The embryo sac formation, endosperm formation, and embryo development in all species of JapaneseMitella andM. diphylla of North America were studied. Monosporic 8-nucleate embryo sac formation of thePolygonum type was found in all the species. In endosperm formation, the Cellular type was found in all species of sect.Mitellaria, and the Helobial type inM. nuda, M. diphylla, andM. integripetala. The Helobial type inM. integripetala was somewhat aberrant and approximated to the Cellular type. In embryo development, three types were distinguishable in sect.Mitellaria: Type A (most of the species), Type B (M. acerina) and Type C (M. pauciflora andM. furusei var.furusei). Type B is an intermediate type between A and C.Mitella integripetala also shows Type A, and the types ofM. nuda andM. diphylla are similar to Type A, except for the shape of suspensor. From outgroup comparison, Type A is suggested to be primitive and Type C to be most derivative in sect.Mitellaria. The affinity of some species in sect.Mitellaria is discussed from the embryogenic data obtained.  相似文献

Anthurium sect. Urospadix includes approximately 70 species differently distributed in Eastern Brazil, Western South America, and Central America. The present work studied the gynoecia of species of section Urospadix to describe their anatomical features. In all the species studied, the apical portion of the gynoecium differentiates into a stigma covered with short trichomes and an adjacent region formed by isodiametric cells. The stylar canal comprises short, unicellular secretory trichomes extending up to the ovarian aperture. Carpels are apically symplicate and basally synascidiate with a septum that does not reach the apical portion of the locule. The apical portion of the septum differentiates into long, secretory trichomes while the subapical one differentiates into the placenta. Locules are filled with mucilage. Since the epidermis of the region adjacent to the stigma, the length of the stylar portion, and the number of cell layers of the ovarian septum vary among the species studied, they may be useful for further taxonomic and systematic purposes. The present work is the first detailed report of trichome location and distribution on the gynoecia of Anthurium.  相似文献

Morphological and anatomical features (including wood anatomy and pollen morphology) of the small neotropical genusPagameopsis (Rubiaceae-Rubioideae) are discussed and illustrated. The fused ovaries, fenestrate corolla tube, basally attached anther filaments, and absence of raphides are especially noteworthy.Pagameopsis is definitely not a member of the Psychotrieae because of significant differences in wood anatomy and gynoecial and fruit structure. A close affinity with Gaertnereae seems doubtful for similar reasons. The taxonomic affinities ofPagameopsis remain obscure. The genus shows similarities with several taxa of the Rubioideae, such as Coccocypseleae, Morindeae, Hedyotideae, andMetabolos. The absence of raphides, on the other hand, makes a position in the Rubioideae doubtful.  相似文献

TOBE, H. & PENG, C.-I, 1990. The embryology and taxonomic relationships of Bretschneidera (Bretschneideraceae). We present the first report on the embryology of Bretschneidera , the only genus of Bretschneideraceae (which are one of 15 glucosinolate-producing families), to clarify its relationships. Embryologically Bretschneidera is characterized by the following features: ovule campylotropous, bitegmic and crassinucellate; outer integument thick, multiplicative and vascularized; embryo sac formation of the Allium type; seed exalbuminous; seed coat 'exotestal' with a palisade of columellar, thick-walled exotestal cells; mesotesta thick with the inner half aerenchymatous. These features suggest that Bretschneidera is distinct from any of the taxonomically related families but resembles both Hippocastanaceae and Sapindaceae (Sapindales) more closely than Moringaceae or Capparaceae (Capparales) which have been considered alternative allies, supporting most of the modern taxonomic treatments that place Bretschneidera as a separate family in Sapindales.  相似文献

A detailed morphological and anatomical study of the tropical African genus Virectaria is presented. The observations are used to characterize the genus, to propose a key to all eight species, and to unravel the relationships between the species using cladistics. A taxonomic survey of the genus is also given. Verdcourt's infraspecific taxa based on calyx morphology in V major are adopted, but it was found that morphological distinction is correlated with ecological, habit and distributional differences. Hence, it is better to recognize Verdcourt's varieties spathulata and major as subspecies of V. major. The problematic systematic position of the genus is discussed in detail. New evidence is given for the exclusion of the genus from the Hedyotideae and Ophiorrhizeae (subfamily Rubioideae). The recently proposed position in the Sabiceeae (subfamily Ixoroideae) is not convincing either, since none of the genera included in the Sabiceeae matches Virectaria with respect to pollen, fruit, flower and growth habit. Exclusion from the Rubioideae and a position near the Sabiceeae is supported by lack of raphides, seed anatomy, placentation, stipule morphology and molecular evidence. Molecular data from a larger number of taxa are needed to confirm the position of the genus.  相似文献

The micromorphology and distribution of secreting and non-secreting trichomes in different parts of plants of the species belonging to Stachys, S. germanica group, of the Italian Flora, were studied. A peculiar capitate hair with multicellular head was found in all the species examined, with the exception of S. germanica ssp. germanica. This type of trichome is typically 4-celled in S. tymphaea. The distribution of trichomes on the calyces is particularly interesting and some peculiar features better characterize S. germanica ssp. germanica, S. germanica ssp. dasyanthes, S. cretica ssp. salviifolia, S. alpina and S. heraclea.  相似文献

The floral and vegetative anatomy of the small Australian genus Aphanopetalum were studied. Wood is described for the first time and is characterized by predominantly solitary pores, scalariform vessel element perforation plates with low bar numbers, imperforate tracheary elements with distinctly bordered pits, sparse axial parenchyma, and a combination of homocellular and heterocellular rayS. Starch occurs in both axial and ray parenchyma of the wood. Stems possess unilacunar, one-trace nodes and the uncommon feature of an endodermis with well-defined Casparian stripS. Leaves have anomocytic stomata, a bifacial mesophyll and semicraspedodromous venation or a combination of semicraspedodromous and brochidodromous venation. The tetramerous flowers are apetalous or have minute petals. The compound, half-inferior gynoecium consists of essentially totally united carpels. The pattern of floral vascularization resembles different Saxifragaceae sensu lalo in that the compound sepal-plane and petal-plane traces give rise to staman bundles as well as sepal, petal, and carpel wall venation in their respective planes. The ventral ovarian bundles are fused into a single ventral complex that subdivides at the top of the ovary to form ventral bundles and to supply the one ovule in each locule. Vegetative and floral features provide compelling evidence to suggest that Aphanopetalum has its nearest relatives among the Saxifragaceae sensu lato rather than Cunoniaceae. The genus is probably best treated as forming its own subfamily (or family) among the saxifragaean alliance.  相似文献

Ontogeny in Cotula australis, Leptinella dioica and L.pyrethrifolia confirms the presence of layers derived from the endosperm, testa and pericarp surrounding the embryo in mature cypselae in Asteraceae. The structure of mature cypselae of 24 species, representing all 12 genera that have been assigned to the 'Cotuleae', is reported. Several characters that appear to be relatively constant within genera or groups of genera are identified as providing information on affinities above the generic level. The data support the conclusion that the 'Cotuleae' is an unnatural assemblage: Cotula, Leptinella, Nananthea and Soliva appear to form one close-knit group, and Dimorphocoma, Elachanthus and Isoetopsis another, while the remaining genera are highly diverse. The first group appear to be good members of the Anthemideae. Evidence is provided to support the placement of the second group in the Astereae near Minuria. Cypsela characters support the placement of Plagiocheilus near Solenogyne.  相似文献

Roots, stems, rhizomes and leaves of Rhaponticum carthamoides (Willd.) Iljin (a Siberian adaptogenic plant, originating from the Altai and Saian Mountains) of different ages were investigated by means of light and electron microscopy. Schizogenous secretory reservoirs occurred in every organ, and were located within the secondary xylem (adventitious roots and rhizome of young plants), at the interface of endodermis/cortical parenchyma (roots and hypocotyl), along phloem and primary xylem (older rhizome), around the vascular bundles (inflorescence stem, petiole and leaf midrib veins) and along phloem (cotyledonary and leaf veins). At the interface of endodermis/inner parenchyma, secretion accumulated in the intercellular spaces prior to the formation of proper epithelial cells. The secretion as observed by transmission electron microscopy comprised three components: soluble (i.e. absent from sections; probably phenolic), insoluble and strongly osmiophilic (probably phenolic) and insoluble, moderately osmiophilic (probably lipidic). Numerous osmiophilic oil droplets, similar to the lipidic secretion inside the reservoirs, local proliferation of rough endoplasmic reticulum and numerous multivesicular bodies characterized epithelial cells in all organs. Leucoplasts (in subterranean organs) with osmiophilic inclusions and peroxisomes with crystalloid inclusions were specific for parenchyma cells. Peltate glandular hairs were formed on leaf blades.  © 2004 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2004, 144 , 207–233.  相似文献

In the absence of knowledge about its anatomy, the systematic position of the genus Chalepotaxis, which inhabits a large part of South East Asia, has been historically dubious. The genitalia, sole of the foot and the caudal region of the type species, Chalepotaxis infantilis (Gredler, V. 1881. Zur Conchylien-Fauna von China. III. Stück. Jahrbücher der Deutschen Malakozoologischen Gesellschaft 8, 110–128), are described, which place this genus into the Helicarionidae family. DNA markers (cytochrome oxidase subunit I [COI] and 28S rRNA genes) corroborate this assignment and unequivocally remove the species from the Camaenidae (=Bradybaenidae) and Ariophantidae, where it had previously been placed. Radular morphology of the type species is also re-described and illustrated.  相似文献

The genus Hemiboea is a curious genus of the tribe Didymocarpeae (Cyrtandroideae), characterized by its peculiar pistil with one fertile carpel and its follicle-like capsule. This genus has not yet been thoroughly studied since its establishment by C. B. Clarke in 1888. In the present paper, the taxonomic history is briefly reviewed; the external morphology, leaf histology, pollen morphology and geographical distribution are discussed; a key to the 21 species recognized by the author is provided; and the economic uses reported in various publications are summarized. I. Morphology (1) Sclereids The foliar sclereids, occurring in this genus and defined by their forms, fall into two types. (A) Vermiform selereids This type of sclereids is noted in 15 species and may be classified into two groups according to their positions in leaf tissues. Those of the first group are interspersed in the ground tissue around the vascular bundles of leaves and noted in 12 species, i.e.H. longisepala, H. cavaleriei, H. bicornuta, H. fangii, H. omeiensis, H. gracilis, H. glandulosa, H. mollifolia, H. pingbianensis, H. parviflora, H. strigosa and H. gamosepala, and those of the second group are dispersed in the mesophyll, occurring in H. subcapitata, H. henryi and H. latisepala. (B) Astrosclereids The sclereids of this type are discovered for the first time in Hemiboea, dispersed in the mesophyll of a single species, i.e.H. lungzhouensis. No foliar sclereids are found in the remaining 5 species, i.e.H. integra, H. flaccida, H. longgangensis, H. subacaulis and H. follicularis. The differences in forms and positions of the foliar sclereids and their absence or presence are of great help in understanding the relationship between the infrageneric taxa. (2) Pollen grains The pollen grains of 19 species were examined with LM and SEM. They are 3-colporate, subglobose or prolate, 20-38.8×22-28μm. The exine is 1.3-2μm thick and the sculpture is foveolate (e.g.H. cavaleriei) to reticulate (e.g.H. omeiensis). In Sect. Subcapitatae the pollen grains are subglobose or prolate, while those of Sect. Hemiboea are prolate. No pollen grains are observed in anthers of 13 speciemens of H. subacaulis var. subacaulis and var. jiangxiensis. (3) Seed-coat Under SEM the seed-coat exhibits considerable diversity in the genus, furnishing useful characters for explaining the relationship between the two sections. 2. Geographical distribution The genus Hemiboea ranges from the eastern border of the Xizang Plateau and Yunnan Plateau eastwards to Ryu Kyu Islands, and from the southern slope of the Qinling Range southwards to northern Vietnam. The karst region of S. E. Yunnan and W. Guangxi is the centre of maximum variation of the genus and is probably its origin centre, where the most primitive taxon exists, and where more species (13 species, i.e. 61.9 per cent of the sum total) and more endemic species (8 species) are found than elsewhere. 3. Classification The genus consists of 21 species and 6 varieties which are classified into 2 sections. The Clarke's classification is accepted, but emended here as follows: Sect. 1. Subcapitatae Clarke Sepals free or posterior ones connate. Muri of the seed-coat laevigate or rugose; bottom of meshes flat, smooth or with few verrucae. Pollen grains subglobose or prolate. Sect. 2. Hemiboea Sepals connate. Muri of the seed-coat tuberculate or aliform-tuberculate; bottom of meshes flat or concave, with dense verrucae. Pollen grains prolate. Based on the analysis of external and internal morphological characters, the main evolutionary trends in the genus are discussed and enumerated, and a hypothesis indicating the relationships between the two sections is given. Anatomical characters of three endemic taxa from the Balkan lakes Ohrid and Prespa and one species from Lake Baikal were studied and compared with those of the widely distributed species of Pisidium . A close affinity of Pisidium edlaueri Kuiper 1960 from Ohrid and Pisidium maasseni Kuiper 1987 from Prespa to the Holarctic Pisidium nitidum Jenyns 1832 was confirmed; Pisidium raddei Dybowski 1902 from Baikal is anatomically identical to the Boreo-alpine Pisidium conventus Clessin 1877. Similarity in anatomical characters between the Ohridan subspecies Pisidium subtruncatum recalvum Kuiper 1960 and the nominal subspecies was also shown. These findings are compared with the situation in other ancient lakes. The similarity in some shell characters between the nonrelated taxa inhabiting these lakes is interpreted as being the result of convergent evolution.
