New synonyms,combinations, and faunistic records of Western Palaearctic planthoppers of the family Issidae (Homoptera,Fulgoroidea)

Within the frame of the study of the Western Palaearctic Issidae, two generic and four specific synonyms are established: Logvinenkoana Gnezdilov, 2002 is placed as a synonym for Anatolodus Dlabola, 1982; Falcidiopsis Kusnezov, 1930, for Kervillea Bergevin, 1918; Hysteropterum ignavum Dlabola, 1981, for Aeluropsis karabachica Logvinenko, 1975; Hysteropterum alciranum Gnezdilov, 2003, for Hysteropterum alicantium Dlabola, 1986; Hysteropterum tangirum Matsumura, 1910, for Hysteropterum guadarramense Melichar, 1906, and Mycterodus syriacus Gnezdilov, 2008, for Mycterodus bicornutus Dlabola, 1986. Subgenus Corymbius Gnezdilov, 2002 is upgraded to genus. 12 new generic combinations are established: Aeluropsis karabachica Logvinenko, 1975, A. midica Logvinenko, 1975, Hysteropterum pictifrons Melichar, 1906 and H. transcaucasicum Melichar, 1914 are transferred to the genus Anatolodus Dlabola, 1982; Bubastia carinata Logvinenko, 1978 and B. parva Logvinenko, 1977, to the genus Inflatodus Dlabola, 1982; Quadrastylum tubulatum Dlabola, 1989, to the genus Rhissolepus Emeljanov, 1971; Hysteropterum laminatum Horváth, 1911, to the genus Libanissum Dlabola, 1980; Hysteropterum drahamense Linnavuori, 1965, to the genus Bergevinium Gnezdilov, 2003; Conosimus ochaninei Puton, 1890, to the genus Quadriva Ghauri, 1965; Hysteropterum guadarramense Melichar, 1906, to the genus Tingissus Gnezdilov, 2003; Agalmatium corsicum Dlabola, 1982, to the genus Fieberium Dlabola, 1980. New faunistic records are given for 18 species.

对亚草叶蝉属进行系统研究并首次报道其在中国分布,共记述5种：E. acarifer (Lethierry),E. hilaris (Melichar),E. magnus Mitjaev,E. medius (Mulsant & Rey) 和E. pratensis Emeljanov,其中E. hilaris (Melichar) 和E. medius (Mulsant & Rey) 为中国新记录种。文中提供了分种检索表和雄性外生殖器特征图,并首次记述和提供雌性生殖器特征。     

Revision of the tribe Colpopterini Gnezdilov, 2003 (Homoptera, Fulgoroidea: Nogodinidae)

The tribe Colpopterini Gnezdilov, 2003 is revised, upgraded to the subfamily Colpopterinae, stat. n., and transferred from the family Issidae Spinola to Nogodinidae Melichar. The tribe Colpopterini is recorded from the Afrotropical Region for the first time—Bumerangum deckerti gen. et sp. n. is described from Southern Africa. The tribe Colpopterini s. str. comprises 6 genera: Bumerangum gen. n., Caudibeccus Gnezdilov et O’Brien, 2008, Colpoptera Burmeister, 1835, Jamaha Gnezdilov et O’Brien, 2008, Neocolpoptera Dozier, 1931, and Ugoa Fennah, 1945. The genera Cheiloceps Uhler, 1895, Tempsa Stål, 1866, Eupilis Walker, 1857, and Gabaloeca Walker, 1870 are transferred to the tribe Issini Spinola of the family Issidae. Issus longulus Lethierry, 1890 is transferred to the genus Colpoptera Burmeister. A key to the genera and a list of the species of the tribe Colpopterini are given. Morphological data confirming independent evolution of similar ovipositor types in the families Issidae and Nogodinidae are provided. The term “styletization” is suggested for describing the transformation of the ovipositor from a rounded to an elongate type.     

New and little known planthoppers of the subfamily Ommatidiotinae (Homoptera,Fulgoroidea, Caliscelidae) from Madagascar and South Asia

Cano merinus gen. et sp. n., belonging to the tribe Augilini Baker, is described from Madagascar. Tubilustrium typicum Distant, 1916 is transferred from the tribe Ommatidiotini Fieber to the tribe Augilini. Lasonia kirkaldyi Melichar, 1903 is transferred from the family Issidae to the family Caliscelidae, tribe Adenissini Dlabola. A key to the tribes of the subfamily Ommatidiotinae is provided.     

A faunistic study on the leafhoppers of northwestern Iran (Hemiptera,Cicadellidae)

The leafhopper fauna of northwestern Iran: Azarbaijan-e-Sharghi, Azarbaijan-e-Gharbi and Ardabil provinces is listed from previously published records and from our current work. Sixty-nine species are included with four species (Mogangella straminea Dlabola, 1957, Doratura stylata (Boheman, 1847), Macrosteles sordidipennis (Stål, 1858) and Psammotettix seriphidii Emeljanov, 1962) listed as new for Iran and Balclutha punctata (Fabricius, 1775), as a new record for the region. A distribution map of the species in northwestern Iran is given.     

The first record of <Emphasis Type="Italic">Callodictya kazeruna</Emphasis> Dlabola (Hemiptera,Auchenorrhyncha, Fulgoroidea: Dictyopharidae) from Turkey

Callodictya kazeruna (Dlabola, 1986) described from southern Iran is recorded here for the first time from Eastern Anatolia in Turkey. A key to the two known species of the genus Callodictya Melichar, 1912 is given.     

Nomenclatural changes in Cicadellidae: Typhlocybinae?and Delphacidae (Homoptera)

New replacement names are proposed for seven species of the subfamily Typhlocybinae; one new synonym is recognized in the family Delphacidae. The following changes are proposed: Empoasca (Empoasca) angustata nom.nov. for Empoasca angusta Linnavuori & DeLong (not Dworakowska); Empoasca (Empoasca) chilensis nom.nov. for Empoasca diversa Linnavuori & DeLong (not Vilbaste); Austroasca verdensis nom.nov. for Empoasca artemisiae Lindberg (not Lethierry); Kropka vidanoi Dworakowska for Erythroneura unipunctata Dlabola (not Cerutti); Zyginella vietnamica nom. nov. for Zyginella melichari Dworakowska (not Kirkaldy); Eupteryx (Eupteryx) dlabolai nom. nov. for Eupteryx octonotata Dlabola (not Hardy); Baaora ahmedi nom. nov. for Baaora spinosa (Ahmed) (not Beamer); Paradelphacodes insolitus Dmitriev is synonymized with Paradelphacodes gvosdevi (Mitjaev), syn. nov.     

New and little known species of the planthopper genus <Emphasis Type="Italic">Mycterodus</Emphasis> Spinola (Homoptera,Issidae) from the Eastern Mediterranean

Three new species of the genus Mycterodus Spinola are described: M. phoenicicus sp. n. from Lebanon and M. syriacus sp. n. from Syria, both belong to the subgenus Aegaeum Gnezdilov, and M. marki sp. n. from Turkey, belongs to the subgenus Aconosimus Dlabola. Figures of the described species and of the holotype of M. anaticeps Puton are given. M. efesicus Dlabola is for the first time recorded from Greece (Samos I.); M. alatus Logvinenko, M. caucasicus (Melichar), and M. johannesi Gnezdilov &; Drosopoulos are new to the fauna of Turkey.     

黄瓢蜡蝉属分类研究(半翅目,蜡蝉总科,瓢蜡蝉科)

对东洋区黄瓢蜡蝉属Flavina Stal(半翅目,蜡蝉总科,瓢蜡蝉科)的种类进行了分类研究,描记2新种,即尖胸黄瓢蜡蝉Flavina acuta sp nov.(Laos,Vietnam)和四刺黄瓢蜡蝉Flavina quadrispina sp.nov.(Thailand).新种模式标本保存在Bernice P.Bishop Museum,Honolulu,Hawaii,USA.     

中国圆顶瓢蜡蝉属回顾及一新种描记（半翅目：蜡蝉总科：瓢蜡蝉科）

对中国圆顶瓢蜡蝉属Thabena Stl,1861进行了分类回顾,共有4种:海南圆顶瓢蜡蝉T.hainanensis(Ran & Liang,2006)(中国海南)、兰坪圆顶瓢蜡蝉T.lanpingensis sp.nov.(中国云南)、黎桃圆顶瓢蜡蝉T.litaoensis(Yang,1994)(中国台湾、海南)和云南圆顶瓢蜡蝉T.yunnanensis(Ran & Liang,2006)(中国云南)。对其中2个种兰坪圆顶瓢蜡蝉T.lanpingensis和黎桃圆顶瓢蜡蝉T.litaoensis进行了描记或重新描记,绘制了特征图。提供了中国圆顶瓢蜡蝉属全部已知种的检索表。     

中国瓢蜡蝉科昆虫区系分析(半翅目:蜡蝉总科)

为了解中国瓢蜡蝉科昆虫的区系结构及起源特性,本文对中国已知瓢蜡蝉科昆虫3族45属187种进行区系分析,结果表明:中国瓢蜡蝉科昆虫在世界动物地理区划中计3式区系型;东洋界区系型呈现主导优势,计179种,占总数95.72%;中国动物地理区划中计14式区系型,其中华南区系型所占比重最大,计121种,占总数64.71%;华南区成为现生中国瓢蜡蝉的集中与分化中心,并与华中区的联系最强;中国瓢蜡蝉科昆虫具有较强的北方起源性,这与大陆漂移和板块运动密切相关,且燕山运动等地质事件造就了该类昆虫属种水平的分异与演化;该科族级水平演化关系为:瓢蜡蝉族Issini Spinola,1839最为原始,铲头瓢蜡蝉族Parahiraciini ChengYang,1991次之,球瓢蜡蝉族Hemisphaeriini Melichar,1906最为进化;通过聚类分析,中国瓢蜡蝉科昆虫区系可分成3个区:即A区(东北区+华北区+蒙新区)、B区(华南区+华中区+西南区)和C区(青藏区),这可能与中国动物地理区划复杂的地理环境以及瓢蜡蝉自身飞行能力较差等原因相关。     

A new genus and a new species of lanternflies of the subfamily Cladyphinae (Homoptera,Fulgoridae)

Sclerodepsa granulosa gen. et sp. n., a new genus and a new species of lanternflies (Fulgoridae) of the subfamily Cladyphinae, is described from Brazil and Paraguay, based on the brachypterous adult and the 4th-instar larva (penultimate instar). Its relationship with Dichopterinae is confirmed, and its similarity to Issidae and Callscelldae is shown and discussed.     

Neotapirissus gen. nov. of the tribe Issini (Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha: Issidae) from Hainan Island

Neotapirissus gen. nov. , in the tribe Issini (Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha: Issidae), is described from China, and type species Neotapirissus reticularis sp. nov. (China: Hainan) is described and illustrated. The female internal reproductive organs of the new species are also described and illustrated. The new genus is compared to the superficially similar genus Tapirissus Gnezdilov. The morphological diversity of the issids distributed in Hainan Island is discussed briefly.     

Genus Microsternus Lewis (1887) from China,with description of a new genus Neosternus from Asia (Coleoptera,Erotylidae, Dacnini)

This work treats species of the genus Microsternus Lewis, 1887 from Asia and North America. A new genus is described: Neosternus (type species Microsternus higonius Lewis, 1887). A new species is described: Microsternus pengzhongi. A new synonym is provided: Microsternus tricolor taiwanicus Nakane (=Microsternus tricolor Lewis). Three species previously placed in Microsternus Lewis, 1887 are transferred to Neosternus resulting in the following three new combinations: Neosternus higonius (Lewis, 1887), Neosternus taiwanus (Chûjô, 1976), and Neosternus hisamatsui (Nakane, 1981).     

The planthopper family Achilixiidae (Homoptera, Fulgoroidea): a synopsis with a revision of the genus Achilixius

Abstract The planthopper family Achilixiidae (Homoptera, Auchenorrhyncha, Fulgoroidea) is reviewed and the Oriental genus Achilixius Muir revised. As here defined, the family consists of two genera: Bobaiotes Muir ( Muirilixius Metcalf is here made a junior synonym, syn.n.) from the Neotropical region and Achilixius from the Oriental region. Sixteen Achilixius species are described or redescribed from Philippines, Sabah and Sulawesi. Females of undescribed species are also reported from the Solomon Islands and New Guinea. The following new species of Achilixius are described: Bakeri, irigae and mayoyae from the Philippines: fennahi and muiri from Sabah; minahassae, danaumoati, torautensis, fasciata, kolintangi, muajati and morowali from Sulawesi. A key to males is given. The following new combinations are established: Bebaiotes banksi (Metcalf), B.guianesus (Fennah) and B.nigrigaster Muir restored to its original combination, comb.rev. The relationship of Achilixiidae to other fulgoroid families is discussed.     

“Issidisation” of Fulgoroid planthoppers (Homoptera, Fulgoroidea) as a case of parallel adaptive radiation

The term “issidisation” is proposed to describe the formation of the specific box-like body shape (including elytra) in several families of planthoppers (Acanaloniidae, Caliscelidae, Issidae, Nogodinidae, and Tropiduchidae). Parallel radiation resulting from adaptation to semi-arid and arid conditions is considered the cause of issidisation. The possibly rapid rate of evolution of higher Fulgoroidea and especially Issidae is discussed. Pyrogenic renewal of Mediterranean-type communities is hypothesized to be the cause of sympatric speciation in the Mediterranean insects.     

Improved tribal delimitation of the subfamily Dictyopharinae and description of new genera and new species (Homoptera,Fulgoroidea, Dictyopharidae)

Ten new genera, five new subgenera, and five new species are described in the family Dictyopharidae. Three generic names are synonymized. A new name is proposed for the generic homonym. Dictyophara kazeruna Dlabola is transferred to the genus Callodictya Melichar. The genus Sinodictya Matsumura, with the type species Sinodictya tukana Matsumura, is redescribed. A new key to the tribes of the subfamily Dictyopharinae is given. The composition and characters of the tribes Taosini and Lappidini are revised. All the genera of the subfamily Dictyopharinae are listed according to their tribal position. New records are given for some interesting species.
