Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and nitric oxide (NO) generated by salicylic acid (SA) are considered to be functional links of cross‐tolerance to various stressors. SA‐stimulated pre‐adaptation state was beneficial in the acclimation to subsequent salt stress in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum cv. Rio Fuego). At the whole‐plant level, SA‐induced massive H2O2 accumulation only at high concentrations (10?3–10?2M), which later caused the death of plants. The excess accumulation of H2O2 as compared with plants exposed to 100 mM NaCl was not associated with salt stress response after SA pre‐treatments. In the root tips, 10?3–10?2M SA triggered the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and NO with a concomitant decline in the cell viability. Sublethal concentrations of SA, however, decreased the effect of salt stress on ROS and NO production in the root apex. The attenuation of oxidative stress because of high salinity occurred not only in pre‐adapted plants but also at cell level. When protoplasts prepared from control leaves were exposed to SA in the presence of 100 mM NaCl, the production of NO and ROS was much lower and the viability of the cells was higher than in salt‐treated samples. This suggests that, the cross‐talk of signalling pathways induced by SA and high salinity may occur at the level of ROS and NO production. Abscisic acid (ABA), polyamines and 1‐aminocyclopropane‐1‐carboxylic acid, the compounds accumulating in pre‐treated plants, enhanced the diphenylene iodonium‐sensitive ROS and NO levels, but, in contrast to others, ABA and putrescine preserved the viability of protoplasts.  相似文献

Thirty crop species provide 90% of our food, most of which display severe yield losses under moderate salinity. Securing and augmenting agricultural yield in times of global warming and population increase is urgent and should, aside from ameliorating saline soils, include attempts to increase crop plant salt tolerance. This short review provides an overview of the processes that limit growth and yield in saline conditions. Yield is reduced if soil salinity surpasses crop‐specific thresholds, with cotton, barley and sugar beet being highly tolerant, while sweet potato, wheat and maize display high sensitivity. Apart from Na+, also Cl?, Mg2+, SO42‐ or HCO3 contribute to salt toxicity. The inhibition of biochemical or physiological processes cause imbalance in metabolism and cell signalling and enhance the production of reactive oxygen species interfering with cell redox and energy state. Plant development and root patterning is disturbed, and this response depends on redox and reactive oxygen species signalling, calcium and plant hormones. The interlink of the physiological understanding of tolerance processes from molecular processes as well as the agronomical techniques for stabilizing growth and yield and their interlinks might help improving our crops for future demand and will provide improvement for cultivating crops in saline environment.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the mechanisms underlying alleviation of salt stress by mycorrhization. Solanum lycopersicum L. cultivars Behta and Piazar with different salinity tolerance were cultivated in soil without salt (EC?=?0.63 dSm?1), with low (EC?=?5 dSm?1), or high (EC?=?10 dSm?1) salinity. Plants inoculated with the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi Glomus intraradices (+AMF) were compared to non-inoculated plants (?AMF). Under salinity, AMF-mediated growth stimulation was higher in more salt tolerant Piazar than in sensitive Behta. Mycorrhization alleviated salt-induced reduction of P, Ca, and K uptake. Ca/Na and K/Na ratios were also better in +AMF. However, growth improvement by AMF was independent from plant P nutrition under high salinity. Mycorrhization improved the net assimilation rates through both elevating stomatal conductance and protecting photochemical processes of PSII against salinity. Higher activity of ROS scavenging enzymes was concomitant with lowering of H2O2, less lipid peroxidation, and higher proline in +AMF. Cultivar differences in growth responses to salinity and mycorrhization could be well explained by differences in ion balance, photochemistry, and gas exchange of leaves. Function of antioxidant defenses seemed responsible for different AMF-responsiveness of cultivars under salinity. In conclusion, AMF may protect plants against salinity by alleviating the salt-induced oxidative stress.  相似文献

In order to examine whether growth of eight genetically diverse canola (Brassica napus) lines under salt stress is positively associated with their rate of photosynthesis and other gas exchange related attributes, 20‐day old plants of all eight lines were subjected to salinised soil containing 2.4 dS m?1 NaCl (control), 4 dS m?1 NaCl, 8 dS m?1 NaCl or 12 dS m‐1 NaCl. The lines DGL (non canola) and Dunkeld were found to be salt tolerant and Rainbow and Cyclon salt sensitive with regard to shoot dry matter production and seed yield under saline conditions. In most of the lines there was a negative relationship between growth and net CO2 assimilation rate. For example, the salt sensitive line Cyclon was the lowest and Con‐III the highest, and the salt tolerant line Dunkeld intermediate in net CO2 assimilation rate under salt stress. Stomatal conductance was found to be lower in the salt sensitive line Cyclon, followed by the salt tolerant line Dunkeld along with Oscar. Water use efficiency estimated as Pn/E was moderate in the salt sensitive line Cyclon and the salt tolerant line Dunkeld. In conclusion, high salt tolerance of Dunkeld and DGL (non‐canola) was not positively associated with net CO2 assimilation rate or Pn/E.  相似文献

Salinity stress is a major factor limiting plant growth and productivity of many crops including oilseed. The present study investigated the identification of salt tolerant mustard genotypes and better understanding the mechanism of salinity tolerance. Salt stresses significantly reduced relative water content (RWC), chlorophyll (Chl) content, K+ and K+ /Na+ ratio, photosynthetic rate (PN), transpiration rate (Tr), stomatal conductance (gs), intercellular CO2 concentration (Ci) and increased the levels of proline (Pro) and lipid peroxidation (MDA) contents, Na+ , superoxide (O2•− ) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in both tolerant and sensitive mustard genotypes. The tolerant genotypes maintained higher Pro and lower MDA content than the salt sensitive genotypes under stress condition. The activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POD), glutathione peroxidase (GPX), monodehydroascorbate reductase (MDHAR) and dehydroascorbate reductase (DHAR) were increased with increasing salinity in salt tolerant genotypes, BJ-1603, BARI Sarisha-11 and BARI Sarisha-16, but the activities were unchanged in salt sensitive genotype, BARI Sarisha-14. Besides, the increment of ascorbate peroxidase (APX) activity was higher in salt sensitive genotype as compared to tolerant ones. However, the activities of glutathione reductase (GR) and glutathione S-transferase (GST) were increased sharply at stress conditions in tolerant genotypes as compared to sensitive genotype. Higher accumulation of Pro along with improved physiological and biochemical parameters as well as reduced oxidative damage by up-regulation of antioxidant defense system are the mechanisms of salt tolerance in selected mustard genotypes, BJ-1603 and BARI Sarisha-16.  相似文献

Salinity and drought stress, which combines a lack of water and sodium toxicity, are more of the problems faced by plants and agricultural crops in newly reclaimed lands. Therefore, the direction of our research is to produce salinity-tolerant plants to increase the productivity of crops under conditions of salt stress. Potato callus was studied using different concentrations of NaCl (0.0, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150 and 200 mM). Shoot induction was obtained from callus treated with MS medium containing 4.0 and 5.0 mg l?1 TDZ + 0.5 mg l?1 GA3 with NaCl up to 125 mM and 150 mM for Rosetta and Victoria, respectively. When plantlets were cultured on MS medium containing 3.0 mg l?1 kinetin and 1.0 mg l-1paclobutrazol (PBZ) with 80 or 90 g l?1 sucrose after two months gave a good microtuber per explant of Rosetta and Victoria cultivar which gave number of microtuber/plantlet (1.85) and (2.40) when plantlets treated with 125 mM and 150 mM NaCl of Rosetta and Victoria cultivar, respectively. In general, the results were shown in each treatment of NaCl and that amounts of proline at 125 and 150 mMNaCl were significantly more than 0.0, 50, 75 and 100 mM NaCl. This result is related to the role of proline in the osmotic adjustment of a higher concentration of salinity. The results showed that the amounts of sodium increased with increasing the salt concentration, but the amount of potassium decreased and also increased the Na+/K+ ratio with increasing the salt concentration. This research is important for in vitro potato plant regeneration, which requires optimization before genetic transformation can be achieved.  相似文献

The study on Stevia callus has the potential to advance the knowledge of antioxidant mechanisms involved in unorganized cells response to drought stress. The effects of polyethylene glycol (PEG; 0 and 4% w/v) in combination with paclobutrazol (PBZ; 0 and 2 mg l?1) and gibberellin (GA; 0 and 2 mg l?1) were studied on Stevia rebaudiana callus. PEG treatment led to an oxidative stress, as indicated by increased H2O2 content whose accumulation was prevented with PBZ and GA treatments. All treatments of PEG, PBZ and GA increased the total antioxidant capacity, with the highest antioxidant power in PBZ and GA treatments without PEG. The activity of superoxide dismutase, catalase and ascorbate peroxidase significantly increased in PEG treatment alone or in combination with PBZ and GA. All treatments of PEG, PBZ and GA significantly increased proteins, amino acids and proline contents, with the highest increase in presence of PBZ in medium culture. In contrary to proline, the activity of pyrroline-5-carboxylate synthetase and proline dehydrogenase did not change in response to any of the treatments. Collectively, our results demonstrated that PBZ and GA increased reactive oxygen species scavenging and osmolytes in PEG-treated calli more than PEG treatment alone to alleviate negative effects of PEG on Stevia calli. These findings will enable us to design effective genetic engineering strategies in callus culture to generate some somaclonal variation that may be useful in enhancing drought resistance in Stevia.  相似文献

In the face of diminishing fresh water resources and increasing soil salinisation it is relevant to evaluate the potential of halophytic plant species to be cultivated in arid and semi-arid regions, where the productivity of most crop plants is markedly affected. Quinoa is a facultative halophytic plant species with the most tolerant varieties being able to cope with salinity levels as high as those present in sea water. This characteristic has aroused the interest in the species, and a number of studies have been performed with the aim of elucidating the mechanisms used by quinoa in order to cope with high salt levels in the soil at various stages of plant development. In quinoa key traits seem to be an efficient control of Na+ sequestration in leaf vacuoles, xylem Na+ loading, higher ROS tolerance, better K+ retention, and an efficient control over stomatal development and aperture. The purpose of this review is to give an overview on the existing knowledge of the salt tolerance of quinoa, to discuss the potential of quinoa for cultivation in salt-affected regions and as a basis for further research in the field of plant salt tolerance.  相似文献

Effect of paclobutrazol (PBZ) treatment on salinity tolerance of wheat (Triticum aestivum) was investigated on a salt-tolerant (Karchia-65) and salt-sensitive (Ghods) cultivars. Salinity significantly reduced the investigated growth parameters such as plant height, length and area of sixth leaf, root length, fresh and dry weight of shoot, roots and sixth leaf, water content (WC) of plant and seeds weight in the both cultivars. The negative effect of salinity in Ghods cultivar was more than Karchia cultivar. However, PBZ treatment reduced the growth in both cultivars, the differences in plant growth among various levels of NaCl decreased in PBZ-treated plants. Salt stress resulted in high accumulation of Na+ in the sixth leaf and roots in both cultivars, particularly in Ghods cultivar. Against Karchia cultivar, salt stress decreased the storage of K+, P and N in sixth leaf and roots in Ghods cultivar. In the both cultivars, PBZ treatment enhanced the K+, P and N contents in sixth leaf and roots by increasing salinity. Although PBZ treatment decreased the growth of plants, it improved the weight of seeds against stress damage. PBZ treatment reduced the accumulation of harmful Na+ ion in plant tissues while increased the K+, P and N contents. These observations suggest that PBZ treatment may increase tolerance by diminishing ionic imbalance caused by salt stress.  相似文献

  • Excess salt affects about 955 million ha of arable land worldwide, and 49% of agricultural land is Zn‐deficient. Soil salinity and zinc deficiency can intensify plant abiotic stress. The mechanisms by which Zn can mitigate salinity effects on plant functions are not well understood.
  • We conducted an experiment to determine how Zn and salinity effects on rice plant retention of Zn, K+ and the salt ion Na+ affect chlorophyll formation, leaf cell membrane stability and grain yield. We examined the mechanisms of Zn nutrition in mitigating salinity stress by examining plant physiology and nutrition. We used native Zn‐deficient soils (control), four salinity (EC ) and Zn treatments – Zn 10 mg·kg?1 (Zn10), EC 5 dS ·m?1 (EC 5), Zn10+EC 5 and Zn15+EC 5, a coarse rice (KS ‐282) and a fine rice (Basmati‐515) in the study.
  • Our results showed that Zn alone (Zn10) significantly increased rice tolerance to salinity stress by promoting Zn/K+ retention, inhibiting plant Na+ uptake and enhancing leaf cell membrane stability and chlorophyll formation in both rice cultivars in native alkaline, Zn‐deficient soils (<  0.05). Further, under the salinity treatment (EC 5), Zn inputs (10–15 mg·kg?1) could also significantly promote rice plant Zn/K+ retention and reduce plant Na+ uptake, and thus increased leaf cell membrane stability and grain yield. Coarse rice was more salinity‐tolerant than fine rice, having significantly higher Zn/K+ nutrient retention.
  • The mechanistic basis of Zn nutrition in mitigating salinity impacts was through promoting plant Zn/K+ uptake and inhibiting plant Na+ uptake, which could result in increased plant physiological vigour, leaf cell membrane stability and rice productivity.

The effects of thiamin (Thi) applied as seed soaking or foliar spray on some key physiological parameters were investigated in two differentially salt-responsive maize (Zea mays L.) cultivars, DK 5783 and Apex 836 F1, exposed to saline stress in two different experiments. An initial experiment (germination experiment) was designed to identify appropriate doses of Thi which could lessen the deleterious effects of salt on plants and screen all available maize cultivars for their differential tolerance to salt stress (100 mM NaCl). The seeds of nine maize cultivars were soaked for 24 h in solutions containing six levels of Thi (25, 50, 75, 100, 125 and 150 mg l?1). Based on the results obtained from the germination experiment, maize cultivar DK 5783 was found to be the most salt tolerant and Apex 836 as the most sensitive cultivar. Also, of six Thi levels used, two levels (100 and 125 mg l?1) were chosen for subsequent studies. In the second experiment (glasshouse experiment), two maize cultivars, DK 5783 (salt tolerant) and Apex 836 (salt sensitive) were subjected to saline regime (100 mM NaCl) and two levels of Thi (100 and 125 mg l?1) applied as foliar spray. Salt stress markedly suppressed shoot and root dry mass, total chlorophylls (“a” + “b”), leaf water potential and maximum fluorescence yield (Fv/Fm) in the plants of both maize cultivars, but it increased proline accumulation, leaf osmotic pressure, malondialdehyde (MDA) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) concentrations, electrolyte leakage (EL) as well as activities of some key antioxidant enzymes, superoxide dismutase (SOD; EC. 1.15.1.1), peroxidase (POD; EC. 1.11.1.7) and catalase (CAT; EC. 1.11.1.6). Salt-induced reduction in plant growth parameters was higher in the salt-sensitive cultivar, Apex 836, which was found to be associated with relatively increased EL, and MDA and H2O2 levels, and decreased activities of the key antioxidant enzymes. Application of Thi as seed soaking or foliar spray partly mitigated the deleterious effects of salinity on plants of both maize cultivars. The most promising effect of Thi on alleviation of adverse effects of salt stress on maize plants was found when it was applied as foliar spray at 100 mg l?1. Thiamin application considerably reduced tissue Na+ concentration, but improved those of N, P, Ca2+ and K+ in the salt-stressed maize plants. Exogenously applied thiamin-induced growth improvement in maize plants was found to be associated with reduced membrane permeability, MDA and H2O2 levels, and altered activities of some key antioxidant enzymes such as CAT, SOD and POD as well as increased photosynthetic pigment concentration under saline regime.  相似文献

Stress-induced methylglyoxal (MG) functions as a toxic molecule, inhibiting plant physiological processes such as photosynthesis and antioxidant defense systems. In the present study, an attempt was made to investigate the MG detoxification through glutathione metabolism in indica rice [Oryza sativa L. ssp. indica cv. Pathumthani 1] under salt stress by exogenous foliar application of paclobutrazol (PBZ). Fourteen-day-old rice seedlings were pretreated with 15 mg L?1 PBZ foliar spray. After 7 days, rice seedlings were subsequently exposed to 0 (control) or 150 mM NaCl (salt stress) for 12 days. Prolonged salt stress enhanced the production of MG molecules and the oxidation of proteins, leading to decreased activity of glyoxalase enzymes, glyoxalase I (Gly I) and glyoxalase II (Gly II). Consequently, the decreased glyoxalase activities were also associated with a decline in reduced glutathione (GSH) content and glutathione reductase (GR) activity. PBZ pretreatment of rice seedlings under salt stress significantly lowered MG production and protein oxidation, and increased the activities of both Gly I and Gly II. PBZ also increased GSH content and GR activity along with the up-regulation of glyoxalase enzymes, under salt stress. In summary, salinity induced a high level of MG and the associated oxidative damage, while PBZ application reduced the MG toxicity by up-regulating glyoxalase and glutathione defense system in rice seedlings.  相似文献

The use of efficient selection traits for screening under contrasting irrigation water salinity is a challenge for breeders. To identify patterns, grain yield (GY) and yield components (kernels m?2, thousand kernels weight), growth traits (plant height, biomass), flag leaf ion accumulation (Na+ and K+), carbon isotope composition (δ13Cgrain) and nitrogen concentration (Ngrain) of grains were assessed on 25 durum wheat genotypes (G) in two consecutive growing seasons (2010 and 2011), in three semi‐arid locations in Tunisia. Each location differed in their irrigation water salinity as measured by electrical conductivity: Echbika (S1, 6 dS m?1), Barrouta (S2, 12 dS m?1) and Sidi Bouzid (S3, 18 dS m?1). GY was shown to be negatively correlated to Ngrain as well as to δ13Cgrain. This is confirmed by a multiple linear regression analysis that showed that both δ13Cgrain and Ngrain were the major determinant components for GY variability under S3. A high genotypic variability was observed and the improved genotype Maali exhibited the most stable GY under the three irrigation water salinities and the two cropping seasons. Maali showed the lowest δ13Cgrain. This indicates that tolerance in durum wheat is likely to be correlated to the ability of maintaining a high stomatal conductance. According to our data suggests δ13Cgrain can be used for an efficient screening of salt tolerant durum wheat. Under our experimental conditions, Ngrain was shown to be highly correlated to δ13Cgrain and can therefore be easier‐to‐use trait to assess the tolerance to salinity.  相似文献

There is evidence that the plasma membrane (PM) permeability alterations might be involved in plant salt tolerance. This review presents several lines of evidence demonstrating that PM permeability is correlated with salt tolerance in plants. PM injury and hence changes in permeability in salt sensitive plants is brought about by ionic effects as well as oxidative stress induced by salt imposition. It is documented that salinity enhances lipid peroxidation as well as protein oxidative damage, which in turn induces permeability impairment. PM protection, and thus retained permeability, in tolerant plants under salt imposition could be achieved through increasing antioxidative systems and thereby reducing lipid peroxidation and protein oxidative damage of PM. It appears that specific membrane proteins and/or lipids are constitutive or induced under salinity, which may contribute to maintenance of membrane structure and function in salt tolerant plant species. Furthermore, protecting agents (e.g., glycinebetaine, proline, polyamines, trehalose, sorbitol, mannitol) accumulated in salt tolerant species/cultivars may also contribute to PM stabilization and protection under salinity. Based on the presented evidence that PM permeability correlates with plant salt tolerance, we suggest that PM permeability is an easy and useful parameter for selection of genotypes of agriculture crops adapted to salt stress.  相似文献

In saline soils, high levels of sodium (Na+) and chloride (Cl?) ions reduce root growth by inhibiting cell division and elongation, thereby impacting on crop yield. Soil salinity can lead to Na+ toxicity of plant cells, influencing the uptake and retention of other important ions [i.e. potassium (K+)] required for growth. However, measuring and quantifying soluble ions in their native, cellular environment is inherently difficult. Technologies that allow in situ profiling of plant tissues are fundamental for our understanding of abiotic stress responses and the development of tolerant crops. Here, we employ laser ablation‐inductively coupled plasma‐mass spectrometry (LA‐ICP‐MS) to quantify Na, K and other elements [calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), sulphur (S), phosphorus (P), iron (Fe)] at high spatial resolution in the root growth zone of two genotypes of barley (Hordeum vulgare) that differ in salt‐tolerance, cv. Clipper (tolerant) and Sahara (sensitive). The data show that Na+ was excluded from the meristem and cell division zone, indicating that Na+ toxicity is not directly reducing cell division in the salt‐sensitive genotype, Sahara. Interestingly, in both genotypes, K+ was strongly correlated with Na+ concentration, in response to salt stress. In addition, we also show important genetic differences and salt‐specific changes in elemental composition in the root growth zone. These results show that LA‐ICP‐MS can be used for fine mapping of soluble ions (i.e. Na+ and K+) in plant tissues, providing insight into the link between Na+ toxicity and root growth responses to salt stress.  相似文献

Abstract

Pistachio (Pistacia vera L.) is a salt tolerant species that is considered an alternative crop for cultivation in salinzied orchard soils. In this work, 12-week-old pistachio seedlings cultivated in soil under greenhouse conditions were treated with five levels of salinity including control (0.63 dSm?1), low (2 and 4 dSm?1) and high (8 and 10 dSm?1) salt concentrations for further 12 weeks. Plant growth parameters were not affected by mild salinity; a significant reduction was only observed from 8 dSm?1. Considerable differences were observed between the young and mature leaves regarding osmotic and ionic stress effects of salt. Main compatible solutes were proline in mature leaves, proline and soluble sugars in young leaves, and soluble sugars and amino acids, other than proline, in roots. Concentration and content of Na in the leaves were not significantly increased at low levels of salinity and the K:Na and Ca:Na ratio of leaves were affected only by higher salt concentrations. Using the sequential extraction procedure for cell wall isolation, we observed that both absolute and relative amounts of Na in the cell wall fraction increased under low salinity, while decreased under higher levels of salt supply. Stable water relations, photochemistry and CO2 assimilation rates particularly of young leaves, as well as ion homeostasis were mechanisms for maintenance of plants growth under mild salinity. Under severe saline conditions, the impaired ability of mature leaves for synthesis of assimilates, preferent allocation of carbohydrates to roots for maintenance of osmotic homeostasis and finally, reduction of protein synthesis caused growth inhibition in pistachio.  相似文献

In the present study, we compared the response to salinity of three plants from Brittany coast with contrasted ecological status: Limonium latifolium (salt marshes), Matricaria maritima (beach tops and sand dunes) and Crambe maritima (fixed dunes). Under controlled glasshouse conditions, the growth of the three plants decreased with increasing external salinity. L. latifolium and C. maritima exhibited the highest and lowest resistance to severe salt stress (400 mM), respectively. M. maritima could be considered as an intermediate species, since it tolerated salinity up to 200 mM. The same observation could be made with sodium absorption and acuumulation in plant tissues, the most tolerant species (L. latifolium being the least Na accumulator. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and malondialdehyde (MDA), commonly produced in conditions of stress, accumulated significantly in salt treated C. maritima and M. maritima while not in the tolerant L. latifolium. The latter used glutathione reductase to maintain constant H2O2 levels under salt stress while peroxidases were very low and ascorbate peroxidase did not respond to salinity stimulation. The medium tolerant halophyte M. maritima used peroxidases to protect from NaCl-induced H2O2, while the sensitive C. maritima failed to detoxify H2O2 despite a sharp increase in catalase activity. Results showed that the three coastal species differ in resistance to salinity. They also suggested that the level of plant resistance to salinity could be attributed to differing mechanisms to manage the accumulation of sodium and cope with the oxidative damages.  相似文献

Quinoa is regarded as a highly salt tolerant halophyte crop, of great potential for cultivation on saline areas around the world. Fourteen quinoa genotypes of different geographical origin, differing in salinity tolerance, were grown under greenhouse conditions. Salinity treatment started on 10 day old seedlings. Six weeks after the treatment commenced, leaf sap Na and K content and osmolality, stomatal density, chlorophyll fluorescence characteristics, and xylem sap Na and K composition were measured. Responses to salinity differed greatly among the varieties. All cultivars had substantially increased K+ concentrations in the leaf sap, but the most tolerant cultivars had lower xylem Na+ content at the time of sampling. Most tolerant cultivars had lowest leaf sap osmolality. All varieties reduced stomata density when grown under saline conditions. All varieties clustered into two groups (includers and excluders) depending on their strategy of handling Na+ under saline conditions. Under control (non-saline) conditions, a strong positive correlation was observed between salinity tolerance and plants ability to accumulate Na+ in the shoot. Increased leaf sap K+, controlled Na+ loading to the xylem, and reduced stomata density are important physiological traits contributing to genotypic differences in salinity tolerance in quinoa, a halophyte species from Chenopodium family.  相似文献

Low-temperature damage is a common problem for tropical and subtropical plants during their early-growth stage. In this study, an experiment with a L18 (21?×?37) mixed orthogonal array in a greenhouse was conducted to determine whether arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) inoculation and paclobutrazol (PBZ) application through foliar spray would enhance the chilling tolerance of teak seedlings. One-month-old seedlings of clones 8301, 7544, and 7552 from a Myanmar provenance propagated by tissue culture techniques were inoculated with Glomus versiforme and cultivated for 6?months. The foliar surface of both mycorrhizal and nonmycorrhizal treated plants was sprayed with PBZ at concentrations of 0, 50, and 100?mg?l?1 once a week for 3?weeks prior to exposure to low temperatures of 6, 3, and 0°C for 12?h in an artificial climate chamber, followed by 12?h of recovery at 20°C room temperature. AMF colonization significantly promoted height and RCD growth and dry biomass accumulation of shoot and root. Under low-temperature stress, AM symbiosis increased leaf chlorophyll content by 22.8%, soluble protein content by 19.6%, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity by 10.6%, and peroxidase (POX) activity by 9.5%, whereas malondialdehyde content was decreased by 14.1%. Both AMF colonization and the foliar spray PBZ at 50 and 100?mg?l?1 were capable of alleviating the damage caused by low-temperature stress on teak seedlings by increasing the photosynthetic pigments, accumulation of osmotic adjustment compounds, and antioxidant enzyme (SOD and POX) activity, and by decreasing membrane lipid peroxidation.
