In this paper, we document length–weight relationships (LWRs) for nine rarely occurring carangids, opportunistically sampled form commercial catches between 2012 and 2015 being fished from the northern Arabian Sea coast of Pakistan. After confirmation in the FishBase database all nine species Alectis indica (25), Alepes melanoptera (20), Alepes vari (22), Atropus Atropos (25), Carangoides praeustus (50), Seriolina nigrofasciata (21), Trachinotus blochi (30), Trachinotus mokalee (34) and Uraspis uraspis (17) found no LWRs previously documented. The slope values for species presented range from 2.44 to 2.93, intercepts 0.0001–0.048, coefficient of determination 0.89–0.99, and confidence intervals for slopes and intercepts of each species calculated. The LWRs data of nine species would be added in the FishBase database, and provide underlying biological data to the regional biologist for further exploration of these species.  相似文献

The present study describes the length–weight (LWR) of three fish species, Chela cachius (Hamilton, 1822), Coilia ramcarati (Hamilton, 1822) and Sardinella gibbosa (Bleeker, 1849) captured in the Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh, from December 2014 to November 2015. Fishes were captured with either gill nets (mesh size 2.0–5.0 cm) or set bag nets (mesh size 2.0–4.0 cm). The b values in the study varied from 2.88 (C. ramcarati) to 3.00 (S. gibbosa), with a mean a value of 2.94 at < .001 for all three species. In addition, the study provides initial information on LWRs for C. cachius and C. ramcarati and maximum length records for C. cachius and S. gibbosa.  相似文献

Length–weight relationships (LWRs) of three fish species: Scomberomorus commerson, Alepes vari, and A. kleinii were estimated from Kerala waters, south‐west coast of India. Fish were captured between June 2016 and June 2017 by various gears such as ring seine (8–26 mm mesh size), trawl (30–40 mm cod end mesh size), hook and line (hook number VI–XII), smaller mesh sized drift gill net (26–90 mm) and larger one (120–170 mm) for bigger size fishes. Fish were collected on weekly basis from Cochin Fisheries Harbour (Lat. 09°56′327″N, Long. 76°15′764″E), Munambam Fisheries Harbour (Lat. 10°10′965″N, Long. 76°10′258″E), Kalamukku (Lat. 09°59′924″N, Long. 76°14′564″E) and Chellanam (Lat. 09°47′950″N, Long. 76°16′551″E). All LWRs were significant with r2 values ranged from 0.944 to 0.996 and b values ranged from 2.722 to 3.021 (< .001). In addition, this study provides the information on LWRs and new maximum size for Alepes vari and A. kleinii.  相似文献

Length‐weight relationships (LWRs) were determined for 4 deep water fish species from Visakhapatnam coast, India. Specimens were collected fortnightly between December 2013 and November 2015 from commercial trawls at Visakhapatnam fish landing centre (16.98°N–20.2°N, Long.82.19°–86.53°E). Individuals were captured between 100 and 300 m depth with shrimp trawl net (head rope length: 37–46 m and cod end mesh size: 30–40 mm). Total length (TL) (nearest to 0.1 cm) and body weights (nearest to 0.1 g) were taken each individual. All LWRs were significant with r2 values ranged from 0.958 for Uranoscopus bicinctus Temminkc & Schlegel, 1843 to 0.983 for Uranoscopus chinensis Guichenot, 1882 and “b” values ranged from 2.832 for U. bicinctus to 3. 402 Synodus indicus (Day, 1873).This study provides a new maximum length data for three species (Uranoscopus bicinctus Temminkc & Schlegel, 1843; Uranoscopus chinensis Guichenot, 1882 and Uranoscopus marmoratus Cuvier, 1829).  相似文献

This study presents length‐weight relationships (LWRs) of Liza klunzingeri (Day, 1888), Cociella crocodilus (Cuvier, 1829), Platycephalus indicus (Linnaeus, 1758) belonging to two Families (Mugilidae and Platycephalidae) from northern coastline of Gulf of Oman (Hormozgan province). Samples were collected by artisanal trawl and beach seine (both with 11 mm effective mesh size) monthly during 2010 to 2015. The presented models were highly significant (p < 0.01) with a reliable coefficient of determination (R2 > 0.90) that provides a reliable basic information for ichthyologists and fisheries scientists.  相似文献

The length–weight relationships (LWRs) for six species were determined, namely Carangoides chrysophrys (Cuvier, 1833), Drepane longimana (Bloch & Schneider, 1801), Euthynnus affinis (Cantor, 1849), Polydactylus plebeius (Broussonet, 1782), Pomadasys kaakan (Cuvier, 1830) and Pseudorhombus elevatus (Ogilby, 1912). Fish was sampled from the Coastal Waters of Jask, Iran (located in Hormozgan Provinces) between October 2011 and March 2012. This work revises previous literature in the Jask and provides the first reference on weight–length parameters for two fish species worldwide and for six species of the Coastal Waters of Jask, Iran.  相似文献

Data and information are needed to avert the alarming decline and initiate conservation measures for three threatened fishes, Labeo boga (Hamilton, 1822), Nandus nandus (Hamilton, 1822) and Puntius ticto (Hamilton, 1822), from the Ganges River and surrounding ecosystems. These fishes are decreasing rapidly due to high fishing pressures as well as environmental degradation. This study furnishes the length–weight relationships (LWRs), length–length relationships (LLRs) and form factor (a3.0) of these three threatened species from the Ganges River, northwestern Bangladesh. A total of 773 specimens from the three species and two families used for this study were caught by traditional fishing gear between April 2011 and March 2012. The analysis of covariance (ancova ) revealed significant differences between the sexes in LWRs for L. boga (P < 0.001), but not with the remaining species (P > 0.05). Furthermore, the LLRs were highly correlated (r2 > 0.983; P < 0.001), and ancova analyses additionally indicated that LLRs did not differ between sexes (P > 0.05). The calculated form factor (a3.0) was 0.0111, 0.0159 and 0.0129 for L. boga, N. nandus and P. ticto, respectively. This study presents the first references on LWRs, LLRs and form factor for these three threatened species in Bangladesh. The results would be useful for further studies on the population assessment and sustainable conservation of the limited stocks in the Ganges River ecosystem.  相似文献

Length-weight relationships (LWRs) were estimated for seven fish species captured as bycatch along the Chennai coast, Bay of Bengal, Eastern Indian Ocean. Fish samples were collected fortnightly between June-2018 to February-2019 from the commercial boats operating bottom trawl nets with a cod-end mesh size of 35mm. The total length (L) and the wet weight (W) to the nearest 0.1 cm and 0.01 g, respectively which is followed by regression analysis. The values of exponent (b) for LWRs varied from 2.5803 (Parachaeturichthys polynema) to 3.4432 (Ostorhinchus oxina). Similarly, a value varied between 0.0037 (Bleekeria kallolepis) and 0.0258 (Archamia bleekeri). As per FishBase, a new TLmax has been recorded for four species such as Ostorhinchus oxina, Jaydia striata, Bleekeria kallolepis and Cocotropus roseus.  相似文献

The present work provides length-weight relationships (LWRs) for fish species captured around artificial offshore reef deployed 5 km from Guaxindiba Port, northern Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The fish were captured during two sampling periods each year between 1996 and 2017 using bottom gill nets (25 mlength × 3 mdepth; 30 mm mesh). The fish were kept on ice and the biometric data, including total length (cm) and total wet weight (g) were determined in the laboratory. A total of 16 species belonging to 10 families were analyzed with Sciaenidae being the species richest family (5 spp) in the samples. The new value of LWRs for Sphyraena guachancho and new maximum sizes recorded for seven species highlight the scarcity of information on biological aspects of South America coastal fishes. These LWRs should assist fisheries scientist and managers to complement their further studies of population parameters to improve management decisions.  相似文献

Length–weight relationships (LWRs) for three fish species, Psiloryhnchus homaloptera Hora & Mukherji, 1935, Pseudecheneis sulcata (McClelland, 1842) and Devario aequipinnatus (McClelland, 1839), from the Kameng River in Arunachal Pradesh, India were estimated from August 2016 to October 2017. Fishes were collected seasonally using cast nets (2.5 m, 1.2 cm) and electrofishing device (Safari Surveyor, 12 V 7 amp). The b values in the LWRs were determined as 2.98, 2.93 and 2.72 for P. homaloptera, P. sulcata and D. aequipinnatus respectively. The coefficient of determination (r² > .95) for all the species is statistically significant.  相似文献

The present study describes the length–weight relationships (LWRs) for Hara hara, Pangio pangia and Setipinna brevifilis from the lower Brahmaputra River in Assam, Northeast India, collected from June 2016 to May 2017, using fishing gears namely cast nets (9′, 1 ⁄ 2″) and gillnets (30 × 0.9 m). Length weight relationships (LWRs) were estimated for three gobiid species, Bathygobius meggitti(Hora & Mukerji, 1936), Acentrogobius dayi Koumans, 1941 and Cryptocentroides arabicus(Gmelin, 1789) (Perciformes: Gobiidae) collected from 13 localities of the Iranian intertidal coast of the Persian Gulf and Makran Sea in seven times from November 2015 to September 2017 using a hand net with mesh size 1.30 mm. The b values showed significant differences between males and females of all species except the C. arabicus. Bailey's t test revealed that b value significantly deviated from the expected cube value of 3 in three species.  相似文献

The present ichthyological report describes the length‐weight relationships (LWRs) of three catfish species (Eutropiichthys murius, Nangra nangra and Gagata viridescens) belonging to two families from the Kaliganga River, a tributary of the Dhaleshwari River, Bangladesh. The analyses included 306 specimens collected monthly from fishermen's catches during October 2015 to April 2016. Ranges of regression parameters a and b of the three species were within 0.0058–0.0099 and 2.900–3.142, respectively with highly correlated coefficients of determination (r2 > .995; p < .001). The LWRs for all three species presented herein for the first time with a new maximum length record for N. nangra.  相似文献

The present study reports the length‐weight relationships (LWRs) of two clupeoid fish species, Thryssa malabarica (Bloch, 1795) and Thryssa dayi Wongratana, 1983 from Kerala waters, southwest coast of India during the period October 2015 to September 2016. Altogether 88 specimens of T. malabarica and 97 T. dayi were collected on weekly basis from gill nets (mesh size, 2.6–5.0 cm) and ring seines (mesh size, 0.8–2.6 cm) during the period. The value of parameter b in the equation of LWRs was estimated as 3.237 and 3.248 for T. malabarica and T. dayi respectively.  相似文献

Length‐weight relationships (LWRs) are presented for three hill stream fish species belonging to the family Cyprinidae namely, Barilius barila (Hamilton, 1822), Opsarius tileo (Hamilton, 1822) and Cyprinion semiplotum (McClelland, 1839). Fishes were collected on a monthly basis from January 2016 to December 2017 with the help of cast net (270 cm length, 1.2 cm mesh size) and gillnet (7,500 cm length × 130 cm depth, 5 cm mesh size) from the Manas river in Assam, India.. Current study reports the length‐weight relationships (LWRs) of three marine fish species collected from the fishermen catches covering three seasons i.e., rainy, autumn and winter between June, 2016 and February, 2017. Fishermen caught the species using beach seine net (3.5 cm mesh size) and set bag net (0.5 cm mesh size) up to 200 m far away from the shoreline. The LWRs for fish species were W = 0.0180TL3.192 for A. longispinnis, W = 0.0109TL2.971 for R. russeliana and W = 0.0098TL2.942 for C. neglecta with their r2 values of 0.971, 0.962 and 0.997, respectively.  相似文献

The present study narrated the length–weight relationships (LWRs) of three fish species Salmophasia sardinella (Valenciennes, 1844), Amblypharyngodon microlepis (Bleeker, 1853) and Macrognathus aral (Bloch & Scheider, 1801) from the Arial Khan River, a south‐eastward outlet of the river Padma, Bangladesh. Fish samples were collected monthly basis from fishermen who used cast nets (mesh size <0.5 cm) and set bag nets (mesh size 0.5 cm) for catching fish species from January to December, 2016. The growth coefficient b in LWRs were 3.004, 3.001 and 2.936 for M. aral, S. sardinella and A. microlepis, respectively.  相似文献

Length‐weight relationships (LWRs) were determined for Dermogenys pusilla (n = 75) and Labeo bata (n = 304) from the Ganges River, northwestern Bangladesh, collected between July 2013 and June 2014, using traditional fishing gear (e.g. cast net, square lift net and gill net). Total length (TL) was measured to 0.1 cm and whole body weight (BW) was taken to the nearest 0.1 g for each individual. The TL varied from 6.60 to 16.10 cm for D. pusilla and 7.90–25.20 cm for L. bata. The BW ranged from 1.20 to 10.90 g for D. pusilla and 4.70–167.30 g for L. bata. All LWRs were highly significant (P < 0.001), with all r2 values ≥0.976. Moreover, the present study provides a new record of the maximum length (16.10 cm TL) for the D. pusilla female. The present study can assist in the management of these two endangered species in the Ganges River ecosystem.  相似文献

Length–weight relationships for two fish species Secutor interruptus (Valencennes, 1835) (2.3–5.0 cm in size) and Opisthopterus tardoore (Cuvier, 1829) (9.2–15.6 cm in size) were determined. Samplings were conducted at Bintulu coast, South China Sea, Sarawak from September to October 2016 using a pull net having different mesh size from 6 inch at the mouth, 4 inch at the bag area, 2 inch at the panel and 1.5 inch at the cod end. The estimated growth coefficient (b) was 2.96 for S. interruptus and 3.11 for O. tardoore. No information regarding length‐weight relationships was reported previously in FishBase for either S. interruptus or O. tardoore.  相似文献
