The objective of this investigation was to determine the effect of low-dose prenatal X-irradiation on postnatal growth and neurobehavioral development, and whether alterations would manifest at dosages lower than those which produce anatomic malformations from exposure at the most sensitive period of organogenesis. Ninety-eight Wistar strain rats were exposed to 0.1, 0.2, or 0.4 Gy X-radiation of were sham irradiated on the 9th or 17th day of gestation. A conventional teratologic evaluation was completed on half of the animals (572 fetuses). The age of appearance of four physiologic markers and of acquisition of six reflexes was observed in 372 offspring. Exposure during early organogenesis at these levels had no effect on any of these parameters. Prenatal exposure to X-radiation on the 17th day of gestation at dosage levels greater than 0.1 Gy resulted in alterations in the appearance of three postnatal neurophysiologic parameters. Growth retardation throughout the postpartum period also was observed in the offspring. The induction of developmental and reflex alterations had a comparable threshold to the known threshold for anatomic malformations on the 9th day. These results indicate that all of the parameters studied had thresholds either at or above 0.2 Gy acute radiation, and that the postpartum developmental and reflex acquisition measures were not more sensitive indicators of exposure to X-radiation than growth parameters.  相似文献

Thirty-nine pregnant adult Wistar strain rats were randomly assigned to one of three exposure groups: 0, 0.75, or 1.50 Gy X-radiation total exposure. Animals were exposed from the 14th to the 18th days of gestation at 0, 0.15, or 0.30 Gy per day. At term, 15 rats were killed and morphologic analyses were completed. Twenty-four rats were allowed to deliver their offspring. On the first day of postnatal life, litters were reduced to a maximum of eight pups per litter, with equal numbers of male and female offspring wherever possible. A total of 187 pups were observed for the age of acquisition of five reflexes (air righting, surface righting, visual placing, negative geotaxis, auditory startle) and the appearance of four physiologic markers (pinna detachment, eye opening, vaginal opening, testes descent). There was significant dose-related weight reduction in term fetuses and offspring throughout the 86-day postnatal period. Postnatal growth rate (g gained/day) was unaffected. Adult offspring brain and gonadal weight and organ weight:body weight ratios were reduced. Using the PAC50 methodology, dose-related alterations occurred in the acquisition of several reflexes. All physiologic markers exhibited a dose-related delay in appearance. These results indicate that fractionated exposure to X-radiation during the fetal period in the rat results in dose-dependent alterations in postnatal growth and physiologic development. These studies are important for our understanding of the long-range effects of prenatal exposure to ionizing radiation late in gestation.  相似文献

Newborn rats of both sexes were treated from birth with the anti-thyroid goitrogen, n-propylthiouracil (PTU) given in the drinking water of the litter (0.1% w/v). One group received the treatment for 25 days, another for 50 days, and a third group for 120 days. The experimental rats showed growth retardation as well as all other classical signs of developmental arrest or delays induced by postnatal hypothyroidism. In order to assess the ability of the hypothyroid animals to recover spontaneously from the retarded state, at days 25, 50 and 120 postnatal the PTU water was replaced with tap water. In each case, within 5-7 days after PTU withdrawal the animals began to show marked compensatory growth accompanied by many signs of behavioral and physiological recovery. In general, the male rats showed higher compensatory growth rates as compared to the females, enabling them to attain significantly higher body weights. However, when growth recovery was followed for up to 6 months it was found that the male rats were unable to attain complete catch-up growth, regardless of the age at which recovery began, while the females of all age groups were able to achieve this goal. In view of the severity of PTU-induced growth retardation, these results suggest significant plasticity of growth processes in the rat, especially in the female. It is suggested that male and female rats recovering from prolonged PTU-induced growth retardation offer a good model system for the study of biochemical, anatomical and physiological aspects of growth recovery and catch-up growth at both the cellular and organismic levels, particularly in relation to the effects of thyroid, growth hormone, and other growth-promoting factors.  相似文献

The reproductive and developmental toxicity of aminoethylethanolamine was evaluated in a standard screening study (OECD, 1995: Organisation for economic co‐operation and development. Paris, France), in which groups of Wistar rats (10/sex/group) were administered the test substance by gavage at dosage levels of 50, 250, or 1000 mg/kg/day (groups 2–4, respectively). A control group received the vehicle, doubly distilled water. No live pups were delivered in group 4, and there was a higher incidence of stillborn offspring and reduced postnatal survival in group 3. Macroscopic changes in groups 2 and 3 were primarily related to the great vessels and characterized by dilations, aneurysms, and altered course of the aorta, pulmonary trunk, carotids, and the ductus arteriosus. A follow‐up study was conducted to characterize the low dose‐response, using dosage levels of 0, 0.2, 1, 5, or 50 mg/kg/day (groups 1–5, respectively). Given the expected scarcity of the lesions in control offspring, each group consisted of 25 animals of each sex. Macroscopic examination revealed a high incidence (18.5%) of aneurysm‐bearing offspring in group 5 litters, and single offspring (0.3–0.4%) with aneurysms in groups 3 and 4. Microscopic examination revealed dissecting aneurysms in offspring from all aminoethylethanolamine treatment groups, without a clear dose‐response between groups 2 and 4 (0.6%, 1.2%, and 0.3%, respectively), and focal hemorrhages in all groups including the control. In comparison, the background incidence of aneurysms in untreated 4‐day old offspring was 0.2% (Treumann et al., 2011: Toxicol Pathol 39:969–974). Consequently, the findings in groups 2–4 cannot be conclusively attributed to treatment.  相似文献

The discovery of a link between in utero experience and later metabolic and cardiovascular disease is one of the most important advances in epidemiology research of recent years. There is now increasing evidence that alterations in the fetal environment have long-term consequences on metabolic and endocrine pathophysiology in adult life. This process has been termed "fetal programming," and we have shown that undernutrition of the mother during gestation leads to obesity, hypertension, hyperphagia, hyperinsulinemia, and hyperleptinemia in offspring. Using this model of maternal undernutrition throughout pregnancy, we investigated whether prenatal influences may lead to alterations in postnatal locomotor behavior, independent of postnatal nutrition. Virgin Wistar rats were time mated and randomly assigned to receive food either ad libitum (ad libitum group) or at 30% of ad libitum intake (undernourished group). Offspring from UN mothers were significantly smaller at birth than AD offspring. At weaning, offspring were assigned to one of two diets [control or hypercaloric (30% fat)]. At ages of 35 days, 145 days, and 420 days, voluntary locomotor activity was assessed. At all ages studied, offspring from undernourished mothers were significantly less active than offspring born of normal birth weight for all parameters measured, independent of postnatal nutrition. Sedentary behavior in programmed offspring was exacerbated by postnatal hypercaloric nutrition. This work is the first to clearly separate prenatal from postnatal effects and shows that lifestyle choices themselves may have a prenatal origin. We have shown that predispositions to obesity, altered eating behavior, and sedentary activity are linked and occur independently of postnatal hypercaloric nutrition. Moreover, the prenatal influence may be permanent as offspring of undernourished mothers were still significantly less active compared with normal offspring at an advanced adult age, even in the presence of a healthy diet throughout postnatal life.  相似文献

Forty-one pregnant Wistar strain rats were irradiated with 0.6-Gy X rays or were sham irradiated on the 9th or 17th days of gestation to determine if this dosage level would result in alterations in postnatal neurophysiologic development. Half of the mothers were sacrificed at term, and the developmental status of 221 newborns was evaluated. The remaining mothers delivered and raised their litters. The 161 offspring were observed for the age of attainment of the following physiologic parameters: pinna detachment, eye opening, testes opening. Offspring were also tested for the acquisition of the following selected reflexes: surface righting, negative geotaxis, auditory startle, air righting, and visual placing. Term fetal weight was lower than the controls in the group irradiated on the 9th day but was recuperable postnatally. None of the 9 developmental tests performed postnatally were abnormal in the animals irradiated on the 9th day. Thus, at least with regard to these measures, the surviving embryos exposed during the all-or-none period could not be differentiated from the controls. Offspring irradiated on the 17th day exhibited retarded growth which persisted during neonatal life. The three-day-mean neonatal weight was significantly lower in the group irradiated on the 17th day compared to controls. There were no significant maternal body weight or organ/weight differences between the groups. Rats exposed in utero on the 17th day had a significantly delayed acquisition of air righting. These results demonstrate that 0.6-Gy in utero irradiation on the 17th day of gestation can cause subtle alterations in growth and development of the Wistar strain rat during postnatal life.  相似文献

Evaluations of reproductive and developmental toxicology, including teratology, were included as part of a broad screening study in Hanford Miniature swine (HMS) to detect effects of exposure to electric fields. One group (E) was exposed to a uniform, vertical, 60-Hz, 30-kV/m electric field for 20 h/day, 7 days/week; sham-exposed (SE) swine were housed in a separate, environmentally equivalent building. The first generation (F0) gilts were bred after 4 months of study; some were killed for teratologic assays at 100 days of gestation (dg), and the others produced an F1 generation of offspring. The pooled incidence of terata in these litters (teratologic assays and live births) was similar in the E and SE groups. The F0 females, which produced the F1 generation, were bred again after 18 months of exposure and were killed at 100 dg. Malformation incidence in E litters (75%) was significantly greater than in SE litters (29%). No consistent differences in litter size, fetal mass, or mass of fetal organs were detected. The F1 gilts were bred at 18 months of age; defective offspring were found in significantly more of the E litters (71%) than in SE litters (33%). These F1 females were bred again 10 months later and teratologic assays were performed on their second litters at 100 dg. The percentage of litters with malformed fetuses was essentially identical in the E and SE groups (70% and 73%, respectively). There appears to be an association between chronic exposure to a strong electric field and developmental effects in swine, although the change in incidence of malformations between generations and between the first and second breedings makes it impossible to conclude unequivocally that there is a cause-and-effect relation.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Lasofoxifene is a nonsteroidal selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) developed for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis. The purpose of these studies was to evaluate the effects of lasofoxifene on the postnatal development, behavior, and reproductive performance of offspring of female rats given lasofoxifene during organogenesis and lactation. METHODS: Two range-finding studies were conducted to determine the effects of lasofoxifene at doses from 0.01-10 mg/kg on parturition and lactation in pregnant rats and on the early postnatal development of the offspring, and to optimize the dosing regimen. Maternal milk and plasma were sampled for concentrations of lasofoxifene on Lactation Days 4, 7, and 14. In the pre- and postnatal development study, lasofoxifene was administered to pregnant and lactating rats by oral gavage at dose levels of 0.01, 0.03, and 0.1 mg/kg on Gestation Days 6-17 and Lactation Days 1-20. Maternal body weight and food consumption were measured throughout pregnancy, and body weight was measured throughout lactation. Parturition was monitored closely. The F1 offspring were measured for viability, body weight, anogenital distance, the appearance of postnatal developmental indices and reflex behaviors, sensory function, in an age-appropriate functional observational battery, motor activity, auditory startle, passive avoidance, and the Cincinnati Water Maze. The F1 generation was assessed for reproductive function, and the F2 offspring were measured for body weight and viability throughout the lactation period. RESULTS: In the range-finding studies, indications of maternal toxicity included decreased body weight and food consumption, increased length of gestation, prolonged parturition, dystocia, and increased offspring mortality at birth. Concentrations of lasofoxifene in maternal plasma were similar to those in milk, increased with increasing dose, and remained consistent over a 10-day period. In the pre- and postnatal development study, maternal body weights and food consumption were decreased in all treated groups during gestation. Length of gestation was increased, parturition was prolonged, and dystocia was noted in the dams in the 0.1 mg/kg group. There was increased pup mortality in the F1 litters in the 0.1 mg/kg group and all treated groups had decreased offspring body weights beginning at 1 week of age, continuing into the postweaning period and, for the F1 males, into adulthood. Female F1 offspring in the 0.03 and 0.1 mg/kg groups had increased body weights as adults. There were delays in the age of appearance of preputial separation in the males in the 0.1 mg/kg group and vaginal opening in the females in all treated groups. Body temperature was decreased by <0.5 degrees C after weaning for male and female offspring in the 0.1 mg/kg group. The sensory, behavioral, and functional measures, including the tests of learning and memory, were unaffected by treatment. Mating success was lower for the F1 animals in the 0.1 mg/kg group, but there were no effects on the reproductive parameters. Mating, reproduction, and maternal behavior of the F1 animals in the 0.01 and 0.03 mg/kg groups and the survival and body weights of the F2 offspring in all treated groups through Postnatal Day 21 were unaffected by treatment. CONCLUSION: The maternal findings in this study were related to the pharmacologic activity of lasofoxifene. Inhibition of growth of the F1 offspring after perinatal exposure to lasofoxifene was observed, but there were no significant effects on the sensory, behavioral, or functional measures, including learning and memory. There were no effects on the F2 generation. The findings are consistent with those reported for at least one other SERM. The findings of this study do not suggest increased risk for the primary indication of use in postmenopausal women.  相似文献

As a means to improve mouse production, the differences among litter numbers in reproductivity, post-weaned growth and puberty of offspring were examined in 4 strains of mice, SHN/Mei, SLN/Mei, C3H/HeMei and GRS/AMei. Females were mated to be concurrently pregnant and lactating and reproductivity was recorded from the 1st to the 3rd litters. Some offspring of both sexes were weighed at 30, 40 and 50 days of age and vaginal opening was also checked in females. Pre-weaned growth of offspring differed little between litter numbers in all strains except GRS/A. Meanwhile, post-weaned growth of offspring was higher in the 2nd and 3rd litters than in the 1st litter of SHN and SLN, associated with a decreased rate of still-born pups. In C3H/He, post-weaned growth of offspring was higher in the 1st and 2nd litters and rearing rate decreased for the 3rd litter. In GRS/A, the 1st litter showed the greatest pre- and post-weaning growth rate of offspring. All findings indicate that in SHN and SLN strains the later litters are better for offspring production, while in C3H/He and GRS/A strains it is the earlier litters. The results stress the value of having information on reproductive characteristics of mouse strains for efficient offspring production.  相似文献

Background

Early postnatal environments may have long-term and potentially irreversible consequences on hypothalamic neurons involved in energy homeostasis. Litter size is an important life history trait and negatively correlated with milk intake in small mammals, and thus has been regarded as a naturally varying feature of the early developmental environment. Here we investigated the long-term effects of litter size on metabolic phenotype and hypothalamic neuropeptide mRNA expression involved in the regulation of energy homeostasis, using the offspring reared from large (10–12) and small (3–4) litter sizes, of Brandt''s voles (Lasiopodomys brandtii), a rodent species from Inner Mongolia grassland in China.

Methodology/Principal Findings

Hypothalamic leptin signaling and neuropeptides were measured by Real-Time PCR. We showed that offspring reared from small litters were heavier at weaning and also in adulthood than offspring from large litters, accompanied by increased food intake during development. There were no significant differences in serum leptin levels or leptin receptor (OB-Rb) mRNA in the hypothalamus at weaning or in adulthood, however, hypothalamic suppressor of cytokine signaling 3 (SOCS3) mRNA in adulthood increased in small litters compared to that in large litters. As a result, the agouti-related peptide (AgRP) mRNA increased in the offspring from small litters.

Conclusions/Significance

These findings support our hypothesis that natural litter size has a permanent effect on offspring metabolic phenotype and hypothalamic neuropeptide expression, and suggest central leptin resistance and the resultant increase in AgRP expression may be a fundamental mechanism underlying hyperphagia and the increased risk of overweight in pups of small litters. Thus, we conclude that litter size may be an important and central determinant of metabolic fitness in adulthood.  相似文献

Mice offspring irradiated in utero with 2,450-MHz radio-frequency (RF) radiation at 0 or 28 mW/cm2 (whole-body averaged specific absorption rate = 0 or 16.5 W/kg) for 100 minutes daily on days 6 through 17 of gestation were evaluated for maturation and development on days 1, 5, 10, 12, 15, and 17 of age. The tests used to determine differences in developmental age in the two treatment groups were body weight, urine concentrating ability, brain weight, tolerance to ouabain, and bone lengths. Fifteen sham-irradiated and 26 RF-irradiated litters, normalized to eight pups/litter, were used in this study. Mean body weight of the microwave-irradiated offspring were significantly (p = .0003) decreased only on day 1 of age. Brain weight on days 10, 12, and 17 were significantly lower in microwave-irradiated pups (p = .01). There were no significant differences in the two groups in urine concentrating ability on day 5, ouabain tolerance on day 15, or bone length on days 5, 10, 12, and 17. It is concluded that there is a persistent delay in postnatal development of the brain after RF irradiation with 16.5 W/kg during gestation.  相似文献

Trivers and Willard (1973) predicted that stressed adult female mammals may enhance their fitness by skewing offspring sex ratios and maternal investment to favor daughters. The present study investigated whether stressing young hamsters might also influence sex ratio and growth of subsequent offspring. Control females received food ad libitum (A) on Days 1-50 postpartum (AA). Experimental females were food-restricted (R) either on Days 1-25 (RA), Days 26-50 (AR), or Days 1-50 (RR) postpartum. Subjects were mated when 91-95 days old. Litter sizes and survivorship (= % litters within a treatment that contained at least one pup), sex ratio (= % males), and pup weights in the next generation were recorded every fifth day from parturition until Day 25 postpartum. Control litters contained significantly more offspring at birth than did RR litters. Sex ratio was significantly higher at birth for AA litters than for the other treatments. Postpartum sex ratio within each group remained similar to that recorded at birth. RR litters contained significantly fewer pups compared to the other three treatments from Days 5-25. RR female pups weighed significantly more at birth than their counterparts in the other treatments. Weights of males at birth were similar in all treatments. By Day 25, both male and female RR pups weighed significantly less than control, AR, and RA pups. Food restriction early in life may have long-term consequences on sex ratio and pup growth in golden hamsters.  相似文献

We examined effects of a wide range of doses of three man-made estrogenic chemicals during fetal life on neurobehavioral changes during early postnatal life in mice. Pregnant mice were fed a 4-log range of o,p'DDT, methoxychlor (MXC), and the drug diethystilbestrol (DES) from gestation days 11 to 17. Offspring were examined for changes in postnatal growth and the development of neuromuscular reflexes. Fetal exposure to the estrogenic chemicals altered the number of live pups per litter, the sex ratio of the litters, the anogenital distance of male and female offspring at birth (a bioassay for fetal androgen action), and the body weight of offspring at birth and during the first 5 days of postnatal life. In most cases, however, the dose-response relationships were complex (non-monotonic), with effects at the highest dose examined being opposite to effects seen at lower doses. The two markers of neurobehavioral development, righting and cliff avoidance reflexes, were not sensitive indicators of prenatal estrogen exposure. Only maternal exposure to the lowest MXC dose produced an increase in reactivity in righting and cliff avoidance tests in offspring.  相似文献

Diversity in reproductive and social systems characterizes the primate family Callitrichidae. This paper contributes to our appreciation of this diversity by presenting the first detailed comparative analysis of captive breeding in three species of lion tamarins (Leontopithecus chrysomelas, L. chrysopygus, and L. rosalia) housed at the Centro de Primatologia do Rio de Janeiro. The annual pattern of reproduction in all three species of Leontopithecus was markedly seasonal, with births occurring during the spring, summer, and fall months from August through March. While modal number of litters produced per female per year was 1, approximately 20% of breeding females produced two litters per year. The onset of breeding activity in years when two litters are produced was significantly earlier than in years when only one litter was produced. The cumulative number of offspring surviving to 3 months of age did not differ between years with one vs. two breeding attempts. Like other callitrichids, postnatal mortality was highest during the first week of life, and there were pronounced species differences in offspring survival through 1 year, with significantly lower survivorship in L. chrysomelas. Infant survivorship was affected by a number of experiential factors. Survivorship up to 30 days of life was higher in groups in which the breeding female had previous experience with infants as a nonbreeding helper than in groups in which the female lacked previous helping experience. Likewise, survivorship to 30 days of life was higher for infants born to multiparous females than for infants born to primiparous females. When parity and previous helping experience were analyzed concurrently, the lowest survivorship was associated with offspring produced by inexperienced primiparous females. Genus-wide, there was no significant departure from a 50:50 sex ratio at any point during the first year of life, nor was there evidence for differential mortality for male and female infants. However, L. chrysopygus produced significantly more male infants at birth (65:44) and had male-biased litters (approximately 60% males) throughout the first year of life, while L. chrysomelas showed a nonsignificant tendency toward female-biased litters. © 1996 Wiley-Liss, Inc.  相似文献

Female hamsters (Generation 1) were fed ad libitum or were food-restricted to 65-75% of the amount consumed by controls during their first 50 days of life. Subjects were mated at 91 days of age. Their offspring (Generation 2) were fed ad libitum throughout the experiment, and female offspring were also mated at 91 days of age. Generation 3 litters were monitored every fifth day from birth until Day 25 post partum for litter size, sex ratio, and pup weights. Although there were no significant differences in Generation 3 litter sizes at birth, litters descended from food-restricted Generation 1 females (Group R) were significantly smaller on Days 5-25 than litters descended from control Generation 1 females (Group A). Sex ratios remained significantly greater in Group A than in Group R litters from birth to Day 25 but did not vary over time, suggesting similar post-partum mortality rates for both male and female pups. Weights of Generation 3 male and female pups did not vary significantly within treatments at any time. Group A males weighed significantly more than Group R males from birth through Day 25, but weights of Group A and Group R females were always similar. Food restriction early in life may have long-term consequences on sex ratios of subsequent generations in hamsters.  相似文献

This study aims to analyze, in mice, the long-term effects of delayed fatherhood on postnatal development, spontaneous motor activity, and learning capacity of offspring. Hybrid parental-generation (F(0)) males, at the age of 12, 70, 100, and 120 wk, were individually housed with a randomly selected 12-wk-old hybrid female. The resulting first-generation (F(1)) offspring were tested for several developmental and behavioral variables. Cumulative percentage of F(1) pups that attained immediate righting in the 120-wk group was lower than that found in the 12-, 70-, and 100-wk groups. Furthermore, the postnatal day of attaining immediate righting was higher in pups from the 120-wk group when compared to pups from the other age-groups. At the age of 20 wk, F(1) offspring from the 120-wk group displayed lower counts of motor activity than offspring from the 12-, 70-, and 100-wk groups. One week later, a higher percentage of offspring from the 100- and 120-wk groups entered the dark compartment during the retention trial of the passive-avoidance test when compared to offspring from the 12-wk group. Offspring from the 120-wk group exhibited also lower step-through latency in the retention trial than offspring from the 12-, 70-, and 100-wk groups. These results show that advanced paternal age at conception has long-term effects on preweaning development, spontaneous motor activity, and reduced passive-avoidance learning capacity of mouse offspring.  相似文献

The frequency of litter overlap, the simultaneous presence of two litters at different stages of development within a single female, varies among populations of Gambusia hubbsi in different habitats on Andros, Bahamas. In freshwater bluehole and shallow water populations, less than 2% of the females carried two litters, independent of the difference in developmental stage between the litters. In well field populations, 2% of the females carried two litters composed of immature and mature oocytes, whereas 10% carried developing oocytes and late stage embryos, and 16% carried mature oocytes (or older) and late stage embryos. Among females from populations that we introduced into unoccupied well fields 2% carried two litters composed of immature and mature oocytes, about 14% carried developing oocytes and late stage embryos, and less than 6% carried mature oocytes (or older) and late stage embryos. When two litters composed developing oocytes and late stage embryos were present, the two litters were of equal size, and the total number of offspring was 1.5 times larger than expected on the basis of female body length. When two litters composed mature oocytes (or older stages) and late stage embryos were present, the two litters were also of equal size, and the total number of offspring was as expected on the basis of female body length. Litter overlap was independent of female size. A comparison of the consequences of litter overlap for strictly lecithotrophic and strictly matrotrophic modes of reproduction with the patterns of litter overlap observed in G. hubbsi, suggests that litter overlap in G. hubbsi reduces the cost of reproduction, but does not increase the rate of offspring production.  相似文献

Neonate male rats whose mothers were nicotine-treated during lactation have higher adiposity, hyperleptinemia, and adrenal dysfunction. At adulthood, they still present higher adiposity and hyperleptinemia, but there was no report about their adrenal function. Also, there was no report of this developmental plasticity on females. Here, we evaluated the adrenal function and leptin content in adipocytes and muscle of male and female adult offspring whose mothers were nicotine-treated during lactation. On the 2nd postnatal day (PN2), dams were subcutaneously implanted with osmotic minipumps releasing nicotine (NIC-6?mg/kg/day) or saline for 14 days (12 litters/group and 2 rats/litter). Male and female offspring were killed on PN180. Significant data were p<0.05. Male NIC offspring presented higher adrenal catecholamine content (+?89%) and TH expression (+?38%), lower "in vitro" catecholamine release (-?19%), and higher adrenergic β3 receptor (ADRB3, +?59%) content in visceral adipose tissue (VAT). Serum corticosterone was higher (+?77%) in male NIC group, coherent with the increase of both CRH and ACTH immunostaining in hypothalamus and pituitary, respectively. Leptin content was higher in VAT (+?23%), which may justify the observed hyperleptinemia. Female NIC offspring presented lower ADRB3 content in VAT (-?39%) and lower leptin content in subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) (-?46%), but higher leptin content in soleus muscle (+?22%), although leptinemia was normal. We evidenced a sex dimorphism in the model of maternal nicotine exposure during lactation. The adrenal function in adult offspring was primed only in male offspring while the female offspring displayed relevant alterations in leptin content on muscle and adipocytes.  相似文献
