Hydromedusae (Cnidaria: Hydrozoa) are one of the most common and widely spread plankton organisms. Due to their low quantities in the plankton and complicated species identification, they are poorly observed in zooplankton research works, especially in the Northwestern part of the Sea of Japan. The subjects of the present work are the seasonal dynamics of the spatial distribution and abundance of hydromedusae that inhabit Vostok bay (Peter the Great bay of the Sea of Japan), which were observed from April to November in 2002–2004. The timing of mature specimens was studied for different species. Eighteen species were found. Of these, Coryne sp., Tiaropsis multicirrata (Sars, 1835) and Neoturris breviconis (Murbach et Shearer, 1903) are the first records for Peter the Great Bay; the last two species are the first records for the Northwestern part of the Sea of Japan.  相似文献

Having evaluated data collected by the TINRO Center for a period of 23 years on the distribution of pelagic ichthyofauna, conclusions regarding the ichthyofaunistic zoning of the northwestern part of the Sea of Japan are here presented. Areas presenting the most dramatic changes in abundance and variety of species delineate 12 basic ichthyofaunistic zones whose species-clustering information, when examined in its entirety, clearly reveals the state of the faunistic province of the northern Sea of Japan.  相似文献

On the basis of long-term (1981–2008) observations, it was shown that, in the northwestern part of the Sea of Japan, sea raven Hemitripterus villosus is a common species with low, but stable numbers and it is a part of elittoral ichthyocenoses. During the year it performs wintering, feeding, and spawning migrations within the shelf and the upper part of the continental slope occurring from almost the water’s edge to a depth of 550 m. Highest density of sea raven is observed in Peter the Great Bay and the lowest is observed off the coasts of northern Primorye. Maximum length of H. villosus in the northwestern part of the Sea of Japan reaches 57 cm, and the modal group of fish consists of fish with a length of 25–45 cm (75%). In Peter the Great Bay, in the summer period, individuals with a length of 11–50 cm feed mainly on mass fish species; the value of daily ration of H. villosus varies from 1.6 to 3.2% of body weight, averaging 2.5%. According to an expert estimate, the biomass of sea raven in the northwestern part of the Sea of Japan reaches 2000 t.  相似文献

On the basis of materials collected in 32 expeditions in the northwestern part of the Sea of Japan from 1984 to 2009, seasonal and interannual dynamics of biomass of Pacific cod Gadus macrocephalus stock was analyzed. Seasonal variation of spatial and bathymetric distributions of this species is considered. The conclusion of the existence of seasonal migrations of cod along the continental coast is substantiated.  相似文献

Mirabilicoxa kussakini sp. nov. is described from the bathyal of the northwestern Sea of Japan. This is the first record of the genus Mirabilicoxa Hessler, 1970 in the Sea of Japan. The new species is most similar to M. similis (Hansen, 1916), M. plana Hessler, 1970 and M. minuta Hessler, 1970 from the Northwest Atlantic. It differs from them in having a more elongated body (4.1–4.5 times as long as wide) and antenna 1 with the terminal article 5 shorter than article 4.  相似文献

This paper examines the genetic variability of the Pacific mussel Mytilus trossulus and an introduced Atlantic species, M. galloprovincialis, in the northwestern Sea of Japan (Peter the Great Bay and Kievka Bay). The genotyping of individuals from eight populations was carried out using eight polymorphic enzyme loci and two nuclear DNA markers (Me-5 and ITS-1,2); the occurrence frequency of parent species and their hybrids was determined. The enzyme and nuclear markers demonstrated concordant genetic variation. The genotypes of the native species M. trossulus were predominant in the samples studied. The frequency of the introduced species M. galloprovincialis in the total material was relatively low; however, it reached 42 ± 2% in samples that were collected in Possjet Bay near the town of Zarubino in a zone of active international navigation. In this area the greatest number of hybrids was found as well. It is concluded that the invasion of M. galloprovincialis in the northwestern Sea of Japan is continuing; permanent populations of this mussel appeared in Possjet Bay that were not recorded here previously.  相似文献

The first finding of the hydromedusa Hydractinia minima (Trinci, 1903) in plankton of Peter the Great Bay (Sea of Japan) is reported. The hydromedusae are 0.24–0.51 mm in bell diameter and 0.25–0.53 mm in height. The size characteristics of the nematocysts of this species (desmonemes and microbasic euryteles) are given. H. minima is present in the plankton of Peter the Great Bay from June through October at water temperatures of 16.4 to 22°C with the highest mean monthly density of 151 ind./m3. The finding of H. minima in Peter the Great Bay extends the area of this species in the North Pacific to the low-boreal subzone.Original Russian Text Copyright © 2005 by Biologiya Morya, Chaplygina, Dautova.  相似文献

The population structure of Pacific cod Gadus macrocephalus in the southern part of the range and adjacent regions is studied on the basis of the results of microsatellite analyses. Collected data indicate heterogeneity of this species population within the studied area. According to the obtained FST values, Pacific cod from the waters of the Republic of Korea (Yellow Sea side) and northwestern part of the Sea of Okhotsk significantly differ from all other studied regions (Table 4). Significant differentiation was also revealed between samples from the waters of the Tatar Strait and all other regions except for South Kurils Pacific cod (both Sea of Okhotsk and Pacific Ocean sides). These two latter sample collections were similar to each other as well. A low level of differentiation was also shown for the Peter the Great Bay and the East Sea/Sea of Japan waters of the Republic of Korea.  相似文献

Six intraspecific lineages (Lineages 1–6) of Asparagopsis taxiformis have been previously established based on mitochondrial cox2‐cox3 intergenic spacer and a partial cox1 sequences. ‘Lineage 2’ (L2) was suggested to be a recent introduction to the Mediterranean Sea, but its source population has not yet been identified. In order to clarify the nature of northwestern Pacific populations, we performed extensive sampling in Japan (60 individuals from 16 locations) and molecular phylogenetic analyses based on mitochondrial sequences. Sixteen additional individuals, collected from eight locations in the Indo‐Pacific, Caribbean, and Mediterranean regions, were also analyzed. Combined sequence analyses revealed that the Japanese populations only consisted of L2. Out of 19 combined haplotypes identified within L2, two are shared between Japan and the Mediterranean Sea and the Hawaiian Islands, and 12 were identified as endemic to Japan. Genetic analyses of population differentiation suggested that Japanese populations are genetically isolated from the Mediterranean and the Hawaiian populations. A genetic disjunction appears to separate two subpopulations within Japan: one between Toi and Kagoshima and the other between Ojikajima Island and Kagoshima in the Kyushu area.  相似文献

The life cycle of Laodicea indica is described. In the Bismarck Sea this species shows a normal alternation of generations in the wet season; but in the dry season the cycle is contracted, and planulae give rise to gonothecae without formation of a hydroid colony. Medusae are liberated about 3 d after planula settlement. This life cycle pattern is previously unreported in hydromedusae. The possible adaptive value of such a life cycle and the evolution of polyp reduction in hydromedusan life cycles are discussed.  相似文献

In summer-autumn of 2003–2004, the ichthyoplankton of the Sea of Okhotsk comprised 35 species. In this period the most widely distributed and numerous were larvae of the lord Hemilepidotus gilberti, the Pacific stout sand lance Ammodytes hexapterus, and the Sakhalin dab Limanda sakhalinensis. The maximum catches of fish larvae were attributed to coastal waters off eastern Sakhalin and to the shelf of the northern part of the Sea of Okhotsk. In November of 2003, the ichthyoplankton of the Sea of Japan was represented by fish larvae belonging mainly to the boreal ichthyocomplex. The catches consisted predominantly of larvae of the arabesque greenling Pleurogrammus azonus, the ronquil Bathymaster derjugini, and the rockfish Sebastes owstoni. Fish larvae and fry in the northwestern part of the Sea of Japan were caught principally within 43°–45° N and 137°–139° E above the depth 1500–2000 m. The food spectrum of fish larvae in the Sea of Okhotsk and the Sea of Japan comprised over 20 plankters of various size belonging to seven taxa. Irrespective of fish species, the food items common of all fish were copepods Pseudocalanus minutus and Oithona similis. The daily rations were calculated for mass species (Hemilepidotus gilberti, Ammodytes hexapterus, Hexagrammos stelleri, Pleurogrammus azonus, Bathymaster derjugini, and Sebastes owstoni). The larvae of all considered species in the Sea of Japan and in the Sea of Okhotsk fed predominantly in the light period of the day.  相似文献

This paper describes a new cumacean species, Campylaspis vassilenkoae sp. n., which was found in the northwestern Sea of Japan at 250–1550 m. C. vassilenkoae sp. n. is most similar to C. aperta Lomakina, 1958, but it differs from the latter species in the shape and size of the depression on the carapace, the absence of eye lenses, and a smaller ratio of the uropod peduncle length to the endopod.  相似文献

Summary Production studies were carried out in the Mackenzie River/Beaufort Sea estuary during the summer of 1986. Results indicate that there were two plankton communities. One was located near the river mouth and was characterized by high dissolved organic carbon, high bacterial activity and a community of amphipods. The second community was associated with high phytoplankton production off shore and with a community of copepods, hydromedusae and ctenophores. The offshore marine/oceanic community was quantitatively much more productive than the near shore bacterial community during the summer months.  相似文献
