The concentration of airborne spores of Cladosporium and Alternaria has been investigated at five monitoring stations situated in cities from the foot of the Tatra Mountains to central Poland along a south-north transect (Zakopane, Kraków, Ostrowiec witokrzyski, Warszawa, Pozna) i.e. from a height of 900 m to 80 m above sea level. The aerobiological monitoring of fungal spores was performed by means of five Burkard volumetric spore traps.Cladosporium spores were dominant at all the stations. The highest Cladosporium and Alternaria spore concentrations were observed at all the sites in July and August, except at Warszawa in both years and at Pozna in 1995 where the maximum of Cladosporium spores occurred in June and July, and at Ostrowiec witokrzyski in 1995 where the maximum was found in July, August and September.Fungal spore concentrations in Zakopane and Kraków were significantly lower than those in Ostrowiec witokrzyski, Warszawa and Pozna and periods of abundant Cladosporium spore occurrence were different in these two groups of monitoring stations.  相似文献

Magnetic orientation and magnetoreception in birds and other animals   总被引:15,自引:0,他引:15  
Animals use the geomagnetic field in many ways: the magnetic vector provides a compass; magnetic intensity and/or inclination play a role as a component of the navigational map, and magnetic conditions of certain regions act as sign posts or triggers, eliciting specific responses. A magnetic compass is widespread among animals, magnetic navigation is indicated e.g. in birds, marine turtles and spiny lobsters and the use of magnetic sign posts has been described for birds and marine turtles. For magnetoreception, two hypotheses are currently discussed, one proposing a chemical compass based on a radical pair mechanism, the other postulating processes involving magnetite particles. The available evidence suggests that birds use both mechanisms, with the radical pair mechanism in the right eye providing directional information and a magnetite-based mechanism in the upper beak providing information on position as component of the map. Behavioral data from other animals indicate a light-dependent compass probably based on a radical pair mechanism in amphibians and a possibly magnetite-based mechanism in mammals. Histological and electrophysiological data suggest a magnetite-based mechanism in the nasal cavities of salmonid fish. Little is known about the parts of the brain where the respective information is processed.  相似文献

Summary The relationship between the arrangement of cell events occurring in cambium in a definite configuration and the grain pattern of wood was investigated. Taking into consideration the growth activity of fusiform cell ends, a model of a migrating morphogenetic wave determining an event configuration was made. Waves of length =1 m for the periods T=2 years and T=3 years and waves of lengths =l m and =0.04 m for the period T=10 years were considered. On the model, events from successive annual rings, conventionally comprising 10 cell layers each, were summed. In this way, event maps were obtained. For wave =4 mm, the domain pattern on the modelled map was compatible with the grain pattern. The domain pattern for the wave =1 m was impossible to recreate because the wave migrated too fast. In this case, the pattern of event configuration, incompatible with the grain pattern, formed microareas, which were not domains.  相似文献

Doubled haploid (DH) progeny from a cross between the scald susceptible barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) cultivar Ingrid and the resistant accession CI 11549 (Nigrinudum) was evaluated for resistance in the pathogen Rhynchosporium secalis (Oudem) J.J. Davis. Two linked and incompletely dominant loci confer resistance CI 11549 against isolate 4004. One is an allele at the complex Rrs1 locus on chromosome 3H close to the centromere; the other is located 22 cM distally on the long arm. The latter locus is designated Rrs4. In BC3-lines into Ingrid from CI 2222 (another Nigrinudum) resistance seems governed by one locus close to the telomeric region of chromosome 7H, probably allelic to Rrs2. In neither case did we find any trace of the recessive gene rh8 reported to be present in Nigrinudum. Various resistance donors of Ethiopian origin designated as Nigrinudum, Jet or Abyssinian were identical to a great extent with respect to markers, but differed in resistance to different isolates of scald or in barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV) resistance. The implications for their use as differentials in scald tests and screening of germplasm collections are discussed.  相似文献

Summary Thirteen spontaneously occurring chlorophyll deficient phenotypes have been described and their genetic basis was established. Ten of these — white, white tipped green, patchy white, white virescent, white striping 1, white striping 2, white striping 4, fine striping, chlorina and yellow virescent showed monogenic recessive inheritance and the remaining three — yellow striping, yellow green and light green seedling phenotypes showed digenic recessive inheritance. The genes for (i) white tipped green (wr) and yellow virescent (yv) and (ii) patchy white (pw) and white striping 1 (wst 1) showed independent assortment. Further, the genes for white (w), white tipped green (wr) and yellow virescent (yv) were inherited independently of the gene for hairy leaf margin (Hm).In the mutants — white tipped green, patchy white, white striping 1, white striping 2, fine striping, chlorina, yellow virescent, yellow striping, yellow green and light green phenotypes total quantity of chlorophyll was significantly less than that in the corresponding controls, while in white virescent there was no reduction in the mature stage. For nine of the mutants the quantity of chlorophyll was also estimated in F1's (mutant x control green). In F1's of six of the mutants — white tip, patchy white, chlorina, yellow virescent, fine striping and yellow striping the quantity of chlorophyll was almost equal to the wild type. In the F1's of three of the mutants — white striping 1, white striping 2 and light green an intermediate value between the mutant and wild types was observed. In yellow virescent retarded synthesis of chlorophyll, particularly chlorophyll a was observed in the juvenile stage. Reduced quantity of chlorophyll was associated with defective chloroplasts. In the mutants — white tipped green, white virescent, fine striping, chlorina, yellow striping, yellow green and light green defective plastids were also observed. In patchy white secondary destruction of chlorophylls and the presence of defective plastids were found to be associated with reduced chlorophyll quantity at maturity.Paper chromatographic studies of leaf flavonoids revealed some variation between the inbreds, but there were three common spots, 7, 8 and 9, except for PDP in which the spot 8 was absent. Chlorophyll deficient mutants differed from their respective controls in the absence of one or more of the spots present in the controls and in the presence of new spots in some of the mutants.Most of the chlorophyll mutants showed higher survival rate in the Kharif season than in Rabi season which was attributed to the higher mean day temperature and longer day light period in the Kharif season than in Rabi season.  相似文献

Summary Gene dosage effects for catalase (CAT) were studied in two unrelated patients with an interstitial deletion involving 11p13 to determine precisely the sites of the genes for CAT and the Wilms tumor—aniridia, genitourinary abnormalities, and mental retardation triad (WAGR) in the 11p13 band. Case 1 had the aniridia-Wilms tumor association, and case 2 showed the AGR triad. The karyotypes identified by high resolution banding techniques were 46,XY,del(11)(pterp13::p11.11qter) for case 1 and 46,XY,t(2;17) (q23;q25), del(11) (pterp13::p11.2 qter) for case 2. In both cases, the distal breakpoints of the deleted chromosomes 11 appeared to have occurred on the middle portion of 11p13 (11p1305p1306). The level of erythrocyte CAT activities in case 1 was reduced (47% of normal), while that in case 2 was normal. The results suggested not only that both the CAT and WAGR should be mapped to chromosome region 11p1305p1306, but also that in this region the CAT locus is more distally placed than the WAGR locus. Because of the proximity of the two gene loci, assays of erythrocyte CAT may be useful to identify a submicroscopic deletion in some patients with sporadic aniridia and to predict a risk of developing Wilms tumor.  相似文献

Summary The angular dependence of1JC,H in model compounds related to -linked oligosaccharides has been established by FPT INDO quantum chemical calculations. Values calculated for models of (1 1)-, (1 2)-, (1 3)- and (1 4)-linked disaccharides were compared, and the effect of the orientation of HO-2 elucidated. The angular dependence of1JC,H on the torsional angles H and H and the solvent dielectric constant (s) was characterized in the form:1JC,H = A cos2+B cos + C sin2 + D since + E + Fe. The1JC,H values, measured by DEPT methods for C-1-H-1 and C-X-H-X in cellobiose, cyclic trisaccharide and hexopyranoses were used to adjust the calculated angular dependences. Based on the occurrence of the conformers for agarobiose, neoagarobiose, mannobiose and methyl -xylobioside, the thermodynamically averaged <1JC,H > values were calculated. The results obtained (<1JC-1,H-1 > 162.4, <1JC-4, H-4 > 147.6 Hz for methyl -xylobioside; <1JC-1,H-1 > 162.4 and <1JC-4,H-4] > 147.6 Hz for mannobiose; <1JC-1,H-1 > 162.8 Hz for neo agarobiose and <1JC-1,H-1 > 163.2 Hz for agarobiose) agree well with the experimental values of 162.7, 147.5, 160.4, 147.2, 160.9 and 165.7 Hz, respectively.  相似文献

Fibrosis is considered as a central factor in the loss of renal function in chronic kidney diseases. The origin of fibroblasts and myofibroblasts that accumulate in the interstitium of the diseased kidney is still a matter of debate. It has been shown that accumulation of myofibroblasts in inflamed and fibrotic kidneys is associated with upregulation of fibroblast-specific protein 1 (FSP1, S100A4), not only in the renal interstitium but also in the injured renal epithelia. The tubular expression of FSP1 has been taken as evidence of myofibroblast formation by epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT). The identity of FSP1/S100A4 cells has not been defined in detail. We originally intended to use FSP1/S100A4 as a marker of putative EMT in a model of distal tubular injury. However, since the immunoreactivity of FSP1 did not seem to fit with the distribution and shape of fibroblasts or myofibroblasts, we undertook the characterization of FSP1/S100A4-expressing cells in the interstitium of rodent kidneys. We performed immunolabeling for FSP1/S100A4 on thin cryostat sections of perfusion-fixed rat and mouse kidneys with peritubular inflammation, induced by thiazides and glomerulonephritis, respectively, in combination with ecto-5-nucleotidase (5NT), recognizing local cortical peritubular fibroblasts, with CD45, MHC class II, CD3, CD4 and Thy 1, recognizing mononuclear cells, with alpha smooth muscle actin (SMA), as marker for myofibroblasts, and vimentin for intracellular intermediate filaments in cells of mesenchymal origin. In the healthy interstitium of rodents the rare FSP1/S100A4+ cells consistently co-expressed CD45 or lymphocyte surface molecules. Around the injured distal tubules of rats treated for 3–4 days with thiazides, FSP1+/S100A4+, 5NT+, SMA+, CD45+ and MHC class II+ cells accumulated. FSP1+/S100A4+ cells consistently co-expressed CD45. In the inflamed regions, SMA was co-expressed by 5NT+ cells. In glomerulonephritic mice, FSP1+/S100A4+ cells co-expressed Thy 1, CD4 or CD3. Thus, in the inflamed interstitium around distal tubules of rats and of glomerulonephritic mice, the majority of FSP1+ cells express markers of mononuclear cells. Consequently, the usefulness of FSP1/S100A4 as a tool for detection of (myo)fibroblasts in inflamed kidneys and of EMT in vivo is put into question. Summary Recombinant cDNA plasmids possessing the coding sequences for the -type gliadins were isolated from a cDNA library prepared from wheat seed poly (A+) RNA. One of these plasmids, pGliB48, specifically hybridizes to poly (A+) RNA molecules 1 400–1 500 bases in length that direct the synthesis of polypeptides at 38 Kd and 46 Kd, the latter size characteristic of the -type gliadins. The cDNA sequence of pGliB48 was determined and encompasses the 3 untranslated region as well as 245 amino acids from the C-terminus of the -type gliadin polypeptide. The 5-end of the DNA coding sequence consists of a tandem repeat unit composed of eight amino acids. Localized regions of homology are observed for the /-type and -type gliadin cDNA sequences.  相似文献

Tumor promoters, proinflammatory cytokines, endotoxins, and protein synthesis inhibitors can modulate cell cycle kinetics of various cell types, stimulate production of reactive oxygen species, and induce keratinocytes to produce interleukin-8 (IL-8), a potent chemotactant for polymorphonuclear neutrophils and T lymphocytes. The aim of this study was to determine whether perturbations of cytogenetic responses correlated with the induction of IL-8 expression. Cultures of primary human keratinocytes were grown in serum-free medium with 5 mol/L bromodeoxyuridine to label DNA and exposed either to phorbol-13-myristate-12-acetate (PMA) (0.0001–100 ng/ml), cycloheximice (CHX) (0.01–50 g), lipopolysaccharide (0.1–100 g/ml), tumor necrosis factor- (TNF) (3.13–50 ng/ml), or interleukin-1 (IL-1) (1–182 pg/ml). Metaphase chromosome preparations were stained by a fluorescence-plus-Giemsa technique to differentiate sister chromatids. For IL-8 production, keratinocytes were grown to 70% confluency and then exposed to chemicals for 24 h. Immunoreactive IL-8 was quantitated from the supernatants by ELISA. With the exception of benzo(a)pyrene used as a positive control, none of the agents induced sister chromatid exchanges. However, PMA and TNF induced IL-8 production that coincided with significant cell cycle inhibition. IL-1 had no effect on cytogenetic endpoints, yet stimulated a 6.3-fold increase in IL-8. CHX inhibited cell cycle progression and mitotic activity at concentrations that were 200 times lower than required for IL-8 induction; however, puromycin (0.31–10 g/ml), another protein synthesis inhibitor, did not induce IL-8. At all concentrations tested, TNF reduced the mitotic index by 45%, slowed cell cycle progression by 3.5 h, and induced a flat, albeit large, IL-8 response at concentrations 12.5 ng/ml. The combining region ofArtocarpus integrifolia lectin has been studied by using the ligand-induced changes in the fluorescence of the lectin. The saccharide binding properties of the lectin show that C-l, C-2, C-4, and C-6 hydroxyl groups of D-galactose are important loci for sugar binding. The -anorner of galactose binds more strongly than its -counterpart. Inversion in the configuration at C-4 as in glucose results in a loss of binding to the lectin. The C-6 hydroxyl group is also presumably involved in binding as D-fucose does not bind to the lectin.The lectin binds to the Thomsen-Friedenreich antigen (Gal(13)GalNAc) more strongly than the other disaccharides studied, viz. Gal/ (14) Gal and Gal (13) GlcNAc, which are topographically similar to T-antigen. This observation suggests that the combining region ofArtocarpus lectin is complementary to that of T-antigen.Solvent accessibility of the protein fluorophores have been probed by the quenching of protein fluorescence by Iodide ion in the absence and presence of sugar. We report here studies which characterize further the interaction ofN,N-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide with cytochromec oxidase leading to inhibition of H+ translocation by the enzyme. Further evidence is presented to show that the inhibition results from a real interaction of DCCD with the enzyme and cannot be accounted for by uncoupling and, contrary to recent criticisms, this interaction occurs specifically with subunit III of the enzyme even at relatively high inhibitor-to-enzyme stoichiometries. The conformational properties of the oligosaccharide chain of GM1 ganglioside containingN-glycolyl-neuraminic acid, -Gal-(1-3)--GalNAc-(1-4)-[-Neu5Gc-(2-3)]--Gal-(1-4)--Glc-(1-1)-Cer, were studied through NMR nuclear Overhauser effect investigations on the monomeric ganglioside in dimethylsulfoxide, and on mixed micelles of ganglioside and dodecylphosphocholine in water. Several interresidual contacts for the trisaccharide core--GalNAc-(1-4)-[-Neu5Gc-(2-3)]--Gal-were found to fix the relative orientitation of the three saccharides, while the glycosidic linkage of the terminal -Gal-was found to be quite mobile as the -Gal-(1-3)--GalNAc-disaccharide exists in different conformations. Summary Six cases are reported of variant Ph translocations found among 240 patients with Ph-positive CML. Five cases had a three-chromosome rearrangement involving, in addition to chromosomes 9 and 22, chromosomes 7, 4, 2(two), and 3 respectively, and one case had a two-chromosome rearrangement 22/5. A review of the literature revealed that three- and two-chromosome variant Ph translocations are observed with equal frequency. It is postulated that all variant translocations are indeed three-chromosome rearrangements, that the specific event for the formation of the Ph chromosome is the reciprocal translocation 9/22, and that the transposition of regions 9q34 and 22 (q11qter), plays a major role in the development of CML.  相似文献

Structures of acidic N-glycans released from porcine zona pellucida glycoproteins by hydrazinolysis were studied. The results indicated that the acidic glycans are of mono- to tetraantennary complex-type with and without N-acetyllactosamine repeating units. Sulfated residues are not only located at the C-6 position of GlcNAc included in the N-acetyllactosamine repeating units, but also at the C-6 position of GlcNAc in the non-repeated antennae and at the C-3 position of reducing terminal GlcNAc residue. Analysis of the oligosaccharide fragments released by endo--galactosidase digestion and by hydrazine/nitrous acid treatment also revealed that various sulfated and non-sulfated forms of fucosylated structures such as Fuc12Gal14(±SO–36)GlcNAc (type 2H), Gal14(Fuc13)(±SO–36)GlcNAc(Lex) and Fuc13 or 4(±SO–36)GlcNAc, are expressed in the repeated outer chain moieties.  相似文献

Summary Leghorn, Cornish and White Rock hens were subjected to starvation. Free amino acids were determined in blood samples taken after 48, 72 and 96 h of starvation. A progressive decrease in concentration of the majority of amino acids was found. Changes in amino acid concentrations during starvation were dependent on the breed of hen.  相似文献

We have analysed 998 Arabidopsis intron sequences in the EMBL database. All Arabidopsis introns to adhere to the :GU...AG: rule with the exception of 1% of introns with :GC at their 5 ends. Virtually all of the introns contained a putative branchpoint sequence (YUNAN) 18 to 60 nt upstream of the 3 splice site. Although a polypyrimidine tract was much less apparent than in vertebrate introns, the most common nucleotide in the region upstream of the 3 splice site was uridine. Consensus sequences for 5 and 3 splice sites and branchpoint sequences for Arabidopsis introns are presented.  相似文献

Sialic acids and the majorO-glycosidic oligosaccharide of glycophorin MK from monkey (Japanese monkey,Macaca fuscata) erythrocyte membranes were characterized.N-Glycolylneuraminic acid (neu5Gc) was found as the major sialic acid, which was confirmed by gas-liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry as the trimethylsilyl methyl ester. ThreeO-glycosidic oligosaccharide units were obtained from a tryptic glycopeptide that contained all of the carbohydrate units in glycophorin MK by mild alkaline borohydride/borotritide treatment. Carbohydrate analyses of the oligosaccharides revealed that they were composed of Neu5Gc, galactose andN-acetylgalactosaminitol in the molar ratios of 111 (trisaccharide), 211 (tetrasaccharide) and 111 (pentasaccharide). The content of oligosaccharide units was estimated to be 1125 for penta-, tetra- and trisaccharide, respectively, based on the yields, the molecular weight, and the number of oligosaccharide attachment sites in the amino-acid sequence. The tetrasaccharide was the major oligosaccharide and its structure was proposed to be Neu5Gc2-3Gal1-3[Neu5Gc2-6]GalNAcol.  相似文献

Summary The relationships of Agropyron intermedium chromosomes in two wheat-Agropyron addition series were determined. Chromosome pairing behaviour revealed that the alien chromosome in lines TAF-2 and L7 of Vilmorin-A. intermedium set are homologous to the alien chromosomes in lines P and C of the Caribo-A. intermedium set respectively. Localization of alcohol dehydrogenase isozyme genes in Vilmorin-Agropyron addition line L4 and in Caribo-Agropyron line O indicated relationships with wheat chromosomes of homoeologous group 4.  相似文献
