Aims: To compare the metrics and surgical outcome when using Infiniti AquaLase and NeoSoniX cataract removal modalities. Methods: This prospective clinical study involved 50 patients with bilateral cataracts and lens removal using AquaLase in the right eye and NeoSoniX in the left eye. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), endothelial cell density and pachymetry were evaluted pre- and postoperatively. Statistical analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon Signed- Rank Test. Results: Preoperative mean pachymetry was 569 +/- 31 mu in the right eye (RE) and 560 +/- 37 mu in the left eye (LE), mean endothelial cell density 2744 +/- 418 cells/mm(2) (RE) and 2730 +/- 472 cells/mm(2) (LE). One week after operation pachymetry was 576 +/- 52 mu (RE) and 583 +/- 72 mu (LE) and endothelial cell density 2388 +/- 586 cells/mm(2) (RE) and 2463 +/- 615 cells/mm(2) (LE). One month after surgery pachymetry was 556 +/- 43 mu (RE) and 559 +/- 44 mu (LE) and endothelial cell density 2368 +/- 52 cells/mm(2) (RE) and 2495 +/- 548 cells/mm(2) (LE). BCVA improved in all eyes and was 0.8 or better on the first postoperative day. Conclusions: Both the NeosoniX and AquaLase minimize intraoperative damage to ocular structures.  相似文献

Purpose

To compare the anterior chamber depth (ACD), keratometry (K) and astigmatism measurements taken by IOLMaster and Pentacam HR in normal and high myopic (HM) eyes.

Design

A prospective observational case series.

Methods

Sixty-six normal eyes and 59 HM eyes underwent ACD, keratometry and astigmatism measurements with both devices. Axial length (AL) was measured on IOLMaster. The interdevice agreement was evaluated using the Bland-Altman analysis and paired t-test. The correlations between age and AL & ACD were analyzed. Vector analysis was used to compare astigmatism measurements.

Results

The ACD from IOLMaster and Pentacam HR was different for the normal group (P = 0.003) but not for the HM group (P = 0.280). IOLMaster demonstrated higher steep K and mean K values than Pentacam HR for both normal and HM groups (P<0.001 for all). IOLMaster also have higher flat K values for the HM groups (P<0.001) but were statistically equivalent with Pentacam HR for the normal group (P = 0.119) IOLMaster and Pentacam HR were different in astigmatism measurements for the normal group but were statistically equivalent for the HM group. For the normal group, age was negatively correlated with AL, IOLMaster ACD and Pentacam HR ACD (r = -0.395, P = 0.001; r = -0.715, P < 0.001; r = -0.643, P < 0.001). For the HM group, age was positively correlated with AL but negatively correlated with IOLMaster ACD and Pentacam HR ACD (r = 0.377, P = 0.003; r = -0.392, P = 0.002; r = -0.616, P < 0.001).

Conclusions

The IOLMaster and Pentacam HR have significant difference in corneal power measurements for both normal and HM groups. The two instruments also differ in ACD and astigmatism measurement for the normal group. Therefore, a single instrument is recommended for studying longitudinal changes in anterior segment biometric measurements. Age should be considered as an influencing factor for both AL and ACD values in the normal and HM group.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo assess associations between the aqueous humour concentration of interleukin IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10 and IL-12p, tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and axial length in eyes with cataract.MethodsThe hospital-based investigation included patients who underwent cataract surgery between March 2014 and April 2014. Using aqueous humour collected at the start of cataract surgery, the interleukins IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10 and IL-12p, TNF-α and VEGF were examined using a cytometric bead array. Axial length was determined by partial coherence laser interferometry (IOL Master).ResultsThe study included 33 patients with cataract (33 eyes) with a mean age of 69.2±10.8 years (range:50–87 years) and a mean axial length of 24.7±1.9 mm (range:22.6–31.5 mm). Lower aqueous concentration of VEGF was significantly associated with longer axial length (VEGF concentration (pg/mL) = -5.12 x Axial Length (mm) + 163; correlation coefficient r = -0.41; P<0.001) and more myopic refractive error (VEGF concentration (pg/mL) = 1.27xspherical equivalent (diopters)+44.8; r = 0.383; P = 0.002). The aqueous concentrations of all other substances were not significantly (all P>0.10) associated with axial length or refractive error.ConclusionsHigher intravitreal concentrations of VEGF were measured in eyes with a longer axial length, while the intraocular concentrations of IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12p and TNF-α were not correlated with axial length. The lower concentration of VEGF in axially elongated eyes may be one of the reasons for the lower prevalence of age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy in myopic eyes.  相似文献

Eyes of young chickens show diurnal oscillations in axial length and choroidal thickness that are out of phase. In eyes responding to myopic defocus induced by prior form deprivation, the two rhythms shift into phase. In order to elucidate the possible role for these rhythms in ocular growth regulation, they were measured under visual conditions that altered ocular growth rate. (1) Form deprivation to myopic defocus. Eyes of chicks were monocularly deprived for 5 days. Diffusers were removed. (2) Myopic defocus to hyperopic defocus. Eyes wore positive lenses for 6 days; lenses were removed. (3) Hyperopic to myopic defocus. Eyes wore negative lenses for 5 days; lenses were removed. Eyes were measured using A-scan ultrasonography at 6-h intervals for 24 h over various cycles. The rhythms shift into phase in eyes slowing their growth in response to myopic defocus in all three conditions. This shift precedes by 1 day the decrease in growth in both lens conditions, and is concomitant with it in recovering eyes. There is a positive correlation between the phase difference and growth rate. In conclusion, there is a consistent association between growth rate and phase relationships of the rhythms in axial elongation and choroidal thickness.  相似文献

We studied the normal ocular development of the chick (Gallus gallus domesticus, White Leghorn) up to 15 days of age using both longitudinal and cross-sectional methods. The change in refractive error, corneal curvature and axial ocular distances were used to construct schematic eyes. Equations are presented which allow prediction of refractive error changes associated with changes in vitreous chamber depth. The mean refractive error was +3.2 D at hatching, which reduced by 66% over the first 3 days and stabilized by 11 days of age. The lens thickened and the anterior chamber deepened from hatching, but vitreal elongation and corneal flattening were delayed until after the first 3 days, suggesting that normal eye growth may be initially inhibited or inactive during an initial emmetropization period, and subsequently activated in response to myopic defocus arising from the continually expanding lens. Finally, when compared with published data on other chick strains, we find differences in the degree of hyperopia at hatching due to differences in lens thickness. However, the rate of ocular and vitreal expansion and the developmental changes in corneal power are similar, making the schematic eyes presented here generally applicable to different strains of chickens.  相似文献

Purpose

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of axial length (AL) on the thickness of intraretinal layers in the macula using optical coherence tomography (OCT) image analysis.

Methods

Fifty three randomly selected eyes of 53 healthy subjects were recruited for this study. The median age of the participants was 29 years (range: 6 to 67 years). AL was measured for each eye using a Lenstar LS 900 device. OCT imaging of the macula was also performed by Stratus OCT. OCTRIMA software was used to process the raw OCT scans and to determine the weighted mean thickness of 6 intraretinal layers and the total retina. Partial correlation test was performed to assess the correlation between the AL and the thickness values.

Results

Total retinal thickness showed moderate negative correlation with AL (r = -0.378, p = 0.0007), while no correlation was observed between the thickness of the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL), ganglion cell layer (GCC), retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and AL. Moderate negative correlation was observed also between the thickness of the ganglion cell layer and inner plexiform layer complex (GCL+IPL), inner nuclear layer (INL), outer plexiform layer (OPL), outer nuclear layer (ONL) and AL which were more pronounced in the peripheral ring (r = -0.402, p = 0.004; r = -0.429, p = 0.002; r = -0.360, p = 0.01; r = -0.448, p = 0.001).

Conclusions

Our results have shown that the thickness of the nuclear layers and the total retina is correlated with AL. The reason underlying this could be the lateral stretching capability of these layers; however, further research is warranted to prove this theory. Our results suggest that the effect of AL on retinal layers should be taken into account in future studies.  相似文献

The objective of the study was to examine the relationship between balance and pitching error in college baseball pitchers. Sixteen college baseball pitchers, 9 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and 7 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III, participated in the study. Balance ability, expressed as average sway velocity (deg.s(-1)), during dominant leg unilateral stance with eyes open and eyes closed was quantified for each subject utilizing the Balance Master System 7.04 (long force plate). Additionally, each subject underwent sensory organization testing on the SMART EquiTest System providing information regarding the effective use of the somatosensory, visual, and vestibular inputs. Pitching error was assessed with a high-speed video camera recorder during spring practice. A JUGS radar gun measured pitch velocity. The mean pitching error was 37.50 cm with a mean pitch velocity of 78 miles.h(-1) (35 m.s(-1)). No significant correlation was demonstrated between unilateral stance eyes open and pitching error (r = -0.24; p = 0.36) or unilateral stance eyes closed and pitching error (r = -0.29; p = 0.27). A significant negative correlation was demonstrated between sensory organization test 5 and pitching error (r = -0.50; p = 0.05) and between sensory organization test 5/1 and pitching error (r = -0.50; p = 0.05). Additionally, unilateral stance eyes closed demonstrated a positive correlation with pitch velocity (r = 0.52; p = 0.04). The results reveal that low levels of vestibular input utilization may lead to high levels of pitching error in college baseball pitchers.  相似文献

目的应用530 nm单色光光照建立一种新型近视眼动物模型。方法20只约2周龄健康雄性豚鼠,随机分成两组(n=10),实验组和对照组分别在绿光(530 nm)和白光(色温5000 k)下进行饲养。设置照明参数:光量子数相同,为每秒3×10-4μmol/cm2;实测光强度绿光为0.150 mW/cm2,白光为0.247 mW/cm2。实验前每组进行眼球生物学测量(屈光度、角膜曲率、眼轴各部分长度),光照后12周重复测量以上数据,每只豚鼠均取右侧眼参数进行统计分析。结果光照前两组生物学测量参数差异无显著性。光照12周后,绿光组屈光度发生-3.125±0.76 D的变化,白光组为-1.075±0.71D,绿光组同对照白光组相比平均形成约2.0 D的近视,差异有显著性;绿光组眼轴和玻璃体腔分别增长0.98±0.13 mm与0.33±0.14 mm,对照组分别为0.77±0.22 mm与0.13±0.14 mm,绿光组较对照组眼轴和玻璃体腔长度延长较快,差异有显著性;光照后两组角膜曲率半径、前房深度和晶状体厚度均发生不同程度增加,但两组间变化差异无显著性。结论530 nm单色光诱导豚鼠眼球眼轴和玻璃体腔长度延长较快,产生近视.  相似文献

Purpose

To measure the distance between the optic disc center and the fovea (DFD) and to assess its associations.

Methods

The population-based cross-sectional Beijing Eye Study 2011 included 3468 individuals aged 50+ years. The DFD was measured on fundus photographs.

Results

Readable fundus photographs were available for 2836 (81.8%) individuals. Mean DFD was 4.76 ± 0.34mm (median: 4.74 mm; range: 3.76–6.53mm). In multivariate analysis, longer DFD was associated with longer axial length (P<0.001; standardized correlation coefficient beta: 0.62), higher prevalence of axially high myopia (P<0.001; beta:0.06), shallower anterior chamber depth (P<0.001; beta:-0.18), thinner lens thickness (P = 0.004; beta: -0.06), smaller optic disc-fovea angle (P = 0.02; beta: -0.04), larger parapapillary alpha zone (P = 0.008; beta: 0.05), larger parapapillary beta/gamma zone (P<0.001; beta: 0.11), larger optic disc area (P<0.001; beta: 0.08), lower degree of cortical cataract (P = 0.002; beta: -0.08), and lower prevalence of age-related macular degeneration (P = 0.001; beta: -0.06). Bruch´s membrane opening-fovea distance (DFD minus disc radius minus parapapillary beta/gamma zone width) in non-glaucomatous eyes was not significantly (P = 0.60) related with axial length in emmetropic or axially myopic eyes (axial length ≥23.5 mm), while it increased significantly (P<0.001; r: 0.32) with longer axial length in eyes with an axial length of <23.5mm. Ratio of mean DFD to disc diameter was 2.65 ± 0.30. If the ratio of disc-fovea distance to disc diameter was considered constant and if the individual disc diameter was calculated as the individual disc-fovea distance divided by the constant factor of 2.65, the resulting calculated disc diameter differed from the directly measured disc diameter by 0.16 ±0.13 mm (median: 0.13 mm, range: 0.00–0.89 mm) or 8.9 ± 7.3% (median: 7.4%; range: 0.00–70%) of the measured disc diameter.

Conclusions

DFD (mean: 4.76mm) increases with longer axial length, larger parapapillary alpha zone and parapapillary beta/gamma zone, and larger disc area. The axial elongation associated increase in DFD was due to an enlargement of parapapillary beta/gamma zone while the Bruch’s membrane opening-fovea distance did not enlarge with longer axial length. This finding may be of interest for the process of emmetropization and myopization. Due to its variability, the disc-fovea distance has only limited clinical value as a relative size unit for structures at the posterior pole.  相似文献

PurposeTo distinguish the frequently misdiagnosed plateau iris eyes from pupillary block group and normal group, we compared the ocular biometrical parameters of them by A-scan ultrasongraphy.MethodsIn total, we retrospectively reviewed general characteristics and ocular findings including ocular biometric measurements of 71 normal, 39 plateau iris, and 83 pupillary block eyes.ResultsThe normal controls, plateau iris group and pupillary block group were significantly different in age, but not in gender. The anterior chamber depth tended to decrease and the lens thickness tended to increase from normal to plateau iris to pupillary block eyes. Compared to those of plateau iris group, the pupillary block group had significantly shallower anterior chamber depth (2.90mm vs. 2.33mm; p<0.001), thicker lens (4.77mm vs. 5.11mm; p<0.001), shorter axial length (23.16mm vs. 22.63mm; p<0.001), smaller relative lens position (2.28 vs. 2.16; p<0.001) and larger lens/axial length factor (2.06 vs. 2.26; p<0.001). However, when comparing plateau iris and normal eyes, only axial length and lens/axial length factor were significantly different (23.16 vs. 23.54; p<0.05 and 2.06 vs. 1.96; p<0.05).ConclusionsMeasured by A-scan ultrasonography, the ocular biometrics of plateau iris were significantly different from those of pupillary block eyes. However, our A-scan ultrasongraphy generally found no significant biometric differences between plateau iris and normal eyes. These findings suggest that while A-scan ultrasonography might be used as a practical tool for differentiating plateau iris and papillary block eyes, a more meticulous gonioscopy and other assessments may be necessary to distinguish plateau iris from normal eyes.  相似文献

目的探讨豚鼠眼球形觉剥夺后恢复期的生物学参数变化规律。方法普通级2~3周龄豚鼠30只,随机分为两组:①实验组:20只,右眼采用半透明眼罩遮盖进行形觉剥夺4周,随后去遮盖3周,左眼作为自身对照;②正常对照组:10只,双眼不进行任何干预,开放饲养7周。形觉剥夺前、形觉剥夺4周后及去遮盖后第2、6、10、14和21天,测量豚鼠双眼生物学参数:睫状肌麻痹后行带状光检影测量屈光度;A超测量前房深度、晶体厚度和眼轴长度,计算出玻璃体腔长度。结果经过4周形觉剥夺,实验组豚鼠右眼向近视漂移,屈光度为(-2.88±2.30)D,诱导了(-5.50±1.9)D相对近视。去遮盖后,豚鼠右眼重新正视化,屈光度恢复的快速期发生在6 d内,14 d时双眼屈光度差值差异无显著性(t=-2.049,P=0.080),为(-0.18±0.26)D;右眼玻璃体腔长度缩短,14 d时双眼玻璃体腔长度差值差异无显著性(t=1.652,P=0.14),为(0.0234±0.0400)mm;右眼眼轴长度缩短,14 d时双眼眼轴长度差值差差异无显著性(t=1.443,P=0.192),为(0.0183±0.0359)mm。与正常对照组右眼相比,去遮盖6 d,屈光度差异为(-0.48±0.36)D,差异无显著性(t=-1.325,P=0.206),而2 d时玻璃体腔和眼轴长度差异分别为(0.0961±0.0630)mm、(0.0621±0.0386)mm,差异无显著性(t=1.652,P=0.14;t=1.607,P=0.125)。结论 2~3周龄豚鼠去除形觉剥夺后可以重新进行正视化,伴随玻璃体腔和眼轴长度缩短;去遮盖6 d内为眼生物学参数恢复的主要时期。  相似文献

In order to meet the demands of myopia prevention, as well as the increasing needs of measurement for refractive and cataract operations in China, a new axial length (AL) measurement system combining an improved Twyman-Green interferometer with digital signal processing has been established. The ALs of 33 eyes of different optical refractive subjects (−8.50 ~ 0.50 D) were measured with the New AL and intraocular lens (IOL) master. The repeatability of measurements with the New AL was assessed using coefficient of variation (CoV) and intra-group correlation coefficient (ICC). Comparison, correlation, linear regression and agreement of AL between devices were analyzed. There was good repeatability (CoV = 0.0617%, ICC = 0.9999) with the New AL and great agreement has been obtained with both devices. These show that the New AL is capable of providing precise AL values over the normal AL range compared to the IOL master, and indicate that the New AL developed can be used for routine clinical AL measurements.  相似文献

Changes in vitreal protein and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) concentrations, as well as chorioretinal in vitro PGE2 production, were studied in rabbit eyes following Neodymium (Nd):YAG laser retinal exposure. Laser exposure was associated with an enhanced vitreal PGE2 concentration throughout a two-week observation period, with highest levels on days 1 and 7 after exposure (a 5.3 and 4.7 increase above baseline, respectively). A transitory 50% elevation above baseline in vitreal protein levels was observed in the laser-exposed eyes during the second week after exposure. Laser exposure was also associated with an enhancement in the in vitro chorioretinal PGE2 production, which varied throughout the observation period, and was more pronounced during the first week after exposure, when levels were four times higher than baseline. Initially PGE2 vitreal levels were closely related to excessive in vitro production. However, during the second week after exposure, evidence of such correlation was lacking, but PGE2 vitreal levels coincided with a small increase in vitreal protein levels. It is suggested that disruption of the blood retinal barrier by the long-term exposure to mildly elevated vitreal PGE2 levels was accountable for protein leakage, which might have affected PGE2 removal mechanisms.  相似文献

Characteristics of saccades and presaccadic slow potentials were studied in 36 right-handed men with right (the RE group) and left (the LE group) eye dominance. Three light-emitting diodes located in the center of the visual field (the central fixation stimulus, CFS) and 10 deg to the left and to the right of the center (peripheral stimuli, PSs) were used for stimulation. The subjects performed a task with simple saccades to a PS and a task with antisaccades to the horizontal mirror position of the PS. Monopolar EEGs at 19 derivations and electrooculograms (EOGs) were recorded. Back averaging of the EEG time-locked to the PS onset or the saccade onset was used to obtain slow presaccadic potentials. The saccade characteristics in the RE and LE groups were similar. Differences between them were found only in the antisaccade task. The amplitude of negative presaccadic potentials (NPPs) time-locked to the PS in the frontal cortex was lower in the LE group compared to the RE group. Analysis of potentials time-locked to the saccade onset showed that changes in the slow potentials during the last 50 s before the saccade depended on the saccade direction and reflected the activation of the hemisphere opposite to the saccade direction. The activation of the right hemisphere before left-side saccades was higher in the LE than the RE group. In addition, the amplitude of NPPs was decreased in the frontal area and increased in the left posterior temporal area in the LE group compared to the RE group. The obtained results indicate that the involvement of the frontal cortex in cognitive and motor processes is decreased in subjects with the left eye dominance.  相似文献

The substrate specificity of the enzyme violaxanthin de-epoxidase (VDE) of the primitive green alga Mantoniella squamata (Prasinophyceae) was tested in in vitro enzyme assays employing the following xanthophyll mono-epoxides: antheraxanthin (Ax), diadinoxanthin (Ddx), lutein-epoxide (LE), cryptoxanthin-epoxide (CxE), 9- cis neoxanthin (cNx), all- trans neoxanthin (Nx), and xanthophyll di-epoxides: 9- cis violaxanthin (cVx), all- trans violaxanthin (Vx), cryptoxanthin-di-epoxide (CxDE). The data presented in this study show that the VDE of M. squamata not only exhibits a low affinity for the mono-epoxide Ax, as has been reported by R. Frommolt et al. (2001, Planta 213:446-456), but has a reduced substrate affinity for the mono-epoxides Ddx, LE, CxE, and Nx as well. On the other hand, xanthophylls with a second epoxy-group (Vx, CxDE) can be de-epoxidized with a higher efficiency. Such a preference for xanthophyll di-epoxides cannot be observed for the higher-plant VDE, where, in general, no marked differences in the pigment de-epoxidation rates between xanthophyll mono- and di-epoxides are visible. Despite this substantial difference between the VDEs of M. squamata and S. oleracea there are also features common to both enzymes. Neither VDE is able to convert xanthophylls with a 9- cis configuration in the acyclic polyene chain and both rely on substrates in the all- trans configuration. Both enzymes furthermore exhibit a dependence of enzyme activity on the polarity of the substrate. Highly polar (Nx) or non-polar (CxE) xanthophylls are de-epoxidized with greatly reduced rates in comparison to substrates with an intermediate polarity (Vx, Ax, LE, Ddx). This dependence on substrate polarity becomes more obvious when the higher-plant VDE is examined, as the substrate affinity of the VDE of M. squamata is more strongly influenced by the existence or absence of a second epoxy-group. In summary, the data presented in this study underline the fact that different VDEs, although in general catalyzing the same reaction sequence, are functionally diverse.  相似文献

Myopia affects well over 30% of adult humans globally. However, the underlying physiological mechanism is little understood. This study tested the hypothesis that ocular growth and refractive compensation to optical defocus can be controlled by manipulation of potassium and chloride ion-driven transretinal fluid movements to the choroid. Chicks were raised with +/-10D or zero power optical defocus rendering the focal plane of the eye in front of, behind, or at the level of the retinal photoreceptors respectively. Intravitreal injections of barium chloride, a non-specific inhibitor of potassium channels in the retina and RPE or bumetanide, a selective inhibitor of the sodium-potassium-chloride cotransporter were made, targeting fluid control mechanisms. Comparison of refractive compensation to 5 mM Ba(2+) and 10(-5) M bumetanide compared with control saline injected eyes shows significant change for both positive and negative lens defocus for Ba(2+) but significant change only for negative lens defocus with bumetanide (Rx(SAL)(-10D) = -8.6 +/- .9 D; Rx(Ba2+)(-10D) = -2.9 +/- .9 D; Rx(Bum)(-10D) = -2.9 +/- .9 D; Rx(SAL)(+10D) = +8.2 +/- .9 D; Rx(Ba2+)(+10D) = +2.8 +/- 1.3 D; Rx(Bum)(+10D) = +8.0 +/- .7 D). Vitreous chamber depths showed a main effect for drug conditions with less depth change in response to defocus shown for Ba(2+) relative to Saline, while bumetanide injected eyes showed a trend to increased depth without a significant interaction with applied defocus. The results indicate that both K channels and the NKCC cotransporter play a role in refractive compensation with NKCC blockade showing far more specificity for negative, compared with positive, lens defocus. Probable sites of action relevant to refractive control include the apical retinal pigment epithelium membrane and the photoreceptor/ON bipolar synapse. The similarities between the biometric effects of NKCC inhibition and biometric reports of the blockade of the retinal ON response, suggest a possible common mechanism. The selective inhibition of refractive compensation to negative lens in chick by loop diuretics such as bumetanide suggests that these drugs may be effective in the therapeutic management of human myopia.  相似文献

Knowledge of whale length is important to ecological studies. However, photographic techniques to measure sperm whales traditionally require high vantage points or a complicated stereo system. Furthermore, these traditional techniques require an alongside approach that often prevents individual identification. For simple and fast size measurements at sea, I used a laser range finder alongside a digital camera to obtain distance to the fluke at the same time as photo-identification. The camera/lens and laser range finder were calibrated on objects of known lengths. The coefficient of variation (CV) for test objects was low (CV = 0.21%). Forty-seven individually identified sperm whales were measured repetitively on up to 12 different occasions, and the CV was lower (CV = 1.3%) than for other photogrammetric techniques (CV = 4.4%–5.1%). A regression of log fluke span to log total length from whaling and stranding data yielded an r  2 of 0.87 (CV of residuals = 6.7%). Thirty-eight female/immature sperm whales were measured in the Gulf of Mexico (median = 9.3 m, range = 7.1–12.3 m), 167 in the Gulf of California (median = 10.7 m, range = 8.4–13.1 m) and 13 bachelor males off Kaikoura, New Zealand (median = 14.2, range = 11.7–15.8 m). The results were within known sperm whale size and suggested that the population in the Gulf of Mexico was made up of smaller animals than that of the Gulf of California. This technique is easy to implement and allows the measurement of identified individuals.  相似文献

Since stature is an additive measurement, it would be useful to examine the pattern of its constituent segments in terms of sitting height and subischial leg length for the evaluation and insight of various growth related issues as well. The aim of the present study was to understand the growth patterns with respect to height (HT), sitting height (SH), subischial leg length (SLL), Cormic Index (CRI) and their relationship with age. The present cross-sectional study includes 162 Bengalee boys aged 6-12 years. Age effect displayed significant positive correlation with HT (r = 0.734), SLL (r = 0.731) and SH (r = 0.637). However, CRI revealed significant negative correlation (r = -0.433) with age. This may be due to the fact that in these ages tempo of growth in SLL was higher than SH. Age-wise correlation between SH and SLL changes dramatically and varies from 0.474 to 0.750 due to the variation in the tempo of growth.  相似文献

为揭示扇脉杓兰(Cypripedium japonicum Thunb.)表型性状的变异规律,以浙江临安6个野生居群(老殿、宝剑石、红蛇洞、清凉峰、大明山和里横塘)为研究对象,分析了叶片、萼片、子房及唇瓣等18个表型性状的变异幅度,并讨论了表型性状变异与地理-土壤养分因子间的相关性以及居群间和居群内的表型多样性.结果显示:6个居群18个表型性状(地径、下叶长、下叶宽、下叶长/宽比、上叶长、上叶宽、上叶长/宽比、中萼片长、中萼片宽、苞片长、苞片宽、子房长、花梗直径、花梗长、唇瓣长、唇瓣宽、植株展度和株高)测量值的F值为1.240 ~ 18.666,除花梗直径和株高外,其他16个性状均有极显著差异.各性状的变异系数为5.937% ~ 26.349%,其中,唇瓣长的平均变异系数最小(6.119%)、苞片宽的平均变异系数最大(24.124%);居群间各性状的变异系数为8.139%~ 13.663%,平均变异系数为11.143%,其中,里横塘居群的平均变异系数最大、宝剑石居群的最小.各性状的多样性指数平均为1.977,其中地径的多样性指数最大(2.045)、苞片宽的最小(1.663).通过UPGMA聚类分析,可将6个居群划分为3组:清凉峰、大明山、老殿和宝剑石居群为1组;红蛇洞和里横塘居群分别各自成组,其中清凉峰和大明山居群的遗传距离最近.各表型性状间存在显著或极显著的相关关系;但仅地径与速效钾含量显著正相关(r=0.854),子房长、唇瓣长和宽与土壤全磷含量显著正相关(r值分别为0.916、0.854和0.914),植株展度与土壤pH显著正相关(r=0.810),其余性状与地理因子(包括经度、纬度和海拔)及土壤养分因子均无显著相关性.研究结果表明:扇脉杓兰野生居群表型性状存在丰富的变异和多样性,且与生境土壤中速效钾及全磷含量及土壤pH有关.  相似文献

The correlation between flower morphology and share of different insect groups visiting them was studied for 15 Asteraceae species. We measured length and width of corolla tube of 100 flowers of each plant species and determined proportions of main groups of anthophilous insects during all blooming period. According to corolla length species under study ranged more or less uniformly from 2.16 mm (Tripleurospermum inodorum) up to 21.06 mm (Cirsium heterophyllum). The correlation between share of long-tongued bees (mainly bumblebees) among all visitors of inflorescens and corolla length was positive (r = 0.737, P < 0.01) while for short-tongued flies (Syrphidae, Muscidae, Calliphoridae) it was negative (r = -0.869, P < 0.01). It is interesting, that the point of crossing of regression lines (12 mm) approximately coincides with change in inflorescences coloration. Plants with corolla length less than 10 mm have yellow or white inflorescences that are visited primarily by flies, while the plants with longer corolla have violet or dark blue inflorescences, by bumblebees. The dependence of proportion of short-tongued solitary bees (Andrenidae, Halictidae) on a corolla length was non-linear. It increased with increase in corolla length in an interval of 2.16-6.26 mm (r = 0.930, P < 0.1), but decreased for longer corollas (r = -0.680, P < 0.05). The correlation between corolla length and proportions of beetles and butterflies were insignificant.  相似文献
