A 3D printed stereotaxic head mount that enables high resolution imaging of the anterior chamber of the eye in alert and freely mobile mice is designed in this study. The system is placed non‐invasively using temporal mount bars and a snout mount, without breaking the skin or risking suffocation, while an endoscopic channel stabilizes the ocular probes. A false‐colored and merged image of fresh, ex vivo rat kidney acquired using an excitation‐scanning hyperspectral imaging system. Raman spectroscopy was employed as a nondestructive technique for the analysis of dry traces of oral fluid to differentiate between smoker and nonsmoker donors with the aid of advanced statistical tools. A genetic algorithm (GA) was used to determine eight spectral regions that contribute the most to the differentiation of smokers and nonsmokers. The family of vibrational spectroscopic imaging techniques grows every few years and there is a need to compare and contrast new modalities with the better understood ones. Three vibrational spectroscopy techniques (High Definition FT‐IR, Raman and AFM‐IR) were applied for subcellular chemical imaging of cholesteryl esters in PC‐3 prostate cancer cells. Probing amyloid formation of intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) in aqueous solutions with ionic liquids (ILs) could help identify the IL–IDP interactions causing the process in this media. Takekiyo et al. report that ethylammonium nitrate (EAN) initiates the formation of intermolecular β-sheet structure – amyloid-like aggregates – of α-synuclein. The cations and anions of EAN function as charges to mask side chains, leading to the formation of a polyproline II helix that assists the formation of α-synuclein aggregates. The present results could help develop promoting agents for amyloid aggregates in biomaterials science. (DOI: 10.1002/bip.23352)

A novel 0.9 mm-diameter intravascular photoacoustic catheter with coaxial excitation and detection was developed to overcome the limitation of imaging range. A miniature ring-shaped ultrasound transducer with a 0.18 mm-diameter orifice in the center was successfully fabricated. The results demonstrated that the coaxial catheter exhibited much better photoacoustic/ultrasound imaging performance from the intima to the adventitia. Confocal Raman microscopy provides composition and constitution of label-free samples at high spatial-resolution. In this study, the histology of atherosclerotic arteries was measured using a custom-built confocal Raman microscopy that was developed to improve imaging speed, diffraction efficiency, and spectral resolution. Additionally, the machine learning method was used to enhance the accuracy of classification. Results show that each layer of arteries and lipid-rich inflamed plaque can be successfully characterized.
