Rabbit liver secretes oxidated lipoproteins in experimental atherosclerosis]

It is shown in rabbits, that alimentary hypercholesterolemia proceeds with increasing lipid peroxidation in liver homogenate, blood serum and apo-B-containing lipoproteins. It is established in the model of liver perfusion in rabbits, that liver cells produce apo-B-containing level of lipid peroxidation. The lipid peroxidation increases in perfusate and in the fraction of lipoproteins (d less than 1,065 g/cm3) from this perfusate. Lipid peroxidation can interfere in the changing of physicochemical characteristics of lipoproteins at the stage of synthesis and secretion of lipoproteins by liver cells.     

Interrelationship of the cardiovascular and digestive systems in the genesis of experimental atherosclerosis]

In chronic experiments (up to 2 years) on dogs on atherogenic diets the motor activity of the gastrointestinal tract, cholesterol, the phospholipid level in the blood and in the intestinal secretion as well as the morphology of the small intestine and the vascular system were examined. At the early stages of atherosclerosis (up to 4 months) the rise of the blood cholesterol level was followed by an increase in the periods of the activity of the gastrointestinal tract, a rise of cholesterol discharge by the small intestine, and the development of the hypertrophic process in the mucous membrane. At the later stages a change in the mucous membrane of the small intestine was observed with development of a dystrophic-atrophic process, a disturbance of motor activity of the gastrointestinal tract and of the correlations between the cholesterol content in the blood and its discharge by the small intestine. This period was characterized by a high and persistent hypercholesterolemia and pronounced atherosclerotic changes in the vascular system.

Neurotrophic action of nicotinamide and nicotinoyl-GABA in rat brain in experimental Parkinsonism]

It was established, that the content of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotides and the binding of NAD by isolated brain cortex synaptic membranes under experimental parkinsonism are impaired. Treatment of the experimental results in the Scatchard plots for binding of [U-14C]NAD to the brain cortex synaptic membranes demonstrated that binding capacities lowered, without changes of affinities. NAD-glycohydrolase involved in development of this pathology. The modulative effect of in vivo administered NAm and nicotinoyl-GABA supposes that NAm acts via NAD which binds specifically with synaptic membranes. Thus, NAm and nicotinoyl-GABA are involved in the regulation of the processes in the brain under experimental parkinsonism.     

Dicloxacillin: its chemotherapeutic action and experimental kinetic characteristics]

Activity against 50 clinical staphylococcal strains, chemotherapeutic efficiency, absorption and distribution of dicloxacillin in animals were studied in comparison with oxacillin. It was found that dicloxacillin was superior to oxacillin with respect to a number of their properties. The antibiotic was characterized by a higher antistaphylococcal activity, especially with respect to methicillin resistant strains. It was more effective in treatment of staphylococcal pneumonia and septicopiemia of albino mice. The drug was better absorpted when used orally and was detected in the blood in therapeutic concentrations for long periods of time. The antibacterial titer of the blood serum after dicloxacillin administration was 4 times higher than that of oxacillin.     

The action of valinomycin in uncoupling corn mitochondria

Valinomycin in the presence of potassium is a potent uncoupler of corn (Zea mays L.) mitochondria, eliminating respiratory control. Valinomycin produces higher steady state potassium phosphate swelling which can be reversed to give active shrinkage if mersalyl is added to block the Pi⁻/OH⁻ antiporter. Respiration declines concurrently. Uncouplers accelerate the shrinkage and restore the respiration. The same results can be obtained with sodium phosphate if gramicidin D is substituted as ionophore.     

State of vascular tone and several blood biochemical indices in experimental atherosclerosis and sensitization]

A study of the vascular tone of the posterior extremities in rabbits, of some blood lipid metabolism indices under conditions of experimental atherosclerosis and sensitization showed an increase in the vascular resistance in the areas investigated, and disturbance of lipid metabolism in two experimental groups of animals. The data obtained support the literature evidence that allergic component serves as one of the factors complicating the atherosclerosis course.
