Factors associated with soil acidity are considered to be limiting for plants in many parts of the world. This work was undertaken to investigate the role of the toxicity of hydrogen (H(+)) which seems to have been underconsidered by ecologists as an explanation of the reduced plant growth observed in very acid soils. Racial differences are reported in plant growth response to increasing acidity in the grass Holcus lanatus L. (Yorkshire-fog) and the tree Betula pendula Roth (Silver Birch). Soils and seeds were collected from four Scottish sites which covered a range of soils from acid (organic and mineral) to more base-rich. The sites and their pH (1:2.5 fresh soil:0.01 M CaCl(2)) were: Flanders Moss (FM), pH 3.2+/-0.03; Kippenrait Glen (KP), pH 4.8+/- 0.05; Kinloch Rannoch (KR), pH 6.1+/-0.16; and Sheriffmuir (SMM), pH 4.3+/-0.11. The growth rates of two races of H. lanatus, FM and KP, and three races of B. pendula (SMM, KP and KR) were measured in nutrient solution cultures at pH 2.0 (H. lanatus only), 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, and 5.6. Results showed races from acid organic soils (FM) were H(+)-tolerant while those from acid mineral soils (SMM) were Al(3+)-tolerant but not necessarily H(+)-tolerant. These results confirmed that populations were separately adapted to H(+) or Al(3+) toxicity and this was dependent upon the soil characteristics at their site of collection. The fact of plant adaptation to H(+) toxicity supports the view that this is an important factor in very acid soils.  相似文献

Abstract. 1. A study was made of the oviposition sites of five leafhopper species Diplocolenus abdominalis, Recilia coronifera, Errastunus ocellaris, Elymana sulphurella (Cicadellidae) and Dicranotropic hamata (Delphacidae) on the grasses Holcus mollis and H.lanatus.
2. Experiments were made in the laboratory, each insect species being provided simultaneously with a complete plant of both Holcus species.
3. Distribution of eggs within the leaf sheath and leaf blade, and their height above ground-level, were recorded.
4. The presence and size of egg groups were noted, as well as the angle of eggs to the longitudinal axis of the leaf.
5. On the basis of comparison of the vertical distribution of the eggs with availability of plant tissues, the five species can be divided into three groups: (a) D.abdominalis and R.coronifera , (b) D.hamata and E.ocellaris , (c) E.sulphurella. Species within a group, i.e. with similar distributions of eggs, have other features separating their oviposition sites.  相似文献

Its presence under other environmental conditions is recorded, Examples of its occurrence as a weed are quoted from Scotland, including an instance of competition with an oat crop. Eighteen hosts were inoculated with each of four races of Heterodera glycines. A discriminant function analysis of the reactions of these races to these hosts demonstrated that these races could be separated but not consistently. Then 33 H. glycines populations collected from 13 states and five obtained from Japan were tested on differential hosts. The number of variants discriminated within these 38 populations depended on the number of differentials and the rating system used. When five differentials were used with a (+) or (-) rating system there were six "races," but when 13 differentials were used with a (+) or (-) system there were 25 physiological groups. If an index rating system was used there were 36 groups. Apparently H. glycines is a very variable species and delineation of races varies with criteria chosen.  相似文献

Callicarpa x shirasawana is a natural hybrid between C. japonica and C. mollis, and has a morphology that is intermediate between those of the parent species. Characterization of natural Callicarpa populations in the Atsumi Peninsula of central Japan, which all three of the above species inhabit sympatrically, revealed hybrids with various morphologies. Molecular analysis revealed a high occurrence of introgression of the C. japonica genome into that of C. mollis. Moreover, all individuals examined with morphology similar to that of C. mollis had genetic traces of hybridization with C. japonica. Molecular analysis of individual C. mollis and C. japonica from five other areas of Japan showed that introgression of C. japonica into C. mollis occurs widely. Molecular data also strongly suggested that the previously recognized C. x shirasawana individuals with intermediate morphology are not F1 hybrids between C. japonica and C. mollis, but instead are progeny of C. x shirasawana backcrossed with C. japonica. Moreover, it was revealed that individuals with F1-type genotypes are indistinguishable morphologically from pure C. mollis. The results of the present study point to the need for re-evaluation of natural populations of C. mollis and C. x shirasawana.  相似文献

A total of 440 skulls of common shrews, Sorex araneus, from Germany and Europe (Croatia, Hungary, Austria, and Norway) were studied. The material represented six chromosomal races (Ulm, Laska, Drnholec, Mooswald, Jütland, and Abisko) assignable to the Western European and Northern European karyotypic groups. The race of a few samples was not determined. Twenty-one linear measurements were taken on skulls and mandibles and used in this study. Pearson correlations and multiple linear regressions were used to see the relationship of the cranial variables to altitude, latitude, the chromosomal race, and the geographic location. The results from the tested samples differed; the most negative correlations to latitude were found in the samples assigned to the Western European karyotypic group (WEK), the least negative ones in the samples of the Ulm race. These results indicate the converse of Bergmann's rule. But taking into consideration all the samples of the different karyotypic groups across Europe, the correlations to latitude included positive ones, which would indicate that Sorex follows Bergmann's rule in some of the variables. The studied material of different karyotypic groups could not be differentiated in discriminant analyses. The separation of the studied races within the WEK alone was slightly better, but about 30 % of ungrouped cases remained. Only the separation of the regional samples within one chromosomal race revealed better results but was still very different between the races. This indicates that within the races, regional differences might be strong enough for a separation of the samples and that within a karyotypic group, and even more so across karyotypic groups, regional differences conceal racial differences.  相似文献

As part of our ongoing efforts to sequence and map the watermelon (Citrullus spp.) genome, we have constructed a high density genetic linkage map. The map positioned 234 watermelon genome sequence scaffolds (an average size of 1.41 Mb) that cover about 330 Mb and account for 93.5% of the 353 Mb of the assembled genomic sequences of the elite Chinese watermelon line 97103 (Citrullus lanatus var. lanatus). The genetic map was constructed using an F(8) population of 103 recombinant inbred lines (RILs). The RILs are derived from a cross between the line 97103 and the United States Plant Introduction (PI) 296341-FR (C. lanatus var. citroides) that contains resistance to fusarium wilt (races 0, 1, and 2). The genetic map consists of eleven linkage groups that include 698 simple sequence repeat (SSR), 219 insertion-deletion (InDel) and 36 structure variation (SV) markers and spans ~800 cM with a mean marker interval of 0.8 cM. Using fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) with 11 BACs that produced chromosome-specifc signals, we have depicted watermelon chromosomes that correspond to the eleven linkage groups constructed in this study. The high resolution genetic map developed here should be a useful platform for the assembly of the watermelon genome, for the development of sequence-based markers used in breeding programs, and for the identification of genes associated with important agricultural traits.  相似文献

以毛鸡骨草幼苗为试验材料,测定毛鸡骨草在不同水分条件下的生长状况和相关的生理生化指标,结果表明:随着干旱胁迫的增加,毛鸡骨草幼苗的株高、茎粗、复叶长等呈递减趋势,根直径、须根数呈递增趋势;根、叶片脯氨酸含量和叶片可溶性糖的含量均呈先降低再上升的趋势,水势随干旱胁迫的加剧呈先上升后降低的趋势,根系活力随干旱胁迫的加剧呈递减趋势。但是,在严重干旱胁迫下,各生长指标的增长均受到明显的抑制。  相似文献

SRAP分子标记分析西瓜遗传多态性   总被引:16,自引:0,他引:16  
目的:探讨西瓜遗传多样性和遗传基础。方法:采用SRAP分子标记对西瓜品种D1、D2、D3、H1、H2、H3、M1、M2、M3、m1、m2、m3的多态性进行了分析。结果:每对引物组合产生13~25对比较清晰的扩增带.8对引物组合共产生131条扩增带。平均每对引物组合产生16.375条。8对引物组合共产生多态性带37条,每对引物组合产生3~7条,平均4.625条。每对引物组合产生的多态性带的比例为16.666%~38.464%,平均为28.675%。另外,对银染过程进行了优化。结论:SRAP标记多态性还是较高的,可以适于分析西瓜等遗传差异小的作物。  相似文献

To obtain introgressed sunflower lines with improved disease resistance, interspecific crosses were performed with foreign perennial species. We report on several unusual features displayed by these hybrid plants. The methods used to produce the kernels affected yield and genotypes of progeny. Phenotypic traits and DNA markers were investigated in 97 plants derived from cross-pollination between annual diploid cultivated sunflower (Helianthus annuus) and the perennial diploid species H. mollis or H. orgyalis, and the reverse reciprocal crosses. The level of hybridization in progeny was determined using RAPD and RFLP markers. Hybridization was performed by leaving embryos to develop normally on the head (classical crossing) or using embryo rescue. All observed plants derived from H. mollis were diploid (2n = 34). Phenotypes were predominantly similar to the female when cultivated sunflower was the female parent. Progeny from crosses using a wild species as the female parent resembled that parent. Thus, reciprocal crosses led to different progeny. F1 sister progeny shared different sets of molecular markers representing a few of those of the wild species used as the pollen donor. Our results indicate mechanisms leading to the unusual event of partial hybridization. Possible mechanisms behind these unusual events and their possible impact on evolution are discussed.  相似文献

We compared the ability of 33 plant species collected in forest to have their seeds dispersed by the wood red ant Myrmica ruginodis. The elaiosome-bearing seeds (species Chelidonium majus, Colchicum autumnale, Luzula forsteri, Viola reichenbachiana, Luzula multiflora, Melica uniflora) and the small and light caryopses of the grasses (Holcus mollis, Agrostis capillaris, Deschampsia flexuosa, Poa trivialis, Holcus lanatus) are the most efficiently collected by ants. The seed quantity removed by ants is correlated negatively with their length. No significant correlation is found between the rate of seed removal and the frequency of the plants in the field at the scale of the study.  相似文献

研究了不同浓度NaCl处理对翅果油树幼苗高度、叶绿素含量、膜脂过氧化和保护酶活性的影响.结果表明,随着NaCl浓度的升高和胁迫时间的延长,幼苗高度明显受到抑制,叶绿素含量呈下降趋势.整个处理过程中,丙二醛(MDA)含量逐渐增加,但增加幅度不大,表明脂质过氧化反应水平不高.各处理浓度的叶片相对电导率、超氧化物歧化酶(SOD)、过氧化物酶(POD)活性均呈上升趋势.研究表明,翅果油树幼苗在NaCl胁迫下有活性较高的膜保护酶系统,具有一定的抗盐能力.  相似文献

The occurrence of Leymus arenarius as a constituent of the Greenlandic flora is confirmed. The different patterns of hairiness of the rachis segments characteristic of L. mollis and L. arenarius , respectively, were found to correlate with endospermal protein patterns fractionated with SDS-PAGE (sodium dodecylsulphate, polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis). The characteristics of its protein patterns were substantiated by a transect study of L. arenarius through Fennoscandia. The northern populations of L. mollis and L. arenarius displayed no or relatively little variation in endospermal protein patterns within plants or sites. This may reflect a prevailing self-pollination, founder effect, clonal spreading of stands and selection or any combination thereof. The key proteins of 120 to 140 kg mole-1 demarcating L. mollis and L. arenarius were shown to be soluble in 50% isopropanol at pH 8.0, and hence to be prolamins, which were also found to carry glycosylation. The spontaneous, sterile hybrids of these species in Greenland have an intermediary morphology. A hybrid clone may form relatively wide stands in South and Southwest Greenland.  相似文献

Isolation, characterization, and analysis of Leymus-specific DNA sequences.   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Genomic Southern hybridization using labeled total genomic DNA of Leymus mollis as probe showed intense hybridization signals on all restriction enzyme digested DNA from five species of Leymus Hochst., and four species of Psathyrostachys Nevski. Experiments using the same L. mollis probe, but with unlabeled blocking DNA from Psathyrostachys, showed no hybridization at all. These two genera evidently had the same genomic content. Southern hybridization without blocking allowed identification of DNA fragments abundant in Leymus and Psathyrostachys. Fragments potentially specific to Leymus were cloned. Five repetitive DNA clones from L. mollis and L. arenarius were characterized: pLmIs1, pLmIs44, pLmIs51, pLmIs53, and pLaIs56. These clones hybridized to both Leymus and Psathyrostachys on Southern blots - no clone hybridized to only one of these genera. Both Southern blot and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) experiments showed that all the clones contained dispersed repetitive sequences. They painted all and whole chromosomes uniformly except at centromeres, telomeres, and nucleolar organiser regions. Three of these clones, i.e., pLmIs1, pLmIs44, and pLmIs53, were essentially specific to Leymus and Psathyrostachys - little or no hybridization was detected in other genera such as Triticum, Hordeum, Thinopyrum, or Elymus. Sequence analysis further revealed that the clones were part of retroelements. In particular, the clone pLmIs44 produced hybridization profiles suitable for analysis of genetic relatedness among species. The present study shows that Leymus and Psathyrostachys share the same basic genome, Ns, and therefore provides strong evidence for combining these two genera.  相似文献

Decreased arsenate [As(V)] uptake is the major mechanism of naturally selected As(V) hypertolerance in plants. However, As(V)-hypertolerant ecotypes also show enhanced rates of phytochelatin (PC) accumulation, suggesting that improved sequestration might additionally contribute to the hypertolerance phenotype. Here, we show that enhanced PC-based sequestration in As(V)-hypertolerant Holcus lanatus is not due to an enhanced capacity for PC synthesis as such, but to increased As(V) reductase activity. Vacuolar transport of arsenite-thiol complexes was equal in both ecotypes. Based on homology with the yeast As(V) reductase, Acr2p, we identified a Cdc25-like plant candidate, HlAsr, and confirmed the As(V) reductase activity of both HlAsr and the homologous protein from Arabidopsis thaliana. The gene appeared to be As(V)-inducible and its expression was enhanced in the As(V)-hypertolerant H. lanatus ecotype, compared with the non-tolerant ecotype. Homologous ectopic overexpression of the AtASR cDNA in A. thaliana produced a dual phenotype. It improved tolerance to mildly toxic levels of As(V) exposure, but caused hypersensitivity to more toxic levels. Arabidopsis asr T-DNA mutants showed increased As(V) sensitivity at low exposure levels and enhanced arsenic retention in the root. It is argued that, next to decreased uptake, enhanced expression of HlASR might act as an additional determinant of As(V) hypertolerance and As transport in H. lanatus.  相似文献

利用生物信息学方法,对西瓜(Citrullus lanatus(Thunb.)Matsum.&Nakai)JmjC基因家族的成员进行鉴定,对该基因家族的染色体定位、基因结构、蛋白结构域、选择压力和酶活位点进行分析,并对该基因家族与其它物种的系统进化及共线性关系进行研究。结果显示:西瓜全基因组含有17个JmjC候选基因,核苷酸序列长度为1209~5541 bp;这些基因均含有JmjC结构域,分别位于9条染色体上,归属8个亚族。系统进化、选择压力以及共线性分析结果表明,西瓜与黄瓜(Cucumis sativus L.)亲缘关系较近,JmjC家族基因数量相同,其中14个成员呈现一对一的共线性关系;而西瓜与拟南芥(Arabidopsis thaliana(L.)Heynh)亲缘关系较远,但西瓜和拟南芥同一亚族中JmjC基因间Ka/Ks的比值均小于1,推测西瓜各个亚族成员的编码蛋白功能与同一亚族的拟南芥成员功能极为相似。酶活位点分析结果表明西瓜JmjC基因家族中有10个成员具有潜在的组蛋白去甲基化酶活性。  相似文献

 These studies were undertaken to determine whether downy mildew resistance genes in sunflower were independent as first reported, or linked as suggested by more recent hypotheses. The segregations for downy mildew reaction of 111 F3 progenies from a cross between a susceptible line and a line with Pl2 were used to locate this gene on the sunflower consensus RFLP linkage map. It was shown that Pl2 was linked to the same RFLP markers on linkage group 1 as Pl1 and Pl6, mapped earlier, and at a very similar distance. The F3 progenies showed exactly the same segregation patterns when tested with race 1 and race D. One hundred and fifty four progenies from a cross between a susceptible line and HA335, containing Pl6 (considered as giving resistance to all Plasmopara halstedii races), were tested with the five French downy mildew races, 1, A, B, C and D. Two progenies were observed to show segregation for races 1 and D, while appearing homozygous-resistant to races A , B and C. Tests on F4 progenies confirmed this separation of resistances with fixation of susceptibility to races 1 and D and resistance to races A, B and C. It is concluded that the Pl6 gene is not a “strong” gene, giving resistance to all downy mildew races, but rather a cluster of genes, each providing resistance to one, or a few, downy mildew races. The genes giving resistance to races 1 and D, on one hand, and to races A, B and C, on the other hand, must be very closely linked, with about 0.6 cM between the two groups.
