Intersexual gonads were detected in three clupeiform species, Sardinops melanostictus, Sardinella zunasi and Englaulis japonicus, collected in Tokyo Bay off Yokohama City, Japan, of which appearance rates were 18.2, 34.6 and 33.9 %, respectively. While spermatogenesis proceeded normally in these individuals, previtellogenic stage oocytes were detected outside of the testes in the hermaphrodites, appearing as a single cell or small clusters. The results suggest that these species are non‐functional hermaphrodites. As intersexual gonads have been reported in other clupeiform species collected before significant pollution and/or at sites far from urban influences, such non‐functional hermaphrodites may be common occurrence in the order. However, high rates of hermaphrodite appearance also suggest the possibility that the development of these oocytes were induced by environmental estrogens.  相似文献

A karyometric analysis of the chromosome set of the marine turbellariansMonocelis fusca, M. lineata andParotoplana macrostyla has been carried out. The karyotype of the twoMonocelis species investigated (2n=6) is formed by three pairs of small and similarly sized chromosomes: InM. fusca, chromosome 1 is metacentric, chromosome 2 acrocentric and chromosome 3 is subtelocentric.M. lineata also presents one pair of metacentric chromosomes (chromosome 2), while chromosomes 1 and 3 are submetacentric.P. macrostyla (2n=12) reveals two pairs of large metacentric and four pairs of small chromosomes, three of which are metacentric, whereas the last is subtelocentric.  相似文献

A new karyotype for blind mole rats was recorded in Tunceli province in Eastern Turkey. The karyotype contained 44 chromosomes, including 13 biarmed pairs, 7 acrocentric pairs, and one heteromorphic pair with a submetacentric and an acrocentric homologue in the autosomal complement (FNa=69). The X chromosome was submetacentric and the Y chromosome medium-sized subtelocentric (FN=73). Distinct dark centromeric C-bands were observed on most of the biarmed and three pairs of the acrocentric autosomes. The NORs were detected on short arms of three subtelocentric pairs and one acrocentric pair of autosomes. The diploid number of chromosomes and the karyotype characteristics observed are obviously unique among hitherto studied populations of blind mole rats and the complement can be evaluated as a new chromosome race of Nannospalax xanthodon. The distribution ranges of individual chromosome races of the species recorded in Eastern Anatolia are revised and possible interracial hybridization is discussed in respect of the finding of a new race.  相似文献

The karyotype and major ribosomal sites as revealed using silver staining of Anatolian leuciscine cyprinid fish Acanthobrama marmid were studied. The diploid chromosome number was invariably 2n = 50. Karyotype consisted of eight pairs of metacentric, 13 pairs of submetacentric and four pairs of subtelocentric to acrocentric chromosomes. The largest chromosome pair of the complement was subtelo-to acrocentric characteristically, which is a characteristic cytotaxonomic marker for representatives of the cyprinid lineage Leuciscinae. The nucleolar organizer regions (NORs) were detected in the telomeres of two pairs of medium sized submeta-to subtelocentric chromosomes. No heteromorphic sex chromosomes were found. The karyotype pattern of A. marmid is nearly identical to that found in most other representatives of the Eurasian leuciscine cyprinids, while the multiple NOR phenotype appears to be more derived as opposed to a uniform one, ubiquitous in this group.  相似文献

The karyotype and DNA content of four lizardfish species (family Synodontidae), that is, Saurida elongata, Synodus ulae, Synodus hoshinonis and Trachinocephalus myops, were analyzed. The karyotype of T. myops significantly differed from that of the other three species having diploid chromosome number of 48 with mainly acrocentric chromosomes and the ZZ-ZW sex chromosome system. The chromosome number of male T. myops was 2n=26, while that of female T. myops was 2n=27. The karyotype consisted of 11 pairs of metacentrics, one pair of acrocentrics and, in addition, two large metacentrics in the male and a single large metacentric, a distinctly small subtelocentric and a microchromosome in the female. C-banding demonstrated that in the female the subtelocentric chromosome and the microchromosome were heterochromatic. The karyotype of T. myops was thought to be derived from a 48 chromosome type synodontid fish through the involvement of Robertsonian rearrangement; the rearrangement of the sex chromosomes proceeded during karyotype evolution. Among the chromosomes, the large metacentrics were determined to be neo-Z (a fusion of the original Z and an autosome), the microchromosomes the W1 (originally W), and the subtelocentric chromosomes the W2 (derived from an autosome pair). The miniaturization of W1 and W2 chromosomes and their heterochromatinization suggested that sex chromosomes in this species have been already highly differentiated. The findings on DNA content implied that the karyotype of T. myops evolved by centric fusion events without loss in DNA amount.  相似文献

The genus Piabucus is the only member of the subfamily Iguanodectinae found in the Pantanal of Mato Grosso State, where it is represented by Piabucus melanostomus. P. melanostomus from the Paraguay and Bento Gomes Rivers of the Pantanal wetlands were analysed using conventional and molecular cytogenetic techniques to cytogenetically characterise the species and broaden the knowledge of the subfamily. The results indicated no sex-related heteromorphisms. The diploid number for the species was 2n = 50 chromosomes, which were divided into six metacentric, eight submetacentric, 24 subtelocentric, and 12 acrocentric with a fundamental number (FN) of 88. Heterochromatin was visualised using the C-banding technique, which showed that it was mainly distributed in the centromeric and pericentromeric region of most chromosomes, but larger blocks were observed on the long arms of large subtelocentric chromosomes (8, 9, 10, 13, and 20 pairs). Nucleolar organising regions (Ag-NOR) were observed in the p-subterminal region of one subtelocentric chromosome pair (9) with a remarkable size polymorphism between homologues in individuals from the Paraguay River, which was confirmed using the FISH technique with 18S rDNA. In this population, in all individuals studied, one of the homologous shows block considerably larger. The karyotype was compared with those of other subfamilies considered basal in Characidae, according to morphological data.  相似文献

The karyotype of the snow sculpin Myoxocephalus brandti, 2n = 44, NF = 46, from Peter the Great Bay was studied. Two-armed chromosomes were presented by one pair of metacentric chromosomes of medium size; one-armed chromosomes included two pairs of large subtelocentric chromosomes and a pair of large acrocentric chromosomes. Ag-NOR-staining in the telomere vicinity revealed nucleolus-organizing regions in one metacentric chromosome and in one medium size acrocentric chromosome in one of the fishes, in two homological small acrocentric chromosomes in three fishes, and in one acrocentric chromosome of average size in six fishes. No difference between the male and female karyotypes and any type of variability was revealed. The karyotypes of the snow sculpin M. brandti and the frog sculpin M. stelleri were compared. Their distinctions and similarities were displayed.Original Russian Text Copyright ¢ 2005 by Biologiya Morya, Ryazanova.  相似文献

The karyotype and the C-banding pattern in two species ofHexastylis andAsarum epigynum were analysed in detail, and the results obtained were compared with those of the other species ofAsarum, Asiasarum andHeterotropa previously reported. The present results were partially different from the previous reports related to the karyotypes of these species. The karyotype observed in two species ofHexastylis (2n=26) was represented by ten pairs of metacentric chromosomes and three pairs of small subtelocentric chromosomes, which is very similar to that ofAsiasarum in eastern Asia. The C-banding patterns ofHexastylis andAsiasarum, however, were clearly different from each other. A striking difference was found in one of the three pairs of small subtelocentric chromosomes. A Formosan speciesAsarum epigynum had the somatic chromosome number 2n=12 and a highly asymmetrical karyotype composed of mainly subtelocentric chromosomes. These karyological features were remarkably different from those of the other groups inAsarum s.l.  相似文献

We analysed karyotypes of five taxa of the rodent generaOecomys andNectomys, trapped in 14 localities in an area ranging from 8° to 29°S on Brazilian territory.Oecomys cf.concolor, collected in the Amazon and in two localities of the Cerrado biome, showed a 2n=60 karyotype constituted by a pair of large subtelocentric chromosomes, a small metacentric pair and 27 acrocentric pairs. The X chromosome was a large submetacentric and a subtelo-submetacentric, the morphology of the latter showing variable C-banding patterns. In all three localities the Y chromosome was a medium size heterochromatic acrocentric. Two individuals from the Cerrado had a heterochromatic acrocentric B-chromosome.Oecomys cf.bicolor presented two cytotypes, 2n=80 in the specimens from the Cerrado biome and 2n=82 in individuals trapped in the Amazon. The 2n=80 cytotype 1 showed a large subtelocentric, 22 biarmed pairs (medium to small) and 16 acrocentric autosomal pairs. The karyotype of the 2n=82 cytotype 2 is constituted by 15 biarmed chromosomes (median to small) and 25 acrocentric pairs with heterochromatic blocks at pericentromeric regions. The sexual pairs were the same (large submetacentric X and median acrocentric Y) in both cytotypes. InO. cf.concolor and in both cytotypes ofO. cf.bicolor the nucleolar organizer regions were observed in 1-3 pairs, located in the short arms.Nectomys genus presented two cytotypes, 2n=52–55 (N. rattus, with 0–3 biarmed heterochromatic accessory chromosomes) and 2n=56–59 (N. squamipes, bearing 0–3 biarmed, heterochromatic, B-chromosomes). These 2 cytotypes occupy disjunct regions of South America, with overlapping areas in the Brazilian states of Pernambuco, Bahia, and Mato Grosso do Sul.  相似文献

The karyotype and other chromosomal markers as revealed by C-banding and Ag-staining were studied in Lutjanus quinquelineatus and L. kasmira (Lutjanidae, Perciformes). While in latter species, the karyotype was invariably composed of 48 acrocentric chromosomes in both sexes, in L. quinquelineatus the female karyotype had exclusively 48 acrocentric chromosomes (2n = 48) but that of the male consisted of one large metacentric and 46 acrocentric chromosomes (2n = 47). The chromosomes in the first meiotic division in males showed 22 bivalents and one trivalent, which was formed by an end-to-end association and a chiasmatic association. Multiple sex chromosome system of X1X1X2X2/X1X2Y type resulting from single Robertsonian fusion between the original Y chromosome and an autosome was hypothesized to produce neo-Y sex chromosome. The multiple sex chromosome system of L. quinquelineatus appears to be at the early stage of the differentiation. The positive C-banded heterochromatin was situated exclusively in centromeric regions of all chromosomes in both species. Similarly, nucleolus organizer region sites were identified in the pericentromeric region of one middle-sized pair of chromosomes in both species. The cellular DNA contents were the same (3.3 pg) between the sexes and among this species and related species.  相似文献

The karyotype of one female Brachyteles arachinoides (E. Geoffroy, 1806) was studied. The specimen exhibited 62 chromosomes, which could be arranged in three clearly distinguishable groups: the first one including 5 pairs of subtelocentric chromosomes, the second one including 8 pairs of metacentric and submetacentric chromosomes and the third one including 18 pairs of acrocentric chromosomes. The X chromosome pair could not be identified. This study was supported by grants from CNPq (SIP 04/011), Brazil.  相似文献

Polyploid gibel carp, Carassius auratus gibelio, is an excellent model system for evolutionary genetics owing to its specific genetic background and reproductive modes. Comparative karyotype studies were performed in three cultured clones, one artificially manipulated group, and one mated group between two clones. Both the clones A and P had 156 chromosomes in their karyotypes, with 36 metacentric, 54 submetacentric, 36 subtelocentric, 24 acrocentric, and six small chromosomes. The karyotype of clone D contained 162 chromosomes, with 42 metacentric, 54 submetacentric, 36 subtelocentric, 24 acrocentric, and six small chromosomes. All the three clones had six small chromosomes in common. Group G, being originated from the clone D by artificial manipulation, showed supernumerary microchromosomes or chromosomal fragments, in addition to the normal chromosome complement that was identical to the clone D. The offspring from mating between clones D and A had 159 chromosomes. Comparing with the clone A, the DA offspring showed three extra metacentric chromosomes. In addition, variable RAPD fingerprint patterns and unusual SCAR marker inheritance were, respectively, detected among individuals of artificial group G and in the mated DA offspring. Both the chromosome and molecular findings suggest that genome reshuffling might have occurred by manipulation or mating of the clones.  相似文献

Analysis of Giemsa-stained metaphase plates of plerocercoids ofSchistocephalus solidus revealed the mode diploid number of chromosomes for this species as 2n=18. Chromosome pairs 1, 5, 6, 8 and 9 are metacentric, pairs 2, 4 and 7 are subtelocentric, and pair 3 is subtelocentric to acrocentric. The karyotype is characterised by mean absolute chromosome length between 1.9 and 5.9 m and a total chromosome length of the haploid complement of 32 m. A comparison with other known karyotypes of related species of pseudophyllidean cestodes was made.  相似文献

Karyotypic and cytogenetic characteristics of catfish Harttia carvalhoi (Paraíba do Sul River basin, S?o Paulo State, Brazil) were investigated using differential staining techniques (C-banding, Ag-staining) and fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) with 18S and 5S rDNA probes. The diploid chromosome number of females was 2n = 52 and their karyotype was composed of nine pairs of metacentric, nine pairs of submetacentric, four pairs of subtelocentric and four pairs of acrocentric chromosomes. The diploid chromosome number of males was invariably 2n = 53 and their karyotype consisted of one large unpaired metacentric, eight pairs of metacentric, nine pairs of submetacentric, four pairs of subtelocentric, four pairs of acrocentric plus two middle-sized acrocentric chromosomes. The differences between female and male karyotypes indicated the presence of a sex chromosome system of XX/XY1Y2 type, where the X is the largest metacentric and Y1 and Y2 are the two additional middle-sized acrocentric chromosomes of the male karyotype. The major rDNA sites as revealed by FISH with an 18S rDNA probe were located in the pericentromeric region of the largest pair of acrocentric chromosomes. FISH with a 5S rDNA probe revealed two sites: an interstitial site located in the largest pair of acrocentric chromosomes, and a pericentromeric site in a smaller metacentric pair of chromosomes. Translocations or centric fusions in the ancestral 2n = 54 karyotype is hypothesized for the origin of such multiple sex chromosome systems where females are fixed translocation homozygotes whereas males are fixed translocation heterozygotes. The available cytogenetic data for representatives of the genus Harttia examined so far indicate large kayotype diversity.  相似文献

For the first time, we studied the karyotype of the flathead sculpin Megalocottus platycephalus taeniopterus (Kner, 1868) from Vostok Bay of the Sea of Japan. The karyotype is stable: 2n = 42 (2 metacentric, 2 submeta-subtelocentric, 30 subtelocentric, and 8 acrocentric chromosomes), NF = 44 + 2. The nucleolar organizers (NOs) were identified using Ag banding in two pairs of chromosomes: in the telomeric parts of the short arm of the medium-size subtelocentric chromosome and the long arm of the large acrocentric chromosome. Variations in the number of nucleolar organizer chromosomes and in the number of NO staining blocks were found. Comparison of the karyotypes of M. p. taeniopterus and previously studied M. p. platycephalus (Pallas, 1814) from the northern Sea of Okhotsk revealed their similarity in the number and morphology of chromosomes and the number of chromosome arms and difference between the subspecies in the number and location of NO, which allows their discrimination.  相似文献

The karyotypes of northern Dolly Varden and white char, sympatrically inhabiting the Kamchatka River basin, were studied. The karyotype of Dolly Varden was stable: 2n= 78 andNF= 98 + 2, while in white char, polymorphism and mosaicism for the chromosome number were revealed: 2n= 76–79, NF= 98 + 2. Using a routine chromosome staining technique, the karyotype of white char (2n= 78) was shown to be identical to that of Dolly Varden. In both karyotypes, similar sets of marker chromosomes were present: two pairs of submetacentric (SM), one pair of submeta-subtelocentric (SM-ST), one pair of large acrocentric (A), and one pair of large subtelocentric (ST) chromosomes. However, the karyotypes of Dolly Varden and white char differed in the number and location of nucleolus organizer regions (NORs). In Dolly Varden, single NORs located in the telomeric regions of the marker SM-ST chromosomes were observed. In white char, NORs were multiple and located both in the telomeric regions of the marker SM-ST chromosomes and on the short and long arms of large ST chromosomes. The identical marker chromosomes indicate considerable phylogenetic relatedness between Dolly Varden and white char from the Kamchatka River basin. Variation in NORs provides evidence for the reproductive isolation of these chars and their species status.  相似文献

This study deals with the karyotype of the flathead sculpin Megalocottus platycephalus platycephalus (Pallas, 1814) (family Cottidae) from Odyan Bay of the Sea of Okhotsk. The karyotype is stable: 2n = 42 (2 metacentric, 2 submeta-subtelocentric, 30 subtelocentric, and 8 acrocentric chromosomes), NF = 44 + 2. The nucleolar organizers (NOs) were identified using Ag-banding in the telomere parts of the short arms of two large subtelocentric chromosomes. Variations in the number of nucleolar organizer chromosomes and in the number of NO-staining blocks were found. Comparison of the karyotype of M. p. platycephalus with the karyotypes of previously studied species of the genus Myoxocephalus from the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk revealed their significant similarity in the main features and difference in the number and localization of NORs.  相似文献

A procedure for obtaining G-bands on chromosomes of mammals is outlined. The procedure was utilized in an investigation of the idiogram and banding pattern of the mitotic chromosomes of the cotton rat, Sigmodon arizonae. The diploid number of this species is 22, and each pair of homologues is easily separated on the basis of size, centromeric position, and banding pattern. The autosomes are represented by four pairs of large submetacentric chromosomes, three pairs of medium to small submetacentric chromosomes, two pairs of large subtelocentric chromosomes and one pair of small acrocentric chromosomes. The X chromosome is acrocentric and averages from 5.42% to 5.46% of the haploid female complement. The Y chromosome is a minute acrocentric and easily separated from the smallest acrocentric autosome. The usefulnes of Sigmodon arizonae as a laboratory animal for cytogenetic studies is substantiated.  相似文献

Karyotypes and cellular DNA contents of three species of the family Cottidae viz.Icelus cataphractus, Gymnocanthus intermedius andAlcichthys alcicornis were analyzed. Structural modifications within the family were supposedly by Robertsonian translocations. The diploid chromosome numbers were determined to be 48 inAlcichthys alcicornis, 44 inGymnocanthus intermedius and 40 inIcelus cataphractus. The DNA contents ranged from 1.46 to 1.50pg/cell in the three species. The karyotype ofIcelus cataphractus is unique in having the smallest chromosome number (2n = 40) and 14 large-sized chromosomes. From the chromosome number and the existence of some large chromosome pairs, Robertsonian translocations seem to have occurred frequently inIcelus cataphractus andGymnocanthus intermedius.  相似文献
