Estimates of bacterial production based on total trichloroacetic acid (TCA)-precipitable [methyl-3H]thymidine incorporation and frequency of dividing cell (FDC) techniques were compared to sediment respiration rates in Lake George, New York. Bacterial growth rates based on thymidine incorporation ranged from 0.024 to 0.41 day–1, while rates based on FDC ranged from 1.78 to 2.48 day–1. Respiration rates ranged from 0.11 to 1.8mol O2·hour–1·g dry weight sediment–1. Thymidine incorporation yielded production estimates which were in reasonable agreement with respiration rates. Production estimates based on FDC were 4- to 190-fold higher than those predicted from respiration rates.  相似文献

Summary Daily rates of gross and net primary production were calculated in the Scotia-Weddell Sea sector of the Southern Ocean during spring 1988 (EPOS, Leg 2) on the basis of kinetic experiments, which combine radiotracer technology and classic biochemical procedures, and by taking into account the light regime, the physical structure of the water column, the vertical distribution of chlorophyll a, and the protozoan grazing pressure. From these calculations, three distinct sub-areas were identified: the Closed Pack Ice Zone (CPIZ), characterized by the lowest average gross primary production (0.36 gC · m–2 · day–1); the Marginal Ice Zone (MIZ) with a maximum mean value of 1.76 gC · m–2 · day–1; and the Open Ocean Zone off the ice edge (OOZ) with an intermediate mean value of 0.87 gC · m–2 · day–1. Net primary production fluctuated nearly in the same proportions, averaging 0.55, 0.2 and 1.13 gC · m–2 · day–1 in the OOZ, CPIZ and MIZ respectively, representing 53% of the total photo-assimilated carbon under heavy ice cover (CPIZ) and 64% in the two other areas. Available light, strongly dependent on the ice cover, was shown to control the level of primary production in the sea ice associated sub-areas, whilst protozoa grazing on phytoplankton determined the moderate primary production level characteristic of the well illuminated OOZ area.Data presented here were collected during the European Polarstern Study (EPOS) sponsored by the European Science Foundation  相似文献

Fractional rates (% · day–1) of synthesis and degradation were determined by measuring the output of N-methylhistidine (MeHis) in the excreta at 4 and 8 weeks of age in the chicken. At 4 weeks of age, the fractional rate of synthesis of the meat-type stock was twice that of the egg-type stock (White Leghorn), but the fractional rates of synthesis at 8 weeks of age were similar (4.1–5.1% · day–1) among stocks. The fractional rate of degradation (1.3–1.5% · day–1) of the meat-type stock at 8 weeks of age was less than half the rate of the egg-type stock (2.9% · day–1). The fractional rates of synthesis and degradation at 4 weeks of age in the Satsuma native fowl were relatively high compared with those in the other stocks. In particular, the rate of degradation (8.6% · day–1) at 4 weeks of age was approximately twice that of other stocks. These results show that fractional rates of synthesis and degradation of muscle protein in the chicken differ among genetically diverse groups. The effect of changes in rates of synthesis and degradation on the change in fractional growth rate also differed. From regression coefficients (bK s · FGR and bK d · FGR) of these rates in skeletal muscle protein on the fractional growth rate, it was recognized that the change in growth rate accompanies the changes in both synthesis and degradation in White Leghorn and commercial broilers but only the change in synthesis in White Plymouth Rock (dw) and Satsuma native fowl.  相似文献

The effects of light intensity, oxygen concentration, and pH on the rates of photosynthesis and net excretion by metalimnetic phytoplankton populations of Little Crooked Lake, Indiana, were studied. Photosynthetic rates increased from 1.42 to 3.14 mg C·mg–1 chlorophylla·hour–1 within a range of light intensities from 65 to 150E·m–2·sec–1, whereas net excretion remained constant at 0.05 mg C·mg–1 chlorophylla·hour–1. Bacteria assimilated approximately 50% of the carbon released by the phytoplankton under these conditions. Excreted carbon (organic compounds either assimilated by bacteria or dissolved in the lake water) was produced by phytoplankton at rates of 0.02–0.15 mg C·mg–1 chlorophylla·hour–1. These rates were 6%–13% of the photosynthetic rates of the phytoplankton. Both total excretion of carbon and bacterial assimilation of excreted carbon increased at high light intensities whereas net excretion remained fairly constant. Elevated oxygen concentrations in samples incubated at 150E· m–2·sec–1 decreased rates of both photosynthesis and net excretion. The photosynthetic rate increased from 3.0 to 5.0 mg C·mg–1 chlorophylla· hour–1 as the pH was raised from 7.5 to 8.8. Net excretion within this range decreased slightly. Calculation of total primary production using a numerical model showed that whereas 225.8 g C·m–2 was photosynthetically fixed between 12 May and 24 August 1982, a maximum of about 9.3 g C·m–2 was released extracellularly.  相似文献

Population dynamics of bacteria in Arctic sea ice   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
The dynamics of bacterial populations in annual sea ice were measured throughout the vernal bloom of ice algae near Resolute in the Canadian Arctic. The maximum concentration of bacteria was 6.0·1011 cells·m–2 (about 2.0·1010 cells·l–1) and average cell volume was 0.473 m3 in the lower 4 cm of the ice sheet. On average, 37% of the bacteria were epiphytic and were most commonly attached (70%) to the dominant alga,Nitzschia frigida (58% of total algal numbers). Bacterial population dynamics appeared exponential, and specific growth rates were higher in the early season (0.058 day–1), when algal biomass was increasing, than in the later season (0.0247 day–1), when algal biomass was declining. The proportion of epiphytes and the average number of epiphytes per alga increased significantly (P<0.05) through the course of the algal bloom. The net production of bacteria was 67.1 mgC·m–2 throughout the algal bloom period, of which 45.5 mgC·m–2 occurred during the phase of declining algal biomass. Net algal production was 1942 mgC·m–2. Sea ice bacteria (both arctic and antarctic) are more abundant than expected on the basis of relationships between bacterioplankton and chlorophyll concentrations in temperate waters, but ice bacteria biomass and net production are nonetheless small compared with the ice algal blooms that presumably support them.  相似文献

Summary The plasma levels of four osmoregulatory hormones and their target ion-transport systems in the lower intestines of the domestic fowl were determined in order to elucidate their interrelationship and their setpoints in relation to NaCl intake. White Plymouth Rock hens were adapted to six intake levels of NaCl (0.20±0.02–24.7±1.9 mmoles Na+·kg bw–1·day–1) for 6 weeks. The Na+ absorption and the Cl secretion of colon and coprodeum were characterized in vitro by the effects of hexoses, amino acids, amiloride, and theophylline on the short-circuit current (SCC) and electrical potential difference (PD). The NaCl-conserving system of the adult chicken is set at low intake levels of NaCl as the 80% range (quantitized by non-linear, logistic regression analyses) of the change in the plasma [ALDO], the amiloride-inhibitable Na+ absorption of coprodeum and colon ( SCC), occurred from 0.18 to 2.3, from 0.9 to 4.3, and from 1.2 to 7.3 mmoles Na+·kg bw–1·day–1, respectively. These results demonstrate that the amiloride-inhibitable Na+ absorption of coprodcum is more closely linked to plasma [ALDO] than that of colon. The aminoacid-Na+ coabsorption of colon increased over exactly the same range of Na+ intake as the colonic amiloride-inhibitable Na+ absorption decreased, whereas the hexose-Na+ coabsorption increased at higher levels of Na+ intake, from 2 to 11 mmoles Na+·kg bw–1·day–1. Both these Na+ absorption types had reached their maximums at 24.7 mmoles Na+·kg bw–1·day–1, whereas the plasma [AVT] and plasma [PRL], although significantly increased, apparently had not; their 80% range of change occurred from 9.9 to 99 mmoles Na+·kg bw–1·day–1, and the main changes in plasma osmolity were predicted to occur from 5.4 to 107 mmoles Na+·kg bw–1·day–1. These results suggest that these colonic and hormonal variables conserve osmotically-free water and operate at high NaCl intake. The theophylline-induced colonic Cl secretion did not change with NaCl intake, whereas the stimulation of SCC in coprodeum decreased with increasing NaCl intake: The main change occurred between 0 and 3.2 mmoles Na+·kg bw–1·day–1. Thus, all ion-transport capacity disappears in coprodeum with increased dietary NaCl intake, whereas colon maintains its ion-transport capacity (although the nature of the Na+ transport changes). It is suggested that hormones defending the extracellular volume and composition are regulated close to zero input and output of both NaCl and water, regardless of whether they are NaCl conserving or free-water conserving. Therefore, changes in their stable plasma concentrations occur at the extremes of tolerable range of NaCl intake.Abbreviation AA aminoacids - ALDO aldosterone - AMI amiloride - AVT arginine vasotocin - bw body weight - CS corticosterone - HEX hexoses - INDO indomethacin - PD potential difference - PRL prolactin - R resistance - SCC short-circuit current - SD standard deviation - SEM standard error of mean - THEO theophylline  相似文献

The CO2 gas exchange rates of the Central European perennial understory plantAsarum europaeum L. were measured in late autumn (October 30 to November 30) in its natural habitat day and night.During these measurements the temperature ranged from 0 to 15°C and the absolute air humidity from 3 to 10 mg H2O·1–1. Temperature and absolute air humidity over these ranges did not affect CO2 net assimilation which was determined almost entirely by quantum flux density.CO2 net assimilation was light saturated at about 100 M·m–2·s–1 quantum flux density. The uptake rate at this point was 4.3 mg·dm–2·h–1. The compensation point occurred at approximately 1 M·m–2·s–1.  相似文献

Eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and docosahexaenoic (DHA) acid productivities from chemostat cultures of an isolate of Isochrysis galbana have been studied. The productivities reached in the interval of dilution rates between 0.0295 h–1 and 0.0355 h–1 were 1.5mg·1–1·h–1 for lipids, 300 g·1–1·h–1 for EPA and 130g1·1–1·h–1 for DHA. Furthermore, light attenuation by mutual shading, and agitation speed influences on growth and fatty acid composition were analysed. A model relating steady-state dilution rates to internal average light intensity has been proposed, the parameter values of which obtained by non-linear regression were: maximum specific growth rate (max)=0.0426 h–1; the affinity of cells to light (Ik) = 10.92 W·m–2; the exponent (n) = 5.13; regression coefficient (r 2)=0.9999. The in situ rates of oxygen consumption by benthic nitrifiers were estimated at 11 study sites in 4 streams. Two methods were used: an in situ respiration chamber method and a method involving conversion of nitrifying potential measurements to in situ rates. Estimates of benthic nitrogenous oxygen consumption (BNOC) rate ranged from 0–380 mmol of O2 m–2·day–1, and BNOC contributed between 0–85% of the total benthic oxygen consumption rate. The activity of nitrifiers residing in the sediments was influenced by O2 availability, temperature, pH, and substrate. Depending upon site, nitrification could approximate either first-order or zero-order kinetics with respect to ammonium concentration. The source of ammonium for benthic nitrifiers could be either totally from within the sediment or totally from the overlying water. Nitrate produced in the sediments could flux to the water above or be lost within the sediment. The sediments could act as a source (positive flux) or sink (negative flux) for both ammonium (–185 mmol·m–2·day–1 to +195 mmol·m–2·day–1) and nitrate (–135 mmol·m–2·day–1 to +185 mmol·m–2·day–1).This study provides evidence to suggest that measurements of down-stream mass flow changes in inorganic nitrogen forms may give poor estimates of in situ rates of nitrification in flowing waters.  相似文献

Bacterial productivity and microbial biomass in tropical mangrove sediments   总被引:14,自引:0,他引:14
Bacterial productivity (3H-thymidine incorporation into DNA) and intertidal microbenthic communities were examined within five mangrove estuaries along the tropical northeastern coast of Australia. Bacteria in mangrove surface sediments (0–2 cm depth) were enumerated by epifluorescence microscopy and were more abundant (mean and range: 1.1(0.02–3.6)×1011 cells·g DW–1) and productive (mean: 1.6 gC·m–2· d–1) compared to bacterial populations in most other benthic environments. Specific growth rates (¯x=1.1) ranged from 0.2–5.5 d–1, with highest rates of growth in austral spring and summer. Highest bacterial numbers occurred in winter (June–August) in estuaries along the Cape York peninsula north of Hinchinbrook Island and were significantly different among intertidal zones and estuaries. Protozoa (105–106·m–2, pheopigments (0.0–24.1g·gDW–1) and bacterial productivity (0.2–5.1 gC·m–2·d–1) exhibited significant seasonality with maximum densities and production in austral spring and summer. Algal biomass (chlorophylla) was low (mean: 1.6g·gDW–1) compared to other intertidal sediments because of low light intensity under the dense forest canopy, especially in the mid-intertidal zone. Partial correlation analysis and a study of possible tidal effects suggest that microbial biomass and bacterial growth in tropical intertidal sediments are regulated primarily by physicochemical factors and by tidal flushing and exposure. High microbial biomass and very high rates of bacterial productivity coupled with low densities of meiofaunal and macroinfaunal consumers observed in earlier studies suggest that microbes may be a sink for carbon in intertidal sediments of tropical mangrove estuaries.  相似文献

The field metabolic rates (FMR) and rates of water flux were measured in two species of varanid lizards over five periods of the year in tropical Australia. The energetics of these species were further investigated by directly measuring activity (locomotion) and body temperatures of free-ranging animals by radiotelemetry, and by measuring standard metabolic rate (over a range of body temperatures) and activity metabolism in the laboratory. Seasonal differences in the activity and energetics were found in these goannas despite similar, high daytime temperatures throughout the year in tropical Australia. Periods of inactivity were associated with the dry times of the year, but the onset of this period of inactivity differed with respect to habitat even within the same species. Varanus gouldii, which inhabit woodlands only, were inactive during the dry and late dry seasons. V. panoptes that live in the woodland had a similar seasonal pattern of activity, but V. panoptes living near the floodplain of the South Alligator River had their highest levels of activity during the dry season when they walked long distances to forage at the receding edge of the floodplain. However, during the late dry season, after the floodplain had dried completely, they too became inactive. For V. gouldii, the rates of energy expenditure were 196 kJ kg–1 day–1 for active animals and 66 kJ kg–1 day–1 for inactive animals. The rates of water influx for these groups were respectively 50.7 and 19.5 ml kg–1 day–1. For V. panoptes, the rates of energy expenditure were 143 kJ kg–1 day–1 for active animals and 56 kJ kg–1 day–1 for inactive animals. The rates of water influx for these two groups were respectively 41.4 and 21.0 ml kg–1 day–1. We divided the daily energy expenditure into the proportion of energy that lizards used when in burrows, out of burrows but inactive, and in locomotion for the two species during the different seasons. The time spent in locomotion by V. panoptes during the dry season is extremely high for a reptile (mean of 3.5 h/day spent walking), and these results provide an ecological correlate to the high aerobic capacity found in laboratory measurements of some species of varanids.  相似文献

The primary production of phytoplankton in Lake Vechten   总被引:6,自引:6,他引:0
The primary production of the phytoplankton of Lake Vechten (The Netherlands) (area, 4.7 ha; mean depth, 6 m), an unpolluted and stratified sandpit was investigated from 1969 to 1980 (except in 1971, 1975 and 1976) by the in situ 14C-technique. Other data collected include: solar radiation, transparency, oxygen and thermal structure. In winter and spring diatoms, Cryptophyceae and Chlorococcales were important algal groups, while in summer Dinophyceae and Chrysophyceae were important. The chlorophyll-a concentration was compared to the cellular biovolumes (= fresh weight) of the most abundant phytoplankton species. The primary production maxima occurred in winter, spring and during the summer stratification. The vertical profiles of photosynthesis exhibit light inhibition at surface to a maximum of 4 m. The maximum of zooplankton grazing in May–June caused a sharp decrease in the phytoplankton biomass and seston concentration accompanied by the highest transparency (clear water phase). The values for cellular C-fixation range from 10 to 1307 mg C · M–2 · day–1 (annual mean of 280 mg C · m–2 · day–1). High dark fixation (up to 100%) was encountered in the metalimnion and hypolimnion from July to October together with peaks of 14C-fixation due to a crowding of phytoplankton and phototrophic anoxic bacteria. Extracellular excretion by phytoplankton, investigated in 1977 to 1979, was 15% of the annual mean of the total C-fixation. The photosynthetic efficiency, turnover rates, and activity coefficients were low, particularly in the summer months when Ceratium hirundinella was predominant. The seasonal variations were controlled mainly by solar radiation and probably phosphate, the former being more important in the non-stratification period and the latter during the stratification period.  相似文献

The structure, feeding and metabolism of the filterfeeders community of Lake Vechten (The Netherlands) were investigated for seven years in relation to the functioning of the lake's ecosystem. The 14C-technique used in the grazing and assimilation study is discussed in detail with a critical analysis of the methodological errors. The three major species which contributed to the annual density, biomass and grazing maxima in spring are: Bosmina longirostris, Daphnia spp. and Eudiaptomus gracilis. The rise in grazing pressure in recent years, particularly in May, was accompanied by a corresponding decrease in the seston (<33 µm) biomass, and in increase of inedible algae, especially Ceratium hirudinella, in late summer. The means of daily grazing ranged from 3% in March to 34% in June. The mean annual ratio ingestion: phytoplankton production varied from 70 to 230%. The specific filtering rate, SFR (ml · day–1 · mg–1 · zoop · C), was related directly to water temperature but inversely to the food concentrations. The main errors in the ingestion and assimilation rates were related to the leaching of the isotope from the animals in the preservation fluid. The loss of tracer was 42 and 26%, respectively, for the two rates. In spring, the food removed by the grazers per day was equivalent to 125–400% of the daily primary production. This caused a sharp decrease in the seston concentrations and a recurring clear water phase because of a sharp increase in the Secchi depth. The zooplankton assimilatory removal of carbon and the sedimentation loss rates to the hypolimnion exceeded the primary production rates. The inconsistencies in the carbon budget are possibly due to our lack of knowledge of the horizontal transport of material from the littoral, bacteria as an alternative food source for zooplankton, and the DOC dynamics. The grazers' activity as SFR in deep, stratifying lakes like Vechten is 3 to 4 times that in the shallow, mixed and more eutrophic Dutch lakes. In the former category of lakes the crustacean herbivores serve as an important link in the food chain in the limnetic region.  相似文献

Phosphorus and nitrogen excretion rates by zooplankton communities from two eutrophic and shallow Dutch lakes were measured in laboratory. The variations in excretion rates in the lakes (May–October) were caused mainly by fluctuation in zooplankton biomass. Mean summer excretion rates (June–September) were 2.4 and 0.9 µg PO4P·1–1·d–1 in Lake Loosdercht and Lake Breukeleveen, respectively. This difference between the lakes was caused mainly by the lower zooplankton biomass in Lake Breukeleveen. The excretion of 2.4 µg PO4P·1–1·d compared with the calculated P-demand of phytoplankton of 8.0 µg PO4P·1–1·d–1 is substantial in the summer (June–September) and far more important than the external P-supply of 0.4 µg P·1–1·d–1 and sediment release of 0.5 µg P·1–1·d–1. Both temperature and composition of zooplankton affected the weight specific excretion rates of the zooplankton community. The weight specific community excretion rates of P and N increased with temperature (exponential model); 1–8 g PO4P·mg–1 zooplankton-C·d–1 and 5–42 µg NH3N·mg–1 zooplankton-C·d–1 (10°C–20°C).  相似文献

Summary Na+–H+ exchange activity in renal brush border membrane vesicles isolated from hyperthyroid rats was increased. When examined as a function of [Na+], treatment altered the initial rate of Na+ uptake by increasingV m (hyperthyroid, 18.9±1.1 nmol Na+ · mg–1 · 2 sec–1; normal, 8.9±0.3 nmol Na+ · mg–1 · 2 sec–1), and not the apparent affinityK Na + (hyperthyroid, 7.3±1.7mm; normal, 6.5±0.9mm). When examined as a function of [H+] and at a subsaturating [Na+] (1mm), hyperthyroidism resulted in the proportional increase in Na+ uptake at every intravesicular pH measured. A positive cooperative effect on Na+ uptake was found with increased intravesicular acidity in vesicles from both normal and hyperthyroid rats. When the data were analyzed by the Hill equation, it was found that hyperthyroidism did not change then (hyperthyroid, 1.2±0.06; normal, 1.2±0.07) or the [H+]0.5 (hyperthyroid, 0.39±0.08 m; normal, 0.44±0.07 m) but increased the apparentV m (hyperthyroid, 1.68±0.14 nmol Na+ · mg–1 · 2 sec–1; normal 0.96±0.10 nmol Na+ · mg–1 · 2 sec–1). The uptake of Na+ in exchange for H+ in membrane vesicles from normal and hyperthyroid animals was not influenced by membrane potential. H+ translocation or debinding was rate limiting for Na+–H+ exchange since Na+–Na+ exchange activity was greater than Na+–H+ exchange activity. Hyperthyroidism caused a proportional increase and hypothyroidism caused a proportional decrease in Na+–Na+ and Na+–H+ exchange. We conclude that hyperthyroidism leads to either an increase in the number of functional exchangers in the membrane or exactly proportional increases in the rate-limiting steps for Na+–Na+ and Na+–H+ exchange activity.  相似文献

The ecology of Lake Nakuru (Kenya)   总被引:11,自引:0,他引:11
E. Vareschi 《Oecologia》1982,55(1):81-101
Summary Abiotic factors, standing crop and photosynthetic production were studied in the equatorial alkaline-saline closed-basin Lake Nakuru (cond. 10,000–160,000 S). Meteorological conditions and abiotic factors offer suppositions for a high primary productivity: mean solar radiation is 450–550 kerg·cm-2·s-1, with little seasonal variation, regular winds circulate the lake every day and nutrient concentrations are usually high (>100 g P–PO4·l-1). Oxygen concentrations near sediments were <1 gO2·m-3 for at least 6 h·d-1 in 1972/73, resulting in a release of 45 mg P–PO4·m-2·d-1. Attenuation coefficients vary from 3.6–16.5 according to algal densities and mean depth from 0–400 cm. Algal biomass was 200 g·m-3 (d.w.) in 1972/73, due to a lasting Spirulina platensis bloom (98.5% of algal biomass). In 1974 algal biomass suddenly dropped to 50 g·m-3 (d.w.). Spirulina and several consumer organisms almost vanished, but coccoid cyanobacteria, Anabaenopsis and diatoms increased. Several causes for this change in ecosystem structure are discussed. The use of the light/dark bottle method to measure photosynthetic production in eutrophic alkaline lakes is discussed and relevant experiments were done. Oxygen tensions of 2–35 gO2·m-3 do not influence primary production rates. Net photosynthetic rates (mgO2·m-3·h-1; photosynthetic quotient=1.18) reached 12–17.7 in 1972/73 and 2–3 in 1974, but vertically integrated rates were only 1–1.4 in 1972/73 and 0.8 in 1974, and daily net photosynthetic rates (gO2·m-3·24 h-1) 3.5 in 1972/73 and 1 in 1974. 50% of areal rates were produced within the 10 most productive cm of the depth profile. The disproportion between high algal standing crops and relatively low production rates is due to self-shading of the algae, reducing the euphotic zone to 35 cm in 1972/73 and 77 cm in 1974. Efficiency of light utilization is 0.4–2%, varying with time of day and phytoplankton density. In situ efficiencies show an inverse relationship to light intensities. Photosynthetic rates of L. Nakuru remain within the range of other African lakes (0.1–3 gO2·m-2·h-1). The relation of O2 produced/Chl a of the euphotic zone is 50% lower then in tropical African freshwater lakes and conforms to lakes of temperate regions.  相似文献

A rich and varied meiofauna inhabits a Cornish mudflat near the mouth of the Tamar River in southwestern England. Population densities range from 117 to 943 individuals · g–1 (wet) sediment (1.4–11.4 × 106 individuals · m–2), with foraminifera, harpacticoid copepods and nematodes appearing in nearly equal numbers and comprising most of the meiofauna. Seasonally, meiofaunal numbers rise and fall with solar radiation and vary inversely with river discharge. Two species, the atestate allogromiid A and the calcareous Haynesina germanica (Ehrenberg), far outnumber other foraminifera; their population densities and growth rates reach maxima in spring and summer.Monthly rates of sediment respiration are locally variable, but clearly increase from winter (4.13 ml O2 · m–2 · h–1 in December) to spring (38.87 ml O2 · m–2 · h–1 in April). Experiments and calculations ascribe approximately 30% of this total to the meiofauna (including microfauna and microflora), 50% to bacteria and less than 20% to chemical oxidation. A tentative energy budget for the mudflat suggests that secondary production by meiofauna is small as compared with coastal environments elsewhere, and that meiofaunal production (426 Kcal · m–2 · y–1) is nearly twice meiofaunal respiration (252 Kcal · m–2 · yr–1).  相似文献

Tryptamine levels have been determined in mouse brain regions and spinal cord and in rat spinal cord. They were; caudate nucleus 2.5 ng·g–1, hypothalamus <0.5 ng·g–1, hippocampus <0.7 ng·g–1, olfactory bulb <0.7 ng·g–1, olfactory tubercles <0.6 ng·g–1, brain stem <0.4 ng·g–1, cerebellum <1.0 ng·g–1, and the rest 0.9 ng·g–1. The mouse whole brain was found to have 0.5 ng·g–1, the mouse spinal cord 0.3 ng·g–1, and the rat spinal cord 0.3 ng·g–1. These concentrations increased rapidly to 22.8 ng·g–1, 14.2 ng·g–1, and 6.6 ng·g–1 respectively at 1 hr after 200 mg·kg–1 pargyline. The turnover rates and half lives of tryptamine in the mouse brain and spinal cord and rat spinal cord were estimated to be 0.14 nmol·g–1·h–1 and 0.9 min; 0.054 nmol·g–1·h–1 and 1.5 min and 0.04 nmol·g–1·h–1 and 1.6 min respectively. The aromaticl-aminoacid decarboxylase inhibitors NSD 1034 and NSD 1055 reduced synthesis of tryptamine in controls and pargyline pretreated animals. Tryptophan increased the concentrations of mouse striatal tryptamine and 5-hydroxytryptamine and brain stem 5-hydroxyindole acetic acid.p-Chlorophenylalanine reduced formation of 5-hydroxytryptamine and 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid but did not change that of tryptamine.  相似文献

The development of wetland soil characteristics andbenthic invertebrate communities were evaluated increated Spartina alterniflorasalt marshes inNorth Carolina ranging in age from 1 to 25 years-old.A combination of measurements from different-agecreated marshes as well as periodic measurements overtime on two marshes were used to (1) document rates ofwetland pedogenesis, especially soil organic matter, and, (2) explore relationships between soil andbenthic invertebrate community development. Soilmacro-organic matter (MOM, the living and dead rootand rhizome mat), organic C and N increased and bulkdensity decreased during the 25 years following marshestablishment. The most dramatic changes in bulkdensity, MOM, C and N occurred within the upper 10 cmof the soil with lesser changes below this depth.Created marshes were sinks for organic C (90–140g·m-2·yr-1) and N (7–11g·m-2·yr-1) but not for P (0–1g·m-2·yr-1). The density of benthicinvertebrates (>250 m) and subsurface-depositfeeding oligochaetes also increased over time oncreated salt marshes. Invertebrate and oligochaetedensity were strongly related to MOM content(r2= 0.83–0.87) and soil organic C(r2= 0.52–0.82) and N (r2= 0.62–0.84). Thesefindings suggest that, in created salt marshes, development of the benthic invertebrate community istied to marsh soil formation, especially accumulationof organic matter as MOM and soil. Field studies thatmanipulate the quantity and quality of soil organicmatter are needed to elucidate the relationshipbetween salt marsh pedogenesis and benthicinvertebrate community development.  相似文献

Mathematical model parameters for the methanogenic degradation of propylene glycol were estimated in a sequential manner by means of an optimization technique. Model parameters determined from an initial experimental data set using one bioreactor were then verified with the results from a second bioreactor. The proposed methodology is a useful tool to obtain model parameters for continuous flow reactors with completely mixed regime. Abbrevations: S – substrate concentration (mg COD l–1); S in – influent substrate concentration (mg COD l–1); D L – dilution rate (day–1); – stoichiometric coefficients (ND); nx – number of microbial species (ND); X S – fixed biomass concentration (mg biomass l–1); X L – suspended biomass concentration of (mg biomass l–1); k d – decay rate of biomass (day–1); b S – specific detachment rate of biofilm (day–1); – specific growth rate of biomass (day–1); m – maximum specific growth rate of biomass (day–1); K S – half saturation constant (mg COD l–1); K I – inhibition constant (mg COD l–1).  相似文献
