凋落物的生产和分解是生态系统养分循环的重要过程,受到大气氮沉降的深刻影响。但目前相关研究主要集中于森林和草地生态系统,氮沉降对灌丛生态系统凋落物养分归还的影响规律尚不清楚。因此选择亚热带分布广泛的杜鹃灌丛为研究对象,进行了为期两年的模拟氮沉降试验。试验设置4个处理:对照(CK, 0 g m-2 a-1)、低氮(LN, 2 g m-2 a-1)、中氮(MN, 5 g m-2 a-1)和高氮(HN, 10 g m-2 a-1)。结果显示:CK、LN、MN和HN 4种处理下,群落年平均凋落物量分别为(1936.54±358.9)、(2541.89±112.5)、(2342.97±519.8)、(2087.22±391.8) kg/hm2,LN、MN和HN处理样地的凋落量分别比对照样地高出32.68%、21.16%和7.93%;凋落叶、花果、凋落枝和其他组分占总凋落量的比例分别为75.75%、15.09%、7.70%和1.45%,不同浓度氮处理下各组分的凋落量均高于对照样地;凋落物组分表现出明显的季节动态:凋落叶在10—11月份达到峰值,凋落枝在10月份达到峰值,花果凋落物则在5月份凋落量最高,不同氮处理下凋落物的季节动态基本一致;白檀凋落叶分解速率显著高于杜鹃,二者分解95%所需时间分别为5.08—11.11 a和7.69—17.65 a,施氮使白檀凋落叶分解周期比对照样地缩短18.18%—54.28%;凋落叶分解过程中,N元素表现为富集-释放模式,P元素表现为富集模式。研究表明,氮添加能够促进群落中白檀凋落叶分解及N、P元素的释放,说明施氮可以调节凋落叶养分释放模式,对灌丛生态系统的养分循环具有调控作用。  相似文献

From two cDNA libraries made of flowers of the evergreen Rhododendron simsii hybrid ‘Flamenco’ and the deciduous species Rhododendron luteum, 323 cDNA fragments were randomly sequenced and functions were assigned. Reliable homologies were found for 31% of the fragments. For mapping applications, EST-derived markers were developed on 127 sequences. Since polymorphisms are more prone to come about in introns, primers were selected to have an elevated probability to be intron-spanning. The utilised approach resulted in an overall polymorphism-generating efficiency of 35% (45 polymorphic markers). The transferability of these cDNA-based EST markers among plant species was confirmed within the Rhododendron genus. The markers developed here are currently screened for the construction of genetic linkage maps of four crossing populations of R. simsii hybrids.  相似文献

We have performed a high-resolution linkage analysis for the conserved segment on distal mouse Chromosome (Chr) 8 that is homologous to human Chr 16q. The interspecific backcross used involved M. m. molossinus and an M. m. domesticus line congenic for an M. spretus segment from Chr 8 flanked by phenotypic markers Os (oligosyndactyly) and e, a coat colormarker. From a total of 682 N2 progeny, the 191 animals revealing a recombination event between these phenotypic markers were typed for 23 internal loci. The following locus order with distances in cM was obtained: (centromere)–Os–4.1–Mmp2–0.2–Ces1,Es1, Es22–1.2–Mt1,D8Mit15–2.2–Got2, D8Mit11–3.7–Es30–0.3–Es2, Es7–0.9–Ctra1,Lcat–0.3–Cdh1, Cadp, Nmor1, D8Mit12–0.2–Mov34–2.5–Hp,Tat–0.2–Zfp4–1.6–Zfp1,Ctrb–10.9–e. In a separate interspecific cross involving 62 meioses, Dpep1 was mapped together with Aprt and Cdh3 at 12.9 cM distal to Hp, Tat, to the vicinity of e. Our data give locus order for markers not previously resolved, add Mmp2 and Dpep1 as new markers on mouse Chr 8, and indicate that Ctra1 is the mouse homolog for human CTRL. Comparison of the order of 17 mouse loci with that of their human homologs reveals that locus order is well conserved and that the conserved segment in the human apparently spans the whole long arm of Chr 16. A genetic linkage map of bovine Chromosome (Chr) 7 was generated with a Bos taurus×Bos gaurus interspecific hybrid backcross panel. This study included six previously mapped microsatellites and five unmapped expressed genes that were identified by PCR-based restriction fragment length variants (RFLVs). The gene order (from centromere to telomere) and the map distances (in centimorgans) are as follows: cen–BM2607–11.2–LDLR–3.6–AMH,CSF2–11.2–BP41–19–BM6117–19–SPARC–14.4–FGFA–15.5–BM1853–11.2–RASA–18.8–ILSTS006. Previous comparative synteny mapping demonstrated that bovine Chr 7 shares homologous regions with both HSA5q and HSA19p. A break or fusion between AMH and CSF2 in an ancestral chromosome is suggested to account for the current arrangement of these homologous segments in the human and bovine genomes. In this study, we demonstrate that a short proximal portion of BTA7 is homologous with HSA19p, while a larger distal portion of BTA7 is homologous with human Chr 5q. The orientation of these conserved human segments on BTA7 is also demonstrated. Our data show that the linear order of genes has not been conserved within the homologous region of HSA5 and BTA7, and one chromosomal translocation or inversion is proposed to account for this difference. For the systematic study of the gonostomatid fishes of theDiplophos taenia species complex, a total of 698 specimens was obtained from the three oceans. Four valid species were recognized:D. taenia Günther,D. proximus Parr,D. orientalis Matsubara, andD. australis sp. nov. The diagnostic characters are 90–100 total vertebrae (TV) (37–41 abdominal (AV) +52–60 caudal vertebrae (CV)) and 103–115 IC photophores (IC) for D.taenia, 85–90 TV (36–39 AV + 48–52 CV) and 98–104 IC forD. proximus, 83–86 TV (33–35 AV + 49–52 CV) and 92–100 IC for D.orientalis, and 84–91 TV (33–37 AV+ 50–54 CV) and 99–105 IC forD. australis. In addition to the above,D. proximus has larger orbital diameter (the proportion to head length 21–28%) than the other three species (15–23%) beyond 70mm in standard length. Due to wide distribution,D. taenia shows meristic variations: the numbers of TV, IC and anal fin rays (A) are smaller at lower latitudes and larger at higher ones in all oceans, and the number of A is smaller in the Atlantic (56–71) than in the other oceans (59–72) of the same latitude. Because of these variations, identification to species level is possible only area by area. The distribution of each of the four species is also distinct:D. taenia is a cosmopolitan between about 40° N and 30° S exclusive of the eastern tropical Pacific;D. proximus is endemic to the eastern tropical Pacific;D. orientalis is limited to the North Pacific transitional zone between about 30° and 40° N; andD. australis in a transitional zone of the Southern Ocean south of 20° S.  相似文献

The role of the C-terminal region of Bacillus licheniformis γ-glutamyl transpeptidase (BlGGT) was investigated by deletion analysis. Seven C-terminally truncated BlGGTs lacking 581–585, 577–585, 576–585, 566–585, 558–585, 523–585, and 479–585 amino acids, respectively, were generated by site-directed mutagenesis. Deletion of the last nine amino acids had no appreciable effect on the autocatalytic processing of the enzyme, and the engineered protein was active towards the synthetic substrate L-γ-glutamyl-p-nitroanilide. However, a further deletion to Val576 impaired the autocatalytic processing. In vitro maturation experiments showed that the truncated BlGGT precursors, pro-Δ(576–585), pro-Δ(566–585), and pro-Δ(558–585), could partially precede a time-dependent autocatalytic process to generate the L- and S-subunits, and these proteins showed a dramatic decrease in catalytic activity with respect to the wild-type enzyme. The parental enzyme (BlGGT-4aa) and BlGGT were unfolded biphasically by guanidine hydrochloride (GdnCl), but Δ(577–585), Δ(576–585), Δ(566–585), Δ(558–585), Δ(523–585), and Δ(479–585) followed a monophasic unfolding process and showed a sequential reduction in the GdnCl concentration corresponding to half effect and ΔG 0 for the unfolding. BlGGT-4aa and BlGGT sedimented at ∼4.85 S and had a heterodimeric structure of approximately 65.23 kDa in solution, and this structure was conserved in all of the truncated proteins. The frictional ratio (f/f o) of BlGGT-4aa, BlGGT, Δ(581–585), and Δ(577–585) was 1.58, 1.57, 1.46, and 1.39, respectively, whereas the remaining enzymes existed exclusively as precursor form with a ratio of less than 1.18. Taken together, these results provide direct evidence for the functional role of the C-terminal region in the autocatalytic processing of BlGGT.  相似文献

Proctotrema bartolii n. sp. (Digenea: Monorchiidae) is described based on naturally and experimental obtained adults from the marine fishes Odontesthes smitti (Lahille), O. nigricans (Richardson) (Atherinopsidae) and Eleginops maclovinus (Cuvier) (Eleginopidae) off Patagonia, Argentina, in the Southwestern Atlantic Ocean. Its generic identification is based on the presence of a unipartite terminal organ with the metraterm uniting with its distal region, an unarmed genital atrium, a single testis, a vitellarium follicular lateral to the ovary and ventral sucker, and uterine coils occupying most of hindbody. The new species differs from P. bacilliovatum Odhner, 1911, P. amphitruncatum Fischthal & Thomas, 1969 and P. guptai Ahmad & Dhar, 1987 in having a smaller body (305–650 vs 1,600–3,080, 1,500–1,800 and 2,150–2,670 μm, respectively), a round vs funnel-shaped oral sucker, a smooth vs lobed ovary, a saccular rather than tubular excretory vesicle, the number of vitelline follicles (12–16 vs 8–9, 9 and 6–8, respectively), and wider eggs (25–31 × 15–20 vs 28–37 × 9–12, 24–28 × 7–10, and 24–30 × 8–10 μm, respectively). Moreover, the new species differs from P. bacilliovatum and P. amphitruncatum in having a saccular rather than a coiled seminal vesicle, and from P. bacilliovatum and P. guptai in having its tegument completely vs partly spined. Proctotrema Odhner, 1911 is considered to be restricted to these four species. This is the first report of a species of this genus from South American waters.  相似文献

The sex pheromones of two species of hawk moth, Deilephila elpenor lewisii (Butler) and Theretra oldenlandiae oldenlandiae (Fabricius), were analyzed using gas chromatography–electroantennographic detection (GC–EAD) and GC–mass spectrometry (GC–MS). Two and three EAD-active components were found in D. elpenor lewisii and T. oldenlandiae oldenlandiae, respectively. GC–MS analyses using authentic compounds and extracts derivatized by dimethyl disulfide and 4-methyl-1,2,4-triazoline-3,5-dione identified the two components in D. elpenor lewisii as (E)-11-hexadecenal (E11–16:Ald) and (10E,12E)-10,12-hexadecadienal (E10,E12–16:Ald), and the three in T. oldenlandiae oldenlandiae as E11–16:Ald, E10,E12–16:Ald, and (10E,12Z)-10,12-hexadecadienal (E10,Z12–16:Ald). In field-trap tests, no males of either species were attracted to any single components. Male moths of D. elpenor lewisii were specifically attracted to a binary blend of E11–16:Ald and E10,E12–16:Ald at a ratio of 85:15, whereas males of T. oldenlandiae oldenlandiae were attracted to a ternary blend of E11–16:Ald, E10,Z12–16:Ald and E10,E12–16:Ald at a ratio of 30:40:30. We therefore conclude that the sex pheromone of D. elpenor lewisii is a mixture of E11–16:Ald and E10,E12–16:Ald and that of T. oldenlandiae oldenlandiae is E11–16:Ald, E10,Z12–16:Ald and E10,E12–16:Ald.  相似文献

A new lecanicephalidean species of Aberrapex Jensen, 2001 is described from the blue-spotted fantail ray Taeniura lymma (Forsskål) collected off the eastern coast of Sabah in Malaysian Borneo. This is the first record of a lecanicephalidean tapeworm from the island of Borneo and the first record of Aberrapex from this host species. A. manjajiae n. sp. is easily distinguished from its two congeners, A. senticosus Jensen, 2001 and A. arrhynchum (Brooks, Mayes & Thorson, 1981) Jensen, 2001, based on its overall smaller size (928–1,971 vs 1,485–6,333 and up to 3,350μm long, respectively) and fewer testes (10–19 vs 20–40 and 18–25, respectively). In addition, A. manjajiae n. sp. is readily distinguished from A. senticosus based on a more anteriorly positioned genital pore (76–85 vs 52–72% of proglottid length from posterior end) and its distal bothridial microthrix pattern. A. manjajiae n. sp. can be further distinguished from A. arrhynchum based on its smaller scolex (82–101 × 119–164 vs 177–186 × 233–326μm). The host distribution of Aberrapex is expanded from the Myliobatidae to include the Dasyatidae.  相似文献

A mannan of Candida glabrata IFO 0622 digested by Arthrobacter exo-α-mannosidase and a β-1,2-linked mannobiose obtained from the parent mannan by acid treatment was analyzed using 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The results show that the β-1,2-linked mannobiosyl residue is esterified to a phosphate group through position C-1 in the α-configuration, Manβ1– 2Manα1–HPO3–. The results of immunochemical assays of these mannans using the commercial antigenic factor sera of the genus Candida (Candida Check, Iatron) indicate that the main recognition site of serum no. 6 in this kit is the mannotetraosyl side-chain Manβ1–2Manα1– 2Manα1–2Man in C. glabrata mannan and also suggest that the phosphate-containing unit (such as Manβ1– 2Manα1–HPO3– in this mannan) behaves as one of the antigenic determinants of serum no. 6, but not of serum no. 5. Therefore, the present and previous findings indicate that serum no. 5 recognizes relatively longer β-1,2-linked oligomannosyl side-chains, Manβ1–[2Manβ1–]n 2Man (n = 1–6), attached to the phosphate groups previously observed in the cell wall mannans of Candida albicans, Candida stellatoidea, and Candida tropicalis. A new species of Dipcadi (Hyacinthaceae) that is allied to D. concanense (Dalzell) Baker but differs in its small flowers (13 – 18 mm long vs 35 – 47 mm long) and funnel shaped perianth tube (5 – 6  ×  5 – 6 mm vs 18 – 27  ×  4 – 5.5 mm) is described as D. goaense. The new species is apparently endemic, because it is known only from the type locality in Goa state of India. The type locality is at the foothills of Western Ghats and the habitat is a soil covered, lateritic, open area.  相似文献

Stolephorus teguhi sp. nov. is described from the holotype and 14 paratypes, 49–77 mm in standard length, collected from North Sulawesi, Indonesia. The species is characterized by having numerous gill rakers (31–35 + 41–46 = 72–82) and a short upper jaw, its posterior tip reaching to or extending slightly beyond the anterior margin of the preopercle. Stolephorus pacificus and S. multibranchus also have relatively numerous gill rakers for species of this genus (21–27 + 29–36 = 53–61 and 21–28 + 30–35 = 54–60, respectively), but counts for S. teguhi exceed those for the two species. Although S. advenus also has a short upper jaw similar to that of S. teguhi, the former has far fewer gill rakers (19 + 24 = 43) than the latter.  相似文献

The bronx waltzer (bv) mutation is an autosomal recessive mutation that is manifested as head tossing and circling in the mouse. The mutation affects the inner hair cells (IHCs) and pillar cells in the organ of Corti of the cochlea and the maculae and cristae of the vestibular part of the inner ear. IHCs begin to degenerate by a controlled mechanism of cell death as early as gestational day 17 (G17) in the basal coil of the cochlea, and few surviving IHCs are seen in the adult. As a first step towards the identification of bv, we analyzed a total of 20 loci in 118 mice from an intraspecific backcross giving the gene order: centromere–D5Mit1D5Mit73D5Mit55–[D5Mit12, Nds4 (Afp)]–D5Mit87–[D5Mit205, 20, 88, 208, 93D5Mit338]–D5Mit25D5Mit209bvD5Mit188D5Mit367D5Mit95D5Mit43D5Mit102. A total of 701 mice were then analyzed for the markers D5Mit93 and D5Mit95, defining a region of 12.08 cM flanking bv. Mice that were recombinant between D5Mit93 and D5Mit95 were analyzed for D5Mit338, D5Mit25, D5Mit209, bv, D5Mit188, and D5Mit367. bv maps 0.14 cM distal of the marker D5Mit209 and 1.14 cM proximal of the marker D5Mit188 in 701 backcross progeny. Although the velocity of single kinesin motors against an opposing force F of 0–10 pN is well known, the behavior of multiple kinesin motors working to overcome a larger load is still poorly understood. We have carried out gliding assays in which 3–7 Drosophila kinesin-1 motors moved a microtubule at 200–700 μm/s against a 0–31 pN load at saturating [ATP]. The load F was generated by applying a spatially uniform magnetic field gradient to a superparamagnetic bead attached to the (+) end of the microtubule. When F was scaled by the average number of motors 〈n〉, the force–velocity relationship for multiple motors was similar to the force–velocity relationship for a single motor, supporting a minimal load-sharing model. The velocity distribution at low load has a single mode consistent with rapid fluctuations of n. However, against a load of 2.5–4.7 pN/motor, additional modes appeared at lower velocity. These observations support the Klumpp–Lipowsky model of multimotor transport [Proc Natl Acad Sci USA 102. 17284–17289 (2005)].  相似文献

Fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) with rRNA-specific oligonucleotide probes was used to assess the numbers and phylogenetic diversity of prokaryotic microorganisms in the water of small boreal lakes and peatland catchments of the swampy upper Volga basin. The abundance of bacterioplankton in lake water was found to vary from 1.6 to 8.7 × 106 cells ml−1, with the highest values detected in neutral eutrophic lakes. The total cell numbers in the peat of ombrotrophic bogs were 3.9–4.3 × 108 cells g−1 of wet peat. The proportion of bacteria identified by the group-specific probes decreased from 79–85% in neutral (pH 6.6–6.9) mesotrophic and eutrophic lakes to 65–69% in acidic (pH 4.4–5.5) dystrophic lakes and to 51–58% in the peat of acidic (pH 3.6–3.9) ombrotrophic bogs. The diversity of bacterial communities was highest in lakes with neutral water. These communities were dominated by members of the phylum Actinobacteria (31–44% of the total bacterial number), while the contribution of Alphaproteobacteria (16–19%), Bacteroidetes (6–16%), Betaproteobacteria (6–7%), Planctomycetes (2–8%), and Gammaproteobacteria (4–5%) was also significant. In acidic dystrophic lakes, Actinobacteria (25–35%) and Betaproteobacteria (25–34%) predominated, while peatland catchments were dominated by the Alphaproteobacteria (20–23%). The presence of acidobacteria and some planctomycetes common for bogs in the water of acidic dystrophic lakes, as well as the high proportion of bacteria (31–49%) that were not identified by the group-specific probes, suggest the impact of microbial processes in peatland catchments on the microbial composition of the receiving waters.  相似文献

Using hydrophilicity and recognition values of amino acids, the antigenic sites of theΒ-subunits of human choriogonadotropin and luteinizing hormone were computed from their amino acid sequences. Six antigenic sites were calculated for human choriogonadotropinΒ-subunits: residues 3–8, 17–22, 59–65,100–106,110–116 and 134–139. For luteinizing hormoneΒ-chain three antigenic sites were calculated: residues 17–22,59–65, and 100–106; all these three sites of luteinizing hormoneΒ being identical to the corresponding sites in human choriogonadotropinΒ. There was no antigenic site in luteinizing hormone that was also not found in human choriogonadotropin. On the other hand, there were unique determinants in human choriogonadotropin that were not found in luteinizing hormone; these determinants were residues 3–8, 110–116 and 134–139  相似文献

 The nature of the association between two species may vary depending on population abundances, age or size of individuals, or environmental conditions. Interactions may switch between beneficial and detrimental depending on the net balance of costs and benefits involved for each species. We study the repercussion of the ecological setting on the outcomes of conditional or variable interactions by means of a model that incorporates density-dependent interaction coefficients; that is, interaction α-functions. These characterize the responsiveness and sensitivity of the association to changes in partner's abundance, and can take positive and negative values. Variable outcomes – and transitions between them – are categorized as homeo- or allo-environmental, that is, occurring under the same ecological setting, or not, respectively. Bifurcation analyses show that these dynamics are moulded by ecological factors that are: intrinsic to the nature of the association (concerning the sensitivity of the interaction), and extrinsic to the association itself (the quality of the environment referred to each species alone). The influence of these factors may be conflicting; consequently, the dynamics involve catastrophic events. In a facultative variable association, stable coexistence is expected when environmental conditions are adverse; otherwise, the exclusion of one species is the likely outcome. Remarkable situations as the switching of victim-exploiter roles illustrate the theoretical perspective. Atherinomorus aetholepis sp. nov. is described from the holotype and 51 paratypes, 44–72 mm in standard length, collected from Indonesian and Philippine waters. The species is similar to other congeners in general body appearance, especially A. duodecimalis and A. regina, in having a slender body, a tubercle on the posterior end of the dentary, and a narrow midlateral band, but clearly differing from them in having a long spatular outgrowth on the posterior margins of most of the predorsal and interdorsal scales. Additionally, the species differs from A. duodecimalis in having a more slender body [body depth 17–22 (mean 19) % SL vs. 19–25 (mean 22) % SL], more midlateral scales [37–40 (mean 38.4) vs. 35–38 (mean 36.6)], more total vertebrae [38–42 (mean 39.9) vs. 36–40 (mean 38.0)], and fewer lower gill rakers [18–22 (mean 20.2) vs. 20–25 (mean 22.3)], and from A. regina in having more anal fin soft rays (12–14 vs. 9–10).  Direct cyclic voltammetry and 1H NMR spectroscopy have been combined to investigate the electrochemical and spectroscopic properties of cytochrome c 553 isolated from the alkaliphilic soil bacterium Bacillus pasteurii. A quasi-reversible diffusion-controlled redox process is exhibited by cytochrome c 553 at a pyrolitic graphite edge microelectrode. The temperature dependence of the reduction potential, measured using a non-isothermal electrochemical cell, revealed a discontinuity at 308 K. The thermodynamic parameters determined in the low-temperature range (275–308 K;ΔS°′=–162.7±1.2 J mol–1 K–1, ΔH°′=–53.0±0.5 kJ mol–1, ΔG°′=–4.5±0.1 kJ mol–1, E°′=+47.0±0.6 mV) indicate the presence of large enthalpic and entropic effects, leading, respectively, to stabilization and destabilization of the reduced form of cytochrome c 553. Both effects are more accentuated in the high-temperature range (308–323 K;ΔS°′=–294.1±8.4 J mol–1 K–1, ΔH°′=–93.4±3.1 kJ mol–1, ΔG°′=–5.8±0.6 kJ mol–1, E°′=+60.3±5.8 mV), with the net result being a slight increase of the standard reduction potential. These thermodynamic parameters are interpreted using the compensation theory of hydration of biopolymers as indicating the extrusion, upon reduction, of water molecules from the hydration sphere of the cytochrome. The low-T and high-T conformers differ by the number of water molecules in the solvation sphere: in the high-T conformer, the number of water molecules extruded upon reduction increases, as compared to the low-T conformer. The ionic strength dependence of the reduction potential at 298 K, treated within the frame of extended Debye-Hückel theory, yields values of E °′ (I=0) =–25.4±1.4 mV, z red=–11.3, and z ox=–10.3. The pH dependence of the reduction potential at 298 K shows a plateau in the pH range 7–10 and an increase at more acidic pH, allowing the calculation of pK O=5.5 and pK R=5.7, together with the estimate of the reduction potentials of completely protonated (+71 mV) and deprotonated (+58 mV) forms of cytochrome c 553. 1H NMR spectra of the oxidized paramagnetic cytochrome c 553 indicate the presence of a His-Met axial coordination of the low-spin (S=1/2) heme iron, which is maintained in the temperature interval 288–340 K at pH 7 and in the pH range 4.8–10.0 at 298 K. The temperature dependence of the hyperfine-shifted signals shows both Curie-type and anti-Curie-type behavior, with marked deviations from linearity, interpreted as indicating the presence of a fast equilibrium between the low-T and high-T conformers, having slightly different heme electronic structures resulting from the T-induced conformational change. Increasing the NaCl concentration in the range 0–0.2 M causes a slight change of the 1H NMR chemical shifts of the hyperfine-shifted signals, with no influence on their linewidth. The calculated lower limit value of the apparent affinity constant for specific ion binding is estimated as 5.2±1.1 M–1. The pH dependence of the isotropically shifted 1H NMR signals of the oxidized cytochrome displays at least one ionization step with pK O=5.7. The thermodynamic and spectroscopic data indicate a large solvent-derived entropic effect as the main cause for the observed low reduction potential of B. pasteurii cytochrome c 553. Two new species of the sciaenid genusJohnius (Johnius) are described:J. trewavasae from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore, differs from all other congeners in having 24–27 dorsal soft rays, 5–6 scales above and 7–10 scales below the lateral line, 6–8 obtuse lower gill rakers, the last pleural rib on the 11th vertebra, and a shorter lower jaw (33.8–38.4% HL);J. latifrons from Thailand and Java is characterized by 25–29 dorsal soft rays, 7–9 scales above and 11–14 scales below the lateral line, 7–9 obtuse lower gill rakers, a wide interorbital width (26.1–30.6% HL), a small eye (16.7–26.4% HL), and a short, second anal spine (25.9–37.1% HL).
