlapping among its fish species. This work aims to analyze and compare the body shape variation in three regions, cephalic, trunk, and caudal peduncle, using landmark data and geometric morphometric methods in 17 species and five genera of the family Gerreidae. The pattern of shape variation for the cephalic region consisted of well-defined character states exclusive of each species analyzed. Shape variation in the trunk and caudal peduncle regions does not distinguish all species in this study. This study showed that the dorsal cephalic profile is highly variable among the species, therefore, shape variation in this region is useful for distinguishing Gerreidae species. In contrast, some species within the same genus share similar shape states in the trunk and caudal peduncle regions, with the most shape variation in the dorsal profile and anal fin for the trunk and in the middle of the caudal peduncle.  相似文献

Abstract

Melittobia australica Girault is a new record for New Zealand and from Vespula spp. In the Wellington district, M. australica was found in an embryo colony of the German wasp Vespula germanica (Fabricius) and in pupae of the mason wasp Pison spinolae Shuckard in 1980 and 1981 respectively. Melittobia was recorded in nests of P. morosum Smith in Canterbury, New Zealand in 1976 and 1977. The original sources of M. australica were considered.

The validity of the earliest record of Melittobia in a social wasp host is reconsidered. It is concluded Melittobia has been underated as a parasite of social wasps.  相似文献

Fish otoliths morphology is an important aid in taxonomic, phylogenetic, palaeoichthyological and dietary studies. This study compares the morphology of the otoliths of the myctophid species, Ceratoscopelus maderensis, and two phosichthyid species, Vinciguerria attenuata and V. poweriae, collected from the Strait of Messina in the central Mediterranean Sea to identify the most appropriate taxonomical characters that separate these species. Ontogenetic changes in the otoliths of the studied fishes are evident. The sagitta of the juvenile C. maderensis is the most similar to the adult otoliths, while otoliths of the juvenile V. poweriae are the least similar to the adult otoliths. A discussion on possible geographical variations in otolith's morphology is provided by comparing our results with sagitta's images of C. maderensis, V. attenuata and V. poweriae in other studies.  相似文献
