A wide range of sex chromosome mechanisms, including simple and multiple chromosome systems is characteristic of fishes. The Leporinus genus represent a good model to study sex chromosome mechanisms, because an unambiguous ZZ/ZW sex chromosome system was previously described for seven species, while the remaining studied species of the genus do not show differentiated sex chromosomes. The occurrence of sex chromosomes in Leporinus trifasciatus and Leporinus sp2 from the Araguaia river, Amazon basin, Brazil, was here investigated. ZZ/ZW sex chromosomes were detected for both species. The Z and W chromosome morphology of L. trifasciatus is the same as described for other species of the genus Leporinus. However, the Z and W chromosomes of L. sp2 were quite different in their morphology and banding pattern suggesting that the ZW system of this species have originated independently from the ZW system previously described for other Leporinus.  相似文献

The Arvicolidae is a widely distributed rodent group with several interesting characteristics in their sex chromosomes. Here, we summarize the actual knowledge of some of these characteristics. This mammalian group has species with abnormal sex determination systems. In fact, some species present the same karyotype in both males and females, with total absence of a Y chromosome, and hence of SRY and ZFY genes. Other species present fertile, sex-reversed XY females, generally due to mutations affecting X chromosomes. Furthermore, in Microtus oregoni males and females are gonosomic mosaic (the females are XO in the soma and XX in the germ cells, while the males are XY in the soma and OY in the germ cells). Regarding sex chromosomes, some species present enlarged (giant) sex chromosomes because of the presence of large blocks of constitutive heterochromatin, which have been demonstrated to be highly heterogeneous. Furthermore, we also consider the alterations affecting composition and localization of sex-linked genes or repeated sequences. Finally, this rodent group includes species with synaptic and asynaptic sex chromosomes. In fact, several species with asynaptic sex chromosomes have been described. It is interesting to note that within the genus Microtus both types of sex chromosomes are present.  相似文献

Abstract

Autotriploidy is described in a female of the endemic New Zealand frog Leiopelma hochstetteri. This frog was found to have 3n=33 chromosomes plus 2 supernumerary chromosomes. All the chromosomes in the karyotype of this species contained C-band heterochromatin at the centromeres. A prominent C-band was found to be associated with a secondary constriction on chromosome no. 7. The supernumerary chromosomes in this species appear to be mitotically stable and contain C-band heterochromatin at the centromeres. From the limited data presently available, the triploid individual may have resulted from the fertilisation of a diploid egg produced when the second meiotic division had been suppressed.  相似文献

Orthopodomyia pulcripalpis is the only European representative of the tribe Orthopodomyiini (Diptera: Culicidae). Its chromosomal complement consists of three pairs of metaphase chromosomes, as it is typical of culicine mosquitoes. O. pulcripalpis shows, differently from other culicine species, polytene chromosomes of excellent cytological quality, easily obtainable from the larval salivary glands. A photomap of the polytene chromosomes of the species is described in the present paper together with some details on chromosomal polymorphism.  相似文献

Chromosome complements of the following species were described: Agama sanguinolenta Pallas, 1813; A. caucasica Eichwald, 1813; A. erythrogastra Nikolsky, 1896; A. lehmanni Nikolsky, 1896; and A. hymalayana Steindachner, 1867. Agama sanguinolenta has 46 chromosomes, all of them being telocentric. The remaining 4 species show 2-n equal to 36:6 pairs of meta- or submetacentric macrochromosomes and 24 microchromosomes. Sex chromosomes have not been found. Possilbe evolutionary interpretation of a profound karyologic divergence in the genus Agama and karyotypic relationships of Agamidae with Iguanidae of the New World, are discussed.  相似文献

The karyotype of experimentally obtained hybrids between the two closely related species Glyptotendipes pallens and Glyptotendipes glaucus is described. Hybridization was successful in one direction only ( G. pallens ♂ x G. glaucus ♀). The polytene chromosomes AB and EF of the hybrid show a more or less intimate pairing throughout their length. In the chromosomes CD in which an inversion occurs the characteristic loop is formed. The homologues of chromosome G are almost completely asynaptic. The localization of centromere heterochromatin was also studied. Centromere heterochromatin as well as intercalary heterochromatin could be observed in all chromosomes. By C banding analyses it could be shown that G. pallens has a telomeric chromosome G while in G. glaucus it is acrocentric. According to karyotype similarity it can be assumed that these two species have quite recently derived from a common ancestor since they still share much of their genomic organization. On the Black Sea coast (southeast part of Bulgaria) a natural hybridization zone between the sympatric species G. pallens and G. glaucus has been detected. The idea that hybridization between the two species might finally proceed to the formation of a new species by hybrid origin and introgression is discussed.  相似文献

Karyotype morphology of Psophocarpus tetragonolobus and P. scandens is described and the behaviour of chromosomes at meiosis discussed. Both species have a chromosome number of 2n = 18 and similar karyotypes of a sort unusual within the Phaseolinae. Differences between the species in detailed morphology of the chromosomes agree with data from external morphology, palynology and crossability in indicating that P. scandens cannot be the immediate wild ancestor of domesticated P. tetragonolobus . Study of meiotic chromosomes and analysis of qualitative and quantitative variation in Papua New Guinean P. tetragonolobus suggest that there are few restrictions to recombination other than those imposed by predominant self-pollination, The bearing of these data on the taxonomic relationships of Psophocarpus and on chromosomal evolution within the Phaseolinae is discussed.  相似文献

The first unequivocal example of a natural Trilurus helvelicus × T. vulgaris hybrid is described. The specimen was a male and discriminant analysis of physical characters indicated that it was morphologically intermediate between the parent species. A karyotype confirmed that the hybrid bore a haploid set of chromosomes from T. helveticus and a haploid set from T. vulgaris. Examination of the sex chromosomes showed that it was the result of mating between a male T. helveticus and a female T. vulgaris. As numerous mature sperm bundles were observed in both testes, the hybrid was therefore potentially fertile.  相似文献

Previous work has shown that karyology may be a valuable technique for discriminating morphologically similar species. In the present study, chromosome number and morphology were described for three strigeid species, Ichthyocotylurus erraticus (Rudolphi, 1809), I. variegatus (Creplin, 1825) and Apatemon gracilis (Rudolphi, 1819). The results show that these species possess the same diploid number of chromosomes (2n = 20) in somatic cells. The relative length and the position of the centromere were determined, and significant inter-specific differences in the karyotypes are demonstrated, enabling the ready discrimination of I. erraticus and I. variegatus cercariae. A review of known karyotypes of the family Strigeidae suggests that possible routes of evolutionary changes involve pericentric inversions within chromosomes rather than Robertsonian translocations between elements.  相似文献

The prophase of the first meiotic division was studied in field mice of the species Apodemus (Sylvaemus) flavicollis, A. (S.) ponticus, and A. (S.) uralensis by light and electron microscopy. The karyotypes of the species were described on the base of electron microscopy of synaptonemal complexes in spermatocytes I. The axial elements of the sex chromosomes at early-middle pachytene can synapse along the major portion of the Y axis; at late pachytene-early diplotene, the synapsis region shrinks; and at diakinesis-metaphase I, X and Y chromosomes associate tail-to-tail in all species studied. The behavior of sex chromosomes in the synapsis in the species studied was quite uniform. The results are discussed in the context of earlier data on the behavior of sex chromosomes in various rodent species in meiosis prophase I and their banding.  相似文献

Larval morphology and polytene chromosomes of Chironomus anthracinus from eastern Kazakhstan have been described. Larvae have no lateral tubules on VII abdominal segment, but have paired ventral tubules on VIII abdominal segment. 2 n = 8 (A1.1 B1.1 C2.2 D1.1 E1.1 F1.1 G1.1). Two nucleoli are present in arms IVG and IIIF. Mapping of chromosomes, apart from antC2 arm, was performed after Shobanov (1996). B-chromosomes have been discovered in this species for the first time (in 19.4% individuals). Heterozygous inversions occurred in arms LA and IIIE in 46% of individuals. Compared to C. anthracinus from Yaroslavl Region, differences in morphology and karyology observed in this species from eastern Kazakhstan are related to habitation of the population examined in the deep-water Lake Markakol on the boundary of the area range.  相似文献

The whole-mount SC preparations from males of three species of the genus Ellobius (Ellobius fuscocapillus, Ellobius lutescens), and Ellobius tancrei were studied by electron microscopy. In the males of Ellobius fuscocapillus, behavioral peculiarities of the sex bivalent (viz. the normal male heterozygosity) are characterized by early complete desynapsis of sex chromosomes (X, Y), occurring at late pachytene-early diplotene. The karyotype of species Ellobius lutescens is unique for mammals. In both sexes it is characterized by an odd number of chromosomes (2n=17). At prophase I the unpaired chromosome 9 is not involved in synapsis with other chromosomes and forms a sex body at the end of pachytene.The complete Robertsonian fan has been described for superspecies Ellobius tancrei. As shown on the basis of G-band patterns the male and female sex chromosomes are cytologically indistinguishable.Analysis of whole-mount SC preparations revealed the formation of a closed sex SC bivalent and showed some morphological differences in the axes of sex chromosomes at meiotic prophase I. A number of assumptions are made about the relationship between the behavior of sex chromosomes, their evolution and the sex determination system in the studied species of genus Ellobius.

Differential C-banding of chromosomes and in situ hybridization with the probes pTa71 and pTa794 were used for a comparative cytogenetic study of the three tetraploid oat species with the A and C genomes: Avena insularis, A. magna, and A. murphyi. These species were similar in the structure and patterns of C-banding of several chromosomes as well as in the location of the loci 5S rRNA genes and main NOR sites; however, they differed in the number and localization of minor 45S rDNA loci as well as in the morphology and distribution of heterochromatin in some chromosomes. According to the data obtained, A. insularis is closer to A. magna, whereas A. murphyi is somewhat separated from these two species. Presumably, all the three studied species originated from the same tetraploid ancestor, and their divergence is connected with various species-specific chromosome rearrangements. The evolution of A. murphyi is likely to have occurred independently of the other two species.  相似文献

Chromosomes from cultured fibroblasts of four cottontail species (Sylvilagus audubonii, 2n = 42; S. idahoensis, 2n = 44; S. nuttallii, 2n = 42; and S. palustris, 2n = 38) were analyzed using G- and C-banding techniques. The evolutionary restructuring of the genomes of these species was traced by comparing their banded chromosomes to those of Lepus saxatilis, a species of hare in which the leporid ancestral karyotype is thought to have been conserved. Chromosomal evolution appears to have proceeded primarily through changes in the amount and distribution of heterochromatin and through fixation of Robertsonian fusions. Excluding heterochromatic differences, S. audubonii and S. nuttallii are karyotypically very similar, as are S. aquaticus and S. palustris (previously reported). The genome of the taxonomically controversial species S. idahoensis, compared to other cottontail species, is markedly impoverished in C-band material. These data and those of cottontail species previously described in the literature are incorporated in two alternative phylogenetic schemes.  相似文献

Statistical aspects of genetic mapping in autopolyploids.   总被引:8,自引:0,他引:8  
Many plant species of agriculture importance are polyploid, having more than two copies of each chromosome per cell. In this paper, we describe statistical methods for genetic map construction in autopolyploid species with particular reference to the use of molecular markers. The first step is to determine the dosage of each DNA fragment (electrophoretic band) from its segregation ratio. Fragments present in a single dose can be used to construct framework maps for individual chromosomes. Fragments present in multiple doses can often be used to link the single chromosome maps into homologous groups and provide additional ordering information. Marker phenotype probabilities were calculated for pairs of markers arranged in different configurations among the homologous chromosomes. These probabilities were used to compute a maximum likelihood estimator of the recombination fraction between pairs of markers. A likelihood ratio test for linkage of multidose markers was derived. The information provided by each configuration and power and sample size considerations are also discussed. A set of 294 RFLP markers scored on 90 plants of the species Saccharum spontaneum L. was used to illustrate the construction of an autopolyploid map. Previous studies conducted on the same data revealed that this species of sugar cane is an autooctaploid with 64 chromosomes arranged into eight homologous groups. The methodology described permitted consolidation of 54 linkage groups into ten homologous groups.  相似文献

Abstract Examination of the chromosomes shows that Helophorus grandis Ill. is a species quite separate from H.maritimus Rey. Further investigation shows that while the karyotype of H.grandis is the same in populations from southern England, northern and central France, and the northern half of Spain, that of H.maritimus from the Camargue is sufficiently different from supposed maritimus from central Spain for the Spanish specimens to be regarded as a separate species, here described as H.occidentalis sp.n. Aedeagophores of the three species are figured, along with additional maritimus -like material.
No aedeagal or other morphological features for distinguishing maritimus and Occidentalis have been discovered. The implications of the discovery of two species of an H.maritimus complex are discussed.  相似文献
