The reactions of Ru(NH3)5py2+, Ru(NH3)4bpy2+, Ru2(NH3)10pz5+, RuRh(NH3)10pz5+ and Ru(NH3)5pz2+ with bromine are first-order in ruthenium and first-order in bromine. The rates decrease with increasing bromide ion concentration and, except for Ru(NH3)5pz2+, are independent of hydrogen ion concentration. The reactions are postulated to proceed via outer-sphere, one-electron transfer from Ru(II) to Br2 with the formation of Br2 as a reactive intermediate. The bromide inhibition is ascribed to the formation of Br3 which is unreactive in outer-sphere reactions because of the barrier imposed by the need to undergo reductive cleavage. The reaction of Ru(NH3)5pz2+ is inhibited by hydrogen ions. The hydrogen ion dependence shows that Ru(NH3)5pzH3+ has a pKa of 2.49 and is at least 500 times less reactive than Ru(NH3)5pz2+. The reaction of Ru2(NH3)10pz4+ with bromine is biphasic. The second phase has a rate identical to that of the Ru2(NH3)10pz5+-Br2 reaction. A detailed analysis shows that the reaction of Ru2(NH3)10pz4+ with bromine proceeds by a sequence of one-electron steps, Br2 being produced as an intermediate. A linear free energy relationship between rate constants and equilibrium constants, obeyed for all the reactions studied, provides an estimate of 1.5 × 102 M−1 s−1 for the self-exchange rate constant of the Br2/Br2 couple.  相似文献

The kinetics of formation and dissociation of mono and bis complexes of Zn(II) with reduced glutathione (H4L+ = fully protonated form) were studied in aqueous solution at 25.0 +/- 0.1 degrees C and ionic strength 0.30 M (NaNO3) in the pH range 4.58 to 4.98 by temperature-jump. The reaction was found to proceed via two different mechanisms depending on degree of ligand protonation. In both cases, complex formation is predominantly if not completely through the sulfur. Reaction with the form HL-2 (only the amino nitrogen protonated), the dominant form of this species, proceeds by the expected rat limiting water loss (dissociative or Eigen) mechanism with rate constants of 9.3 X 10(7) M-1 sec-1 (+/- 24%) for mono and 5.1 X 10(7) M-1 sec-1 (+/- 25%) for bis complex formation. Reaction with H2L--(sulfur protonated) yields rate constants of 3.9 X 10(3) M-1 sec-1 (+/- 43%) for mono and 1.95 X 10(3) M-1 sec-1 (+/- 43%) for bis complex formation. The decrease in rate constant is attributed to blockage of the complexing site on reduced glutathione by intramolecular hydrogen bonding, with proton removal being the rate determining step.  相似文献

The present study examines the kinetics and mechanism of the system [FePDTA(OH)]2− + 5CN ⇌ [Fe(CN)5OH]3− + PDTA4− at pH= 11.0±0.02, I= 0.25 M and temperature = 25 ± 0.1 °C. The reaction has been studied spectrophotometrically at 395 nm (λmax of [Fe(CN)5OH]3−). The data show that the reaction has three distinguishable stages; the first stage is formation of [Fe(CN)5OH]3−, the second is conversion of [Fe(CN)5OH)]3− to [Fe(CN)6]3− and last is reduction of [Fe(CN)6]3− to [Fe(CN)6]3− by the released ligand, viz., PDTA. The first reaction shows variable order dependence on cyanide concentration, one at high cyanide concentration and two at low cyanide concentration. The second reaction exhibits first order dependence on the concentration of [Fe(CN)5OH]3− as well as cyanide. The reverse reaction between [Fe(CN)5OH]3− and PDTA is first order in [Fe(CN)5OH]3− and PDTA, and inverse first order in cyanide. On the basis of forward and reverse rate studies, a five-step mechanism has been proposed for the first reaction.  相似文献

The oxidation of oxalic acid by tetrachloroaurate(III) ion in 0.005 ? [HClO4] ? 0.5 mol dm−3 is first order in and a fractional order in [oxalic acid], the reactive entities being AuCl3(OH) and ions. The pseudo first-order rate, kobs, with respect to [Au(III)], is retarded by increasing [H+] and [Cl]. The retardation by H+ ion is caused by the dissociation equilibrium . A mechanism in which a substitution complex, is formed from AuCl3(OH) and ions prior to its rate limiting disproportionation into products is suggested. The rate limiting constant, k, has been evaluated and its activation parameters are reported. The equilibrium constant K1 for the formation of the substitution complex and its thermodynamic parameters are also reported.  相似文献

The kinetics of malonate replacement in bis- (malonato)oxovanadate(IV), [VO(mal)2H2O]2−(hereafter water molecule will be omitted), by oxalate has been studied by the stopped-flow method. The reaction was found to consist of two consecutive steps (k1 and k2: first-order rate constants) passing through a mixed ligand complex, [VO(mal)(ox)]2−. The rates for each step depended linearly on the concentrations of free oxalate species, Hox and ox2−. The second-order rate constants for the replacement by ox2− were much larger in the k1 step than in the k2 step and the activation parameters were determined as follows: ΔH= 43.5 ± 5.6 kJ mol−1, ΔS±-53 ± 19 J K−1 mol−1 and ΔH≠= 43.6 ± 0.5 kJ mol−1, δS≠ = -62 ± 2 J K−l mol−1 for the k1 and k2 steps, respectively. The volume of activation was determined to be -0.65 ± 0.75 cm3 mol−1 at 20.2 °C by the high-pressure stopped-flow method for the apparent rate constants.  相似文献

The kinetics of the reduction of hexacyanoferrate(III) by myoglobin was studied as a function of temperature and pressure. The results of the study show that both oxy- and deoxymyoglobin are redox active species. The rate and activation parameters underline the operation of an outer-sphere electron transfer mechanism for the studied system. Received: 9 December 1996 / Accepted: 16 June 1997  相似文献

A detailed investigation on the oxidation of aqueous sulfite and aqueous potassium hexacyanoferrate(II) by the title complex ion has been carried out using the stopped-flow technique over the ranges, 0.01≤[S(IV)]T≤0.05 mol dm−3, 4.47≤pH≤5.12, and 24.9≤θ≤37.6 °C and at ionic strength 1.0 mol dm−3 (NaNO3) for aqueous sulfite and 0.01≤[Fe(CN)6 4−]≤0.11 mol dm−3, 4.54≤pH≤5.63, and 25.0≤θ≤35.3 °C and at ionic strength 1.0 or 3.0 mol dm−3 (NaNO3) for the hexacyanoferrate(II) ion. Both redox processes are dependent on pH and reductant concentration in a complex manner, that is, for the reaction with aqueous sulfite, kobs={(k1K1K2K3+k2K1K4[H+])[S(IV)]T]/([H+]2+K1[H+]+K1K2) and for the hexacyanoferrate(II) ion, kobs={(k1K3K4K5+k2K3K6[H+])[Fe(CN)6 4−]T)/([H+]2+K3[H+]+K3K4). At 25.0 °C, the value of k1′ (the composite of k1K3) is 0.77±0.07 mol−1 dm3 s−1, while the value of k2′ (the composite of k2K4) is (3.78±0.17)×10−2 mol−1 dm3 s−1 for aqueous sulfite. For the hexacyanoferrate(II) ion, k1′ (the composite of k1K5) is 1.13±0.01 mol−1 dm3 s−1, while the value of k2′ (the composite of k2K6) is 2.36±0.05 mol−1 dm3 s−1 at 25.0 °C. In both cases there was reduction of the cobalt(III) centre to cobalt(II), but there was no reduction of the molybdenum(VI) centre. k22, the self-exchange rate constant, for aqueous sulfite (as SO3 2−) was calculated to be 5.37×10−12 mol−1 dm3 s−1, while for Fe(CN)6 4−, it was calculated to be 1.10×109 mol−1 dm3 s−1 from the Marcus equations.  相似文献

Square-pyramidal (Ph3X)bis(4,5-dichloro-1,2-benzosemiquinonediiminato)cobalt(III) complexes (X = As, Sb or P) have been synthesized. The kinetics of axial substitution for the triphenylantimony complex have been studied for 10 entering ligands (L*). The reaction is of reversible second-order in both directions for all complexes. Labile behavior is indicated by the rate constants in the range from 6.33 × 103 (for L* = Ph3P in MeOH) to 5.4 (L* = py in CH2Cl2) M−1 s−1. The kinetics is consistent with an Ia mechanism. The log of the second-order rate constant for axial substitution is a linear function of nucleophilic reactivity nPt°, which is due to the trans-labilizing effect of the entering ligand in the six-coordinate transition state.  相似文献

trans -[PtCl4(NH3)(thiazole)] (1), trans-[PtCl4(cha)(NH3)] (2), cis-[PtCl4(cha)(NH3)] (3) (cha =cyclohexylamine), and cis-[PtCl4(NH3)2] (4) has been investigatedat 25 °C in a 1.0 M aqueous medium at pH 2.0–5.0 (1) and 4.5–6.8 (24) using stopped-flow spectrophotometry. The redox reactions follow the second-order rate law , where k is a pH-dependent rate constant and [GSH]tot the total concentration of glutathione. The reduction takes place via parallel reactions between the platinum(IV) complexes and the various protolytic species of glutathione. The pH dependence of the redox kinetics is ascribed to displacement of these protolytic equilibria. The thiolate species GS is the major reductant under the reaction conditions used. The second-order rate constants for reduction of compounds 14 by GS are (1.43±0.01)×107, (3.86±0.03)×106, (1.83±0.01)×106, and (1.18±0.01)×106 M−1 s−1, respectively. Rate constants for reduction of 1 by the protonated species GSH are more than five orders of magnitude smaller. The mechanism for the reductive elimination reactions of the Pt(IV) compounds is proposed to involve an attack by glutathione on one of the mutually trans coordinated chloride ligands, leading to two-electron transfer via a chloride-bridged activated complex. The kinetics results together with literature data indicate that platinum(IV) complexes with a trans Cl-Pt-Cl axis are reduced rapidly by glutathione as well as by ascorbate. In agreement with this observation, cytotoxicity profiles for such complexes are very similar to those for the corresponding platinum(II) product complexes. The rapid reduction within 1 s of the platinum(IV) compounds with a trans Cl-Pt-Cl axis to their platinum(II) analogs does not seem to support the strategy of using kinetic inertness as a parameter to increase anticancer activity, at least for this class of compounds. In the absence of redox-active transition metal ions, the removal of Tempol by Trolox occurs by a simple bimolecular reaction that, most probably, involves a hydrogen transfer from phenol to nitroxide. The specific rate constant of the process is small (0.1 M -1 s -1 ). Metals can catalyze the process, as evidenced by the decrease in rate observed in the presence of diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA). Furthermore, addition of Fe(II) (20 μM ferrous sulfate and 40 μM EDTA) produces a noticeable increase in the rate of Tempol consumption.

The kinetics and mechanism of Fe(III) reduction to Fe(II) were studied in pure batch cultures of Pseudomonas sp. 200. The rate of iron reduction has been mechanistically related to aqueous phase iron speciation. In the absence of microbial activity the iron reduction rate was negligible. Initial rates of microbial iron reduction were accelerated more than 20-fold by the addition of equimolar quantities of nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA) to media initially containing 1.86 x 10(-3)M total Fe(III). Numerical techniques were utilized to quantify relationships between the observed rate of Fe(II) production and the calculated (equilibrium) aqueous phase speciation. These results indicate that soluble ferric iron species are not equivalent in terms of their susceptibility to bacterial (dissimilative) iron reduction. The concentration of Fe(NTA)(OH)(2) (2-) correlated strongly with observed iron reduction rates. Ferrous iron species appeared to inhibit the reduction process.  相似文献

The reaction of 3,4-dihydroxyphenylpropionic acid (dihydrocaffeic acid, hydcafH3) with chromium(III) in weak acidic aqueous solutions has been shown to take place through various oxygen-bonded intermediates. The formation of the oxygen-bonded complexes upon substitution of water molecules of the chromium(III) coordination sphere takes place in at least three stages, the first of which has an observed rate constant k1(obs)=k1K0'[hydcafH3]/[H+] where K0' corresponds to the Cr(H2O)6(3+) complex dissociation equilibrium. The second and third stages are ligand concentration independent and are thus attributed to isomerisation and chelation processes. The corresponding activation parameters are DeltaH2(not equal)=78+/-3 kJmol(-1), DeltaS2(not equal)=-49+/-9 JK(-1)mol(-1), DeltaH3(not equal)=60+/-9 kJmol(-1) and DeltaS3(not equal)=-112+/-39 JK(-1)mol(-1). The kinetic results support associative mechanisms and the nature of the electronic spectra a catecholic-type of coordination at the pH and concentration range studied and reported in this paper. The associatively activated substitution processes are accompanied by proton release causing a pH decrease. At lower acid concentration oxidation of the ligand takes place with concomitant high increase in the UV and VIS absorbance.  相似文献
