The components of the flagellar apparatuses of the male and female gametes of Derbesia tenuissima (De Not.) Crouan are compared with those in other swarmers of green algae. Both the male and female gametes were found to have a cruciate microtubular root system, a non-striated capping plate which connects basal bodies, two electron dense terminal caps which partially cover the proximal end of the basal bodies, and two small system II fibrous roots. Similarities exist between these components and those suggested to be typical of ulvalean swarmers. Based upon these similarities, it is proposed that the Caulerpales be classified in the Ulvaphyceae rather than in the Charophyceae or Chlorophyceae. 相似文献

The protoplast of maturing axial tracheids in the secondary xylem of shortleaf pine (Pinus echinata Mill.) was studied by transmission and scanning electron microscopy. The mature protoplast is differentiated into two interconnected components: (1) the commonly observed peripheral layer lining the secondary cell wall, and (2) an elaborate reticulum of cytoplasmic filaments and placoids within the central vacuole. The reticulum provides an extensive surface area of vacuolar membranes for rapid exchange of nutrients and metabolites with the vacuolar sap, which is envisaged to function as a vital medium during the period of secondary cell wall synthesis. The breakdown of the protoplast which terminates tracheid maturation is associated with poorly defined alterations of the vacuolar membranes. This is indicated by increased formation of cytoplasmic spherules and membraneous vesicles which may be portions of separated vacuolar membrane during early stages of degradation. Autolysis is supposed to occur when the cytoplasm is exposed to the vacuolar sap after rupture and separation of the vacuolar membranes. The Gomori acid phosphatase technique as combined with electron microscopy produced no evidence of autolysosomal segresomes in strands of intravacuolar reticulum of the cytoplasm. 相似文献

Gametogenesis in male and female gametophytes was studied by light microscopy and EM in the dioecious multinucleate green alga Derbesia tenuissima (Moris & De Notaris) P. Crouan & H. Crouan, where male and female gametes differ in size. Gametogenesis was divided into five stages: 32 h (stage 1), 24 h (stage 2), 16 h (stage 3), 8 h (stage 4), and 0.5 h (stage 5) before gamete release. At stage 1, the first sign of gametogenesis observed was the aggregation of gametophyte protoplasm to form putative gametangia. At stage 2, gametangia were separated from the vegetative protoplasm of gametophytes. Morphological changes of nuclei and organelles occurred at this early stage of male gametogenesis, and organelle DNA degenerated. At stage 3, male organelle DNA had completely degenerated, whereas in female gametangia, organelle DNA continued to exist in both chloroplasts and mitochondria. Gametogenesis was almost completed at stage 4 and fully at stage 5. Small male gametes had a DNA‐containing nucleus and a large mitochondrion and one or several degenerated chloroplasts. The mitochondria and plastids were devoid of DNA. The large female gametes had a nucleus and multiple organelles, all of which contained their own DNA. Thus, degeneration of chloroplast DNA along with morphological changes of organelles occurred at male gametogenesis in anisogamous green algae (Bryopsis and D. tenuissima), in contrast with previous studies in isogamous green algae (Chlamydomonas, Acetabularia caliculus, and Dictyosphaeria cavernosa) in which degeneration of chloroplast DNA occurred after zygote formation. 相似文献

Traquairia is one of the several unusual fungal structures occurring in Pennsylvanian coal balls. Specimens were initially described from European sediments and are now known from the Pennsylvanian of North America. Although Traquairia was originally believed to be a protozoan closely related to the radiolarians, its structure and organization suggest affinities with members of the fungal group, Ascomycota. Specimens are irregularly shaped and up to 1.0 mm in diameter. Each cleistothecium bears prominent radiating spines that are continuous with a peripheral mat of extensively branched, delicate hyphal filaments. A complex wall encloses a central cavity which may contain a number of asci with ascospores. Among extant fungi, Traquairia is most similar in form to members of the Eurotiales and Erysiphales. 相似文献

Gymnodimium breve Davis, an unarmored marine dinoflagellate has a cell covering (theca) composed of four membranes. The inner two membranes represent a vesicular layer and in tangential section, the theca appears composed of polygonal areas. Unusual threat ridges are located in the cingular region between the epi- and hypocone. This osmotically sensitive species is extremely vesiculate with dispersed areas of cytoplasm containing typical eukaryotic organelles as well as other organelles found only in dinoflagellates. The non-vesiculated cytoplasm is continuous in serial sections. The chloroplasts can contain either quasi-radial or parallel lamellae typically consisting of three thylakoids each. The pyrenoid is multiple-stalked and lacks a starch cap. The dinophycean pusule is simple and similar to those found in several unarmored marine species. The nucleus is typically dinophycean but the chromosomes appear to lack nonfibrillar material. 相似文献

Growth of Chroomonas sp. increased with light intensity (100, 1800, and 2700 μW/cm2) with a fivefold increase from the lowest to the highest intensity. Chlorophyll and phycocyanin content per cell were greater in cells grown at low light intensity, but the ratio of chlorophyll a and c did not vary appreciably. Cells grown at low light intensity had 30% more phycocyanin than cells grown at high intensities of light. The chloroplast of cells with the higher phycocyanin content had average intrathyla-koidal widths of 300 Å, whereas those cells with the lower phycocyanin content had average intrathylakoidal widths of 200 Å. This result is compatible with the hypothesis that phycocyanin is located in the intrathylakoidal space in the cryptophyte algae. Of the various energy sources tested, only glycerol was able to support limited growth tinder nonphotosynthetic conditions. Under no condition was the chloroplast reduced to an elioplast or proplastid state. Starch accumulation was greatest in cells grown in continuous while light in glycerol. Eye-spots were commonest in cells grown in darkness and interrupted every 24 hr by a few seconds of white light. It was concluded that this organism is an obligate phototroph. 相似文献

The nucellus of Machaeranthera pattersonii (A. Gray) Greene (Aster pattersonii A. Gray) contains only one megaspore mother cell, and the female gametophyte develops from the chalazal megaspore of a row of four, thus conforming to the Polygonum type of development. These observations are contrary to the older work of Palm. Three nuclear divisions produce the typical eight nuclei with the egg apparatus, primary endosperm cell with two polar nuclei, and two antipodal cells, the micropylar one containing two nuclei. Usually no more antipodal cells are formed, although there is further nuclear division, apparently followed by nuclear fusion. The antipodal cells remain about the same size without forming an antipodal haustorium. Cell division accompanies the first division of the primary endosperm nucleus. The early stages of the embryo resemble those of other Compositae. Machaeranthera tanacetifolia (HBK) Nees also shows the Polygonum type of development of the female gametophyte. It is suggested that Palm may have been working on some species of Erigeron that had been wrongly identified, which would account for the difference in observations. 相似文献

A Comparative Study Was Made Of The Fine Structure of Cladonia Cristatella and its algal Symbiont Trebouxia Erici in their lichenized and cultured ( nonlichenized) states. Pyrenoglobuli were produced by the alga in the symbiotic and free conditions. Starch was formed during hydrated conditions. Pyrenoglobbuli migrated to the outer parts of the pyrenoid only during dry periods. Dictyosomes and eyespots were observed for the first time in Trebouxia. The pyrenoid divided by fragmentation. Ellipsoidal bodies were common in the hyphae of the lichenized fungus and absent in cultured hyphae, except for 1 colony which had been induced to form pycnidia. The ellipsoidal bodies were associated closely with the internal membrane system of the mycobiont. Haustoria seemed to penetrate the algal cells by enzymatic digestion. A survey of pollen from 153 species of Cuphea has revealed a remarkable array of morphological forms. The survey involved light and electron microscope investigations of C. crassiflora, jorullensis, and koehneana to determine details of exine morphology, and a more general study of pollen from an additional 150 species. Comparison of pollen types within a single morphological category and within taxonomic groups (i.e., sections or subsections) indicates considerable variation at subgeneric levels. The genus is distinctly eurypalynous, and the extent to which pollen varies among the sections, subsections, species and varieties is probably exceeded by few genera of comparable size. The pollen is also variable within each taxon, but size studies of single-anther lactic acid preparations demonstrate the genus is not polymorphic, as in Lythrum, where pollen polymorphism is associated with heterostyly. The latter phenomenon is as yet unknown in Cuphea. These results reveal that pollen morphology constitutes an important and useful character for taxonomic studies of Cuphea. 相似文献

This study suggests that the genus Rhodella be restricted to that set of features currently observed only in Rhodella maculata Evans and Rhodella violacea (Korn-mann) Wehrmeyer, that a new genus Dixoniella be established to accommodate the unicellular red alga, Rhodella grisea (Geitler) Fresnel, Billard, Hindák et Pekár-ková, and that Rhodella cyanea Billard et Fresnel be further studied for probable reclassification. These conclusions are based on ultrastructural comparisons of Dixoniella grisea with published information on the genus Rhodella. The presence of thylakoids in the pyrenoid, a peripheral encircling thylakoid in the chloroplast, a dictyosome/nuclear envelope association, and the lack of a specialized pyrenoid/nucleus association in D. grisea separate this alga from the genus Rhodella. Cell division in D. grisea is not demonstrably different from that in Rhodella, although the unusually well-defined material of the presumptive microtubule organizing center (MTOC) made it possible to follow the development and behavior of the MTOC to a greater degree than in previously studied red algal cells. The surprising amount of conformity in cell division characters between D. grisea and the genus Rhodella prompted a comparison of cell division characteristics in all red algal unicells studied to date. All unicells show a remarkable degree of similarity except for differences in interzonal spindle length, dissimilarities in size of the nucleus-associated organelle (NAO), and the unusual NAO of Porphyridium purpureum (Bory) Drew et Ross. 相似文献

用光镜和扫描电镜对浙东地区八种常见淡水枝角类卵鞍形态和表面结构进行了观察和比较。卵鞍形态多为三角形或豆荚形,表面大都具特定的纹饰,内储冬卵1-2枚。卵鞍的形态、表面纹饰、冬卵的数量的排列方向具有种的特异性。枝角类的分类地位相距越远,卵鞍形态和表面结构相差越大,相近种和亚种间的卵鞍在光镜下难以区别,亚显微结构却有一定的差异。卵鞍的形态和结构作为枝角类的分类依据是有意义的。 相似文献

Emphasis is placed on three aspects of meiosis in the moss Amblystegium riparium (Hedw.) BSG: 1***) nature of the sporogenous layer; 2) prophasic microtubules and polarity; and 3) cleavage pattern. Spore tetrads develop while still encased by archesporial cell walls. The cellular nature of the sporogenous layer differs from the more usual occurrence of free sporocytes released into a common spore sac. Two important events mark the establishment of sporocyte polarity during meiotic prophase: 1) migration of the four plastids to the distal tetrad poles (telophase II poles); and 2) ingrowth of the sporocyte wall in eventual cleavage planes between the tetrad poles. An extensive, plastid-based microtubule system is associated with organelle migration during the establishment of sporocyte polarity in meiotic prophase. Disruption of the nuclear envelope in prometaphase I occurs at sites opposite the four plastids where microtubules extend from plastid envelope to nuclear envelope. Formation of a cell plate following the first meiotic division results in a dyad, whereas in many mosses meiosis is completed in the undivided sporocyte and is followed by simultaneous cleavage into a spore tetrad. Spore cleavage is accomplished by vesicular coalescence resulting in septa that coincide with the prophasic wall ingrowths. 相似文献

玉米(ZeamaysL.)叶片细脉原生韧皮部筛分子开始分化时,首先出现长的粗面内质网潴泡和增厚的细胞壁,随后在质体中出现其特征性的拟晶体内含物。随着分化的进行,长的粗面内质网潴泡转化为较短的形态,最后聚集成一些小的堆叠并失去其核糖体。细胞核发生退化,但常保持到成熟期的后期,此时的细胞核由双层核膜或某些部位仅由内核膜包被,内含电子致密的不定形染色质团块。随后双层核膜破裂而变得不连续。在细胞核开始退化时,核周腔局部膨大。有的膨大核周腔的外核膜破裂,并伴随邻近的部分细胞质解体。在核退化过程中,除内质网外,质体和线粒体的结构也发生变化,而核糖体、细胞质基质、液泡和高尔基体则解体消失。成熟原生韧皮部筛分子的原生质组分分布在细胞边缘,由质膜、线粒体、小的滑面内质网堆叠及具拟晶体的P型质体组成。随着邻近后生韧皮部筛分子分化的进行,成熟原生韧皮部筛分子的原生质组分逐渐退化,最后消失。 相似文献

The unilocular pistil in Eustachys contains a single ovule with lateral placentation. In E. petraea and E. glauca, the mature ovule is bitegmic, tenuinucellate, and amphitropous with the endostomic micropyle oriented toward the base of the locule. A single hypodermal archesporial cell enlarges to form the megasporocyte. The chalazal dyad member is larger than the micropylar one, and meiosis II is nonsynchronized. Two-thirds of the tetrads are linear and one-third T-shaped. The chalazal megaspore is functional. Initially ovoid, the two-nucleate female gametophyte becomes curved as it enlarges. The four-nucleate stage becomes wider at its extremities and constricted in the center. Synchronous mitotic divisions establish the eight-nucleate stage with four nuclei at each pole separated by a large central vacuole. In E. petraea, the maturation sequence begins with antipodal differentiation, followed by differentiation of the egg apparatus, migration of the polar nuclei to the center, and division of the antipodals to produce twelve cells. The sequence in E. glauca begins with migration of the polar nuclei followed by differentiation of the antipodals, egg apparatus, and antipodal replication to six cells. The polar nuclei fuse to form a secondary nucleus appressed to the egg cell in E. glauca and separated from it by a vacuole in E. petraea. T-tests for length measurements for various stages of development indicate that the functional megaspore and two-nucleate female gametophyte are significantly larger in E. glauca than in E. petraea. There is no significant difference in gametophyte length at the four-nucleate stage, and at the eight-nucleate stage, length in E. petraea surpasses that in E. glauca. This gap widens significantly at the mature stage. Nuclear volumes are significantly greater in E. glauca than in E. petraea in the functional megaspore and two-nucleate stage, but the volumes are similar at the four-nucleate stage. Consideration of the differences in structural complexity between the sporophyte and gametophyte generations leads to the conclusion that the female gametophytes of these species are more distinctive than are the sporophytes. 相似文献

The epidermal salt glands of the grasses Cynodon and Distichlis consist of a small outer cap cell and a large, flask-shaped basal cell. The wall of the basal cell is contiguous with those of the adjacent epidermal cells and underlying mesophyll cells. The basal cell is connected symplastically with all adjoining cells via plasmodesmata. The outer, protruding portion of the glands is covered by a cuticle continuous with that of the adjoining epidermal cells. However, the lateral cell walls of the glands are not incrusted by this cuticle. The cap cell wall has a loose, mottled appearance quite different from the compact striated appearance of the basal cell wall. The cap cell is characterized by dense cytoplasm containing many organelles and a varying number of small vacuoles. The basal cell cytoplasm is distinguished by the presence of an intricate system of paired membranes that are closely associated with mitochondria and microtubules. These membranes are infoldings of the plasmalemma that originate adjacent to the wall separating the cap and basal cells. The space enclosed by the paired membranes, therefore, is an extracellular channel that is open only in the direction of secretory flow. The consistent orientation of this system of paired membranes suggests that it represents a structural specialization which is directly and functionally involved in the secretory process. The close association of mitochondria and microtubules with the paired membranes implies that these structures are also functionally related to the secretory process. Finally, the results of this study indicate that these glands are ultrastructurally similar to those of Spartina and that the glands of these three grasses are structurally distinct from those of dicotyledonous plants. 相似文献

Mitosis, cytokinesis, and cellular organization during interphase are described. Interphase cells possess a single microbody-like organdie which occurs between, and is appressed to, the chloroplast and nucleus. The microbody-like organelle divides during mitosis and. the division of the chloroplast. Anaphase is unusual in that chromosome-to-spindle pole distance remains constant even though the 2 groups of chromosomes become widely separated. When anaphase is half completed, a vacuole forms in the interzonal region and appears to be involved in further separation of the chromosomes. Vacuolar development is also involved with events of early interphase. The cytology of K. flaccidum is compared to those of Ulothrix fimbriata and Stigeoclonium helveticum. The comparison, does not support the present classification of the 3 species, and indicates the value of comparative fine structural studies in the classification of ulotrichalean algae. 相似文献
