Population dynamics of 1482 specimens of painted comber, Serranus scriba (Linnaeus, 1758), caught in the Trogir Bay area (eastern mid‐Adriatic) from June 2001 to May 2002 were studied to provide information on age, growth, length–weight relationship, mortality and exploitation rate of the species’ stock. Annuli on otholiths indicated the presence of seven age‐classes. Obtained von Bertalanffy growth parameters were: L = 30.36 cm, K = 0.192 year?1 and t0 = ?0.366.  相似文献

Comber is an important bycatch species in the trawl fishery both in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. Age and growth studies have been restricted to the eastern Mediterranean and no methodologies were ever applied to ensure accuracy and precision. In this study a total of 471 otoliths from specimens ranging from 12 to 26?cm were used. Precision indices showed a high level of agreement between readers and no evidence of systematic disagreement was obtained. To estimate fish growth and due to the absence of individuals smaller than 12?cm, three approaches were used to estimate the von Bertalanffy growth parameters: whole otolith readings, back calculation and a combination of both methodologies. Akaike’s information criterion suggests that the back calculation approach was the best one for describing comber growth: TL?=?25.26 [1?e(?0.21(t+1.72)]. Natural mortality estimates varied between M?=?0.44 year?1 and M?=?0.48 year?1 while estimates of the fishing mortality varied between 0.12 year?1 and 0.16 year?1 and the exploitation rate between 0.20 and 0.27.  相似文献

Age, growth and mortality of picarel Spicara smaris L. collected in the eastern middle Adriatic during April and May in 1999 were studied. The total lengths of individuals ranged from 6.3 to 19.8 cm, and the weight from 2.2 to 78.3 g. The slopes ( b values) of the total length–weight regressions indicated negative allometric growth for females ( b =2.8± 0.03) and isometric growth for males ( b =3.08±0.04). The oldest female and male were 4 and 6 years, respectively. The von Bertalanffy growth parameters for the sexes combined were ( L =22.76 cm, K =0.277, t 0=−0.793). The overall sex ratio was 1 : 4.1 in favour of females. Individuals larger than 17.9 cm were all males.  相似文献

Data on the length–weight relationship, age, growth, sex ratio and mortality were analysed for the Mediterranean sand smelt, Atherina (Atherina) hepsetus L. (total = 2805; males = 1258; females = 1547) collected in the eastern middle Adriatic island area during the reproductive period (February to April) in 2002. The total length of sampled specimens ranged from 3.8 to 14.5 cm and the weight from 0.28 to 22.39 g. The overall sex ratio was 1.23 : 1 in favour of females, significantly different from the expected 1 : 1 ratio (χ2 = 29.76; P < 0.05). All individuals >13.4 cm were females. The oldest collected male and female specimens were 5 years old. The von Bertalanffy growth formula was estimated for females (L = 15.79 (1−e−0.43(t+0.049)) and males (L = 15.25 (1−e−0.43(t+0.018)). The power values (b) of the length–weight relationship were very similar for both sexes (b = 3.14) and indicated a slightly allometric growth. The instantaneous rates of mortality for all collected fish were Z = 1.44 year−1; M = 0.94 year−1 and F = 0.50 year−1. The exploitation ratio was E = F/Z = 0.35. The value for M is highly uncertain, however, as well as those values for F and E.  相似文献

The reproductive biology and sexual pattern of Serranus scriba (Linnaeus, 1758) were examined in the Trogir Bay area (middle‐eastern Adriatic) from June 2001 to May 2002. The total length (TL) of all observed specimens ranged from 7.1 to 20.0 cm; 50% of the population of this species sexually matured at 9.3 cm TL. Spawning took place from May to August, with a peak in June and July. Positive allometry was established in the length–weight relationship (b = 3.15).  相似文献

Age, growth and mortality were analysed for red bandfish, Cepola macrophthalma, collected in the eastern Adriatic from May 2002 to June 2003. The oldest male was estimated to be age 4, the oldest female age 3. Parameters of the von Bertalanffy growth equation are: L = 55.0 cm (SE = 0.1), K = 0.445 (SE = 0.074) and t0 = ?0.1 (SE = 0.001) for males, and L = 48.9 cm (SE = 0.167), K = 0.395 (SE = 0.062) and t0 = ?0.009 (SE = 0.02) for females. The overall sex ratio was 1.42 : 1 in favour of males. Total mortality, corresponding to the slope of the descending limb of the catch curve, was Z = 1.20 per year for females and Z = 1.23 per year for males. Exploitation ratios were E = 0.479 for females and E = 0.433 for males.  相似文献

The age and growth of an Asturian population of the bib Trisopterus luscus L. were studied based on 990 bibs from monthly catches from October 1986 until October 1988.Using the estimates of age taken from otolith readings, it was possible to construct a growth curve for the whole range of ages and demonstrate that most growth takes place during the first two years of life. The maximum age was found to be 5 years. The largest fish caught during the investigation measured 430 mm in standard length. The different growth rates of males and females show that in most cases the mean standard length of females was equal to or greater than that of the males.  相似文献

Age, growth and mortality were analysed for the common two‐banded seabream, Diplodus vulgaris, collected in the eastern Adriatic (Croatian coast) from commercial fishery catches by ‘tramata’ fishing (2005–2006) to obtain growth estimation. The oldest female was estimated to be age 11, the oldest male age 10 years. The von Bertalanffy growth parameters estimated by reading scales were: L = 48.60 cm (SE = 1.101), K = 0.112 (SE = 0.005) and t0 = ?2.366 (SE = 0.060) for all specimens; L = 51.96 cm (SE = 2.153), K = 0.095 (SE = 0.007) and t0 = ?2.837 (SE = 0.120) for females and L = 56.25 cm (SE = 2.662), K = 0.084 (SE = 0.067) and t0 = ?2.920 (SE = 0.117) for males. The overall sex ratio was 1.22 : 1 in favour of males. Total mortality, corresponding to the slope of the descending limb of the catch curve, was Z = 0.81 per year for females and Z = 0.85 per year for males. Exploitation ratios were E = 0.68 for females and E = 0.73 for males.  相似文献

The commercial comber Serranus cabrilla is widely distributed in the Atlanto‐Mediterranean region, inhabiting a great variety of habitats and depths. We developed primers for 12 polymorphic microsatellite loci to analyse the genetic structure between comber populations and between their colour morphs in order to establish correct fisheries management. Characterization of 25 individuals from Columbretes Islands (Spain) showed an average large number of alleles (9.5 ± 1.3) and observed heterozygosity (0.657 ± 0.06). Only two loci showed significant departure from Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium. We found no evidence of linkage disequilibrium between pairs of loci. We rejected for primer design one clone with a microsatellite within the transposable element TX_FR2.  相似文献

The knowledge of the reproductive strategy is essential for the comprehensive understanding of the population dynamics of any fish species. This study intends to define the spawning season, verify the type of fecundity regulation and estimate relative annual fecundity for Serranus atricauda inhabiting the south-west of Portugal seamounts (Gorringe, Ampère and Lion). Monthly samples, between September 2010 and December 2011, were obtained from commercial vessels. This species is synchronously hermaphroditic, and mature individuals were found all year round, with gonadosomatic index peak from February to September. No clear relation between hepatosomatic index and Fulton’s condition factor and gonadal development was found, and therefore, it is probable that reproductive success depends more on environmental conditions and food availability during the spawning season than on body energy reserves. No gap exists between pre-vitellogenic and vitellogenic oocytes and the oocyte size-frequency distribution during the main spawning season show no dominant cohort progressing through time. The number of standing stock of advanced vitellogenic oocytes showed an increase trend along the spawning season decreasing only at its end and the relative intensity of α-atresia was always low throughout this period with an increase towards the end. All these criteria corroborate the indeterminate fecundity type assigned to S. atricauda in previous studies. Mean relative annual fecundity estimated was 5,655 ± 4,321 oocytes per gram of gutted weight.  相似文献

Age and growth of pearly razorfish Xyrichtys novacula (Labridae) were determined in specimens caught on sandy bottoms by surrounding nets and lines (depth range 5–30 m) between January 2000 and December 2002. The study location was in the central Mediterranean Sea. For this purpose the annual growth increments (annuli) in sagittae were analysed. A total of 470 individuals of X. novacula, ranging from 49 to 200 mm TL (total length), were examined. Conversion between total length and standard length was calculated and represented by the relationship: . Edge analysis on otoliths was carried out to validate seasonality deposition. Seven age‐classes were determined from 0+ to 6+. The linear relationship between maximum otolith length (OL) and TL was summarized in the equation . The estimated parameters of the von Bertalanffy growth function were L = 175.05 mm, k = 0.80 year?1, t0 =?0.73 years and the growth performance index calculated as (Φ = 2.39). The length–weight relationship W = 0.0139 TL2.9326 described an isometric growth for the species in this area.  相似文献

Stomach contents of 144 specimens of Oblada melanura were analyzed for diet composition. All specimens belonged to the 1‐year age group. Material was collected from the localities of Kornati Archipelago and Murter Island in the eastern central Adriatic during 1992–1993. Copepod crustaceans were the main food, while Cladocera crustaceans were the second most important. Feeding intensity was very high as indicated by high stomach fullness index and low vacuity index.  相似文献

Zoea I larvae of the brown shrimp Crangon crangon (Decapoda)were exposed to varying levels of UV radiation in a sunshinesimulator. ‘Short-term exposures’ (0–8 h)were used to determine the highest UV dose with no significanteffect (NOEC; defined by limit of detection) and the lethaldose of 10 and 50% mortality (LD10 and LD50). Crangon crangonshowed a relatively high sensitivity to UVB radiation (NOEC= 10 kJ m–2, LD10 = 15 kJ m–2, LD50 = 24 kJ m–2)compared to other crust-acean species. LD values (1997–1998)showed no adaptation to seasonal light regimes. ‘Long-termexposures’ (0–10 days) were carried out to assessthe range where the ‘law of reciprocity’ is valid. The larvae were exposed to UV levels of 0.2, 0.4 and 0.7 J m–2for appropriate time intervals, always cumulating in a sublethaldose of 5 kJ m–2 day–1. Results reflect a possiblethreshold (0.2–0.4 J m–2 UVB) in the effect of thedifferent UVB doses used; thus, a proportional relationshipof intensity and exposure time can only be shown at UVB levelsabove this threshold intensity.  相似文献

Sagittal otoliths from the Atlantic and Mediterranean regions of Serranus cabrilla L. were compared using shape indices (form‐factor, roundness, circularity, rectangularity, ellipticity and eccentricity). Regional differences were best described by form‐factor, circularity and eccentricity variables. The canonical discriminant functions were built with form‐factor or rectangularity indices. The results indicated slight regional variations. The G‐test was the criterion more useful to identify the otolith origin in the discriminant analysis.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to determine the basic population‐specific parameters necessary for fish stock assessment in the area and to compare these with data from other Mediterranean regions. White seabream Diplodus sargus sargus (n = 449) were caught along the Algerian coast between December 2005 and December 2006. Total length ranged from 12.2 to 34.6 cm, representing age classes between 0 and 10 years. Validity of the otolith readings for estimating age and growth was supported using the back‐calculation method. The von Bertalanffy growth parameters for all fish were calculated as: TL = 36.3 cm, k = 0.154 year−1, t0 = −0.488 year. The growth performance index (φ) showed a relatively slow growth of the local population. The length‐weight relationship showed an isometric growth (b = 2.98; r = 0.98). Subspecies Diplodus sargus sargus was characterized as being a proterandric hermaphrodite. Overall ratio of males to females was 1 : 1.4, with males predominant in the smaller size intervals and females in the larger ones. The reproductive season extended from January to May, with a March–April peak in spawning activity. Fifty per cent maturity of the tested cohort was reached at a total length of 20.2 cm for males and 20.0 cm for females.  相似文献

Age, growth, and mortality of the edible crab, Cancer pagurus, were determined for the native population in South Wales (UK). Sampling was carried out on a monthly basis between February 2001 and September 2002. Carapace width ranged between 10.4 and 163 mm. Based on the carapace width frequency distribution, the Swansea and Gower population was composed mainly of males belonging to the first and second age‐class (1 and 2), and of females belonging to the third and fourth age‐class (3 and 4). Sex ratio was 1.126 ± 0.27 in favour of males. Carapace width frequency distributions and weight‐at‐age data were used to estimate the von Bertalanffy growth equation parameters. For the population as a whole, these were: L∞ = 199 mm, W∞ = 1179.56 g, K = 0.24 year?1, t0 = ?0.1004 years. The overall carapace width–weight relationship was: W = 0.38(CW2.69). Analysis of covariance indicated a significant difference in the carapace width–weight relationship between males and females in the study area. Total mortality Z and natural mortality M rates for combined sexes were 1.245 year?1 and 0.567 year?1, respectively. The exploitation ratio E was estimated to be 54.43%.  相似文献
