Using the theoretical analysis within the framework of the proposed ellipsoidal shear electromechanical model of erythrocyte, the main mechanisms and relationships have been established and studied for the deformations of erythrocytes caused by a spatially homogeneous high-frequency electric field. The main types of the stress-strain curves characteristic of stationary and dynamic deformations caused by the rectangular-pulse and harmonic modulations of the field amplitude have been calculated. The relationship has been established between the parameters of essentially nonlinear stress-strain curves and mechanical, electric, and geometric parameters of erythrocyte. The impossibility of unlimited elongation of erythrocyte by the field, due to the conservation of the cell volume and surface area, has been shown, and the dependence of the maximum possible elongation of the cell on its volume has been calculated. It has been shown that the relaxation time of dynamic deformations of erythrocyte in the presence of an electric field considerably differs from that characteristic of the membrane material and sharply decreases with the increase of the initial elongation of the cell.  相似文献

The effect of an intense low-frequency field on the insect heart function has been estimated with the use of electrocardiograms. An electric field has been found to upset heart function. Effects of static magnetic fields at the cellular level   总被引:9,自引:0,他引:9  
There have been few studies on the effects of static magnetic fields at the cellular level, compared to those of extremely low frequency magnetic fields. Past studies have shown that a static magnetic field alone does not have a lethal effect on the basic properties of cell growth and survival under normal culture conditions, regardless of the magnetic density. Most but not all studies have also suggested that a static magnetic field has no effect on changes in cell growth rate. It has also been shown that cell cycle distribution is not influenced by extremely strong static magnetic fields (up to a maximum of 10 T). A further area of interest is whether static magnetic fields cause DNA damage, which can be evaluated by determination of the frequency of micronucleus formation. The presence or absence of such micronuclei can confirm whether a particular treatment damages cellular DNA. This method has been used to confirm that a static magnetic field alone has no such effect. However, the frequency of micronucleus formation increases significantly when certain treatments (e.g., X-irradiation) are given prior to exposure to a 10 T static magnetic field. It has also been reported that treatment with trace amounts of ferrous ions in the cell culture medium and exposure to a static magnetic field increases DNA damage, which is detected using the comet assay. In addition, many studies have found a strong magnetic field that can induce orientation phenomena in cell culture.  相似文献

In this paper, we present the academic genealogy of American field primatologists. The genealogy has been compiled to formally document the historical record of this young field. Data have been collected from three main sources: 1) e-mail surveys, 2) library and Internet research, and 3) verbal communication through forums such as American Association of Physical Anthropology meetings. Lineages of primatologists have been graphically displayed using Microsoft Visio. As of September 2005, 672 names and 239 affiliated universities, organizations and institutions have been recorded in 19 lineages. Five hundred and thirty-eight of the 672 names, 80.1%, are field primatologists. The Hooton/Washburn lineage is the largest; 60.6% of the recorded field primatologists are linked to this lineage. In addition, four of the five professors who have mentored a comparable number of field primatologists at American universities since Washburn are linked to the Hooton/Washburn lineage; and the school where Washburn mentored a majority of his students, UC-Berkeley, continues to have the highest overall graduation record for this subdiscipline. However, the field of primatology has been diversifying since the 1960s, and different universities are now responsible for graduating a substantial number of primatologists. We conclude that while the Hooton/Washburn lineage has remained remarkably homogenous in its anthropological focus, the field is also becoming increasingly enriched by primatologists who have had training in fields such as zoology, psychology, and ecology both in the United States and abroad.  相似文献

The extended classical receptive field (ECRF) of retinal ganglion cells has been modelled as a combination of three zero-mean Gaussians at three different scales that has been shown to be equivalent to a Biharmonic or Bi-Laplacian of Gaussian filter. It has also been shown that the ECRF can be approximated by a combination of Laplacian of Gaussian (LoG) and the Dirac-delta function. Zero-crossings detected with this operator are more informative than those detected by the traditional filters like LoG or Difference of Gaussians (DoG) that had been devised using the classical receptive field of the ganglion cells. We have also explained that such an additional information processing is not in contradiction with the recent experimental findings on the physiology of retinal ganglion cells.  相似文献

The myeloarchitectonics of the specific human fields 40, 39, 37c, 37b of neocortex and also fields 17 and 19 which are the cortex end of visual analyzer has been studied with the help of neurohistological and quantitative methods. According to the character of the fibrous bundles, their diameter, the quantity of the fibrous in them and the diameter of the fibrous gradual changes from field 17 to field 19 and further to field 39 have been shown. It is an evidence of the succession between phylogenetically older and younger fields of the cortex. The peculiarities of the field quantitative myeloarchitectonics differing in the function and genesis are marked by heterochronous growth of these fields square in the process of evolution.  相似文献

The protein content has been determined by means of cytointerferometry in neurons of fields CA-1 and CA-3 of the dorsal hippocampus in rats, which were trained in a conditioned reflex of two-way avoidance (CRTA) with the action of subcutaneously injected enkephalin cyclic analogue (ECA) in a dose 10 mkg. It has been found that after ECA injection the protein content in the neuronal nuclei of the hippocampal CA-3 field reduces. The acceleration of the CRTA elaboration occurring during the action of ECA is accompanied by a drastic increase of the protein content in the neuronal nuclei of the CA-3 field. The ECA administration to the rats of the active control groups to which were presented the same number of unpaired conditioned and unconditioned stimuli as during the CRTA elaboration also enhances the protein content in the neurons of the CA-3 field. The rats of all investigated groups in the neurons of the CA-1 field display no such significant shifts. The conclusion has been drawn that ECA produces a regulating influence on protein metabolism in hippocampal neurons depending on their functional state.  相似文献

Molecular dynamics simulations of liquid water were performed at 258K and a density of 1.0?g/cm3 under various applied external electric field, ranging 0~1010?V/m. The influence of external field on structural and dynamical properties of water was investigated. The simple point charge (SPC) model is used for water molecules. An enhancement of the water hydrogen bond structure with increasing strength of the electric field has been deduced from the radial distribution functions and the analysis of hydrogen bonds structure. With increasing field strength, water system has a more perfect structure, which is similar to ice structure. However, the electrofreezing phenomenon of liquid water has not been detected since the self-diffusion coefficient was very large. The self-diffusion coefficient decreases remarkably with increasing strength of electric field and the self-diffusion coefficient is anisotropic.  相似文献

Mathematical methods have helped to reveal the possible mechanisms of information conversion processes by the Lorenzinian ampullae during spatial detection of the dipole electric field. A stationary voltage distribution in the inhomogeneous media has been calculated by means of numerical methods. The skate body has been represented by a thin disk. If the dipole axis was positioned in the disk plane, potential distortions near the disk were negligibly small. In other cases the electrical field energy absorbed by ampullary groups has been dramatically reduced. It was supposed that body tissues served as the space filter of the electroreceptive system. Based on the result presented here, a new mechanism of the electrolocation was proposed. The ampullary groups were predicted to play the role of arrays which were able to perceive spatial characteristics of the external electric field. The theoretical analysis of ampullary groups circular sensitivity diagrams supported the prediction.  相似文献

We present here the parmbsc0 force field, a refinement of the AMBER parm99 force field, where emphasis has been made on the correct representation of the alpha/gamma concerted rotation in nucleic acids (NAs). The modified force field corrects overpopulations of the alpha/gamma = (g+,t) backbone that were seen in long (more than 10 ns) simulations with previous AMBER parameter sets (parm94-99). The force field has been derived by fitting to high-level quantum mechanical data and verified by comparison with very high-level quantum mechanical calculations and by a very extensive comparison between simulations and experimental data. The set of validation simulations includes two of the longest trajectories published to date for the DNA duplex (200 ns each) and the largest variety of NA structures studied to date (15 different NA families and 97 individual structures). The total simulation time used to validate the force field includes near 1 mus of state-of-the-art molecular dynamics simulations in aqueous solution.  相似文献

By means of electron microscopic method, synaptic organization of some layers in the field 4 of the cat brain cortex has been studied. It has been demonstrated that: a) synaptic organization of the cortex becoms more complex from superficual layers towards deeper ones; b) axospinous and axosomatic synapses have identical structure in all the cortical layers, while the structure of axodendritic synapses depends on their localization. By electrocardiotopographic method the dynamics of electrical field has been studied on the body surface of newborn nestlings of the pied flycatcher (Ficedula hypoleuca) at the period of atrial depolarization. Current ecological surveys for great crested newts are time‐consuming and expensive and can only be carried out within a short survey window. Additional survey methods which would facilitate the detection of rare or protected species such as the great crested newt (Triturus cristatus) would be extremely advantageous. Environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis has been utilized for the detection of great crested newts in Denmark. Here, the same methodology has been applied to water samples taken from UK ponds concurrently with conventional field surveying techniques. Our eDNA analysis exhibited an 84% success rate with a kappa coefficient of agreement between field and eDNA surveys of 0.86. One pond determined to be negative for great crested newt by field survey was positive by eDNA analysis, revealing the potential for improved detection rates using this methodology. Analysis of water samples collected in late summer indicates that eDNA analysis could be used to detect great crested newt after the optimal survey window for current field techniques had passed. Consequently, eDNA analysis could augment currently stipulated techniques for great crested newt surveying as a relatively quick and inexpensive tool for collecting great crested newt presence and distribution data within the UK instead of or prior to full field surveys.  相似文献

The investigation on the conditions which cause global population oscillatory activities in neural fields, originated some years ago with reference to a kinetic theory of neural systems, as been further deepened in this paper. In particular, the genesis of sharp waves and of some rhythmic activities, such as theta and gamma rhythms, of the hippocampal CA3 field, behaviorally important for their links to learning and memory, has been analyzed with more details. To this aim, the modeling-computational framework previously devised for the study of activities in large neural fields, has been enhanced in such a way that a greater number of biological features, extended dendritic trees—in particular, could be taken into account. By using that methodology, a two-dimensional model of the entire CA3 field has been described and its activity, as it results from the several external inputs impinging on it, has been simulated. As a consequence of these investigations, some hypotheses have been elaborated about the possible function of global oscillatory activities of neural populations of Hippocampus in the engram formation.  相似文献
