In two trials, lambs were trickle infected with 400 or 1000 infective larvae of Haemonchus contortus (HcL(3)), twice weekly for 4 weeks from the day of birth. Following anthelminthic treatment at 6 weeks (Trial 1) or 7 weeks of age (Trial 2), lambs were challenged 1 week later with a trickle infection totalling 5000 (Trial 1) or 10000 HcL(3) (Trial 2). In both cases, significant protection (P<0.05) ranging from 42 to 79% was achieved against egg and worm counts. Serum antibody responses as well as abomasal lymph node cell proliferation and production of interferon-gamma or interleukin (IL)-5 did not differ significantly between immunised and control lambs. The results are consistent with earlier findings that neonatal lambs can generate protective immunity against Trichostrongylus colubriformis, but the underlying mechanism(s) remain to be determined.  相似文献

Allergens were identified from the gastrointestinal nematode of sheep, Trichostrongylus colubriformis, by probing Western blots of infective larvae (third stage) somatic antigen with IgE purified from the serum of sheep grazed on worm contaminated pasture. A 31 kDa allergen was frequently recognised by sera from immune sheep, particularly those deriving from a line that has been genetically selected over 23 years for parasite resistance. Using a proteomic approach, the 31 kDa allergen was identified as an aspartyl protease inhibitor homologue. The entire coding sequence of T. colubriformis aspartyl protease inhibitor (Tco-api-1) was obtained and the mature protein expressed in Escherichia coli. Anti-Tco-API-1 antibodies revealed that a commonly observed 21 kDa T. colubriformis allergen species is a truncated form of Tco-API-1. Specific IgE responses to T. colubriformis aspartyl protease inhibitor were significantly correlated with the degree of resistance to nematode infection as measured by faecal egg count in sheep. Surprisingly, IgE responses to Tco-API-1 were not correlated with breech soiling (dag score), which is thought to be caused, in part, by allergic hypersensitivity to worms. Therefore, a specific IgE response to this allergen may be a suitable marker for identifying lambs at an early age that will develop strong immunity to gastrointestinal nematodes.  相似文献

Using data from five independent vaccine trials, which employed a subunit cocktail vaccine containing eight recombinant proteins to protect sheep against Teladorsagia circumcincta, a strategy was developed to simplify antigen complexity of the vaccine. A meta-analysis of data from these five trials demonstrated statistically significant reductions in cumulative faecal egg count and worm burden in vaccinated sheep when compared with those which had received adjuvant only (P = 0.009 and P < 0.0001, respectively). Relationships between antigen-specific antibody levels, antibody avidity and parasitological parameters of efficacy were analysed for each of the eight proteins in these trials. Of these, the strongest correlations between percentage reduction in cumulative faecal egg count and avidity were obtained for the vaccine antigen T. circumcincta apyrase-1 (Tci-APY-1) in relation to either total antigen-specific IgG or IgG1 in sera (P = 0.019 and P = 0.030, respectively). In addition, IgG and IgA within the serum and abomasal mucus of control (parasite challenged) lambs strongly recognised Tci-APY-1 and T. circumcincta metalloproteinase-1 (Tci-MEP-1) but only weakly bound the other six antigens, indicating Tci-APY-1 and Tci-MEP-1 are most effectively recognised by the parasite-induced antibody response. On the basis of these findings, a two-protein vaccine comprising Tci-APY-1 and Tci-MEP-1 was tested in a direct comparison with the original eight-component vaccine. A further group was immunised with Tci-MEP-1 in combination with a mutated form of Tci-APY-1 (mTci-APY-1), which had no enzymatic activity. Across the trial, the mean faecal egg count levels of the eight-antigen recipients were lower than those of the adjuvant only control group (P = 0.013) and the mean FEC of the mTci-APY-1 and Tci-MEP-1 recipients was lower, although not statistically significantly, than that of the adjuvant-only control group (P = 0.093). Mean cumulative faecal egg count levels were reduced by 43% in lambs immunised with mTci-APY-1 plus Tci-MEP-1 compared with the controls (P = 0.079).  相似文献

The effect of sainfoin (Onobrychis viciifolia) hay consumption on the pathophysiology and local cellular responses of growing lambs during infection with Trichostrongylus colubriformis was investigated. Thirty-two lambs, 16 weeks of age, were allocated to 1 of 4 treatment groups (n=8) that were offered either grass (G) or sainfoin (S) hay while concurrently either infected (+), or not (-) with 12,000 L3 T. colubriformis larvae per week for 6 weeks. Liveweight gains were affected by diet (P=0.002) and reduced by infection (P<0.05). Faecal egg count was reduced in S+compared to G+ from days 35 to 42 (P=0.001); however, total egg output, worm burdens at day 42 and worm fecundity were similar between diets (P>0.05).Feeding sainfoin appeared to enhance immune cell development with tissue eosinophils, mast cells and pan T cells present in greater concentrations in S+ than in G+ animals. However, further studies are required to determine if the enhanced immune cell development is a consequence of a greater nutrient supply or a direct influence of sainfoin metabolites on local inflammatory responses to the gastrointestinal nematode T. colubriformis.  相似文献

Wagland B. M., Steel J. W., Windon R. G. and Dineen J. K. 1984. The response of lambs to vaccination and challenge with Trichostrongylus colubriformis: effect of plane of nutrition on, and the inter-relationship between, immunological responsiveness and resistance. International Journal for Parasitology14: 39–44. Merino lambs weaned at 8 weeks of age were fed either ground and pelleted (high plane, HP) or chopped (low plane, LP) lucerne hay ad libitum to achieve an approximate 2-fold difference in liveweight gain. When aged 17 and 21 weeks, 15 of the 20 lambs in each diet group were vaccinated with 80,000 irradiated T. colubriformis larvae. At 25 weeks, vaccinated and unvaccinated lambs were treated with anthelmintic and one week later challenged with 30,000 normal larvae. Four weeks after challenge the animals were killed for worm counts. After vaccination HP lambs had higher titres of antibodies to the parasite and after challenge had lower worm egg outputs, and lower worm burdens than LP lambs. Immunological responsiveness (serum titre of complement-fixing antibodies against worm antigen) and manifestations of resistance (eggs produced per female worm per day and percent protection calculated from worm counts) were significantly correlated within dietary groups. Percent protection and egg production per female worm were highly correlated (r = ?0.81) in individual animals pooled over dietary groups, suggesting that both manifestations of resistance respond to essentially the same immunological mechanism. Failure to obtain significant correlation between weight gain pre-vaccination and immunological and resistance parameters indicated that animal production and resistance to infection are not genetically linked. Negative correlation of weight gain during the vaccination period with serum antibody titre at challenge suggests that the developing immune response competes with weight gain for limited physiological resources of the animal.  相似文献

Dineen J. K., Gregg P. and Lascelles A. K. 1978. The response of lambs to vaccination at weaning with irradiated Trichostrongylus colubriformis larvae: segregation into ‘responders’ and ‘non-responders’. International Journal for Parasitology8: 59–63. Groups of colostrum fed and colostrum deprived lambs were vaccinated with irradiated Trichostrongylus colubriformis larvae at weaning (3 months) and challenged with normal infective larvae. As there was no significant difference between the worm counts of these groups after challenge, it was concluded that the failure of lambs, generally, to respond to vaccination as vigorously as mature sheep, was not due to ‘feed-back inhibition’ of the immune response by the action of maternal antibody. However the results showed that the lambs segregated into ‘responders’ and ‘non-responders’. The mean worm count of responders was 1560 whereas for non-responders this was 24,340. A responder was defined as an animal whose worm count was less than the lower limit of the 99 % confidence interval of unvaccinated controls. These results suggest that genetically-determined factors play an important role in the responsiveness of lambs to vaccination.Whereas counts of globule leucocytes in duodenal tissues were negatively correlated with worm counts (i.e. positively correlated with resistance), counts of both eosinophils and neutrophils were positively correlated with worm counts. These findings suggest that either globule leucocytes are involved in the resistance mechanism, or they are by-products of cellular events involved in resistance. On the other hand it is unlikely that either eosinophils or neutrophils are involved in the mechanism of resistance.  相似文献

Cross-protective immunity between the nematode parasites, Haemonchus contortus and Trichostrongylus colubriformis, was examined in sheep vaccinated with irradiated larvae of either species. Secondary immunological responsiveness stimulated in this manner protected only against challenge infection with the species used for vaccination. Significant cross-protective immunity was not observed. Titres of serum antibody to an extract of adult but not infective larval T. colubriformis reflected the specificity for protective immunity. Immediate hypersensitivity skin reactions to nematode extracts did not reflect the antigen-specificity for protective immunity.  相似文献

One hundred and twenty lambs were grazed continuously from weaning until 9 months of age on 12 plots contaminated with larvae of three nematode species (Haemonchus contortus, Trichostrongylus colubriformis and Ostertagia circumcincta). The lambs were sired by either a genetically resistant ram or susceptible rams (determined by the response of previous progeny to artificial H. contortus infection). Half the resistant and half the susceptible lambs were given strategic anthelmintic treatment and the remainder remained untreated. Faecal egg counts and blood packed cell volume were measured frequently in all animals. One and 5 months after weaning, two lambs from each plot were slaughtered, and worm burdens and larval establishment rates of the three species of nematode were estimated. At the second slaughter, leukotriene levels and larval migration inhibitory (LMI) activity were measured in mucus collected from the small intestine. The dominant species in all faecal samples and the gastrointestinal tract was T. colubriformis. Lambs of the resistant genotype had lower faecal worm egg counts, lower worm burdens and higher levels of resistance to larval establishment. There were no differences in larval migration inhibition (LMI) activity, but resistant lambs had higher levels of the leukotriene LTC4/D4/E4. Further, the resistant genotype, identified on responsiveness to artificial infections with H. contortus, was more resistant to infections of three important species acquired naturally from contaminated pastures. All these genetic differences were maintained while the lambs were subject to strategic anthelmintic treatment.  相似文献

Resistance to an acute gastrointestinal nematode (GIN) infection is dependent on the ability of the host to recognise the parasite and mount a protective Th2 response. It is hypothesised that lambs which are genetically susceptible to GIN will differentially up-regulate Th1-type genes and therefore remain susceptible to chronic parasitism compared with genetically resistant lambs which will differentially up-regulate Th2-type genes and clear the parasite infection. Two selection flocks, in which lines of Merino sheep produced lambs genetically resistant or susceptible to GIN, were acutely challenged once or thrice with either Haemonchus contortus or Trichostrongylus colubriformis. Faecal-egg counts (FECs), and plasma and tissue anti-parasite (H. contortus or T. colubriformis) antibody isotype responses showed that resistant animals challenged three times with T. colubriformis established a protective Th2 response (negligible FEC, IgG1 and IgE) whereas susceptible animals required multiple challenges to establish a significant IgG1 response despite FECs remaining high. Trichostrongylus colubriformis elicited a more pronounced host response than H. contortus. RNA extracted from tissues at the site of each parasite infection and associated lymph nodes were interrogated by microarray and quantitative PCR analyses to correlate host gene expression to FECs and antibody responses. The IFN-γ inducible gene cxcl10 was up-regulated in the susceptible line of the Trichostrongylus selection flock sheep after a tertiary challenge with the parasites H. contortus and T. colubriformis. However, a uniform pattern of genes was not up-regulated in resistant animals from both selection flocks during both parasite infections, suggesting that the mode of host resistance to these parasites is different, although some similarities in host susceptibility were apparent.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to determine the level of resistance of Haemonchus contortus and Trichostrongylus colubriformis in sheep to levamisole, albendazole, ivermectin, moxidectin, closantel and trichlorfon. The parasites were isolated from sheep naturally infected by gastrointestinal nematodes and were then kept in monospecifically-infected lambs for production of infective larvae (L3) of both species. Forty-two lambs, at three months of age, were simultaneously artificially infected with 4000 L3 of H. contortus and 4000 L3 of T. colubriformis. The animals were allocated into seven groups with six animals each that received one of the following treatments: Group 1--control, no treatment; Group 2--moxidectin (0.2mg/kg body weight (BW)); Group 3--closantel (10mg/kg BW); Group 4--trichlorfon (100mg/kg BW); Group 5--levamisole phosphate (4.7 mg/kg BW); Group 6--albendazole (5.0mg/kg BW); and Group 7--ivermectin (0.2mg/kg BW). Nematode fecal egg counts (FEC) were carried out on the day of treatment and again at 3, 7, 10 and 14 days post-treatment. On the same occasions, composite fecal cultures were prepared for each group for production of L3, which were identified into genus. The animals were sacrificed for worm counts at 14 days after treatment. The efficacy of each treatment was calculated from the arithmetic mean of the FEC or worm burden of the treated group, compared with the values of the control group. Only trichlorfon and moxidectin treatments resulted in a significant reduction of H. contortus recorded at necropsy (73% and 45% respectively). Moxidectin reduced T. colubriformis worm burdens by 82% and albendazole by 19%. All other anthelmintics resulted in no significant reduction in the numbers of worms found at necropsy. In conclusion, the isolates of H. contortus and T. colubriformis showed multiple resistance to all groups of anthelmintics tested. This is the first report, based on the controlled efficacy test, to show resistance of T. colubriformis to macrocyclic lactones in Brazil.  相似文献

The effects of immunization of sheep with Trichostrongylus colubriformis larvae on worm burdens acquired during grazing. International Journal for Parasitology 19: 177-181. Romney sheep, reared helminth-free in pens to 5 months of age, were immunized against Trichostrongylus colubriformis by giving two doses of 200,000 T. colubriformis infective larvae at 15 day intervals to assess protection from natural challenge during grazing. Five immunized sheep and five unimmunized sheep were grazed on infested pasture for 4 weeks, and were then returned to the pens for 4 weeks before slaughter. Worm burdens, gastrointestinal histology and mucus antiparasite activity were examined at slaughter. Faecal egg counts and haematological examinations were carried out at regular intervals throughout the trial. Significant protection (P less than 0.05) was afforded immunized sheep against adult T. colubriformis (87%), T. axei (67%), Nematodirus spathiger (91%) and Ostertagia spp. (42%). Greater numbers of immature Nematodirus spp. and Ostertagia spp. were present in immunized sheep Overall, a significant (P less than 0.05) 42% reduction in total nematode burdens was afforded by immunization of the sheep with T. colubriformis larvae. Immunized sheep had significantly (P less than 0.05) more globule leukocytes, mast cells and eosinophils in gastrointestinal tissue and significantly (P less than 0.05) higher levels of mucous antiparasite activity than unimmunized sheep. Haematological observations showed some sheep had transient eosinophilia during immunization or grazing. Both immunized and unimmunized sheep showed depressed (P less than 0.05) total leukocyte counts during grazing which returned to pre-grazing levels within 1 week of return of the sheep to the pens. Overall, haematological parameters reflected parasite challenge and were unrelated to worm burdens acquired.  相似文献

The aim of this research was to determine whether metabolisable protein supply during the early period of infection with Trichostrongylus colubriformis influenced resilience and the later stages in the development and magnitude of host resistance in previously nematode-na?ve lambs. Eighty TexelxGreyface lambs were fed pelleted feeds calculated to provide grossly different amounts of metabolisable protein. Sixty of the lambs received a trickle infection of T. colubriformis and 20 lambs were kept as uninfected controls. There were four initial groups, namely infected or uninfected and fed either a moderate or a high protein feed. After 5weeks of infection, a further four groups were established by changing the feed of half of the animals fed the moderate protein feed to the high protein feed and of half of the animals fed high protein to the moderate protein feed. Live weight gain and feed conversion ratio were greatest for lambs fed the high protein feed and were reduced by infection. Faecal egg counts, worm burdens and per capita fecundity of adult female nematodes were unaffected by changes to metabolisable protein supply. Decreasing metabolisable protein supply following 5weeks of infection reduced live weight gain without any effect on resistance to T. colubriformis. Haematological variables, indicative of improved resistance, were also largely unaffected by metabolisable protein supply. It is concluded that the requirements of immune function probably had priority over those of growth and that the metabolisable protein supply provided by the moderate protein feed was sufficient to account for the requirements for the expression of immunity. It is probable that the potential for metabolisable protein supply to enhance resistance to infection from T. colubriformis is dependent on the levels and magnitude (i.e. in relation to maintenance requirements) of metabolisable protein supply being compared and the demand of other competing physiological functions.  相似文献

A genome linkage scan was carried out using a resource flock of 1029 sheep in six half-sib families. The families were offspring of sires derived by crossing divergent lines of sheep selected for response to challenge with the intestinal parasitic nematode Trichostrongylus colubriformis. All animals in the resource flock were phenotypically assessed for worm resistance soon after weaning using a vaccination/challenge regime. After correcting for fixed effects using a least squares linear model the faecal egg count data obtained following the first challenge and the faecal egg count data obtained after the second challenge were designated Trait 1 and Trait 2, respectively. A total of 472 lambs drawn from the phenotypic extremes of the Trait 2 faecal egg count distribution were genotyped with a panel of 133 microsatellite markers covering all 26 sheep autosomes. Detection of quantitative trait loci (QTL) for each of the faecal egg count traits was determined using interval analysis with the Animap program with recombination rates between markers derived from an existing marker map. No chromosomal regions attained genome-wide significance for QTL influencing either of the traits. However, one region attained chromosome-wide significance and five other regions attained point-wise significance for the presence of QTL affecting parasite resistance.  相似文献

Groups of 10 Mongolian gerbils, Meriones unguiculatus, were vaccinated with 1,500 gamma-irradiated Trichostrongylus colubriformis infective larvae (L3) or with non-irradiated larvae. 25 days later five gerbils from each group were necropsied and the remaining gerbils challenged with 1,500 non-irradiated T. colubriformis infective larvae. Systemic, local intestinal and coproantibody levels were compared in each group of gerbils 25 days after vaccination and 26 days after challenge. Strong local intestinal and faecal antibody responses were detected. Coproantibodies reflected antibody levels in the intestinal contents and in mucosal extracts. The results gave further support to the view that coproantibody measurements provide a sensitive index of immunity at mucosal surfaces to intestinal parasites.  相似文献

A piecewise logarithmic model fitted to worm counts of ewe lambs vaccinated and challenged in pens with a range of doses of irradiated and normal Trichostrongylus colubriformis larvae respectively, indicated that the threshold for response to both vaccine (V0 = 4400) and challenge dose is exceeded by 5000 larvae. Whereas response was vaccine dose dependent, it was independent of challenge dose.Ram lambs vaccinated at low dose levels were as resistant against challenge as ewe lambs, but by contrast, failed to show increased protection after vaccination with high doses of irradiated larvae.Serum titre of antiworm complement-fixing antibodies at the time of challenge also indicated that ram lambs were less responsive immunologically than ewe lambs following vaccination at the higher dose levels.A field study showed that response to vaccination was only apparent after transfer of the sheep to heavily contaminated pastures, suggesting that previous exposure of the vaccinated animals to the low dose of infective larvae available on a lightly contaminated pasture constituted a challenge which was below the threshold.  相似文献

Dineen J. K. and Windon R. G. 1980. The effect of acquired resistance on adult worms of Trichostrongylus colubriformis in Lambs. International Journal for Parasitology10: 249–252. Wether lambs were classified as either responders or non-responders to vaccination and challenge with Trichostrongylus colubriformis. Worms recovered from these animals and unvaccinated controls were measured, eggs in utero counted and sex ratios (male/female) were determined for individual burdens. The results showed that all three parameters were reduced in responder lambs compared with non-responder and unvaccinated lambs and were positively correlated with worm counts in responder lambs whereas they tended to be negatively correlated with worm counts in non-responders and unvaccinated animals. These various effects of resistance on parasite development in responder lambs may be due to the action of endogenous inflammatory agents generated immunologically. On the other hand negative correlation between developmental parameters and worm burdens in non-responders and unvaccinated lambs suggests that development of parasites in heavy infections may be restricted by competition for a limiting physiological, spatial or nutritional resource of the host.  相似文献

The ability of lactating Romney ewes to resist establishment of ingested infective-stage larvae (L3) of Ostertagia circumcincta and Trichostrongylus colubriformis was measured in the field. Three groups of seven single-lamb-bearing ewes were selected on the basis of uniformity of lambing date from a large flock held on pasture. Either 2, 4 or 6 weeks after parturition, groups of ewes were dosed with 24000 L3 of known oxfendazole-resistant parasite strains; 12000 of each species. Ten to 14 days later the ewes, along with their lambs, were transferred from the field to indoor pens. Twenty-five days after the challenge dose the ewes were drenched with oxfendazole to remove any field-derived infection and 3 days later slaughtered for worm counts. Mean establishment of the resistant parasites was low at all times, with the highest rate recorded being 6.1% for O. circumcincta 2 weeks after parturition. Establishment of O. circumcincta 4 and 6 weeks after parturition, and of T. colubriformis at all times, never exceeded 2%. By comparison, mean establishment in lambs held indoors and parasite free for 13 weeks prior to infection, was 24.9% and 47.1% for O. circumcincta and T. colubriformis, respectively. These results indicate that the lactating ewes were exhibiting a substantial ability to prevent establishment of ingested larvae. The results of this and other similar studies suggest that the dynamics of parasitism in lactating Coopworth and Romney ewes in New Zealand is substantially different to that in Merino ewes in Australia, and that these differences influence optimal strategies for the management of anthelmintic resistance in the two countries.  相似文献

This study investigated the hypothesis that dietary deficiency of readily available carbohydrate (raCHO) modifies the immune response of lambs to the gastrointestinal nematode Trichostrongylus colubriformis. Sixty helminthologically naive Merino lambs were fed throughout the experiment diets containing three levels of raCHO that provided adequate, moderate or low intakes according to recommended standards and were given primary or both primary and secondary infections of T. colubriformis. A further 20 uninfected lambs received the low diet for 9 weeks, after which they were returned to the standard diet. Immune status was assessed by the measurement of plasma and jejunal antibody concentrations and blood and jejunal cell numbers and function. Diets low in carbohydrate resulted in a failure of the lambs to gain weight and decreases in plasma glucose concentration, blood lymphocytes expressing CD8 or Tcrgammadelta, monocytes, eosinophils, platelets and red blood cells, jejunal and plasma antibody concentrations, lymphocyte proliferation to worm antigen and numbers of jejunal CD8(+) and Tcrdeltagamma(+) lymphocytes, eosinophils and CD1b(+) dendritic cells. Thus, a low dietary concentration of raCHOs impaired the constitutive availability of lymphocytes and antigen-presenting cells, and the cellular and humoral immunological responses. A hypothesis is suggested for the mechanism and for the possible wider implications.  相似文献

Antibody levels were compared in guinea pigs with genetically determined differences in their ability to generate protective immunity against the small-intestine nematode parasite Trichostrongylus colubriformis. Animals with the most effective immune response (high responders) developed significantly higher anti-T. colubriformis IgG1 antibody titres than low-responder animals. However, there were no significant differences between their IgG1 antibody responses to a systemically administered protein antigen (ovalbumin). High-titre anti-T. colubriformis serum from high-responder animals did not transfer significant passive protective immunity to low-responder recipients. It is suggested that anti-T. colubriformis IgG1 antibodies mediate the release of mast-cell and basophil products at the site of infection and thus contribute to the more effective immunity expressed by high-responder animals.  相似文献

It is well established that dietary protein supply can influence the peri-parturient breakdown of immunity to nematode parasites but there is no information on the importance of exposure to nematode larvae during pregnancy for this response. We investigated this by exposing housed pregnant sheep, scanned as carrying two lambs, to a vaccinating infection with a trickle mixed infection of Teladorsagia circumcincta and Trichostrongylus colubriformis larvae (L3) or to no infection during weeks − 9 to − 4 relative to parturition. At the beginning of week − 3 all sheep were treated with anthelmintic to remove any vaccinating worm burden and from week − 2 to week +6 received a trickle challenge infection with the same nematodes. Within each vaccinating treatment there were two nutritional treatments (no. = 20 per subgroup) designed to provide 1.5 or 1.0 and 1.3 or 0.8 of metabolisable protein (MP) requirement during pregnancy and lactation, respectively. Five ewes were necropsied during weeks +1 and +3 to measure worm burdens and mucosal inflammatory cells and the remainder maintained until week +6. Serum levels of total, IgA and IgE antibodies against L3 antigen of each nematode were measured.Scanning errors and lamb losses resulted in some ewes carrying and/or rearing only one lamb. Numbers of lambs reared was therefore introduced as a treatment effect. Vaccinating infection delayed the peri-parturient rise in faecal egg count (FEC) by an average of 2 weeks but its effect on FEC during the first 6 weeks of lactation was smaller and less persistent than that of dietary MP supply and single- v. twin-suckling.Populations of both nematodes were lower in association with high MP supply, vaccination and single suckling. These changes were associated with increases in numbers of mucosal mast cells (MMC) as a result of both increased MP supply and vaccination. Evidence for a more rapid return of host ability to limit populations of the abdominal nematode T. circumcincta than of the intestinal nematode T. colubriformis was associated with fewer eosinophils and more globule leucocytes (GL) in abomasal than in intestinal tissue.None of the serum antibody isotypes was affected by dietary protein supply. Total and IgA antibodies were maintained by a current larval (vaccinating) intake. IgA titres, however, increased progressively during pregnancy, especially in twin-bearing ewes. IgE titres appeared to be sensitive primarily to the reproductive cycle itself, peaking around parturition. This work supports the conclusion that availability of MP supply influences the recruitment and activity of cells of the immune armoury of the gastro-intestinal tract to nematode parasites. The precise outcome may differ with site and/or nematode species.  相似文献
