1. Wistar rats of both sexes received vanadium in drinking water in the amount of 23-29 mg/kg body weight in the form of ammonium metavanadate (AMV) for a period of 2, 4 and 8 weeks. 2. Animals treated in this way ate less food and drank less AMV solution as compared with the amount of water consumed by the controls; they suffered from diarrhoea, and owing to this the increment in body weight was reduced. 3. Vanadium decreased erythropoiesis and maturation of red blood cells, which was expressed by a reduced erythrocyte count and haemoglobin level and increased reticulocyte and polychromatophilic erythrocyte count in the peripheral blood. 4. The composition percentage of the bone marrow cells and the peripheral blood leukocyte count did not undergo noticeable changes under the influence of vanadium.  相似文献

The influence of acute normobaric hypoxia on NO metabolites level of the blood serum in volunteers at respiration of hypoxic gas mixture containing 8 % of O2 during 25 min was investigated. Health status of participants and the hypoxia intensity were monitored with a complex of indexes: EEC, ECG, blood pressure, oxygen saturation of haemoglobin, cardiac output, gas composition of exhaled air. Cluster analysis (k-means clustering) conducted among volunteers that have successfully passed the test has shown presence of two groups differing in NO metabolites level during experiment. Statistically significant differences on NO metabolites level between groups were observed before hypoxia exposure, on 10th minute of acute hypoxia (maximum difference) and on 5th minute of recovery. Differences on NO metabolites level between groups have been caused by changes in nitrates concentration whereas nitrites level did not differ. The least NO and nitrates levels have been revealed in volunteers that have been in volunteers that had interrupted performance of the test after 10 minutes of respiration of hypoxic gas mixture. Thus the moderate increase of NO metabolites level due to accumulation of nitrates at acute hypoxia testifies to good adaptive reserves of system of nitric oxide generation in organism.  相似文献

Nitrates in drinking water has been associated to adverse health effects, including changes in glucose and lipid levels, thyroid hormone imbalance and adverse reproductive effects. We analyzed metabolic and thyroid hormone alterations and genotoxic damage in women with chronic exposure to nitrates in drinking water. The concentration of nitrates in drinking water was quantified and according to this parameter, participants were divided into three exposure scenarios. Blood and urine samples were collected from 420 women living in Durango, Mexico and biomarkers were determined. We found nitrates concentrations in drinking water above the permissible limit (>50 mg/L), and an increase in the percentage of methemoglobin (p=0.0001), nitrite in blood plasma and urine (p=0.0001), glucose (p=0.0001), total cholesterol (p=0.001), LDL (p=0.001) and triglycerides (p=0.0001). We also found alterations in TSH (p=0.01), fT3 (p=0.0003), T4T (p=0.01) and fT4 (p=0.0004) hormones. Frequency of subclinical hypothyroidism was 8.33%; differences in FOXE1 (rs965513, rs1867277) genotypes distribution were found and both polymorphisms were associated with a decrease in TSH. A high percentage of micronucleus in binucleate lymphocyte cells was found (35%, p=0.0001). In conclusion, the chronic exposure to nitrates in water for human consumption caused metabolic and hormonal alterations and genotoxic damage in women.  相似文献

The effect of food deprivation on the pulsatile release of LH was examined in the normal cycling and the ovariectomized (OVX) adult female rat. In the cycling animals, there were significant decreases in the mean plasma LH levels as well as the frequency and amplitude of the LH pulse 48 h after the onset of food deprivation. On the other hand, food deprivation for up to 72 h did not cause any changes in pulsatile LH release in the OVX animals. No difference in the changes in body weight and blood glucose concentration were found between the cycling and OVX rats throughout the period of food deprivation for up to 96 h. These findings suggest that ovarian factors play an important role in the early manifestation of the effect of food deprivation on pulsatile LH release and that metabolic changes as expressed by decreases in body weight and blood glucose level per se were not the direct causes in the decrease of LH release during the period of food deprivation.  相似文献

Pain sensitivity of food and/or water-deprived male mice was tested on a hotplate. The most pronounced analgesia ensued in animals given no food and water, and no food but water ad libitum, the least one in water-deprived mice. The magnitude of the rise in pain threshold depended on the duration of deprivation and was correlated with the increase in the blood plasma beta-endorphin level. In the hypothalamus beta-endorphin level increased after 72-h food deprivation only. The level of dynorphin remained unchanged. Naloxone (10 mg/kg) almost completely reversed food or water-deprivation induced analgesia.  相似文献

Various peripheral blood and bone marrow parameters were determined during food and water deprivation and during food deprivation alone in order to obtain base lines that may be used to make comparisons with similar data from irradiated mice. The peripheral blood parameters following food and water deprivation were similar to those following food deprivation alone. The mean survival time was about 5 days and the weight loss 40% of the control weight. There was an absolute decrease in the total circulating lymphocyte and platelet counts, while the total granulocyte count remained unchanged or increased. The blood volume decreased, while the hematocrit and specific gravity of the blood increased. The bone marrow parameters following food and water deprivation showed that erythropoiesis was more markedly depressed than myelopoiesis. The tritiated thymidine labeling index for granulopoietic cells and megakaryocytes decreased progressively during starvation. The variations in the white blood count and the bone marrow parameters are not comparable with those found in irradiated mice having the G.I. syndrome; the changes in mean survival time, weight loss, hematocrit, and blood volume are similar.  相似文献

An exchange of active forms of oxygen and nitric oxide in normal conditions and under the development of oxidative stress in humans with high of arterial blood pressure was studied. The activity of NO-synthase was estimated in the human thrombocytes. The nitric oxide formations were determined by the quantity level of its final metabolites--nitrites and nitrates. The peroxynitrite formations were determined by the quantity level of 3-nitrotyrosine. An analysis of the investigation results has shown the increase of processes of oxidative stress, violation of nitric oxide formation in humans with high arterial blood pressure. Application of ascorbic acid allows to reduce the level of free radicals and to increase the formation of nitric oxide, but does not result in statistically reliable changes of the parameters describing formation of peroxynitrite and products of peroxide oxidation of lipids in humans with high arterial blood pressure. Application of ascorbic acid does not result in changes of researched parameters in the control group.  相似文献

Zinc has a role in the synthesis, storage, and secretion of insulin, and has been suggested to be beneficial when used in the diabetic state. Effect of zinc intake in pregnant rats has been studied here on diabetized offspring. Pregnant rats were divided in two groups; the control group received normal food and water, and the experimental group received zinc sulfate during pregnancy and 3 weeks after offspring birth. Male offspring from the control (C) and experimental (E) groups were divided each in three groups: C1, fed with normal food and water; C2, diabetized with alloxan; C3, received zinc sulfate; E1, fed with normal food and water; E2, diabetized with alloxan; and E3, receiving zinc sulfate. After 30 days, the histological changes of pancreatic tissues were investigated by light microscopy. Body weight, blood glucose, serum insulin levels, food intake, water intake, and urine quantity were also compared between the groups. Water intake and urine quantity were decreased significantly (p?<?0.01and p?<?0.001) in E2 (experimental diabetic group) in comparison with C2 (control diabetic group), but there was no significant difference in the body weight in C2 in comparison with E2, while blood glucose was decreased significantly (p?<?0.001) and blood insulin level was increased significantly (p?<?0.01) in E2 in comparison with C2. Microscopic evaluation of pancreas showed that E2 were protected against alloxan-induced beta-cell degeneration. In conclusion, this work showed that maternal zinc intake may influence subsequent deleterious effects of diabetes on alloxan-diabetized offspring.  相似文献

1. Male Wistar rats were given, for four weeks, a limited amount of food, or the amount of food and water equal to that consumed by rats drinking solely an aqueous solution of ammonium metavanadate instead of water (AMV) of 0.3 mg V/cm3 concentration. 2. In rats with limited access to food but free access to water, a significant decrease of body weight increment was observed, together with an increase of the haemoglobin level and a decrease in the percentage of reticulocytes and polychromatophilic erythrocytes in the peripheral blood. 3. In the rats which did not receive food and water ad libitum a significant decrease of the body weight increment and an increase of the haemoglobin level were noted. 4. In animals drinking the aqueous AMV solution instead of water the body weight increment diminished significantly, and so did the erythrocyte count and haemoglobin level, whereas the percentage of reticulocytes and polychromatophilic erythrocytes increased in the peripheral blood.  相似文献

We investigated how lactating cows are able to cope with a sustained water restriction. In experiment 1, body weight and meal patterns were recorded with ad libitum access to water (baseline) and during 8 days of 25 and 50% restriction of drinking water relative to ad libitum intake. In experiment 2, indirect calorimetry was combined with nitrogen and energy balance and plasma hormone and metabolite measurements to assess the effects of 50% water restriction on digestion and metabolism. In experiment 1, food intake and body weight declined during the first 3 days of water restriction depending on the restriction level and stabilized thereafter at a lower level. The daily food intake reduction with 50% water restriction was entirely due to a reduction of meal size. The size of the first meal on every day was markedly (>50%) reduced with 25 and 50% water restriction. In experiment 2, urea concentrations in milk and blood as well as plasma sodium and hematocrit were increased by 50% water restriction. Energy balance was not affected by 50% water restriction, but nitrogen balance became negative, because, relative to intake, nitrogen excretion via urine and milk was higher. The lower energy intake during 50% water restriction was compensated by a lower milk production, a higher digestibility of organic matter and energy, and, apparently, a more efficient energy use. Through these changes and a preserved water balance, the cows reached a new equilibrium at a lower water turnover level, which enabled them to cope with a sustained drinking water restriction of 50%.  相似文献

Adult Glossina morsitans fed on aqueous salt solutions containing phagostimulant ATP in an in vitro feeding system gave an optimal feeding response only over a narrow pH range equivalent to that of vertebrate blood. There was much less discrimination on the basis of molar concentration.The rate and extent of water excretion by the fly was found to depend on the concentration of Na+ ions in the food medium: an active transport mechanism is indicated which enables water to pass from the meal through the anterior midgut wall and into the haemocoele. A favourable osmotic gradient assisted water transport in the presence of Na+ ions: the system could not operate efficiently in the presence of Na+ ions if the osmotic pressure of the food medium was higher than that of vertebrate blood, nor could it operate efficiently in any solution lacking Na+ ions.Normal transfer of a meal from the crop to the anterior midgut occurred only when the food medium was isotonic with vertebrate blood or in the presence of Na+ ions if hypotonic. Normal transfer of isotonic solutions was prevented in the presence of excess K+ ions, and hypertonic solutions were not transferred normally even in the presence of Na+ ions. Thus the rate of water excretion was reduced.Tsetse flies fed on blood in an in vitro feeding system excreted water at a significantly lower rate than flies fed on a living animal. Evidence suggests that this is due to a combined effect of changes in viscosity, effective ionic composition, and osmotic pressure, upon the normal rate and extent of food uptake and manipulation of the meal prior to digestion. The implications of this are discussed in terms of future developments of in vitro feeding techniques for haematophagous insects.  相似文献

Two-month-old Wistar rats of both sexes received, as sole drinking liquid, an aqueous solution of ammonium metavanadate (AMV) and zinc chloride (ZC) at concentrations of 0.30 mg V/cm3 and 0.12 mg Zn/cm3 respectively, for a period of 4 weeks.2. The reference groups received for drinking at this time: water, AMV or ZC solutions at the same concentration.3. In all groups of animals there was a statistically significant decrease in the uptake of food, AMV or ZC, as well AMV-ZC solutions, as compared with the food and water taken up by the control group.4. In the group of animals receiving AMV or AMV-ZC solution for drinking the body weight increment diminished significantly.5. In the animals drinking the AMV-ZC solution a statistically significant decrease in the erythrocyte count and haemoglobin level in the peripheral blood were recorded, similar to the groups drinking AMV or ZC solution.6. In rats drinking aqueous AMV or ZC solutions and in females receiving AMV-ZC solution the percentage of recticulocytes and polychromatophilic erythrocytes increased, moreover, in the peripheral blood. This study aimed to characterize the food intake by the fish assemblage inhabiting aquatic macrophytes stands, evaluating the changes in food availability among the periods of the hydrologic cycle and the trophic responses of the fish assemblage along with food availability. Fish sampling was conducted in stands of aquatic macrophytes (predominantly Paspalum repens, Poaceae) along banks of the Trombetas River during the four hydrologic periods (rising, high, receding, and low water level) that represent different phenological conditions of the habitat. The food consumption by the fish assemblage was analyzed for 41 species with stomach contents. The assemblage fed mainly on aquatic insects, periphytic algae and detritus. Food availability analysis showed that food resources changed among periods. Fifteen species were present in more than one period and most of those species showed dietary changes along with the hydrologic cycle, feeding mainly on invertebrates in the rising water period and periphytic algae and detritus in receding and low water periods. Only four species showed sufficient numbers to be analyzed in relation to diet and food availability along the at least three hydrologic periods, two of which showed a positive correlation between diet and food availability for three of the four periods; the other two species did not show this correlation, and presented omnivorous habits. In all cases, the selectivity values for the most important food items were near zero, indicating that intake was not motivated by feeding preference. Our results suggest that both trophic plasticity and omnivorous diets are important adaptations for species that inhabit temporally variable habitats such as aquatic macrophytes stands.  相似文献

大量动物实验和临床试验显示,氢气可能对疾病的预防或治疗有积极作用。尽管目前氢气的安全性已被广泛认可,但是长期氢气干预是否会对机体的生理功能产生影响还缺乏实验数据支持。为了探究长期饮用富氢水(hydrogen-rich water, HRW)对生理功能的影响,测试了长期饮用富氢水大鼠的体重、脏器重量、饮水进食及排泄量、心脏功能、血常规和血清生化指标。研究发现:富氢水对血常规/空腹血糖/肝功能无显著影响;富氢水能够显著提高大鼠血清甘油三酯水平(P<0.05),而胆固醇、胆汁酸和尿酸水平无显著变化;富氢水对大鼠心脏功能无显著影响;富氢水能够显著提高大鼠脑组织重量(P<0.05);富氢水对大鼠体重、其他脏器重量、饮食进水量和排泄量无显著影响。对富氢水干预后的长期影响效果的观察具有一定的基础研究价值和临床参考意义。  相似文献

Plasma corticosterone (CST) level and body weight were studied in male and female rats after bilateral pallidal lesion (GPL). The effect of high dose of glycocorticoids on body weight of food and water deprived, non-lesioned rats was also studied since high CST levels due to the stress caused by the aphagia and adipsia could be anticipated. Weight changes in lesioned-adrenalectomized animals were in investigated as well. A weight loss, higher in males than females, developed after the pallidal lesion and the CST level was higher in lesioned females than in lesioned males. This sex-difference was present in non-lesioned, food and water deprived animals as well. The weight loss was higher in lesioned males than in food and water deprived male/female controls. Adrenalectomy eliminated weight loss differences between the sexes after lesion, by reducing the weight loss in males. CST administration reduced body weight loss in food and water deprived males but not in familes, and cortisol facilitated it in both sexes.  相似文献

The effects of water temperature and food level on absorption efficiency, rate of oxygen consumption, molting rate, reproductive condition, energy content, and total production have been studied in the stalked barnacle, Pollicipes polymerus Sowerby. Absorption efficiency measured gravimetrically was high (≈94%) and unaffected by water temperature or food level. Absorption efficiency measured using an ash-ratio method was substantially less than that determined gravimetrically. The rate of oxygen consumption increased in the high food treatments and decreased in the starved treatment after 40 days. Molting rate, energy content, and total production were highest in the high food treatments. Reproduction was inhibited at warm water temperatures. The greater influence of food level than water temperature on production is probably related to the thermal regime experienced by these animals in the field.  相似文献

The combined effect of acute gamma-irradiation at doses of 0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 Gy and nitrates in concentrations of 0.04 g/dm3 (that corresponds to maximum permissible concentrations for fishery waters), 0.1, 0.25, 0.5, 1.0, 2.5 g/dm3 (that is close to NO3(-) level in water of a reservoir R-17 used as radioactive waste storage of the "Mayak" Production Association) and 5.0 g/dm3 (that is close to NO3(-) level in the water of radioactive waste storage reservoir R-9) on the unicellular green algae Scenedesmus quadricauda growth has been studied in laboratory conditions. It was shown that the joint effects of nitrates and y-radiation had an antagonistic character. Thus, it may be concluded that chemical pollution is the factor limiting the development of green algae in reservoir R-17; probably, both factors, chemical and radiating, are essential to the algocenosis degradation in reservoir R-9.  相似文献

The main aim of this study was to set up a new animal model to study insulin resistance. Wistar rats (6 or 7 per group) received the following for 4 wk in experiment 1: 1) vehicle, 2) 2 microg/day subcutaneous dexamethasone, 3) metformin (400 mg x kg(-1) x day(-1) os), and 4) dexamethasone plus metformin. In experiment 2 the rats received the following: 1) vehicle, 2) dexamethasone, 3) dexamethasone plus arginine (2%; as substrate of the nitric oxide synthase for nitric oxide production) in tap water, and 4) dexamethasone plus isosorbide dinitrate (70 mg/kg; as direct nitric oxide donor) in tap water. Insulin sensitivity was significantly reduced by dexamethasone already at week 1, before the increase in blood pressure (day 15) and without significant changes in body weight compared with vehicle. Dexamethasone-treated rats had significantly higher triglycerides, hematocrit, and insulin, whereas serum total nitrates/ nitrites were lower compared with vehicle. The concomitant treatment with metformin minimized all the described effects of dexamethasone. In experiment 2, only isosorbide dinitrate was able to prevent the observed dexamethasone-induced metabolic, hemodynamic, and insulin sensitivity changes. Chronic low-dose subcutaneous dexamethasone (2 microg/day) is a useful model to study the relationships between insulin resistance and blood pressure in the rat, and dexamethasone might decrease insulin sensitivity and increase blood pressure through an endothelium-mediated mechanism.  相似文献

Extensive ephemeral wetlands at Poyang Lake, created by dramatic seasonal changes in water level, constitute the main wintering site for migratory Anatidae in China. Reductions in wetland area during the last 15 years have led to proposals to build a Poyang Dam to retain high winter water levels within the lake. Changing the natural hydrological system will affect waterbirds dependent on water level changes for food availability and accessibility. We tracked two goose species with different feeding behaviors (greater white‐fronted geese Anser albifrons [grazing species] and swan geese Anser cygnoides [tuber‐feeding species]) during two winters with contrasting water levels (continuous recession in 2015; sustained high water in 2016, similar to those predicted post‐Poyang Dam), investigating the effects of water level change on their habitat selection based on vegetation and elevation. In 2015, white‐fronted geese extensively exploited sequentially created mudflats, feeding on short nutritious graminoid swards, while swan geese excavated substrates along the water edge for tubers. This critical dynamic ecotone successively exposes subaquatic food and supports early‐stage graminoid growth during water level recession. During sustained high water levels in 2016, both species selected mudflats, but also to a greater degree of habitats with longer established seasonal graminoid swards because access to tubers and new graminoid growth was restricted under high‐water conditions. Longer established graminoid swards offer less energetically profitable forage for both species. Substantial reduction in suitable habitat and confinement to less profitable forage by higher water levels is likely to reduce the ability of geese to accumulate sufficient fat stores for migration, with potential carryover effects on subsequent survival and reproduction. Our results suggest that high water levels in Poyang Lake should be retained during summer, but permitted to gradually recede, exposing new areas throughout winter to provide access for waterbirds from all feeding guilds.  相似文献

洞庭湖是小天鹅在我国的重要越冬地之一,为探讨洞庭湖水位变动对越冬小天鹅活动的影响,本研究于2014-2015年利用卫星跟踪技术对洞庭湖自然保护区18只越冬小天鹅活动轨迹进行跟踪,采用最小凸多边形(MCP)和核心密度估计(KDE)方法估算了越冬中、后期不同水位条件下小天鹅的家域。同时,基于MODIS遥感数据提取洞庭湖水体面积、计算水体淹没时间指数(STI),进而开展了水位与家域关系、栖息地选择模式等方面的分析和探讨。结果表明:水位对小天鹅家域起制约作用,随着水位上升小天鹅家域范围会明显减小;越冬期间小天鹅喜好在空间相邻的浅水和草地综合性区域活动,食物资源分布和可获得性是小天鹅活动区发生改变的主要原因。  相似文献
