The strain distribution for macronutrient diet selection was described in 13 mouse strains (AKR/J, NZB/B1NJ, C57BL/6J, C57BL/6ByJ, DBA/2J, SPRET/Ei, CD-1, SJL/J, SWR/J, 129/J, BALB/cByJ, CAST/Ei, and A/J) with the use of a self-selection protocol in which separate carbohydrate, fat, and protein diets were simultaneously available for 26-30 days. Relative to carbohydrate, nine strains consumed significantly more calories from the fat diet; two strains consumed more calories from carbohydrate than from fat (BALB/cByJ, CAST/Ei). Diet selection by SWR/J mice was variable over time, resulting in a lack of preference. One strain (A/J) failed to adapt to the diet paradigm due to inadequate protein intake. Comparisons of proportional fat intake across strains revealed that fat selection/consumption ranged from 26 to 83% of total energy. AKR/J, NZB/B1NJ, and C67BL/6J mice self-selected the highest proportion of dietary fat, whereas the CAST/Ei and BALB/cByJ strains chose the lowest. Finally, epididymal fat depot weight was correlated with fat consumption. There were significant positive correlations in AKR/J and C57BL/6J mice, which are highly sensitive to dietary obesity. However, absolute fat intake was inversely correlated with epididymal fat in two of the lean strains: SWR/J and CAST/Ei. We hypothesize that the SWR/J and CAST/Ei strains are highly sensitive to a negative feedback signal generated by increasing body fat, but the AKR/J and C67BL/6J mice are not. The variation in dietary fat selection across inbred strains provides a tool for dissecting the complex genetics of this trait.  相似文献

The accumulation of triglycerides (TG) in the liver, designated hepatic steatosis, is characteristically associated with obesity and insulin resistance, but it can also develop after fasting. Here, we show that fasting-induced hepatic steatosis is under genetic control in inbred mice. After a 24-h fast, C57BL/6J mice and SJL/J mice both lost more than 20% of body weight and ∼60% of total body TG. In C57BL/6J mice, TG accumulated in liver, producing frank steatosis. In striking contrast, SJL/J mice failed to accumulate any hepatic TG even though they lost nearly as much adipose tissue mass as the C57BL/6J mice. Mice from five other inbred strains developed fasting-induced steatosis like the C57BL/6J mice. Measurements of the uptake of free fatty acids (FA) in vivo and in vitro demonstrated that SJL/J mice were protected from steatosis because their heart and skeletal muscle took up and oxidized twice as much FA as compared with C57BL/6J mice. As a result of this muscle diversion, serum-free FA and ketone bodies rose much less after fasting in SJL/J mice as compared with C57BL/6J mice. When livers of SJL/J and C57BL/6J mice were perfused with similar concentrations of FA, the livers took up and esterified similar amounts. We conclude that SJL/J mice express one or more variant genes that lead to enhanced FA uptake and oxidation in muscle, thereby sparing the liver from FA overload in the fasting state.Liver and adipose tissue coordinate metabolic responses to oscillations in nutrient availability (1, 2). In the postprandial state, the liver secretes triglycerides (TG)4 into the blood in very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL). In adipose tissue, lipoprotein lipase hydrolyzes the TG, producing fatty acids (FA) and monoglycerides that enter fat cells for reesterification and storage as TG (1). The activity of adipose tissue lipoprotein lipase is enhanced by the postprandial rise in insulin. At the same time, insulin inhibits lipolysis of stored TG in fat cells, assuring that the TG will be retained in the cells (3).Under fasting conditions, insulin falls and the inhibitory effect of insulin on adipose tissue lipolysis is diminished. The released FA enters the blood and is used as an energy source in liver, heart, and skeletal muscle. In the liver, excess FA are either re-esterified into TG for intracellular storage or oxidized and secreted as ketone bodies, which become the main energy source for the brain. In skeletal muscle during fasting, FA are oxidized to CO2 (1, 2).We (46) and others (7) previously reported that livers of mice accumulate large amounts of TG after fasting for 6–24 h. In the current study, we screened 7 strains of inbred mice to study the genetic control of fasting-induced hepatic TG accumulation. Mice from 6 of 7 strains exhibited fasting-induced fatty liver. In the unique mouse strain (SJL/J), hepatic TG failed to accumulate after a 24-h fast even though the SJL/J mice lost amounts of body weight and adipose tissue that were similar to those of the other 6 strains. To trace the mechanism for the difference in hepatic TG accumulation, we conducted extensive comparisons of SJL/J mice and C57BL/6J mice. We provide evidence that mice from both strains release comparable amounts of FA from adipose tissue into blood after fasting. In the SJL/J mice, the bulk of these FA are taken up by muscle and oxidized. In C57BL/6J mice, FA uptake in muscle is comparatively low, and the excess FA are taken up by the liver where they are converted to TG. Thus, genetic control of muscle FA uptake determines the level of hepatic TG accumulation in fasted mice.  相似文献

Research was undertaken to answer basic questions on susceptibility, clinical response and transmission of ectromelia virus in selected strains of inbred mice. C57BL/6J and AKR/J were found to be markedly more resistant to a virulent strain of ectromelia virus (isolated during the 1979-80 outbreak at the National Institutes of Health) than C57LJ, BALB/cByJ, DBA/2J, A.By/SNJ and C3H/HeJ when infected by footpad inoculation. In C57BL/6J and AKR/J the LD50 was about 7 logs higher than the ID50. With one exception, C57LJ, the LD50 and ID50 titers in the other strains were about equal. In C57LJ the LD50 titer was intermediate. Following intragastric inoculation, virus was isolated from feces of C57BL/6J mice for as long as 46 days and up to 29 days from BALB/cByJ mice. Transmission to cage mates from intragastrically infected C57BL/6J and BALB/cByJ occurred up to 36 and 30 days respectively after infection. Virus was isolated from the spleen in 2 of 5 BALB/cByJ mice and 1 of 7 C57BL/6J mice tested 95 days after gastric inoculation. Following footpad inoculation, BALB/cByJ mice consistently transmitted virus to cage mates before death at 10-12 days. C57BL/6J mice transmitted between days 8 and 17, but not beyond. Virus was maintained in C57BL/6J mice by exposure to infected cage mates for seven passages, which was the most attempted. Clinical signs in infected C57BL/6J mice were usually subtle or inapparent.  相似文献

The identification and mode of action of genetic loci that program gene expression during development are important for understanding differentiation in higher organisms. Previous work from this laboratory has identified two patterns for the postnatal development of liver beta-galactosidase among inbred mouse strains: type I, where activity levels remain constant after about 30 days of age, is found in strains DBA/2J, CBA/J, and BALB/cJ, among others; type II, where activity levels increase between 25 and 50 days of age to reach a new adult level, is found in strain C57BL/6J and related strains. It has been shown that the type I vs. type II developmental difference between strains C57BL/6J and DBA/2J is due to variation at a locus, Bgl-t, that maps with the beta-galactosidase complex, [Bgl], on chromosome 9. In the present study, we have confirmed the existence of Bgl-t as a temporal locus within [Bgl] by analysis of both a congenic strain carrying the beta-galactosidase complex of strain CBA/J in the C57BL/6J genetic background and a cross of strains CBA/J and C57BL/6J. The existence of additional temporal loci for beta-galactosidase that segregate independently of the structural gene and participate in determination of the type I vs. type II difference was revealed by analysis of: (1) a congenic strain containing the beta-galactosidase complex of strain BALB/cJ in the C57BL/10Sn background; (2) recombinant inbred lines derived from progenitor strains C57BL/6ByJ and BALB/cByJ; and (3) a genetic cross between strains C57BL/6ByJ and BALB/cByJ. Thus, for these pairs of strains, the type I vs. type II developmental difference is due to variation at a temporal locus (or loci) unlinked to the enzyme structural gene, and not at Bgl-t. These facts, together with information gathered from an examination of the distribution of beta-galactosidase phenotypes among over 100 inbred strains (Breen, Lusis and Paigen 1977), have led us to conclude that the postnatal developmental pattern for liver beta-galactosidase is determined by a set of interacting temporal genes. One of these, Bgl-t, is located within [Bgl], and one or more are separable from [Bgl] by recombination. A possible mode of interaction among the temporal and instructural loci is suggested.  相似文献

Resistance to ectromelia (mousepox) virus-induced mortality was examined in crosses between susceptible DBA/2J, A/J, and BALB/cByJ mice and resistant C57BL/6J and AKR/J mice. Depending on the cross, resistance to mousepox virus was shown to be determined by one or more independently assorting autosomal loci with dominant alleles for resistance in AKR/J and C57BL/6J mice and recessive alleles in A/J, BALB/cByJ, and DBA/2J mice. Scheimpflug imaging has recently been established for in vivo imaging of the anterior eye segment and quantitative determination of lens transparency in the mouse. This enables more effective investigations of cataract formation with the mouse model, including longitudinal studies. In order to enable recognition of disease-associated irregularities, we performed Scheimpflug measurements with the common laboratory inbred lines C57BL/6J, C3HeB/FeJ, FVB/NCrl, BALB/cByJ, and 129/SvJ in a period between 2 and 12 months of age. C57BL/6J mice showed lowest mean lens densities during the test period. Progressive cortical lens opacification was generally observed, with the earliest onset in C57BBL/6J, C3HeB/FeJ, and 129/SvJ, between 2 and 6 months after birth. Moreover, lenses of these inbred lines developed nuclear opacities. Calculated mean lens density significantly increased between 6 and 12 months of age in all inbred strains except 129/SvJ. Lens densities (and the corresponding standard deviations) of FVB/NCrl and 129/SvJ increased most likely because of differences in the genetic background. Albinism as confounder might be excluded since the albino Balb/cByJ mice are more similar to the C57BL/6J or C3Heb/FeJ mice. We further identified strain-specific anterior lens opacities (C57BL/6J) and cloudy corneal lesions (C57BL/6J, FVB/NCrl, and BALB/cByJ) at later stages. In conclusion, our results indicate that there are lifelong opacification processes in the mouse lens. The highest lens transparency and a dark coat color, which prevents interference from light reflections, make mice with the C57BL/6J background most suitable for cataract research by Scheimpflug imaging. We show that lens densitometry by Scheimpflug imaging in mouse eyes can resolve differences of less than 1 %, making it possible to detect differences in cataract development in different mouse strains, even if they are small.  相似文献

We recently have found that apolipoprotein E-deficient (Apoe-/-) mice with the C57BL/6 background develop type 2 diabetes when fed a Western diet for 12 weeks. In the present study we constructed multiple Apoe-/- mouse strains to find diabetes-related phenotyptic variations that might be linked to atherosclerosis development. Evaluation of both early and advanced lesion formation in aortic root revealed that C57BL/6, SWR/J, and SM/J Apoe-/- mice were susceptible to atherosclerosis and that C3H/HeJ and BALB/cJ Apoe-/- mice were relatively resistant. On a chow diet, fasting plasma glucose varied among strains with C3H/HeJ having the highest (171.1 ± 9.7 mg/dl) and BALB/cJ the lowest level (104.0 ± 6.6 mg/dl). On a Western diet, fasting plasma glucose rose significantly in all strains, with C57BL/6, C3H/HeJ and SWR/J exceeding 250 mg/dl. BALB/cJ and C3H/HeJ were more tolerant to glucose loading than the other 3 strains. C57BL/6 was sensitive to insulin while other strains were not. Non-fasting blood glucose was significantly lower in C3H/HeJ and BALB/cJ than C57BL/6, SM/J, and SWR/J. Glucose loading induced the 1st and the 2nd phase of insulin secretion in BALB/cJ, but the 2nd phase was not observed in other strains. Morphological analysis showed that BALB/cJ had the largest islet area (1,421,493 ± 61,244 μm2) and C57BL/6 had the smallest one (747,635 ± 41,798 μm2). This study has demonstrated strain-specific variations in the metabolic and atherosclerotic phenotypes, thus laying the basis for future genetic characterization.  相似文献

Ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) lung injury is characterized by increased pulmonary endothelial permeability and edema, but the genetic basis for this injury is unknown. We utilized an in vivo mouse preparation of unilateral lung I/R to evaluate the genetic determinants of I/R lung injury. An index of pulmonary vascular protein permeability was measured by the ratio of left-to-right lung Evans blue dye of eight inbred mouse strains after 30 min of left lung ischemia and 150 min of reperfusion. The order of strain-specific sensitivity to I/R lung injury was BALB/c < SJL/J < CBA/J < C57BL/6J < 129/J < A/J < C3H/H3J < SWR/J. The reciprocal F1 offspring of the BALB/c and SWR/J progenitor strains had intermediate phenotypes but a differing variance. A similar pattern of right lung Evans blue dye content suggested the presence of contralateral injury because baseline vascular permeability was not different. Lung I/R injury was attenuated by NADPH oxidase inhibition, indicating a role for NADPH oxidase-derived reactive oxygen species (ROS). There was no strain-dependent difference in lung NADPH oxidase expression. Strain-related differences in zymosan-stimulated neutrophil ROS production did not correlate with I/R lung injury in that neutrophil ROS production in SWR/J mice was greater than C57BL/6J but not different from BALB/c mice. These data indicate the presence of a genetic sensitivity to lung I/R injury that involves multiple genes including a maternal-related factor. Although neutrophil-derived ROS production is also modulated by genetic factors, the pattern did not explain the genetic sensitivity to lung I/R injury.  相似文献

Growing evidence suggests that adolescent mice display differential sensitivity to the acute locomotor activating effects of cocaine as compared to adults, but the direction of the difference varies across studies and the reasons are not clear. Few studies have directly examined genetic contributions to age differences in locomotor stimulation from cocaine. The goal of this study was to determine the extent to which reduced stimulation in C57BL/6J adolescents as compared to adults generalizes to other strains. Therefore, we examined male and female mice from four genetically divergent inbred stains (BALB/cByJ, C57BL/6J, DBA/2J and FVB/NJ) at two ages, postnatal day 30 and postnatal day 65. Mice received either saline or cocaine (15 or 30 mg/kg), and then immediately were placed back into their home cages. Locomotor activity was recorded continuously in the home cage by video tracking. Adolescents displayed reduced stimulation as compared to adults for C57BL/6J, BALB/cByJ and female FVB/NJ mice. No age differences were observed for DBA/2J or male FVB/NJ. No main effects of sex were observed. Strain differences in pharmacokinetics, neural development or physiology could contribute to the observed differences between ages across strains. Future comparative studies could discover biological differences between strains that explain age differences in cocaine sensitivity.  相似文献

In order to develop linkage markers for the murine argininosuccinate synthetase locus (Ass-1), we have searched for restriction fragment length polymorphisms in the mouse genome using cloned sequences from the mouse arginosuccinate synthetase structural gene. Five restriction fragment length polymorphisms were found among the recombinant inbred progenitor strains AKR/J, BALB/cByJ, C3H/HeJ, C57BL/6J, C57L/J, DBA/2J, and SWR/J. Of these, four polymorphisms were found to distinguish the SWR/J strain from the other six strains, which all had the same fragment. The fifth polymorphism revealed differences among the progenitor strains for recombinant inbred strain sets AKXL, BXD, and SWXL. The strain distribution pattern for this polymorphism indicated close linkage of Ass-1 to Hc (the fifth component of complement) on proximal mouse chromosome 2 with a recombination fraction of 0.016 and a 95% confidence interval of 0.003 to 0.054. These data place Ass-1 in a syntenic group with the genes Hc, Abl, Fpgs, and Ak-1 whose linkage has been conserved between human chromosome 9q and mouse chromosome 2.  相似文献

Molecular mechanisms of salty taste in mammals are not completely understood. We use genetic approaches to study these mechanisms. Previously, we developed a high-throughput procedure to measure NaCl taste thresholds, which involves conditioning mice to avoid LiCl and then examining avoidance of NaCl solutions presented in 48-h 2-bottle preference tests. Using this procedure, we measured NaCl taste thresholds of mice from 13 genealogically divergent inbred stains: 129P3/J, A/J, BALB/cByJ, C3H/HeJ, C57BL/6ByJ, C57BL/6J, CBA/J, CE/J, DBA/2J, FVB/NJ, NZB/BlNJ, PWK/PhJ, and SJL/J. We found substantial strain variation in NaCl taste thresholds: mice from the A/J and 129P3/J strains had high thresholds (were less sensitive), whereas mice from the BALB/cByJ, C57BL/6J, C57BL/6ByJ, CE/J, DBA/2J, NZB/BINJ, and SJL/J had low thresholds (were more sensitive). NaCl taste thresholds measured in this study did not significantly correlate with NaCl preferences or amiloride sensitivity of chorda tympani nerve responses to NaCl determined in the same strains in other studies. To examine whether strain differences in NaCl taste thresholds could have been affected by variation in learning ability or sensitivity to toxic effects of LiCl, we used the same method to measure citric acid taste thresholds in 4 inbred strains with large differences in NaCl taste thresholds but similar acid sensitivity in preference tests (129P3/J, A/J, C57BL/6J, and DBA/2J). Citric acid taste thresholds were similar in these 4 strains. This suggests that our technique measures taste quality-specific thresholds that are likely to represent differences in peripheral taste responsiveness. The strain differences in NaCl taste sensitivity found in this study provide a basis for genetic analysis of this phenotype.  相似文献

In the last decade several new vaccines against Francisella tularensis, which causes tularemia, have been characterized in animal models. Whereas many of these vaccine candidates showed promise, it remains critical to bridge the preclinical studies to human subjects, ideally by taking advantage of correlates of protection. By combining in vitro intramacrophage LVS replication with gene expression data through multivariate analysis, we previously identified and quantified correlative T cell immune responses that discriminate vaccines of different efficacy. Further, using C57BL/6J mice, we demonstrated that the relative levels of gene expression vary according to vaccination route and between cell types from different organs. Here, we extended our studies to the analysis of T cell functions of BALB/cByJ mice to evaluate whether our approach to identify correlates of protection also applies to a Th2 dominant mouse strain. BALB/cByJ mice had higher survival rates than C57BL/6J mice when they were immunized with suboptimal vaccines and challenged. However, splenocytes derived from differentially vaccinated BALB/cByJ mice controlled LVS intramacrophage replication in vitro in a pattern that reflected the hierarchy of protection observed in C57BL/6J mice. In addition, gene expression of selected potential correlates revealed similar patterns in splenocytes of BALB/cByJ and C57BL/6J mice. The different survival patterns were related to B cell functions, not necessarily to specific antibody production, which played an important protective role in BALB/cByJ mice when vaccinated with suboptimal vaccines. Our studies therefore demonstrate the range of mechanisms that operate in the most common mouse strains used for characterization of vaccines against F. tularensis, and illustrate the complexity necessary to define a comprehensive set of correlates.  相似文献

Arylsulfatase B (arylsulfate sulfohydrolase; EC 3.1.6.1) activities in C57BL/6J, SWR/J, and A/J mouse liver approximate a 5:3:1 ratio. Each enzyme was purified to apparent homogeneity, and the properties of the three purified enzymes were compared. The purified enzyme behaved as a monomer with an apparent molecular weight of 50,000. The purified enzyme catalyzed the hydrolysis of p-nitrocatechol sulfate (pNCS), 4-methylumbelliferyl sulfate (4MUS), and chondroitin-4-sulfate (C4S) heptasaccharide. Purified SWR/J arylsulfatase B possessed a higher relative electrophoretic mobility at pH 4.0 than the A/J and C57BL/6J isozymes, and the SWR/J enzyme was more thermostable than either the C57BL/6J or the A/J enzyme. No differences were observed among the three enzymes with respect to their Michaelis constants for 4MUS and pNCS, isoelectric points, responses to inhibitors, pH optima, or electrophoretic mobilities at pH 8.3. The relative in vivo rates of synthesis of C57BL/6J, A/J, and SWR/J arylsulfatase B were comparable.  相似文献

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder of reproductive age women. The syndrome is caused by a combination of environmental influences and genetic predisposition. Despite extensive efforts, the heritable factors contributing to PCOS development are not fully understood. The objective of this study was to test the hypothesis that genetic background contributes to the development of a PCOS-like reproductive and metabolic phenotype in mice exposed to excess DHEA during the pubertal transition. We tested whether the PCOS phenotype would be more pronounced on the diabetes-prone C57BL/6 background than the previously used strain, BALB/cByJ. In addition, we examined strain-dependent upregulation of the expression of ovarian and extra-ovarian candidate genes implicated in human PCOS, genes containing known strain variants, and genes involved with steroidogenesis or insulin sensitivity. These studies show that there are significant strain-related differences in metabolic response to excess androgen exposure during puberty. Additionally, our results suggest the C57BL/6J strain provides a more robust and uniform experimental platform for PCOS research than the BALB/cByJ strain.  相似文献

The goal of this study was to identify objective criteria that would reliably predict spontaneous death in aged inbred mice. We evaluated male and female AKR/J mice, which die at a relatively young age due to the development of lymphoma, as well as male C57BL/6J and BALB/cByJ mice. Mice were implanted subcutaneously with an identification chip that also allowed remote measurement of body temperature. Temperatures and body weights were measured weekly until spontaneous death occurred or until euthanasia was performed for humane reasons. In AKR/J mice, hypothermia and weight loss began about 4 wk prior to death and increased gradually during that antemortem interval. In C57BL/6J and BALB/cByJ mice, these declines began earlier and were more prolonged prior to death. However, C57BL/6J and BALB/cByJ mice developed a relatively precipitous hypothermia during the 2 wk prior to death. For all 3 strains, the derived composite score of temperature × weight, expressed as a percentage of stable values for each mouse, was similarly informative. These changes in individual and composite measures can signal the need for closer observation or euthanasia of individual mice. Validated markers of clinical decline or imminent death can allow the use of endpoints that reduce terminal distress, do not significantly affect longevity or survival data, and permit timely collection of biologic samples.  相似文献

Arylsulfatase B was purified 4500-fold from liver and kidney of C57BL/6J mice. Hepatic and renal arysulfatase B are apparently determined by a single structural locus; however, posttranslational modification introduces inter- and intratissue microheterogeneity. Partially purified enzyme from C57BL/6J, A/J, C3H/HeJ, and SWR/J mice has similar catalytic properties. The 4500-fold-purified arylsulfatase B from SWR/J and C3H/HeJ mice was more thermostable than that from C57BL/6J and A/J mice, strongly suggesting that the thermostability difference reflects an alteration of the primary structure of the enzyme. Thermal stability of arylsulfatase B was pH dependent and markedly influenced by buffer anion. Variation of thermostability did not appear accountable for the observed activity variation among these strains; however, this possibility cannot be rigorously excluded by presently available data. Surgical implantation of devices into the abdomen of PL/J mice was associated with fatal hemorrhage at 9 to 11 d after surgery. Coagulation profiles were evaluated to determine the underlying cause of this effect. The mean activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) of untreated PL/J mice was significantly higher than that of BALB/cByJ and C57BL/6J strains. The addition of human plasmas deficient in factors VIII, XI, or XII, prekallikrein, or high molecular-weight kininogen corrected the elevated aPTT of PL/J mice, but correction did not occur when factor IX-deficient human plasma was added. When compared to an assigned factor IX activity of 100% for pooled plasma from BALB/cByJ mice, C57BL/6J and PL/J mice revealed percent activities of 67% and 16%, respectively. PL/J mice could represent a new model for the study of pathogenesis and therapy of mild factor IX deficiency that is expressed and becomes clinically apparent secondary to major surgery.  相似文献

A new antigen, detectable on murine erythrocytes by hemagglutination assay with a (BALB/cCrl X SWR/J)F1 anti-B10.D2n/Sn alloantiserum, is described. Among the inbred and congenic mouse strains tested for reactivity with the antiserum, only the immunizing strain, B10.D2, and its congenic resistant partner, C57BL/10 (B10), reacted. Three other C57 strains, C57BL/6J, C57BL/6By, and C57L, were negative for the antigen. F1 hybrids between B10 and BALB/c, an antigen-negative strain, were positive for the antigen indicating that its expression is dominant. Typing of 39 (BALB/c X (BALB/c X B10)F1) and 62 [BALB/c X B10)F1 X BALB/c) backcross mice revealed that a single gene controls expression of the antigen. The literature surrounding rodent models of human anxiety disorders is discrepant concerning which models reflect anxiety-like behavior distinct from general activity and whether different models are measuring the same underlying constructs. This experiment compared the responses of 15 inbred mouse strains (129S1/SvlmJ, A/J, AKR/J, BALB/cByJ, C3H/HeJ, C57BL/6J, C57L/J, CBA/J, CE/J, DBA/2J, FVB/NJ, NZB/B1NJ, PL/J, SJL/J and SWR/J) in three anxiety-like behavioral tasks (light/dark test, elevated zero-maze and open field) to examine whether responses were phenotypically and/or genetically correlated across tasks. Significant strain differences were found for all variables examined. Principal components analyses showed that variables associated with both activity and anxiety-like behaviors loaded onto one factor, while urination and defecation loaded onto another factor. Our findings differ from previous research by suggesting that general activity and anxiety-related behaviors are linked, negatively correlated and cannot easily be dissociated in these assays. However, these findings may not necessarily generalize to other unconditioned anxiety-like behavioral tests.  相似文献
