Background: The acylation stimulating protein (ASP) is a potent lipogenic adipokine that correlates with postprandial triglyceride (TG) clearance and is linked to the pathophysiology of obesity and related disorders. Objective: To investigate ASP levels in cord blood and its relation to maternal and cord blood lipid parameters and fetal birth weight. Methods and Procedures: Thirty nondiabetic pregnant women, their newborns, and thirty‐three nonpregnant controls were included in this study. Fasting maternal and cord blood ASP, TGs, nonesterified fatty acids (NEFAs), cholesterol, glucose levels, in addition to maternal BMI and fetal birth weight were measured. Results: No significant difference was found between cord blood ASP (16.3 ± 0.96 nmol/l) and ASP levels in the adult controls (15.7 ± 1.0 nmol/l). Cord blood ASP, however, was lower than maternal plasma ASP levels (25.4 ± 1.6 nmol/l, P < 0.001). Yet, lipid levels in cord blood, particularly TGs were markedly decreased compared to control and maternal TG levels (threefold and 7.4‐fold, P < 0.001 respectively). Maternal TGs significantly correlated with fetal birth weight (r = 0.54, P = 0.002). Multiple regression analysis showed that maternal TGs (β = 0.57, P = 0.01) and NEFAs (β = 0.43, P = 0.024) predicted 45% variation in cord blood ASP levels, independent of all measured maternal and cord blood parameters. Cord blood ASP showed a positive correlation with fetal birth weight (r = 0.524, P = 0.037) in neonates above average fetal birth weight of the studied population. Discussion: This is the first study investigating ASP in cord blood. We suggest that maternal hypertriglyceridemia is associated with increased fetal ASP production, thus enhancing fetal fat storage independent of maternal glucose variations in nondiabetic women.  相似文献

Skinfold thickness is an index of subcutaneous fat, and certain maternal conditions during pregnancy affect the skinfold thicknesses of the baby. A study was performed to investigate the effect of smoking on skinfold thickness, maternal weight gain, and fetal size at birth. A total of 452 mothers with normal singleton pregnancies were groups as: non-smokers, light-to-moderate smokers, or heavy smokers. Maternal age, height, parity, and duration of pregnancy were similar in the three groups. Heavy smokers gained significantly less weight than non-smokers, but there was no significant difference in skinfold thickness. Babies born to smokers had lower birth weights and smaller head circumferences and were shorter than those born to non-smokers, but skinfold thicknesses were similar. The presence of a normal layer of subcutaneous fat in babies whose mothers smoked suggests that fetal growth retardation is not caused by nutritional deficiencies.  相似文献

  • 1.1. Acid and alkaline phosphatase activities of eight different snake venoms were determined quantitatively by using synthetic substrates, o-carboxyphenylphosphate and p-nitrophenylphosphate respectively.
  • 2.2. It was found that most of Elapidae venoms investigated had both acid and alkaline phosphatase activities.
  • 3.3. Three Crotalidae venoms investigated did not show any alkaline phosphatase activity.
  • 4.4. The strength of venom acid phosphatase activity is as follows: Agkistroden acutus > Naja haje > Naja naja samarensis > Naja naja atra > Naja melanoleuca.
  • 5.5. The strength of venom alkaline phosphatase activity by using p-nitrophenylphosphate is in the order of Naja hannah > Naja haje > Naja naja samarensis > Naja naja atra > Naja melanoleuca. When o-carboxyphenylphosphate was used as a substrate, the order of enzyme activity is Naja hannah > Naja haje > Naja naja samarensis > Naja melanoleuca > Naja naja atra.
  • 6.6. Acid phosphatase activity of all the Elapidae venoms was inhibited completely by fluoride. The alkaline phosphatase activity of Elapidae venoms was not inhibited by fluoride either using p-nitrophenylphosphate or o-carboxyphenylphosphate.
  • 7.7. The acid phosphatase of all the Elapidae venoms was not inhibited by zinc ion. However, most of the venom alkaline phosphatases were inhibited by zinc ion.
  • 8.8. Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) had inhibitory action on venom phosphatase activity. However, tris-(hydroxymethyl)-aminoethane had a counter effect on the inhibitory action of EDTA.
  • 9.9. Optimum pH studies of the snake venom phosphatases showed that the acid phosphatases of the snake venoms had their highest activity in the range of pH 4–5. The alkaline phosphatases of the snake venoms had their optimum pH at 9.
  • 10.10. Comparable experiments were also conducted by using chicken intestine alkaline phosphatase and wheat germ acid phosphatase.

Immunoreactive endothelin concentrations in maternal and fetal blood   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
Immunoreactive-endothelin (ir-ET) concentrations were determined in peripheral maternal blood and in umbilical cord blood just after delivery. The concentrations in both the umbilical artery (2.83 +/- 1.36 pmol/l plasma, Mean +/- SD) and vein (3.37 +/- 1.53 pmol/l) were significantly higher than those found in maternal venous blood (1.43 +/- 1.02 pmol/l). On the other hand, ir-ET levels in maternal blood were not significantly different when compared with those found in non-pregnant women (1.50 +/- 0.83 pmol/l). No significant difference of ir-ET levels between the umbilical artery and vein was observed. A highly significant correlation (r = 0.60, p less than 0.01) of ir-ET levels between the umbilical artery and vein was observed. Also, a significant correlation (r = 0.48, p less than 0.01) between umbilical vein and maternal vein ir-ET levels with a weaker correlation (r = 0.36, p less than 0.05) between umbilical artery and maternal vein ir-ET levels was demonstrated. The present study indicates that ir-ET may be actively secreted in fetal circulation and the plasma levels in maternal and fetal circulation may have a possible relation.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To assess the effect of size at birth, maternal nutrition, and body mass index on blood pressure in late adolescence. DESIGN: Population based analysis of birth weight corrected for gestational age, mother''s weight before pregnancy and weight gain in pregnancy, obtained from the Jerusalem perinatal study, and blood pressure and body mass index at age 17, available from military draft records. SETTING: Jerusalem, Israel. SUBJECTS: 10,883 subjects (6684 men and 4199 women) born in Jerusalem during 1974-6 and subsequently drafted to the army. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Systolic and diastolic blood pressures measured at age 17 and their correlation with birth weight, size at birth, mother''s body mass index and weight gain during pregnancy, and height and weight at age 17. RESULTS: Systolic and diastolic blood pressures were significantly and positively correlated with body weight, height, body mass index at age 17, and with mother''s body weight and body mass index before pregnancy, but not with birth weight or mother''s weight gain in pregnancy. CONCLUSION: Variables reflecting poor intrauterine nutrition, including low maternal body mass index before pregnancy, poor maternal weight gain in pregnancy, and being born small for gestational age, were not associated with a higher blood pressure in late adolescence.  相似文献

Spontaneous and chemically-induced reactivation of organophosphate-inhibited cholinesterase were studied using as an enzyme source plasma obtained from non-pregnant females, pregnant females at term and their respective neonates, sampled immediately following delivery. Aliquots of plasma were incubated with dichlorvos (10?6M) for 5 min at 37°C resulting in a 96 percent inhibition of cholinesterase activity in all three groups at which time either pralidoxime chloride (10?3M) or an equivalent volume of saline was added to the reaction flask and the restoration of cholinesterase activity was monitored over the next 120 min. Pralidoxime-mediated cholinesterase reactivation in ‘non-pregnancy’ plasma was significantly greater than that observed in either ‘maternal’ or ‘fetal’ plasma, however, no significant difference was noted in reactivation rates for these latter two groups. Significant differences were also observed in the rates of spontaneous reactivation, however, after correcting for this, there were still significant differences in the rates of pralidoxime-mediated reactivation (non-pregnant > pregnant ≥ fetal).  相似文献

The objective of the work was to study the relationship between the oxidative state of the mother and the newborn at the moment of birth. We measured oxidative stress markers (carbonyl groups, lipid peroxides and total antioxidant capacity (TAC)) and found a good correlation between the oxidative state of the normal mother and the neonate, since a high mother oxidative stress corresponds to an even higher oxidative stress of the newborn in umbilical cord blood. We also found that smoking mothers and their newborns had a higher concentration of the carbonyl group, lipid peroxides and less TAC. Newborns from these mothers weighed significantly less than others at birth. These data suggest a need for interest in monitoring the oxidative state of mothers during the pregnancy period, especially taking into account that the oxidative level could be involved in later risks of metabolic diseases for both mother and newborn.  相似文献

The goal of this study was to evaluate the relation between kittens' birth weights and biometrical factors from the kittens and the mother during pregnancy. Knowing fetal birth weight could help in detecting abnormalities before parturition. A Caesarean-section or a postnatal management plan could be scheduled. Consequently, the neonatal mortality rate should be decreased. We used ultrasonographic measurements of femur length (FL) or fetal biparietal diameter (BPD), pregnancies, and maternal factors to obtain a model of prediction. For this purpose, linear mixed-effects models were used because of random effects (several fetuses for one queen and a few paired measurements) and fixed effects (litter size, pregnancy rank, weight, wither height, and age of the queen). This study was performed in 24 purebred queens with normal pregnancies and normal body conditions. Queens were scanned in the second half of pregnancy, using a micro-convex probe. They gave birth to 140 healthy kittens whose mean birth weight was 104 g (ranged 65 to 165 g). No correlation between the birth weight and the age of the queen, as a maternal factor alone, was observed. But the birth weight was found to be inversely proportional to the pregnancy rank and the litter size. Moreover, birth weight increased when the weight and wither height of queen increased. BPD and FL increased linearly during pregnancy so a model was used to estimate mean birth weight. Using this model, we found a correlation between mean birth weights and an association of parameters: maternal factors (wither height and age), and litter size.  相似文献
